Kaeya's Hangout - Winery Routes
I was planning to talk about all the routes in the same post. But I have SO MUCH to talk about already that I'm going to make separate posts.
First, let's take a look at the two Winery routes that I played first.
Tumblr media
I wasn't expecting to begin in Sumeru, it feels like a continuation from the Archon quest. And we find Kaeya talking to a bird lol
I wanted to go to Mondstadt so I took those steps. First, we visit Lisa and Jean. It's been so long since we've seen these three together! And Kaeya as always shows how considerate he is. He brings presents for everyone, and always chooses good presents for all of them. They love him so much.
There was this part where Kaeya says that "A child has to enjoy their time when they don't have to worry about anything". And there was a little pause. He was surely reflecting on how easier everything was when he was a child 😭
Then Kaeya says he wants to visit the Winery, and asks the Traveler if we prefer to go tomorrow, when Diluc's gonna be there, or the day after.
Tumblr media
WELL YOU CAN PROBABLY GUESS WHICH ONE I PICKED FIRST.
So we went tomorrow. Diluc didn't appear a lot, but as always the dialogue between them is really fun.
It had been so long since I was last here, but as always, it feels like home.
Kaeya wanted to trick Diluc into giving him some good wine. What I love is that not only did Diluc obviously not believe him, but that he already knew that excuse from last year lol. He's such an older brother here like "Yeah you THOUGHT you could trick me, you dummy".
Tumblr media
And Diluc mentioned the vase!! I want a petition to have the new lamp in the Winery as well, let me see all his presents there!
Diluc can't control himself, even if he wants to be grumpy he's going to treat Kaeya well at the end. But I love their bickering when they're with each other, Kaeya becomes childish at times lol. Also how Diluc tells us that if we have any doubt we can ask Kaeya because he knows how everything works. Of course he does!
Then we go outside and meet Connor and Tunner. Can I just say how much I love that they're so happy to see Kaeya? Again, they love him so much. And their little anecdotes! How much I wanted to see them talking about the past!
As we go around picking grapes, Tunner says how Kaeya was such a good child, and that he's so proud of how he's grown up.
Tumblr media
They're all so happy *sniff* But this doesn't even compare to the other route.
Everything's the same but we go a day later. Elzer is so happy to see him. I love when he suggests that Kaeya should take a barrel of wine but Kaeya fears Diluc is going to be angry, and Elzer's like "He might be grumpy but I'm sure he doesn't mind".
They KNOW. Diluc might act coldly, but of course he cares a lot. Kaeya does too, he cares for ALL of them. I think the reason he doesn't want to see Diluc is because he knows that it's awkward sometimes, and also because he knows it's easier to get the good wine if he's not there lol
But I love how Elzer and later Adelinde tell Kaeya that he should visit more often *sniff*
So Elzer doesn't feel well and Kaeya says he'll take his place for the day. We go outside and meet Adelinde. Kaeya REALLY misses Adelinde's cooking so he asks her to make us something.
Tumblr media
As Adelinde is cooking, we talk to her and she tells us such great stories! This is exactly what I wanted!
Adelinde says that both Diluc and Kaeya were very cute as kids, that Kaeya was such a sweet child. One time though, they tried to taste wine and Adelinde and Crepus caught them. Diluc was tasked to clean the barrels and Adelinde knew it was too much for him. And when she went to help, she saw that Kaeya was already there helping Diluc 😭
Crepus realized how hard Kaeya had worked, and made a special drink for him to taste a bit of wine. That's so sweet. Adelinde tells us how much Kaeya likes helping others, but how much he denies this. And we know that, of course we do. But it's great seeing characters acknowledging this.
Then when we're eating together, Adelinde asks us to take care of Kaeya, and worries if he has friends with the other Knights (She's such a mom, I love her). Kaeya says that of course he does! (And he's such a kid with her)
And then...
Oh my god, I wasn't prepared.
So someone from Liyue comes for business and Kaeya tends to him. And when that man asks Kaeya who he is...
Kaeya says "I'm the adopted son of Crepus and Diluc's brother."
Tumblr media
Words cannot describe how I felt at that moment.
Because it's the first time he has said it. He calls himself Diluc's brother, and Crepus' son, part of the family. IT'S THE FIRST TIME AND I WAS DYING.
In Japanese, he used the term "kyodai" meaning "sibling/brother". I was-- I AM still stunned. AND HE SAID THAT TWICE.
How much I wanted that, I can't believe it. We just need Diluc to say it some time, we just need that. Say it you stupid, grumpy, red haired man!!!
*clears throat* I mean... yeah. I really liked that.
Then, if it wasn't enough, Adelinde tells him "You're not just a guest. You are part of this family and we want you to come more often to visit us."
I just can't. This is too much.
And then comes Klee, thinking that Kaeya was being kept here as punishment lol. But I love how it closes with Kaeya saying "See Adelinde? You don't have to worry about me. I have such good friends."
Tumblr media
Oh my god. Believe I really wanted to continue but this was too much. I'll play the other routes later, I need a small break.
For thoughts on the other routes click here.
I can tell you, I'm more than satisfied, this was beautiful.

i have such Strong feelings about what we’ve seen from sumeru’s story so far that i wanted to take a second and ramble about it before i internally combust. because man. maybe my expectations were very low (they were), but i loved how everything turned out. it only feels fair to give credit where credit is due after i ripped into the inazuma archon quest for over a year.
i think the main thing this region has is... cohesiveness? narratively, it makes sense why inazuma lacked this; it’s an archipelago that’s divided by war. but it felt like sumeru trimmed a lot of the fat off its story and we got a more fulfilling experience as a result. characters have very clear motivations that are easy to empathize with/understand. one of the conflicts that we’re introduced to immediately grabbed my attention, that being the total apathy toward kusanali by the nation of sumeru’s people. in the prior three nations, we saw such total reverence from the people toward their current archon... so this deviation from the norm helps give sumeru a unique identity.
the second part of sumeru’s archon quest has got to be one of my favorites thus far. there was suspense that felt well-earned and i wasn’t constantly asking myself ‘why would anyone do that???’ like i was during the inazuma storyline. unraveling the mystery was a real joy. they gave just enough information to keep your interested piqued, but didn’t tip their hand to reveal too much. i’m trying to keep my expectations in check because i was immensely disappointed by part III of inazuma’s archon quest, but i feel part III for sumeru will be something special.
then we get to the aranyaka world quest................. which is a new favorite of mine too.
i got attached to those little suckers so fast. i really have to give mihoyo props for their design because i mean...
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THIS FELLA!!! I LOVE THEM ALL!!!
i saw some complaints that the aranara’s dialogue was too dense, so this might be more of a personal preference, but i absolutely found it a joy to read everything they said . as a person who has played multiple CRPGs (i’m looking at You disco elysium), i’m always down to read pages after pages in my video games. i can see how it isn’t for everyone though. from a video game design standpoint, i also liked how playing through the quest gave us a more clear cut way to explore the massive region. one of the things i feel iffy about when it comes to Super Massive open world RPGs is that i just... get overwhelmed and worry i’m missing out? i feel the developers are able to make the experience more special when they have a better guess of what routes players might take. anyway. that’s a bit of an unrelated tangent.
to conclude this massive word soup that you get a gold star if you read any amount of, i think this shows genshin’s main story is headed in a solid direction. i was not so sure about that after inazuma’s main storyline finished (not counting limited time events, which did a good job). of course there’s the major issue of orientalism being prevalent in the character design/lack of skin tone diversity in a region deriving its inspiration from SWANA countries/history, although i hardly feel qualified to give my two cents on that. it’s such a shame that this region excelled in so many areas just. didn’t in this one. we could’ve had it all 😔............

All the evidence that shows Lumine is indeed a canon protagonist.
Like these old times, with Sumeru's promotions, Lumine's players have again been put aside and again we had to face antipathy and mockery from some Aether's players.
As I saw that a lot of Lumine's players started to feel insecure about their own games, I wrote this article to prove that contrary to popular belief, Lumine is indeed a canon protagonist and that if ever others toxic Aether's stans come bother you, you can get them this post.
1. The trailers and the concept art
Many people have said that Lumine can’t be the canon protagonist because according to them, Lumine was not an option in the beta.
After some research I can tell you that this argument is false. Lumine was in early development concepts arts of the game as an MC with paimon. She is 100% intended to be an MC/protag by the devs. Heres the early devs concept art :
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As surprising as it may seem, official trailers prove it too. In the beginning of the game the trailers show Lumine with the title traveler right next to her. And for those who are going out "Yeah but it was only at the beginning of the game it has since changed". There is a third trailer where she shown as a traveler in Liyue with Paimon during the lantern festival.

youtube
youtube
2. The manga
Yes. You read correctly. And then you say to yourself : "But how the favorite argument of annoying Aether’s stans is a proof that Lumine is a mc ?" Well this is where we will see that some do not pay attention to the dialogues of the game. (Arguments found on @Genshin_Kineli on Twitter, who makes very good Genshin Impact character theories and analysis content.)
Aether in the manga isn't the Aether at the start of the game because:
1) Paimon is not here to prove to us that we see the traveler. As the game cutscenes go through, it is displayed that Paimon appears in most of them when it comes to the main story.
2) In the manga, Venti use his old Lyre "der Himmel", it’s the same lyre which as been preserved in the church during the Dvalin's arc in the game. While in the game, he use his other Lyre "der Frühling".
3. Aether’s outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tones of his outfit show that he does not resonate with any elements. And no it’s not geo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Geo is yellow. Here it’s orange. His outfit in the manga is the same as his outfit by default on his anemo card. Which it’s not logical because like we can see in the game when he resonates with anemo, his outfit takes on turquoise tones.
4. The quest "We will be reunited" let us know that it was MC's sibling who travelled trough Teyvat before.
Tumblr media
Plus, Venti's speech at the end of the prologue of the manga :
Tumblr media
He wonders if the world became a little bit stronger thanks to Vennessa's perseverance and actions that gave more freedom to Mondstadt but justice as well.
This gives an insight that the Mondstadt within the manga is peaceful instead of seeing the archons being target of the Fatui noor seing the Abyss Order doing their revendous to attack the cities or so.
So it’s possible that the Abyss twin has awakened first, has travelled Teyvat, has acquired all the knowledge to have (for the future abyss order), then comes Khaenri'ah destruction, he/she wake up the Traveler Twin then when the latest gets captured, trying to save him/her, the Abyss Twin becomes mad.
In conclusion, unlike everyone's believe, the manga implies it’s Aether the leader of the abyss and not Lumine.
After, like I said it’s open to interpretation.
3. The Web Events
Yes, the web events is also canon, there is even one with Lumine and Venti who was released before the game comes out, which shows that Lumine was well designed for being the protagonists from the starts.

Long rant regarding Sumeru's longest questline (golden slumbers -> her foes rage like great waters)
This is a weird place to share my thoughts on a Genshin world quest but it's not like i really use any other platform.
So, Jeht from Genshin impact, Sumeru's longest running world quest line.
Never thought I'd ever say this but hyv's writing has gotten to a point where i am happy to say that i felt true dread (in the best way, as intended by the writers, probably)
Spoilers for "golden slumbers", all the way up to "her foes rage like great waters". And it's a really long wall of text, not intended for anyone to read, but if u need to scream about that questline, feel free to join me. I feel like I'm screaming into the void rn. No one i know cares about the story or is caught up as far as i am
Most people have like an npc that made them cry in Genshin. To a lot of people it's teppei from the inazuma archon quest. For me, it was Jeht.
The golden slumbers quest started really slowly for me but i needed the primos for upcoming banners, so naturally i rushed through it.
I'm really glad to have been playing while eating lunch because i was still able to skim the dialogue and find the traveller building a relationship with Jeht and her father. I didn't cry when her father died, though. It certainly did leave a sinking feeling in my chest with how raw jehts emotions were then but in the end, i took the primos and dipped
After a few updates, hyv added a new part of the desert and i entered the tanit camps and unexpectedly met jeht again, who was slowly trying to settle into a new community. Matriarch babel set off warning bells the first time i met her, sending jeht to hunt traitors of their tribe in cold blood. I was like "what the fuck? That's pretty dark for a game like this, they didn't even shy away from the descriptions".
We do the story line, meet some people of the tribe, make acquaintances, all is well.
Until Jeht was inevitably betrayed by the very man she built up so much trust with since rejoining the tanit. Its not that some guy tryna force marriage onto a women is shocking, it's the fact that it was done in Genshin impact. It was just unexpected, but the best part is, jeht did not shy away from killing that man (someone she saw as a brother at first) in cold blood as soon as his betrayal was revealed. And then later she kills another tribesmember finding out that he also betrayed them
Oh and somewhere in between, we come close to finding that babel has set up jeht for betrayal as well, but the matriarch smartly covers it up. Truthfully, i did not trust her.
Anyway at this point i was like man this girl takes zero shit. The story goes on, you find that eternal oasis, and Jeht gets to leave remnants of her parents there as their final resting place. At this point, i started feeling emotionally connected to Jeht, and it warmed my heart so much that her parents could stay together in a place they dedicated their life to finding
Quest ends there, after reporting back to matriarch babel. Nearly a month later, because i haven't returned to the tanit camps since, i find that Jeht reappears with another quest. I happily talk to her, and she wanted to retrieve benben (the cute little pyramid robot) to fix him up. We do exactly that.
There was this weird interlude where you meet another woman who was basically groomed into being a mindless killing machine by her own father, which began instilling a sense of dread in my stomach, and later you're forced to kill her, to which i then started feeling like REALLY uneasy. And not only that, i also lose liloupar, the jinni jar that had stuck with us for a good while, and this build up of losing people left and right started getting to me.
I didn't think about it at first when i was playing but at this point i was cutting through each part of the quest with impatience and hyper focus. I even resorted to using my best team (floor 12 spiral level of efficiency) because i couldn't stand taking my time to get used newer team comps
We're told to do some investigation and such which eventually leads to clues of jeht's betrayal. Babel then sends US. US, THE FUCKINF TRAVELLER to hunt down jeht and my god i was scared I'd have to kill her like i did with that poor falcon girl. There were just so many deaths flags present
Investigation goes on, i find out that the motherfucking fatui had a hand in this, that jeht was sold out and captured by them. Mind you, i had no issues with the fatui, if anything they were a minor nuisance. But in the moment, i never thought i could muster so much hate towards a ragtag team of stupid, visionless scoundrels.
Even the ones that were begging for mercy and giving us information- i wanted to cut him up so bad regardless of his pleas for innocence. Even the traveller themselves and paimon began getting straight to the point. They took no shit from anyone they crossed paths with. This build up, the death flags, the climbing desperation that traveller and paimon began to exhibit, and even the notes/descriptions that defeated fatui gave us, it built up such a sickening pit of dread in my stomach that the moment i finally found Jeht displayed on my damn scream i actually slumped on my chair and sighed in relief.
I was just so thankful that i didn't have to kill her. But if anything, i was more scared of how much rage she showed after killing tribesmen sent after us. It turns out babel had set us up so that we would be pitted against Jeht (which of course didn't happen) and the climax includes Jeht confronting babel, and giving her no time to talk because she openly admitted to scheming against both traveller and jeht.
In the end, babel fell like all the open world enemies we kill- ended in cold blood. Jeht didn't hesitate, not even in her in-game posture or the dialogue. She told babel she would kill her, and she did exactly that, no hesitation whatsoever.
And i almost cried seeing the empty tanit camps. I thought Jeht would be all alone again, until benben showed up. At this point it was like three in the morning and i was on a voice call with a friend that didn't even play Genshin, and i almost cried to him about jeht.
All in all, hyv's storytelling has clearly improved by an insane amount since inazuma (the chasm and enkanomiya kind of counted i guess, it's stories were actually quite intriguing). I won't say inazuma was a total disaster because i will admit, i enjoyed the overall story, it was just the execution of it that was a let down.
But sumeru's archon quest had me on the edge of my seat. And Sumeru's longest world questline rivalled the sacred sakura's questline as well as ruu's questline (which says a lot because in my experience, ruu and kazari were the most memorable npcs)
I honest to God have never once played a game that captured my heart so earnestly before. I was literally sweating nervously the entire time at the end. I felt the anger and the dread and the worry that hyv most likely intended for the player to feel when we desperately searched for jeht to its fullest.
I wasn't expecting an immature, bratty and outspoken npc like jeht to capture my attention. There were a lot of ups and downs with our relationship as the traveller with her, and against all odds, we still remained close friends. I don't care that she's a bunch of pixels on my laptop. I don't care that this is a questline with a definitive end. I'm just glad that jehts free to roam as she pleases, and that she has benben so she would never have to feel alone.
This was definitely an indication of hyv taking into accounts of the pacing and player input and building something beautiful out of it. And if the rest of Genshin's stories can be written like this, it's safe to say that I'll definitely be hooked until I've exhausted the full game.

Just some long thoughts about how Furina could be utilized going forward from a meta perspective...
Unlike Nahida and Raiden, Furina kind of has the Zhongli/Venti advantage of not being an active political figure anymore, so she technically has the freedom to show up in a lot more places than the active archons. Even though it might not make a whole lot of sense for a new player to see the hydro archon showing up to play bit parts in random events, and Genshin is notoriously unwilling to provide hard AQ progression requirements, they do have a history of creating warnings like "this quest is best enjoyed if you've played xxx quests beforehand", so I think future appearances by her are eminently possible.
And besides, Furina's position at the end of the AQ and SQ seems deliberately designed to give her as much freedom as possible, in both an in-story and meta sense. Fontainians still seem to believe she was actually the archon, but she used up all her power and is now retired, and she's not widely considered a fraud or something. It's clear she's still adored by the populace.
So I think it would be quite possible to write her into events as an "artistic emissary" or something like that from Fontaine, and not go into specifics of what her current position actually is. She was always more of a "mascot" than a ruler or object of veneration, after all, and she could easily retain that status. And her SQ and resulting dialogue from herself and Neuvilette does imply that she will slowly return to the stage too (though maybe more as a singer/dancer than an actor, for obvious reasons). Would absolutely love her to meet Nilou and maybe exchange some advice...
And it's not like she's just turned into 100% into a regular person anyway. Not just the 500 years of suffering (and knowledge that comes with it), but she could definitely use her popularity for good ends in future AQs or SQs. Like I'm thinking of stuff like Nilou's chapter of the Sumeru AQ or Yae's SQ, the ability to captivate and influence people can have tangible impacts on the nation's problems even if you're not the archon. I can see her immense stage girl (tm) prowess and popularity be the key to solving some issue that comes up later in the Fontaine storyline, like something Neuvilette can't just brute force. Or hell maybe Neuvi goes rogue and we have to teach him a lesson like we did Ei, though that seems more unlikely than not.
As for ideas for her 2nd SQ, there's also obviously the loose ends regarding Focalors. It was kind of sucky that Furina never really got a good moment of closure with her divine counterpart, and it's not even clear whether she understands why the prophecy was averted. God I do hope she knows that she didn't fail though. Like that should be something it would be relatively easy for her to find out without ruining Focalors' deception, since it's literally on those stone tablets that were brought in as evidence in her trial.
I do kind of wonder how the new weekly boss will come about during her 2nd SQ though. Maybe Arlecchino somehow takes it upon herself to try to carry out the "death sentence," but given she saw no point in killing Furina even before the truth was revealed, I doubt she'd have a big change of heart. The expatriate oceanids seem to hate her, but again it seems unlikely they'd seek revenge. I guess it's also possible that Furina is just kind of along for the ride in her 2nd SQ and Neuvilette/Traveler do the "real" work, but I'd prefer to hope that her unique position and talents get to save the day. Again. But this time without the suffering. Furina saving Fontaine but this time with the power of friendship and authentic performance, god that would be good...
Honestly the best candidate for her 2nd SQ might be Celestia finally getting around to going "wtf you literally destroyed a whole archon thone how could you possibly think you could get away with this," and it turns out Neuvilette just isn't strong enough by himself to resist their judgment, so Furina has to rally the people to channel their ambitions and beliefs and whatnot into that golden energy we saw in the Inazuma AQ and Yae's SQ. At least then she might get some self-awareness of being the savior of Fontaine (again it's really sad that she doesn't seem to know that she saved the nation in the first place).

So um. I guess I was right about Tomo and Kazuha HAHAHA. Fr though a lot of this archon quest felt so.... predictable and rushed. My very first thought after finishing the archon quest was not about how great the cutscenes were or about the storyline and all the reveals.... it was rlly just "That's all?".
I don't want to be a debby downer, but Mihoyo could have at least revealed more about Scaramouche through Baal instead of Yae. And the whole "twin gods" thing felt like they just shoved that in there for no other reason than shock value. Again, thats a reveal we get through Yae instead of Baal herself which is,,,,, Anyways, the cutscenes were phenomenal and I'm glad they sort of gave Kazuha closure. But, I still can't help but be disappointed about how fastpaced everything was, from La Signora down to the new Sumeru lore (lesser lord???? Tf is goin on in Sumeru why are they worshipping a lesser lord instead of the archon??)
On another note i am both ecstatic and anxious about how dark things are sure to get now that we finally saw an actual MURDER. The traveler is getting more and more invested in the world of Teyvat and its people, and i feel this will cause so much inner turmoil in them throughout their journey considering the fact that their end-goal is to leave with the twin. Just what will become of those two i wonder
Genshin Spoilers !!
I do agree that this quest felt more fast-paced than the previous one did. I,,, honestly, I wasn't expecting to go from merely showing Sara the Kujou clan's corruption, to fighting Signora then immediately going in to the boss fight with Baal. My phone was having a whole fit screen recording it HAHAHAKSJDN I kind of wish we had more interactions on Sangonomiya that prompted more exploration of the place, maybe ? Something that involved Kokomi + Gorou + Kazuha.
But yeah I think that the twin gods thing was... out of left field, to say the least. I mentioned in one of my asks before that I thought that it would be difficult to 'redeem' Baal after all she's done, and do it in a way that melds enough with the story. I think this is one such thing done to try and 'humanize' her by giving her loss in the form of her sister + friends, bc the twin gods seemed to lack any sort of exposé from the beginning, from the characters, the weapon + artifact lore + character voice lines + clues hidden in the landscape. Bc if you ask me, the 'twin gods' thing feels like an attempt to give Ei a reason behind why she's so desperate to hang onto eternity that kind of feels,,, cliche. I don't think I'd be as unsatisfied if more clues had been presented that hinted towards the twin gods thing, tbh.
And yeah imo the lore and cutscenes here were very centric on closing the Inazuma story quest, and not so much on building and giving hints or clues to the other sources for genshin lore. Although I do appreciate them giving some scara lore, I wish it was less,,, optional ? Because you only do learn about it if you choose a skippable piece of dialogue. And I,,, I don't know, I'm unsatisfied by how it was revealed that Scara took Baal / Ei's gnosis ? It felt really,,, underwhelming i guess.
But there were deffo some memorable scenes in this update ! I'm glad to see Kazuha gain closure like you said, and hopefully we'll get more info on why his friend's vision lit up (fingers crossed that it's more than just a 'power of friendship' thing.)
I'm also super excited bc of the traveller's personality shift! Like, this was really the first time we saw them angry enough to challenge Signora to a fight, knowing that it could end with Signora dead because of them. And their initial impatience to see the Raiden Shogun at the start of 2.0, too–– Idk, I just find it interesting how the traveller seems to get more,,, testy ? Snappy ? Impatient ? to finish everything and maybe reunite with their twin. It was also p cool to see genshin go a little darker, too. I just wonder how much the traveller is gonna change as the story progresses, tbh. If we'll see them become more and more ruthless (?) / goal driven like their sibling as time goes on.
