Going from oneshots in popular fandoms to longfics in old fandoms is such a weird shift bc im so used to the constant dopamine from engagement with strangers and the sense of satisfaction from publishing multiple short fics

But now im posting chapter updates for one single fic and i get comments on each chapter from the same few people which is arguably more fulfilling in some ways bc im fostering connection and relationship but the quantitative success feels lacking

I don't think one is better than the other bc i do miss my wide audience days of oneshots, but that requires so much effort to keep up with new shows and games and trying to anticipate trends when old fandom weirdos have been in the same caves drawing on the walls for a decade or two
