Gealach and Coru were close friends. They spent so much time together, whether it be to read, walk through nature, or play music in their favorite quiet place. They were practically inseparable, and Coru more than anyone cherished the moments they had together. But he was always wary of Gealach's fascination with the stars, and a small part of him worried that they would take them away from him. His fears were deemed true when Gealach one day declared to him their desire to venture beyond Thalamhan. Coru, forever bound to the titan Danuas, refused to go with them. That was the last time he ever saw them.

After the Navigator's departure, Coru mourned them as if they had passed on. He had the statue of his close friend erected in the capital city to commemorate them, but he was never the same afterward. Even though he had known Gealach all his life, Coru did nothing to prevent their legacy from becoming little more than Thalamite legend.

FBI FOIA documents reveal that the Moonies funded “85% of WACL” and that Sun Myung Moon sought to “discretely” fund “radical anti-communist groups” around the world

Declassified documents reveal that the Unification Church was attempting to form formal connections to CORU (Coordination of United Revolutionary Organizations), a CIA-backed anti-Castroist terrorist organization. A church representative shared with an agent or informant present in a meeting between Moonies and CORU in 1978 that Moon and his organization actively sought to fund “radical anti-communist groups,” and that WACL was 85% funded by the UC.

Most of the above documents are blocked out and one page says that “much of the information above is of a singular nature, and sensitive” and therefore should be secret. There are more pages than included here that are mostly blocked. The Moonie described in this meeting has not been determined by the description (white male, 6 foot, light brown hair, light brown eyes, light complexion, athletic built).

Coru statement in response to Tyre Nichols' murder:

Yet another police killing of a young Black man has occurred, and the police are said to be releasing the video footage later today. We encourage everyone not to share that video on social media, as coming across uncensored and graphic portrayals of violence can be harmful to marginalized communities who suffer from such abuse on a daily basis. If you need to see for yourself how brutally violent the state is towards people of color, there are ways to find it without increasing the possibility of adding to another's trauma.

This murder is another demonstration in a long history of similar demonstrations showing how racism and white supremacy are built into the system of US policing and why calls to dismantle and abolish police are justified. Policing does not make communities safe. Creating systems of guaranteed housing, education, medicine, and nutrition are how we build a safer, more just society. We stand with the communities torn apart by this senseless violence. Please support abolition efforts where you can.

If you feel called to action but you're not sure how, options can include contributing financially to Tyre Nichols' surviving family and/or reaching out to a local mutual aid network to see what work is already being done in your community. When it comes to liberatory activism, much of it starts with the people around you and building relationship, and therefore solidarity, right there.

Thalamhan's cityspeaker is inexperienced, and she's aware of it. After the Period of Silence that followed the death of Coru, the first cityspeaker, Tympani was rushed into replacing them. She had been a maid before, a friendly and respected face that people admired but never assumed would fit the sacred task of becoming the mouthpiece of the Titan. What little knowledge she had of cityspeaking was from the passing remarks of Coru themself, and even after her period of spiritual and mental training to condition her to her new position, she still felt like she didn't know everything; and so too did the Titan's translators, caretakers, and everyone else in the innermost circle of the colony's hierarchy.

The Titan herself is distant. While she communicates with and through Tympani, the latter knows that she is not used to her presence replacing Coru's. Tympani can't blame her for her bereftness, but sometimes she feels like the Titan doesn't even see her.

She wants to serve Thalamhan and fulfill her duties, but what if Thalamhan hasn't moved on?

The development and journey Lord Wyldon takes throughout Kel's page training (and beyond) is arguably my favorite character arc within any book I have read.
