Mental health and appetite
We’ve all experienced low mood, it’s nothing new. Many people deal with bad moments in their life by binge eating, while others find themselves eating nothing at all. This is obviously a huge problem in both cases.
Both above cases also come with good reasoning; binge eating being caused by dopemaine received from eating delicious foods, while eating nothing at all is caused by the total disappearance of appetite for various chemical reasons. As I have little experience with binge eating, I will not be talking a whole lot about it (sorry if you’re looking for ways to help decrease your appetite, I cannot help you there, not in a healthy way anyways). That being said, I have found myself eating a tonne of carby - sugar - foods for several days, due to a lack of appetite (because when you’re not hungry the only way to really get anything inside, is by eating “empty carbs”).
When you get sad, you are essentially experiencing some variance of your fight or flight instinct. This is a good instinct if you’re in a fight, but if you suddenly experience it because your thoughts wander in a bad direction, well that’s bad of course. Cortisol is one of the main ingredients in low mood (we will talk about depression later, since this is a different kind of sadness for the most part). The cause of low mood is entirely subjective and it can even be changed with time, this is what we’re going to address.
Low mood makes you feel full, and often unable to do much at all because it all feels like a chore, especially taking care of yourself. Unfortunately this is the best “cure” to low mood as well; taking a shower, cooking, talking to people. They’re not just ways of pushing your sadness to the back of your mind for it to return later, as much as you might think so, it’s wrong. It does help. The thing is you might not want it to help, which is what catches you in the trap. It’s a very hard thing to face, and takes a tremendous amount of will power and courage, to face yourself and tell yourself you’re tired of being sad, and change it.
Exersice is an even larger help then the above mentioned low mood “cures”, because when you exersice you burn cortisol. Cortisol, the product of stressful situations and the fight or flight response, is a chemical that allows the body to exert itself more, so you have more of a chance to survive, so if you go for a run when you start feeling low mood, you should notice an improvement in your mood (however, if you tell yourself you don’t feel different you might still be producing cortisol, and may need to keep exerting yourself). I don’t normally endorse the idiotic saying “Just walk/run it off” which many PE teachers have adopted, but in the case of low mood you may just find it works wonders.
You may however be one of the truly unfortunate souls who’s experiencing no improvement from any of the above “cures”. If this is the case, you have to contact your GP (doctor), because you may be suffering from some form of depression (and you must insist on being taken seriously by the doctor, because this is a serious condition). If you suffer from depression there is only so much you can do to improve your mood. This is because depression is different from general low mood as depression is not caused by cortisol but rather an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, which can be caused for various reasons. Balancing the chemicals is very difficult without help and anti-depressant medication may be the only way to help you improve your mood and in turn your appetite. But you must bare in mind that anti-depressants don’t do any of the heavy lifting, all they do is help lessen the depression, so if you want to tip the scale to happiness, you will have to take care of yourself with the above mentioned “cures” as well, and work on developing yourself. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as doing things.
What you need to realise and make part of your mantra is: Help yourself, understand yourself, want to feel better, and want happiness.
There are many things in life that can be attributed to luck or situation, but there are still things which are entirely up to you, the main things being your mindset and drive for progression.

How to overcome bad habits and addictions in my life?
tl;dr, dealing with weed addiction, bad sleep and depression for approximately 3 years and I don't know how to get out of this slump I'm in
I'm sorry if I wrote too much I just got alot on my mind, I got no one else to talk about my situation, I hide my addiction and depression from the people in my life and I gotta have some perspective on my situation and maybe some solid advice from people who went through the same perhaps.
I'm currently 28 years old, I quit my job of 3 years just recently. I got skills that can make me good money, I'm smart,I have a supporting family and friends around me, and some might say I'm good looking. I basically know what I need to do to make my life better but I also deal with depression and bad habits in my life, those bad thing made me fear the challenges in my life, felling paralyzed, disoriented and mentally weak all the time for too long.
I'm aware people have been dealing with alot more shit than I do right now but I just can't gather energy to pull this off, everything is overwhelming and seems so hard to do.
These are my main problems by urgency
• Weed addiction, smoking every day spending alot of money on this
• awful physical shape, I'm not fat or anything, I did gained wieght , I didn't work out for a couple years I feel like shit
• Massive sleep disorder, not been sleeping properly for like 3 years
• Bad diet, not drinking enough water, got no appetite during the day
• Watching too much porn and eating junk food (I'm basically a dopemaine whore)
• Lack of strong routines in my life, unable to stick to any good behavior
• Getting so overwhelmed and scared by the things I have to do, being lazy as fuck
• Not able to focus on anything and feeling sad all the time
• procrastinating all the time
• Zero confidence, breaking my own promises all the time and canceling on family and friends constantly
In the last 3 years I've been struggling with addiction and bad habits. These bad habits made me pause on important thing in my life, like working out I'm in the worst shape of my life , meeting a girl for serious relationship, developing hobbies and building my business. I'm in a slump for too long, I completely neglected my personal well being, physically and mentally. I feel like I'm living in a loop, everyday is meant to serve my addictions and "help" keep me in my comfort zone I got so used to. Everything but to deal with what's truly important in my life
My addictions made me into a person I don't want to be anymore. They are so automatically programmed in me that doing anything else seems impossible at the moment.
I have to change I've been thinking about it for so long, I have so many things I want to do with my life and I feel like it's now or never for me, deep down inside I know I can overcome this. But I'm scared, so scared, of hurting myself, that it's too late for me, maybe I'm just programmed to be this way. I'm sacred that my situation will get worse over the years, that I will hurt my family and disappoint everybody in my life, and eventually be this shadow of a person I used to be.
I see my friends and colleagues doing great in their life, and I wonder how, and it's killing me, it burns inside and it hurts so bad. I want to change, I tried to start moving in the right direction so many times only to fail myself time after time.
