Merlin Prompt/Idea:
Arthur calls a meeting of his inner round table (those that sat with him at the table of the ancient kings) except Merlin. He also tells everyone else not to tell Merlin. At this meeting they decide that Merlin will have a seat at the Royal Round Table.
Why is Merlin getting an official seat at the official and highly sought after Royal Round Table?
Because Arthur wants to marry him, of course!
This is step one to getting all the stuck up nobles to except Merlin as Arthur’s choice of spouse.
Does Merlin know that that’s Arthur’s intention with his appointment? No.
Does Merlin know that Arthur wants to marry him? No.
Does Merlin even know that Arthur has feelings for him? No.
Is Merlin increasing frustrated that he keeps getting excluded from half of the inner circle meetings despite gaining a seat at the official one? Yes.
Is Merlin going to give Arthur a piece of his mind once finds out that this entire roundabout thing was just a plot to get him as his husband? Undoubtedly.
Is Merlin going to be completely badass and show his capability as “queen” despite not knowing what’s going on? Absolutely.
What are the next steps?

No version of Neil/Nathaniel is easy to break - there’s a lot of persuasion involved in Evermore Kingdom’s quest for their next butcher to do his work without a fight.
(Or POV you’re realizing the young butcher is just as scary as you’ve heard but for vastly different reasons than the rumors imply)

Okay, but like...what if in "Queen of Hearts," Arthur followed through on his threat before Morgana did her sorcery frame-up, and he and Gwen just dipped (with Merlin, obviously)? Like, he leaves an Official Statement of Resignation on his desk with his signet ring, renouncing his claim to the throne and all that? The three of them are halfway to Essetir before anyone notices they're gone.
And on the way, they just happen to chance across some smugglers? Logic dictates that Tristan and Isolde started their hustle during Uther's reign for them to be as good as they are in S4 when Arthur had only been king a few months tops. They're still initially suspicious, ofc, but they warm up a lot faster considering the situation, and they're always down with someone who says "fuck the king" with their whole chest. The trio takes up with them bc they're always on the move and make a living on not being found, which is exactly what they need rn because Uther will be looking for them.
But if they want to stay, they gotta contribute. House rules.
Now, insofar, Tristan and Isolde are strictly transport. They're more or less fences. They don't do the actual theft part. But the trio can. Arthur can blend right in with the rich people they rip off, and he's bougie enough to pick out the Good Shit and pass on the knockoffs. Merlin and Gwen can blend right in with the servants to case the joint and swipe the goods, not to mention Gwen's knowledge of metalworking means being able to dismantle jewelry pieces without damaging them and making them untraceable, and Merlin can cover their tracks with magic (he'd have told them after they left) and create distractions as needed.
Arthur does have a small crisis when he realises he makes a better grifter than a prince, but then it's just really funny. He is now the Once and Future King of Thieves. Tristan and Isolde are the envy of the black market scene bc of their "secret weapons."
Bonus points if this is how they meet the rest of the squad bc legit the only knight that isn't a confirmed criminal is Percival, but he's also besties with Lancelot, so it's implied he might be.
Knights of the Criminal Enterprise.
you could have just kissed me on the spot you know

My new favorite Merlin AU is that Merlin finally confesses to Arthur about his magic, but Merlin is too flustered to think straight and there’s some miscommunication.
What Merlin says: I have magic 😔
What Merlin thinks he said: I am a powerful sorcerer and I use my magic every day to protect you and all of Camelot. We are two sides of the same coin, our destinies forever intertwined. Spare me and I will help you become the once and future king.
What Arthur hears: I know a few cantrips. Please don’t kill me.
So Arthur eventually comes to terms with Merlin knowing some magic and things kinda go back to normal except Merlin starts using minor spells in front of Arthur to speed up chores.
But then while Arthur is working to legalize magic (because of course he would) and make reparations to magic users, he asks Merlin to accompany him to a meeting with the Druids. Arthur asks the Druids to nominate a court sorcerer and they just look at him confused like
Druids: why not ask the great sorcerer Emrys?
Arthur: ok where do I find him?
Druids: points to Merlin sitting 1 foot away
Arthur: why did you hide this vital information from me!?
Merlin: … I did tell you, didn’t I? Whoops
Bonus
Arthur: Gwen! Knights! Merlin is the most powerful sorcerer to ever live! Can you believe it?
Everyone … yeah. We saw him shooting Lightning while riding a dragon just last week.
Arthur:🫨…😐

I love Merlin fanfics that are like:
"To pass through this cave you must say your full name and titles!"
So the knights and Arthur all go through while merlin is internally panicking about having to say allllll those titles. And the whole revealing magic thing as well, yeah.
i imagine it goign something like
"I am Merlin."
"Your title please?"
"Servant of Camelot?"
"And?"
"Merlin of Ealdor..?
"AND?"
"Son of Hunnith?"
"Are you even trying?"
"...Yes?"
"That's not even both your parents!"
"I don't know my dad."
"Yes you do."
"Nope."
"Yes."
"Nuh uh."
"I can tell when your'e lying!"
"FINE! Son of Balinor!"
"Now we're getting somewhere! And what would that make you?"
"The Last Dragon Lord."
"Now the rest of them!"
heavy sigh
"Emrys, Most Powerful Warlock, Protecter Of Arthur Pendragon, Guardian of the Once and Future King, King of the druids, magic incarnate- ect ect

Arthur is stuck in a time loop.
At first, he doesn't really notice it, since every day feels the same anyway. It's Merlin's good morning that irks him, however, because Merlin tends to switch up the routine a lot. When then the topic of the court meeting is the same, Arthur knows what's up.
In loop three, he asks Gaius for help and the man explains that only a powerful sorcerer could do such a thing and that he'd need strong magic to break it.
The next morning, everything is forgotten. And Arthur researches on his own what's happening. He spends days at the library until one day, he's just really tired.
And so, he stays in bed for a couple days, and lets Merlin complain for hours. It's soozing in an odd way. As days go by, Arthur gets bolder. He approaches Merlin in broad sunlight, hands him food or flowers in front of people and receiving odd stares.
Arthur waits for Merlin's reactions and they seem rather hesitant if also positive. Yet, when Arthur finally gathers up the courage to confess, Merlin rejects him.
Arthur spends another few loops in bed, while Merlin no longer carries any memories of the incident. Arthur then asks Gaius dejectedly who the most powerful sorcerer is he knows.
And Gaius says Emrys and tells him the man lives in the woods, a two day march from Camelot. Arthur loses hope. One loop equals a day. He'd never make it. That is IF the man is even there.
On loop xy, Arthur asks Gaius again, during a different time of day, where Emrys lives. And Gaius answers: about half a day ride north, Sire.
Arthur is confused. That doesn't make sense. Why would Gaius say something different than last time? Gaius was clearly part of the loop! Unless he's lying. And each time he lied he just said the first thing that came to mind.
Arthur stops avoiding Merlin at one point and accepts that Merlin won't respond to his feelings. So, he approaches him and tries to discuss magic issues with him. While Merlin warns him of magic like read from a script, Arthur argues positive aspects. Because he's trying to talk himself into turning to magic to maybe manage to save himself if he trained himself in the arts. Even if it takes years of the timeloop.
Unprompted, Merlin hugs him tight and looks at him with so much affection that Arthur is sure Merlin likes him.
Needless to day, Arthur is more than confused. And Arthur notices another thing. Both Merlin and Gaius react differently to him, depending on how he talks. If he's positive about magic, they are eager to help. Merlin looks most carefree then. And almost like he wants to ... Well, what exactly?
One loop, Arthur tests the theorie: Merlin, I'm going to lift the magic ban.
Merlin stops in his tracks and stares at Arthur. Arthur repeats himself, nervous of the response. Almost more nervous than he was when he got rejected.
Arthur: merlin?
Merlin: why
Arthur: because magic isn't as evil as my father had me believe.
Merlin: is this a trick?
Arthur: a trick? No. I just understand now that sometimes magic is needed. And I need magic right now. *Explains situation*
Merlin: ... arthur, i don't know how many timeloops you've been through
Arthur: you believe me? Uhhhh... 200, probably
Merlin: ... I can help you
Arthur: how?
Merlin: because I'm emrys

Merlin had been working for Arthur Pendragon for a year when something unusually strange happened.
This wasn’t “life-or-death-vengeful-magical-creature” strange. That happens every day.
No this oddity didn’t even involve Arthur.
The pompous prick had just left in storm of rage because Merlin was once again gone for days at a time and couldn’t give him a good enough answer as to where. Arthur knew Merlin was lying to him, and it was only a matter of time before the truth came to light, and Merlin’s life would be over.
He was still in Arthur’s chambers, in complete darkness. Body folded into a corner, with his arms wrapped around his knees that were being cradled by his chest.
He was sobbing.
Because life was so fucking unfair and he’s allowed to have a pity-party every once in a while. Merlin would say he’s entitled.
His sobs broke off into silence when a single candle lit itself, barely illuminating the room.
Merlin’s head popped up, wide eyed.
There was no one else. Just him.
And that had not been his magic.
Merlin was on his feet and ready for whatever was being hurled their way, this time.
They appeared, out of thin air.
Or she did.
A woman. With blonde hair cascading over over her thin shoulders. A deep green gown, that was beautiful but not embellished or bejeweled. And her eyes were like lakes, blue and too deep to see to the bottom.
Merlin’s breath was snatched from his throat as they stared at each other.
“Do not be afraid. I am not here to harm you.” She said, her voice was soft and melodic, the way Merlin imagined goddesses would speak.
“Who are you?” He whispered, before correcting. “What are you?”
“You can sense that I am not human?”
Merlin nodded, then narrowed his eyes, trying to put it together, but not quite having all the pieces.
“Every living thing gives off a vibration of sorts…a frequency… you give off nothing. As if you’re-“
“A ghost.” She smiled small but it held a secret joke that Merlin didn’t understand.
“You’re a ghost?” He questioned, further confused. “How are you here? It’s not anywhere near Samhain.”
Then the blonde woman’s eyes turned sad. And she turned to the window looking out at the lightless sky.
“There are some special cases.” She murmured. Then snapped her eyes back to him.
“But that is not why I’m here.”
Merlin’s eyebrows went up in expectation.
The woman’s expression turned to something that Merlin had only ever seen from his mother and Gaius. A sort of pity that’s shrouded in love.
She advanced on him and then settled her hands on his shoulders. Upon closer inspection, he could see the way she wasn’t completely opaque, but he felt her hands as if they were solid, flesh and bone.
“I know who you are, Emrys.”
Merlin practically hissed at the name and began to back away towards the door of the chambers.
“What are you planning to do about it? Tell the king?” Merlin was panicked now. If Uther knew then there would be no chance of saving himself. Or of saving Arthur.
“Calm yourself, dear. That is the last place I would be headed even if I did plan to tell someone.”
Merlin stopped, whispering, consciously aware of the guards that will patrol this corridor at some point soon.
“So why are you here?”
“Because, Merlin, I want to thank you. I want you to know that all that you’ve suffered, all that you’ve sacrificed, has not been in vain.”
What? How could she possibly know…
“I have been here some time, Merlin. Unseen but always watching.” She smiled again. “This was the deal I made. I gladly gave my life if they agreed to let me watch him grow.”
Time froze.
And suddenly everything clicked into place for Merlin.
He audibly gasped.
“You…” he started shaking his head as if it were a hallucination brought by bad wine or mysterious herbs. “You’re her.”
He stared back into those eyes.
Those eyes he’d come to know on a different human. Eyes he’d come to love.
“Yes. I am. And I have been here with him, watching him struggle and learn. Make mistakes.”
She clutched him again by the shoulders.
“Merlin, I want to thank you for taking care of my son.”
He was shaking his head and stuttering incoherently, almost silently, trying to find words to express everything he feels every day.
“You-I-your son is…a great man. And he’s going to be a good King. A kind, just, King.”
She smirked again at him, probably knowing more than he did about everything.
And then her smile turned soft as she replied.
“The Once and Future King.”
Merlin nodded, feeling a little giddy himself at the idea. Arthur sitting atop the throne of Albion and ruling his people in an age of peace, until he turns old and grey. Trusting the next generation to take the reins.
Merlin chuckled a little.
“The gods couldn’t have picked anyone better suited.”
“He will need you, Merlin. Especially in what’s to come. But this is nothing you are not already aware of.” She had a very soft smile, genuine, not one harsh line on her whole face. “I’ve also appeared to you now to say, I think you should be truthful with him.” Merlin’s instincts almost caused him to recoil from her again, but he stilled his body, as she continued. “I see him when you are not here, when he is alone, when he’s with his father. The way that he communicates his feelings are hurtful and he has no clue how to work through them. I am sorry that Uther raised him that way.” Merlin watched transparent tears slide down her pale face. “But you help him. He’s getting better with himself, with others. You are the light in his life, he wants to do better because of you, the way you see him.”
Merlin was crying too. He couldn’t help it.
He didn’t think anyone ever knew what really went on inside this blasted castle, but someone was here, watching him fail and try and try again and succeed sometimes, and keep Arthur and Camelot safe and happy. Someone has been rooting for him the entire time, he was never really alone.
“Hold on. Would he be able to see you?” Merlin whispered cautiously. “Do you want him to?”
“I’m afraid that it’s a little more complicated for people without magic. I was able to appear before you now, because your guard was down while you were crying. Your mental and emotional barriers were lowered and I was allowed to reveal myself. For Arthur and I to talk, I would need a lot of magic and a lot of trust.” She reminded him so much of Arthur in the way she hid her melancholy behind a dazzling smile.
“But that is not the reason I think you should tell him. He might be frustrated at first, but he will be far less angry than he was moments ago. He trusts you and he knows there is something you are not telling him. I think you would both benefit from a little honesty, him just as much as you.” She smirked at the last comment.
Merlin cannot believe that he just got talked into revealing his magic by the Queen of Camelot.
This day is so strange.
Wait-
“What does that mean? What is it that Arthur is keeping from me?” He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and thought. He knew almost everything about the man. He could probably paint him blindfolded at this point, with every buckle and button in perfect place. He knew his sense of humor, his daily schedule by heart, he knew everything Arthur thought about everyone, and Arthur knew the same of him…almost.
Except for that one-okay, maybe two things.
Maybe Arthur had an exception also.
“You will have to be vulnerable in order to find the answer to your question.” It almost sounds like a riddle of Kilgarah’s but the Queen’s made a lot more sense to him than the Great Dragon’s usually did.
“When he returns, avoid cornering him in the room. He does not do well with-“ the lady cut herself off for the first time, somehow even ghosts were conflicted in their thoughts. Her face hardened, “Uther used tactics like this to intimidate Arthur when he was a boy being scolded. For absolutely nothing at all. For doing things that boys should be doing!” Her voice reached its loudest volume and she stumbled farther away from him, wide-eyed.
“I am so sorry, Merlin. I have not spoken to anyone in so long. I didn’t not mean to get angry.” Tears welled in her blue, blue eyes.
Merlin could not stand it.
“There is nothing to apologize for. You have every right to be angry. I am angry. Sometimes with destiny, or dragons, or evil unknown forces lurking in the dark. But always at Uther. For treating Arthur that way, like an animal raised for slaughter. And for never realizing how much it scarred him. And for never changing, or apologizing. Never once. He is not even human anymore.”
They stood there, locked into each other, sharing in their grief, in their pain for this boy that they love more than life.
And then they heard footsteps, both parties equally startled for different reasons.
“Good luck, Merlin.” Igraine was smiling softly again, as if it had never left, maybe that is what Arthur does for her. What he does for them both. Bring the color and joy back into the world like a breath of clean air. “You will do well.” She nodded, before starting to disappear, back into the invisible ether of the castle.
Then the door swung open to reveal Arthur, looking almost apologetic, but also scanning the room before landing his eyes back on Merlin.
“Who are you talking to?”
“No one. Myself.” Another lie. Shit.
This isn’t going well and he’s three words into it.
The prince opened his mouth as if to retort but Merlin stopped him confidently proclaiming,
“Arthur, I need to tell you something.” It was as though Merlin could feel a weight physically lifting off his shoulders as soon as the words left his mouth. “Quite a few things actually. I have not been honest with you. But I don’t want to keep secrets anymore.”
Arthur stood momentarily speechless, surprised at Merlin’s change of heart.

An AU where Merlin is literally a God in Mordred’s eyes. Like, a genuine God.
In this AU Mordred and Merlin’s relationship is not fucked up by prophecy. So, everytime, kindhearted Merlin saved Mordred without hesitation. And Mordred grew up in a Druid camp that reinforced the idea that Emrys was a literal god. So naturally, HE WORSHIPPED MERLIN.
Once Arthur became king and magic was legalised, Mordred came to Camelot to become a knight because that was the best way to serve Emrys.
But when he arrived at Camelot, he struggled to comprehend the fact that Merlin was… human???? A very clumsy one, in fact. The rest of Camelot, though might know about Merlin magic, did not know how great ‘Emrys’ actually was so they were just confused, concerned, and/or entertained by Mordred’s ‘crush’ on Merlin.
He would stare at Merlin the entire first meal they had together, and people would be like: awww, Sir Mordred is crushing on Merlin so hard!!
Mordred: Emrys??eats??food?Food??Is ?eaten?by? Emrys?emrys?consumes?meal????
Or when he saw Merlin tripped on the training field
Mordred: i think the area is cursed. Strongly cursed.
Leon: what—
Mordred: THEN WHY ELSE WOULD EMRYS TRIPPED?????
Arthur: So, how have you adjusted to life in Camelot so far? Is there anything that is bothering yo—
Mordred: Merlin
Arthur: what did my stupid manserva- I mean Court Sorcerer do-
Mordred: I saw him drank water today
Arthur:
Mordred: He just drinks water????? From glass?????? Like?? He drank?? Water???? You know??? Literal water????????????? For drinking???HE??needs??water?to??live?why??
Morgana: why did I saw Mordred ran out of the meeting room screaming that you guys are trying to ‘Destroy his faith in his religion’. You knights better not bully him because he is a druid and has magic—
Gwaine: I told him Merlin is not here because he needs to take a shit.
Lancelot: Hey, Mordred, I noticed that Merlin has not received the note I asked you to deliver to him yet.
Mordred: But I already send it to him?
Lancelot:
Lancelot: Tell me how
Mordred: I burned it at the altar
Lancelot: what altar—
Mordred: and pray to him, as one should???
Merlin: WHY IS THERE SOMEONE SCREAMING IN MY HEAD THAT I HAVE AN IMPORTANT MEETING TOMORROW AT NOON!?
Or when they went on a long mission or hunting and Merlin, out of his old habit, made food for the knights
Mordred: ‘this is the most excellent food ever had bestowed on me, I shall never forget about this Emrys. I will pray to you even harder. I am the luckiest Druid to ever live—- ‘
Percival: … is the stew that good?

It was in that unfortunate moment that Merlin realised he was in love with an idiot.
“I’m sorry, you did what?” Merlin asked flatly.
“In my defence - ”
“No,” Merlin cut him off before he could finish that sentence because there was simply no way Arthur was talking himself out of this.
“Well, really - ”
“No,” Merlin said again.
“I think you’re being very unreasonable about this Merlin,” Arthur protested. “It was an honest mistake, I’m sure they’ll understand.”
“No.”
“Merlin.”
“There’s no getting out of this,” Merlin snapped.
“Of course there is,” Arthur dismissed. “They can’t seriously…” he trailed off at Merlin’s stony look. “Merlin,” he began, and now he sounded hesitant and unsure, “did I marry a member of the sidh today?”
“Yes,” Merlin confirmed. “By accident. Apparently.”
“I’m sure they’ll understand.” But the expression on Merlin’s face must have finally registered because he said, “Surely there’s a way out of this.”
There was. Of course there was, it was going to be tricky and awkward and involve him saying words to Arthur he’d never planned on saying out loud. But a marriage contract with the sidh? Even an accidental one - and don’t think they wouldn’t be talking about how that even came about - was binding in ways beyond the standard laws. To get out of this was going to require something deeper and stronger.
Merlin gave a pained sound. Why did he always end up being the one to rescue Arthur from this sort of thing?
“Do you love me?” He asked, blunt and to the point because the moon would be rising soon and they were short on time.
“What? Merlin? What are you talking about?”
“Arthur this is very important, it won’t work unless you tell me the absolute truth.”
“What won’t work? You’re not making any sense.”
“Do you love me?” Merlin repeated his question and this probably should have been a very lovely and emotional moment but instead they were sitting around a campfire and Merlin was very aware that the other knights were blatantly eavesdropping when they were supposed to be very studiously not paying attention.
“Merlin,” Arthur managed to make his name sound like a threat.
“Arthur, I’m serious.”
For all that Merlin had hoped his feelings might be returned, he’d genuinely never thought they’d be having a conversation like this.
But Arthur finally seemed to realise Merlin wasn’t playing around because he swallowed, looked everywhere but at Merlin before he seemed to find it in himself to say, “Yes.”
“Right, then.’ Merlin stood from the log he’d been sitting on and said, “Please don’t kill me after this,” and then summoning his magic around him, embracing his identity as Emrys, Merlin stormed off into the woods to stake his pre-existing claim on the idiot king of Camelot.
He’d have to deal with Arthur learning about his magic once he was done.

*council arguing why arthur shouldn’t marry merlin*
merlin, over the loud bickering: if i may add something
*everyone quiets down, looking at him with irritation, arthur with curiosity*
merlin: as i’m the court sorcerer, you know i have magic, but you do not know everything.
merlin: the druids refer to me as emrys, the most powerful sorcerer to walk the earth, literally magic incarnate.
merlin, ignoring the shocked stares: not only does that make me immortal, it makes me the closest thing the druids have to a king. to sum it up for you, arthur would not be marrying his former servant or camelot’s court sorcerer, he would be marrying the king of magic.
*council is dead quiet*
arthur, smiling deadly at his betrothed: and why, merlin, am i only hearing about this now?
merlin, shrugging, not at all phased by arthur’s poorly disguised irritation: wasn’t relevant until now.
arthur, shookened by the fact that he’s basically engaged to a god: WASN’T RELE-
arthur: y’know what? nevermind. *turns to face the council*
arthur: so as you can see, you need not be concerned with our betrothal, council dismissed.
cue the council scurrying out of the room like a herd of sheep, arthur just being exasperated with merlin (and a little awestruck but don’t tell merlin that)
king arthur and king merlin lived happily ever after
the end

Au where merthur have soulmate identifying mark but merlin is the only one who know they are because if Arthur knew he would find out about his magic 👀 (arthur's mark being a beautiful dragon mainly on on his back but its tall is draped on his torso, a wing stretch on his right shoulder, another end on his hip and its head rest upon his stomach. As if it were jealousy protecting him. its scale are of a blue so dark it nearly look black. It has golden eye and tread of gold on is horn, gold shimmer on its body highlighting its scale at some place.
It screams powerful sorcerer.)
And thus it doesn't change anything from the show. Merlin doesn't tell him not even at the very end (Merlin's mark is a smaller red dragon with its head on his shoulder and who is is holding itself on his shoulder)
It would be very angsty but also SO FUNNY if in a post return futur where arthur (Gwen, the knights) are very confuse and lost but luckily for them there exist multiple center for "People who got Teleported at the wrong place/Bought back from the dead? We are here to help!/ your five yo drank a weird potion? No problem! Etc" basically Magic help center.
Just imagine basic social worker sorcerers who tries to do their job at 3 am and see THE Emrys mark ™ on a random dude and they are like *gasp*.
Them : what the fuck
Arthur :???
Them :WHAT THE FUCK
the others :????
Them : we are calling your soulmate RIGHT NOW. WHAT THE FUCK should I call the government too???? I'M NOT PAY ENOUGH FOR THIS.
Arthur : my???
Them : YOU. DO NOT MOVE IF I LOSE YOU I'M DEAD. DEAD.
You can imagine arthur pendragon pacing like a 13 years old stressed before an oral presentation because even if he was afraid then thought he globally didn't really care about his soulmate. He realised that it wasn't so much that he didn't care but he thought it would simply never be so he just... Kinda forgot about it. Now he just can not put it away because is soulmate IS coming and WHERE IS MERLIN WHEN HE NEEDS HIM (he is blocking any thoughts about Merlin potential dead thank you very much)
(Gwen is currently finding the situation extremely funny because she figured out in 5x13 and she is 80 yo (in a younger body but still) . And she is waaaayyyyyy to old to see her former husband stay in his denial.
Leon is 78 years old and he is slowly recognising the dragon in question that look very much like Merlin's family crest. He is looking at his wife in a very conspiracy way.
Gwaine is currently not really giving a damn about the whole soulmate thing. What do you MEAN you can send messages to people in less that a second?!?!?
Elyan would usually not give a damn but he is very much not happy ™ to find out that his sister (first) husband had a soulmate mark who isn't dead and he is glaring at Arthur but he is also getting a hug from gwen so it doesn't look menacing at all.
Perceval (57) is right behind Gwaine but he is currently watching himself in the mirror because seeing his younger self again is weird asf
Meanwhile Lancelot is talking with the assistant (on the verge of a break down because they are going to see the GOD OF MAGIC OH MY GOD) about magical history

The King's Men - Chapter Four
Day: Tuesday, January 9th Time: 10:25 PM EST
"I'm not a striker by choice, either," he said. "I was a backliner in little leagues. Riko remembers because I scrimmaged with him and Kevin. He made me play defense with his Ravens over Christmas." That finally got Andrew to lower his arm. "Little leagues, he says. I distinctly remember you telling people you learned to play in Millport." "Partial truth," Neil said. "I knew how to play Exy. I just didn't know how to play offense. I didn't want to be a striker, but Coach Hernandez didn't have any room on his defense line. It was striker or nothing, and I wanted to play too badly to walk away. Now I can't imagine playing anything else." Andrew said nothing for a while, then, "You're more a raccoon than a fox." Neil stared. "What?" "A raccoon," Andrew said, and mimed holding a ball in front of his face. "Exy is the shiny object of your sad little world. You know you're being hunted and you know the hounds are closing in, but you won't let go to save yourself. You once told me you don't understand why a person would actively try to die, but here you are. I guess that was another lie." "I'm not trying to die," Neil said. "This is how I stay alive. When I'm playing, I feel like I have control over something. I feel like I have the power to change things. I feel more real out there than I do anywhere else. The court doesn't care what my name is or where I'm from or where I'll be tomorrow. It lets me exist as I am." "It is a court," Andrew said. "It does not 'let' you do anything."
