#Emerald Nuts - Nice and Spicy

Note
Yay! Asks are open :)
can I request a rook hunt x reader where reader is just as flirty/complements people as often as him? Maybe they get into a poem stand-off or something?
any pronouns are fine :)
have a good day! Please remember to drink some water and take breaks! <3
Summary: Rook and Y/N are known for being the all time flirts at Night Raven College. Y/N is determined to have a flirt/poem duel with the blonde. But who will win the seduction standoff?
Y/N goes by They/Them Pronouns
Characters: Rook Hunt
Warnings: none (close contact and flirting?)
A/N: This was such a good request and I’m so sorry if I got any french wrong I’m not a french speaker and @puddingqueen-writes thank you bae ily 🥺💕
Y/N was a tough nut to crack for Rook. Typically when he would flirt with people he would either make them flustered, would flirt back slightly, or they would brush him off. But them… they flirt back just like him as well as flirt with others. They were both known for being the most flirtatious people on campus, however Y/N was eager to top him and take his title.
They decided to text him.
Y/N: Hey Rook ;P
Rook: Ah, ¡Mon Amour! What is it?
Y/N: Well it has come to my attention that we are known as the most flirty people on campus
Y/N: And I think we should have a duel to see who’s better >:)
Rook: I see, mon amour. This is quite the dilemma, come to the Pomefiore dorm. I will be waiting ;)
Y/N could use this as an opportunity to confess to him. Rook was just so alluring and beautiful, it was no surprise that he was a perfect fit for Pomefiore. And while Y/N had to be confident inorder to tease people the way that they did, their heart beat seemed to accelerate when around the hunter
They tried to keep their true feelings for him at bay, as he seemed like the type to not be tied down. But they knew that they had to try and confess at least once.
It was the afternoon in the Pomefiore dorm, the poem battle was soon to commence. Rook stood on his stand opposite to you and Epel was in the middle, reading the rules of your guy’s duel. Surprisingly there were alot of people attending this flirting event. Y/N only asked for their friends to come. With Deuce, Ace and Cater on the side and a reluctant Grim, who only came because he was promised food.
Y/N thought that it was just going to be a casual thing. However, in very Pomefiore fashion, everything was very flamboyant. With mics and stands for the two contenders, banners with both of your names on them, as well as a large screen for countdown.
“Welcome all to the Poem Battle taking place in the Pomefiore dorm! In this corner we have the renowned NRC flirt, Rook Hunt! And his opponent, the seduction rivalist, Y/N L/N!” Epel announced excitedly. He continued further to explain the rules, “The requirements those participating must adhere to are simple; No touching, no interrupting, and no cheating. If you stutter multiple times, lose composure, blush, or show any signs of flusteredness you will lose. However, enough with the formalities...
BEGIN!”
Rook was quick to press the button laid out in front of him, damn him for his quick reflexes.
“My dearest, Y/N. I would say shall I compare thee to a summer's day, however that would be too predictable. You’re unfazed and cold to my advances like a harsh winter, yet you leave me begging for more,” Rook said slyly.
Y/N buzzed their button after his statement. “Rook, your hair’s beauty is like no other. With such gorgeous tresses reminding me of lilies brimming with youth and color.”
Ace laughed at the exchanges, only to look by his side to see a flustered Deuce. “Dude, are you alright? How are you flustered but you’re not even up there?” the redhead smirked.
“S-shut up, Ace” Deuce retorted.
The counter went off, again.
1…
2…
3…
GO!
Y/N was quick enough this time! They went for his other stunning features, his eyes. “Rook, your eyes do entice me like emeralds within the dark rough. While kind and beautiful, they have much edge. What do you plan to do to me, Rook Hunt?”
Cater was so supportive for his friend in the crowd, “Ooh that was spicy, Y/N!”
Ace gave him a glare, “Pipe down, if they laugh they lose!”
“I’m sorry, I’m just trying to be supportive,” the boy pouted.
It was Rook’s turn to speak now, “Ah, that was a lovely one, mon amour. However, I must say your motivation to seduce me is like no other, if you could indulge moi as to what you’re thinking in that sinful little head of yours.”
Y/N admits, the blonde almost had them with that one. To protest against his teasing and say ‘I’m not thinking sinful thoughts!’, but they had to restraint themselves.
They had to get Rook’s title.
Y/N wanted to end this battle and speak their mind, as it may go on forever if they didn’t or they might lose. Y/N cleared their throat, stood straight and confessed with elegance.
It was either now or never.
“Rook, I truly wish you were mine. Living our lives together as one is a dream that I want to fulfill with you. All it would take is a yes to part from your lips, pink like the finest lotus, and I would be there on hand and foot for you.”
Rook was stunned, stuttering as he could tell that they weren’t joking, a blush taking a pretty pink color on his cheeks. “M-mon amour-”
He was too slow, and the buzzer rang out with a great volume.
“Y/N wins!”
Y/N heard a bunch of cheering from their friends and the crowd. With people saying that they couldn’t believe that they won against the renowned flirt, Rook Hunt. In honor of their victory, ‘Team Y/N’ were about to go out to eat. With much pressure from the hungry flame cat beast accompanying them. But while victory felt good, Y/N had to make their feelings clearer. No more misunderstanding, no more games.
“Go on without me, I’ll catch up. I have to talk with Rook.” Then they went after him, going through the Pomefiore dorms, you found him on the balcony.
“Rook!” you called out, before pulling him into your arms. He smiled at you.
“Oui, mon chou?” He asked.
“Please know that I meant everything I said, it wasn’t just for this competition. I really like you,” you said.
“Ah, mon cheri I already knew that,” he confessed with a smile, still holding onto you.
“You did?” you said surprised. Was he a human lie detector? But then again that wouldn’t be the strangest thing you’ve heard.
“I can tell alot from a person’s demeanor. I am a hunter, no?” Rook said playfully, releasing you from the hug softly.
“Now, would you do me the honor,” moving quickly he dipped you, placing a rose in your hands while doing so, “of being mon seul et unique?”
Y/N’s body heated up, now they were one who was nervous.
“Yes, I will,” they nodded. He brought you back up to place a kiss on their lips.
Bonus:
Now that Rook and Y/N were together, they had both made it their goal to love and appreciate each other everyday.
Even if it tortured other students.
"Dear Great Seven, make it stop!” Ace exclaimed, placing his head on the table in frustration. The couple couldn’t stop going at it with different poems, sonnets and other romantic quotes toward each other.
Cater giggled at their exchanges, “I think it’s cute!”
While they were both sickeningly sweet, it was nice to see them happy and such beautiful love blossoming

❄YULE❄
Tumblr media
❀ also known as winter solstice
❄ When Is Yule?
one of the shortest day and longest night of the year
❄ Northern Hemisphere: 20-24 December
❄ Southern Hemisphere: 20-23 June
________________________________________________________________
❄ What Is Yule?
❀  Yule, also known as the winter solstice, is the celebration of the shortest day and the longest night of the year. The sun reaches its southernmost point in the sky in the Wheel of the year’s cycle. Yule is the celebration of the abundance of light, we are celebrating even though the darkness has taken over our green earth; we  are aware that from this day forward the days will become lighter. Also, the sun king is now returning and will begin to thrive. It’s a time for renewal in all aspects and makes us aware that the brighter, longer days are near. At this time, fires were traditionally burnt by the Celts in order to frighten off the wintery cold and to welcome the sun.
________________________________________________________________
❄ How To Celebrate It:
❀ If you are not aware, Christmas as we know it was traditionally the pagan holiday Yule. Many ways that you can celebrate Yule are similar to the ways that Christmas is traditionally celebrated. So, you can decorate pine trees and yule logs etc, as many of these rituals are meaningful to both holidays. There are tons of things you can do and everyone will have their own way of celebrating just as many people have their own individual ways of celebrating Thanksgiving or Christmas. Here are a few ideas:
  ⛄ Activities:
❀ Decorate a Yule tree: around this time of year it’s a tradition for pagans to bring pine trees into their homes and hang food on them for wandering spirits, so that on the coldest day of the year the spirits have somewhere to reside and food for this day and night.
❀ Start planning for the future and the warmer days to come.
❀ Write your goals for the next year in your Book of Shadows.
❀ Plan spells that you would like to try out in the coming months.
❀ Make plans for your herb garden.
❀ Burn small pieces of pine in a cauldron for good luck in the new year.
❀  Bring old pine into your home, for protection and protection spells.
❀  Create an evergreen wreath to hang on your door. This represents continuous life on this earth, how life and warmth will always return to the Wheel of the Year even after a long and cold winter. The wreath can be created with mistletoe (fabulous for healing , protection and this plant represents growth and fertility.) Or you can simply have mistletoe in your home too to symbolize these positive properties.  Holly can be combined with mistletoe , as it represents the marriage of the sun returning to earth. Holly is also amazing for its protective purposes alone, Ivy, which can represent everlasting life including growth of the natural earth, can also be included. Of course, you could also include many other seasonal plants and maybe create the base from pine; this is amazing for protection, particularly relevant to this Sabbat.
❀ Celebrate the Sabbat with a meal with Yule-related food for your loved ones.
❀ Sing solstice carols.
❀ Spells such as fire spells, prosperity spells, new beginnings, yuletide charms, and peace and luck for the months to come, are all great to cast at this time.
________________________________________________________________
Tumblr media
❄ Altar Ideas ❄
Decorate your altar at this time of the year with relevant decorations to honour the Sabbat and give thanks to your deities.
❄ Make use of the seasonal colours of red, white, black and green. They represent warmth and the darkest and coldest night of the year, as well as the warmer green days that are on their way.
❄ Mistletoe
❄ Pine cones
❄ Ivy
❄ Yule log
❄ White and black ribbons represent the cold and dark days surrounding you.
❄ Though it might seem irrelevant, pictures of the sun can be great; this welcomes the sun king back and honors the warmer days to come.
❄ Food And Drink ❄
Good foods and drinks for around this time of year are anything with strong, warm and spicy flavours. This honors and welcomes the return of the sun, while also warming you up. Suggestions are:
❄ Spicy food such as curries
❄ Cinnamon-flavored or spiced cakes
❄ Ginger Tea
❄ Hot apple cider
❄ Spiced mulled wine or wassall
❄ Seasoned soups
❄ Spiced buttermilk bread
❄ Nuts
❄ Crystals❄
Relevant crystals to carry around with you this time of the year, to meditate with, to use in divination and spell work and to place at your altar are:
❄ Bloodstone
❄ Clear Quartz
❄ Emerald
❄ Garnet
❄ Citrine
❄ Herbs❄
Herbs that are relevant at this time of the year are seasonal plants and also those that represent warmth. You can dry these herbs at your altar for future use; they’re amazing for cooking and making teas (depending on what they are and if they’re edible) as well as using them for magical workings too.
❄ Mistletoe
❄ Fir
❄ Oak leaves
❄ Pine needles
❄ Camomile
❄ Cinnamon
❄ Cloves
❄ Nutmeg
❄ Incense ❄
You might need incense to use around the Yule time during casting circles, burning at your altar, for cleansing and consecrating, as well as for magical workings. Good examples are:
❄ Cinnamon
❄ Cedar wood
❄ Pine (all winter tree scents)
❄ Bayberry
❄ Frankincense

Vegan food at Marriott Hotels and Resorts in Southeast Asia
By Paul Eyers on Aug 17, 2019 in Accommodation, Asia, China, Food and Drink, Going Out, Hong Kong, Hotels, Resorts, Restaurants, Singapore, Thailand, Travel Miscellany, Vietnam
Our eternal vegan travel travel adventure has taken us to many glorious destinations and long may this continue. As much as we love checking into a luxury hotel and resort, our true raison d’être is to find, eat and write about the best vegan food in the world. One brand that seems to deliver delicious plant based cuisine time after time is Marriott, we have enjoyed vegan food at the below Marriott Hotels and Resorts in Southeast Asia during the last year. From city centre hotels to ocean front resorts, each of these locations went above and beyond to create vegan food that makes us want to go back for more!
The unique and mind blowing JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa is located on Phu Quoc island off the southern coast of Vietnam. Although just a short flight from Saigon, it is a million miles away from the fast paced life of the city. It is also unlike any resort you have ever experienced previously, kind of like an imaginery wonderland with surprises around every corner. Designed by the legendary Bill Bensley, this resort is the stuff dreams are made of and has to be seen to be believed.
An omnipresent offering for breakfast all over Southast Asia, noodle soup, is as simple as it is delicious. Sadly, a vegan option is seldom found as the stock is commonly not suitable for vegans. So when we find a hotel with homemade vegetable stock as an option we certainly don’t want to miss out! The flavoursome stock, with rice noodles, vegetables and tofu presents a perfect plant based breakfast option.
Part of our lunch at ‘French & Co’ was this creative salad that was colouful, eye catching and quite simply, beautiful. It looked almost too good to eat, but trust us when we say we ate every last morcel of fresh, crunchy and nutritious goodness on our plate.
Pink Pearl is the fine dining restaurant at JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa and this is where the culinary creations are taken to the next level. Upon request, they prepared a vegan tasting menu with paired wines that was sublime. Truffles were in season and they played a pivitol role in our meal including this dish with spelt, mushrooms and parsely foam which was one of the best plates of food we’ve ever been served.
With more rooms and suites than any other hotel in the city, Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queens Park presents both business and leisure travellers alike a great option within easy reach of everything that Bangkok has to offer. We love the location with many rooms overlooking Benjasiri Park and BTS Phrom Phong just a few minutes walk from the hotel.
We ate these dumplings every day. We love dumplings. In fact, we can’t get enough of these glutinous parcels of deliciousness. Again, we often miss out as vegans, due to either lard in the wrapper or a non vegan filling so when we discovered that the dumplings at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queens Park were 100% plant based we happily worked our way through a healthy amount…
You can find fresh vegetable spring rolls, or summer rolls as they are often called, all over Southeast Asia, but rarely do they look as good as these ones from Siam Tea Room at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queens Park. They were part of the vegetarian menu which was on offer, more and more hotels now have a vegetarian or vegan menu which of course makes us very happy indeed.
For dinner we were super excited to be dining at Akira Back having had such a great experience previously at Akira Back Singapore which you can read about below. It’s safe to say that we were not disappointed and our meal lived up to all expectations and more. Again, there is a vegetarian menu with clearly marked vegan options including this Tofu Tobanyaki of lightly fried tofu fillets servd on a medley of vegetables.
JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach is modern, stylish and oh so vegan friendly. This luxury, city centre hotel boasts two swimming pools, a gym and multiple F&B outlets creating the perfect city centre oasis for guests who are staying in one of the 624 well appointed rooms and suites.
The buffet breakfast at Beach Road Kitchen was extensive to say the least, it offers one of the largest selections we’ve seen for some time meaning those that are searching for plant based options will certainly not be disappointed. You can expect everything from soya milk lattes, vegan friendly congee and a wonderful array of fruit, salad, roasted vegetables and hummus. But that’s not all, we enjoyed a delicious Sayur Lodeh vegetable curry and freshly baked ‘Breakfast Pizzas’ laden with apricot jam, seeds and nuts that were naughty but nice.
Akira Back was our destination for dinner and we were excited, very excited. Chef Akira Back is known for his innovative creations and we were to enjoy a vegan tasting menu which we had pre ordered. There are vegan options on the standard menu such as the below ‘Bell Pepper Carpaccio with Nanbanzu’ but for the full plant based experience be sure to request the vegan menu at time of booking.
Every dish was outstanding with creative presentation, perfectly paired ingredients and flavours that left you wanting the meal to never end. The ‘Crispy Tofu with Kochujang Soy and Finger Lime’ was one of our favourites making it straight onto our list of ‘Top 10 tofu dishes of all time’.
Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa is located overlooking the impressive beach in Hua Hin with many of the rooms and suites enjoying far reaching ocean vistas. Five pools are set with beautifully manicured grounds, creating that luxury resort vibe that was exactly what we were looking for after the 4 hour taxi from Bangkok.
We enjoyed breakfast and lunch at Amber Kitchen which is open all day offering a buffet breakfast and an a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. We loved our healthy salad (complete with quinoa and flax for that protein hit) and also found Indian curries and congee on the buffet which were vegan friendly. In addition to these options, the staff team happily arranged a bowl of noodle soup with vegetable stock and stir fried vegetables with rice.
Not wanting to miss out on the flavours that Thailand is well known for we were happy to eat ‘Tao Hu Phad Med Mamuang’ otherwise known as fried tofu with cashew nut which certainly hit the spot. The smoked chillies complimeted the slightly sweet tofu, with the fried cashew nuts adding depth and crunchiness. A simple dish, executed perfectly and very good indeed.
Our vegan dessert dreams came true when we were served a trio of sweet delights. First was a creamy pineapple and coconut sorbet which was followed by cubes of mango coconut and decadent cherry and almond chocolate cake topped with fresh rasberries and edible gold. Bravo to the chef who made us very happy with the plant based desserts that he created.
Last but by no means least, is the wonderful JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong where we experienced the highest level of service, some memorable vegan food and wonderful views of Victoria Harbour from our spacious and sophisticated room.
JW Café is the all day dining restaurant where we enjoyed breakfast each day. From crumpets with peanut butter to freshly prepared vegetable dumplings and rice noodle soup there were plenty of options on the buffet. The staff were also happy to prepare additional items upon request including this fried tofu, topped with shitake mushrooms and asparagus, served with a super spicy dipping sauce.
The chef in The Lounge served a couple of outstanding salads as part of a specially requested vegan menu. They were vibrant, healthy and packed with plant based nutrition making for the perfect meal prior to our impending 13 hour overnight flight.
Presentation and creativity were at the forefront of these dishes that were full of flavour and delciousness. The second offering included sweet roasted pumpkin, earthy beetroot and sour, lemon citrus gel combined to create a dish that was as pleasing on the eye as it was on the palate.
We love that our vegan travel adventure which began in 2014 has coincided with the explosion of veganism worldwide. Luxury hotels and resorts have continued to increase their plant based offerings in line with the demand for vegan food. This includes Marriott who have impressed us time after time in Southeast Asia with their ability and willingness to cater for their vegan guests. Long may the vegan revolution continue!

The 12 Best Irish Whiskey Brands for 2020
If corn-rich mash bills and charred new oak define bourbon, and single malt and smokey peated expressions are synonymous with Scotch, then what exactly is Irish whiskey?
The Emerald Isle produces four types of whiskey in total: malt, grain, blended, and pot still. Of those, only pot still is truly unique to Ireland. By law, pot still whiskey must contain a minimum of 30 percent each malted and unmalted barley in its mash bill. Up to 5 percent of other cereals such as oats and rye are also permitted. As the name suggests, this style is distilled in pot stills. Like all other types of Irish whiskey, pot still must age for a minimum of three years in oak before release.
While pot still is the only style that’s unique to Ireland, by no means is it the only one worth sampling. Those who enjoy cask-finished whiskeys will be happy to find a number of Irish brands embracing the additional aging process. Rather drink a single malt? There’s plenty to be found in that realm too, with many age-statement bottles that come in well below the price of their Scottish counterparts. This broad range of options is no doubt appealing to whiskey drinkers, and has surely played a significant role in Irish whiskey becoming one of the fastest-growing spirits categories in the U.S., now worth over $1 billion.
Like all spirits, the best way to fully understand and appreciate Irish whiskey is by drinking it. To showcase the rich depth of options on offer, VinePair tasted dozens of bottles to determine the best on the market right now. From aged single malts to cask-finished pot still expressions, here are the 12 best Irish whiskeys for 2020, tasted and ranked.
12. Tullamore D.E.W. Caribbean Rum Cask Finish
A triple-distilled blend of pot still, malt, and grain Irish whiskeys, this is a smooth-sipping, fruit-forward option. There’s a distinctive banana chip note throughout, balanced by walnut and spice. Hints of molasses and toasted oak (imparted by the rum cask finish) add character and subtle complexity. Average price: $29.
11. Sexton Single Malt
Arriving in an unconventional, new-age bottle, this is a rich and approachable whiskey. Malted barley dominates the nose, followed by sweet undertones of green apple and milk chocolate. The palate is lively and fresh, with a spiced finish. Average price: $28.
10. Teeling Single Malt
Produced in the first new distillery to open in Dublin in over 125 years, this single malt is matured and finished in no fewer than five different types of wine barrels (sherry, port, Madeira, white Burgundy, and Cabernet Sauvignon). The result is a dizzying but enjoyable mix of leather, fresh fruit, nuts, earth, and spice notes. Average price: $60.
9. Slane Triple Casked
This “triple casked” whiskey matures in new oak, former Tennessee and bourbon whiskey barrels, and sherry casks before bottling. The wood influence is notable throughout, starting with sweet baking spice aromas that are kept in check by fresh fruit notes. The palate is bold and full-bodied, with a distinctive charred spice and chocolatey finish. Average price: $27.
8. The Irishman Small Batch Founder’s Reserve
An interesting blend of 70 percent single malt and 30 percent pot still whiskeys, this release is robust enough for cocktails but has plenty of character to enjoy on its own. Ripe peach and vanilla aromas lead the nose, while the palate is full of spice and dark chocolate. Average price: $32.
7. The Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Madeira Cask Finish
A double-distilled single malt, this whiskey ages for 10 years in bourbon barrels before it’s finished in Madeira casks. The fortified Portuguese wine imparts honeyed, golden raisin aromas and hints of walnuts. The palate has an intense, well-rounded flavor profile, defined by toasted oak and spice. There are cheaper whiskeys with age statements on this list, but this bottle is worth the splurge for special occasions. Average price: $81.
6. Knappogue Castle 12 Years Old Single Malt
Triple-distilled and aged for 12 years in bourbon casks, this single malt has a rich, inviting nose. Aromas of dried stone fruits, nuts, and citrus peel mingle with the unmistakable scent of malted barley. That combination continues onto the palate, with a light, fruity finish providing the ideal whiskey for summer sipping. Average price: $47.
5. Powers John’s Lane 12 Years
Powers ages this pot still release for 12 years in a mix of second- and third- use bourbon casks, while a small proportion also rests for one year in oloroso sherry butts. The result is a luxurious spirit that is complex and concentrated in character. Baked apple, honey, and baking spice notes provide a robust core, while hints of leather and earth add nuance. Average price: $71.
4. Glendalough Pot Still
A truly Irish whiskey, this release spends the final year of maturation in virgin casks made from Irish oak. That oak influence is well integrated on the nose and the spicy, tangy pot still character is still easily identifiable. The palate is similarly spiced and fruity, and also serves heady toasted oak and vanilla flavors. Spiced notes linger on the finish for an age. Average price: $56.
3. Bushmills Single Malt 10 Years
The single malt category might be synonymous with Scotch whisky, but this 10-year aged expression from Bushmills offers stiff competition. The lengthy aging develops complex leather and earth aromas, which offer a nice contrast to the youthful scent of fresh fruit. The palate has a light-bodied texture, but also serves a rich depth of flavors, including dried apples, honey, and spices. This is a delicate whiskey for those who enjoy subtle pleasures. Average price: $46.
2. Kilbeggan Single Pot Still
This whiskey takes advantage of the 5 percent of other cereals that can be included in the mash bill of pot still releases. In this case, Kilbeggan adds 2.5 percent oats, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but takes a center stage in this whiskey’s character. The distinctive aroma of breakfast oats mixes with fresh apples and baking spices on the nose. The cereal is also present on the palate, adding a distinctive flavor and a creamy, rounded mouthfeel. Average price: $45.
1. Redbreast Single Pot Still Lustau Finish
A blend of malted and unmalted barley, this whiskey is triple-distilled before it embarks on a long aging journey, beginning with nine to 12 years in bourbon and sherry casks. A final resting period adds a special finishing touch: one year in oloroso sherry butts sourced from famed producer Bodegas Lustau. The double sherry influence doesn’t overwhelm the nose, with dried apricots, almonds, and a hint of vanilla instead leading the way. The palate shows a lively mix of ripe stone fruit and nut flavors, with the sherry cask influence fully presenting itself on a lingering sweet and savory finish. Average price: $73.
