Fixing You
Billy Hargrove x Reader
Tumblr media
(Too Much Love Will Kill You - Queen)
According to Billy Hargrove you saved his life twice, the first was when he first met you and he was new to Hawkins. He was an ass but you saw straight through it, and he watched you from afar to start with but when he started changing little things to get your attention like not hitting your friend Steve as much, not driving so recklessly and actually making an effort to not be a dick, he knew he had it bad for you.
He had a good heart, he had a really good heart that was tarnished by a horrible man and a childhood based merely on memories of his mom. He’d told you the deepest memories he had of her and you knew he would always love her but you also knew there was a lot of darkness holding him back but you were determined to be the light in his life if you could be. And to him you were his light and you were his lifeline, he didn’t live for much but that all changed when he came to Hawkins.
Neither of you did too much about the obvious attraction that was there but small things like quiet drives in the rain, helping him stitch up the cuts from his dads outbursts, late nights at the pool talking for hours and just being with each other through intimate moments that meant the most to both of you. He had changed and for the better and he put it to you for saving him, he would be a lot worse if it wasn’t for you. And for Billy that was the first time you saved his life.
That’s why when everything happened that night and started to change and he could feel the mind flayer taking over, he pushed you away. It hurt beyond belief and it hurt him more than the mind flayer ever could but he would not let it get you, not even close.
You couldn’t understand why Billy completely pushed you out, he wouldn’t even look at you and in fact when you saw him the other day he acted like he didn’t even know you and it was convincing. Sighing you left your house ready to meet your friends at the town fun fair but Dustin stopped you in your tracks, he was rushed and practically dragged you to the mall in an alarming flurry of emotions.
“It got Billy!” He finally screamed as he tried his best to explain but all you got was Billy was in danger and needed your help.
Getting to the mall you saw him leaning over El and they were both crying you could tell by the way Billy’s shoulders were shaking, slowly walking towards them you tried your best to ignore the huge mind flayer, the fireworks and all the yells.
All you could hear was El.
“7 feet.” She said softly through her tears making Billy falter.
“You told her 7 feet, she was pretty.” Gasping tears filled your own eyes recognising the description of his mom and watching as his tears fell. She was helping him, she was taking over his mind so this thing couldn’t and you couldn’t love her more for being so selfless.
“Billy!” You yelled as you watched him stand, looking back he shook his head through his tears knowing what he needed to do. His heart shattered at the look on your face and you screamed out once more.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered before putting his hands up to stop the arms of the mind flayer getting to El. He pushed back with all his might and you could see almost in slow motion what was going to happen.
“No!” You screamed running to help him as your feet ran before your brain processed what you were doing, you pushed him away sad El ran to safety. You don’t remember much you heard Max scream for Billy and a sharp pain to your side.
“Y/N! Y/N no what have you done.” Billy cried as he and Steve ran to get you out as they yelled over each other about the gate being closed.
— — —
Blinking open your eyes you winced in pain finally being able to see through unblurry vision.
“Ouch” you mumbled pushing yourself up.
“Hey don’t move, don’t move.” The voice was stern but strained and worried, looking to your right you saw Billy. He was showered and looked a hell of a lot better than the last time you’d seen him.
“Billy.” You choked out throwing yourself into him as he leaned into you breathing in your neck.
“You almost died, you almost fucking died Y/N.” He whispered and you felt his tears on your neck.
“So did you.” You said through your own tears blinking them away to just see the white ceiling of the hospital room.
Pulling away he looked at you and grabbed your face.
“I am never, ever leaving your side again.” He promised before pushing his lips passionately onto yours.
The door opening and a doctor walking in distracted you both and as he grabbed your chart Billy held your hand with a firm grip.
“Miss Y/L/N, what do you remember of the car accident?” Raising your eyebrow Billy cleared his throat.
“She doesn’t remember much doc.” You went along with it shaking your head with a genuinely confused look.
“Well when the car flipped your leg caught between two scraps of metal, you’ll need to have a a few physio sessions to get back to normal walking as your side was also injured but I’m sorry there wasn’t anything we could do about the scaring.” Billy’s grip tightened at his words in fear you’d blame him for all of this.
— — —
“Come on you’re doing well you don’t even wobble anymore!” Billy teased as he stood a few feet away from you in your kitchen.
“If you want the water you’ll have to come and get it.” With a determined look you pushed yourself up got your balance and walked relatively normally to him and snatched the bottle from his hand.
“See I can do it.” You snipped making him grab your face grin and kiss you.
“I know, I always knew you could.” I mean his words made your heart melt but you knew he blamed himself so he was with you every step of the way, literally. He helped you get back to walking more, finding your confidence and finally you were back to doing more. Thank god it was summer and you didn’t need to worry about school or anything at all just you and Billy.
Looking down at your leg the sun had caught your skin making the scars much more prominent and a sad smile fell on your face.
“Hey, don’t look at it, look at me.” Billy flirted lifting your face with a gentle finger.
“It’s not me looking at it that bothers me, it’s you looking at it! I don’t know how you can possibly find me attractive with those all over my legs, and I highly doubt you want to walk around with me hanging off your arm-“
“Stop it. Stop. I don’t give a shit about the scars, I don’t care about a little limp and I don’t care about what other people think. You saved my life, like an idiot, if anyone should have scars it’s me! I don’t want you for a second thinking I don’t find you attractive because you blow my mind every single day.” His words ended with a soft kiss on your hairline and he sighed.
“You promise?” You asked falling onto the kitchen chair.
“I promise and I’ll promise you the same thing every day for the rest of our lives. You save me every day Y/N.” He finalised settling between your legs.
“I love you.” You told him making him gulp and nod.
“I love you.”
Later that evening when Billy left he sat in his car and turned on the engine, but didn’t go anywhere. The clenching in his chest was enough to make him want to scream and every time he left he hated himself a little more. Seeing you slowly start to hate yourself killed him, he knew it was his fault and he knew eventually you would start to realise it too. Hitting his steering wheel he swore and drove home, getting there he went inside to find Max his new habit was to check she was okay too because believe or not he started to show he cared more. Another thing he thanks Y/N for.
“You okay?” Max asked this time as he stood in her doorway.
“Sure, you?” He asked stiffly making her nod.
“Yeah, is Y/N okay?” She asked making him sigh and just walk off, Max followed and settled on the end of his bed.
“You can’t keep blaming yourself, she doesn’t so you can’t.” Max told him as he ran his hand through his hair.
“Fuck Max it’s not that easy. She doesn’t blame me now but she will! How can she not?! She hates her scars she hates how they look eventually she’ll hate me for that!” Max sighed and shook her head.
“She chose to save you Billy, she loves you too much to blame you for what happened.” Those being her final words she went back to her room.
— — —
“He thinks what?” You snapped as Max stood on your doorstep.
“I know and I thought I’d tell you because I’m worried, he blames himself for a lot and I just you know I don’t want him to be how he used to be.” Max’s words hit you hard and you felt bad for not realising the impact this had on him too.
Grabbing your jacket you walked to the pool where you know he was working today, and when you got there you were a little achy but proud. When he saw you he jumped down from his seat and rushed to you.
“Are you okay? Did you walk here?” He asked worried.
“Yeah all by myself, and I’m okay!” You promised and grabbed his hand. “But we need to talk.” His heart pounded in his chest as you locked the door.
“Is uh is everything okay?” He asked nervously, too nervous to sit.
“No, well yes but no. Look Billy, I was so selfish, I was so caught up in myself and working on healing this that I didn’t realise how hard this has been for you too. You went through a lot of shit and dropped it to fix me and I didnt stop to think you need me too. I saved you that night and it’s the best thing that I ever did because you’re still here with me. Please, please stop hurting yourself more, I will never hate you or regret what I did. And if you ever need me so you can talk, yell, cry anything I’m here for you just like you have been for me.” You said gripping his hand so tight you were scared it might break.
Billy couldn’t find the words he needed to say, he couldn’t believe he’d found someone who truly knew what he needed and when. He was so happy in this moment and the tight uncomfortable clenching in his chest changed to one of love and so much of it he couldn’t do anything but grab you and kiss you.

A Flower and its Stem
In actuality this is all @drhu0806‘s fault AND I HOPE SHE KNOWS THAT.
I’m just kidding I love you have some leorrin floof <3
Leo and his three siblings were only allowed to visit their distant sister on occasion, and such trips normally resulted in Kamui bolting out of the Northern Fortress the moment they arrived to greet them with massive hugs and a beaming smile.
Jakob was there to receive them instead on one particular visit, however; a feat which instantly set Camilla and Elise on edge.
Leo too, if he were being honest.
"Where's Big Sister?" Elise demanded of the butler the moment she jumped out of the carriage, and Jakob twisted his lip.
"Lady Kamui isn't in the lightest of spirits, I'm afraid," he explained, looking unnerved. "It would seem the canary Gunter gifted to her on her eleventh birthday passed this afternoon and she's quite upset about it."
"Oh, the poor dear," Camilla murmured sadly. "She was so fond of that sweet little thing. How could it only live for two years?"
"Don't worry, sister. Knowing Kamui I'm sure offering to train with her will cheer her up in an instant," Xander said reassuringly.
"Or a big hug!" Elise chimed in, bouncing on her toes.
Leo remained silent, knowing this was likely Kamui's first run in with the concept of death. Despite his siblings' positivity, they probably wouldn't be able to shake her from her sadness and confusion, but he didnt have the heart to tell them.
His analysis turned out to be accurate, as later that night while passing through the bedroom wing he came across Camilla exiting Kamui's quarters with a troubled expression.
"Even braiding her hair into that style she loves didn't help," she sighed to herself, then looked directly at Leo. "Darling, perhaps you can do something? It kills me to see her like this."
"I'm not sure what you think I'll be able to accomplish," he griped, "But I can try."
"I know you doubt it but she loves you, Leo. Perhaps you're exactly who she needs right now," Camilla expressed.
Leo remained silent as he proceeded into Kamui's chambers, the greeting room seemingly empty. He noticed the doors to her bedroom were closed, an unusual sight considering she didn't like sealing herself even further away from everyone.
"Sister?" he called out, rapping softly on the wooden barrier. When she didn't respond, Leo took it upon himself to enter, and the sight of his sister solemnly observing the now-empty bird cage at the far end of the room left him disheartened.
She was always smiling, always giggling over the most ridiculous things. Seeing her like this was simply wrong.
"Sister," he uttered as he approached her, and the girl turned to glance at him for a brief moment before returning her eyes to the object in front of her.
"Hi, Leo," she almost whispered, hanging her head. "Come to try your hand at cheering me up? Camilla made you, didn't she?"
He stiffened at that, feeling a twinge of guilt and hurt. Despite her words, he stepped forward, his eyes coming to rest on the intricate silver bars of the cage.
"I've been practicing with Brynhildr again. Father even smiled when I showed him how I've improved," Leo said, and Kamui's eyes flickered to the tome in his hands. "Would you like to see what I can do?"
"Leo, I don't-" Kamui began, but the prince just reached for her hand and tugged her toward the center of the room.
"Go ahead and sit, I just need a moment to prepare myself," Leo ordered, and Kamui tilted her head slightly before plopping down onto the floor.
He chanted the words that were starting to become like a second language to him, his hand clenching as he absorbed power from the depths of the tome nestled in his arm. Kamui's eyes went wide as he manipulated a mist of green and black between them, which eventually took the form of a small, thorny bush with white blossoms.
And, to his pleasure and relief, she smiled.
"Leo, it's beautiful," she murmured, her smile only growing as he knelt down and snipped one of the flowers from the plant, then offered it to her. She delicately took the preoffered rose into her hands, cupping it though it were the most precious thing she had ever laid eyes on.
Such a simple gesture was enough to change Leo's entire outlook on his older sister.
"Brynhildr isn't simply for battle," the boy told her softly, and she carefully looked up at him - her expression one of tenderness and awe.
"No, I suppose it isn't," she whispered in response, her ruby irises sparkling.
Years later, Leo and his actual siblings became allies of the Hoshidan royals - Kamui's legitimate family and a group he never thought to be associated with. She led them against the invisible threat that sought to tear the neighboring kingdoms apart, appearing steadfast and fierce despite everything they encountered.
But Leo saw the tiredness behind her eyes, the silent doubt that crossed her features when she suspected no one was looking. He had never quite seen Kamui as a sibling, a part of him knowing she wasn't of his blood even before it had been revealed to him. Since then, the feelings of respect he had possessed for her had developed into something far more tender - and when the Nohrians had initially believed Kamui to betray them Leo dreaded the day he would be forced to bring her down.
Said day never came, by the grace of the gods, and instead the Nohrian outcasts took residence in the astral plane along with Hoshido's best - Kamui at the forefront of it all.
Just as he had when they were younger, Leo kept an eye on the young woman, noting how most evenings she would wander away from the mess hall before everyone else and seemingly disappear. At one point, she stopped coming altogether.
Brynhildr tucked under his arm, Leo sought her out on his own accord when she didn't turn up for supper for the third evening in a row, investigating all of her usual haunts and finding nothing.
"You lookin' for Kamui?" Kaden, who was curled up under a tree nearby, asked. "She's probably at the temple with Lilith. This is about the time she heads over to make an offering."
"I was just there," Leo countered, crossing his arms. How could the kitsune of all people possibly know her whereabouts?
Kaden just yawned, then shrugged. "Might check the spring, then? Or maybe she retired to her quarters already. Can't say for sure. Anywho-" His eyes suddenly shut as he curled back into a ball against the trunk of the tree, the conversation with Leo obviously over.
It was then that a distinct streak of silver flashed in his peripheral vision, and Leo turned just in time to catch the sight of Kamui rushing into the grove of sakura trees near the outskirts of the castle. Wasting no time, he hurried after her, thankful to be void of his armor for once.
Upon entering the rows of pink foliage, Leo found that Kamui had seemingly vanished among the grove. Only the faint sound of sniffling alerted him to her location, which ended up being just a few feet from where he stood.
Leo hesitantly approached the princess, who had her knees drawn up to her chest and was weeping softly into her open palms.
"Kamui?" he called to her, and the young woman startled in an instant.
"Leo," she breathed, scrubbing at her eyes as she swiftly rose to her feet. "W-what are you doing here?"
"Seeking you out, obviously. You've been disappearing frequently as of late," he answered, slowly stepping toward her. "Why are you crying?"
Kamui didn't respond at first, looking away from him instead. With a sigh, she finally replied, "Just... many things."
"Many things?" Leo repeated, and the girl nodded.
"Stress, primarily," she began, looking up toward the sky. "And the fact that we nearly lost three people in the last battle. If Xander hadn't stormed in when he did they would've..." she trailed off, her lip quivering.
"Kamui, we're in the middle of a war. Casualties cannot be helped sometimes, as harsh as it may sound." Leo said, resting a hand on her shoulder. It was hard to believe he practically towered over her now, when just three years ago she constantly teased him about how "short and cute" he was.
She sighed at the comment, resting her hand over his. The odd warmth of her skin quickly seeped into his fingers, rendering him a bit flustered at the contact.
"I know," she uttered, "But as our leader it falls to me to see everyone safe. Knowing I could fail those dearest to me with a single error... it eats away at my mind almost every day."
The prince understood such worries, as he himself had commanded his fair share of armies and had been the catalyst of their survival or demise, in the end.
"Such is why you must make the best of the situation, no matter the outcome," he told her sternly, before bringing Brynhildr forward. Kamui eyed it in confusion, but her eyes lit up the moment Leo drew power from the tome, producing a single red rose in the palm of his hand.
"Oh, Leo," she breathed with a smile, her eyes going misty with nostalgia. "I remember this."
"I thought you might," he murmured, then bent forward and carefully tucked the flower into her hair. "There," he said, holding her chin between his fingers and examining his work, "That's the Kamui I know."
Leo could've sworn her cheeks had turned the faintest shade of pink, but he passed it off as simply being the flurry of sakura petals swirling about them.
Forrest was everything they could've hoped for in a child.
He was beautiful; sporting pale eyes, chubby, pink cheeks, and a tuft of pale hair on the crown of his little head. Their son hardly made a fuss with the exception of certain necessities, allowing his parents many nights of restful slumber despite what their friends had reiterated to them about parenthood.
But one night, the babe simply couldn't be consoled, no matter what his mother and father did.
"I hope he isn't coming down with something," Kamui said worriedly, her arms bouncing the months-old boy in an effort to soothe his hiccuping cries.
"Gods, let's hope not," Leo agreed, his brow furrowed as he studied the babe's disposition. Being a new parent certainly had its challenges, but this was unknown territory entirely.
"He isn't warm, so we can rule out a fever," Kamui analyzed, her fingers stroking their son's cheek. "Perhaps he had a nightmare? Mine have always been very vivid."
"Can they even get nightmares at this age?" Leo asked, wincing when Forrest's cries went up an octave. His wife instantly cradled the infant closer, cooing at him softly and nuzzling her nose against his.
"Come on, Forrest, let Mama see your smile again," Kamui pleaded to the infant, the sight causing Leo's heart to ache.
That's when an idea came to him.
"Leo, where are you going?" Kamui asked as he stood from their bed and wandered over to the vanity across the room.
"I'm going to try something," he said, reaching out to pick up Brynhildr from where it lay. Walking back to the bed, he took up his previous spot, then opened the tome to a specific page.
He breathed the words of conjuration, drawing familiar magic up from the artifact and into his hand. Leo beamed at the expression Forrest wore, the now-silent baby completely enthralled by the yellow blooms his father manifested out of thin air. To both Leo and Kamui's delight, a gummy smile replaced the scowl on their son's cheeks, his crying at an end.
"As luck would have it, I possess the key to making you both smile," Leo murmured to his wife with a smirk. Kamui grinned at the inquiry, moving to gently take one of the roses from him.
"You never fail to do so, my love," she breathed in sincerity, giggling when Forrest's pudgy hands curiously reached for the flower she held. "And we're so very grateful for that, aren't we, Forrest?"
Not as grateful as I am for you, my dear Kamui, Leo thought with a smile.
If a single blossom could bring peace and stability to the two beings he loved most in the world, surely Brynhildr could be put to use far more often.

Life after Syria: the migrants’ tale a photo essay
More than 3.5 million Syrian refugees now live in Turkey as a result of a conflict that has raged since 2011. Many take to the seas off Turkey to make the short but perilous trip to Greece
Tumblr media
With migrants only allowed one backpack each on the smugglers boats that carry them from Turkey to Greece, Ahmed, his wife, Hanin, and her family packed a few possessions and sent the rest of their belongings to friends. Then they waited.
It should have been the defining moment of a journey that began as Syrias conflict escalated, forcing two Palestinian families to flee their homes in the suburbs of the capital, Damascus. Hanin and her family left in 2014, and Ahmed two years later for Turkey, where they were introduced in the winter of 2017.
Tumblr media
Ahmed makes a phone call at a bus stop during a 20-hour ride from zmir to Kilis to meet his fiancee for the first time
Living in different cities, they exchanged text messages for months before Ahmed took a 20-hour bus trip from zmir Turkeys third largest city located on the Aegean Sea to the border town of Kilis to meet her, which led to their engagement.
They were quickly swept up in a flurry of wedding preparations: searching for the perfect dress, struggling to wire money across Western Union offices, planning a two-night party. Their engagement party was in Kilis, right across the border from war-torn Syria

More than 3.5 million Syrian refugees now live in Turkey as a result of a conflict that has raged since 2011. In 2015, more than 800,000 mainly Syrian and Afghan migrants took to the seas off Turkey to make the short but perilous trip to Greece. The numbers fell dramatically the next year after a deal between the European Union and Turkey to stem the exodus.

Night in Hilal, one the poorest areas in zmir
Hanins younger brother, Hamza, was among those who left earlier, heading to Germany four years ago. The family yearns to stop communicating via patchy video calls and reunite in Europe. All the sorrow for my son is in my heart, said Turki, Hamza and Hanins mother. She said her weak heart swelled on dreams of seeing her son again.
Ahmed, who studied English literature in Syria hoping to become a translator, worked 14-hour shifts at a textile factory in zmir, where the couple moved after they married.

Ahmed, Hanin and her mother visit a pastry shop in Kilis
Hanins mother packed nuts in a factory while her father sold Syrian cigarettes. They aimed to save $3,000 that they would need to make it to Greece, their first stop on the way to Germany. The family followed a Facebook group created by volunteers in Greece, posting about arriving boats, accidents and weather conditions.
Every day, they heard and read stories of stormy waters causing accidents and of families drowning at sea because they didnt have enough money to buy life jackets.
Maybe these are signs that we should not go, Ahmed would sometimes say in the lead-up to their 2018 attempt. Every new problem is trying to say something to us. But he saw no option but to leave Turkey, because staying meant he would keep working in that factory forever.
Dozens of migrants have died during their journey via Turkey to Europe, according to reports by state-owned Anadolu Agency. Some drowned in the Aegean Sea, others died in vehicle crashes, while many froze to death while trying to cross borders on foot.

Finally, they packed up, bought life jackets a simple but risky transaction which carries the possibility of arrest. On their last night they went out for dinner with friends, then waited nervously at home for the call to head to the beach. The sleepy children played with life jackets and showed off how they would swim to the island. The adults agreed that if Hanin or her mother felt something was wrong, they would turn back. Ahmed stared at his phone.
At 11pm, the smuggler still had not called to tell them to head to the beach. They feared they had lost their money again but he eventually called a few days later. They were driven to the beach, where they had to climb hills and walk through the forest to reach their departure point. They piled into the dinghy with 26 others and set off. The people on the small boat were loud, so the Turkish coastguard found them, 20 minutes away from the border. They were driven to jail and held for three days.

The family says they can try again with the same smuggler, for no extra fee, though Ahmed is despondent as he watches the clouds gathering above the darkening waters. I never felt worse, he says. So much thinking, and a storm is coming.
A year later, the family still wants to move to Europe but have written off the boat route. They dont want to suffer the sting of humiliation again, the insults in holding cells, the waste of their limited funds. Ahmed said he would never go back to Syria because the situation has worsened, and because he would have to serve military service and fight for president Bashar al-Assad.
Tumblr media
Hanins brothers, Osama and Mohammad
He says despite working 12-hour days, six days a week, his salary is not enough to pay rent, bills and food. The long hours leave him exhausted, as does the racism he says he sees on Turkeys streets, on public transport and social media. My dream nowadays is to travel legally to Europe because we are very tired here, he said.
