I’m attempting again to do some predictions for season 2. The last time I tried this I got too bogged down in the details, this time I’m going to try for broad strokes. I am no longer trying to map songs to episodes, though someone else can try if they dare.
The series will continue to explore what Gobo’s friendship with Junior looks like. Meanwhile the other fraggles will remain understandably cautious of gorgs.
The video Doc acquired of fraggles interacted will either get deleted or corrupted in some way, she’ll assume some kids are playing a weird prank on her, or like Doc Classic, she will not be able to see fraggles at first.
Lanford can talk in this season.
Jamdolin will reveal that in his youth he was very much a worrywart like Boober, and they will bond over it (Fun is Here to Stay)
When Doc sings Free and High, she will not know she’s singing with the fraggles. Maybe Lambert's powerful pipes will resonate throughout the rock and be heard in the workshop, and she’ll find herself singing along…to a song she never heard before. Magic is infectious, after all. She’ll be a little weirded out by this, and be motivated to seek out answers about spontaneously breaking out into song.
Junior will struggle to make his parents see his point of view about the fraggles. He will make some headway with Ma, when he mentions something he heard Gobo talk about regarding getting advice from the Trash Heap. She will seek this advice herself (Be a Queen)
Just going by song list I can tell it will get heavy in the last few episodes.
Doc will be the sort of ‘main antagonist’ of this season, kind of like Junior’s role in season one. She will do things, albeit unwittingly, to interfere with the delicate the balance of the rock. Conflict will come to a head before Doc and the Fraggles somehow bridge the gap and they become friends. Where Gobo bridged the gap between gorgs and fraggles, it will be up to Red to reach out to Doc (The Hope we Build Together)
As for sorting guest stars…
I mean, obviously Daveed Diggs revives his role as Jamdolin. He’s pretty much a staple of the show. There are also four other new guest stars not assigned roles: Adam Lambert, Brett Goldstien, Adriana DeBose and Catherine O’Hara. There are also four characters we’ve spotted in images.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The redheaded fraggle has spoken in the trailer and her voice is very Catherine O’Hara like. I believe that is her. I also believe she’s more or less a representative of the ‘lost fraggles’, a group of fraggles who got separated from main population way back when. This probably explains her antique looking/renaissance inspired clothes.
Both the tiny glam fraggle and the big glam monster look like fitting characters for Adam Lambert, but I’m giving it to the purple guy, as his only song is with Wembley and Pogey, not a whole auditorium of people.
Between Brett and Ariana, Ariana seems more fitting for the tiny concert fraggle, and Do the Sashay feels more like a showstopper song than Brett’s 2. Which leaves Brett to be the craggle. He is, I suspect, a fill in character for Lyle, functionally. They probably wanted to tell more craggle stories, but weren’t able to get Ed Helms back for the second season.

“Why do you keep posting that picture of Ray Toro with Gonzo from The Muppets? Why do you keep posting that video of Gerard Way talking about the film Labyrinth? Are there any videos?” And other questions, answered.
A bit of background:
In 2016, the Center for Puppetry Arts and the Jim Henson Company co-hosted the first Puppets for Puppetry benefit event in order to support the non-profit organization, the Center for Puppetry Arts. The CPA is the largest organization in the United States dedicated to puppetry, and contains the worlds largest collection of artifacts from the Jim Henson Company, as well as one of the largest collections of puppets and puppetry materials in the world.
The inaugural Puppets for Puppetry event fell on what would have been Jim Henson’s 80th birthday, and served to honor and highlight the life and contributions of Dave Goelz, a core member of Henson’s team since being hired on as a part-time puppet builder in 1973. Since then, Goelz has gone onto perform various characters, most notably originating daredevil, performer, and chicken-lover, Gonzo the Great, who he still performs to this day. Goelz also performs such characters as the scientist Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, the easygoing saxophonist Zoot, the depressed and cautious Boober Fraggle, the adventurous and proud Uncle Traveling Matt, and was a puppeteer of the small and hot-headed Sir Didymus. It’s easy to see from this resume why he was the first choice for the first ever Puppets for Puppetry event.
But, where the hell does My Chemical Romance fall into this?
Another aspect of this event was that it also served to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Jim Henson’s cult classic film, Labyrinth, which also happens to be the film that features Sir Didymus. The musical guests invited to perform the tribute to Labyrinth were Gerard Way and Ray Toro, joined by Jarrod Alexander, Matt Gurney, and Jamie Muhoberac.
Midway through the show, they performed a medley of the songs from Labyrinth, including “Underground” and “As The World Falls Down.” Considering that Gerard has stated that Labyrinth is one of his favorite movies, and that the Jim Henson Company is one of his favorite “creative collectives,” this performance should come as no surprise. Dan Garza, one of the puppeteers at the event, confirmed this year on Twitter that Ray also provided guitar backing for the finale, a performance by Dave Goelz and various puppeteers at the event of “I’m Going to Go Back There Someday,” Gonzo’s song from the first Muppet Movie.
Wow, this is great! I sure hope there’s videos!
It’s complicated. While there are a few clips of the cover of “Underground” floating online (HERE and HERE) and one of Ray performing “Helena” with a young fan, the event was meant to be recording-free since it was a benefit concert. There are rumors of a longer video existing at some point, and a very glitchy AltPress page with dead video links, but other than that... nothing. I have personally emailed the Center for Puppetry Arts, the Jim Henson Legacy, and the Jim Henson Company in an attempt to dig out any other videos, but have come up with nothing. If there are longer videos out there, I haven’t been able to find them.

DANCE UR CARES AWAY!!!!!!!! WORRIES FOR ANOTHER DAYYYY!!!
ranboo and aimsey fraggle!
rb plz/nf
(under the cut i talk abt my designs n stuff if ur interested)
ok im gonna talk abt aimsey first cuz their design caused me grief/j
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These were my first few choices for colour pallets.
light blue and red, the loght blue comes from the classic(?) fin shirt and the red comes from the shade of hair i chose! ultimately i decided the red body with red hair didnt follow the fraggles design consistency.
Blue body, yellow shirt, the shirts colour comes from the flower(a nod to the daisy beanie ) as a way to try to carry the yellow out.
The next ones don't differ much, the blue is darker, and more muted and i think it works better for not only the fraggle setting the the colour pallet overall.
red body, dark blue sweater. i was fucking around trying to figure things out and this was the closest the red n blue look nicer together but the red body red hair is still an issue
finally i settled on the final combination
Tumblr media
dark blue body red sweater the blue is still a nod to the fin shirt and the red matches the browns and reds that i often see in others fanarts !
im so proud of how they look lol.
i didnt struggle as much with ranboos design.
at first=.='
ok so i dont have as many pictures for them, but im just gonna talk lol.
at first the purple n teal where switched, and i realized while messing with it that having their body be purple i can nod towards the particle chat design! and suddenly everything was easy.
untill i had to draw their outfit, even now i dont like their outfit? it looks way to modern i guess lol but its cute!
i simplified the jacket from their v-tubers modle slapped an anklet on them n called em done, ill probably come back to these designs n shit.
for references i used Boober and Wembley's puppets as a base for their snout shapes! but looking at background and other prominent fraggle characters helped
(using specifically old footage and trying to keep in mind the designs of the older show/media)

OUG do you have like. A favorite type of puppet???? I can't remember what most of them are called but you probably know what I'm talking abt as far as how different puppets are made and handled and stuff gsjdhdjdhdjs
YES I DO!!!!!!!! TY FOR ASKING.
So Live-Hand (or Sackbodies) puppets are my favorite, and what those are... are basically rhe ones where one big hand goes into the mouth and the other two hands are manned by the mouth-ers other and another person OR a seperate person entirely while the one hand in the head is another. Either way it's a two person job.
Examples would be Rowlf, Fozzie, Cookie Monster, Oscar, Marvin Fraggle, the big wide ones that aren't full body costumes but do require a lot of body put into.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're SO COOL??????? LIKE... Arm Rodded puppets are great. They're the classics but it's so fascinating that using the human hands helps adds to the life-likeness they have. It helps add character.
Kermit as a Rodded puppet relys on his puppeteer being able to make fluid movements with the rod in his hand, as well as moving the body with also the same amount of fluidity.
Live-Handed, have a bit of a one up. Like with plastic puppets, since their hand is a LITERAL human hand just in felt it helps add to the realism they have.
It's why Fozzie is so animated, he moves around like a neurodivergent kid after seeing to many danganronpa sprites. We love realism put into puppets it's my favorite....

Lagom | Pedro Pascal x Reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Pedro Pascal x fem!Reader
Wordcount: 2.5K
Warnings: Just fluff and some mild angst! One bed trope kind of??
Summary: Three months have flown by since you've been able to see your beloved Pedro in person, thanks to quarantine. Facetime and phone calls have never been the same as actually seeing him in person, but a surprise calls warrants more than a bit of excitement.
A/N: Lagom: not too much, not too little. just right.
***
Your phone buzzed in your pocket, sending you jolting forward. The waiter who had just brought your coffee blinked at you warmly before you shot him a small shrug.
“Sorry,” you murmured as you fished your phone from your pocket. “Just a phone call.”
You said a small thank you for the drink before quickly making your way back to your car, just as your eyes came in sight of who was calling.
“Mi amor” read the name in large white text, accompanied by a goofy picture of your boyfriend, his glasses twisted on his nose as you kissed his cheek. The picture had been taken months earlier, before quarantine had even begun and split you two apart. Life had been normal, practically perfect before... Now you were just trying to pick up the pieces.
You hesitated with your finger hovering over the phone before you finally answered, plopping down in the driver's seat of your car. It was quiet on the other end, but you couldn’t force yourself to speak first, not with the way your lip was trembling.
Pedro finally spoke. “Babe?”
Tears burst in your eyes, warmth growing in your face as you dug your fingers into your shirt sleeve.
“Hi,” you croaked, running a hand through your hair. When had you last spoken, a day, a week? You couldn’t remember exactly. The time spent apart had been long, that, you were sure of.
You had been apart when quarantine was first implemented, states away while Pedro had been filming for The Mandalorian. The strict rules had made it virtually impossible to see each other, the ones in your state and his. Hours were spent talking, sharing meals, and falling asleep together over the phone and FaceTime. It wasn’t the same, and it didn’t help ease the pain you felt when you were still so far away.
It had been three months since you had last seen him in person. Three months since you smelled him and felt his secure arms as he gave you the best hugs, three months without kissing him or holding him or just being with him. You had wanted to make it work, you made that clear to him. And he had wanted it to, to your greatest relief.
But it was difficult regardless.
“You doing alright?” He asked, his voice soft.
“Yeah, I’m okay,” you managed. “Everything going okay over there?”
“Yeah, yeah, it’s alright,” Pedro said. “I was able to see my dad last night. He was able to come over and we got dinner.”
You beamed; you just wished he could see. “Oh, honey, that’s great. I’m really happy for you. How did it go? You guys make anything?”
“Ah, you know, the typical stuff. It was good though... I needed it.”
“I know,” you said, sitting back against the headrest. “... Pedro?”
“Yes, mi amor?”
Your lip trembled again just as tears fell down your cheeks, and you inhaled heavily. “I just miss you so much.”
“I... I actually wanted to talk to you about that.”
Your heart suddenly thundered in your chest. “Um, okay... I didn’t do anything, did I? You’re not breaking up with me?”
Pedro laughed on the other end, lifting your spirits. “Are you kidding me? No! Honestly, you’ve been so great. More than great, like... Gosh, you know what I mean.”
“Damn, Pedro, you’re making me blush,” you giggled, wiping tears away. “What did you want to talk about?”
“I’m coming home.”
You shot up in your seat, clutching the armrest. “What? Are-are you actually serious?”
“Yeah, I am.”
“Pedro, if you’re just joking with me, I swear-“
“I’m not, I’m not!” Pedro exclaimed, and he sounded genuine. “Really, love, I’m coming back. I’m coming to see you.”
Hand over your beating heart, you pressed your back into the seat. “When?”
“I’m just getting to the airport. I should see you in what, six, seven hours? Don’t come though... just wait at your place.”
“Okay,” you say, blushing and twisting your feet together in pure excitement. “I’ll see you soon, I guess.”
“Sooner that than, mi amor.”
. . . .
Hours ticked by, slower and slower until the clock finally struck 8, the time Pedro was supposed to show up. You had bit your nails raw, the ends of your hair still drying from your shower as you paced the foyer. He would be here any minute, with his sweet brown eyes and flirty grin and goofy disposition.
And suddenly...
The doorbell.
You raced forward, swinging it open so hard you could almost hear the crack of the wood breaking.
Pedro stood there, in his classic Fraggle Rock hoodie and jeans, his hair looking a little mussed, his brown eyes tired. But beautiful, he looked as beautiful as the first day you had met.
You couldn’t even move, couldn’t find the strength to form any words before he was suddenly sweeping towards you, his bags dropping and his arms coming to wrap around you. Breathless, you sank into him with a heavy sob, returning the hug as he moved to cup your head with one hand. You latched your arms around his neck as he released a sob of his own, his knees knocking into your legs as he tried to balance properly. You didn’t care if you fell, not even if it hurt. All you cared about was that Pedro was back in your arms after three long months. You could feel the way he was breathing heavily into your hair, setting your skin on fire.
“Is this real?” He breathed, a hand running up and down your spine.
“Gosh, I hope so,” you whispered before leaning back, taking his face in both of your hands to tug him down for a fierce kiss. He reciprocated immediately, fingers digging into your waist before sliding up to hug you around your neck. You could feel his mustache, the slight stubble on his chin even, rubbing on your own skin. You half-moaned, half-sobbed on his lips, too overcome with everything happening at once. He pulled away just to nuzzle into your neck, kicking the door closed behind him.
“Pedro, your bags,” you laughed, wiping at tears with your free hand.
“Oh!” Pedro exclaimed, quickly breaking away to retrieve his things from the porch. You laughed, hand on your chin as you watched him struggle before taking one of his bags in your hand, lugging it into the foyer. After he had set them down, he stood straight up again, dusting his hands on his jeans. His eyes flickered to yours hesitantly, as if he were shy. You cocked a brow, half-smiling at his strange expression.
“What?” You questioned.
His gaze traveled down to your neck and back up again. “It’s been a long time... I don’t really know what to say.”
You exhaled heavily. “Me either... How are you? How was the flight?”
He shrugged lightly. “The usual. A bit exhausting,” he said with a small eye roll, and his thumb rubbed your cheek. “But I’m better now.”
You blushed, brushing your knuckles against his hand. “Do you- do you want something to drink? Coffee, water?”
A slow smile grew on Pedro’s face, and he leaned forward, taking your hand. “Sure.”
Hand warm in his, you dragged him to the kitchen, letting him free as you dug through your cabinet, fishing out a glass. You had just turned around, nearly bumping into his chest and dropping the glass before his hand wrapped securely around the cup. He smiled widely, brown eyes warm.
“I got it, babe,” he said, taking the glass from your shaking hands and placing it on the counter behind him. His eyes glowed with something curious, something sneaky.
“What are you up to?” You asked, cocking a brow. You hadn’t seen him in three months; you wouldn’t be surprised if he kept you at an arm’s reach for the rest of the day, mouth on yours and hands tangled in your hair.
He stepped forward, making you back up until your lower back brushed the tip of the counter behind you. His hand found the lip of the granite, just resting beside your hips as he moved closer, a smirk on his lips. It had been three months of missing him, of having him this close, and it was sending fireworks up your veins.
“Pedro?” You giggled, drawing your fingers up his forearms. Goosebumps grew under your palms, raising them to grip his triceps. He felt stronger, more muscular than when he had left.
“Hm,” you mumbled. “They’re really putting you to work on that set, aren’t they?”
Something dark flashed in his eyes, and he bent forward, nose brushing against your chin as he nibbled at your skin, making you blush. He seemed hesitant, still shy, as his eyes flickered back to yours as if silently asking permission. Having him so close, his eyes inches from yours, his sweet face and even sweeter soul just within reach, made sudden tears spring to your eyes. He noticed immediately, his brows creasing as he pulled away, letting you free from his embrace against the counter.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Pedro asked, worry laced in his tone. “Are you alright?” His hand came up to your face, gently pushing your hair back behind your ear.
You swallowed hard, moving so you could touch his face, marveling at how he looked at you in pure awe.
“I just... I missed you so much,” you admitted through tears. “And I can’t believe you’re actually here, after all the craziness that’s been going on... This world is so crazy right now, love. I was so worried about not seeing you again and just imagining the rest of the year without you-“
You started to run over your words, shaky hands combing through your hair just before you noticed Pedro going to grab you wrists.
“Hey, hey, calm down, mi amor,” he said softly, turning your face to his. “I’m here, okay?”
“Everything’s so different now,” you sniffled.
“What? This-this isn’t different. We still have each other. I still care about you. I still want to be with you, babe.”
You heart soared. “I love you so much.”
His eyes practically sparkled. “I love you, too.”
Grinning softly, you leaned forward, pulling his face to yours so you could press your lips to his. You felt his shoulders sag, how he practically melted into you, letting out a pleased sigh as you kissed him. Only two seconds later his hands found your back, gently wrapping around your waist until pulling you flush to his chest. His facial hair, slightly ragged from not shaving from a few days, scratched against your chin as he tilted his head, kissing you deeper. When he pulled away, his eyes were soft, his skin flushed a light pink. You smiled widely, running your thumbs over his cheekbones, perfectly happy.
“How long are you here for?” You asked.
A soft kiss on your nose. “As long as you need me.”
Your brows creased. “What? What about shooting?”
“Finished up last week, they won’t need me back for a couple of months... I was actually wondering if...”
“... Yes?”
His fingers gently trailed down to your wrist, thumb spinning in small circles. “If I could crash here for a while? If-if you’ll have me, that is. I don’t want to intrude or anything-”
You answered him by pulling gently on the strings of his hoodie, tugging him forward for a slow, passionate kiss, one that left your legs trembling when he reciprocated.
“So... Is that a yes?” He whispered against your mouth, nipping teasingly at your lower lip.
You winked slyly. “Sure... Why not. I’ve missed you anyway. I guess I can put up with you for a while.”
He rolled his eyes and sighed heavily, drawing away from you. “Come on, let’s go sit down. I want to hear about your day.”
Everytime he had said those words to you in the past three months had been over the phone. So you gladly let him pull you into the living room, plopping down on the couch beside him. You swung you legs over his, shoulder pressing into the back of the couch as you held his hand in yours.
You talked for hours, catching up and sharing the small moments of the day. Pedro was just as sweet, as flirty and kind as he always had been, asking you about your favorite shows and new daily routine and your favorite memories as a kid. At some point, sleep had tugged at the both of you, but the last thing you remembered was a blanket being drawn over your shoulder.
When you came to, and the house was quiet and the world dark and silent outside, you pushed your head up from the pillow. You were back in your bedroom, draped under your comforter and surrounded by pillows. A single lamp was on on the opposite side of the bed, but when you pushed yourself up, Pedro was nowhere to be found.
Panic pricked at your heart, and you shoved the blankets off your legs, making your way down the hall into the kitchen.
“Pedro?” You called softly, peeking around the corner to the living room.
Pedro was stretched out on the couch, tangled under a blanket and lying on his stomach. He was obviously asleep, eyelashes kissing his cheeks as he breathed softly. Seeing him like this, asleep, was one of your favorite things. He was calm, and gentle, not worrying about the events of the day or of the problems affecting his family or you. For mere moments, he was perfectly at peace. And your heart swelled to know he hadn’t left.
Moving slowly, you padded into the living room, coming to kneel beside him on the floor. In the dim light, you pulled back the blanket on Pedro’s face just as he stirred, blinking up at you groggily.
“Hi,” you whispered, unable to keep the smile off your face.
He blinked a few times before realizing it was you, and his pupils dilated even more in the dim light. “Hey, you okay?”
“I’m fine,” you said. “I... I thought you had left.”
His eyebrows creased slightly. “Why would you think that?”
“You weren’t in the bedroom.”
He swallowed hard. “I-I was just... Keeping our boundaries, I guess.”
You leaned back, sudden thankfulness washing over you. “Can I... Can I sleep here, too?” You asked, a shy tone creeping into your voice. “If that’s okay?”
His eyes flickered across your face for mere moments before he nodded, pulling the blanket open. You kissed his temple gently as you curled in beside him, curling your hands into his chest, making sure you were both covered by the blanket.
“Thank you,” you whispered, and felt his cheeks lift in a smile. Head tucked under his chin, one arm over your side, you closed your eyes again. Pedro breathed quietly above you, his heart beat soft against your ear. His hand moved gently up and down your back, fingers pressing into your spine.
“Love?” He said softly.
“Yes?”
“I would never leave you.”

I am incredibly discombobulated today—usual weekend nocturnal shenanigans I guess! Anyway it’s somehow midnight. Gonna try to write up these note on the Classic episode The Day of the Dove in as efficient a manner as possible.
Hmm, a planet with wavy pink Fraggle plants. I like it already.
But where is Spock? Very suspicious.
I really appreciate Kirk giving a little speech to set up the overall question/issue for us. (I know he does this all the time with the Captain’s logs but this is out loud and so… more obviously expository.)
Oh no, it’s our old friends…the Klingons.
I will admit that this ONE TIME, the Klingon is being reasonable. Like, it is reasonable to think that Kirk and the Enterprise attacked his ship, given that his hip WAS attacked, and who else would it be?
Three years of peace between the Klingons and the Federation? That is inclusive of the show so all this tension must technically be “peace” and also implies there was something more like a direct war going on, like, right before Kirk got the captaincy.
Zoolander voice: What is this, a colony of the INVISIBLE?
“We have no devil. But we understand the habits of yours.”
No takers? No takers on the torture? No volunteers to be mercilessly tortured by the Klingons?
Star Trek Beyond could have had Kirk and Chekov bond over being brothers! I mean, to other people.
They’ll kill 100 hostages at the first sign of treachery. He does know there are only 400-some people on the ship right? Maybe you should pace yourself, Kang.
Kirk’s so badass he needs MULTIPLE guns trained on him just to use the phone.
Oh-ho secret message to Spock. Which version of the iPhone will be capable of doing THAT?
The Klingons are “suspended in transit” is an awfully nice way of saying they’re just dematerialized atoms in space. Philosophy major and/or Bones nightmare fuel.
How did Kang not see this coming, by the way? Like, he just says “I’m taking your ship now, me and my 6 men versus your 400-some men, and I’ll do this by simply declaring it to be so. Now let’s beam up to your ship, where I’ll be greatly outnumbered, and there are armed security guards all around me.” Guess he’s been reading The Secret!
WIFE AND SCIENCE OFFICER
Aka the most important part of this whole episode.
Kirk’s face is very ?????? You can have both????
It’s legitimately not even important for her to be the science officer tbqh. Like that is so gratuitous. That’s just in there to drive me insane.
"We're prisoners, somehow, after I demanded to come on the ship, assuming they'd just give it to me without any kind of fight. How DID this happen?”
Federation death camps lol—someone’s been watching Fox News.
I do kind of wonder… is this an actual rumor that goes around the Klingon homeworld or is it something that the alien entity put in her head specifically to make her angrier right now? I mean it really could be either.
I also appreciate this episode for being pretty much the only one to actually attempt to give the Klingons a reason for being as they are. The Romulans… maybe aren’t well-described, but they do have a sort of regalness to them, appropriate for being related to Vulcans, and you can kind of imagine that they are the way they are because they’re Vulcans without the intense self-control. Plus they’re literally only in 2 TOS eps and in the second, the Federation are the aggressors. But the Klingons show up a half-dozen times only to be depicted each time as just like Cartoonishly Bad, aggressive, violent, and selfish for basically no reason. And I mean, some people really are!! But TOS has so much nuance in other places, that it always seemed a little disappointing to me that the Klingons are really just like ‘well we’re just bad and we hate everyone and we really like killing I guess.” At least in this ep there’s a little more added to that: that there is poverty on their world, that they feel aggrieved, that they feel unprotected, that taking and conquering is how they look after themselves…
I think that’s later in the episode though.
He’s detaining them in the LOUNGE lol. With their favorite dishes available to them to eat. Absolutely barbarous conditions.
I can’t believe Chekov is hanging in the elevator with the cool kids. Like, one of these things really isn’t like the others.
Kang is officially sure of himself for someone currently imprisoned in the lounge, that most fearsome of Federation death camps.
Hmm, could the glittery light alien have taken over??
You know what, that's a lot of tasks for Johnson to do all by himself: search the whole ship, fix the engines, and free 400 people.
Sulu would love this: everyone gets a sword!!
“Bridge. I gotta show this to Sulu immediately.”
Klingons have maintained a dueling tradition. That’s interesting. Finally some characterization going on.
Spock is really living up to his logical nature today. Everyone else has gone off the emotional deep end and he’s like “have you considered this completely rational explanation that accounts for the actual, observed facts??”
Whoops Chekov is actually an only child. Scratch that previous Beyond headcanon. (Interesting that his dead brother does really resemble Sam though—killed on a research colony??)
Love that Sulu knows that about him though.
Oh, that’s a pretty schematic picture of the Enterprise. I want that on a t-shirt.
Lol the pan out to the armory, now filled with… swords!!
Do ALL of these men have a fetish for swords? Sulu and fencing, Spock displaying swords in his quarters, and Kirk in his San Francisco apartment, and Scotty salivating over this Scottish blade.
“Klingon units.”
Finally Sulu gets his sword! It’s what he deserves.
Love that the shiny light alien also has a fetish for swords.
Oh no, it’s our old adversary, an alien life force.
What is the alien’s purpose? Um, I’m pretty sure its purpose is to start shit.
“An appropriate choice of terms, Captain.” I don’t even remember what this is referring to but I think it’s pretty clear that Spock is enjoying himself during a crisis again.
Bones, being so dramatic. Were there atrocities? He’s talking about the Klingons as if they were literally hacking off limbs—it’s a few stab wounds here and there, chill.
Oooh, time to behave like military men—strong words. (But I thought it wasn’t the military?? @ S**** P****) (This might not even be my best argument, given the context of this episode, but I’m sticking with it.)
This is like a giant game of capture the flag.
AU that’s just about the Enterprise crew playing capture the flag with the Klingons.
Sulu in the background standing guard with his sword
Damn, turning on Spock with the slurs now!!
Spock was absolutely ready to kill him. Like he would 100% have taken him out with a blow to the head. And he’d been doing such a good job of not feeling the alien’s effects so far! Admittedly, that was a strong provocation though.
Honestly, I really like this scene. It’s uncomfortable and tense and you can really see how the alien is bringing out the worst possible influences of their respective races. And I liked how Spock was definitely full on pre-Reform Vulcan for a minute there. It was a more effective portrayal of what that might have looked like than All Our Yesterdays tbqh.
A result of… stress?
Kirk got himself out of it first. He’s so strong. He knows himself so well, he cannot be outsmarted by any alien.
“We’ve been taught to think in terms other than war.”
“The alien brings out the worst of us—patriotic drumbeating…even race hatred.”
He’s so sad; he can’t imagine thinking like that about Spock :(
Sulu in a Jeffries tube! A man of many talents. It’s okay bb, take credit for turning on the lights.
The alien must have been getting bored. The Klingons must have been doing too well, and the playing field needs to be leveled for maximum shit-stirring.
“Let’s find that alien.” That’s how I ALWAYS feel.
Oh, Kang, you’re so close—“What power supports our battle but thwarts our victory.” So, so close to getting it.
ALIEN DETECTED.
Spock takes his sword, of course.
“Jim.” Obligatory Jim moments hit differently when they’re not so obligatory.
“Jim—stop hitting my protégé. And put that sword down.”
Kirk looks so sad, picking Chekov up to carry him bridal style.
Also in addition to ‘race hatred’ I think we need to add ‘rape-y tendances’ to the bad stuff that the alien is inspiring here.
“A brief surge of racial bigotry. Most distasteful.” Spock winning for understatement of the year.
They're assuming the alien is trying to test out their relative powers but I think it just wants entertainment. I mean, doesn’t it look like a naughty little thing?
Mara’s outfit is… little shorts? Interesting. Usually not my style but she makes it work.
Spock doesn’t even look at Johnson as he falls lol. Another one bites the dust.
“It exists on the hate of others.”
What does this remind me of? Oh, the Vast of Night and the whole “aliens made us do every bad thing ever” conspiracy theory. At least this one makes more sense, in part because it is not quite so overwhelmingly broad!
All hostile attitudes must be eliminated, he says, and there's Mara right behind Kirk giving him a death stare lol.
Kang is so obviously posing. Google Earth, always taking pictures.
Only a few minutes before drifting forever in space becomes inevitable? Good thing Kirk works well under pressure.
“Well… do whatever you can, Scotty. You know the drill.” Doesn’t even bother giving real directions anymore. We’ve been in this scenario before.
“So we drift in space, with only hatred and bloodshed aboard.”
And the 392 people below just get to…live in Enterprise prison, I guess.
Star date: Armageddon. So dramatic!
I’m not even making that up; that’s an actual quote. Can you imagine being an Admiral listening to this?
“Stop the war now.” An actual line, really aired on television.
Spock wants to threaten the wife lol. That's the old pre-Reform Vulcan seeping through. Surak who?
Damn, Kang is cold. “Eh, she gets the concept of being killed in battle.” They’re gonna need marriage counseling after this.
“There is another way. Mutual trust and help.” Yes that’s my hero!!
“No one can guarantee the actions of another.” Can’t remember the context of this entirely anymore, but great line.
The entity is loving this—multi-person choreographed sword fight!!
"Those who hate and fight must stop themselves. otherwise it is not stopped.” Another baller line. Spock has a lot of deep thoughts today. And so does Kirk. And Kang.
Kirk tries to reason with the alien. Nice try.
“Shoo. Shoo, alien. Off the ship, go away.”
Omg that last moment—Kang slapping Kirk’s back way too hard, Spock’s completely ridiculous wide-eyed expression when he does, like some sort of combo of amusement and confusion, and then Sulu just passing on by in the background….
Then the alien just yeets itself into space. And that’s the end!
Always feels weird when there’s no wrap up on the bridge.
Also, what are they going to do with the Klingons? They have no ship. They really did come out of this a lot worse than Kirk and co. No ship, huge casualties—and no one to blame even, but the alien.
I feel like the alien messed up a little in killing so many Klingons. Like, it could have accomplished its purpose, angering the Klingons and turning them on Kirk, by attacking the ship a little less violently—you know they’d react to 5 deaths pretty much the same as 400, and then there would be many more people to fight forever and produce that sweet sweet anger!
Maybe the alien’s powers aren’t strong enough to influence 800 people though. Also it wants equal forces and 800 people wouldn’t fit on the Enterprise, one assumes. So it still makes sense.
That was, of course, an excellent episode. 100% agree with is classic status, even though the main things I remembered going in were the wife + science officer bit, and everyone laughing at the end in a really forced, fake way, in order to make the alien go away.
I thought the Klingons were a lot better/more interesting today than usual. First, I think Kang is a better character, or a better actor maybe, than the others; he has a certain way about him that is… more watchable, more sympathetic. And he’s always saying these really dramatic things that make it seem likely he writes patriotic Klingon war poetry in his off time. Also, including his wife made them seem more… not human obviously, but normal. Not just cardboard cut-out villains. And of course the actual lightly specific motivations I earlier mentioned helped too.
Also, the plotting was very good: it built up slowly but surely over time, so at first the alien’s influence wasn’t that obvious, and then it became more so, and then it became horrifically obvious and extreme. And then you had to re-evaluate earlier moments: was that the alien changing facts in their heads, or a real part of the animosity between humans and Klingons? And it wasn’t always clear, which I appreciated. The tension when the people were at their worst wasn’t overdone, like in that moment with Scotty, Spock, and Kirk—or even in Chekov’s assault on Mara, tbh. The various strategies of the different sides were very entertaining too; there was never a dull moment, and they fit in a lot of straight-up actions and twists into 50 minutes.
The possible threat was truly terrifying, also: stuck in a space ship, forever, unable to die, feeling the worst possible emotions all the time, besieged, angered, despairing, fighting a war that can’t be won, being injured and suffering only to recover and fight again, and it never stops… A perfect nightmare mixture of insanity and violence and pain. And the alien, in encouraging hatred and anger, doesn’t discriminate between sides: they turn on each other just as much as on the Klingons, breeding paranoia and infighting. For eternity.
The episode also felt much more strongly anti-war than I remember tbh. Like it was not subtle. Kirk literally says “stop the war” in so many words. He has a part in his speech where he talks about the possibility of other aliens out there, encouraging other wars. And while I do think “maybe the aliens are making us do it” is a cop out explanation, or would be if it were real, the scenario gave the show a lot of room to say, like, pretty ballsy things: to include “patriotic drum beating” along with “race hatred” in a list of corrupting feelings they were experiencing; to show how the same instincts that lead to warring also lead to sexual assault and the aforementioned ‘race hatred;” to reveal the true horror of an endless war by making the participants unkillable and sticking them in a singular space ship in the middle of nowhere; to imply that the combatants of war gain nothing from it, but outside or third-party entities will pull strings of their own design to profit from the conflict as long as possible; even to make an impassioned plea to camera to stop the endlessness of the conflict. Like I can’t even totally unpack this but it is a lot!
Finally, it was also a great Kirk episode, which of course is my most important factor. He’s smart; he’s strong; he’s so sure of himself and his values that he cannot be manipulated to mindless hatred, he represents the values of the Federation, and the show itself; he treats even his enemies with basic respect and humanity; and ultimately, he saves the day.
Okay I was not efficient in writing this up at all! It is very late!!

sprokets big adventure
what classic would you adapt into a muppet version and why?
hear me out. the muppet of dorian gray. lord henry and basil are both humans. as is dorian . until he wishes his soul into the portrait . upon doing so there is a comedically obvious bolt of lightning (its not storming) and where human dorian was is now a muppet. the portrait remains of a human. neither basil nor lord henry addresses this. dorian seems unaware. none of the muppets really have the vibe to play dorian except miss piggy for some reason. as for why? well i love making things that are confusing
top five original muppet show guests (also in no order)
joel grey
harry belafonte
alice cooper
lena horne
liza minelli
favorite muppet costume/outfit
so piggy and gonzo always have LOOKS but a favorite of mine is always gonna be janice in muppet christmas carol its so cute and good
Tumblr media
your explanation for gonzo loving chickens
if you want the actual answer dave goelz improvised a line in the muppet show where gonzo tells a chicken (not muppet chicken, an actual chicken) that they have nice legs and it just kind of stuck as a character quirk!
which muppet movie do you think has the best original songs/works best as a musical?
so i personally think that any muppet musical would have to be an original one with original songs, however i think that the best muppet soundtracks are emmett otters jugband christmas, the muppet movie, and muppet christmas carol :)
and miss piggy and her motorcycle are glorious

The Great Con-Junction
Tumblr media
For a place like the world-famous Elstree Studios in London, history is made on the regular. Movies like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," "Hot Fuzz," and even "Star Wars" have all been captured to celluloid moving at twenty-four frames per second. However, it was a lesser-known, though no less ambitious film that had eager fans lining up around the block on a mild February morning nearly forty years later. The film I speak of is none other than Jim Henson's 1982 cult-classic "The Dark Crystal." Myself and at least 200 other attendees were gathered for the first official Dark Crystal convention, celebrating both the film and the Netflix series. Taking place at the very studio where the movie was filmed, Thames Con's "The Great Con-Junction," was also the biggest reunion of the original cast and crew since the film's release. Once again, history was being made at Elstree Studios.
Tumblr media
Upon learning of the convention I was filled with both desire and regret. Desire to go, and regret that I most likely wouldn’t be able. I live in Glasgow which is 6.5 hours away from London by car, and I don’t drive. On top of that, I hadn’t any money saved for such an occasion. But through the generosity of several friends, my mother, and my boyfriend willing to drive me there, the impossible was suddenly very tangible. With only twenty days until the convention, I was one of the lucky few able to attend this momentous affair.
It may seem odd that such a niche convention could draw someone from as far away as Glasgow, and in some cases the US and Australia. But if you’ve ever been to a Star Trek or My Little Pony convention, you may have some idea as to the sort of passion we’re dealing with. For many, Dark Crystal isn’t merely a great creative property, it’s life-changing. As a child, Jim Henson’s work left an indelible mark upon my soul. Projects like "Fraggle Rock," "Storyteller," and "The Flintstones," inspired creativity in me and filled me with the desire to one day work for the Jim Henson Company. Sadly, years of adulting did their best to dull that flame to a mere ember. However, after last year’s premiere of "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance," that ember grew into a roiling fire.
For the past month, I’ve been a ball of excited energy leading up to the convention. I’ve immersed myself in all things Jim Henson. Whether it be rewatching the Netflix series for the umpteenth time, revisiting Labyrinth, or reading JM Lee’s YA Dark Crystal novels, it’s been all I could do not to crack up. In the final week leading up to the event, I directed this nervous excitement into creating a cosplay as the Crystal of Truth, wrapped in black chains and metal claws. When the day finally arrived and I found myself waiting in line with other excited fans decked out in purple, or cosplaying as Deet or Rian, I knew I was with my people. The air was abuzz with excitement as we were slowly ushered into the building.
Tumblr media
The event hall at Elstree was decorated with posters of scenes from the movie along with mood lighting. Part of the ticket cost afforded each attendee a beautiful signed print by Brian Froud. A bar at the entrance was selling official Dark Crystal merch including the ThinkGeek Fizzgig puppet only available in the states. Right away I had blown most of my budget, but my new furry friend would agree I made the right choice! I’d been there not two minutes, and already my arms were full of swag. I took this opportunity to get my Fizzgig and a book signed by both Brian and Wendy Froud, who were very generously autographing people’s items for free.
Tumblr media
Usually, conventions leave a bad taste in my mouth as they seem like supremely capitalist ventures. And while there were plenty of things to buy, the Frouds’ generosity set the real tone of the event. Not only were they generous with their autographs, but they were also incredibly generous with their time. It seemed as though every person that talked to them was given an opportunity to gush and share their personal stories. As I told them both how much their work meant to me, they were treating it as though it were the first time they had heard it that day. Brian even took the time to doodle a little Fizzgig and Skeksis for me alongside his whimsical signature. The impression they left me with is that they were both very genuine and down to earth people, and meeting them is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
Tumblr media
One of the things Mr Froud shared with me was that in his experience, people’s reaction to the Dark Crystal is usually always something creative. People go off and make fan art, cosplays, puppets, or even their own artistic endeavours. You could see proof of this all around the room that day. I met a brilliant artist from Seattle named Nori (@noriretherford), who in exchange for doodles from attendees was giving beautiful prints of her fan art. I drew my best skekTek from memory and have the cutest depiction of Seladon, Tavra, and Brea playing as children to show for it. There were cosplays with humbling levels of detail and even the occasional puppets of people’s original characters. All around you, creativity was swirling, and people were passionately sharing their enthusiasm with one another.
Tumblr media
These initial couple of hours were dedicated to meet and greets with the cast, crew, and fellow attendees. Everyone seemed just as interested to listen as they were to share. One attendee remarked to me how she had never before felt more encouraged to speak to strangers than she had at the convention. Even my boyfriend, who is generally shy, was coming out of his shell and joining in the conversations. I was also pleased that the convention was managed well enough that I didn’t spend my entire day waiting in line to meet someone while he was relegated to watching my things. I was actually able to share this experience with him as opposed to relaying it through dreamfasting later. This made meeting the guests less of a thing to check off a list, and more of an experience.
My only real qualm with the structure of the convention was the Skeksis tea which was offered as part of the ticket price. Since I was unaware that the guests would be available all day, I was a bit late to lunch meaning the banquet was completely picked over by the time we had gotten there. No amount of cute creative table displays or impressively crafted Nebrie cake could obscure the fact that we were forced to find our lunch at the McDonalds across the road. Furthermore, I was unaware that the lunch was buffet style, which meant that if someone wanted to be as gluttonous as skekAyuk, it would leave the rest of us hungry. We were not alone in this, as several others were left to look upon the empty tables with dismay. That being said, for a first-time convention, it’s impressive that so little went awry.
Tumblr media
For me, the biggest highlight of the day was getting to actually see the Gelfling puppets along with their respective puppeteers. Both Beccy Henderson and Neil Sterenberg had Deet and Rian with them. I’m not ashamed to admit that I hugged Deet. Being able to see the detail of the puppets and feel the various textures employed by the brilliant fabricators at the Jim Henson Creature Workshop was mindblowing. Not to mention that both Beccy and Neil were just as generous with their time as the Frouds. Though I would have to say the most exciting puppet I met that day has to go to Hup, as Victor Yerrid was actually puppeteering him and speaking directly to attendees in Podling. Hearing Hup say my name and talk to me was overwhelmingly exciting! That man is a brilliant puppeteer.
Tumblr media
Throughout the day there were also several panels with guests from both the TV show and the movie. It was fascinating to listen to each of them tell their stories. Whether it be anecdotes about Jim Henson or tales about trying to navigate hot costumes under studio lights, it was a treasure trove of information. Listening to these stories was a constant reminder of the sheer amount of history present in the room. Each one of these guests had their own incredible careers, and here they all were, ready to share their fantastic stories. Yet despite this being an intimate gathering of a small group of creatives reuniting after 38+ years, it never once felt like it was all about them. You didn’t feel like an interloper or an evesdropper. We were all part of this wonderful experience together.
It was puppeteer Louise Gold’s remarks to the crowd about this that really put into words what we were all thinking. Through stifled tears, she remarked that she had initially come to see all of her old friends, but had found herself equally enriched by meeting the fans. Seeing all of us come together and sharing our stories was as inspiring to her as it was for us. Hearing her impassioned words moved quite a few of us to tears, myself included. She was easily one of my favourite people I met yesterday, and not just because she was so wonderfully extra. Her words spoke the same truth as Brian Froud's- what has resulted from this fandom is something creative. The Dark Crystal hasn’t simply entertained, it has changed lives.
Tumblr media
Of course, like any good convention, it wasn’t just the guests in the spotlight. The cosplay contest allowed for an opportunity for the fans to strut their stuff. Much like the ticket giveaway the organisers had done, they couldn’t decide on just one winner. There was so much goodwill and positivity flowing that honourable mentions were given prizes as well, and with good reason. There were so many incredible costumes that I doubt I could have picked the best of the lot. There were Gelflings, Skeksis, a Hup, and even an urRu! My favourite of the lot was a mother-daughter duo who went as Brea and Kira respectively. But that may just have to do with the fact that I’m a big Brea fan and her costume was incredible!
Tumblr media
Were I to think of any one word to explain how I feel about being able to attend this convention it would be grateful. I left feeling rejuvinated. My boyfriend even commented that I was “glowing.” I wish everyone in the fandom could have the same experience. I’ve seen so many passionate fans online in the last day wishing they could have gone, and I very easily could have been one of them. It’s proof to me that this fandom has more to it than just a few people toiling away in their basements. There is a real desire for these types of events. It’s not hard to imagine people declaring their Gelfling clan like Harry Potter fans might declare themselves Hufflepuffs or Ravenclaws. (I’m totally a Vapran.) If you look online, you can see people’s OCs of both Gelfling and Skeksis. Even I’ve considered putting together my own Gelfling Gathering here in Glasgow. I’m hopeful that this is a sign of things to come, and that we won’t have to wait a thousand trine for the next Great Con-Junction.

Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Ghosts #2
Tumblr media
Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Ghosts #2 Archaia 2020 Written & Illustrated by Jennifer Rostowsky Lettered by Jim Campbell     A young Khmer woman turns to black magic that promises to give the caster wealth, power, and beauty unlike that of any other human. When the spell turns on its caster, she must learn to deal with the consequences of magic, and what it means to be an Ahp.     I really enjoyed this story.  The first one was pretty amazing but this one is out of this world crazy.  I think the fact that a long time ago in a land far away that these two women were so in love to star in this tale.  It is unusual to see these days and to see this handled in such ho hum, see lack of fanfare, way is such a beautiful thing to see.  I like that this the story it’s just a normal everyday tale it lends credence and authenticity to what love looks like for different folks.  I commend Jennifer on the way she’s told this story and how it’s completely engaging, inviting and full of a belief we don’t see every day.     I love, love the way that this is being told.  This guy and his talking dog are extremely delightful catalysts for these tales.  They really do feel like the old man and his dog from Fraggle Rock and considering that Henson is responsible for that as well it doesn’t come as a surprise.  Still, their interactions are what fuels the tales which are brilliantly rendered.  I also really like the life lessons these instill and while I wouldn’t say this is all-ages it is definitely right for those pre and early teen years on up.  The way that we see story & plot develop through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information are presented beautifully.  The character development is utterly phenomenal and we clearly see them for who they are through their actions.  The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing the twists and turns along the way shows how everything works together to create the books ebb & flow.     This has all the hallmarks of a classic horror series but it’s more like a cautionary tale against behaving in certain ways.  Nothing is going to scare you but you’ll see and understand what and why things go the way they do for the main character.  It is a strong and powerful way to tell these kinds of stories while subconsciously reminding the reader about the bad behaviour we may or may not see in what we do.     The interiors here are really rather lovely.  There is a romanticism to the work that gives it more of a fairytale quality to it.  I think that the linework we see as well as how the varying weights are utilised make for a really interesting visual representation.  The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a very nice, talented eye for storytelling.  The colour work is amazing.  There are patterns in clothing that come just from colour and that alone is a marvel to see.  The hues and tones within the colours that are utilised in the shading, highlights and shadow work really shows a nice eye for how colour works.      Great story and a great book that in my humble opinion represents Jim Henson in some wonderful ways.  I can easily see this fitting into some of their worlds and being brought to life in that really unique way.
