Anyone who still puts any sort of stock in GDP per capita figures needs to cop on tbh. It's not a good indication of actual quality of life and people can live in a "high" GDP per capita country but have a lower quality of life than someone in a country with a lower GDP per capita because of income inequality and high costs.

If you printed it out on your standard 8.5x11 piece of paper at 500 words per sheet you'd get about 108 sheets if u round up.

I wonder a lot of the time what makes some places functional and what makes some places dysfunctional, despite similar population demographics/population sizes in general. Visiting/living in a lot of cities in my life (LA to Boston to some in Europe) I still don't really have even anywhere to start. It feels like things that work in some places don't in others, like sometimes things are completely unshackled from cause and effect.

This is a very pensive paragraph about the fact that "Americans are genuinely stupid" has become one of my leading hypotheses for a lot of things that go wrong here.

On the other hand, sometimes places are just cursed.
