Only Friends Episode 9 | Post-coital Embrace

I need to talk about the post-coital moment between Ray and Sand. Because to me, that was the part that spoke volumes about Ray's feelings, and it was beautifully performed by Khaotung.

Ray looks pretty wrecked euphoric. This is the good kind of high. The kind that comes from feeling fulfilled in the company of someone who loves and cherishes every part of you. I think Ray's realisation of his feelings made every act of physical intimacy with Sand that much more heady. He's basking in the intensity of his feelings right now, and Sand is right there to hold him gently together as he does.

When he turns to kiss Sand tenderly on the cheek, it reads as appreciation, as gratitude, as wonderment, a 'thank you for loving me, for seeing me, for being good to me' and 'thank you for making me realise that I do love you back'. This did feel like Ray's non-verbal confession.

There's also something really open and unguarded about Ray here. He feels unburdened, unheeded - just Ray. And perhaps this is the version of himself he wants to be when he's with Sand.
