Friendly reminder that Gwyn gave Azriel an out. He didn't take it.

He could have said "Happy Solstice" back to her and bam, the chapter would have ended there. But no, he decided to stay and banter with her.

And another friendly reminder that Gwyn only said that because she knew Azriel well enough to assume that he wanted to be alone. She didn't mind (HER WORDS) sharing the space with him.

Contrast this to:

Nobody gave Azriel an out. He chose to make one himself (by drawing sticks with Cassian). If Elain was really his mate (and I'm not buying this at all lol), wouldn't he be subconsciously drawn to her and want to spend more time with her? Like... how Azriel "found himself at the library beneath the House of Wind" when he originally intended to go to the Market Square, just to give Gwyn a necklace that made him "consciously eras[e] the slight smile it brought to his face" at the thought of how "Gwyn's teal eyes might light upon seeing the necklace"?

Throw in the fact that during his bonus scene he had just recently met Gwyn again after two years and didn't consider her a friend yet (implied with "but"), and he still didn't mind being in her presence. That was also after Rhys tore into him for lusting after Elain, and he was in a piss-poor mood. But his encounter with Gwyn managed to calm him down. She put him in a better mood.

I don't see how anyone can walk away from ACOSF and Azriel's bonus chapter without coming to the conclusion that Gwynriel is endgame. I genuinely don't. The ending of the chapter seemed to seal Elriel's fate in dust and cobwebs -- at least for me. He started the chapter thinking of Elain, and ended it thinking of Gwyn. Even without the bonus chapter, ACOSF had enough Gwynriel moments that I still shipped them before reading Azriel's bonus chapter.

I understand not wanting your party members to walk into a lake and drown themselves but also Laudna has the fuckin WORST bedside manner lol. Yes, your much-needed long rest was just interrupted in a creepy abandoned town where you know weird charm-shit happened and the LAST thing you need right now is for anyone to lose focus. But also "Can you not wait? You can wait 5 minutes." talking to someone who has waited months and doesn't know if their loved one is even ALIVE and has confessed to you how much he misses them and how much it hurts and they could be outside breathing alive right now—

And on the surface, it looks like Chet is enabling a bad decision when he says "You probably heard Dorian. He's probably outside." and yeahh, okay, maybe he is a little bit. But right after that he's about to protest with something about Orym and it's like yeah. ORYM said he heard something. When has there been a time when ORYM heard something, and it wasn't real? How many times has Orym heard something and it's saved our asses? Before Chet is being hit with his own need to check out the lake, he's giving Orym the benefit of the doubt. And while he is an enabler by nature, he's keeping his voice soft rather than his usual, over-the-top "let's fuck around and find out" energy that he brings to dangerous situations like this.

You can't have everyone in the group treating a dilemma with the same amount of sympathy and care. What makes the BH so fascinating to watch is the variation in responses and different ways they interact with each other. You need a balance of someone who will take the cold, unyielding stance against something that is so obviously a trap, and someone that is aware of the risks but willing to speak up for that person and humor them when they're so clearly struggling.

I have a lot of feelings about Laudna and Chetney's instinctual responses and I think both stances are fascinating and they've both shattered my heart to pieces

#chet is very observant with orym and everyone else tbh #and i feel like he always takes care when it counts #im very soft for the father-son bond there #and i feel like when laudna and orym agree and clash flips on a dime sooo often #its very interesting. and laudna i feel is a very decisive person. when she feels some way about something shes very firm on it #and i think orym is too. but most times shes much quicker to be loud and vocal and insistent about it than he is #its fun to watch her oppose him and he have to be like 'ok i guess i have to push this'#and half the time they are ON THE SAME PAGE but its either like one line off or they just totally misunderstanding each other #orym is my boy i spin him in my brain and anyone who interacts with him makes me spin even faster #critical role #c3e86 #orym of the air ashari #chetney pock o'pea #laudna #bells hells #not even done with the ep yet but taking advantage of the fact that i can pause and make posts like this lol #during the live its like i save long posts for the end IF i can remember what i wanted to say #if i do it during i do not process the show and miss everything

The sad part about the whole situation was that the fighter was fine. Any normal person might be a little shaken up after getting jumped in an empty parking lot but it was simply another day for him. He knew that it was long over due. He wasn't an idiot he knew how the way that the life he lived worked. He was constantly pushing boundaries and towing the line, admittedly he had always enjoyed the rush of it.

Rant about Harry Potter and JK Rowling, stick with me here

Ok, so, I hate JK Rowling. I feel like that's a given, right? Like, she's a transphobic homophobic bigot who hides behind feminism and routinely denies massive parts of the holocaust, and I despise her in ways that I don't think words can even express. I can't stand her, but y'know what I also can't stand?

When someone implies that my mother, who is one of the most supportive people I know, and a massive part of the founding, organization, and actions of a local group made specifically to fight Moms for Liberty and school boards in our area trying to harm trans and queer people, is transphobic because she likes Harry Potter

Wanna know why my mom likes Harry Potter? Because when she discovered the series at 12 years old, she quite literally lived in a cupboard under the stairs and was in an abusive household. The magic of the wizarding world or whatever was her escape, it's the reason she's still alive, and by extension, the reason I was ever alive.

But, sometimes, not even often, when I try to express even the most minimal amount of appreciation of that, someone says to me "but isn't JK Rowling transphobic? Why would you support someone like that? Are you transphobic?"

Which pisses me off beyond belief, as one might imagine

In this situation, "separate the art from the artist" isn't exactly a good phrase to use, given the fact that the goblins or whatever run the bank are Jewish stereotypes and the house elves generally being happy to work under their masters being a straight rip from the whole happy slave myth, and those are very very important things to recognize and understand, among others

I feel like it's a lot closer to "separate the hundreds if not thousands of lives she's helped from the hundreds if not thousands of lives she's ruined", or even better, understand that the good she's indirectly done for people makes all the bad that much more horrid

My mother is the closest thing to a hero in this entire world and I will not stand to hear one more person accuse her of being transphobic purely because she thinks fondly of a book series that saved her life. I will not stand for people saying she's just as bad as a holocaust denier because she owns every book in the series. I will not stand for anyone going entirely against their point of not judging a group as if it's monolithic by saying all Harry Potter fans are bad people, including my mother. And, once again, it's not often at all that this happens, but it happens and I'm pissed about it and needed to rant

Anyways rant over JK Rowling sucks don't believe a single thing she says and don't support her unless you wanna support someone actively trying to make the existence of queer people illegal

really genuinely worried at how many chronically ill / whatever people are like "house md is evil but he'd actually diagnose me. btw i've never watched house"

i promise you that he wouldn't. he doesn't take cases unless they're interesting; most of us are not "interesting" - he significantly prefers patients on the verge of death . if he did take your case he would be quite willing to run experimental treatments on you that violate your directives and those of your medical proxies for his own amusement (in the episode i watched most recently, he uses a racial slur to distract a teen patient's parents long enough to get the teen into a procedure they didn't consent to). if you die, he won't care. if your treatment disables you, he won't care or feel guilty (in another episode i watched recently, they fried a patient's entire long-term memory on purpose and then discovered that they had initially misdiagnosed him and that this was not a necessary treatment).

like we're all out here joking. some of the best episodes of house are ones where he's faced with patients who are willing to bite back, where house's nastiness becomes one of his less effective tools and the opportunity for patients to exert agency. but this is very RARE. while house is a brilliant diagnostician, IF he is interested. he is not, actually, a good doctor!

Y'all villainizing Marlene almost cartoonishly and not understanding that the show isn't about binaries is just as bad as those saying Joel took away Ellie's agency.

Joel did good and Ellie shouldn't think that it is her responsibility to die for the whole damn world. But my god the Fireflies aren't the evil mastermind out to get the protagonists! They are a rebel group living in a shitty world under military. And they think a cure at the expense of a life is fair for the good for this world. Not one time in the show I saw this as a venture to further their power grab.

Now we can say that this way of thinking is a personal failure on Marlene's part as this makes her go back on her promise to Anna. That it betrays the trust Anna had in her friend. We can also say that the end cannot justify the means. That even if Ellie's death saves the current human population and frees those who are to come from the threat of cordyceps...it cannot ever bear the weight of what Ellie was, is and would be to those who love her.

But my god I can't believe that instead of an in depth discussion, people are making this a Joel vs Marlene thing! They are arguing about vaccines ( on a zombie show!) and making fun of the doctors 😂 what, you all saw a guy as the protagonist and couldn't wait to tear into the woman ( finally without guilt!) who stands on the opposite end of the line? 🤣🤣

This story is about love and the destructiveness of love. So forgive me if you all sit there and tell me that had there been another immune person, Joel wouldn't have personally tracked them down and delivered them for Marlene to kill, so that Ellie would be safe. How then are you all trying to fit Joel in the role of a "hero"?

The Fireflies don't know Ellie. They care about Ellie as much as they care about their young recruits ( that is not much). You can make posts about whether the Fireflies themselves have lost their way while fighting Fedra. Because from what I gathered, Fedra doesn't care for its people...they are meats to rule over. And it seems like Fireflies care only about their cause, if they send a 17 year old in a sealed off building and don't even care to do a proper sweep. They also had this 17 year old build bombs.

So yeah- the Fireflies even as a rebellion aren't exempt from criticism. But you all are truly out there trying to turn this series into a good vs bad debate. As if you all in their world wouldn't readily kill someone for even the possibility of a cure.

something about reading a book in one sitting just makes it hit different than in multiple sittings. anyways feeling very normal about the novel sea of tranquility.

Tumblr used to be so fun now you guys just block and complain people for every small thing like I truly love your work but u always ask for interaction and then even though u get it, you complain that it’s not enough (while you ignore the MANY reblogs you have) or just don’t even bother replying and it gets ignored.
