i have such a thing for age gaps...i blame society. also, i’m only including ghost, price, and alejandro because the other men are too young imo. ik some of their ages are debatable, so in my mind, ghost is at least 30.

since i cant stop thinking about things i care about and also i cant shut up ever im gonna say my bit about the "well of COURSE they destroyed everything shiekah after botw bc it nearly killed the entire country DUH do you not understand basic worldbuilding??" type of comment i had directed at me (mostly on twitter to no ones surprise and almost exactly worded like this)

--how would you even destroy it, the only thing you can actually damage with anything are guardians and nano-guardians, anything else cant even get scratched, hell you cant even climb the darn things, are you seriously trying to tell me they somehow completely pulverized not just the shrines but titans (divine beasts), the shrine of life and the pillars holding the guardians in storage around hyrule castle and the dome beneath it (whereever that went lol) when it was built to and DID last over 10 000 years ... and if you did somehow find a way to dismantle literally all of it why would you not ... use its parts for something else and also research it (lets be real here, purahs new towers are just the sheikah towers but more impractical and would by all means not need all of the material from all the missing stuff and the purahpad is just ... literally the shiekah stone but looking more like the switch and also worse bc its got almost none of the functions the shiekah stone had) they were so integrated into botws landscape removing them and their chambers would have been so much effort better spent in other places and just so unnecessary (think of the shrines at the twin mountains, removing all of that would be so dangerous and difficult to do), removing the pillars and the dome under the castle would endanger it collapsing no? there also would have needed to be a giant mechanism down there to make the pillars rise up, why would you go and try to destroy that instead of focusing on rebuilding the most important infrastrucutre

(on a sidenote, yes there are holes to the underground in the place of some shrines but its by far not all of them .. .even so there at the very least should be some rubble of them lying about at the bottom plus in most of their places its just plain earth, or sometimes even a cave locked by some puzzle which is.... so weird)

really the only explanation would be that it all just ... disappeared after zelda sealed ganon, which wouldnt only be hella unsatisfying as an answer but also again pose the problem that i would have caused the castle to collapse considering how shiekah tech was so integrated into it... unless it turned to earth somehow ... which would explain that but still be as satisfying of an explanation as 'it was all just a dream uwu' additionally, the zonau stuff under the castle wasnt even that far down so it must have intersected with the shiekah stuff, like the pillars or the dome?? but no its all just zonau ruins now wahoo

if literally all traces were gone and totk was a paralel to botw but with zonau instead of shiekah OK, they still called it a sequel tho, they still talk about the events of botw but in a way that sounds like it was just another lost legend, the tapestry exists as well, and there are a few old guardian parts on top of the hateno institute (still feels like an oversight considering how cleanly everything else was wiped off the map), plus purahs towers and the purahpad are clearly based off of it, so it cant really be some time fuckery either, some things still remain; it just doesnt add up and its frustrating as hell .. ... especially if you were like me completely thrilled and intrigued to learn more about the ancient shiekah, what WAS that dome under the castle for?? what WAS ancient energy really and why was it found in these specific places only?? did they know about ganondorf?? if they built stuff down there shouldnt they have inevitably come across the old tunnels?? the monks literally talk to link in botw why would they withhold that info, what reason could they have?

--by far my biggest annoyance with that excuse is that ... if you are so afraid of tech you dont fully understand being taken over by the bad guy again to the point you destroy not just the titans you basically worshipped as divine protectors but also immovable shrines that literally couldnt do shit to harm you even if they were pumped up to the brim with malice/miasma after they have already become non threatening/non functional anyway... HOW could you just go and fully trust and personally play around with new tech that LITERALLY rained from the sky out of nowhere, from a group of people no one knows shit about (like at least the shiekah were still existing and had a small part of recorded history) and never cared either until now that they are suddendly everywhere, even if it cant get corrupted somehow (kinda disproven by the spirit temple) how the hell would anyone know that?? if anything this would be a reason to be MORE afraid of it

even the ancient king that persecuted the shiekah bc he was afraid of their tech when they invented it didnt order them to destroy it, just bury it, despite them of all people knowing the best of how to completely destroy it??? and zelda doesnt seem like the type that would order old history and relics to be destroyed liek that??

it would have been such a golden opportunity to show that hey, the ancient shiekah based their tech on that of the zonau, they found the mines and tech and reasearched it to built their own from it, strucutres that show they were down here building the shrines from underground, titan prototypes, you cant do anything with it, its old and broken, but its there, environmental storytelling and all that

the shrine of life especially pisses me off bc thats like .. ok it was kinda not the best maybe but it still saved links goddamn life, even if it all became useless for some reason at least leave it there as a sign of respect, if there needs to be a cave have it be half collapsed after the cataclysm or something wheres the problem

(also idk if im the only one with that but in botws true ending when zelda says that vah ruta, i think, has stopped working it seemed like a good setup for more? and that she wanted to investigate that in the sense of ah shoot i want it to keep working tho and not in the sense of hell yeah lets smash it to pieces i know this is theory territory now but it seemed like it somewhat confirmed that the titans need a pilots strong spirit to work since they are not connected to the ancient energy network and the spirits of the champions passed on at the end ... the idea that ancient energy was spirit energy either gained from luminous stones or directly spirits is so neat, and i loved that idea of hey the reason why all of the energy went out all of the sudden is bc ganondorf is breaking free after having been kept in a stasis to use either his malice or his strong spirit to fuel it all has never left my mind since i first read about it bc its such a good setup for intrigue, like oh heck the ancient shiekah werent so coolio and 100% perfectly good either, maybe they knew about gans 'future' or history and hey why not trick him or sth into being sealed against his will so that problem is out the way and whoop hes pretty much an infinite source of energy nice lets use that for our research and not tell anyone oh no we created a monster (calamity gan) l guess we are gonna use the tech we fuel with his own life against him lol, OR you could have connceted it to the zonau maybe doing the sealing first and the shiekah discovering him later and being like oh neat an endlessly rich powersource we arent gonan tell anyone about weehoo

it would have tied into the ancient shiekah stuff, explained why it doesnt work well anymore, give a reason to explore the underground and discover it all, give a reason to why it was kept a secret bc no one wanted to admit yeah we made this monster ourselves whoops, give ganondorf a reason to be this angry and make it all more nuanced bc yeah ok maybe the zonau knew about gan and in their effort to prevent it caused it instead by sealing him before he became a problem and it all started a domino effect of disasters leading into all this mess that now poor zelda and link gotta solve

im not saiyng this is the better version or that i am better but again you can literally do so much with the setup for it all and what totk ended up doing with it feels so ... not even underused but straight up backwards treading you had it right on front of you INFINITE POTENTIAL AAARGH)

theres only so much fun gameplay and fantastic music can save and man can you imagine what could have been if the story got the same polish as the gameplay and music ;__;

This Week in BL - Things are Very Mixed

May 2023 Wk 1

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Step By Step (Thai Tues WeTV & Gaga) ep 3 of 10 (MDL still says 12, but Gaga still says 10) - The subs are janky on YT, so you might want to watch this on Gaga. This is such a good show, it just feels so much more authentic to an office environment and first job then anything else I’ve seen in BL. Now that might be because it has western source material, or it might be because it is actually kind of old-fashioned (it’s been years since I worked as an office grunt). While the authenticity may be a little triggering for some, I love how much tension it adds to the leads’ dynamic and the quality of the narrative. I also really love the brothers’ relationship, now that we got to see them on screen together for a bit. Walk of shame was great! Oh look, character development, how novel. This is what Boss & Babe should have been. Not sold on the sides tho it’s nice to see a faen fatal as the main character in a dynamic for a change. 

La Pluie (Sat iQIYI) ep 2 of 10 - This one is really grabbing me by the throat. I love the starter concepts, what a fantastic twist on a meet cute not to mention soulmates. I hope we spend more time with the vet and his coworkers, they seem awesome. And another surprise, the guy we think is being set up to be the brother’s love interest is now clearly interested in the wrong brother. I love the trope subversions going on with this show! 

Our Skyy 2 (The Eclipse) eps 5-6 - FirstKhao are just ridiculously cute as a couple. Honestly? Aye just seems like he would be a lot of work as a lover. I’m not as wild about the premise of this installment, with the film clips and stuff (as I was of NlMG’s installment). And then, the singing. Oh well, you can’t have everything. I gotta say, First is a great crier, although I don’t think this story warranted his tears. In the end? My feelings on this installment were mixed, the movie storyline didn’t grab me and the birthday storyline seems a touch mean spirited, but I do think it adds substantially to the original Eclipse rather than feeling superfluous or slapdash like many of the other Our Skyys. So I’m going to go with 8/10 

Future (Thai Sun YouTube & Gaga) ep 6fin - More of the same (which I like) but I’m glad it ended. Didn’t need to get dragged out. Such drama over nothing. In the end? This is just a soft sweet cotton candy fluff piece about a younger boy who pursues an older boy and then manufactures silly gay drama. Nothing wrong with that. But I don’t think this style of BL really appeals to a very large market share. Will I rewatch it? Sure. Will anyone else? Nope. 7/10 RECOMMENDED WITH RESERVATIONS.    

Pastsenger (Thai Weds Gaga) ep 9 of 12 eps - And now the amnesia trope. I’m not a fan. This is such a pulp. At least it ends next week? Groan, no 3 more eps.  

A Boss and a Babe (Fri YouTube) ep 10 of 12 - one thing I realize I like about this main couple’s dynamic is that the seme/uke seems earned, where it didn’t in Echante. I don’t have much else to say except it’s crazy when a narrative betrays its characters like this and why to poor ForceBook keep having to deal with it? 

The Promise (Thai Weds YT & WeTV) ep 7 of 10 - Honestly, who wears an all white outfit to play around with coffee beans in the countryside? I LOVE the faen fatal, he’s so good, courageous, honest, and morally sound. He even gives his rival fair warning. Nan should totally go out with him. I made awwww noises over the faen fatal! I NEVER do that. I guess Phu was right all along? Nan won’t date a friend. Ultimate friend zone. Well shit. This show. Ouch. 

House of Stars (Thai Mon iQIYI) ep 1 of ?? - There seems a slight horror element which I do not like and it’s also confusingly like Melrose Place or something. Everyone is sleeping with, or wants to be sleeping with everyone else. It’s kinda hilarious to watch something where all the actors are supposed to be good actors but it’s a pulp so they just really aren’t. So far my main issue is I can’t keep them all straight in my head (pun intended). 

Tin Tam Jai (Tues Gaga) ep 10fin - There is very little I enjoyed about this show. The entirely forgotten side dishes gave us 5 min of excellent high heat and then vanished, but otherwise this show sucked in the wrong way. It’s forgettable and I intend to do just that. 5/10  

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Our Dining Table AKA Bokura no Shokutaku (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 5 of 10 - The way these two are very quietly yet thoroughly falling in love with each other is executed with such grace and subtlety that only Japan could have handed this out. It’s not even “falling” it’s more like sliding gradually into love. 

Love Mate (Korea Thurs Viki) eps 1-2 of 8 - Launched very much openly gay so that’s fun. Also very much bubble too, so no one around them cares. So: Seo is a player jaded older uke (fun character type we don’t see often) and his seme is a romantic if arrogant weirdo. Can you see my hands clapping? Combative trope activation! Absurdity. How fun. Also workplace harassment but hayho that’s BL for ya. (Also a nonBL Kdrama specialty.) ALSO whole office in on seme-stalker’s side? All in all, it’s odd and questionable, but I’m into it. Why am I like this? 

Happy Merry Ending (Korea Thurs Gaga) eps 3-4 of 8 - OK I’m not super into the main couple but I love all of the surrounding characters. The overly protective best friend with a crush is giving bad advice but it’s understandable and he’s super hot so I forgive him. And the idol character is a wonderful addition, he is my baby. Also, evil ex is v evil. 

Vian the series (Vietnam YT ) - I thought this was gonna be Tiktok only but apparently it’s showing up on YT too. It’s cute! My cat boyfriend (which is more common that it should be) and this seems to be Vietnam’s installment (we got Thailand’s last year). The boy playing the cat is the prettiest human being on the planet. Fight me. No fight him, get scratched. Serious tho. Holy hairballs. Look I don’t really like vertical content but I am watching this for him. Meow, indeed. 

The Day I Loved You (Vietnam YouTube) eps 2-3 of ? - BL Express’s first impressions mirror mine. Niks is so flipping cute. Rich kid is so into him, so is bestie. So much gay macho posturing. So much bi fear and het shame. But also it’s killer to get a femme main characters who isn’t being mocked. Dancing trope continues (better than singing together). It is kinda Heartstopper goes Pinoy BL. Honestly, I prefer kids a little drawings to terrible sound effects. This is better than it or we have any right to expect. 

Naked Dinner AKA Zenra Meshi (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 4 of 12 - There is a lot I like about this drama, except the weird central conceit of the naked dining. But the romance part is cute, if a tad simplistic. 

My Story (Pinoy Sat YouTube) ep 4 of 10 - chukchuk went missing and so did my interest in this show. I’m DNFing this one. 

Dancing together, the baby sub-trope of 2023. (The Day I Love You) 

It’s Airing But ...

Love Syndrome (Thai Sat WeTV) stopped at ep 2 of 12 - I’m just not into any aspect of it (except Lee Long Shi) - saving to binge if the end is solid.

Venus in the Sky (Sat YouTube) pilot/tester?) 0 of 10 - not entirely sure what’s up with this one distribution-wise, but the pilot was classic university-set pulp. I hope it happens because the leads are cute with good chemsitry and I thought it was fun. However, this pilot holds together as its own little short too.

Stormy Honeymoon (Vietnam) - meh

In Case You Missed It

Actors Bas Suradej (2 Moons etc...) and Copter Panuwat (so much BL) have left Starhunter. So Copter and Kimmon will part ways as an on-screen pair (RIP KimCop). Their upcoming show Boy Never Smiles will still air, but will likely be their last together. (source) 

Restart After Come Back Home (highly recommended), Athlete, Capture Lover, Tkumi-kun, His the movie (recommended) and also a bunch of the dark stuff like Forbidden Love and Shortest Distance are all leaving Gagaoolala soon. So watch ‘em while you can. A few are also on Viki, but many will be difficult to get hold of without Gaga. 

I finally finished the second season of The Reason Why He Fell in Love with Me (Japan Gaga) and gave it a 4/10. I just don’t like or recommend any of the installments of this franchise, but if I had to pick, it’s season one. 

Make a Wish finished at 6 eps. Stars Fluke Natouch (OhmFluke UWMA etc...) & Judo (The Miracle Of Teddy Bear) in medical-fantasy about a doctor who sees ghosts and a deity who resides in a Bodhi tree that earns merits whenever he fulfills a wish. Based on a y-novel by Sammon (Manner of Death, Triage). I will watch it if I get hold of it, but for now... who knows how it went?

chapter twenty : johnny suh

It had been a rather rough day today, you were texting Sicheng earlier that day and only talked about Hendery without actually mentioning him and the attempt of subtlety had you more annoyed at him whilst both Haechan and Mark who were usually present at parties like this had ditched to attend a double date. Chenle visiting his friends instead.  

“Hey,” A girl with pretty long hair put herself in front of you, staring at you with concern in her eyes, “You alright? Do you feel sick?” 

“Uh, I’m okay,” You say, even though everything about your face reveals that nothing is okay. 

“Min,” She hisses to another girl clearly enjoying her vodka with a crazy straw, “Where’s Johnny?” 

“Why?” Min asks, unbothered and only a little concerned by your nonchalant face. 

“I’m gonna bring her to his room but I want to ask first.” 

“You’ve never made an effort before.” 

“Well he ripped into me last time, you should know! You were there-” 

“Okay, okay, Yuqi you don’t need to yell, I’m drunk not blind.” 

Yuqi curses to herself, promising to never let Minnie touch another vodka and cranberry ever again. Not while she’s there to look after her, anyways. 

“Just use it, I’ll go find him,” Minnie decides before wandering off with her empty glass and Yuqi wants to trust her, she does but she finds you need her more than Johnny does right now so she leads you to his room and sits you on his bed, happy to find the older man had cleaned his room. 

Yuqi sits you on the bed, checking your face for anything in your gaze before she kneels in front of you, “I’m gonna get you some water, okay? It’ll make you feel better.” 

You nod, though you feel a little better just being somewhere quiet and watch as Yuqi hurries outside to retrieve you some water. You miss the scent on her clothes as soon as she leaves and you sit silently. 

Patiently. 

Until you’re no longer patient anymore. You figure she must have got caught up, or in the ‘worst’ case scenario forgot about you. 

You stand, looking around at the room you’re in, figuring the best way to let time pass by is to have a little nosy around. It’s a clean boy room, with cool neon lights framing a bit of his bed and the faintest smell of cologne. 

Narrowing your eyes you peek curiously through his array of photos lined up against each other, showcasing his life and his personality. 

In fact, one of his friends looks exactly like Moon Taeil, strangely enough. 

“Uh- hi?” A deep voice frightens you so much that you look even more guilty, caught in the act and looking way too much like a deer in headlights to be innocent. 

“I’m not stealing anything!” 

The man laughs, “I didn’t think you were. You lost?” 

“Uh no- I’m uh- waiting for Yuqi-” 

He curses, “Fucking Yuqi, always bringing strays into my room-” 

Your eyebrows raise to which he laughs good naturedly, “Nothing to take offence over, really. At least you’re not fucking her.” 

You giggle, “I’m not. She’s getting me a water, and I- I think you’re the one that Min had to tell I was coming here-” 

Johnny snorts, “Yeah, right. I’m Johnny by the way.” 

“Y/N.” 

“So, “ Johnny sighs, laying down next to you with his arms supporting his neck, “Why are you here in the quiet instead of the rager downstairs?” 

“Honestly, I can’t be bothered,” You admit, your chin held by the back of your hand. Johnny finds it endearing, how comfortable you’re getting with him. While sober. It’s kind of nice…the change. 

Johnny chuckles, “I hope you’re bothered enough to tell me. I need some new gossip.” 

“Hmm,” You pretend to think hard, “It depends, are you going to tell people?” 

“Nah,” Johnny scoffs, “Even if I did…they’re all drunk and terrible conversationalists. I mean- you’ve met Minnie.” 

You start your story with a short cough to clear your throat and it’s an unveiling filled with every boy that has made your life. Your friends. Even Minnie and Yuqi to which he was glad to add his own comments about. 

You appreciate the way his eyes widen, and how he lets out a dramatic inhale of breath at every climax of your stories. He even scoots closer to you, in love with your storytelling and the complete gossip he’s getting from you right this minute. 

Minnie, who’s behind the door listening, appreciates it just as much. She wants to keep you. Just so she can see what happens next. 

“And Hendery? Are you still in love with him?” 

You shrug, “Yeah- but like I can’t be that in love with him if I like other people, right?” 

“Not necessarily, consider this...you’re a single girl, in a new town, living her life and learning about the world and it just so happens that you end up liking some of the people you connect with,” Johnny advises, looking very ‘shrink’ as he watches the information process in your brain. 

“But I don’t know if what I feel for Hendery is love…still love. He even said I should move on.” 

“So? Are you moving on? And if so, are you moving on for the right reasons?” 

“Right reasons?” 

“Although I love a revenge plot, it won’t work for you in this case. It’s just pettiness.” 

“Has anyone told you how hot you are?” Your voice diverges into another topic. Since you’ve been thinking about how sexy he is for the past minute… 

“Plenty of times.. It doesn’t hurt to hear it again though and usually not when I’m saying something they should listen to….” 

“Well then you’re hot,” You confess. Minnie has to roll her eyes as the conversation becomes a little too streaming site clickbait-esque and makes a quick exit, jogging to tell Yuqi the plan of adopting you. 

Johnny grins, “Thanks.” 

You beam back, “You’re welcome.” 

You press a chaste kiss to his lips in gratitude. For the conversation and the advice. Resisting the urge to kiss him again and again.

ok here’s all my Thoughts about mq s3 and why it’s probably the weakest season so far.

tl;dr It just feels like they wrote themselves into a corner with how s2 ended and then didn’t know how to continue on from there. And it’s disappointing! It’s back to how it was in s1 where the only real strong character arc is Ian and Poppy’s, and the rest of the characters are just kinda… there to do funny stuff. And it’s not the worst thing in the world and they kiiiinda pull it together a little in the finale, but it’s disappointing because we know they can do good character arcs for all the characters simultaneously, because they did that in s2! Also fuck NFTs

let’s compliment sandwich this so good things first:

The GrimPop storyline was good! Easily the strongest aspect of the season, tho I feel like Ian Winger-speeching himself out of the conflict was maybe a bit too easy? It was a good speech, I liked it, it fits their weird toxic codependent relationship well, but I would have liked to see him doing more for Poppy. Ah well, still good.

The bad is uhhh a lot. I don’t even know where to begin.

Actually let’s start with the metaverse/NFT shit, because it was shit and really soured me on the first half of the season. I get why these topics were included, it was a hot issue when they were writing the season, but it sucks how they were implemented. First off, it’s aged like milk, what with the multiple crypto crashes and NFTs kinda disappearing out of the collective consiousness (thank christ). Second, the fact that there’s no talk of the negative aspects of NFTs. Atrocious, especially concerning Rachel, who, being ostensibly the leftist of the group, should really at the very least have brought up the negative impact on the environment that NFTs/crypto has. Unfortunately, it does make sense why this happened. Ubisoft was one of the first game companies to use NFTs in their games, and Rob Mcelhenney owns one of those ugly fucking apes (I hope for his sake he’s sold it already), so he’s clearly invested in this shit. Obviously neither was gonna shittalk NFTs when they have such a big monetary stake in them. Hugely disappointing, but not surprising.

Now the characters... let’s start with Dana, because her “character development” was easily the most baffling to me. Like. Who is this? Where did this mini-Ian come from? This isn’t who Dana was. She had confidence, sure, but not Ian levels of delusional confidence. And like, what was the point of making her so much like Ian? How did that serve her character? Most she did was act like a kind of mediator between Ian and Poppy, but what did it do for her? The last ep kinda wrangles this into her being fed up with them and starting her own thing, but like, she was happy to hang out with Ian for most of the season. I dunno, I can kinda see what they were going for, but it doesn’t feel like there was a proper build-up to that final episode.

Let’s go to everyone’s favourite tumblr sexyman, Brad. Again, the last episode blatantly states his “arc” (working his way up to being in power again), but like. All the stuff inbetween doesn’t feel like it really adds up to anything. I mean, what did him being the janitor really... do. He acts like he’s up to something, but then he isn’t, and by ep 3 he’s already just doing HOMIE stuff again. I think it could have been so much more fun if he’d actually used his position as a janitor to weasel his way back into monetization. Like, digging up dirt on people and stuff. And again the build-up to the finale wasn’t really there. Oh, he wants a challenge now? He never talked about that. Where did that come from? Why not seed that more? Also, would have liked for his eating disorder to be addressed more. It’s so rare to see men with eating disorders on tv, it could’ve been something special. Maybe next season.

Rachel... I’m highly skeptical of her suddenly being “dumb”. Like sure, she was always shown to be a little airheaded, but it feels like they really turned it up to 11 and like... for what? It reminds me too much of how Britta was treated in later seasons of Community, and that was shitty then and is shitty now. It’s just wild to me that they’d have this whole arc in s2 about her finding her passion, and then they just throw it away. She could’ve been the new writer instead of the new HOMIE! Also, if she’s so dumb, how can she be made the new HOMIE at all. That’s a high fucking position, and you expect me to believe they just gave that to some rando ex-tester? I know MQ isn’t realistic, but I have my limits. And then they kinda lampshade that by having Brad be like “oh I engineered this” but that just feels lazy. Like my brother in christ you put her in this storyline, don’t act like it all meant nothing now. Also I know capitalism is a hell of a drug and I love me a corruption arc but could we for once have a leftist character on tv who like. Sticks to their guns and isn’t a massive hypocrite. Please.

THE LACK OF REAL STORYLINE BETWEEN BRAD AND JO. Hello he went to jail for her??? Hello?? Can we address this? Even a little? Maybe in the ep called TO CATCH A MOUSE?? It wasn’t even a mouse but you named it To Catch A Mouse and then you don’t have some sort of conversation between the mouse and the shark hello? Do I have to do everything myself around here??

Also, C.W. @kaitcake1289​ already wrote a good post on this but I’d just like to reiterate what a disappointment it is that his death seemingly has zero impact on anyone. And it could have been such a good way to tie all the characters together, which I think was sorely needed with how divided they were between MQ and GrimPop. The grief they would all feel from losing the studio’s weirdo grandpa could have been such a nice overarching theme. And it could all impact them in different ways and drive their arcs this season! Just a missed opportunity, and frankly a weird way to treat the death of one of the major characters. Even Pierce’s death in Community was more impactful, and he left because there was major beef between the actor and the showrunner.

I’m a bit hmm about the idea of Dana/Jo/Brad in their own studio, bc I just don’t think splitting the characters up like this worked out this season, but we’ll see. I hope they have an actual plan this time lmao.

Okay other end of the compliment sandwich uhhhhh. I think David’s arc was decent. It was nice to see him get along with Jo and to see him stand up for himself. Um. The Christmas ep was very good. Sarian was another banger backstory ep. In general there were loads of jokes I liked! I’m just disappointed with how the characters that weren’t Ian or Poppy were treated.

Now, I feel like I should add the caveat that I’m kinda straitlaced and certainly not as much of a schemer as Jamil is. On the other hand, I did actually have a normal childhood, so… Who knows where I would’ve ended up in his shoes.

But even just seeing the constant worrying and planning and prepping in the Scalding Sands event, which was my first proper introduction to him, was very relatable. I am a planner, through and through, thinking of what’s coming next. Sure, I’d like to think I’m slightly less neurotic, but you’ll have to ask someone else than me about how true that actually is.

And then there was the overblot, and just… Yeah. Like, I totally got it why the constant holding back would get to him. Personally, I would absolutely hate something like that, not being recognized and not being allowed to compete fully and show my all. (I mean yeah there’s more to it, especially with the jp version, but this angle is what resonated with me.)

Also on a less conscious level, for a few years now my husband has been dealing with a chronic illness that limits him quite a bit. A lot of the running of the household is left to me by necessity, as well as managing husband’s things too, and just worrying about him. And like, I can’t help but see the parallels here (which, in hindsight sure are very obvious, even if it took me a while to see them). And I definitely sometimes also dream of just going away just by myself, not having to worry about anyone else but myself.

Also like, with the snarky post-overblot Jamil, it is very much possible he is sometimes saying things similar to what I might be thinking, but choosing to hold back. Because I too sometimes find myself exasperated with people who just don’t get it or who are more chaos than order.

Just, I do generally prefer trying to be nice about it instead.

Also like, the way Jamil tends to think he has to be the one doing things, and believes he’ll be the one who can get it done? Yeah I can definitely see echoes of that in myself too. Both in a healthy self-confidence way and in an unhealthy “gotta keep everything in my hands” / get involved with everything way (definitely something I’m working on). Because for some reason there’s a part of me that thinks I could fix basically everything - or that I have to be the one doing so. Totally a sensible mindset and all.

Which could also lead to talking about hyper-independence, which, uhh, again a bit of a mood. Tho honestly I’m not sure how many good examples of the characters actually relying on others we have in this game anyway so… (Alright Diasomnia and the Shrouds and Vil & Rook seem to be more or less decent about this, at least.)

It’s just, there’s a lot reflected here, some things more clearly than others, but with Jamil its just really feels easy for me to get the whys of what he does. Like I can’t pretend I can truly put myself in his shoes, considering his particular brand of traumatic upbringing and the way it’s warped his way of seeing the world (those with the power and those without, aka masters and servants), but there is just a lot that resonates.

Graphics Update & Derplander's face: A Research

or My Shallow Attempt to Make Sense Why That DT Derplander's Face Look So Oddly Different. For Science.

(Ok I know the benchmark has been out for more than a week and a lot has been said about it, but I was busy and only had time to mess around with it recently. Tho actually no I didn't have time and I really should sleep rather than spend my remaining braincells mulling over freaking fictional character's face. But pesky part of my brain would keep bothering me about it otherwise. So let me try putting my finger on it)

On last Live Letter broadcast they open with benchmark trailer. I thought, "Oh nice. Since I also play a Derplander I can just watch their trailer to see the graphic update on his fac---"

This Derplander was so confused and as Derplander main I was left deeply concerned.

What the heck happened?? Is it the update? Is it the new hair? Hair change can change his face so much? Why he look so off? Whhhyyyyyyyy-------

Benchmark downloaded, I embarked to find the truth *insert dramatic bgm here*

First thing in my mind, well we see that in livestream, of course streaming quality would made it look bad. Hence I start with running the benchmark right away with default character setting. The result, now I have better image quality, I can clearly see his skin texture etc and he does looks better, but still so different than what I used to. Oh dear am I doomed with this graphic update.... Well let's see how he fare in character creator next. I put in the usual Derplander/Ardbert face setting: Hyur, Midlander, medium build, Face type #5 or #7.... Hmm wait they touch up Face#7?

Yep, Face#7 isn't simply 'Face#5-with-stubble-slapped-on' anymore. There's plenty of contouring going on now. It's like make up, tho irl people use it to look flawless, here they use it to make him more flawed lol. Frown lines, dark and bright smudges to increase the rugged appearance. That highlight on his forehead almost distractingly so. It sure make his brow bones look like they jut out a lot more. Maybe that's why his forehead look so bright and prominent in that trailer? But all in all they do give the face more dimension and suitably older without changing the face model itself, which is smart. Other than contouring, they only change the eye shape a bit with sharper corner. Oh and thicker eyebrows, for some reason...

Alright, that cover the face type. Moving on with the rest of his face: Eye#1, Nose#1, Lip#1. No big change with them, at least none that I can see. Next, color: eyes blue, no lip coloring. Done!

The result... is still the Derplander that I know and familiar with. Older and more rugged, yes. But that's him alright.

WAIIIIT,,,, everyone else complain that their character look off in Character Creator but look alright in benchmark cutscene, why I'm the opposite?? I think he look okay in CC but look different in cutscene. Wth happened here?

Still scratching my head, I throw him into benchmark and...

Oh. Oooh, I see now.. Apparently, they didn't use that setting anymore...

I made wrong assumption that they use Derplander usual character setting as default WoL like in previous benchmarks. Then further assumed the change I saw was chiefly because of graphic update. But as you can see, for default they use different nose and jaw. Add those to the change with face type I mentioned above. It's not that the DT trailer Derplander's face feel different. It is different face.

Naaah, I already staring at his face for so long only to reach such anticlimactic conclusion. Let's stare some more! *sunkcostfallacy*

Well, ignoring the new hairstyle and its floating sideburns (kek), now they use jaw#4 and nose#5, I think? And tho it can't be seen clearly in that gif quality, they also change his eye color. Before I thought it's just because of lighting, but they really change them to green hue rather than his previous blue (you got Mako-juiced bro?). I think I understand why they made those change tho. When paired with his old face, that new hairstyle can make his lower face look strangely short/squished (which was my concern when they unveil that hair in cg trailer. Even in real life that kind of hairstyle could mess with head balance). Hence the change to wider, longer jaw. And to balance that jaw, bigger nose. Dunno what with his eye tho.

It's not very noticeable but there's one more change they made, however it's one I completely onboard with: His skin color. After giving his CG counterpart a tan (hooray!), finally they also give his in-game model a (veeeeerrry sliiight) tan (still HOORAAY!). I've been saying for years that he look too pale. WoL supposedly running around under the sun all the time, why in tarnation he was still as pale as milk. This time, though I only eyeballed it, from various comparison pic I think I can say with some confidence they had moved quite a few step down that skintone table:

I would prefer they also take a step to the right (which is the skintone that I give to my own WoL, and even with that I still often think mine's too pale. But to change it I need to pay for another fanta, so I left him be), but hey baby step. At least he's more strawberry milk now rather than just milk.

Anyway, others might not think he look that different from before. But maybe since I played with him for thousand and thousand of hours, even a slight difference can cause uncomfortable sense of wrongness. This is also the case for numerous players who complained that their WoLs looks off, I guess. Though their case certainly isn't a dumb character setting mistake like mine, that graphic update sure can change character's vibe. Fortunately after scrutinizing it for some time, I think I can live with it? At least for most part..

The update change lighting and texture across the board, and maybe some modeling too? For characters, one of most visible overhaul is their skin. In that skin, well, look even more like skin, for better or worse. In face type#5 /#7 that Derplander use, his laugh lines and sunken cheek are fairly discernible now.

Same chara setting, very similar angle and lighting, across different builds. With the new lighting shadow falls more naturally, in effect giving a rounder, less dramatic impression. But more than that, those visible facial lines along with further detailed eye wrinkles make him seem a looot older. While the guy in the left might go "I'm going on an adventure!", the man in right look tired of all worldly affairs..

That said, I don't mind it that much. I want my WoL to look older with time, so I'm okay with this. Players who also use this face type but don't want their WoL to suddenly turn into middle aged man might feel different, however. Not to mention the more realistic facial lines could push it towards uncanny valley. Will need some time to get used to it, that's for sure.

But one graphic update quirk that I'm less enthusiastic with is: eyeline. I wonder, it seems there's something going on with how this new lighting interact with eye area, in that when eye rim fall under shadow of something the eyeliner immediately goes wild:

See his left eye? Nothing else change here, just his hair. But when his eye fall under shadow of sidebangs, bam. Thick eyeliner make its glorious appearance and suddenly he look super evil (Tho to be fair this shot is hardly flattering and most WoLs I saw look highly menacing there. It's just those dark rims brought him an extra malm). Maybe this is why many Viera players complained about weird eyelines? Thankfully in other lighting/ non-closeup those eyeliners seems to go away. In other scenes all version of him looks okay enough.

So TL:DR I made mistake assuming the odd difference I saw was because graphic update, while in reality it's because they use different face setting altogether. I think I'm going to be fine just using Derplander's old setting going forward as thankfully the update didn't change him too badly. Imo for most part I think the new graphic looks superb even.

But yeah that eyeliner man. I hope they can tell it to chill down a bit. I'm looking forward to the further adjustment they said they'll do. Hopefully Derplander can retain his fairly nice guy, slightly derpy look that we know and love, and less looking like a guy who's ready to start his villain origin story.

I remember you posting about Hérault's "Theory of Ambition" and was curious specifically about the parts regarding his general thoughts towards women. I was wondering which type of 18th century sexism Hérault had especially since you mentioned he was weird about “feminine” traits in men as well. Thanks!

Dhfngmg I'd say it's a standard (?) 18th century sexism. The book is written by a libertine man to other men who share similar interests in life. Hérault assumes that his writer is not just a man of a specific social standing, but one who likes womanizing, hedonism, but also books and ~intellectual pursuits. In truth, the whole "Theory of Ambition" is about how to bullshit your way through life and make people like & respect you. It has a bit of tongue-in-cheek, but also cynical and opportunistic view of life. In other words, it fits nicely into what we know about Hérault.

In that sense, sexism could def be worse. There are no tips on how to get women (I suppose it's assumed that the target audience knows how to do that on their own), but some metaphors clearly show that Hérault assumes his reader to be a hoe libertine who regularly has affairs. We know this because he sometimes uses seduction metaphors when talking about other things. For example, if I recall correctly, how you should always try to see the full picture of things in order to enjoy them and not fixate on small details, just like "you don't fixate on small details on a beautiful woman, which would prevent you from enjoying her beauty". Or when he advises the reader to relax "with the help if a beautiful woman or in some similar way" (doesn't explain what that might be tho). Stuff like that.

There is very little about women themselves. There are a few lines about female vanity or how they want to be flattered, which is a pretty standard 18c speech.

I did facepalm at the male and female brains comment. But even that tells us more about 18c than Hérault, because he also adds the then-accepted ideas about physical bodies (like the womb being able to nurture but not to create new things - which was a popular idea in the 18c).

And then, yes, we also have Hérault compare and contrast men to "women and feminine men", but he sadly doesn't clarify what "feminine men" are (which means his audience knew very well and didn't need an explanation). It's probably the most interesting line in the whole book, but I am not sure what he meant by that. Especially if rumours about Hérault's own sexual practices are true (he clearly sees himself as a man, even if it's true that he fucked men, too). So, not sure how to interpret who "feminine men" are. Is it something about behaviour? Men who are receiving partners during sex? Not sure. (If anyone has a better idea, please let us know!)

All in all, Hérault's writing reflect 18c very well, and typical sexism that went with it. To his credit, he doesn't express any extreme sexist views (by 18c standards at least). He does come off as a cynic and an opportunist, and definitely one of those men who would bang anything that moves. This is sexist in that he sees all women as being basically the same (and, well, good for one thing), but also weirdly saves the text from added sexism since he doesn't go into details over how a woman should be to be considered beautiful or worthy of attention (it's implied that they all are). But any mention of women is brief. The book is supposed to be an ~intellectual manual and women have nothing to do with that, amirite?

So yeah... Not great, but there is worse stuff in 18c. I'd say Hérault is pretty standard on the 18c sexism scale. To his credit, he sees women as a source of fun times, and assumes that they see men like this, too (he doesn't view them as potential spouses or mothers because he doesn't seem interested in that, so a bit of a double standard is avoided). Like I said, I've seen worse in 18c. But I've def seen better.

I gotta kinda vent/rant about this...And yes I will be mentioning Solomon in this. So you have been warned.

Won't lie, I dislike seeing Asmo drink a lot and becoming like this...I love him to bits. He's my everything and I just want him happy and doing what he loves. But I sadly have a line I don't like crossed, and that's people drinking a lot and getting drunk, especially around me.

I know this is just part of Asmo's character, hell even Lucifer indulges a little(okay a lot) on drinking too much until he's just a blabbering love fool desperate for MC's love and attention. But even that side of Lucifer, I don't like much...

I mean when Luci said he loved me while drunk...It triggered me, and made me really upset. because I had someone do same to me in the past but that love to me ended up not being genuine in the end...

As stated before, I don't like it because of personal bad experiences...But guess I'll add more to my reasons...I don't like dealing with people who are drunk, and get too emotional too from it, because it honestly puts me on edge and all...Like some can be total drunk sweethearts yeah, but others...Like Solomon for example from that one time in NB...can come off so unsettling, hurtful, scary and controlling.

Like I don't like this side to Asmo much...I won't deny it, but I'll take this any day than dealing with what I had to deal with from Solomon again. Like that moment with Solomon triggered me, lol, and I don't want to deal with that again...

Then there's more to say, when it comes to Asmo...I'm gonna make some guesses here and all. But here's what I just thought of...

Asmo seems to drink more if the option is there, when he starts to feel self conscious of himself, and possibly of his relationship with MC. (as shown after he increased his drinking after he thought Mammon was flirting with MC) If he feels things aren't going his way or is fearful of possible hurt, rejection or all coming soon. Then he'll resort to drinking to run away from the feelings and all. What better way to numb the pain or ignore your feelings than drinking right?

Well...sadly its not the answer obviously, and I do appreciate we get the options in the devilgram here shown, to tell Asmo he's drinking too much. Or he's had enough, etc. Like that's love to me, to be there to take care of your dear one, when you know they've clearly reached their limit or went beyond it, and to be there to stop them and take care of them.

I can't blame Asmo for going to just lengths when he starts to feel those negative emotions though. I don't drink alcohol, will never will for clear reasons. But I don't deny I do resort to drinking more coffee than I should, when I start to feel too upset and all. Does it do anything to help? No. But I like to fool myself I guess into thinking its comforting me, when in reality I know I'm just hurting myself more than helping myself... (honestly shout out to Asmo for telling me i'm drinking too much coffee and he's been growing concern...been trying to learn to cut it down now.)

...I gotta talk about Solomon again, lol, its just bothering me...

I'm just thinking about that night he and Asmo made a pact together. He knew Asmo wasn't okay, and was drinking too much. Yet instead of showing care and concern over him. He just was first annoyed by Asmo just seeking out some comfort and someone to listen to him vent/rant. But then started to have interest in Asmo after he learned Asmo was Lucifer's brother...and well...we know what happens after that...

I just hate it...Asmo deserved better...Deserved someone who showed much concern and love to him when he was getting in that state or found like that. Thankfully, MC, if you choose it that is, can be that person finally Asmo deserves in his life. I'm grateful for that from the writers at least...

There's more I'm sure I want to talk about but lost my train of thoughts. So stopping here. lol

i think i like the new title cards? i'll have to see how they look on a screenshot wiv a bit more contrast.

Anyhoot, i did promise to do a couple behind-the-scenes type episodes while i was on break, and that didn't happen because stuff, but at least i got one out.

i still don't quite get why this level did as well as it did. Maybe it's an algorithm thing, like if something gets enough momentum, it'll just sustain that for a bit on its own? i mean, i think it's a good level, it just doesn't seem like it should be all that hook-y for anyone who wasn't already looking for what it's selling?

i talk about how ugly the logic is in this episode, and it is pretty ugly; but a lot of that is from trying to add systems in post-hoc, and then having to kludge workarounds and failsafes in when they rubbed wrong against existing stuff. i feel like if i were to do everything wiv a clear intent from the beginning, it would all be a lot smoother. i'm gonna wind up doing that when this gets to be a project-project, but i feel like this is solid as proof-of-concept that it works. Once a solid template is down, tho', it'll be a lot easier to just work in palette swaps of materials and decos for each new story mode area.

One thing i have been noodling, and i haven't come up wiv a good answer to, is changing elevations. Like, wiv the Savannah, the Canyons, and the Metropolis in particular you've got areas that are clearly underground, and ones that are clearly above ground, right? It'd be nice to represent that in the train ride, but i'm not entirely certain how to get that to work right. Like, i get how to do scrolling along the Y axis, and clearly the X axis is sorted, but making it look like the train is moving, like, up a slope? i suppose i could make emitted sections that are, like double or triple height, and raise the train slowly on the pistons. i think i'd need to have a good sit down wiv the idea, work it out in create mode by itself, before trying to patch it into the template. But time is never on my side.

At any rate, this level worked out better than i expected, especially for it being such a kludgy mess; and if i hadn't done this one, i wouldn't have wound up making the flag level, and i'm really proud of that one.

Little overview of the Library of Ruina Mods I've tried and beat...

E.G.O Malkuth: Pretty insane actually, implementing the mechanics of Malkuth Breakdown into an RPG combat is pretty wild. Having randomized combat dice and then later the inability to cancel your actions is pretty extreme, but the fight is balanced enough that a late-game team can handle it without too much difficulty. The pages are interesting too, synergizing well with Malkuth while also adding a few mechanics from her Lobotomy counterpart. I'd say 8/10 because it's a bit long. Apparently, this is meant to be the first of a series that will go for all patron librarians, so I'm curious to see where the next go

Thorn workshop: well balanced that one. The "Thorn" mechanics is interesting. It's a reverse build: YOU gain stacks, and the enemy takes damage when they hit you. This is enough of a difference to make it interesting tho. First, it makes mass attacks VERY dangerous to use, because you will take damage for every character hit. It also requires you to not focus on a single target, as if the other can buff their thorn counter too long, you'll likely take too much damage later. 8/10 too, because while mechanically it was well-rounded, it was a pretty standard battle all things considered.

Librarian of Death: Very dramatic battle, with a nice reward (bad end angela becomes playable), and the battle has a nasty trick. In the first phase, you'll only be able to use one librarian, so you'll go for "Lone Fixer" passive or something of the sort, but then in the second Phase, Angela joins you, screwing you over... The mechanic here is about stopping Dark Angela from regaining light, which will debuff her. 9/10, because I really liked Angela confronting what she could have become. I wonder if there is a similar mod for Roland.

Myo E.G.O : Okay, that one is narratively sound but mechanically silly. Myo come back once more, and challenge the library alone, gaining her E.G.O, which is a "death by a thousand cut" build with "the myongest" passives built in. Instead of infinity dice, she gets two 99 initiative dice per turn and the power boost. She got many cards that can add attack dice by consuming charges, and a very powerful attack that is clearly her version of "vertical split". I had to pull Gorilla Yesod + Librarian of Death to defeat her, and by a hair breath. The reward is insane tho, because of her passive stack with the Myongest, meaning you can have someone hitting with +10 power for at least 2 die, likely 3... I'd give it 7/10, I feel this is too insane and unbalanced, but love the concept and the story.

E.G.O Philip : This one is an alt timeline where Philip didn't become the crying children (there's actually another with the same premise). It's interesting to see Philip explored in a more positive light. Mechanically this mod also has a few interesting concepts: Philip will select 1 dice from your librarians, and using a combat card on these dice will cause you 3 burns. That's a cool concept, altering the properties of your cards depending on which die you use. But I feel it's not explored to its fullest, and 3 burns can be ignored if you reliably win the clashes against Philip... Which I did thanks to E.G.O Myo (yeah I have no regret). 6/10, Maybe a bit more interactions with the dice stuff would have been cool. Still a good mod.

E.G.O Walter : I gotta admit that Walter wasn't a character I expected to see come back with an E.G.O, but why not. His story is about realizing that he has nothing left and so he should do things for himself and to assert his existence or something... He bumps his defensive abilities VERY high, doubled with a buff that gives him 90% damage reductions. But he lose a stack of these every time one of his block dice lose, and after that, he got weakened defense for a few turns. Now, that one I didn't fight fair and square: I used the Netzach strategy to make green boy untargetable, then clashed JUST enough to break his buff, and then kept hitting him 3 times. The result is he could do nothing and I wilted him down... OVER 3 minutes, because he had a fuckton of HP. How is anyone supposed to win that one without bullshit? I give this one 5/10, because the numeric values of this fight are truly unbalanced...

Overall these were fun. Really liked them, eager to see others. I have to move forward on the Da'at mod & finish the Pinkie first.

The Results for the Most Disliked Apex Characters

Hello again! Here is part two of the results from the survey y'all did. The percentages are gonna be a lil wonky because not everyone answered this question (it wasn't required because I know not everyone has characters that they actively lol), but still! I think the results were very interesting here, along with the trends that each legend went through as the survey progressed.

I should also preface this with saying that if any of these characters are your faves, that's okay! This is no way intended to be a dig on anyone who really likes these characters. It's just whom a lot of people voted for in terms of the characters they dislike the most.

So! Let us begin!

Perhaps to no one's surprise given the results of the previous question, our number one most disliked character- with a whopping 99 votes (53.2% of 186)- is none other than...

Caustic!

Throughout the ENTIRE duration of the survey, not once did Caustic lose his position as the most disliked character. Congrats on the win, Caustic!

Next up, for our second most disliked character, we have a guy who once was considered one of the most beloved Apex characters. With 47 votes (25.3% out of 186), this placement goes to...

Mirage!

Part of me wants to be surprised, but honestly, I understand the sentiment. He's been the head of- or at least involved in- pretty much every single bit of lore since the game launched. I think it's clear here that everyone would rather see someone else in the spotlight for a change, myself included! Even if he is one of my personal favorites lmao.

Coming up in third place, we have a character who is honestly more surprising than Mirage. With 44 votes (23.7% of 186), we have...

Fuse!

I imagine his high ranking (in terms of how many people dislike him) can be attributed to Mad Maggie's second place spot as most liked character. Sorry, Fuse! She's the real top dog around here! #MaggieSweep

Even tho I'm personally not a fan of Wattson, I'm honestly surprised to see so many people also dislike her. I assume it has something to do with how Respawn has handled her lore and character, but that's a different topic for a different post!

Alright! Now for the least disliked characters! For this section I'm just going to list them off normally, since there's not much to add on other than the fact that people clearly barely dislike these next characters!

The number one least hated character (3 votes): Rampart!

it's really funny

I feel like it could happen canonically, though hopefully years down the line rather than anytime soon

they were once so close as kids/teens but something happened and it led to bitterness and pain for decades that maybe can't ever be fully healed but can be remade into something new which has the potential to be sweet

But on the other hand

I think Darius' found family relationship with Eber & Hunter (and also Raine & Eda but not as close) is a billion times more important to his character and more compelling to me as a fan than dalador could ever be to the point I don't really care for it in comparison

it'd probably be plain unhealthy to even attempt dating for years given the amount of bitterness they had festering for decades

both Darius and Alador have the far more important task of fatherhood coming up (newly for Darius but Alador has been failing at it for years cuz of his neglect from his own abuse)

it's unfair to Em, Ed, and Amity for Alador to immediately hop into a new romantic relationship after all his years of neglect. Also Em & Ed weren't even around for the falling out between Alador and Odalia so they don't have that extra layer of understanding/acceptance that Amity does

it's unfair to Hunter too, like I imagine he'd unintentionally take that as a sign he's not actually wanted around if Darius was focused on a new relationship, and Hunter deserves all of Darius' attention

while Alador did ultimately choose the right side in the end, he actively helped make the rebellion more difficult all the way up until the end which almost got everyone Darius loves killed and that's uh, probably gonna be an issue for a while on top of the decades of bitterness. Add on he was the last to see the kids & now everyone's extra pissed at him. Like if Eda doesn't kill him Darius might himself

we don't know what caused their falling out and it could be extremely justified, so the lack of knowing for sure makes me a bit iffy

I feel like they're kinda fundamentally incompatible on bigger moral issues, the ways they approach magic, and personal ideologies. This isn't unchangeable but idk, I'm thinking about how Dana talked about Darius as a char and wonder how well that would mesh with Alador for a long term romantic situation

I know it's not really popular but after OTWAT I think daraeda is a way more interesting dynamic if I'm gonna ship Darius at all (tho under specific circumstances i.e. it's Raeda & Darius is very casually involved cuz I don't really see him as the type to settle down himself & Raeda is the OTP they're getting married it's non-negotiable it is happening in canon I am manifesting it... but anyway he occasionally goes on dates with them and such but for the most part he's doing his own thing which includes being Hunter's dad & Eber's bestie/brother & just his own personal time cuz he's a man that highly values his me time & I love that for him)

I still have mixed feelings on Alador after how he was acting in King's Tide (like dude... You're the adult be more mature? Also don't threaten a clearly abused child with sending him back to his abuser???? The fuck you were abused too dude you should have more compassion in such a situation. His moments with Amity were sweet but also I'm still mad they didn't go get the twins. All in all he's not off to a great start here)

I was vehemently opposed to it prior to COTH so I'm still not fully convinced

dalador being funny is the main reason I enjoy it which isn't a great reason imo lmao

out of the ships I think will happen/are canon, easily the one I care the least about by a wide margin

“I didn’t realize-” Zan wasn’t sure if he should continue talking about this.

Wryn looked down a little to meet Zan’s eyes, and there was more depth there than he’d ever seen before. “We are gaining familiarity. It takes time.”

It seemed to be the closest Wryn could come to saying that they were becoming friends. Secrets and memories could be shared at a later date.

Erin brushed past the both of them without saying anything else and neither he nor Wryn tried to stop her. She was more of a mystery than Wryn sometimes. Zan didn’t really fear for his safety if he inadvertently asked Wryn something uncomfortable. But Erin? She was a knife even just talking about a new case or where they were going to sleep. And she clearly felt no fear in stepping across Wryn’s boundaries if she wanted to know something.

"What is wrong with you? Are you so angry to be chosen for the mission that will save our land?" I was already wishing myself back at home, where I could fight something seen, not hidden beneath a tracker's cloak and bow. Here we were, not even fifteen minutes into our journey and we had since only exchanged angry words. At least, I had given him some. He had been careful not to actually speak with any sort of disrespectful tone to his voice. My cheeks crimsoned as I thought of the reproof Alfdan would have bestowed upon me.

shrug (city story)

Moss gestures to the the back of the car. “Help me grab the boxes from the back.”

Jet peers into the trunk when Moss opens it, still not really curious but more irritated as to why nobody is explaining anything. “What is this?”

“Parts, supplies, motor oil, tools,” the girl adds, her own arms full of spiral-bound notebooks. “An acquaintance’s business went under and they’ve fled the city, so before officials come to inspect and seize the property, we’re cleaning it out and distributing their remaining supplies. They’ll be used and the government won’t be the wiser.”

“Won’t they know someone stole them?” Jet takes up a box and walks with the girl towards the garage.

She shrugs as best she can with so much in her arms. “These are the books,” she nods at her load, “and besides, they care more about the property than possessions. What are they gonna do? There are no cameras and nobody around there is going to talk.”

clumsy (sleepy stash)

the scent is very strong even before you remove the stopper. once it’s out, you can see that the blue changes color as you shift it in the light. when you bring it up to your nose, the smell is intoxicating. you had intended to merely sniff it and safe it for later. after all, the small instructional note the gnome gave you with the vial says “drink when you are most thirsty” but here, standing in the middle of a long stretch of road and an empty knapsack over your shoulders, it seems like the appropriate time now.

you tip the contents into your mouth, wondering if it’ll really be enough to quench your thirst, but as soon as it meets your tongue, your whole body is flooded with a shivery sensation. everything shakes, your head dips down and you take a deep breathe after swallowing. when you recover yourself, you find that the ache in your right knee - you were clumsy yesterday and had a disagreement with a rock - has completely gone.

your eyesight is somehow more clear. you are no longer thirsty. your stomach is sated. you hike up your trousers a bit around your calves and see that all the scratches - from your violent discussion with a bramble path three days ago - have disappeared. you are whole and healthy and well.

pack (city story)

He sits up and stills, then stands back up again, unable to force his fear back. Rune is asleep on the couch but she’s not just napping. Her left arm is placed on her chest, and two of the fingers are in a splint. There’s a mottled scrape on her lower cheek and down her jaw, the kind from sliding harshly across pavement. Jet trails his eyes over to where Moss is now cleaning out a similar scrap along her right shin, the skin mottled with bruising.

“It’s not fine,” Jet says softly, and it’s true in multiple ways he doesn’t want to think about.

A hand grips his shoulder. Shadow smiles tentatively at him before bringing an ice pack over to Moss, who gestures for him to hold it against the worst of the bruises. It’s not fine. Rune is not terribly injured, and she’s here, so Jet assumes that she arrived her on her own. Maybe they look ugly, but her wounds are superficial. She will be fine.

“I can think of at least six reasons why you should come,” Yarrow says with his feet planted wide, hands on his hips.

Jet pulls the damp rag Shadow just flung at him off his face, forcibly suppressing the urge to throw something much heavier back at him. “Yeah? Tell me.”

“You barely leave the garage unless you’re itching for a fight, you need to spend more time with your friends not spent in silence, you also need fresh air, I always end up buying extra snacks so you can help carry them, if I tell Rune that you denied my request for help she will scold you, and if you stick around, Moss will make you help clean the place up.” Yarrow ticked each reason off on his fingers before grinning at Jet.

“How did you possibly have a full six reasons ready to tell me?” Jet tossed away the rag.

The grass is hard, breaking, brown. It bows at my feet and does not bother to get back up. Some things are lacking and it’s not just my sense of ease. There should be more red in the sky but the body lacks blood to leak.

nick cut (bringing back the crowd favorite)

“I didn’t land that many hits.” One hand comes up to tilt his face toward [Rune] so she can inspect the bruise which is no doubt forming on his left cheekbone. “And I definitely didn’t draw any blood.”

Jet forces himself to stay still while her fingers travel upward to trace what could still be a sticky cut along his hairline. Sure enough, when she draws her hand back there’s blood on her fingertips. “You didn’t,” he acknowledges.

Rune drops her bag onto the ground and opens it again, gesturing to the chair beside her. “Sit down.”

“It’s fine,” Jet says, habit kicking it. He’s said it to Shadow, to Moss, and to Copper countless time. He doesn’t even think about it.

“You’re bleeding, dumbass,” Rune sighs.
