Just finished a 18000+ letter fic that involves Bumble being held captive by the cogs after angering the Chairman too much, which I am only showing to a select few friends because I'm shy like that
Here is a brief moment with the C.O.O. though

Lacy - Werewolf!Reader x Wanda Maximoff - Kinktober #07
Tumblr media
Summary: This Halloween, Wanda receives a surprise visit from her favorite werewolf. The problem is that it's very difficult to keep a crush hidden during mating season.
Warnings: (+18), mutual pining, semi-public, very vague allusions to omega verse, beefy!reader, power!bottom wanda, a bit rough but they are actually sweet to each other, some praising and dirty talk. | Words: 3.144k
A/N-> First, I know nothing about werewolves. It was never my thing growing up (I’m a witch type of person I suppose) but I know about omegaverse stuff and since it’s wolf-based I tried some references from that lore. Also, I was totally thinking about Wednesday's show (and Wenclair ship tbh) when writing the school but you all be free to image whatever you wish. Also, the name is from Olivia Rodrigo’s song, ‘cause it’s such a friends-to-lovers/mutual pining coded lyrics. Good reading folks!

-&-
The mating season was always the most tiring part of the year.
Even as a child, her days were marked by hard work and running errands - her mother was always very busy with orders, and somehow, the twins were obliged to finish the tasks in record time, so as not to delay the calendars and keep Natalya busy when her customers needed her.
As the largest and most respected apothecary in the country, Natalya Maximoff was also one of the biggest dealers in magical items - and this also included natural suppressants. Her customers wrote to her from all over the world, many famous packs like the Romanoffs or the Howletts only bought her products, and the witch was always very busy at this time of year.
So when their mother told them that she would leave the Maximoff Magical Articles Boutique in their care for two whole days, while she delivered packages around the world, none of them were surprised, as this had been done dozens of times before.
Wanda's indignation stemmed from the fact that her twin brother, as soon as there were no more magical remnants of the portal his mother had conjured to travel through, put on a jacket and told her he was leaving.
"But you can't leave me alone!" Wanda hurried away from the counter. Pietro chuckled, adjusting his hat on his silver hair. Since he had turned 18 last month, he had grown a good few centimeters, and even with her best serious expression, Wanda, who hadn't grown much since she was 15, no longer succeeded in frightening him. That, and well, like his father, Pietro had a bastard heritage of lycanthropy, and with his new skills, he had also gained extreme confidence.
"What, you gonna tell me you're scared of some little wolves?" He sneered, his fangs protruding from his smile. Wanda huffed angrily, her cheeks slightly red. "Don't be silly, Wanda. You're a witch. Nobody's is crazy enough to mess with you."
He tries to pat her on the shoulder, but Wanda pushes a finger against his chest. "I'm not afraid of any wolves, you selfish idiot! Mom says the store is our responsibility. And you're sneaking off to do who knows what! I don't want to spend all night looking after this place on my own. Apart from the season, it's Halloween, and kids go apeshit and-"
"Jesus, Wanda, I'll make it up to you!" He cuts in, already pulling away and ignoring the other girl's protests. "I've got to go, I'm taking Crystal to the movies, then we'll settle up!
"Pietro!" But the call was ignored and the store door was slammed in her face.
Wanda huffed to herself. She could survive a Halloween night, but her brother would owe her a lot if he didn't want to be snitched on. She returned to the counter, texting him another dozen curses before texting to her mother that everything was under control.
And lucky for her, that's how the evening actually went.
Most of the few customers who showed up were locals, a few sorcerers in need of ingredients, and even a traveling vampire who needed to replenish some reserves for a long trip. Some children also asked for candy, and tired of getting up so often, Wanda decided to leave the jars outside.
It was almost at the end of her shift, when she was ready to close the shop, that a delicious smell wafted into the room. Wanda, who was distracted by the holiday lessons that the institute where she studied always offered when there were short vacations or not, was snapped out of her concentration by the fascinating smell. She looked up just as a figure stumbled into the store, covered by a school uniform hood.
She didn't need you to remove the cap to recognize you, and yet, when your face became visible, Wanda felt her heart unlearn how to beat properly.
"Good evening?" You looked between the shelves, approaching the cashier, only to hesitate as soon as you saw Wanda. "Oh, h-hi. Uh, is Madame Maximoff around?"
You looked uneasy, adjusting your hair and fiddling with your fingers. Your flushed face must have been due to the walk from the Institute to the store.
Wanda shook her head as she replied: "She had some orders to place. How can I help you?"
The color of your face deepened, and you couldn't look her in the eye for more than two seconds. "Hmm, I kind of need... suppressants." And it was the turn of Wanda's face to heat up. You continued talking anxiously. "I thought I still had some, but my reservation ran out, and since I'm in the dorm, I wouldn't want to... well, would you have any left? I know it's very short notice but I really need it."
Wanda nodded quickly, equally at a loss for words. You see, if you were any other of her werewolf colleagues, the situation might even be comical. She wasn't like Pietro and didn't make friends very easily, but she shared the same taunting nature. One horny wolf in the store and Wanda would have jokes for the rest of the year. But it was you, her longtime secret crush, emanating a very pleasant scent and in need of something so intimate that Wanda could barely control her own thoughts about what other ways she could help you if there were no other suppressors in the store.
"My mom usually sells everything before the season starts, but I can look in the warehouse to see if we have any leftovers. I'll be right back." She says, smiling softly at your anxious figure.
Wanda has never seen you in heat before; the mating seasons for new wolves begin at the end of puberty, between the ages of sixteen and eighteen, and the vast majority of her werewolf classmates at the Institute return to their packs at this time of year, already matched with their partners in the traditions of the lycanthrope. Wanda only knows about the rituals from her father's family, because each clan, from the Vampires to the witches, is very private about it all. Witches like her mother, who specialize in all kinds of products, are the exceptions.
Wanda tries the storeroom next to the counter, but after a few boxes, she snorts in frustration. Her mother really did sell everything, and she almost reprimanded you for not planning properly. For older, mismatched wolves, being without suppressors could be really dangerous. For you, a new werewolf, it would only be quite painful. It was easier for her to feel sorry.
And while she tried the last few shelves at the back of the storeroom, you grew even more restless outside. Wanda had no idea how intoxicating the essence of a witch, especially a witch one cared about, was. If you hadn't been so desperate, you would have given up going into the store as soon as you could smell her from around the corner, but then again, your brain wasn't working very rationally right now.
And there was also a scarf on the counter, Wanda's most characteristic item since she had received it as a gift so many years ago. Many of the times you've noticed her, she's worn the item around her neck and it made sense that her scent was so strong in the room, even though she was upstairs.
Your limbs moved by instinct, you didn't have to think much, just let yourself be guided by the urge to exhale that distinctive smell more deeply.
Your face was pressed against the scarf when Wanda reappeared, and her confused giggle made you jump away mortified.
"Are you all right there?" She ventured, receiving a very quick and embarrassed nod. Wanda chuckled again in amazement, and without caring much about your current condition, she approached. "I looked upstairs, but my mother sold everything, sorry. There's something else you might like to try, maybe a calming potion so you can sleep while... well, this happens to you."
You quickly agree, still embarrassed at being caught. Wanda doesn't mind, if anything, she always found it very entertaining how different you were from the other werewolves she knew; loud and confident to the point of being idiotic. Pietro was a prime example. And if it wasn't for your distinctive stature, she could easily have assumed from your shy and careful personality that you were just an ordinary human, perhaps a mermaid from the way you seemed to bewitch Wanda's attention all to yourself.
"I'm sorry." You mutter suddenly, while she is searching for a sleeping potion on the shelf under the counter. Wanda turns her face up in confusion, but you're looking away. "From the scarf, I know it's... weird. But my body seems to be acting on its own. Just forget about it when we get back to school, okay? I'll be normal when it's over."
"Don't worry, I don't mind." She assured meekly, before finally finding some bottles that could help you and taking them back to the counter. She bit her lip at the way you were panting, and the way your trembling fingers pulled some notes and coins out of your pocket. "You can take these two vials today, and this one in the morning if you're still..."
"Horny'?" You joke, and take Wanda by surprise, but she manages to return the short laugh. Your hands push out the money and she turns away to pack the vials into a small bag. "So, one now and two tomorrow."
Wanda quickly denies it. "No, darling, two now and one tomorrow. Are you... are you sure you're all right? You're sweating-"
"Just give me a minute." You interrupt her with a gasp, the sudden wave of heat catching you completely off guard. The room starts to spin, and for a whole moment, all you can feel is your own arousal and the way you want to touch the witch in front of you. Your body gives way, and your hands force down on the counter, disastrously strong enough for the wood to crack. Wanda jumps in fright, worried, but you grunt quietly. "Shit, I'm really sorry-"
She hurries around the counter, and her soft hands make you jump away. "Hey, it's okay, I just want to help you stand up."
But you gasp in despair, wrenching your body away from her. "Don't touch me, Wanda, for God's sake." You grunt, and if you hadn't sounded so affected, Wanda would have taken offense. Instead, she stands ready to catch you if you lose your balance again, and that's exactly what happens. This time, your weight falls forward, and Wanda's body serves as a barrage.
Your wolfish weight is almost too much for her, and it doesn't help that your face is buried against her collarbone, and your arms embrace her clumsily. "Hm, so soft." She hears you sigh, as she struggles to drag you over to the reading area of the store's bookshelves, where there's a sofa to put you on. When you fall into the cushions, you look up with dreamy eyes and an easy smile playing on your lips. Wanda gasps softly from exhaustion.
"Wait here a moment, okay? You feel like you're burning up with a fever. I'll get you some water." She explains, but it doesn't seem like you're listening very much, disconcerting her with the way you're looking at you so discourteously, your pupils dilating. Wanda adjusts a strand of hair, self-conscious under your gaze. "I'll be right back."
She practically runs out of there, and alone, realizing her own hands are trembling as she remembers the sensation of having your body against hers. She shakes her head to push the thought away, you were clearly in a vulnerable moment right now, and Wanda doesn't think she'll survive the shame of being rejected once the heat wears off.
When Wanda returns with the water, she almost drops the glass on the floor. You haven't moved, but you've changed position, limp against the sofa, evidently rubbing yourself down the item as you whimper.
"Oh, detka, let me help you." Wanda abandons the glass on a shelf, and rushes to your side, kneeling beside the sofa. You gasp in embarrassment, trying to escape her gaze, but Wanda's hands grab your warm face. "Let's go upstairs. I'll make it better." She whispers the invitation, but the thought alone is enough for you to grunt in affection and pull her face towards you.
It's a hungry kiss, and the position doesn't help. Wanda has to grab your shoulders to keep from falling to the floor and ends up breaking into a giggle when a moment later it's you who's throwing yourself at her, desperately kissing her as if she's going to disappear.
The lightness disappears quickly. She feels very hot and bothered, especially when your tongue slips into hers as if you already knew exactly how to kiss her, and your hands touch her entire body with determination. Her plea for you to slow down turns into a moan when your knee pushes between her legs.
It's almost primitive the way you seem willing to have her right there on the floor, angrily trying to pull her clothes off while your moans mingle. Wanda's face burns and she struggles to match the kiss, losing that battle all too easily when your palms begin to stimulate her nipples.
She can feel the wetness begin to bother her through the fabric of her panties, and perhaps, you can smell it too, because you grow more impatient, and begin to murmur disconnected compliments into her skin, your hands reaching down to unzip her pants. Wanda chokes between moans, practically whimpering when your fingers find her so ready.
You enter her, all at once, without a second thought. You suck on her tongue as she squeezes your fingerprints and soaks your hand. It's dirty and rough, and Wanda couldn't hold back even if she tried. Yet the store door opens, and she has to bite down hard on your shoulder to muffle her own noises.
Whoever the customer is, asking if there's anyone there or if the store is open, Wanda makes sure they don't see her. Her eyes are scarlet, and it's never been harder to do a concealment spell than it is now, with your fingers thrusting inside her as if the world around you hardly mattered. Finally, the customer leaves and her magic plays its part in locking the door before Wanda digs her nails into your back and comes against your fingers.
It's not enough - Nothing seems to be. You continue your movements inside her until Wanda is spasming again, begging for a pause. Your hungry mouth finds its way into her most intimate place then, just to tear more pleasure out of her. She loses count of how many times she comes, on your fingers and tongue, until the whole store smells of sex.
Fuck, she has to move you before Pietro comes back.
It's only when you let her breathe, retreating like a wounded wolf, that Wanda notices the puddle of moisture on your pants. You came at the mere act of watching and touching her.
"Hey, are you okay, sweetheart?" She coos gently, propping herself up on one elbow now that you're lying on your back, one arm over your face. Your clothes are as torn as theirs, but there are many more marks on her body than on yours.
You sniffle quietly, and Wanda looks at you with concern. "Why didn't you stop me?" you ask upset, and Wanda stares in shock for a moment. Then, swallowing dryly, she works up the courage:
"You didn't want this?"
But your reaction is to laugh incredulously. "Of course, I wanted it, Wanda! But I'm talking about you. Why didn't you stop me? You're a witch, you could have knocked me down, look at you! You're all purple, and I... God, I can't believe I... hurt you."
She climbs into your lap before you can despair, ignoring your soft protest and grabbing your crying face. "I haven't stopped you because I've wanted you to since we met." She assures you determinedly, caressing your cheeks. "I'm in love with you, you idiot."
Sniffling softly, you raise hopeful eyes. "Really?"
Wanda smiles, her weight against your chest. "Really." She assures you. "And don't worry about the marks, I... like it rough."
You groan in embarrassment, looking away and amusing her. There's a moment's pause, and then finally: "I like you too."
Wanda bites back a smile. "I got that impression, you know? When you were all whiny on me."
Your laugh is sincere and shy, and Wanda kisses you as your hands grip her thighs. But before she can deepen it the way she'd like, you break again.
"Thanks for helping with the heat... but I'll take you on a date after this. I promise."
She pulls on your bottom lip with a provocative bite. "I'll charge." She assures you in a naughty whisper, and you sigh contentedly as she presses your hips together. Smooth movements, and you're already seeing stars again.
Your breathing becomes shorter, and Wanda traces her fingers along your jaw, while her other hand moves down. "I bet you're all warm and tight."
You sigh, closing your eyes and nodding in agreement. Wanda kisses you leisurely, also taking time to slide her fingers into your pants and assess the effects of everything so far. She's not surprised by the immense wetness, but the sensation of sinking into you is overwhelming. She can feel ready for another when she starts to stimulate you and watches you squirm beneath her.
"So good... don't stop..." You moan helplessly, and the grip on her thighs is almost strong enough to hurt. Wanda makes a mental note of how to make you lose control of your strength, before curling her fingers inside you and being rewarded with the sweetest sounds in the world. "W-Wanda!"
She decides she likes it very, very much when you whimper her name like that. She continues her motions a few more times until you come hard on her fingers. Wanda thrusts a few times, before removing them and bringing them to her mouth, sucking them clean while you try to catch a breath.
Your murmurs are labored, and Wanda kisses your cheek a few times. "Come on upstairs, sweet baby, I'll take care of you." She tries to get up, but your hands steady her on your lap.
It's almost ridiculous how easily you lift the two of you, and Wanda has to hold onto your shoulders, chuckling softly at your uncertain stumbles on the way upstairs.
She'll have time to look after the store when you fall asleep. Right now, she's more focused on kissing you again.

"There she is, we were starting to think you'd quit on us." Derek joked as me and Spencer walked into the briefing room hand in hand.
After a particularly long and emotional case I had decided to take some time to myself to recover from it.
It had only been a week but in this job that felt like years.
"Yep here I am, no need to worry. I know how much you all missed me." I said with a laugh while sitting down at the round table, Spencer going to grab our coffees.
"Can't argue with that, lover boy over there has been lost without you." Emily said with a laugh smiling at me.
Everyone else had taken their seats as Spencer sat next to me, sliding my coffee in front of me with an excited smile.
"Well as much as I wouldn't use the word lost I have missed having you around here." He blushed lightly, trying to speak in the least awkward manner as he could.
I knew he had missed me at work, everyday he came home to our apartment he'd be glued to my side explaining every detail of the case he'd just gotten back from, wanting to hear my opinions and spend time with me.
As much as hearing about work took away the point of taking time off from it watching Spencer ramble on passionately and excitedly to me was nice.
Plus if I'm being honest with myself I'd be bored without it.
"Six women have been found dead in a suburban town in Texas, all between the ages of twenty to thirty and have appeared within forty-eight hours of each other." Hotch explained whilst Penelope showed the pictures of the crime scenes behind him.
"All girls were found within sixteen hours of being deceased and had already been missing for more than a day, meaning he keeps them before murdering them. He has stabbed them all once in the abdomen, careful not to hit any vital organs so the body doesn't shut down. Instead he stabs them to leave them to slowly bleed out." Penelope added whilst handing folders of information out to everyone.
"So it's likely he already has another girl with him now?" Rossi asked with a frown as he flicked his folder open.
"More than likely yes, and with and increasing confidence and skill set we can only assume he's going to continue at a quicker or more brutal pace the longer he's able to." Spencer added, looking to the group with a smile that matched nothing that he just said.
I sighed and looked at the images in front of me, at least this case seemed fairly simple in comparison to some of what we've had to face.
~~~
"This guy is most likely a social younger man who holds enough respect and familiarity within the area for people to feel comfortable enough to get into his vehicle alone at night. He doesn't force his victims to comply they willingly trust him until it's too late due to his natural charm and charisma. Then he holds them for a day before killing and disposing of them. He doesn't hurt them in their time of captivity, meaning he most likely feels remorse or is unsure of his actions, but the thrill of the kill is to enticing for him to let them go. He's confident within his ability to kill, shown in the slow and precise manner he takes in the murder. He is most likely a local who has lived here his whole life due to his knowledge of the area and the trust everyone has toward him. He also appears confident in his ability to not be caught, since he dumps the bodies rather than hiding them. He believes he's more intelligent than most people and above the law, and his high IQ helps fuel this narcissistic ideal he has of himself. That is all thank you." Hotch walks away from the room of police officers who were noting down his profile, gesturing to Emily, Rossi and Derek to follow him into an interrogation room.
I jumped up from the table I was sat on and gathered my notes from next to me.
"I just don't understand how we could have such a sick individual in our community doing this to women. It's just shocking to me." Officer Davis said from beside me.
He was the head officer on the case and the chief of police in this town, he'd been assisting me and Spencer in the last few hours with trying to create an idea of where to begin looking.
"Yeah it always comes as a shock when a member of your community causes something like this." I offered him a small smile whilst gathering my stuff to head over to Spencer, Officer Davis following closely behind me.
"I just can't believe something like this could happen here."
"Can you think of any groups of people within the community that hold a lot of respect and trust? Like public speakers, church groups, large charity groups or public helpers?" I asked him flicking to the page of possible careers I had, smiling at Spencer as I settled my stuff next to him.
"Well apart from the obvious like the police and fire force, I couldn't think of anything. We're quite a religious area but none of our churches have any well known priests that everyone would know, we have too many churches and priests for people to form personal connections with. Although we do have a large neighbourhood watch group. They do nightly patrols in cars around the streets and main roads. They're a very large group of people."
Spencer's head shot up at the last bit. "Do they have a known leader people would know? Or any type of uniform they wear to be recognisable?" He asked Davis while scribbling something on his whiteboard.
"Not uniforms no. Although, the patrol cars they use do have these stick on lights they use to be recognisable. Pauls the leader, he tells people when their needed for patrol."
"So our unsub could be a patrol member, approaching women in his car so they know he's apart of the watch group and trust him enough to get into the car without any hesitation!" Spencer said turning to Davis "I need a list of names of the leaders of the group."
I opened my phone, calling Penelope "I'll get a list of the people on patrol the nights that these girls were taken, see if there's anyone that was working every night."
~~~
Less than a day, that's all we had to find this woman before it was too late.
I was stood in an office with Spencer and Rossi, bouncing ideas off of each other, hoping something stuck.
"Penelope got him." Derek said with a smile walking into the room.
"Paul Fredrick, thirty-five years old, lived here his whole life, was arrested ten years ago for an assault against an twenty-one year old woman, and in charge of the neighbourhood watch patrol schedule." Spencer read from the paper Derek just handed him.
"Hotch, Emily and that detective are already heading there. We need to go this girl probably hasn't got that long left." Derek said gesturing us out of the door quickly.
~~~
"He's confessed." Spencer said with a smile, kissing me on the head as he took a seat next to me.
I'd been sat in this empty office in the police station for an hour now, something just doesn't feel right.
"Really? Doesn't that seem strange to you? I mean according to the profile this guy is confident and intelligent. Surly he wouldn't confess after an hour of interrogation." I bit my lip lightly as I re-read my notes again and again.
"Well sometimes the profile isn't completely correct. Plus they found the girl in an abandoned warehouse a ten minute drive away from his house." Spencer shrugged "he isn't as confident as the profile indicates, he was also quite anxious and stressed when confronted which was surprising, but the evidence points to him and he's confessed. All of the logic adds up."
"I guess. I just don't feel right." I sigh and look up to him with a frown.
He matches my expression and stands up, kissing my forehead lightly before collecting his stuff. "You probably just need some rest it's been a long weekend. The plane leaves in an hour, I'll go collect our stuff for us."
He gave me one more smile before leaving the room. As I glanced after him I saw the rest of the station basically empty and the time was three in the morning.
With another sigh I gathered my stuff and headed out the door. Maybe ten minutes outside in the fresh air would chill me out.
"Everything alright?" A voice from behind me asked, making me jump.
"Davis hi you scared me." I said with a laugh, holding the door for him as we both walked outside. "Everything's okay yeah I'm just rethinking the case."
"What's bothering you about it?" He asked, lighting himself a cigarette.
"I don't know, the whole thing just seems off, I mean why would Fredrick confess so quickly? He doesn't match the profile at all, he's awkward and of a lower intelligence. I just don't see how he could do this alone. Plus why would he take these woman to an abandoned warehouse that could be accessed to the public or the police whenever rather than his own house? He lived alone in an remote area with no neighbours. It just doesn't add up." I shrugged and pulled my arms closer to me since the cold was nipping at my arms.
All of a sudden I felt a blunt pain hit the side of my head.
~~~
(Spencers pov)
"Everything alright kid?" Derek asks me with a concerned look.
"Yeah, I'm just worried about Y/n." I reply, fidgeting with my fingers as I talk "She's been questioning the case and I'm starting to think she might've been onto something."
"What do you mean?"
"Well didn't Fredrick seem odd to you? He had a low IQ and no charisma at all, even if you knew of him I doubt many people would willingly get into his car. Plus he transported the girls for no reason, he put himself at risk by doing it in that warehouse rather than his own home. There's no way he could've done this alone."
"What are you getting at here kid?"
"Well didn't he come across to you as more of a submissive personality?"
"You think we have two unsubs here? A team?"
I shook my head quickly calling Y/n as I spoke.
"No not a specifically a team. A dominant who lured the girls and killed them, and a submissive who picked the girls out, disposed of the bodies and took the fall. It would make sense, Fredrick was to easy to find, this unsub would be to intelligent to be this simple. Fredrick was on patrol the nights the girls were taken, he most likely saw them first and then alerted the other unsub of them so he could then take them."
"Well if this unsub was so intelligent how come it was so easy to find his partner?"
The phone rang out, that's strange Y/n always picks up.
"He wanted us to. He pointed us in that direction to throw us off, he didn't need Fredrick and he knew he would stay loyal if he was caught. He wanted us to catch Fredrick so we'd leave."
Derek's eyes went wide as he got his phone out of his phone to call someone.
"You know who told us about the neighbourhood watch and the list of likely suspects?"
Derek asked with a frown.
"Davis."
~~~
"Has anyone seen Y/n?" I asked as I walked into the room that the rest of the team were in.
They all looked at me with worried expressions as Emily handed me my bulletproof vest.
"According to the CCTV she was last seen leaving the station with Officer Davis" Hotch said clearing his throat, trying to remain stern and collected even though he was as distraught as the rest of the team.
"What?" my face fell as I scanned the room, everyone either looking away from me or straight at me with concern.
Derek's phone beeped and everyone's heads snapped up to look at him as he stood. "Pen's got an address, lets go."
~~~
"FBI!" Derek yelled as he kicked down the door, letting himself into the house as I followed behind, gun trained ahead of me.
"What am I looking for here Reid?" he asked, clearing the first room.
"A basement most likely." I said walking ahead, spotting a door that appeared to be heading downstairs.
I nodded my head toward it and Derek went ahead, opening it slowly and walking down.
I followed close behind him, a loud smash was heard from in front of us and before I could even see Derek shot, leaving Davis on the floor.
"He tried to run, threw something glass at me." Derek said, gesturing to the blood from the new cut on his arm.
"Can you see her anywhere?" I pushed in front of him as he flicked on the light switch.
I scanned the room before my eyes landed on her figure in the corner, laying on the floor looking pale and bleeding from somewhere. "Y/N!" I ran over there, putting my gun away as Derek called for a medic through the radio.
"Hey your going to be okay. I'm so sorry, I should've listened I'm so sorry. Y/n please. Come on open your eyes. Please..." I felt Derek's hand on my shoulder as I started to cry.
Before I could comprehend what was happening a group of medics came in and surrounded her, Derek pulling me out of the room.
~~~
I paced the hospital waiting room floor, it had been hours and we'd heard nothing.
Emily was asleep on two chairs. Hotch was sat looking at the floor, tapping his foot anxiously. Rossi had been standing up to speak to the receptionist every ten minuets, and Derek had be constantly picking up calls from Penelope who had kept ringing for updates despite Derek promising to call her as soon as we knew.
And I had basically paced a hole through the floor.
"Reid sit down and eat something. Stop punishing yourself." Hotch said with a frown.
I shook my head and continued pacing. "I can't, I should've listened to her, or stayed with her. I didn't even try first aid I just froze when I saw her..." I replied, voice cracking.
A doctor cleared his throat behind us "Y/n L/n?"
We all looked up at him with matching worried expressions.
I held my breath as we waited for him to say something.
"She was stabbed in the abdomen but luckily suffered no trauma to any organs. She's lost a lot of blood but she's going to be okay. She's just woken up so she's a bit out of it but she can take one visitor."
I felt my whole body relax as I took a breath.
"She's okay?" I asked again with a shaky breath.
Derek put his hand on my shoulder and nodded with a smile "She's going to be okay kid."
I let out a little sob and nodded my head with a small smile.
"Reid you should go see her, let her know we're all here." Hotch said patting my other shoulder.
I nodded at both of them and followed after the doctor, taking a seat next to her bed, holding her hand in mine as carefully as I could.
She opened her eyes, slowly turning her head to look at me.
Somehow she was still smiling as bright as ever, provoking my face to mirror hers on instinct.
"Hey you." she said with a small laugh.
"Hi." I kissed her knuckles, a few tears escaping my eyes as I looked at her.
"Why're you crying? I'm the one who's be stabbed dumbass." she joked with a small laugh, causing me to chuckle.
"I love you so much, don't you ever do this again. I really thought I'd lost you. I don't know what I would've done."
"I'll try my best to stay alive then, just for you Spence."
She smiled sweetly at me with another small laugh, I admired her face for a second before leaning in to kiss her lips softly.
Me: "Yaaaay it's Horizons anniversary soon!!"
Others: "It's been a year since Satoshi's journey ended"
I... I didn't even think about that |D
Guess I was that ready to just let him leave the story.
Considering that none of the original series staff stayed in the writing team, they were too.
Since it's soon been a year and we're reaching the end of act 2, I can confidently say this is like, my favourite Pokémon series. Alongside Sun & Moon. And both are favs for wholely different reasons, as in, love Sun & Moon for tackling mature topics and for having wonderful humor, alongside good world building and nice focus on family theme. While Horizons I love the story focus shift from normal, cast that is super enjoyable and a take on a found family type of group, new original villains that I've come to like a lot, etc etc.
I love how different both shows are. I love how both dare to try new things out in different way. Liko is one of THE most relatable characters to me, and I love the whole entire cast to bits. I even adore the Explorers, esp. Sango is slowly making a hole in my heart that wants me to call myself a fan of hers. Yes. She's been that enjoyable to me. Even Amethio's grown on me immensely, I like how his character works, and excited to see his role this upcoming ep.
At the start Roy felt a tad bit too alike to Satoshi, and at times I can see that similar type of "forget about a skill and then do the skill" writing from Satoshi era is thrown on him, but he's still mostly his own character. But that is probably why I'm more drawn to the likes of Liko, Dot, Friede, Amethio and Sango, because their fighting styles are so refreshing for me. I even like how Onyx and Sango pairing works, with Onyx fitting Sango's oni-speaking pattern (srsly wtf that must have been intended and now I want to know if dub has ANYTHING to match this speaking pattern with.)
There's been clear growth, clear character progression, much much slower team progress than whatever the fuck JN did (not jabbing at anyone who likes JN but I won't deny that I really hate how fucking fast most Pokémon evolved there. It seems Horizons knows not to rush things).
Act 1 suffered from pacing issue where stuff happens in one episode and then the next ep sort of shrugs it off and continues the plot in a really weird tone-shift, but I don't think act 2 had that, which I liked. But act 2 also had more fill-ins compared to the action-packed act 1. But imo, it was good to have a more slower, calming pace for a while. It helped build on the characters more, and show how the Rising Volt Tacklers exactly live like. Which makes the Brave Asagi breaking in recent episode ever so more heartbreaking aaaaaaaaah-
I'm also kinda glad I was wrong on the "only a one year long series", because so far I'm quite attached to the cast and definitely wouldn't have felt happy to see them go yet. So knowing that Horizons seems to follow the usual 3 year pace (maybe 2, maybe 4, who knows) makes me happy. And I totally look forward to act 3 that is definitely caused by the Brave Asagi needing long, long time for repairs.
So um yeh. This was a weird ramble lol. But like, love Horizons, don't exactly miss old show as I felt it told whatever it wanted to and had the danger of just, butchering characters further from what I enjoyed it for. Sometimes it's better to let go. Fanfics and fanarts will still exists for a long long time, I'm sure. But my enjoyment on Horizons has definitely caused me to not miss the old days at all. And I'm glad.
(Do I want Satoshi to return? Honestly? No. 26 years is long enough for me.)
hi darling! could you do ice skating hcs with miles(1610)??
ɪᴄᴇ ꜱᴋᴀᴛɪɴɢ
Tumblr media
☆ ᴀ/ɴ: It's kind of funny writing this after sweating my ass off in the summer heat haha, kind of missing the cold :( anyways I wish I was good at ice skating because it looks so fun! I'm more of a roller skater
☆ ᴅᴇᴛᴀɪʟꜱ: SFW // Miles Morales (1610) x gn!reader // w.c: 0.4k // more visually friendly version can be found here!
Tumblr media
Miles has gone ice skating in the past, Rio used to take him during the winter when he was younger but he’d never done much more than cling onto her as she walked him across the ice.
But he promises you that he still has it when you both decide to go, it’s started to get chilly and the ice skating rink has finally opened. He reassures you that you won’t fall, especially when he’s around.
A bit more confident in his skills than he should be, he’s a bit of a clumsy person and it’s just amplified on the ice. He’s clinging to you harder than you are holding onto him, still trying to convince you that he’s okay.
“Come on y/n! See, I told you it’s not that bad.” Miles laughs, his voice wavering as he carefully steps away from you, his hands up to show you that he can balance on his own. “Look at you! We both got it.” He cheers as you take your own careful steps across the ice
It’s a lot of figuring it out together, Miles coaching you with the things he remembers from when he was little. You both stay close to the rails, Miles keeps one hand on it and the other holds your arm carefully as he guides you both along the ice as you both get into a rhythm
“Hey, just keep looking at me. I got ya.” Miles comforts you, the both of you standing on wobbly feet as you slowly glide along the ice. He keeps you close as to keep you away from the people skating faster, promising you both will be at their level soon enough
Peppers your face with kisses to encourage you and is honestly a great hype man whenever you start getting a hang of it, he seems to get more excited than you are
You both love to watch in awe as more talented skaters take to the ice, Miles constantly cracks jokes about how he could replicate their tricks but he turns into a sputtering mess whenever you challenge him to it (“Yeah I can do it but not when you’re looking- don’t laugh I get stage fright!”)
If you’re a good skater he will absolutely make you teach him how to do tricks and falls a whole lot in the process which makes him blush a lot in embarrassment
There’s no way only one of you will fall, it’s either neither of you or the both of you. You both have too tight of a grip on each other not to take the other down with you. Thankfully Miles always bounces back with a grin and tries his best to help you both back up
He’ll buy you both hot chocolate afterwards and help you unlace your shoes, especially with how cold your fingers are after skating for so long. He’ll even kiss your cheeks to warm you up
I had an extremely slow day at work today, so I chose to look busy by writing about BG3. Someone smarter than me has probably had this revelation before, but it gave me pause enough for me to feel like I need to share it.
I decided to romance Gale in my 2nd playthrough, with the intent of letting him get ahold of the Crown of Karsus, and its making me Feel Things.  I like this walking apocalypse of a wizard a lot (he and Karlach are my easy faves,) but its taken romancing him to really see that
tl;dr Gale's backstory really makes a handy allegory for gifted kid burnout.
From the beginning he was special, a golden child, someone who would do great things and go far. So, he ended up building his entire personality on that eventuality.  Older authority figures took a special interest in his talent and he immediately wanted nothing more than to please them, at the cost of making friends or learning life skills (well, except cooking apparently?)
(Then there's the whole issue of him developing a sexual relationship with Mystra who was without a doubt considerably older than he was and had that "but he's so mature for his age," mindset and all the fuckery that comes with that holy shit I can't even begin to desconstruct how much that would fuck someone up.)
Then he makes a mistake. He breaks a rule he didn't know existed. Why doesn't he know that rule existed?  Because no one told him.  They conflated his intelligence with maturity and his self-confidence with knowing his own limits. They forgot that he's basically a kid compared to them. (Elminster is what, centuries old?  And Mystra is a fucking deity.) He lacks the emotional maturity to understand why what he did was so bad.
Gifted kids know.  Among the absolute worst thing an adult can say to you is "I expected more of you," or "you should have known better." Which is pretty much what Elminster and Mystra said to him. And then they not only withdrew their attentions and support, but they also refused  to help him deal with the orb - an omnipresent physical and spiritual reminder of his trangression. After that... he just has no idea what to do with himself. He sits in his wizard tower until the Mind Flayers get him.
By the time the others find him, he's realized that the talent he used to get by on no longer serves him, but since he built his whole personality around it, he doesn't know how else to act.  So he maintains the bluff and bluster of a child prodigy, but he's now keenly aware of how pointless it is. He seems insufferably arrogant at times, but there's a razor-fine edge of self-loathing to that arrogance that he couches in self-aware humor. Over the course of his short time with the party he starts to feel like he's cared for and among friends, and even proves himself an attentive, affectionate and very grateful partner if you romance him.
Then Elminster shows up and tells him to atone for what he did by suicide bombing the Elder Brain. Bam, there goes his hope of finding a life outside of that "greatness" others told him he was destined for.  Once a gifted kid always a gifted kid.  Destined to be a human sacrifice on the altar of someone else's expectations, for good or ill.
And in a semi-related note, when you take him through the Dryad's trial, the answer to the question "whats his biggest flaw" is that "he thinks the world would be better off with him dead" and he says that its very true, but he didn't realize it until you said it.
Then you find the Annals of Karsus, and what does he say he wants to do with it? Reforge the Crown of Karsus with it so that he can obtain godlike power and make the world better for mortals, and he wants to share it with you.  With how smart he is, he really should know thats a terrible idea. But he doesn't, because of a combination of hubris and naivete.  He learned absolutely zero lessons from the orb debacle because he hasn't really been allowed to learn any lessons beyond "I just have to do the thing I'm good at, only I have to try harder this time."
I'm only on the second netherstone, but I have a feeling that this is going to end very badly.
Thoughts about Shinpachi
Tumblr media
Many times I’ve seen how he’s called out for being a boring character or that he’s annoying for yelling a lot, and although he never seemed like an annoying character to me, I’ve to agree that he’s dull compared to his companions.
Shinpachi is the ordinary character of the main group, the straight man who balances Gintoki and Kagura within the Yorozuya. He starts out as someone who lacks strength and courage, but gradually improves over the course of the series. His initial goal is to save his family's dojo, though that’s more of something Tae wanted to do for his father, not a personal aspiration of his.
At first he was given the trait of being the leader of Otsuu's imperial troop, which was an interesting contrast to his usually submissive personality, showing he has leadership skills, but he never made much of it. Although it does help characterize him as someone with a very good heart, supporting Otsuu when she was just a street artist.
I think that's the strong point of Shinpachi's character. He’s compassionate and always remains optimistic despite difficulties. He’s kind and genuinely good. But he also suffers from an inferiority complex, he feels he has no control over his life in a society in which he lost the only thing that made him special, being a samurai.
In the case of Gintoki and Kagura, their stories were relatively planned from the beginning (at least Sorachi had an idea), which wasn’t the case with Shinpachi. We could say that Beam Saber arc is the arc of his past. Here, like his companions, he must face someone from his past who has become a villain. While it's a very emotional moment for both him and Tae, this whole situation has the problem that it was never brought up before and never brought up again.
Part of the arc's conclusion is how the two siblings go on vacation after the fact, a joke that takes some weight off the situation in my opinion. The true conclusion of the arc shows Shinpachi reviving the dojo by teaching the homeless, but later we see that this doesn't hold up over time either, so the whole arc ends up feeling kind of pointless in regards to his character development.
Tumblr media
Something similar happens in the Correspondence arc, in which Kirara is introduced. Here they both pretend to be someone else when they meet, however, in the end they show themselves as they are, realizing that they’ve many things in common. It always seemed like a very nice thing to me, so I regretted the fact that Kirara didn’t appear again.
This wasn’t only because it was an important lesson for him to learn, but also because it would’ve been interesting to add another layer as Shinpachi's love interest. I don't mean including Kirara in the main cast, but keeping her present through the letters she would write to Shinpachi and bringing her back from time to time would’ve been enough.
Nevertheless, I consider the biggest problem occurred at the end of the series. Shinpachi was slowly but surely becoming an independent character. However, in the ending he’s shown to be unable to move on if he’s not with Gintoki by his side. And don’t get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that it's wrong that Shinpachi is very fond of Gintoki.
Nor it’s bad per se that he wants to be with the Yorozuya. It's about how it was shown. It appears that Shinpachi never followed his own dream. Restoring the dojo was something his sister wanted to do, not him. In the time skip he’s already an adult of 18 years. Staying in the Yorozuya seemed more like the need to remain in a shelter to avoid going out and having to face the world.
I would’ve liked to see that at the end of the series, someone who feels they’ve no control over his life would decide his own path. For someone with an inferiority complex to feel self-confident. Since the first prototype of the character was Nagakura Shinpachi, the captain of the second Shinsengumi squad, I would’ve loved Shinpachi to join the Shinsengumi, taking advantage of his leadership skills.
Been awhile since I had seen your stuff, and I really enjoy what you’ve been coming up with! Glad to see you’re having fun
(Also, how did you start here, so to speak? I would love to be an active creator in the kirblr community, but since I just lurk and rb because I don’t have the energy/confidence to create, I just feel like an unwelcome stalker LOL. Sorry if this is too much!)
Oh, gosh, thank you so much! I'm a little impressed at how things have turned out after barely two years(?) here myself!
I don't know if my methods could ever work for anyone else as they do me, as I attribute a lot of "this" to serendipity but...
...It seems to me I really took off after opening my inbox up to doing detailed ask memes about the characters. Again, this was kind of luck on my part because I spoke very lovingly (albeit truthfully!) about a few mega popular characters, which caused two of their fandom BNFs to kindly reblog my posts, and that sent a bunch more asks for the WHOLE rest of the Kirby cast my way!
I'm sorry to say, it does take a lot of energy though. But I do get the struggle, as I'm often exhausted by life/lots of jobs. However, if you can find any sort of mental "trick" to keep yourself going, you might discover you have more energy than you think inside you!
(Me, I'm very visual, and I keep a collection of my favorite fanart on hand. If I think I've exhausted myself on a character/ran out of ideas of things to talk about, I'll browse through my personal "gallery" and it will help me to remember characters/events/interesting points.)
As to the matter of confidence, you've probably heard the whole "fake it to you make it" bit and to a degree, at least, it's true. I've had a couple of posts where I've flooded the tags with things like "OMG this is so bad and I'm so sorry!" or "I had no time to work on this and it shows~" or "if this sucks it's because life is crushing my soul and I just want to sleep for a thousand years..." annnnnd unfortunately...
...even if it's how you're feeling At The Time, those things can make people feel like they're intruding into your space by liking or reblogging it. It's like, if you're telling us something so personal and private, maybe you really only want to hear from a friend right now, and not a stranger...? What I've done is I've told myself it's okay to write out those low self-esteem thoughts elsewhere but try to let the people who are here for the art/images/videos/writing/discussions just enjoy your art/images/videos/writing/discussions.
If you've got something to get off your chest, don't feel like you have to hold it inside, but don't hold your audience captive either.
(Also, something else fun about this: if you cast out positivity, you may find that it comes back to you, and when you look again at that thing you shared, it was NOT as "awful" as you thought.)
Now, a lot of that was about "external" confidence or what you display. As for internal confidence, that's... kind of a constant struggle. We all -- and by all, I I mean even famous published creators -- have times when we think our work isn't good enough. Annnd...
...Well, it isn't always great. But the fact that something isn't great now (even if it's the absolute best we can do at the time) doesn't mean we have no skill at something! We all have to start somewhere. And sometimes "somewhere" is a piece of art or writing or theory or humorous content that only 1-2 people think is "...Eh, not bad."
My first "hit it big" piece? My "Moon's Haunted" Kirby meme? Ohhh man, I can't STAND to look at now! I redrew it a few months back and if I were to redraw it today, it'd look better still, probably. The key is that I tried (...and that I meme-posted when the game was going viral >.> ) and I think that shone through??
(...It might be silly, but there IS a Nintendo Direct tomorrow. Probably no Kirby news, as I assume Vanpool's closure will bring an end to us getting multiple Kirby titles a year, but if you really want to try and take that ^ path, you can always get up early/stay up late and ready yourself to post commentary on any news!)
That doesn't just go for art, but writing/theories/HC as well. I myself find it a little sad when someone starts on a post and then will just trail off with "...lol I dunno, didn't think about it that hard."
"Don't say that, person on the internet," I cry! Do you realize how much information is at your fingertips right now? You can google for things even if you only know it as "that thing in that one movie about the fruit." You can watch a Youtube video in 5 minutes explaining the mechanics of something you've never seen or ever hope to do before! You can even watch a Youtube playthrough of a Kirby thing you forgot instead of saying "You forgot!" Don't know how to draw cloaks? Pinterest has millions of references! Don't like Pinterest? Just google "cloaks, Pinterest" and click on the images tab and you will never have to log into that accursed site! It just takes WANTING to.
Though sometimes, I think people write that out of embarrassment? Maybe they DID think about it but they don't think anyone would be interested? Or maybe they really didn't think about X or Y but didn't want to feel like they were neglecting anybody and that something is better than nothing. Which it is, but LOVE is even more important!
...And love, especially in a fandom space, can be ~complicated~
Like I mentioned above, I'm LUCKY that my top favorite characters also come close to topping the rest of "the fandom's" list. But as I've said before, I love every character in Kirby. Even the ones-people-want-to-throw-off-a-bridge-into-a-waste-treatment-plant..
And if I'd started off my tumblr as a "The Susie Haltmann Appreciation Blog!" as opposed to my actual "Hey I'm Completely Obsessed About Marx and Magolor and I Think About Them All The Time (...but I also like the Haltmanns from a story perspective for their heartrending tragedy that hits close to home for me...) Blog" I don't know if we'd be having this conversation right now. ^^;
(It doesn't just have to be all about controversy/"discourse" related stuff either. I could have started a "Daily Sillydillo" blog and had to retire it in a month due to low levels of interaction. The concept of fandom favorites might not be very egalitarian, when every character deserves to have their story enjoyed, but sometimes, strong love can make up for the lack of eyes on a thing. Occasionally ^^)
...Anyway, you might not have the energy, at least not all the time, and confidence might be a little low right now too, but you love Kirby, right? You have passion for it? Passion can get you a lot! And also, there's a few methods of interaction that, for personal reasons, I could not choose that have done wonders for everyone else!
For example, I have some old, unhealed trauma about OCs, but there's a whole hu~ge section of Kirblr that loves OCs and, as far as I've seen (??) tries to be really supportive about them?
Lastly, I can guarantee you, you are NOT a stalker and anyone who thinks being a "quiet supportive fan" equates to being a stalker should consider moving away from thinking of themselves and/or others in that negative way. You have stalked nobody! You have only shown an active interest in others! That is a POSITIVE thing!
And on that note, you're definitely not unwelcome either! Especially if you're one of the precious, wonderful people out there who reblog lots! If you want to get your toes wet, why not test the waters and build your confidence in this space by adding some of your thoughts onto your reblogs? You could build a rep/connections that way!
TLDR, sometimes gaining an audience/a space is a magic trick that no one knows the secret to. Other times, it is the result of months and months and months of hard, lonesome persistence.
The best advice I can give you is advice I would give myself:
-Be kind if you can, if you cannot, then be understanding -Demonstrate care about your interests and those of others -Forgive yourself for being at the beginning of your journey
-Enthusiasm, sincerity, and love are warm lights in this world of ours that can, at times, seem so dim and dreary. Light a little lantern for yourself and remember to laugh loud with joy that life is also so amazingly, ridiculously magical and before you know it, others will find their way to your light to add their lantern to yours!
The music blasting through the speakers in the venue made it just a little bit harder for the server to hear your order. It's quite the busy weekend considering the weather was not favorable for most. The rain tends to drive people to stay home and cozy. However, you loved the rain. It was the perfect time for you to enjoy yourself in a not so wild environment. So, the amount of people that were crammed into the building tonight was a little overwhelming. "Hey! Can I please just get a Yuengling? Tap if you have it!" The server nodded at your order and turned to walk away. Your favorite table was always the one in the corner by the front door in case you end up leaving suddenly. Feeling invisible wasn’t your favorite thing, but it was comfortable.
The server returned with your drink, setting it down with a small black cocktail napkin. You thanked her and twisted the salt shaker from the table, sprinkling pieces onto the thin coaster. A local band, some guys you’ve vaguely heard of, was set to play live in less than a half hour. You sat patiently scrolling on your phone while you waited for them to take stage. The owner of the bar had asked you a couple months ago to manage their social media page since you frequented every weekend. They were older and could barely figure out Instagram so taking on the task was no issue. However, you didn’t happen to be the best photographer around, just someone with basic photo editing skills and a great phone camera. Before the set starts, you people watch to find the next subject of a hopefully viral post for the sake of making the owners proud.
The next band, assumably the local band that had been hyped up for a couple weeks, began to take their rightful places on the small stage. Four guys around your age grabbed their instruments as you stood to find a better spot for your pictures. One of them in particular caught your eye, the singer. He stepped onto the stage with great confidence and a smugness to him.  “Thank you guys for coming to see us tonight. I’m Josh and we’re Greta Van Fleet.” His hands gripped the mic as he nodded to the guitarist, signaling the beginning of the song. This band had to be the hardest for you to capture still photographs of as they all moved across the stage continuously, especially the singer. It was a miracle his low-rise skin tight pants managed to stay on the entire time. His voice definitely did not fit the body, taking you by surprise at the notes he hit. High and low. It was intriguing to say the least.
The small audience space filled with screaming fan girls was not a shock as you watched the entire set. They had a charm and stage presence that draws you in to them. Josh interacted with them quite often causing them to absolutely lose their minds. As you tried to move your way through the crowd for a better chance at a shot stable enough to post, attention was drawn to you by the fans shoving back. Josh noticed you. His eyes lingered as he belted into the mic, not missing a single note. You became his target. He gave you the show you were looking for as he removed the mic from the stand and crouched on the stage directly before you. Looking directly into your camera as the words flowed from his lips. Once he hit a very exaggerated part, his head fell back as his eyes rolled behind his eyelids. Tongue exposed in his fully open mouth. The whole thing just seemed... orgasmic for him.
The show came to an end and the floor became a hyped circle of chaos as everyone made their way from the stage. Some taking a seat and ordering drinks, some walking out toward the street and heading on their way. You take your original seat and start to scroll through the now project of narrowing down the good and the bad results of your attempt to capture the wild ride that just unfolded. A light tap of a finger on your shoulder made you jump as your focus flew from your screen. Josh was standing in front of you, a cigarette in his smile as he acknowledged your phone in your hand. He pulled the cigarette from his mouth with his index and middle finger, pointing it the screen. “D’ya get some good stuff?” You look back down to your phone and find a couple shots to show him. “They’re not the best, but I’m no expert. Just helping the owners with their social media a bit.”
He takes the seat beside you at the table and grabs your phone, scrolling through the pictures for himself. The waitress from earlier approached the table again asking if you’d like another drink. Josh keeps his eyes on your phone as he orders some obscure drink and you order yourself another beer. “Huh, I like this one.” He turns the screen toward you to reveal a very provocative mirror selfie you’d recently taken in secret. A couple nights ago you'd gotten just a little wine drunk, or maybe a lot wine drunk, and threw on a hot outfit you’d been saving for your next rendezvous. The fishnets hugged your thighs, the tiny skirt sat on your hips revealing a little bit of your ass cheeks underneath, a very very small bra held your chest up, and your face... well you had been feeling yourself so your eyes read a very scandalous expression as your finger was held between your lips. You had definitely forgotten about it until this very moment.
Your mouth hung open as you realized what was happening. Embarrassment filled your mind as you tried to come up with an excuse for it. But there was no excuse, you just felt hot as fuck. The fact that he even said anything sure was ballsy. And you liked it. “What’s your favorite film?” Josh’s eyes looked at you as if he was trying to test willingness to play along to a little game. He was trying to distract you now. He’s in control of this interaction and making it clear. Quietly you mumbled, “10 Things I Hate About You.” It feels like a trick to test his pretentiousness, but in all honesty, it was one of your top movies. He’d never know that truthfully though. “You’re fucking kidding me.” You can’t help but bust out laughing at his response. Not exactly what you expected but nonetheless, he did fall for your backfire to his game. “Nothing thought provoking?” You were ashamed to keep entertaining him but the fact that this specific man was giving you attention felt really good. “Fine, Donnie Darko.” Nodding his head with a fake impressed expression, he replies, “Okay, okay. Interesting.”
You huffed at him with a look of disbelief. “What? Are you, like, reading me or something?” His eyebrows flew up his face at your attitude. He likes it.  “Actually, yes. You can learn a lot from someone’s favorite fantasy world. Who’s your favorite character?” You hesitate for a couple seconds before replying, “Honestly... Frank. He’s everywhere but not an actual physical being. Mysterious, in a kinda hot way. I feel like we’d get along. He could haunt me every day for the rest of my life and I'd never be scared. He’s... comforting? I dunno, I’m just rambling now.” A nervous giggle sneaks through your lips as you feel a hot blush falling across your cheeks.
“Okay, Josh. What’s your favorite movie?” Without needing a second to think he replies, “The Shining. Really fucks with your head but it’s not real either. Seems we have something in common on that part.” The only thing in common if feels. A cunning smirk crept from his lips, immediately drawing your eyes in. He takes notice and swipes his tongue across his bottom lip and pulling it in for a light bite. At that point you don’t know how long you’ve been thirsting over his lips but you heart heavily beating through your chest pulled you back to reality.
“So, I know you really don’t have that much experience in photography but I was thinking,” He seems to be genuine when asking the favor, “would you want to come take some pictures for our new album promotion? I kinda actually like the... rawness of your editing.” Now that actually felt like an insult, but you tell yourself he really didn’t mean it like that. “Give me your number, Frankie.” This name caught you by surprise. “Frankie?” He ignores the question and reaches his phone to you with the name already written into the contact. You typed your information in before handing it back to him. “Perfect! See ya soon, Frankie.” An effortless wink was your goodbye before he turned with his drink in hand to join his band mates at the bar.
That whole night and the couple following days were filled with thoughts of this man. He was so intimidating but calm about everything. It was hard to read him but you’d take your chances and trust him. After the picture fiasco, you weren’t quite sure what kind of relationship this was at this point. Josh had texted you earlier today about starting the shoot. You agreed and tried to set up a makeshift studio out of things you just had laying around. Your apartment was filled with whacky furniture and antique trinkets so it wasn’t hard to come up with the perfect space.
“Here’s Joshy!” A loud enthusiastic voice announces his entrance as he walks into your front door after throwing it completely open. “Where’s the other guys?” Josh shrugs and heads directly to your fridge, scrounging around for something to drink. “They, uh, had other plans come up.” He pulls a beer from the shelf and cracks it open. A couple gulps and a sigh to follow fills the quiet air.  “Okay, so it’s just us?” He throws the beer back again before assuring, “Yep, just me and you. Alone.” Something about those words tells you he had a different idea in mind for your session tonight. “How am I supposed to get the whole band in the pictures if they’re not here?” He finishes the last couple drops of the beer and smashing the can in his hand. Your eyes stayed glued to the veins in his hand as he gripped the crushed aluminum. “Edit them in or something. I had another idea anyway. Interested?” Your eyebrows furrow to him in confusion.
“Where’s your bathroom?” Nodding the direction to him, your mind instantly goes to horny thoughts you’d had over the days he stayed spiraling in and out of your mind. You fought with yourself over what kind of lover he’d be. Was he the type that always wanted to be in charge? But then maybe he was the one to switch roles. He liked it when you snapped his attitude back to him.  Maybe he likes to be told what to do every now and then. Either way, he just seemed like a tease. “Frankie!” Your new name was being called not from the bathroom, but from your bedroom at the end of the hall.
You walk in to see Josh rummaging through your closet. You make your way to him fast and smoothly slide between him and the door. “What do you think you’re doing?!” He moves back from you and answers, “Well, I was looking for something for you to wear. It’s part of the new project.” Standing in complete shock with your hands still spread across the doorway, you can’t help but scoff, “What’s the project?” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small bottle of a red thick liquid. Before you could even ask another question, he pulls his shirt above his head and tosses it to the side of the room. He snaps open the bottle and begins pouring its contents over his tattoo covered skin. It drips around the gold chain resting against his collar bones. The shock on your face couldn’t be hidden while he holds the bottle out to you, “Kinda like spray it on the wall behind me so it looks like I just slashed someone to death.”
“Josh, what the fuck is that?!” A laugh bellows from his chest as he swipes a finger across his chest gathering the glistening drops then sliding the finger into his mouth. “Relax, Frankie. Corn syrup and food dye. Like blood in the movies.” He grabs your hand and pours a couple droplets from the bottle onto your finger before bringing it to your mouth. His eyes catch yours and don’t let go as you pulled your lips apart slightly for him to give you a taste. It was sweet and sticky just like you imagined. “I already found it by the way.” He said as he let go of your wrist. Your eyebrows are again showing your confusion. “Found what?” He looks over your shoulder and tilts his head toward your bed. The outfit you had on in the picture he saw the night at the venue was laying neatly atop your bedding.
“Listen, the idea is we’re a blood thirsty fucked up couple. We get off on the kill.” You couldn’t take your eyes off the very small amount of cloth laying in front of you. Outside you tried to make yourself seem offended that he would even assume you’d play a part in this. Inside, you know better. Your head was spinning with excitement. “And you want me to be a part of this? What does this have to do with your band?” His eyes studied you up and down. You felt like an innocent prey staring into the eyes of the predator. “This is for, uh, my personal works. Nothing to do with the band. Just art.” Just art. You repeated it in your head thinking it over.
“Put it on.” He walked to the bed and held the outfit out to you still on the hanger. “Fuck off, Josh. I’m not going to model half naked for you.” That was a lie and you knew it. In fact, you had already day dreamed about it... multiple times.  “I said put it on, Y/N.” This time his voice wasn’t playful, he was demanding. He wasn’t using your nickname anymore. He left the room then you heard the front door open and close. You weren’t sure how long until he’d be back, if he was coming back, but this was something you wanted. All those day dreams and questions you’d asked yourself are minutes away from being answered. You slipped out of your clothes, laying them neatly on the bed to replace the outfit Josh had handed to you. Your reflection in the mirror this time didn’t look like you. A sinister woman was staring back.
The top was barely tied to your chest when he returned, a camera and tripod in hand. He didn’t react to your pretty much naked body in front of him. This did make you a little insecure, so naturally you pulled some of your hair over your shoulder to hide at least a little bit. “I brought this so it’d be a little easier to use with both of us as the subjects. I’m gonna set a timer on it and it’s really just going to be easier to film and take stills from the video for editing.” You nod at him like you had any understanding what he was talking about. Really the only thing you could focus on was his hands wrapped around the camera while he changed the settings. The way his fingers flex with every button he pushed.
“Let’s do this.” He slapped his hands together before walking toward the direction the camera pointed. For the first time since he walked into the room, he looked at you. Nodding to himself in approval with an evil grin. “I’m going to do a couple with just myself and then you can jump in when you’re ready, okay?” You return the nod to him in agreement. Something about him changed before your eyes. He became a character, somebody else. It was fascinating watching his posing and behaviors like you weren’t even there. It made sense why his favorite movie was about a man with some kind of separate personality. You weren’t in the room anymore, just him and whoever he was pretending to be. He was so good at it, you felt yourself trying to cower down and hide. Suddenly as you started to move back farther from him, his eyes fell your direction. Pupils fully dilated.
He steps closer to you while admiring all of you again. His eyes this time told you he would devour you in a second if you just gave him the word. “Josh... we’re supposed to be working.” A hand fell onto your exposed waist, the other brushed your hair behind your shoulder. A little sting sends a chill down your body as his teeth took a soft bite of the flesh he just cleared for himself. His lips brushed across your neck before stopping at your ear lobe.  “All work and no play makes Josh a dull boy.” Your head fell backward while his nose pressed into your neck as he laid kiss after kiss on your skin. You couldn’t help but focus on the cold sensation of his septum ring against your hot skin. His hands snaked their way down your back to each grab a handful of your ass pulling you closer to him.
His chest pressed against yours smothering you in the fake blood he’d poured onto himself. It was definitely making a mess that was going to be hard to clean. “Tell me what you want.” His voice between lips meeting against your skin just feels so right. You purr to him involuntarily as your worrying mind is no longer in the pilot’s seat. You didn’t even realize one of his hands had left their place to grip into your hair and pull back, eyes shooting open to see into his. “Tell me what you want.” He repeats himself again through clenched teeth. You smirk at him mockingly while looking through your eyelashes devilishly challenging him. He slips his fingers into the holes of your fishnet tights and rips them open, causing you to jump at the unwarranted action. “You really don’t listen, do you? That’s gonna get you into some trouble.”
The hand holding onto your hair let go before he grabbed the strings of your top, releasing your breasts from the fabric as it fell between your bodies. His eyes glanced down to them while he pushed you back to the bed and sitting you down. “Give me your hands.” You held your arms out to him while he wrapped the strings around your wrists, tying them tight. The movements of his hands were ingrained into your memory. He stood at the edge of the bed and undid his pants, pulling himself free. Another image stored into your brain. “You look like an angel covered in that blood, Y/N. Too good for me.” He was teasing you but it was turning you on. You didn’t want to wait for his next instructions so you wrapped your bound hands around it and started rubbing it slowly, looking up to him for approval. He grabs your jaw and pulls your mouth closer. “Open.” You do as he says and open your lips, sliding your tongue out to him. You expected him to slide his cock in but instead he bends over you, looking directly into your eyes, and spits right into your mouth.
“On your knees, ass up.” You did as he told while guided himself to the entrance between your legs. Sliding in just a little bit in and pulling completely out, forced a moan of frustration from your throat. “Now, tell me what you want.” You can’t ignore his demand this time. You were completely under him and willing to obey his every command. “I want you to...” He pushed himself a little more this time. “Fuck... I want you to destroy me.” It came out as a whisper but he heard you clear. Exactly what he wanted to hear. He went all the way in this time, making your mouth fly open and eyes squeeze shut. Your body adjusted to him the first couple of thrusts before he told you, “I love to see your ass bouncing against my cock, fuck!” He smacked his hand across it before grabbing your hips to pound himself deeper into you.
 Your head flew back from the force every time his hips hit against your backside. You can’t manage to hide your moans anymore as they turned more into screams of satisfaction. His hand ran up your back pushing you further into the mattress until it snaked around your throat. He gripped tightly using it to pull you back against his chest. Hot breath hit against your neck as he dug his teeth into your shoulder. He was destroying your pussy and your mind. There’s no way you’d ever forget this man. He awakened something inside of you. The way he tightened and loosened his hold on your throat had you dizzy. Your body was filling with heat and ready to burst with him deep inside of you. That fucking sweet spot he hit over and over again was driving you to the release you needed. “God damn, Y/N. You’re fucking shaking with my cock buried in that soaking wet pussy.” His voice was quivering as he spoke in your ear. He was folding into you just as much as you were into him. Your hands still tied together fell between your thighs, massaging your clit to match his movement.
You reached the point you couldn’t take anymore. Your eyes rolled back as your body stiffened. Everything around you was dissolving. A warm wet liquid coated both of your legs… and his. “Fuck yes.” He growled at you. Your pussy clenched around his cock over and over until he let you go to fall forward on the bed. He held himself over your ass and pumped until his cum was coating your back. A string of moans fell from his mouth while he finished draining himself. You lay on your stomach twitching in ecstasy as he laid onto his back next to you.
“I’ve never done that before.” You admitted softly to him, moving your face from his direction. “It was so fucking hot, Frankie. You don’t even know.” He laughed off your embarrassment, pushing his hair back from his sweat and fake blood covered face. “Josh... Why me?” He was quiet for a couple minutes before letting out a heavy sigh, “Dunno. Something told me you’d be fun to play with.” He rolled to the side of the bed and stood to walk out of the room. The sound of the shower knob squeaking on let you know his time with you tonight was done. Time to wash the sheets.
The following weeks after the first hook up consisted of meet ups for pleasure and pain. It was hard to tell yourself to not catch feelings when he made you feel this way. He made you feel wanted but not at the same time. He was addicting. It was confusing but you were trapped under his spell. Every time he looked into your eyes with his dark caramel gaze you melted into him over and over again. You had memorized every tattoo he had and could trace them with your eyes closed. You knew everything that makes him tick and everything he dreamed of having. Well, sexually that is. He refused to open up to you, but his eyes always told you the truth even if his lips always lied.
At first it did start out as some kind of kinky sex. Something he fantasized and wanted to play out. Over time it felt like he considered your needs more. He still played out his ideas but also started asking you what you wanted instead of only demands. ‘No kissing. No cuddling. No staying the night.’ Those were the rules. It was confusing in the beginning but that’s what he wanted. And you wanted him.
Somehow between all the action, you’d managed to squeeze in time to actually get photos of the band all together. Josh had shown you some tricks to get the look he wanted for the promotional flyers. It wasn’t as hard as you thought it’d be but he always made it seem so easy. Everything was easy for him. When the other guys were around, you were just a fellow photographer. When it was just the two of you, you were his in every sense. Easy for him to pretend even if it wasn’t for you.
Sometimes you couldn’t help yourself trying to keep his attention when his friends were around. You would stand as close to him as you could without him pushing you away, grazing the back of your hand across his when you walked next to him, catching his eyes for a second too long before he would look away. Today was the day to show them the final prints and edits. You spread them across the table as they looked through and commented on how much they loved them. Josh sent you a wink as you smiled proudly to him beside you.
You wrapped your arm around his waist and pulled him to you for kiss on his cheek. “What do you think you’re doing?” His response sent your whole body stiff with confusion. “I- I thought you wanted me to.” He pulled you to the side of the room and looked back and forth between your eyes before whispering so nobody else could hear, “Look, I don’t know what you think this is, but it’s not it. We’re not a thing. I was just having fun.” There it was. Everything you felt was going on but denied yourself because it’s not what you wanted. “I don’t understand.” His eyes looked sad but yet he stood his ground. “I think you should leave. Now.” The other people in the room had caught onto the scene and awkwardly stood around the table. A fire of rage started to fill your body as you finally caught onto his game. This was the plan the whole time. He just wanted to use and dump you when he won.
“What about the pictures? You don’t want them?” You throw the prints at him sending them flying around the room. “I don’t need your fucking help, Frankie. I’m used to handling things on my own.” he growled at you. He turned away leaving you to talk to the back of his head, his attention was no longer going to be for you. “Don’t fucking call me that, you fucking asshole!” Thumping in your chest took over your body the more you thought about it. Stomach in a tight knot as your mouth watered with sickness. Eyes filling with flooded waters waiting for the dam to break and set them free. Lungs heavy and collapsing with every releasing breath. Your heart ached. That was it. You were done.
A couple weeks had passed and there was an event your venue was holding at an employee’s house. You pulled up to the party not knowing exactly how to feel. In a way, it was good to get out and enjoy your friends again, but part of you just missed the rush he gave you. You didn’t know if he’d be here but the chances were high considering he’s now included into the local music scene. He can just walk around and live his normal life socializing and doing all the things he wants without a second thought. No regrets according to him. How was it so easy for him? So easy to just pretend like nothing happened. Like you didn’t mean anything to him. As much as you wanted to believe it wasn’t true, the reality of your different lives proves itself.
The house was filled with conversation and loud music from the speakers. You made your way to the table with all the liquor set out and pour yourself a hefty glass of vodka, soda, and a few limes. After a couple gulps of the strong mix, you made a path around through the groups of people standing around. Once you got to the middle of the party, you heard a familiar voice followed by loud laughter. Your head whipped in his direction to see him surrounded by some music industry people and friends. It hurt to see how happy he was, or pretending to be.
The liquor was starting to hit when you realized you had no idea how much time passed with you watching him. You needed a distraction and found your way to the area with people dancing around. There was a man there you thought you’d have no chance with. However, Josh had given you the courage you lacked in the past. You walked to him smiling before turning your back into him and grinding. His hand fell at your hip and your free hand found the back of his head, pulling him into you. The room was spinning as you downed the rest of your drink and stumbled around with the new man. You closed your eyes and leaned back into him before he spun you to face him. His lips were now pressed on yours, aggressively moving around them. “No thank you.” Your hands pushed against his chest to pull away but he wasn’t taking the hint.
You tried to walk away but a hand on your wrist pulled you back to him. “C’mon, babe. You came to me.” His breath against your ear didn’t feel the same as Josh’s. He didn’t make you melt. He didn’t give you goosebumps from excitement. He was just some man. You shook your head at him as you stumbled away the second time. “Fuck you, cunt!” The only response you could give in your current drunken state was to look him in the eye and flip him the bird. “Don’t fucking talk to her like that!” No way. No way that was the voice of the man that ran through your head every single day. You faced the direction it was coming from to see Josh coming in inches from the man’s face. “Oh yeah? What are you gonna do about it?” Not even a second could go by after he finished the question before Josh’s fist was planted into the nose of his challenger. He fell to the floor and held his face as blood began pouring from the wound.
Josh turned and rushed toward you, reaching his arm over your shoulder to guide you out the front door. “Oh, now you want to show me affection in front of people? I bet you’re so turned on by the blood, huh?” Your words were barely coherent when he opened his passenger door to his car and basically laid you into the seat. He walked to the driver side and slammed his door shut, jamming the keys into the ignition. “Where are you taking me, Joshy? Taking me to use and toss to the side? Hidden away for when you need a quick nut?” You were spitting your insults to his face but he remained unphased, other than his jaw clenching shut to keep whatever he had to say behind his teeth.
By the time he pulled into your drive way, you’d long been passed out. You were in and out of conscience while he picked you up from the seat and carried you to the front door. He reached in your bag, pulling out the bundle of keys, and fumbled around the find the right one. As soon as it was open, he headed straight for your bedroom and laid you on the mattress. Your shoes were tossed on the floor before he pulled back your comforter and tucked you underneath. His hand brushed your hair softly from your face before he disappeared.
Your head was pounded when you woke up. The rain falling against your window was unbearably loud and made you extremely nauseated. But not as nauseated as you felt sitting in the bottom of your shower, attempting to wash off the bad night, and remembering Josh coming to your rescue. You don’t remember all of it, in fact you only remember a few things. The guy, the blood, and you screaming in Josh’s face. Next thing you knew, you woke up in your bed feeling like your head and heart were going to explode out of your body.
You picked up your phone and dialed his number expecting it to go straight to voicemail. The ringing stopped and before he could answer you asked him, “Why did you save me?” He sighed heavily into the phone. “Just because I’m the bad guy to you doesn’t mean I am a bad guy.” That was an answer you weren’t expecting. A long silence followed before another reply from him, “That guy isn't good for you. Shit Y/N, even I would be better for you and I’m the bad guy here.” You finally tried to move on and it failed. He was right, to you he was the bad guy. But you felt he wasn’t being completely honest with his feelings either. ‘I would be better for you’? What does he even mean by that? He’s the one that left you crushed and putting yourself back together with no answers.
“Josh, he was just some random guy at a party. We weren’t there together.” Another long silence. You looked at your phone to make sure he was still on the call to see the timer still going. Minutes passed before he said anything. “Can I come see you?” You hesitated an answer but you wanted to hear what he had to say. Maybe he could explain what happened in detail for him to act like that. Or maybe he was just going to manipulate his way back into your life. At this point, who knows what goes on in that man’s mind? You surely didn’t.
Most of the anxious thoughts in your mind were probably from the little bit of hangover left, but you did feel sick at the thought of seeing him face to face again. Before he’d gotten there you made yourself some food you probably wouldn’t keep down, taken more ibuprofen than you should have, and down as much water you could manage. The longer you waited, the sadder you felt. It was lonely sitting there in your thoughts. Hours passed until you heard a light knock on the front door. You stood there knowing he was on the other side but not knowing the outcome. A deep breath and you opened the door. He didn’t give you a chance to say anything before he started explaining everything.
“All of this time I had myself convinced it was just me. I was supposed to be there for myself and never rely on anybody else. Nobody to help me see the small things around me and appreciate them, or make me think about how the way I act really affects the people I care about. I always said it’s not my problem how they react, that’s their problem. But that’s not true Y/N. You made me realize all of these things. I hurt you. I really hurt you. And I don’t know if I can forgive myself for that. You made me scared. I started having feelings that I couldn’t believe were real until I met you.” Seeing him standing in front of you was hard. You made yourself look into his eyes as tears finally started streaming from yours. They were empathetic and polite. Something you’d never seen from him before. He says he was scared of you but you felt he was the one to be scared of. As much as you wanted to hate him, you couldn’t. He just keeps you wrapped around his finger no matter how much you tried to let it go.
He starts to take a step toward you but you flinch backwards. “Fuck!” He yells grabbing his head in frustration. “I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry. I just- I'm gonna go.” As much as you hated how he treated you, you knew it wasn’t really how he felt. Everything he just admitted to you was real. You felt it. You just needed him to say it himself. Without realizing the rain had started again, you started running after him barefoot through the wet mud and grass of the yard. He heard you coming after him and caught you in his arms. Your head fell against his shoulder and your legs wrapped around his waist. “Frankie, I’m so sorry I hurt you.” he mumbled into your shoulder. His arms held you tight as the rain fell harder. You didn’t care.
He had ended up carrying you through the front door again, this time you would remember the whole thing. Soaked clothes and skin sticking together as he let you down back onto your feet. He pushed the wet strands of hair from your cheek before sliding his hands around your jaw. You finally felt his kiss. Soft lips giving you the words he wasn’t able to speak. Everything he’d held back the entire time. He was scared you were the one going to leave, this time he wasn’t letting go. His mouth followed yours as you pulled back only to relieve yourself of your dripping wet shirt. It hit the floor with a splat when it fell from your fingertips. He watched closely as you reached for the hem of his to follow the same actions. You hadn’t bothered to put on a bra, as this whole interaction wasn’t expected for today’s agenda.
You reached your hand for his. He smiled grabbing it softly and following you to your familiar bedroom. Your hands untied your pajama pants and slid them down your legs, tossing them to the side with a kick of your foot. “You’re so beautiful.” He took in your whole figure, appreciating every small detail. Every freckle and scar. Every crease and dip. It was hard to not smile at his admiration. You knelt down before him onto your knees and unbuttoned his pants, sliding them down his legs until he stepped out of them. You wrapped your hands around his dick and kissed the head softy. The way he looked at you was not the same. His eyes were soft and kind, full of love.
You stood and led him to the bed, pushing him lightly to lay down. He slid back against the pillows and watched as you crawled to join him, throwing a leg over his side and straddling him. His hands fell onto your hips while you situated yourself. You cupped your hands around his face, leaning in to kiss him again. His fingertips laced up your back while he pulled you into him. Tasting him was now your favorite sensation. Every move he made was delicate and light. No rush to get things finished. He moved down to your nipple, licking a couple times before sucking it between his lips. His tongue swiped it causing your clit to start throbbing at the feeling. You hum to him, “That feels so good, Joshy.” He curls his lips into a small smile at the praise.
His hand slips down your thigh and back up to your hip before moving down to your core. He swipes his thumb over your very sensitive clit while looking up to you for a reaction, mouth still latched onto your breast. Your hands wrap around his head holding him closer to your chest as he massages you. Warm fuzzy feelings rush through your veins as your first orgasm comes. You squeeze your eyes shut as your head falls back in pleasure, letting small gasps escape your lungs. Your hips rutted craving him inside. He lets your nipple free with a pop and reaches between the two of you, centering himself below you. You lean forward resting your forehead against his and staring into his eyes again. Sliding down inch by inch adjusting to him slowly. He places his hands on your ass helping you find your pace, grinding yourself down onto him.
You find your lips back on his, tongue swiping them open and inviting him inside. Your hips start moving fast chasing the high you were so close to finding. Moans filled the air with the sound of the rain against the window. Nothing else mattered anymore. You and him were together and it was everything you thought it would be. He was finally inviting you into the real him, not just the act he put on to protect himself from the rest of the world. He was soft, caring, and considerate. Even if the ride was wild, the result was worth it in the end. You could see it.
The feeling was building up inside of you again. The waves of electricity flowed through your body once more. “Look at me.” He could feel you pulsing around him as his own orgasm began to follow yours. You open your eyes to gaze into his, eyebrows furrowed in pleasure. “Please come for me, Y/N.” Shaking and grabbing onto his arms, you finished for the second time. He let go after you staring into your soul, it felt. Your body relaxed onto him as he held you tight. “I love you, Frankie.” he whispered to you. The words caught you by surprise as you tried to catch your breath, heart beating hard in your chest. You were scared to say it back but it felt so natural, no more thinking needed. “I love you, too.” Both of you stayed that way for a bit. Taking everything in, raw emotions hanging in the room. You didn’t need to say anything. He put a hand on your shoulder and push back, then sliding your hair from your face. “We should probably take a shower now, huh?” You nodded to him with a smile.
For the commentary ask game:
So he led the charge in this, assuming a leadership role Keyleth knows he would have rather avoided. Convinced the others this was a worthwhile endeavor. Appealed to Vax and Scanlan and Grog’s (and Pike’s) love of pranks and mischief, nudged them towards roles in the heist they would all enjoy the most. He gave Keyleth the position of lookout so she wouldn’t have to get her hands dirty if this whole debacle went tits up. Didn’t ask Vex to shield him, just to watch the machine and report back to him on what it was doing. He’d taken on the bulk of the responsibility himself, the bulk of the work, but he’d done it willingly for the happiness of a friend.
Percy’s not as bad a man as he believes he is, Keyleth thinks. Meanders another loop around the arcade. Given to anger, yes; haunted by things he refuses to speak of, sure. But bad men don’t lie awake at night worrying if they’re bad. Bad men don’t fix their best friend’s car free of charge and teach her how to handle the issue herself if she needs to.
Bad men don’t pop out of the guts of a claw machine with glasses knocked askew, glancing up at the girl they admire and handing her a token with a half-grunted “Try it now” as they hold together some monstrous amalgamation of wiring and circuitry only they can understand.
BLESS YOU TIA I LOVE YOU I HAVE SO MANY THINGS I WANNA SCREAM ABOUT
(Placing under a cut because when I said "DVD commentary" I, uh. Wasn't fuckin' kidding)
So when I started writing Secret I knew that I wanted to focus on aspects of Percy and Vex's characters that wouldn't come up in idle conversation. Since neither of them are prone to introspection while actively focusing on a task, it evolved to Keyleth being the one to observe their interactions from afar, and given her high wisdom stats mechanically, it gave me a way to delve into character intricacies that sometimes aren't explicitly laid out in fic.
I knew going in that I wanted to focus on two things in Percy's character. One: the idea that he defends and protects those he loves by arming them rather than interposing himself; and two, which I believe is the crux of Percy's character: "bad men don't lie awake at night wondering if they're bad." For Vex, I wanted to juxtapose her outward confidence and capability with the small part of her that was a child in an emotionally neglectful, if not outright abusive, parental relationship, because that explains a lot of her behavior in most aspects of her life.
For Percy, the part with fixing Keyleth's car was important to include in my mind, because it's both a real world example of something he would do and a perfect prelude to the claw machine heist shenanigans he winds up inciting in the fic (also, breaking into a machine to fix it and make it fair rather than just... steal the toy is such a Percy thing to me -- he wants to win, but only if it's enough of a victory to rub it in somebody's smug face). In both instances, two people he cares about very deeply are in a bind. In both instances, he has more of the know-how to address the issue than they do. However, it's clear that Percy has issues with autonomy and is very, very concerned with chivalry and respect and other customs of court that I'm sure he was steeped in growing up, so his default is to address the immediate issue but arm his loved ones with the knowledge they need to get themselves out of said issue. For Keyleth, that's fixing her car and showing her exactly how he did it so she can do it herself. For Vex, it's fixing the machine so she can win the toy through her own skill, because he knows she's capable and intelligent but also knows her father's disapproval means she questions her own worth and capability at times.
And, going along with that, Percy is an excellent leader -- his plans are sometimes... well (lookin' at you, murdering Draconians to piss off Vorugal), but despite his distaste for it, he's good at knowing where people are best used and placing them in those positions. He might not like leadership, and he might defer to the group more often than not, but he is good at it, and I think he'd be more than willing to step into the role if it benefited Vex or Keyleth (but especially Vex).
As far as the second bit of focus on Percy's character goes, I think the quote is pretty self explanatory. "Bad men don't lie awake at night wondering if they're bad." This is the line I constantly go back to when trying to describe Percy's character -- he's done some awful things, he has great capability for cruelty and violence, but he acknowledges those things about himself and shoulders his flaws, though he obviously wants to be redeemed in some way (Osysa's speech in TLOVM and his own admission of "I don't want to die who I am. I would like to live long enough to be someone else" prove this point). Percy has a conscience, and for that reason he wrestles with the darkness in himself and hates it as much as he owns his own failings and commits to his mistakes. I wanted that to come up in this fic, and it really felt organic for it to occur in this moment where Keyleth's watching him and recalling the things he does for the people he cares about -- he has issues, yes, but it's the little things like this that prove he isn't a bad man. Just a damaged one.
For Vex, I knew I needed an inciting incident to kick off the claw machine heist, and the image of a little Trinket plush in a skill game would not leave me. Vex likes material things in canon but they feed in to her years of starvation and barely scraping by as a child/young adult; the only way she would be this drawn to a cheap toy is if she either wanted one badly as a child and never got it or she had one and was forced to leave it behind. My personal headcanon is that it was her favorite toy as a child, one of the very few things Elaina was ever able to buy her children to play with, and Vex was forced by Syldor to leave it behind when he took her and Vax to live with him (stuffed toys don't tend to survive house fires very well, so she never saw it again). And I think that sudden spike of grief and longing and nostalgia coupled with the childish instinct to just... grab something you love dearly and run would leave her off balance enough to admit her past association with the toy to her friends, because we all know Vex plays things close to the vest when it comes to vulnerability.
So. All of those things together culminated in Keyleth (me. read: me) rambling for like six thousand words about my blorbos, and I'm so glad Tumblr doesn't give an ask response word count because dear fucking Jesus I don't even wanna know how long I've been droning on
Negotiation is an art.
Childe, or "Tartaglia" has utilized the art of negotiations in his daily life. Whether that be scamming the ninth graders with fake weed, or convincing the teachers why he doesn't deserve detention for injecting random fluids from the chem department into the school's resident pet frog.
All in all, by becoming an expert in the field of negotiations, Childe is nothing if not a master, tongue silver and smooth as he takes on a new opponent.
Which is why he dutifully negotiates with you on this Monday morning in front of the History classroom, getting down on one knee and pulling out a—
"I hope to Barbatos you aren't proposing Childe," You hiss, panicked eyes landing on the velvet box he's pulling out. "Considering that we're sixteen and still in highschool."
As if remembering those meagre details, Childe gulps and shoves the box back into his pocket. "Uhhh yeah, I was just, tying my shoelaces?" It comes out as a question.
You let out a sigh of relief, overlooking how he undoes his shoe laces just to do them all over again.
The ring burns in his pocket as he gets back up.
"Why did you call me here?" You ask, hand on your hip, foot impatiently tapping. The tap tap tap isn't because of impatience though, it's because you need something to cover the nervous palpitations of your heart.
He gives you a vicious smile, sinister enough to shake the bones of anyone who's observing, opens his daring mouth to show the imaginary sharpness of his teeth. Then with the confidence of about a hundred shirtless tiktok boys, he finally demands:
"If you don't become my girlfriend, I will kill—"
"Yeah sure thing." You answer before he can finish, soft smile growing.
Childe chuckles evilly, "I knew you'd say that, but I've come prep—wait a minute." He snaps out of his villain origin phase, stumbles back a bit, then his eyebrows are furrowing in confusion. "Did you just say yes?"
You nod, cheeks flaring up. "Don't make me repeat it." Then you look away, too embarrassed to see his reaction.
For a second, Childe's internal conflict following the chain of this event causes him to temporarily malfunction, and all he can do it stare at you in amazement.
It's only when you tell him to stop staring and jump off the school roof is when he snaps out of his daze, a grin festering on his face.
He lunges straight at you, giving you no time to deflect him as he wraps his bone crushing arms around you, then lands a soft smooch on your forehead.
"Let go of me you idiot!" You barely wheeze out, light headed not only because of your lungs being squeezed like oranges, but also because of the sloppy kiss he's delivered so ungracefully.
He does so reluctantly, and you're unamused, wiping the stickiness off your forehead with a sleeve as he steps back.
"Ew what the fuck?" You say, glaring at him. "What's wrong with you?"
He completely ignores you, giddy with excitement. "Ah girly, you have no idea how long I've wanted to do that. I can't wait to introduce you to my parents and eat lunch together and kiss each other during break—"
"Slow down." You tell him, as red as a tomato towards all his suggestions. "We've barely started dating."
"Oh," Childe stops momentarily, then nods in agreement. "You're right. We should start small. How about I walk you to class?"
"We're already in front of class." You nudge your head towards the classroom, and catch Zhongli and Venti peeking from the side of the door, trying not to be obvious.
You narrow your eyes at them threateningly.
Childe tugs your arm, lovingly looking you up and down. "Let's walk to class together anyways. In a circle."
A complete waste of time, yet it's impossible to say no to the face he's making.
Before you guys depart he suddenly stops, gasping loudly, remembers something important. "I have to make a quick phone call."
Childe speed dials Scaramouche, and the latter picks up annoyed, answers the phone with muffled sounds in the back. Something that sounds a bit like pleading and whimpering.
He then mutters something that forces dread into your system. "You can release the hostages."
You hear Scaramouche groan on the other end, muttering a "such a pain in my ass", but choose not to question it immediately.
As soon as the phone call is done and you're back by his side, you point at his phone questioningly. "What hostages Childe?"
He gives you a close eyed smile, taking the fifth.
"What hostages Childe?" You repeat again weakly.
First period goes by smoothly for the most part. Lisa, your so called best friend, once again is bought off like a corrupted politician by your new boyfriend. She sits far away from you, leaving you without any defences against the menace that dotes on you a bit too much.
Throughout class, all Childe does is score Venti's colourful pens, and then writes you annoying little love notes, using the expert origami skills he's learnt from Anthon to deliver them to you.
Despite the threat of distraction these notes pose, the corners of your lips can't help but tug upwards at his enthusiasm and attempt at poetry.
Zhongli makes sure not to ask you two any questions the entire class, leaving you to your own accord.
Lunch comes around soon enough, and your usual table of Diluc, Jean, Kazuha, and Lisa is disturbed by the torpedo that is Childe, and he brings collateral with him.
Kaeya whole-heartedly ceases the opportunity to sit near his stoic statue of a brother purely with the intention to annoy the premature crap out of him, but one look from the redhead sends the chicken-shit right back where he came from.
When Childe forcefu—lovingly feeds you the smiley fries and dinosaur nuggets his stunning mom packed him, Diluc looks just about ready to hurl.
Lisa winks at you two, Kazuha doesn't even bother looking, and Jean tries with upmost effort to keep Diluc from launching himself at the whipped fatui boy basking in your attention.
"Quit embarrassing me." You whisper-exclaim sharply, noticing how Jean passes Diluc—all green in the face, a puke bag discreetly. "Shouldn't you be doing something illegal right now? Or vaping in the stalls?"
"I quit vaping for you girlie." Childe boops your nose with his finger. "Well, at least full time. I still need a puff when I'm around Signora, to like, get rid of her awful vibes."
While it is endearing how he quit vaping for you, it doesn't lessen the need for you to bury yourself alive right here and now.
Then you sigh, pick up a Dino nuggie, and shove it in his mouth, the tip of his tongue flicking your finger. You die inside.
"There, you happy?" The action of feeding him is so...intimate, it sets your heart aflame.
Childe's a lovesick puppy when he chews, imaginary tail wagging a hundred times a second. "Can I have a kiss too?"
Diluc slams his hands on the table and stands up, hurriedly picks up his grape juice and makes a break for it. You don't blame him.
"I'll kill you." You smack him with a napkin, blazing red. "I'll end your pathetic little life right here and now."
By the end of lunch, Lisa and Jean have to restrain you so you don't break the world record for the maximum amount of mutilations that can be done on a single body.
Fourth period is a break. A break from Childe you mean. It's expected of the school's resident bad boy aka menace to skip classes in order to skip over the bodies of his victims.
You bask in the momentary peace, until it's disrupted by a tap on the window. Reckon it's nothing, maybe a bird flew into it, because intentional taps are impossible from the third floor. Except your conviction is hindered yet again by another tap.
What a nuisance.
You finally turn to look outside the window, face down, and spot Childe waving incessantly, rocks in hand, oozing with excitement that can't be concealed and a grin that nearly takes you into cardiac arrest. Without meaning to, you send him a small smile, waving back as Baal drones on about quantum superposition.
Successful in gaining your attention, he moves aside to reveal the hefty corpse of a stonehide lawachurl with a destructive path in its wake. The ridges and bumps of its hide are enough to do a number on the road, ruining the school's playing field.
Your smile drops down into a horrified frown in the span of a few seconds.
"Wow." Albedo, your lab partner whispers from next to you, for the first time distracted in class.
"Yeah," Kaeya whistles from behind you two, one hand supporting his head. "What a gesture."
"Y/N, I'd be grateful if you could possibly obtain a black crystal horn for me from the specimen." The blonde asks, entranced by the corpse that your boyfriend is flaunting off to you with pride.
"Aren't those things endangered cutie?" Lisa makes sure to butt in, as per usual.
Yes. Your boyfriend with several issues and an affinity for chaos brought you the corpse of an endangered geo-infused creature that's five times the size of him. During school hours too, the fiend. Like a cat dragging the corpse of a dead mouse to its owner.
You groan into your hands, heart racing while the fire is coursing through your veins.
That idiot.
Childe is exceptional at a lot of things, like the switch and making weapons out of seemingly harmless things (e.g shiv out of a toothbrush), but what he prides in the most is physical education. With washboard abs, uber tall height, and a dickish smile to top it all, he has everything it takes to showcase his top tier athletic abilities.
He pounces at the opportunity to show off in front of you, wanting nothing more than to have you fawn over his strength. He's sure it'll be enough to have you all over him, wrapping your cute little arms around his muscled ones, passing him his water bottle and dabbing away at the sweat on his forehead. Most of all, he daydreams you planting your soft lips on his to congratulate him after a big game.
Physical education, for you, is a pain. You may be good with your brain, but games exert more energy than necessary, and coordination that lacks logic entirely. You're just here for the credit. The over-achiever part of you walks the extra mile to ensure a grade in the high nineties.
Although witnessing Childe clad in the school shorts and matching polo shirt is enough to make this worth your while, you'll die before admitting it. Especially when he gawks at you as if it's the first time you're wearing the sports uniform yourself. It has you fidgeting with your fingers and tugging your shorts down nervously.
You try not to flip him off like you usually do, especially since it's not even been twenty four hours since he's asked you out.
Mr.Zhongli blows a whistle, calling all the students over to surround him. It's odd that he teaches most of the subjects at this school, seemingly the only adult present, but no one questions it in fear of genshin logic. Moving on, he explains that you have a dodge ball game today.
Lisa groans beside you. She hates anything that requires the exertion of energy, oftentimes bringing a book to read while everyone else screams in the background.
You're relieved, mainly because Childe and Tohma are usually captains, and Childe always picks you to be on his team as a means to flex his skills. For you, it means sitting back and watching him carry your team towards a straight A.
However, all your dreams are crushed when Zhongli announces the team leaders.
"Y/N, I trust that you'll lead the blue team to the upmost of your ability. Childe, prepare to lead the opposing red team."
Your knees shake as you stare at him in disbelief. "But Sir—"
"No buts Y/N." He scolds you lightly, checking off your names on the clip board. "I'd like to witness your exceptional leadership skills."
In reality, Zhongli just wants to reenact a lovers-on-opposing sides trope, wanting to see how the two of you crack under the pressure. In a way, it is an exercise of leadership.
Instead of picking teams, Zhongli assigns teams for the both of you according to his own judgement, trying to make it as fair as possible.
Lisa pats your back after your teammates are assigned, trying to cheer you up. "It's going to be okay. You guys are dating now, so he'll go easy on you."
You look up to meet Childe's eyes from across the court. He gives you a charming smile, which turns downright barbaric as he lifts up a thumb and motions to slash his neck with it. Then he wickedly mouths "I'm going to destroy you."
You blink and turn away as fast as you can in fear. "We're fucked."
Lisa, witnessing the entire ordeal nods alongside you, doing nothing to reassure you because she herself has given up.
Suddenly a hand lands on your shoulder gripping you tightly. "Let's wipe the floor with that g*nger." The voice is ice cold, threatening enough to send a shiver down your bones.
You turn to meet Rosaria, who frowns at you. Most of the time she doesn't really put an effort in dodgeball, but she must've seen your crestfallen expression, trying to comfort you in her own detached way.
Rosaria is the other school nurse in training, alongside Barbara, but somehow her patients end up more injured, sick, or mentally defiled than before they entered the room. She also spends after hours beating up Chads in the school parking lot. Also runs a blog with her booby co-author Kaeya that emphasizes mostly on the dark knight hero.
Spotting the rest of your team behind her, you begin to criticize them one by one.
Standing against the wall is Kaeya, pushing both his biddies up with his crossed arms like an absolute whore. He's breaking about several dress code rules right now. Venti is next to him, drunk off his butt as he beat boxes with Tohma.
Eula mutters under her breath, on and on about seeking revenge on Zhongli for putting her beloved Amber on the opposing team, promising him an unfortunate fate. Xiao is miserably squatting on the floor, sharp eyes observing everyone in the gym, scowl not ready to dissipate anytime soon.
Then you look over at Childe's team in the distance. Jean with a determined look on her face as she listens to Childe's game plan, and Diluc crossing his arms with his brows furrowed in concentration. Even Amber, the best baller in the school, is stretching out her arms, assisted by the gifted princess of the school, Ayaka.
Not only that, but Childe has the king of dodging on his team—Kaedehara goddamn Kazuha. Beidou shoots you a wicked smirk, winking at you until she's disrupted by Ningguang's shove.
"Oh my god." You cry out when the realization hits you, falling to your knees in despair. "We're completely fucked!"
"No we aren't." Rosaria mutters lowly. "You're only fucked if you want to be. Don't you dare throw in the towel before the fight has even begun."
"But I—"
"Stop it." She grumbles again, rolling her eyes. "You're being annoying now. If you lose the game, that makes him the dom. Don't you want to be the dom?"
She's right. You do want to be the dom.
Her words of encouragement, and not at all veiled insults somehow allow you to find motivation deep within yourself. You get up and stomp towards the rest of your team, calling their attention with your newfound confidence.
"Listen here soldiers!" You shout out, determination clear as day. "I know I am not capable of leading. I know that I barely have the physical capabilities needed to defeat the opposite team."
You take a deep breath, pointing at your cutie patootie boyfriend across the gym as you seethe. "But that man, that harbinger of chaos, that instrument of war, is nothing but a tyrant. And I cannot let such a tyrant be a victor in this battle. Not when innocent lives are at stake."
Tohma speaks up, sending you a bewildered look. "What lives—"
"Shut the fuck up soldier!"
"Yessir!" He immediately stiffens, saluting you.
"Are you ready soldiers?" Your voice booms, and everyone reinforces their priorities, except for Kaeya though. He just lazily smirks.
After Zhongli places the balls in the middle, everyone prepares for the battle of the century.
'Gods, please let us win this war' you pray to the archons above, closing your eyes in concentration.
'Give me the strength to flex my superior skills' Childe wishes, then adds on quickly 'also I want to dominate this world.'
'Give me the strength to make it to Friday.' Rosaria prays for nobody but herself, rolls her eyes at all the unnecessary dramatics of this dodgeball game.
"3..." "2..." "1..."
Zhongli ends the countdown by blowing hard into a whistle, signaling the beginning of the game.
Not even two seconds later a ball whooshes past a few of you at the speed of light, followed by a tail of fire. The ball of death kisses Kaeya square in the nose, sending him reeling back into a wall with enough sheer force to cause an indent.
Everyone winces.
Before you all can reel in from the initial shock and make sense out of wherever the hell that asteroid came from, Zhongli's voice booms throughout the gymnasium.
"Mr. Ragnvindr, headshots are strictly forbidden. You are out!"
With a scoff, Diluc, satisfied with his work, leaves the court with no apparent qualms. He accepts his defeat with the upturned corners of his lips.
Rosaria pokes Kaeya's body with the tip of her heels, then cringes when he shakes awake, up from his short lived knockout and sends a wink her way.
"Getting handsy when I'm unconscious? I didn't think you'd be one to partake in such vulgar activities." His eye twinkles in mischief, and if his momentary defeat at the hands of brother has him fuming, he doesn't show it one bit.
The only thing that keeps Rosaria from knocking him out for real is the blood that trails down onto his lip. She doesn't want to clean blood off her shoes, especially since it's a pain in the ass to get off.
You're about to tell them to get up and take this seriously, but a softball does your job for you when it darts straight at Rosaria. With pristine accuracy, the girl manages to pitch herself away last minute.
You swivel in Childe's direction, who wears a remorseless grin, which only grows wider once you pick up a blue softball next to your feet.
The glare that he receives has him shaking in exhilaration. More so than the elation he'd felt when he took down that Stonehide Lawachurl for you, as a gift of promise.
You begin to bark out orders. "Eula, Xiao, and Rosaria cover the front and act as decoys."
They nod immediately, but Xiao still clicks his tongue in distaste as he starts following orders.
Then you offer Kaeya a hand. "Get up princess. You're on sniper duty."
With Diluc out of commission, the battle is fair and square now considering both sides have the same amount of people. Ergo, no one's at a disadvantage.
That is—until Lisa fake trips over pure air, landing on the floor in a dramatic slow motion.
You roll your eyes.
"Oh dear! I think I've twisted something." She cries out, crawling away from the battle field, acting as if she's paralyzed completely. "Don't worry about me. I'll cheer you on from afar. The battle has begun, and it seems as if I've become the first casualty."
You don't let the countless amount of Lisa's betrayals get to you, even this one. It's just her personality to flake out on anything and everything that requires her to do more than below the bare minimum.
Focusing on the match, your eyes are only on Childe, just as his are on you.
You aim the ball straight at his ribs, step back a bit, then propel the ball in the air with as much energy as you can, using your entire body as a power outlet. The ball spins in the air, reaching the awaiting victim.
Childe, unbothered, dodges the ball with perfect precision, the ball not even grazing his clothes at the least.
Your jaw drops open, and you're about to move for another ball until he grabs the same ball you threw at him. With the sharpness of a predator locking in on its pray, he focuses on you like a missile locks on its target, launching the ball in the air for power that has you trembling, second to the powerful ball that was thrown by Diluc.
With your pupils dilated at your impeding doom, it's Xiao that grabs you and thrusts away.
The ball lands on the floor, smoke rising.
"Holy shit!" You shriek over everyone else's grunts and shuffles. "Are you trying to kill me?"
"Isn't it poetic?" Childe shouts back while he slides away from the balls being thrown. "Lover against lover. Either you're by my side, or in my way. And right now, you're in my way." He narrows his eyes dangerously. "Albeit reluctantly, I will take the victory babe. Even if we are on opposing sides."
"There was zero reluctance in that throw asshole!"
You thank Xiao, who wipes his hands on his pants in disgust. "Filthy humans. So pathetic and weak."
Mildly offended, you roll your sleeves up and begin to fight with everything you've got as soon as he walks away.
The dodgeball game goes as expected for the most part, Eula carrying for most of it with the flow of her skills.
Tohma actually tries like the presumptuous asshole he is, aims straight for his girlfriend Ayaka, and takes her out completely. His only justification for that is "I ain't no simp!"
He shelves his cocky attitude when facing Childe with a sense of dignity and prestige you didn't think he had in him.
The two one of a kind fuckbois puff out their chests so that they look more hefty than they are, having some kind of an Alpha match. The 'me stronger than you. me dominant. me get all the women' type beat.
Unfortunately, Childe manages to fence him with his throws, and lo and behold, the square off ends with a dejected Tohma dragging his feet to the nearest bench.
Eula oversees that Ningguang and Beidou meet a quick end, taking their slower dodging to her advantage. You're actually rooting for her, tasting a sliver of victory that you haven't reached yet. So close, yet so far.
Amber trips on herself in the middle of throwing a what should've been coordinated ball, and it loses most of its momentum. Xiao is directly in front of it, and will probably be able to catch it with ease.
Ah, another short victory.
If Childe loses his expert baller, he's only left with Kazuha and Jean, whom's lack in the art of throwing is made up by their ability to dodge most of the fastballs.
However, all your plans and hopes are crushed when Eula slides in front of Xiao last minute, sticks out her foot, and let's the pathetic product of Amber's would-be downfall hit her on the leg with the total force of about 0.0000001 newtons.
Your chances of winning have just went down by a staggering 60%.
"Eula!" You cry out, collapsing on the ground. "How could you?"
Tohma cups his mouth and bellows obnoxiously from the bench. "SIMP!"
"I cannot avenge my clan if I win a false victory." Eula crosses her arms, casting her gaze down in visible uncomfortableness. "Amber will pay her dues in two business days. Mark my words."
It all a load of cap. She's sleeping with the enemy and you know it.
You grit your teeth. Fuming with an abundance of rage, you pick up three balls and throw them all back to back, taking out Amber and Kazuha simultaneously.
Childe's heart flutters in another kind of delight when you pluck out his team members one by one with no hints of remorse.
In retaliation, Jean and Childe work in sync to swiftly take care of a distracted Rosaria.
"Shit." You hiss underneath your breath.
It's Venti, Kaeya, Xiao, and you who are the only remainders of your short-lived team. It's still two more people than Childe and Jean, giving you the upper hand briefly.
It's a mystery to everyone how Venti is still standing. You reckoned you would've lost him as collateral during the beginning of the match, but it seems he's able to hold his own.
When you squint hard enough, you realize that Xiao has been t-posing in front of the nonchalant SoundCloud rapper that's about as high as a kite. He must've been defending him throughout the entire round.
His defenses are all in vain once Childe correlates another attack with Jean, sharp-shooting four rapid balls that are secured on their targets.
Xiao swerves to the side, avoiding most of them, until one is about to reach a nonchalant as shit Venti.
You scream at him, eyes widening as you run towards them in slow motion. "NOoOoOOOo-"
The yaksha doesn't waste a moment, shifting so that he's covering Venti's body with his own, which to be honest is a pretty heartwarming sight.
The ball hits his lean back, a sharp thud following when it hits the floor.
Xiao is out. But his sacrifice is so inspiring that it brings tears to Zhongli's eyes, makes everyone in the gym go silent in awe.
Even the sadistic Childe melts, cerulean eyes gaining back their light, halting his fire.
When Xiao finally uncovers Venti's body, he speaks from the bottom of his dead heart. "I'd do anything for you..."
Venti shakes out of his baked state, blinking at him stupidly with a nervous chuckle. "Ehe~? I don't even know who you are."
The entire class sweat drops. Whatever slip of compassion on Childe's face earlier has become nothing but a memory. Even your eyes dim.
The next time Childe aims and locks at Venti, it's not with malicious intent. It's a favour, for you. In a way it adds dimension to who he is and the lengths he's willing to go for you, even at war.
Venti steps away with a bounce in his gait, hands behind his head.
Kaeya and you are the only ones left standing now, and the game becomes too tight knit to tell which side's going to win. It becomes utter chaos, balls being launched every second, stamina slowly decreasing as everyone lurches away from their demise.
As laid-back  and charming as the boy presents himself to be in front of the ladies, he's not very patient when it comes to facing circumstances like these. He's side lined for most of the match, finding it boring. And when Kaeya gets bored, the intensity of the tide changes, and everyone knows they're going to get a run for their money.
Kaeya coasts a hand around your hips, pulls you real close, purposefully leaning his bust into the side your innocent arm.
When Childe's smile drops, and the glint in his eyes reads 'DANGER' in full caps, you know it's time to be properly scared.
Your blood runs cold, mouth opening briefly and then clamping shut immediately.
"I'm so glad to be on your team Y/N. Maybe this'll give us the chance to become...closer." His hot breath fans against your ear, voice loud enough to be heard by onlookers.
Suddenly everything stops, falling into an unsettling silence.
You attempt glance at Childe, being met with a glare that's directed at the Captain of the Skating team. The ball in the orange-haired boy's hand deflates from the sheer intensity of the squeeze.
The tension becomes unreadable. Even Zhongli is caught mid-sip with his tea.
Quickly, you shrug off Kaeya's arm. "Childe, he's just fucking with you—"
Childe cuts you off by hurling a ball with nothing but the objective of cold blooded murder.
Kaeya whizzes past you, successfully ducking to avoid the hit, and his amused laugh rings through your ears. He rolls away from the following attacks, chucking his own series of colourful balls.
The events that unfold are blood-curdling enough to make even Satan boil his pants with diarrhea.
You take the clear opportunity presented by their concurrent dumbassery to take out Jean, the ace of the other team.
Childe's rage blows over when Kaeya eventually loses interest and takes the L, playfully winking at you while walking backwards to the rest of your team.
Now that all the distractions are dealt with, Childe's eyes flicker to you, and you share a murderous glance.
"Finally," He slaps the softball with a free hand, lips thinning into a homicidal smile. "I've been waiting for this. You better not disappoint me."
While Childe may be a violent anarchist who's only aspiration in life is to become a government contracted killer, he's also supposed to be your sweet boyfriend.
Slowly, you inch towards the front. "We don't have to do this Childe. We can coexist peacefully."
"Peace was never an option Y/N." He sighs, cracking his neck. "Besides—how else can I prove myself in your eyes? You may be my greatest weakness, but you are also my greatest adversary."
"I don't know, maybe start with not trying to obliterate me?"
"I'm obliterating you out of respect." He counters with a playful pout.
"Well I'll be paying my respects to your grave!" You lurch ahead into a sudden assault, yeeting as many balls as you can his way.
"That's my girl!" Childe whistles, grin widening psychotically when he goes all out, leaving you with an absence in favorable openings.
Out of nowhere, the fire alarms start going haywire, along with a beep in the PA system, which stops you two in your tracks.
A panicked voice of who you assume to be Yanfei shrieks through the comms. "CODE ORANGE! CODE ORANGE! EVACUATE THE BUILDING, THERE'S A STONEHIDE LAWACHURL ON THE PREMISES."
As if on cue, the ground starts rumbling and a Stonehide Lawachurl bursts through the halls and into the gym, looking around for something. Or rather, someone. It's sharp bumps and ridges make an indent on the floor, cracking it in.
Everyone falls into a state of panic, Zhongli trying his best to evacuate the class from the emergency back door as quickly as possible. "Settle down class, we have to follow protocol."
You, devoid of any emotion or sense of fear, turn to your boyfriend in such a calm manner it strikes an ominous dread in his stomach.
You stare.
Childe stares harder.
“I thought you killed it."
"I did." He retorts slowly, switching to gaze at the raging beast in amazement.
"Then why is it in the school!" You seethe, glaring daggers at his side profile.
Childe chuckles sheepishly, scratches the back of his neck. "I may or may not have stuffed the body in the boys washroom. Y'know, for safe keeping?"
The Lawachurl locks it's gaze on you, the prey, and then roars furiously. Turning into its geo-enhanced state, it begins charging at you with all its might, the target being solely Childe.
Leave it to your boyfriend to get on the hit list of an endangered beast.
"Fear not my vibrant girlfriend. Our first date can be surviving this." Childe cheekily kisses the top of your trembling hand before grasping it tightly and making a run for it.
Kenma x GN!reader
Im trying to stray away from my comfort zone of just writing readers that use she/her so bear with me
sorry if this lowkey sucks but it was inspired by harry styles song golden
cw: big cursing, huge fluff, strangers to friends to lovers, comfort, aged up!
come to my asks to be a part of my taglist! just let me know what kinds of fics/ what fandom/ what characters/ etc you want to be tagged in!
Requests are open!!
-------------------------------------
Being a streamer comes with perks. Being comfy at home, not having to face people in real life every day, playing games, typical shit. Another perk is making good friends.
Meeting people on a voice chat is common for Kenma -guys and gals alike. What he wasnt expecting one night was the sweetest voice on the other end of his headphones.
"You're all fucks- I'm better at this game than all of you combined. Try me."
To think that was the sentence that made Kenma's ears perk up and burn.
"What the hell ever- we have the great Kodzuken on our side." One of the guys said, half joking half dead serious.
"Oh yeah, he isn't even speaking up to defend your pussy asses- probably knows I could beat him too." You could hear the smirk in that last part.
"U-uh, no. You can't beat me. Nobody can actually. Not at this game." Kenma rebutted , confident in his gaming skills but not so much his speaking skills to this stranger.
"Oh man, you certainly sound confident. Come on, Kodzuken- 1v1 me then. Show me who the best really is."
Kenma suddenly felt nervous. Should he really demolish this stranger? Isn't it polite to let the person you like win? He didn't like this person yet but god their voice was attractive.
"Fine. Send the request." He decided.
"Sent, fucker."
The game resulted in a tie because this stranger actually knew what they were doing. They both threw friendly insults at each other the whole time of course, making each of them laugh a little.
"Okay fine. The great Kodzuken himself almost beat me. Im almost honored to have a great streamer almost beat me."
"Well you almost beat me too- uh-" Kenma stuttered over the fact that he didn't know how to address this stranger.
"Oh! Call me Y/n." The person giggled.
"You can uh, call me Kenma."
"Oh you don't want me to repeat your title over and over like everyone else?" They laughed.
"No, friends don't call me that. They use my name name." His ears were burning.
"Friends, huh? Guess that means you owe me your number so we can schedule a rematch where I can properly beat your ass."
"Huh, guess so."
A few months had gone by and Y/n and Kenma were as close as they could be. They found out they live close by each other and began hanging out a lot.
Y/n would be in the back of his streams on occasion and wouldn't hesitate to speak up during them. Thats the thing about Y/n. They've always been so outspoken. Since the start. Everything they talk about comes so easy to Y/n. Nothing is held back. Kenma knows everything about them. He on the other hand is still a bit closed off. Quiet. The two are so opposite yet so alike. Kenma doesn't speak much about himself, opting to listen.
Especially when talking about past relationships.
One night, they were sat in Kenmas room in separate chairs, letting conversations flow.
"So, you've dated but why have the relationships ended?" Y/n asked.
"Ah, I dont know- its not important. Why did yours end?" Kenma flipped the question as he always does.
"One guy cheated," Y/n tossed a piece of popcorn in the air, missing their mouth and brushing it off. "One girl left because she was leaving for school, and one guy just didn't mesh with me. Your turn." Y/n pushed the question back.
"Uh- well. I don't click with people easily. I'm pretty closed off so when I date it usually ends in hurt feelings by accident or they get sick of me." Kenma finally admitted.
"Huh." Y/n flopped onto their stomach on the bed after setting down the popcorn. "Don't you like anyone though? Like- if you liked someone enough, do you think you would give opening up a shot?"
"I mean I guess. Nobody ever takes the time to...pry me open." That got a laugh out of Y/n. Good. "But yeah I do like someone."
Sitting up suddenly, Y/n became visibly excited.
"TELL ME WHO."
"No god no- it isnt important." Kenmas ears burned again.
"Come onnnnn. Its gotta be someone big time cool to earn your heart. I have to approve."
Y/n pulled Kenma from his chair to the bed, not letting go of his hand as he sat down.
"Theyre very cool- and very sweet. Understanding. Someone who stands up for me and makes me comfortable-" Kenma began gushing.
"Do I know them?" Y/n interrupted.
"Y-yeah. You sure do." Kenma scratched the back of his neck.
"Oooh ok, a guessing game. Describe them more- their looks!" Y/n held his hand tighter, bouncing up and down with excitement.
"Well- ok." Kenma took a deep breath and decided he could be vague enough. "Theyre short. As short if not shorter than me. Competitive. Very cute smile-"
"TOO VAGUE give me the JUICY DETAILS" Y/n pushed.
"They uh- they have..pretty eyes." He was staring at this point, eyes wandering around Y/ns face to find more things to describe. "cute nose too I guess. Squishy cheeks. Glasse-"
"WHO THE HELL IS IT KENMA- its starting to sound like youre describing me." Y/n laughed.
"No- I'm totally not!" Kenma rushed.
"Tell this person you like them. You look so happy when you talk about them. Its kind of sickening."
"I can't just do that." Kenma stated flatly.
"Yeah you can."
"No-"
"DO ITTTT. Nothing to be scared of- it's CUTE. They would be dumb to not like you."
Kenma sighed, knowing he couldn't tell Y/n the truth about who he liked. What does he usually do when he's put in a corner like this? Oh thats right-
"Who do you like then Y/n?" He asked, proud of himself for deflecting again.
"Oh thats easy. You." Y/n said, letting go of his hand and laying back on the bed, leaving Kenma sitting up and stunned.
"What? No I mean a crush idiot. Who do you liiikkkeee?" Kenma pushed, hoping he didn't hear Y/n wrong.
"You, Kenma. I've had a crush since our first tie in a game. Thought that was obvious-"
Kenma flopped back on the bed as well. The both of them looking at each other.
"Oh. My person is uh... really... open and honest." Kenma said quietly.
"Is that why you wont tell them?" Y/n asked just as hushed.
"Yeah... what if right now they say yes but then their feelings change one day? That would hurt so bad. Worse than not telling them ever." He whispered.
There was silence. They knew what they both just admitted. Kenmas heart started racing. This might've fucked everything up. He might lose them. But they like him too so why is he so scared?
Y/n held his hand again.
"I know that youre scared because I'm so open...but hey... If you wanna give it a try..." Y/n whispered, scared about whether or not their honesty fucked them over.
"You might be right this time Y/n." Kenma whispered.
The space between them was closed due to both of them being drawn together like magnets in that moment. A sweet kiss.
"Let's try it then. I'll work on... being more open if you'd like." Kenma said.
"Kenma. I dont want you to change one bit. I like you the way you are."
Acceptance. It was the best thing Kenma has ever felt.
Warnings! Smut, lemon, unprotected, a bit of choking, bit of humiliation, sounds a little dub/non con in the end
Note: I just realized I've written nothing for my first and longest crush, none other than the arrogant grumpy assassin! Sorry for the slight ooc-ness, I get weird writing about him...
Also amazing art! It's thanks to this, I've been visually crushing over this man for the longest time! *^*
"Wanna blow off some steam, Assassin?"
He could still feel your hands all over him, the feeling of your touch;
Your fingers running up his abs, tracing his chest, running over his shoulders, nails lightly scraping the back of his neck before they carded through his hair finally coming to a rest in a tight demanding grip on the back of his head.
It was unlike whatever he was used to.
The girls in the garden. They just did what they were assigned to do. Though they were obedient and submissive, they didn't claw at him like they desired him.
It was unusual.
It was exhilarating.
It was wrong.
It had been one of the rare occasions where there was a brief pause in the conflict between the assassins and the templars. A moment of peace that kept you all from jumping at each other's throats while their mentors and your commanders talked out their differences for a mutually beneficial truce. And of course they both had the option of having their choice of bodyguards accompanying them.
That was how he first met you. In person and eye to eye. With a distance of less than a rooftop, even less than a swords lenght, apart.
He couldn't get it off his mind now.
You had heard of him, seen the havoc he had caused in your ranks without even being seen. And he had seen you before as you barked orders at your little pawns and cut through his less experienced brethren with no mercy.
Always from afar.
Maybe that was the reason you colided hard the moment those roles were gone and out of the way. Attracted by the differences like day and night.
So when you cornered him alone with that very suggestion you were met with little to no resistance as you grabbed his collar and crashed your lips onto his. You demanded and you took as you pleased, making him bend to your will and despite his arrogant self, he liked that. He liked being wanted. The way you had him on his back in moments, straddling him so full of confidence. You were quite a skilled rider too.
Had him wondering if he had finally met his match?
Now as he stalked in the shadows waiting for you to make a wrong move, he wanted to take back. He wanted you. He had spent weeks being distracted time and again by the memories of your little encounter, now that he was so close to you again he couldn't help but drown deeper and deeper in his inner conflict. Thess were slightly different times, what if you rejected him? It would be so embarrassing... and he couldn't just kill you off if you did, that would harm the truce...
He shook his head as he caught himself thinking nonsense again.
Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent...
You were a templar though... did you count?-
He didn't have time to measure your innocence as your pawns left to do something you ordered them to and finally you were all alone. All his. Easy prey.
A hand wrapped around your arm, twisting it behind you as he pulled you into the alleyway and slammed you front first into the wall.
"You've become too dull."
"Have I really?"
That was when he noticed you didn't use your other hand to brace yourself on the wall. The little sharp pain in his side from the blade threateningly pressing into him was proof enough.
"You'd still die anyway. So, yes, you have."
He let go of your arm and you turned around to face him in the very little space provided by his arms caging you to the wall, teasingly grinding your ass back onto him. He of course suppressed the little hiss in response, not wanting to give you the satisfaction.
"You think I dismissed my men because I'm dull and not because I saw a certain assassin lurking around in the shadows?"
He narrowed his glinting golden eyes at you.
"You are bluffing."
You chuckled as you wiped at your scraped cheek to ease the stinging.
"What ever helps your ego."
You could see his scowl even from under the hood casting shadows over his face that complimented his features, as he loomed over you, completely silent. His sunkissed skin, sharp bones, haunting eyes, defined scar over his lips.
"You are in templar territory, what do you want, bird?"
His grimace at the nickname had you smirking triumphantly. Why did you have to know their language... it was annoying.
"Don't call me that!"
"But that's your name."
You looked smug and he didn't like that but you didn't have all day for the yarn of his ego to untangle on it's own. You reached up, slipping your hand inside the hood and grabbed the back of his neck, pulling him down to you so you could whisper in his ear.
"Or do you prefer, Eagle? Am I your poor little prey this time?"
He could feel the goosebumps rise over his arms as he growled in annoyance, your voice rolled over his skin smoothly.
"If you were, you wouldn't live long enough to mock me."
"Flattering."
Your smirk widened, nipping the side of his jaw and pushing him off a whole step before he could react.
"Come, boy."
"... tch..."
Clicking his tongue he wondered if this was all worth it any way as he watched your form striding down the alley, taking his time before he decided to follow you.
To an abandoned building, top floors almost burnt away, leading to a giant hole in the roof opening up to the skies. At the entrance you grabbed his hand cause he was hesitating to step in.
He would have preferred more hospitality... like your own quarters maybe...
He didn't have time to ponder as you pushed him back on one of the few surviving furniture, before straddling his lap.
... a long wooden bench... in a burnt building with cold stone wallls...
"We're in a church!-"
You were already half way through his robes, heavily dropping the weapon belt on the ground as you looked up at his anxious expression, scoffing.
"And? Are you a religious man, Assassin?"
He glared at you but you had a point. He just didn't expect such disrespect from you. Were you not fighting as part of Richard's army?...
"You're shameless."
"Shame is a weakness. You didn't seek me out beacuse I am a weakling now, did you?"
You plopped down on his now not dangerously armed crotch and his hands shot up to grab your hips and steady you.
"Who said I seeked you out? I was just in the area for a job."
"Ouch... you mean you killed off one of my men and came to add insult to the injury?"
He paused as you paused staring down at him. Well maybe he didn't choose his words right. He wasn't good at lying on the spot.
"That's hot."
At this point he had no idea if you meant the things you said or if you were being sarcastic. But he didnt care as you started grinding down over him.
Like last time.
Oh hell no.
He flipped you, so now you were lying on your back looking up at him surprised.
"Not this time. You are mine now."
"Oh? Fine then, show me what you've got."
You almost immediately regretted that as the pit in your stomach deepened not only from excitement but from fear as his fingers wrapped around your throat tightly, nudging your legs apart to settle between them. As you let him discard your clothes, it was probably the first time it downed on you. The danger you were in. He could actually kill you. And no one would know. Kill you and leave you there disgraced and dishonored with no one to know where to look for you.
You wheezed loudly, clutching the wrist of the hand he had wrapped around your neck, your train of thoughts derailed as he unceremoniously thrusted himself into you.
His fingers left your neck, to fist in your hair instead, arching your neck so he had more room as his lips met the delicate skin, his stubble scratching you pleasantly. You grabbed the back of his neck, pressing his face deeper into the crook of your neck and he didn't mind endulging you, sucking and nipping on the skin, combined with shallow slow thrusts had you arching and twisting under him, trying desperately to get more friction out of him. He gripped your hips tightly, pinning you down and restraining your movements.
"I said you'll be good and do as I tell you to."
"That is not what you said."
"Don't test me, (y/n)."
He growled in your ear, his voice rumbling from deep in his chest and you were not about to argue with that as you hummed in response and decided to oblige.
He briefly pulled out of you, only to pull you up and dropping you on your knees on the stoney ground. With a hand on the back of your neck he had you face down, arse up and he plunged himself back into you groaning at the way you twitched around him eagerly with a loud wanton moan.
His other hand grabbed your hip to keep you from jerking forward while he drilled into you, completely different from his earlier pace.
"This is what you want after all. To be fucked like a little bitch with an important audience."
Between your moans and scratching at the ground in pleasure mixed with pain you didnt have time to wonder who, until he grabbed a fist full of your hair and pulled you back against him so you were facing  the old crushed cross behind the altar.
"...you fucking basta-geh!"
He shoved his fingers into your mouth, down your throat, deep enough to make you choke and gag around them.
"I'd watch my mouth, if I were you."
He resumed kissing your abused neck, fingers thrusting in your mouth, creating lewd wet noises and heavy moans.
You were close, he could tell. You were constricting around him so tight he almost released a few times if not for the way you bit his fingers angrily. But he wanted you to finish first. Wanted you to whimper and beg as you just couldn't anymore.
He sunk his teeth in your shoulder and that was it for you. A high pitched mewl and you were clamping down on him violently as your release shook you to your core, slumping over him as he slowed down ever so slightly.
Then he let you drop on your front and resumed his brutal pace, seeking his own release now, disregarding your half hearted protesting sobs.
It didn't take him long and he finished over your ass, panting heavily as he watched your shaky body, get used to the abuse way too quickly as you rolled over underneath him to shoot him a glare.
Awkward silence engulfed you both as he got on his feet and even helped you up with a hand and you both started fixing up your clothes and putting your weapons back in place.
This was not how it ended last time. The silenece made him wonder if he did something very wrong. If your little forbidden rendezvous had come to an end because of him. If it had, it was probably for the best but... he felt a pang of sadness thinking about it. Oh how he wished for you to open your smug mouth and say something. Anything.
"I think we can both agree, I am better off in charge."
"You wish, Templar."
"...well... yes, I do. That's the whole reason behind our ancient conflict, Assassin."
I just realised during the epilogue of DR V3 the hole Kiibo made was too high for Shuichi Maki and Himiko to reach….
What the heck happened to them?
Keebo's damage extended beyond just the hole in the dome. I mean, just look at how the fake "fencing" and phony cityscape in the distance were effected in this BEFORE/AFTER comparison.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in my mind, Keebo did enough damage to the structure to allow for there to be plenty of other potential fractures/escape routes opened up to them.
2. To your point, though: If they have no viable route out of there besides the hole in the ceiling, they're probably going to have to wait around for someone to retrieve them. Maybe it'll be like The Truman Show, and there are some people on the other side watching and waiting. In such a case, the exterior people could launch their own retrieval/rescue operation - maybe fly in a helicopter or something. But honestly, there's a good chance the first response will be from Team DR, and that's not ideal. God only knows what they'd like to do with the survivors. But then again, Maki does have the skills and reactions of a trained assassin... maybe she can help them remain stealthy while they wait. We're led to believe that the broadcast is off the air, so it's not likely that Team DR can just monitor them to see where they hide.
3. To be fair, maybe we should consider the look of the situation from outside, too...
Tumblr media
Yikes. That's a long way down!
What's with the weird blue light causing bloom at the edges? Is it just the fake "natural light" system of the inside that is somehow built into the crust of the dome, now bleeding out? Or maybe there's some kind of field separating them from the external "reality"? While we're at it, why does the rest of the dome seem to recede into total darkness? Is it just the middle of the night and very poorly illuminated, or could this dome be kept inside of yet another structure?
These things don't seem to bode well for them having an easy escape through that particular portal.
....................but hey, this is just overanalyzing the available visual evidence for fun. Lest we forget: sometimes the visuals don't sync up with the writing in this game anyway, so there's only so far you should really take these images.
I don't really believe we're supposed to think that Shuichi, Maki, and Himiko are doomed. In fact, I'm pretty confident Kodaka's authorial intent is precisely the opposite of that. In the end, this series is always about hope triumphing over despair. That's kind of the whole point. It wouldn't do to have them get recaptured and toyed with all over again. That's totally counter to the message.
Parker: "Teach me to like stuff."
.
Okay, so. I have some thoughts about The French Connection Job's Parker+Eliot subplot. And I think I wanna approach it separately, scene by scene from each of their perspectives, because we have a couple different things going on here. It's still a little more of a Parker meta than an Eliot meta, but I have enough to talk about on both sides, and they're connected enough not to be in separate metas, that I am going to do it this way.
Also going to put this under a cut because it gets long.
Parker
This whole subplot comes on the heels of the last episode, in which there was a lot of banter throughout about Hardison and Parker's dates, and him wanting to branch out into other things than just bungee jumping or whatever. We have seen hints of this throughout S5 so far, even though we're only a few episodes in at this point. They went on a world tour that was pretty much just jumping off of stuff, Hardison said something about them figuring things out. We saw a cute domestic scene of the aftermath of them watching a movie together, except Parker 'fell asleep again' and missed most of it, and Hardison eventually went off to work on his laptop. Parker tried to comfort him last episode about dust mites and ended up freaking him out instead. She talked about how she liked fire and Hardison complained she was missing the point of his offer for a candlelit picnic. They did end on a very romantic note with her still making the effort to make it happen but getting rained out, and him recognizing her effort and listening to him, and projecting the stars around the dark room then having the picnic inside. They are clearly very happy together and both making the effort to meet in the middle, but there are still some disconnects. Which makes sense this early on anyway, but it's not out of place for Parker to start getting worried about her limited interests here given the context of them contrasting Hardison's more widespread interests.
Starting right off the bat - there's a picture limit so I can't show these early moments, but throughout the first part of the episode we see Parker looking visibly upset/pensive. Hardison notices and asks her what's wrong, but is immediately distracted by his package arriving, and then the team gets into the briefing and he doesn't get to talk to her again. (Sidenote that this is pretty OOC for Hardison, and I have to assume he would at the very least come back to her later, but they were clearly trying to get Parker talking with someone else this episode and apparently couldn't come up with a better way to do it. His writing outside of the kitchen stuff was kinda off this whole episode anyway, what with the whole tip thing.) She was about to open up to him, however, which is important. There's also a scene shortly afterwards where she confides in Nate, again after he notices her being upset and asks what's bothering her. She claims everyone but her has 'a thing', and names a few of them. He asks her what she thinks when she sees Michelangelo's David, and when her answer is an immediate assessment of how it's guarded and what she'd have to do to steal it, he kind of hesitates and then goes right back to running the con. He basically gives up on helping her with this once it becomes clear that a quick sentence or two isn't gonna cut it.
So after those brief, unhelpful conversations, that's when she makes a move. She was responding to others before, but this time she comes up to Eliot, clearly nervous. And she asks him to help her feel something.
(I find it very interesting that she doesn't ask Sophie. Sophie is the person who she would usually go to for something like this, after all. But, aside from this being an Eliot-centric episode and just like them sidelining Hardison's possible assistance earlier the writers want Parker to talk with Eliot not Sophie, I think there are maybe a couple reasons why she might go to him here. First, just distance. Eliot is right downstairs, meanwhile at the moment Sophie is however far across town at her theater. Certainly not saying she wouldn't go to Sophie eventually, but maybe that's why not first. Second, she and Eliot have an understanding, one that's been explicitly acknowledged since the start of S4. They are similar in a way entirely unlike the rest of the crew. So while Sophie may understand emotions best, Eliot is the one most likely to know what Parker is talking about when she says she just isn't feeling anything. Which by the way I'm gonna get more into later on. Thirdly they're in love but that's not actually relevant here since all of the team love one another.)
Eliot
On Eliot's side, she approaches him when he's busy in the kitchen. This whole job is stirring up a lot of old feelings in him right from the start. Toby was someone who 'kept him from falling all the way down', and Eliot is deeply concerned for him. At the same time, the way they are running this con is allowing Eliot to take on the role of teacher. Even though his students aren't anything like the eager students Toby has just had taken away from him, Eliot wants so badly to take advantage of this opportunity to teach them - maybe even all the more because they're resistant. He's being given a very rare opportunity to indulge his belief that food is life and to share it on a larger scale. To use the knife to create, not just destroy. Leverage often walks a line between doing both (taking down the bad guys and helping people) but Eliot doesn't often just straight up get to just do the 'creating' part. (I mean, he loves the destruction too, he genuinely loves beating people up and taking down bad guys, but this is a rarer pleasure.) So he's pretty preoccupied with that at first, and initially dismisses Parker just like the other two guys did.
But when she just looks quietly disappointed at his response, he goes still and watches her. We cut away from them here so we don't see his actual response, but it's immediately clear that he's realizing this is actually something deeply important to Parker, and well worth his time.
On to the next part of this scene below.
.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Eliot sets a dish down in front of Parker]
Parker: "...It's just food."
Eliot: "It's not just food! Alright, some people could look at it and just see food, but not me. I see art. When I'm in the kitchen I'm, I'm creating something outta nothing, you know what I mean? And sometimes I crush it, sometimes it's crap, but either way - it makes me feel something."
Parker: "Feel what?"
Eliot: "Just... feel."
Parker: [murmuring] "Feel... okay." [looks down at the food and hesitates]
Eliot: "You know, I didn't feel anything for a long time. Then Toby taught me how to cook, and after he did, I started to feel stuff again. That's why I share it through my food - this is my art. This is my art, Parker." [Parker nods, looking worried] "It's like lettin' a stranger in your head, just for a second. And you allow them to feel what you're feeling." [pause] "Look again." [he pushes the plate a little closer to her. Parker takes a deep breath and slowly sets her elbows down on the counter as she stares down at the plate. Eliot watches her closely.]
Parker
At this point I want to talk a little about what Parker means when she says "feel something" and talks about "having a thing." Because we've seen her have interests outside of straightforward thievery before. Sure, most of her hobbies revolves around stealing - casing local banks for fun, for example. But she clearly has a deep love for Christmas and for chocolate. So why doesn't she count those kinds of things as 'feeling something'?
I think it comes down to what Eliot's talking about here. It's a sense of art. Not even necessarily making it yourself, although that certainly applies. Parker likes sweet things like chocolate and donuts, but although she really really likes them they don't make her feel any truly deep emotion. It's more tactile than anything else, just a pleasant flavor. Her love of Christmas isn't the same either in her eyes because it's not uniquely hers. It's something she loves to celebrate but she can't do so all year round, and plenty of other people like Christmas too. This one comes a lot closer, because it definitely seems to be tied up more in community and family for her than something like enjoying chocolate and piñatas, but it still doesn't belong to her in the same way that cooking does to Eliot or theater does to Sophie. And while theoretically her love of base jumping and so on could maybe count, it is still so tied up in her thieving that it doesn't feel separate. She's really good at drawing but only thinks of it as a useful skill, not a creative outlet - this is similar to that.
She has been branching out into a lot of new experiences and emotions lately, and while she's struck out deep into uncharted waters with her relationship with Hardison, once there she's only seeing more and more things that she just... doesn't get. She loves spending time with him, and enjoys what they do together, but she doesn't understand all of those things. Not on a deeper level. She wants to feel that sense of connection to something, wants to feel deeply emotionally moved by something.
And honestly? I think she's way up in her head about it. I'm not trying to dismiss her struggle here at all, but I do think she is stressing herself out about having something uniquely her own. About having a huge interest that speaks so strongly to her personally. And those are amazing to have, but it's really not necessary. She doesn't need a strong secondary passion so much as she needs to let go of trying so hard to force herself into something.
And what's happening in this scene in particular is that Parker is trying so so hard to force herself to feel something. It's evident in her face throughout the whole scene, in her body language. And she is so terrified that it's not going to work that honestly, I'm not surprised at all that it doesn't.
Eliot
On Eliot's side of this scene, he feels like he recognizes where Parker is. This entire job has him remembering how it was to feel nothing. Her phrasing got to him deeply. He wants to reach out and teach her to see something more, just like Toby taught him.
He knew a bit about how to cook before Toby. But it was only seeing Toby's passion that struck something in him, that awoke a part of himself he might've never known before. For Eliot specifically, cooking being an art isn't just something he likes. It's something that brings him hope.
Eliot doesn't believe in redemption. But he believes in actions. And what Toby did, by teaching him to cook, was to teach him that his actions can be good. That he can create, not just destroy. That all is not lost - not 'for' him necessarily, so much as 'in' him. There is a deep empty place inside himself that he can enter so so easily. The difficulty is crawling back out again. Cooking was his rope out of there. He still finds it difficult to express his emotions very often, particularly verbally, but when he makes someone a meal he puts a part of himself into it. And yet doing so doesn't take anything from him, it just adds more.
This is all very vague and figurative and may make no sense, but the takeaway I want to have is that Eliot is opening up to Parker on a very deep level here. He feels like he recognizes what she's talking about, and it was a very bad place for him. (Again, I don't think she is quite that badly off at this point in canon, but I digress.) And while making food allows him to feel that he is demonstrating his love for someone, that he is sharing a part of himself with them, he recognizes that she isn't receiving that. What she's getting, is just a plate of food. Tasty food maybe, but nothing more than that. And so Eliot verbalizes everything to her in a way he rarely does.
And then he keeps trying. This scene obviously doesn't end up making her feel something, and we don't get to see the immediate aftermath of that, but we can glean a little about how they feel based on their reactions. And Eliot is deeply determined to help Parker feel something from his food. He insists that she play the food critic; even speaks directly to her and reminds her to consider what they talked about.
.
In the restaurant, we start out with Parker dutifully playing her role but feeling nothing much beyond just the role. Eliot checks in with Parker, she acknowledges that the food is good but doesn't make her feel anything, and he makes improvements based on her feedback. Then something abruptly changes.
Tumblr media
Parker: "I can taste garlic, and mushrooms... and something else that makes me feel different."
Hardison: "Wait, was that for me, cause I-I don't get it."
Parker: "No, it's the food. I get it." [smiles] "I feel something."
+
Parker: "Mmm! These black noodles are amazing!
Eliot: "Parker, it's tagliolini nero con gamberi."
Parker: "Mmm." [eats a huge forkful] "Mmm. Mmmm. These are really good."
Parker
What just happened here? Last we saw from Parker, she'd failed to feel something from the meal Eliot made especially for her in the brewpub, and she was clearly disheartened. She felt it as a failure, very much in the sense of a disappointment. She didn't want to try again, didn't think it would work, and tried to protest when Eliot said she would be the food critic. Even once she got to the restaurant, nothing was happening for her.
The difference wasn't in the flavor of the food. The moment Parker started to feel something was right after she said she felt nothing and Eliot, instead of being disappointed or giving up, took it as a challenge. He changed his recipe, he improved it specifically to better reach out to her. He kept trying.
And yeah, maybe the bone broth helped it taste better. But that wasn't the point, not really. The point is that Parker had gotten herself stuck in a hole, trapped herself in this cycle of not understanding how things make you feel and then believing that she just couldn't. She wanted something of her own and she didn't have it and she didn't immediately get anyone else's thing either, and that was it. She just wasn't capable. She was other. This is an old old fear of Parkers, dating back to Archie or even before. Something in her just isn't capable of being like other people. She wasn't worthy of being in Archie's real family, and she's not able to feel passion for anything outside of stealing. (Setting aside the fact that she loves her team, that all she needed was the right family. That you don't have to be a creator to feel passion, and you don't need to be passionate about any particular thing in order to feel deeply and find beauty in the world.) Parker has empathized deeply with people, has felt so intensely before and is constantly trying to learn more and new ways to be. But because she is noticing her teams' passions now, she has this ideal that she wants to reach, and none of that is good enough for her. She doesn't even know exactly what her ideal involves, but she can't get to it.
But when Eliot doesn't give up, that gets to her. If he views his food as sharing himself with others, Parker finally gets what he's been trying to give all along. It's all about him trying again and again, changing his approach to match her better. That's what she feels, that's what she enjoys.
And once she starts, the floodgates open. She loves the black noodles. She is so happy, she is relieved. There was this huge resistance that she couldn't get past before, but Eliot persisting helped her to break past that and now that she is out of her head about it she can enjoy the food in a way she never has before. Because she feels his love for her in it.
Eliot
Eliot is trying so hard to connect to Parker. It's not really different from what I said in the last Eliot section, and basically the same as what I just said in that Parker section, but I want to emphasize a little more just how much this is about love on his end.
Eliot loves Parker. He loves her, and he wants so much to help her. It doesn't honestly matter that he does this with food, except for the fact that food is what matters so deeply to Eliot himself. He can't reach out to her in the same way through any other medium. And we don't get to see his reaction to Parker's moment of realization. But I think it would be such a deep sense of joy. This is as fulfilling for Eliot as it is for Parker. It's exactly what Eliot has been hoping for this whole episode, to teach someone else to see food in the same way he does. It doesn't matter if it only lasts for a moment or a single meal. That's enough. He has been the support Parker needed through this time of self-doubt. And it is all the more meaningful to him because this isn't just a random student, this is Parker.
He told her he loves her through his food, again and again, and she eventually felt it. She understood. That must mean so much to him.
I wanna end with one more brief note on Parker. Does she get her own "thing" this episode? No. No she does not, and this scene shows us that. Parker is not suddenly interested in food or cooking. The importance of that meal was purely derived from Eliot on the other end of it, focused on her and trying his best to reach out to her.
And I don't think this is something only Eliot could have done for her either, not really. The difference between him and the others this episode is mostly in persistence. However, it's also about her mentality. Hardison has built/done things for Parker before and she felt them just as deeply - but the context was different. She wasn't looking for a sense of beauty or art in the world at large then, and so even though she felt the love in the gift just as much, it didn't make her feel like she could find that kind of emotion in other things. She just wasn't looking for it. Also, it was made easier for Eliot to reach out because there's that connection Parker has with him, that understanding that they are on the same level somehow. She doesn't feel that with Hardison - and she loves him all the more for him being different from her, but he also I think can intimidate her with how good and open he is, with how much he can feel in so many different directions. It's part of why she got so worried about herself not being able to do so this episode.
Like, the team has scolded Nate for not having a life or interests of his own outside the job not too terribly long ago! And Parker has had her own joys before! But she isn't seeing that this episode, too caught up in this fear about not having her own 'thing', not feeling anything that way. So while anyone could have helped her through this, it was easiest for her to let Eliot do so + for him to understand what she needed from him. (Hardison in particular was rudely robbed the opportunity, but they all love and support her and could have reached her. Not to detract from Eliot doing so, but also I don't wanna sound like no other method of reaching out would've worked.)
But as soon as she feels something once with Eliot's help, that relaxes those fears. And then Parker is free to look in other places. She remembers Nate's comment about art, and maybe even tells him what she plans based on him knowing where she is at the end of the episode. And then she goes to visit this statue. In her own way which means breaking in, but without any goal of taking it. She just goes to look at the art. And she feels something again.
Parker doesn't gain some big passion at the end of this episode. She doesn't need to. She never did. She just learns how to let herself relax from that restrictive frame of mind. To simply be in the moment and enjoy things for the sake of what they are. To feel - not really in any way she was incapable of before, but intentionally now. It's a quiet victory, in the end. It doesn't mean she's going to get a new hobby or change her lifestyle at all really. But she's let go of a fear and is now intentionally seeking out new connections with the world beyond her once-limited parameters.
If you want to break new ground, I would totally take a Pacific ship - otherwise BoB is fine. I'm Merc, short dark hair, glasses, quintessential older sister/mom friend type (who uses words like 'quintessential' a lot). I love museums, and old cars, and sharing new things I've learned about women in the past. I find confidence in one's hobbies incredibly attractive, and I never say no to learning or trying something new. I am the earliest of birds, and I love spending time outside on my bike!
- ROBERT LECKIE -
- [general]
listen..... I HAVE REASONS OKAY
Leckie is Leckie so automatically he will be twirling/playing with your hair whenever you’re trying to do something
it’s also just something he enjoys doing in bed to relax before falling asleep, and seeing the smile on your face when he does it just really makes it even more worth it
you ground him s o much. Leckie isn’t really quite properly on his rocker sometimes due to the PTSD and stress in general, so even receiving a letter from you is more than enough to calm him down for at least a day or two
he loves to hear you say unnecessarily large words
literally its the best thing to him, it never ceases to make his day. especially when he has to ask you the definition of the word. it always manages to keep him on his toes
this man needs someone responsible in his life to stop him from being a complete and utter dumbass. you truly are the yin to his yang
he constantly calls you pet names like “angel”, and his whole excuse for it is “well, you are one”
will say sweet things to you in front of the guys and take the immediate bullying from them afterwards just to see you smile and blush
Leckie takes you to a lot of museums for dates, and he is always standing behind you with his head on top of yours with his arms wrapped around your waist, staring intently at whatever exhibit you’re looking at
wipes off your glasses for you when they get to be too dirty
then likes to place them back on your face before giving your nose a little kiss
writes so S O much poetry about you. literally every single poem is about how cute you are or how soft and dark your hair is or even just how he finds comfort in your presence
Leckie loves to listen to you ramble about every single thing you’ve learned, and sometimes he buys you historical novels about women just to feed your learning
he’s always trying something new with you, whether it be a new restaurant or hobby, he doesn’t mind as long as it’s with you
Leckie is pretty confident in his writing skills, but he always has you read over his work just to reassure him that it’s good
literally he does it all the time
like actually will not show anyone any of his writing until you’ve seen it first
i’m so so s o sorry but this man is n o t an early bird
in fact, he tries to pull you back into bed with him. you’ll commonly hear him groan when you wake up, instantly wrapping his arms around you only to bury his face back in your neck and refuse to let go
sometimes he falls asleep again with you in his arms like that…. good luck trying to get out <3
COUPLE BIKE RIDES I AM T E L L I N G YOU HE LOVES THEM
Leckie loves to take you to a nice picnic spot after a long bike ride on a hot summer day
he always brings your favorite foods, and he’ll read to you and stroke your hair while you lay your head in his lap
- [how you met]
Leckie and you were quite familiar with one another after growing up in the same neighborhood, but neither of you interacted much till you both got shipped out to the pacific
it was nice having someone you knew from home, you knew you could always go to Leckie if you needed to seek solace after feeling homesick
you had always been closer to Runner and Chuckler though, despite the fact that Chuckler had no idea what half the words you said meant
until Pavuvu at least
the bout of malaria had hit both you and Runner hard, neither of you had the ability to possibly take care of yourself
the chills had come the worst, and it was impossible for you to even hold a cup without shaking
but to your surprise, Leckie had been there right by your side, taking care of you since the beginning of your ailment
he even brushed your hair away from your face when you vomited, and he even wiped your face off with the coldest rag he could possibly find
sometimes he read to you while he rubbed your back, urging you to sleep off your sickness
the change in his behavior went unnoticed to no one
how he looked at you, the protective stance he took near you whenever an odd noise was heard, the way he gave you any extra food he could find
no one noticed more than H Company
“i’ll quit stealing smokes the day Leckie confesses”
“the Japs will get to me before Leckie realizes he’s got it bad for them”
Leckie never silenced their comments, only opting to smile and shake his head before scribbling down something in his notebook
but it had been months, and he truly hadn’t said a word
you heard the comments. one small bout of malaria wasn’t going to take out that razor sharp hearing of yours
with each passing day, you grew more disheartened
why couldn’t he see you were waiting for him to say something?
on a day like any other, Leckie had come to force you to drink what little water he had before placing another blanket on you, but he was different this time
his fingers grazed over the expose skin on your arm as he dragged up the piece of fabric over your shivering body, almost as if he was mesmerized in the way your skin felt
“Leckie?” you questioned, turning your face towards him rather than leaving it on your pillow
Leckie flashed a small smile, but said nothing, merely handing the cup of water to you
as he took it from your hands, he gently nudged your shoulder
“Lay down, get some rest” he mumbled, merely pulling the blanket back over you as he did every time
allowing your eyes to flutter shut, you opened them slightly as you felt a kiss be pressed to your temple
he had never done that before
with the soft murmur of a happy “I love you, we need to about us when we get the hell out of here” from Leckie, you allowed the exhaustion to overcome you, falling into a peaceful slumber knowing the man you trusted was by your side
