Itacho Sushi (板长寿司) is currently holding a Premium Hokkaido Scallop Festival with up to 30 per cent off their range of innovative scallop items. As a seafood lover, I can’t afford to miss this chance to savour the shellfishes. Heading to the branch at ION Orchard on a weekday morning to beat the peak lunch time crowd.

Flipping through the online menu via the tablet, I quickly zoomed in to the Scallop Sushi promotion page and started sending the items to the cart. Took a slightly longer time to decide which are the dishes I wanted as they all look equally delectable. In the meantime, scooped out a small spoonful of wasabi and poured soy sauce over it.

Didn’t have to wait for long before the first plate of sushi was served. From the left are two each of Roasted Salmon Skin Soya Sauce (S$1++ each) and Roasted Salmon Skin Soya Sauce with Cod Fish Caviar Mayo (S$1.20++ each) sushi. The salmon sushi were melt in the mouth soft and so yummy. If not because the restaurant limits each customer to just two pieces per type, I would have order it over and over again.

The three scallop sushi on the right side of the plate are Roasted Scallop Sushi (S$3.50++), Roasted Scallop with Black Truffle Sushi (S$3.90++) and Roasted Scallop with Cod Fish Caviar Sushi (S$3.70++). All three of the scallop items were so fresh and sweet tasting just like those I had in Hokkaido. The toppings on the two of the sushi enhanced the overall flavours to raise it up a notch.

The next plate I ordered is the 3 Kinds Scallop Sushi Set (S$5.80++). The scallops are un-torched and came with different toppings of tobiko mayo (seasoned flying fish roe), black truffle (paste form) and lobster salad with avocado. Again the raw scallops were just so yummy and the toppings complemented the whole package.

The last dish to be served is this Baked Scallop Spicy Salmon Mayo Egg with Rice (S$8.40++). A beautiful dish topped with six scallops, an egg and baked till golden brown. The creamy and spicy salmon mayonnaise completely covered the white rice underneath. The oozing egg yolk added a wholesome goodness to the rice dish. Even as I walked to the cashier to pay the bill, I am already planning on the next trip to try out the other dishes on the menu.

There wasn’t any exposure bias at the time of capture. In post, the backdrop had its mid-tones darkened so that the “people” might be isolated better. Colours were left as captured as I’m mostly happy with the output from the Panasonic Lumix LC-1.

🐷🐮 Mount Fuji Mixed Hotpot Set ($15.90)

Add $1 to change to all beef. Honestly, its worth the change because the pork was very ordinary and the beef was yumz. Meat was wrapped around kang kong, beansprouts and cabbage. It was quite hard cooking the ramen with the small amount of soup, but they do refill the soup upon request.

🐮 Satsuma Gyu Toro Sushi ($9.90)

Cheaper as an add on but the original price is $11.90. Comes as a set of 2. Meat has good fat marbling but rice was rather hard. ): Say bye to our plan of eating their sushi set.

🧀🥔 Aburi Rare Cheesecake Potato Salad ($7.90)

Top layer is cream cheese topped with a saltier type of cheese. They torch it in front of you. Bottom layer is mashed potatoes. The cream cheese overwhelms the potato. Perhaps a better ratio would be 1/3 cheese and 2/3 potato.

Tried a little of the wagyu hamburg ($19.90). It's juicy and tasty but also, it tastes like other hamburg steaks.

Third day

After going to Lucky Plaza, I went to Orchard, where I saw tall buildings and malls. All you will see are luxury brands when you pass Lucky Plaza. But the thing I liked most about the orchard was the 1.5-dollar Ice cream located outside Ion Orchard.

ION Orchard is a shopping mall adjacent to Orchard MRT Station. Ion Orchard is one of the malls with a beautiful layout. Even if you are outside, you will be amazed by the exterior of the mall, which offers unique experiences because of Luxury Brands such as Louis Vuitton and Prada but also has other stores such as Zara and Uniqlo.

Orchard Road is one of the best places I've been to in Singapore because there are so many beautiful and big malls there. If in the Philippines there is BGC, then there is Orchard Road.

Opened by an ex-head chef of a famous tonkatsu restaurant at ION Orchard. Maruhachi Donburi & Curry strived to sell restaurant quality teishoku sets, curry rice and donburi bowls at hawker centre prices. This is the takeaway bowl of Chicken Katsu Don that sis had. Came with crispy breaded chicken cutlet with egg over rice.

I had the Pork Katsu Curry Rice which had a sizeable piece of golden-brown breaded pork cutlet and pickled red daikon. The curry sauce is separated by partition in the bento box so you still get the crispy texture of the deep-fried pork. Both dishes are priced under S$10 each at the time of dining though prices had got up but still remain affordable.
