The way a large portion of the English FFXIV community infantilizes Alphinaud and Alisaie drives me up the wall, like I absolutely understand feeling protective of them, the story is intended to make you care about them, whether you interpret the WoL's bond with them as platonic, familial, romantic, professional, or parental, it's all fair game, yet the way some people talk about them, you'd think they were describing stupid toddlers.

They've graduated college. They drink alcohol. The first thing they do is leave home because they're legally of age and their dad can't stop them any more. Actual child characters refer to them as adults. The final expansion has them returning home after years away and saving the world where everyone that came before them fell short.

Alphinaud founds a private army and talks politics with world leaders, and everyone takes him seriously. He organizes international military actions. He negotiates trade deals with globe spanning businesses, he invents two new varieties of carbuncles just because he can. He solves a problem that has plagued the Forum for decades with a single phone call. He's potentially the smartest man alive and a skilled healer besides. There's a whole bit about how he likes mature women.

Alisaie pioneers the cure for Tempering, something everyone thought impossible for hundreds of years. She's one of the strongest mages in the world and a deft swordswoman to boot. She's practically adopted a war orphan. There's an entire short story dedicated to her mourning her dead girlfriend. When she speaks everyone shuts up and pays attention, even Zenos listens to her.

But because they're short, because Alphinaud bought a sword once, people will act like none of these things happened. People will unironically call them babies and act like the plot just moves itself, like they're tagalong kids that don't actually do anything and need grown ups to protect them. It's maddening.

#It occurred to me while I was writing this how short Alisaie's list of accomplishments is next to her brother's #and was reminded how unfair FFXIV is to Alisaie especially in Stormblood #David plays FFXIV #Alphinaud Leveilleur #Alisaie Leveilleur #Final Fantasy 14 #I see this on twitter mostly #tumblr seems to have slightly better reading comprehension in this regard #FFXIV is LITERALLY a coming of age story in that it is about the twins coming of age and taking their place in the world #and then returning home after a long journey and putting all they've learned to use #the neighborhood they grew up in is literally called JOURNEY'S END like come on

Can we PLEASE get trans protagonists In science fiction, fantasy and action movies & TV shows. Pretty please I'm begging. Can we get multiple main/major trans characters too PLEASE?

For the love of God trans rep doesn't need to be regulated to; grounded realistic contemporary dramas/comedies. Or it's a sci-fi/fantasy show but they'll be a side character in the cis MCs story and who'll have a max 10 minutes of screen time

Absolutely feral that after getting kicked from heaven and falling down for 9 whole days (and then staying burning in agony in a pit of fire down in hell for another 9 days) s.atan and his army of millions of fallen angels just crawl from the shores of hell, decide to make a hugeass palace for themselves and then discuss what the heck are they going to do now, only to come to the conclusion that the way to hurt god the most would be to destroy his newest creation (men) which from then on they can further take on earth and make it their new kingdom (bc during the council, one of the fallen angels argued that even if they made a new kingdom in hell, at the end of the day they are still essentially 'trapped' in a box, so would that even count as a triumph?)

#;ooc #ooc #;about #about #what i find most interesting is that despite the hatred and all; there are a lot of points during the story where #s.atan laments the current situation in a way;#i wish i could list them but that would take ages of revisiting OUGH #like at one point when he arrives at the garden of eden #and sees just how immensely beautiful it is (mind u he and the rest of the fallen angels have met for the first time the concept of agony #and pain when they fell from heaven) he sorts of goes through a crisis about how he laments things #but then he's like;; no no this isnt what i want what i want is POWER and basically goes like #if i cant have this no one can; and just proceeds with his plan of corruption #anyways i think the title of the universe' first sin to adress him is kinda cool title ngl #its like; as a human it makes u sort of sympathize with him but then u realize that all this guilt and stuff #isn't really coming from a greater good in his heart to want the best; it comes from greed; jealousy; hatred; pride; etc etc #or well; i dunno i found it so troubling that we can sort of understand more his logic than the logic of angels & god #there's s o much philosophy and theological debates stacked that i dont think I can properly put words into it #bc again im a baby in all of this #but it really is very interesting #like i dunno; something something about how they WANT retribution; or better said; vengeance against god #they want to inflic this new found pain back #and finding that the best solution to revindicate themselves would be to destroy his creation #that's like feral man i dunno it makes me just -HANDS ON FACE-#bc supposedly god loves his creation with all his heart so its like; to destroy that;; what would that make him feel?#and also;; if god created all angels; why did he create an angel that could feel these emotions?#that quote that went something like 'why did you create me to be flawed' AGH I CANT REMMEBER IT WELL #i know theres something about free will that is discussed a lot in the story but #its so complicated to put into words im just gonna go OUITRTROI

Fantastic Comics (1939) #1

#I chose this to start from my list of many Golden Age characters I want to read #because I was interested in reading through another character in Fantastic Comics #and because I was interested in reading another underwater-themed character #I’m really enjoying this detailed artwork by Henry Kiefer #in particular the lovely backgrounds #though I think he way he draws people and their proportions and clothing is unique too for this era #which I think are usually just a bit more simplified #I’m also impressed by the Frog Men and how the fighting scenes with them don’t shy away from drawing all of them in detail #also I don’t know what this kind of sub-genre is called #where it’s like a regular guy that’s a scientist/soldier/explorer/whatever comes across a fantastical hidden kingdom ruled by a queen #that’s how Camilla started out #also Neptina #also Don Dixon would count too though that’s a boy and a princess #the Grand Comics Database tentatively credits Toni Blum as the writer of this story but there’s no clarification on how confidently #I don’t have much to say on the writing of this so far #fox features #sub saunders #my posts #comic panels

Hey, sorry to bother you, I was wondering if you knew what had happened with the director for Cheese Sisters? I thought P'Jojo was directing? But MDL has P'Ma Deaw directing?

hiii! no bother at all :)

Short answer: yes, P’Jojo was originally meant to direct, but I guess he must have had some scheduling conflicts because of all his GMMTV shows coming out this year, so P’Ma-Deaw took over.

Longer answer: okay, so this confused me too when I first saw it but basically, back in March 2021 when BNK48 announced The Girlfriend Planner, they also announced a film called Cheese Sister directed by Ma-Deaw Chookiat. Like TGP, the original Cheese Sister movie was indefinitely delayed and had basically a year of no updates (literally the only information I found about it when I looked last autumn was that it was a family drama about cheesemaking directed by Ma-Deaw and starring BNK48′s Cherprang and Pchy Witwisit. It’s still on MDL for now, if you’re interested).

If I had to guess what happened, I would say that due to scheduling conflicts and general delays, BNK48 decided to merge the two projects into one. So we have the original GL storyline and cast of The Girlfriend Planner, but the cheesemaking setting and director of the original Cheese Sisters movie.

one thing i feel that’s missing from the people saying ‘i don’t like this genre bc of x’ and people responding ‘read better books, they’re not all like that’ is that often times those people are TRYING to read better books

but it’s not like you can go to the library and go to the “sci-fi without racism and sexism” section or “fantasy with good queer rep” section. especially with a culture that doesn’t want to “spoil” anything

#this rant brought to you by the fact that i read yet ANOTHER book that i thought was a romcom #but turned out to be a coming of age type story #i remember reading a post once #about someone wishing there were romance books where the characters ended up single #and like. i have read that book. so. many. times...#i actually hate it #i just want to pretend people can fall in love and live happily ever after for 1 freaking minute #but i am continuously disappointed #especially disappointed this time cuz it was a book with good queer rep #but my other point still stands #the barrier to finding good sci-fi and other books is hard #and i don't blame people who can't find books they like #even on those lists people make of good queer books to read #i like less than 20% of those books #so i get why people complain about there not being good books out there #cause it is ridiculously hard #this is a lot of tags #congrats to anyone that read all this lol

Several weeks ago, my retirement-age mother requested that I play Baldur’s Gate 3 for her because she has trouble with controllers/keyboards and wanted “to see what all the fuss is about with that cute wizard boy.” For context, my mother and I have done this sort of thing in the past with certain RPGs (dragon age, mass effect, etc.), but it’s been a few years since she’s personally requested a game like this. Basically, I control her Tav but let her make all the choices so she can determine how the story plays out without worrying about mechanics. She treats it like a choose-your-own-adventure book.

Anyway, here is a list of some of the things my mother has said and/or chosen to do throughout the course of BG3 in no particular order:

She is (obviously) romancing Gale. She is quite smitten with him and his passion for books and learning; she also thinks he’s polite and qualifies as “relationship material.” She also REALLY likes the things he’s said about his cat so far (my mom is a cat lady), so I know she’s gonna flip shit when we meet Tara in Act III.

She’s playing a normal druid Tav with a generally good alignment. Her favorite spell is Spike Growth because she thinks it’s hilarious whenever enemies walk into the AOE and die. I usually end up having to cast it at least once per battle per her request. Sometimes twice.

Contrary to her alignment, my mother tasks me with robbing every single chest, crate, barrel, and burlap sack we come across; this also includes people and their pockets. The party is always at max carrying capacity. ALWAYS. She doesn’t like selling things because “what if I need them.” The camp stash is in literal shambles. There is no hope of organizing it. She’s got like fifty seven sets of rags and a billion pieces of random silverware.

She MUST talk to every animal and corpse in the game. I think five hours of her total playtime so far (47ish) has been spent speaking to animals as many times as humanly possible. Like, I was thorough in my own playthroughs, but this is on a whole other level.

She did NOT get Volo’s lobotomy, but she did let Auntie Ethel take her eye in hopes of a cure for the tadpole. I did not understand the logic then. I still do not understand it now.

She is far more interested in fashion than equipment stats. Do you have any idea how much gold I’ve had to spend on dyes just to make things match? SO much. Same vibe as that “please someone help me balance my finances my family is starving” tweet but instead of candles it’s thirty thousand fucking bottles of black and furnace red dye.

We broke the prisoners out of Moonrise, but they got on the boat too early and bugged the fight by leaving Astarion and Karlach behind. Wulbren Bongle somehow got stuck in combat mode even after engaging the cutscene on the docks below Last Light; he he kept trying to run ALL THE WAY BACK TO MOONRISE nine fucking meters at a time while I frantically tried to finish the fight with the Warden, otherwise Wulbren would have run straight into the shadow curse. (I would’ve let him go; fuck Wulbren Bongle, all my homies hate Wulbren Bongle. But my mom didn’t know that, and she wanted to keep him safe. So.)

She had me reload a save like eighteen times to save the giant eagles on top of Rosymorn Monastery. Wouldn’t even let me do non-lethal damage just to get past things. I think getting that warhammer for the dawnmaster puzzle took us like an hour and a half alone. (Yes, I know you can use any warhammer, but SHE didn’t.)

She’s started keeping an irl notebook to keep track of her quests between play sessions. She writes down ideas and strategies when she thinks of them during the week, then brings them to her next game session at my house. I think she wrote about three pages on possible approaches to the goblin fortress alone.

She insists that I pet Scratch and the owlbear cub before every single long rest, no exceptions. Sometimes I have to do it multiple times until she is absolutely sure that the animals know exactly how much she loves and cherishes them. She has also commissioned a crocheted owlbear plush from a friend of hers and is very excited.

I’m sure there’s a bunch of stuff I’m forgetting, but those are some fun things I thought of. She’s enjoying the game and is telling all of her retired friends to get it and play it for themselves. She asked me “what is Discord” yesterday and I think my life flashed before my eyes.
