This is kind of an old anecdote by this point, but it feels Tumblr-worthy. So after my sister and I saw Taylor Swift this past May, we were telling our dad about it and something to this effect happened.

Sis: I honestly wish she hadn't done "Cruel Summer" so early on, I barely remember it because I was just freaking out so much. But it was so good!!

Dad: Does... does she cover a Bananarama song? That's surprising

It seriously baffles me that Dylan Mulvaney constantly gets told she's "not really a trans woman - she just wants fame and attention" by the same people who are consistently tearing her and every other trans person down.

Who would come out as trans for attention when there are a ridiculous amount of people who give trans people nothing but negative attention - literal harassment and d*ath threats?

And not only is there that, but Dylan is told she's misogynistic, that she's mocking and tearing down cisgender women's womanhood, all because she dresses very femininely and likes feminine things, and she embraces that in her TikToks.

As someone who grew up afab, liking some stereotypical girly things, I was made fun of in school and by my own family for being so over the top. And you watch just about any movie that takes place in a high school, the hyperfeminine girls are always play the role of the "mean girl". Girls are picked apart if they fit the feminine stereotype, but truly, there's nothing wrong with liking things that are seen as very feminine. It's very sad to see hyperfeminine girls get teased for "fitting into that stereotype/box".

And on top of both those things, Dylan is also told she's acting like she's a child because she often uses the term "girl" and (for example) has bought herself dolls. But the term "girl" is universal for both women and younger girls. She's not trying to imply that she thinks she's a young girl. And when she does silly little things like frolicking with high heels on and playing with dolls, she's trying to embrace the girlhood she never had, as an adult now. She wants to do those things now that she has the ability to transition into the girl she's always been.

The reason that she's gotten so much positive attention (aside from just the negative) is because she's not afraid to be herself. She handles the hateful comments so maturely and has made it known she never means to tear down other women. It's sad how many people think she's awful, and that it's mostly out of hate towards trans women - women who are consistently targeted.

I appreciate her as a person and figured I'd say something uplifting through all this hate she's getting.
