Cleaning for Clarity
Howdy guys!
I’m so excited to start this blog with you all! I have so many things in store to share with you! I’d like to first properly introduce myself. Which, in my hopes, will help you get to know me on another level & see why I do the things I do.
I wasn’t always a housekeeper. Ten years ago I was a master nail technician. I won awards and was featured in magazines for my art multiple times. I even taught others in the field as well. At the height of my career I unfortunately had a four wheeling accident that led me to develop cervical dystonia.
Cervical Dystonia is a rare, incurable muscle and neurological disorder that causes tremors, muscle spasms and the incapacity to move in certain ways. This unfortunately led to the end of my career as a nail technician. Fortunately though, with the treatments of Botox I have improved in certain areas. Although I can no longer do small detailed work like before, this has led to me becoming mentally stronger.
In my early twenties, before becoming a nail technician, I worked cleaning houses around the area that I was living in. What was initially done for extra cash, was about to resurface again in my life, but this time I saw it with a new clarity. A different set of eyes you could say. Because I was about to experience it first hand.
I remember when I originally started doing “extreme cleans”, I would wonder to myself how anyone could live that way. I know that sounds horrible to say but I was young and didn’t see things for what they were. I couldn’t grasp it thoroughly because I looked at it more as a way to earn extra income. I didn’t see the people, I didn’t hear the stories. I was in and out and often hired by someone who didn’t share the details. However, after I was diagnosed with Cervical Dystonia, I found myself being extremely broken mentally. I started to decline in taking care of myself and almost completely gave up on my life. The last thing I thought about was cleaning. I was just thinking about how to not give up.
And then it just clicked. As much as this was tragic for me, it also humbled me. I thought about all those people that I had helped before. I was in their shoes now. And I stopped and looked around, and I was there, too. That is when I realized that I wanted to not just help people but I wanted to really make a difference. Being properly trained in chemicals, sanitation and disinfection, paired with my knowledge of self management from my nail tech career, I made the decision to start a new path. One of self healing while healing others. I no longer just empathize, I sympathize.
When I started Tidy Texans in 2015, I knew I just didn’t want to be a “housekeeper”. I wanted to be someone that made a difference in people's lives. And while cleaning homes, I’m also cleansing not only their mental health but my own.
In my next series of posts, I’ll be discussing one of our pro bono cases and how Tidy Texans will be introducing a new roll out on an old policy. We’re thrilled for this and I’m even more thrilled to share it with you. So please stay tuned.

Nails Nails Nails!
I never thought I would grow up to be as obsessed over my nails as I currently am! I used to be a nail biter who only knew of cheap drug store nail polish, and nothing about cuticle oils and creams!
Years later...I wouldn't even recognize my old hands! Being in the industry I have learned so much valuable knowledge while also seeing first-hand what a lot of people outside of the industry do not know. Whether it's from the lack of time to research, the intimidating amount of information already on the web, or general misinformation, I have seen that a lot of people want to have healthy and strong nails but have no idea where to start.
This is where I would like my blog to come in and help people out! As a licensed nail technician, I want to help people have good maintenance habits at home and learn how to protect their nails in-between their manicure and pedicure services! Knowing what products to use, and methods of care and protection go a long way with nail health.

The International School of Skin, Nail Care & Massage Therapy has a history of being a leader in the industry for training qualified Estheticians and Nail Technicians. The School offered the first Nail Care classes in February, 1985 in Atlanta, Georgia and was the first state-approved School for Nail Care training in Georgia. In June 1987, the School achieved national accreditation by what is now known as The Council on Occupational Education (COE). In June 1988, the Skincare/Esthetician program was added. The School became the first in the United Stated to be nationally accredited for skin and nail care training exclusively. In 2008, the School added the Massage Therapy program to compliment the other programs and respond to a growing job market in the beauty and wellness industry.
The School’s enrollment is a mix of international students as well as students from other parts of the United States and is a culturally diverse population. Over the years, the School has provided graduates for the beauty and wellness industry to the employers in Georgia as well other States and countries. The School’s graduates span approximately 25 States and approximately 10 countries, plus a variety of travel and resort locations.
The School is recognized internationally for quality training, knowledgeable and credentialed faculty. The credentials of each educator can be found in this School Catalog. Some of the ISSNMT instructors are C.I.D.E.S.C.O. Diplomats or ITEC certified. The CIDESCO diploma is recognized as the most advanced certification in the field of Esthetics and Beauty Therapy in the world. Those who have achieved this standard are indeed valuable as they have the ability to not only analyze the skin but the body as well. The skin is a reflection of the state of the body as well as lifestyle and diet. A CIDESCO diplomat has the ability to diagnose skin problems based on training in Anatomy and Physiology. Another important element of the training is in the chemicals and product content, and how best to treat a skin condition.
At the heart of the School’s history has been the consistent and effective training for marketable skills in the beauty and wellness industry to an ever changing student population and employer needs.
