what it's like to hug the Strawhats
inspired by this poll, I decided to write down my opinions on getting a hug from all the Strawhats! with invaluable input from sweet bean @loverboysanji <3
Luffy - Luffy is perpetually impatient about SOMETHING and trying to get a nice friendly hug from him is like wrestling with an excitable terrier. that said, he runs at like a million degrees so every hug is also extremely warm and cosy and leaves you with a bit of fever in your skin, however long it lasts.
Zoro - Zoro gives nice hugs I guess but he smells a bit rank sometimes, so what time of the week you hug him (i.e. the time between his infrequent showers) is on your own head (and nose)... though if you're a freak like me you'll be burying your face in his armpit either way. he's also pretty soft despite his hardened muscular appearance, and being wrapped up in his arms feels comfy and safe.
Sanji - I've hugged guys like Sanji in the past. there's no purchase. he's all bones and angles. he tries, though.
Nami - Nami's hugs boob most breastily, and in my opinion she gives the BEST hugs of all the Strawhat crew. she understands the emotional resonance that a long hug can have (instilled by Bellemere, and all those years Arlong loomed over her that real hugs were few and far between), and she wants it to feel nice for you. she'll pet your hair and rub your back and say comforting words into your hair as you rest your head on her freckled shoulder. depression? cured. what I wouldn't GIVE for a hug from Nami.
Robin - the hugs most likely to calm you down - the kind of hugs that strip every worry from your mind - the kind of hugs that feel like being rocked to sleep by the sea. she'll place one warm hand on the back of your head and you'll feel so steady and understood, and it's just like magic.
Usopp - Usopp's hugs are very nice, though if you hold him for too long he'll start to feel a little awkward. they're a fleeting kind of thing; until you get to know him better, that is. once you do he's a lot like Nami, with less boob.
Franky - like hugging a dishwasher, or a fridge. he can however LIFT you to cling around his neck, and the vibes that surround that guy are so positive it's impossible not to grin like a little idiot when he sets you down.
Brook - science classroom skeleton hug. and maybe he won't show it to you, but he's thinking about having flesh and skin and warmth and he's desperate to have that back if only for a moment, just to give you the hug he knows you deserve.
Jinbe - he's gotta be careful not to squeeze too hard, and he's got a kind of damp, clammy, slightly rough feeling to him that might unsettle some, but by god hugging Jinbe would be like finally getting the hug you always wanted from your dad.
Chopper - why do so many of us keep plushies well into adulthood? yeah? you get it.
