As someone who has watched Black Lightning, it is somehow incredibly funny to me that Gambi is just... the tailor of supervillains in comic canon? All the Rogues come to him to get their costumes and to get them fixed if they get damaged.
But it’s amazing to me that he just... advertises that? By putting the very supervillain costumes he made into his display?? Like? Sir, you are working for supervillains do you not think you might attract attention from the Flash or the cops or both by putting well-known villain costumes into the front of your shop?

Note
Peter Gambi keeps up with met gala fashion. Though his heavy pickiness and critique as well as adoration leads Jefferson Pierce to take the long way to the shop when Gambi watches. Advising the same to the girls until Anissa and Grace decided to join in.

Black Lightning 1×02/1×03: “Lawanda: The Book of Hope” + “Lawanda: The Book of Burial”
Jefferson’s a very interesting character so far. As a teacher and a father, he’s morally upright, has high standards, and tries to keep the youth on the straight and narrow. While he clearly cares about his community, he is also notably removed from them due to his power, privilege, and endless connections. He tried to make Garfield a paradise amongst the gangs, drugs, and violence in Freeland (while also making deals with the gangs themselves). He raised his daughters on Civil Rights quotes, but chafes when they use them to refute his arguments.
He believed in the idea that he could live behind a white picket fence away from all those dangers on the news – that he could shield his students from the realities of the outside world.
Furthermore, he’s a selfish hero. He didn’t become Black Lightning with the intention of saving Freeland. It was to avenge his father’s death. And throughout these few episodes, he has consistently put his daughters and his family before everyone else. Nowhere is this more prominent than when Lawanda calls out Black Lightning for only saving his kids when her daughter was also in the 100 motel.
And he had the naivety to believe that after busting a few heads, the whole ring would just be shut down. What fantasy land are you living in?
But I love that this return to the hero/vigilante scene is such a wakeup call for him. This is a community that holds its heroes accountable for their actions, demands and expects more from him, that is openly warning him not to get their hopes up if he’s not going to deliver. Jefferson as Black Lightning is such an interesting dichotomy because in many ways, he’s the people’s champion. He’s Freeland’s very own Black superhero, a known ally and icon who defies the system and brings hope to the Black community. He’s cocky, heavy-hitting, owns every room he walks into. He’s a local celebrity who makes everyday citizens leap at the prospect of helping him. He’s Black Jesus!
But at the same time, he is still so out of touch. This is the first superhero show I’ve seen where flinging bad guys around is not enough; where huge systemic issues are not solved overnight; where everyone doesn’t just go home to their happy, dandy household at the end of the day and pat themselves on the back for a job well done. The job is never done and sometimes his intervention only makes things worse.
The corruption and gang violence runs deep in Freeland. Jefferson’s out here fighting smoke while the fire is under the foundation, destroying the building from the ground up. He’s out here fighting shadows while the real masterminds are pulling the strings behind the scenes. He doesn’t realize how tangled this web is yet and he’s in over his head. This is not the same Freeland as it was when he was Black Lightning nine years ago and he’s stumbling along blind. (Gambi is not doing anything to remedy that, either.)
Jefferson’s awareness is also lacking at home with his girls. Both Anissa and Jennifer have been through multiple traumatic experiences with the 100 in the space of maybe a few weeks and we haven’t seen a single sit-down moment between him and either of them. How is it that he can save them from the motel, but not accompany them home afterwards? How can he grill Jennifer about quitting track when her boyfriend is in the hospital with a severe spinal injury? Every time a friend or colleague asks about how the girls are doing, he says they’re fine. But they’re not fine. You have no idea what’s going on in their lives. Anissa has freaking superpowers! Wake up, man!

DC Masterlist
Tumblr media
MISC
The misc masterlist will feature characters I don’t plan to write about often. That list will be created eventually, but as of now we’ll just focus on the masterlists below!
-
→ Titans
This list includes characters from the 2018 series Titans. Works about Dick Grayson and/or Kory Anders will frequent more, but I do still write about Conner Kent, Gar Logan, Rachel Roth, Donna Troy, and Jason Todd. You can request other characters such as Hawk and Dove, Tim Drake, or Blackfire but they will be in the misc masterlist.
→ The Losers
This list includes characters such as (Jake) Jensen, Carlos “Cougar” Alvarez, (Franklin) Clay, (William) Roque, Linwood “Pooch” Porteous, and Aisha Al-Fadhil.
→ Black Lightning
This list includes characters such as Jennifer Pierce, Anissa Pierce, Lynn Stewart, Grace Choi, Jefferson Pierce, Khalil Payne, Issa Williams, and Peter Gambi.
→ Justice League
This masterlist includes Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ezra Miller’s Flash, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Ben Affleck’s Batman and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman!
→ Young Justice
Including characters from the 2010 DC cartoon show Young Justice. Including characters such as Conner Kent (Superboy), Wally West (Kid Flash), Robin/Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Kaldur’ahm (AquaLad), Karen Beecher (Bumblebee), Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle), and Virgil Hawkins (Static Shock).
→ My Adventures With Superman
Here I will write about Clark Kent/Superman. If you would like anything written about Lois Lane or Jimmy Olsen, you can request it but it will go in the misc masterlist.
→ Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
I really only planned to write about Clark Kent/Superman, Jack Milner and Jimmy Olsen but you can request works about other characters. If I fulfill your request, those works will go into the misc masterlist.
→ Smallville
Okay, you caught me! I haven’t actually watched the show yet. I’ve only seen short clips. For now, I only plan to write about Clark Kent. This list may possibly be updated after I watch the show.
