On today’s edition of “things that existed when Dracula was written” we have the S.P.C.A. who are, presumably, drinking their Coca-Cola while trying to take pictures of Dracula the mysterious dog using their Kodak cameras.
Laura Boisvert has had her four-year-old Samoyed, called Mama Bear, since it was a puppy.
She rents her apartment and, according to her, before the dog was allowed she had to promise her landlord that she’d bring Mama Bear and her other dog to work with her.
“For him to know that they weren’t going to bark during the day or that they weren’t going to do damage to the apartment,” she explained.
She’s lucky, but pet advocates say too many Quebec tenants aren’t.
That’s why, as moving season approaches, the Montreal SPCA and Québec solidaire are urging the provincial government to ban no-pet clauses in residential lease agreements. [...]
Educational Ambassador Eastern Box Turtle Rio struck a dramatic pose for kids at the Roanoke Valley SPCA! Rio is non-releasable and cannot be returned to the wild, but she has a wonderful job educating children and adults about the importance of wildlife!

Always happy to partner with the Florida Keys SPCA in helping out a Ball Python that was found outside of a laundry room at Porter Place and brought to our center. Thanks to the SPCA and Animal Control Officer Conni for picking up what is most likely an escaped pet and getting the snake safely into care. Thanks to all involved!
Can you spare a (free) vote to help the NWT SPCA earn $1?
For just this weekend only, My Giving Circle will donate $1 for each new person that votes for the NWT SPCA as their favourite charity! This is the shelter I volunteer at, and every kennel they have is full now.
They serve communities in both the NWT and Nunavut, where in many small, remote communities opportunities to get your pet spayed or neutered was limited even before the pandemic saw shortages of vets and reduced ability to travel in for clinics. They even board community dogs while they wait to be able to get into the vet here. Their staff is awesome, putting in so many hours and they also rely a lot on volunteers to help, especially now. Every dollar helps, given the number of dogs and cats they ensure are fed, have their medical needs met, have the right kinds of collars, etc. (The love and attention they provide for free!)
All votes will contribute to the NWT SPCA’s chance to win a share of $75,000 of grants on September 30.This special offer for new voters will be on until midnight this Sunday, September 4th! I’d love if you can spare a (free) vote even once to help them get a little extra in funding, and feel free to boost.
You can vote for free at : mygivingcircle.org/nwt-spca/vote
Here are some cute dogs pics from my volunteering, to sweeten the pot!
I’ve had Milo the longest out of all of my current horses. I adopted him from the SPCA as a 2 year old and since then, have done just about everything with him! He is now 10 years old.
Milo is assumed to be a Thoroughbred cross but his pedigree is unknown since he was a rescue case. He’s 16.2hh and is a bit of a miracle as he was so emaciated at 2 years of age, he was thought to be a yearling and vets didn’t think he’d catch up in growth in the way he has.
Milo has taught me a lot about compassion and learning how to train more ethically and is one of the most expressive horses I’ve ever met.
