why am I trying to design and model the interior/mechanisms of an entire gun for a project I'm probably not going to finish

#looking at things like the keltec rdb and steyr aug and knight's assault LAMG #(ripping the rdb's trigger package/fire control because apparently the rdb has a really good trigger for a bullpup #and the KA LAMG for the constant recoil system) #also making it an ETC gun with the firing pin having a piezoelectric cap #which generates the charge to ignite the round's plasma igniter when the hammer hits it #trying to figure out how to fit a really long recoil spring into a bullpup is interesting #also either maya's human basemesh or whatever has really oversized hands or I'm losing it

Are any of my mutuals here very familiar with the Steyr AUG? My buddy has one and yesterday it was giving him a lot of trouble. We put 4 mags of ammo through it with several different brands of ammo and it didn't cycle one round properly.

When we started the bolt was stopping about 90% back by the end of the session the bolt wasn't cycling at all. If you pulled the charging handle it cycled perfectly so I think it's a problem with the gas system.

If it was a gas leak I would think after a hundred rounds it would blast a hole in the plastic stock. Best I can come up with is a clog in the gas system that got progressively worse.

It was a pretty low round count. I don't think he put 300 rounds through it before yesterday's outing. I'm not sure if that's enough carbon buildup to lead to this kind of failure but I can't think of any other culprit.
