Imagine killing your beloved with your own hands while thinking youre both world hopping transmigrators so you'll see each other again after you finish your mission but it turns out that your beloved was not a transmigrator but was essentially a glitch stuck to that world
And then you do everything in your power to reboot the world just to be there for that person but it's too late and your beloved remembers everything including all the betrayals and ways you hurt them just to finish the mission in the past life and now he doesn't hate you oh no he's just indifferent to you and the love he had for you is gone

Zerofuku as forgotten queen adopted him under her wing, he realizes she sacrifice to ever finding her son to make everyone happy
With determination he found her son playing happily with other children
A reunion between mother and son as she cries hard as she hold them close and open her arms to Zero as a gesture saying he's her son as well and she loves them both
-You could still see him, your baby, your only child, your son, smiling up at you, calling out to you, all those years ago. You smiled softly as you thought of him, how sweet and caring he was, the perfect future king.
-You also remembered how his father tried to kill you before taking your throne, taking your son away, trying to turn him into a violent, evil person.
-You took back your throne, earning it back the hard way, but to you, it meant nothing as you cradled your son’s dead body, weeping quietly. Your husband had killed your son in an attempt to make you halt your siege, but it made you go harder, taking his head.
-When you came to Valhalla, you looked around often for your son, praying he had been sent to Valhalla as well, but with each passing day, each year without seeing or holding your child, you began to lose hope.
-You had a new son, Zerofuku, who could never replace your son, C/N, he became a light in your world, bringing your smile back, even just a bit.
-Zerofuku learned of your son, learning what had happened to him and he wept for you, for C/N, to hear how cruelly a child had been treated and cut down by a coward of a man.
-Zerofuku knew how much you missed your son, even if you never said it out loud, he could see you watching the children playing, hope in your eyes that you might one day find C/N.
-He knew that when you were alive, you had to be strong, reclaiming your kingdom, leading your people to prosperity once again, until you were snuffed out, but not without taking some of the bastards with you.
-Zerofuku left you a note when you went looking for him, telling you that he was going to look for something and he would be home later, before he went to Buddha to enlist his help to find C/N!
-As the son began to set, you started to worry for Zerofuku, not wanting him to be out late, and when you went to head out to go and look for him, you froze in the doorway.
-There, walking up the path to your home, was Zerofuku, beaming brightly, holding the hand of a child, C/N, who was also beaming, the two of them singing a song they had heard.
-You felt like you couldn’t breathe, your heart felt like it stopped as your eyes went wide, your voice catching in your throat.
-The two saw you and C/N’s eyes went wide, “Mama!!” before running to you.
-You fell to your knees, unable to take even a single step as he leapt into you, wrapping his arms around you. It was truly him, as the tears welled in your eyes, and you finally embraced him, your eyes closing as you let out a sob, clutching your son tightly, overcome with joy.
-Zerofuku knew, even though you were crying, you were happy, which made him happy as he wandered over, wanting to ask you if you were happy with him.
-He froze as you lifted a hand to him, reaching out to him, your teary eyes meeting his own as you smiled and as he kneeled you cupped his cheek before sliding it to the back of his head, pulling him into you as well, hugging him close.
-Zerofuku had somehow convinced himself that you wouldn’t need him anymore, now that he had brought C/N home, but as you pulled back, you smiled at the both of them, “Come in, dinners waiting, my sons.”
-Zerofuku teared up, hearing that you weren’t making him leave, you still wanting him too as they both nodded, taking your offered hands and you led them inside to have the first of many family meals together.

I've been seeing some confusion about what it is that Phaya and Tharn have done in their past lives to deserve punishment now - or in what possible way they have wronged others and are now "reaping bad karma".
I've also seen the theory that the venerable Luang Por might be the reincarnation of the naga that wanted to be a monk... which is actually a really touching possibilty because the story about the naga monk does exist. You can find in in the Vinaya (Mv.I.63.1) but here is a condensed version:
... Once a Naga, a powerful serpent who can take the form of a human being, was mistakenly ordained as a monk. Shortly after, when asleep in his hut, the naga returned to the shape of a huge snake. The monk who shared the hut was somewhat alarmed when he woke up to see a great snake sleeping next to him! The Lord Buddha summoned the naga and told him he may not remain as a monk, at which the utterly disconsolate snake began to weep. The snake was given the Five Precepts as the means to attaining a human existence in his next life when he can then be a monk. Then out of compassion for the sad snake, the Lord Buddha said that from then on all candidates for the monkhood be called 'Naga' as a consolation. They are still called 'Naga' to this day.
*by Ajahn Brahm
So if the naga by following the Five Precepts is reborn as a human being he can then be a monk. 🥺🙏
As for Phaya and Tharn's karma - it's not so much that they've done something morally wrong. It's more that by their intentional actions they have wronged Chalothorn and this is what leads to the consequences we've seen. It makes more sense if you don't view karma as a direct result or as punishment/judgement, but rather as a cause and effect that's not really for us to understand.
I also think it's more important here that Chalothorn's continuous intentional actions are the cause of his own downfall (and that of Phaya and Tharn), while the venerable Luang Por states: "Remember, your [Phaya and Tharn's] good deeds and merits will always protect you."

Okay, okay okay… I’ve had a little headcannon rattling around my head for awhile now…
AND I NEEEEEED TO SHARE IT!!!😆
Okay SO, Ao Lie is referenced as being a “young Dragon” right??
Well what if he’s actually the Dragon equivalent of a Teenager? Meaning he’s literally a traumatized child! (Because apparently his dad was totally okay with Ao being sentenced to death by the Jade dumb-dumb) and this realization makes reader unlock the most terrifying ability possible… Parental RAGE!! 😈
I could seriously imagine reader just going absolutely Apeshit on some poor soul, who thought they could get Tcherpitaka by targeting his “horse”.
She’s all like: “HOW! FUCKING! DARE YOU!!! You think it’s acceptable to attack kids!?! Do you! DO YOU!!! Well guess what pal, I’m gonna make sure you NEVER have children of your own!!”
The lowly demon: crying, shaking, and curled on the floor… “I-I’m s-sorry.. p-please, have m-mercy..”😭
Sun Wukong: … (possibly, slightly turned on)😏
Brought to you by the musings of a Pumpkin.. 🎃
I fucking love this headcanon. Your mind is a truly beautiful place Pumpkin.
Alternatively tho~ I see your reader threatening a random demon and raise you reader threatening Ao Run the Dragon King of the Western fuckin Sea:
It was no secret that after finding out that Ao Lie was essentially the dragon equivalent of a teenager you had become protective of the former death row convict. You couldn't believe that any parent would willingly send their child off to their demise over some property damage. Even if the property in question was a bunch of magical pearls.
Over time, you became something of a mother figure to the young dragon. Making sure he didn't overwork himself. Pushing him to pursue hobbies and further his education. And doting on him in general. Ao Lie soaked up every bit of praise and didn't miss a single opportunity to rub it in the other disciples' faces. Especially Wukong, who silently grew more and more jealous with every interaction between you and the prince. "Why the hell can't you stroke my fur like that," he'd pout quietly to himself.
And then one day, the group ended up in the Dragon Palace of the Western Sea, and all hell proceeded to break loose. The moment you laid eyes on the Dragon King himself you shouted, "YOU!"
"Oh no," lamented Tripitaka.
"You son of a bitch!" You pointed at Ao Run. Wukong slapped his hand over his mouth to stop from bursting out laughing while Tripitaka began to silently weep, both Bajie and Wujing gasped and stared wide eyed at you in disbelief, and Ao Lie's—who was in dragon form—jaw hit the floor.
"Pardon me—"
"Shut up," you cut off the king causing the massive dragon to scoff in indignation, and that sound alone made Wukong unable to hold his laughter back any further. Tripitaka let out a sob and fell to the floor with his head in his hands. Bajie ran to grab you. Wujing tried to apologize. Lie shrunk in on himself in look as small as possible, hoping to avoid his father's wrath.
"You bitches shut up too," you yelled at the gang and slapped Bajie across the face when he tried to clamp his hand over your mouth, "And don't touch me!"
At this point, Wukong was rolling on the floor as Bajie stumbled to hide behind Wujing while holding his abused cheek, and Tripitaka was praying to Buddha to be merciful to his soul when he meets his gruesome demise.
The young woman simply ignored her companions and proceeded to ring out the Dragon King of the Western Sea for his awful parenting methods for the next hour.
By the end, Ao Lie had begun crying and took a half human form to hug you. You gently patted the young prince on the back, glaring at his father, who was looking rather ashamed by now. The Dragon King hung his head while his entire court watched in awe as you chewed him out. The king wouldn't admit it, but you were getting heated to the point that he was worried you'd insure he'd never have another child to mistreat again.
Wukong had sat down to get a more comfortable view of the show but also to hide that he was just a little bit aroused by your protective nature. He couldn't help but wonder what your thoughts on children were.

In the Shadowpeach route of my "Reincarnated LBD" au idea; basically Macaque ends up "holding on to" the wild unreincarnated soul of LBD while the gang tries to figure out what to do within the 49 days timeframe (called "bardo" in buddism) before the soul forcibly zooms buddha knows where onto the next life.
Except there's some little bumps in the road as Mac and Wukong are starting to reconcile...
Namely a pair of shadow spirits that see all this talk of New Souls and want to be born too! With some added magic aborbed from both Macaque and Wukong, the former-clones figure it out!
Macaque: *wakes up one morning*
Rumble & Savage: *are fresh baby monkeys sleeping against his stomach*
Macaque: "Eh???"
Macaque shows up on FFM demanding child support + cuddles. Wukong is shocked but adoring of their surprise twins.
By the end of 49 days, in combination of caring for a pair of super adorable baby monkeys + the rekindling of a romance thought lost, Macaque and Wukong decide; "Hey, we'll just keep the new soul. One more baby is no big deal."
Cue them creating Yuebei Xing in the LMK canonverse.
The immortal-killing daughter of Sun Wukong.
Heaven weeps.

When I look at the names of the characters the writers of Slow Damage pay attention to the characters they are writing, they put so much into the characters including their names.
I know I did posts about them before but looking at them the names that the writers choose match their characters too well.
Towa’s real name “Haruto” notes how Maya views her son, as a toy to mold and customize to her liking.
her fake name "Maya" notes Maya’s god complex that she exhibits in the game. Maya in religion is considered the holy mother since Maya is the one who gave birth to Buddha hence she is the holy mother the equivalent of the Virgin Mary.
Maya views herself as a god and has delusions of grandeur and followers that support that idea which is shown in the name.
Fujieda’s surname means “Wisteria branches” Wisteria flower trees are known to be powerful and strong and can withstand any harsh weather This references how Fujieda steels himself for trail and trabulation to climb out of the hell hole. Also, fujieda’s armor conveys someone perfect and immaculate like a strong tree completely perfect and unmovable. the way that the branches of Wisteria droop represent weeping can infer how Fujieda lived a tragic fraught with pain.
It might reference his armor and having a fake name that matches it but also the tree symbolizes resilience to live despite the pain which matches Fujieda well in the game.
His real surname Yuzuki comes from Yuzu a type of citrus fruit, Yuzu tastes bitter and sour this references the pain in Fujieda's past.
They are also fruits that are healthy and promote well-being, Fujieda in contrast Towa lives a healthier lifestyle and has a much better mind space. But it can reference to how he helps Towa with his healing process from his past.
the color of Yuzu yellow means happiness and positivity this can Fujieda to become a happier person due to his affection for Towa.

Blackthorne : Legs, fire hurt, bad? Fuji : No. Sorry. But it still hurts to sit. Legs hurt. So sorry. Blackthorne : Please show me. Fuji : Please, Anjin-san, I don't wish to trouble you. Blackthorne : No trouble. You are consort, neh? He inspect the wounds and pleased to see her healing quickly.
Blackthorne : Doctor very good. Buddha watch Fujiko-san.
He puts his hands on her shoulders and looked into her eyes.
Blackthorne : No worry now. Shigata ga nai, neh? You understand? Her tears spilled. He gave her a hug. Blackthorne : Now no weep. Order!
He sent the maid for fresh cha and many cushions to help her recline on them, as much as at first it embarrassed her to obey. Fuji : How can I ever thank you? Blackthorne : No. Give back. He thought for a moment but he couldn't remember the word for 'favor'. He held up his fists mimicking pistols and pointing them. Blackthorne: Omi-san, remember? The first official promotion song for 2ha novel called "when haitang flowers fall again in the light rain" (海棠又落微雨時) came out recently, I loved it so translated the lyrics:
in past life I was the god of war sneering at the loneliness of the mortal realm
In this life I'm the Buddha fallen into the cycle of reincarnations burning in its suffering
If like trees and grass you know not the pain of love
Then why turn back and weep about both love and hate wearing thin
You sigh, saying that the falling of haitang flowers is inevitable
What can you do when it was all a good dream and never real?
Heavy snow covered the long steps and you pleaded piously
To be granted a few lifetimes of entangling your fate with his
Three thousand steps speak not
About lifetimes of being together and apart
The memories are troubled by trials and miseries - that's why it's deep, that's why I remember with all my being
Flowers bloom and I forget my sadness; flowers fall and it adds to my sorrow
Who is it that lingers in this place?
When I dispel sorrow from my heart, it only reappears on my face
The stubborness that persist through cycles of reincarnations
Has no regard for the romances and grievances of the past
All of a sudden, snow covers the world
In the light rain, when the haitang flowers fall again, there I will wait for you
See the slanting rain silently weaving my loneliness
My eyes are filled with sorrow, yet for what?
My blood-stained hands hold you tightly
To keep you by my side
When haitang flowers bloom, I recall kissing your cheek
I dreamt of walking down the corridor and the long steps, only desolation strewn across the ground
That year, the days were too long
That year, the wind was howling
Forget not the moment we embraced each other

Lok Chitrakar Paubha The form of Avalokiteshvara favored by the Tibetans has a thousand arms, a thousand eyes (in his open palms), and eleven heads. He is said to have acquired these many arms and heads as a result of his frustration with the Tibetans. The story begins when Avalokiteshvara was dwelling in Sukhavati, the Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha, where everything was wonderfully peaceful. Feeling quite confident and expansive, Avalokiteshvara decided to go down to Tibet to help it become a civilized, nonviolent nation. He vowed to Amitabha: “If I should ever get discouraged down there, working with those barbaric Tibetans, may my body be shattered into a thousand pieces.” Then he descended, and for several lifetimes he meditated in the mountains upon boundless compassion, continually emanating waves of love.In those days the Tibetans were powerful warriors who had conquered much of Central Asia. They also loved to have a good time and eat great quantities of yak meat. In the traditional language of Buddhism, they were difficult to tame. After many lifetimes, Avalokiteshvara began to be aware that such deeply ingrained tendencies are not easily pacified. Just emanating waves of love does not do the trick—violence somehow persists. Offer food to a hungry demon, and he responds by starting to eat your arm. In a moment when Avalokiteshvara was not guarding his mind, he thought: “These evil, violent Tibetans are insatiable. No matter how peaceful and loving I am, it has no effect.” He became a bit discouraged and wept, they say, two tears. From each tear a goddess was born, one white and one green—the two forms of Tara. The two goddesses said, “Stop weeping, we’ll help you. Please calm yourself.” And their words indeed calmed him down for a lifetime or two. At last, however, he became truly discouraged, and in that moment his body was instantly shattered into bits. Then one of the fragments of the bodhisattva cried out in despair to Amitabha Buddha for help. Amitabha came down to the place where Avalokiteshvara’s pieces were strewn about the mountain. In typical guru fashion, he looked down at the broken bodhisattva and said, “What’s your problem? Who ever told you to take such an ambitious vow? What have you done to yourself? You know, you should always be careful about what you wish for, because—whatever it is, good or bad—sooner or later you will get it.” Then Amitabha blessed the bodhisattva, and the thousand pieces became an imposing figure with a thousand arms, a thousand eyes, and eleven heads.Thousand armed Avalokitesvara bodhisattva

brain is exploding, tumblr box taKE MY THOUGHTS-
Long Shadows LMK au-
Basically, when Wukong got dragged to the Celestial Realm to be executed? Yeah, Macaque- mostly referred to as Liu'er or "Liu"- got dragged with him.
The Celestial Court tried to execute Wukong in many, many ways. They failed.
Liu, however, was not seven times over immortal. They... "succeeded."
Wukong was forced to watch as his best friend was executed right before he was stuffed into the furnace. Due to his weeping eyes as the king had been crying over the body of his friend, the resulting steam inflicted far more damage than in the original story we know.
In fact, instead of gaining his true sight, Wukong was terribly blinded.
Not that that stopped him from going on a rampage through the Celestial Realm, or inevitably being stuffed under a mountain. (Wukong could not see to escape Buddha's hand, and ended up crashing into his fingers.)
So, blinded and grieving, there Wukong laid.
...and then he slowly thought himself becoming mad, as with each passing day he could hear his best friend's voice in more and more clarity.
However, he was not going mad. For you see, Liu, in an act of sheer desperation, stuffed the entirety of himself within his core to survive the murder of his physical body. He became an actual living shadow of himself, and it took some time before he had enough strength to actually speak or interact with things outside himself.
Eventually strong enough to remove the seal keeping the mountain in place, Liu freed Wukong. (Which was the moment Wukong knew he was actually real and not some figment of his grieving mind.)
Together, one a literal shadow of himself and the other a blinded, broken king, they made the very, very long journey home to Flower Fruit Mountain.
Which is where they stayed to heal and recover and just live, until a certain Mercy Goddess came knocking to request Wukong's aid in helping a certain monk. She promised that if he completed this task, she would leave him be.
Reluctant, Wukong agreed. Liu, naturally, tagged along without anyone but Wukong aware of him.
As they travelled, Wukong became rather attached to the group despite his efforts to NOT become attached. Liu had no such problems, and in fact somewhat came to resent them due to how they would treat Wukong.
Due to being blind, Wukong could not make eye contact nor could he read. However, way back when Wukong had initially become blind, Liu and he had crafted a glamor as to lower the chances of getting attacked on the way home. (It also gave Wukong a little bit of a sense of control after having his sight ripped from him. After awhile he kept it more for Liu's own peace of mind so enemies wouldn't target his lack of sight.)
So, unaware of his blindness, there were a lot of not so kind jabs to the lack of eye contact and just generally avoiding reading and the such. (When forced to "read" or "look" at something, Liu would just whisper what it said to him or otherwise describe it for him just as he does to help guide Wukong so it's not very obvious that he's blind. If he needed to write, Wukong would carefully hold the writing utensil in a way that it shadowed so Liu could write for him. No one knows what Wukong's own handwriting looked like- or if they did it's been several hundred years or more now- and so no one ever questioned Liu's own distinct handwriting.)
After Wukong (and Liu, bc Liu functions as Wukong's eyes and is just a great help all around) had saved the group from a certain little girl-who-was-NOT-in-fact-a-little girl, and was ripped into for it, Liu decided he was done. This had gone on long enough, and he was tired of tolerating it. Of watching Wukong tolerate it.
This, of course, eventually devolved into an argument between them. A big one. One that resulted in them separating for the first time since the whole Celestial Realm Incident(tm).
A terrible idea, really.
The "little girl" wasn't so defeated after all, and Liu found himself being hunted without Wukong to give him a boost of energy.
Meanwhile, Wukong himself found himself without any sense of vision at all. His staff subtly functioned as a walking stick, and sure he'd trained blindfolded before-
But being entirely without someone else who could describe the things around him was a different kinda animal from being simply blindfolded.
Then, of course, the group gets attacked. Because they get attacked literally every other day to daily.
Long story short, neither Wukong nor Liu fare well and end up crashing back into each other. They quickly agree to sort things out later and once again become an unstoppable team and defeat the ones attacking them.
One, however, gets away to lick her wounds and attack them again later. (You all can probably guess who.)
After that entire fiasco, the monkies swear to never separate again and, while they are both unhappy about each other's opinions on the group, they put aside their differences and continue to travel with said group.
Timeskip to present day, there are very, very few people who know about Liu. But they've all heard the tales of how Heaven's Equal's shadow dances and doesn't always mimic it's source, and how the darkness thickens around the sage like a living thing, and how the king seems to talk to himself at the most oddest of random times. How the Monkey King never looks someone in the eye, and oh, how the myths and fables run wild with that, spinning false truths of all the things that could happen if he DID for none know the truth.
Sun Wukong is blind.
So begins the Lego Monkie Kid show. Let's see how it goes, shall we? :]

I love the Sakura chronicles with ror! Can I request sakura!reader getting proposed to by her love?
Humans; Kojiro, Qin Shi Huang, Nikola,
Gods; Buddha, Odin, Poseidon, Hades and Beelzebub
-It was finally time, he was going to ask you to marry him, after finding that he was the happiest by your side.
-Ever since he first saw you in your fight, where you easily took care of your opponent, to showing that you were a healer, kind and loving, but also smart, witty, and you took disrespect from nobody, including your very pushy and desperate ex, who still hadn’t taken the hint that you were happy with someone else.
-It had been about a month of planning in the making, as he wanted it to be memorable for you. He wanted to show you how special you were to him, and everything had to be perfect!
-This was it, a romantic picnic in the mountains, seeing the beautiful flowers and scenery, the perfect backdrop for a proposal! Too bad that the weather had other ideas and you and him had to take shelter from the downpour of rain under the blanket he had brought under a tree, cuddled together. You had noticed he was pouting lightly, and you smiled softly, cupping his cheek, “It’s okay (Love), a little rain never hurt anyone.” He couldn’t help but smile, seeing you trying to cheer him up before he pulled out the ring, “I wanted it to be perfect so I- I could…” his face flushed, embarrassed that all his planning went out the window, but you were quick to squeal, throwing your arms around his neck, peppering her face with kisses as you agreed. He smiled into the kiss, bliss taking over as he hugged you back, happy that soon he would call you his wife.
            -Kojiro, Beelzebub, and Nikola
-He spared no expense, getting a reservation at the fanciest restaurant in Valhalla, dressing to the nines and even arranged for you to have a shopping spree at a super fancy boutique. You felt and looked like a princess as you held his arm, (Love) escorting you inside. The meal was so fancy, and the ambiance was beautiful as the two of you spoke quietly, not disturbing others, but still enjoying your time together. After the meal, you headed down to the nearby beach, as the restaurant overlooked a beautiful beach and you both removed your shoes, walking in the sand. When (Love) stopped, making you stop, he instantly kneeled, pulling out the ring. He didn’t even get a chance to ask you as you squealed, lunging into his arm, knocking him back into the sand, covering his face with kisses which made him smile warmly. All his planning was worth it, to see you so happy.
-Qin Shi Haung, Hades, and Poseidon
-He realized that he didn’t need to plan anything fancy, he just needed to make it special, make it something that you loved, and seeing the smile on your face as you walked around together, hand in hand, around the massive flower gardens in Valhalla, that this was perfect. Seeing your bright smile, sensing your happiness by just being with him together. He was holding your hand as you stood under a weeping willow, seeing the flowers in bloom and you felt him slid something onto your ring finger. You looked down after he pulled back, seeing the ring which made your eyes go wide and you looked up at him, seeing him grin and you instantly leapt into his arms, arms around his neck, “Yes!!” he chuckled warmly, seeing you even happier now. That’s all he wanted because that’s how you made him feel.

Chapter Recap 1: The divine root conceives, its source revealed; Mind and nature nurtured, the Great Dao is born
Hello to everyone, and thank you for a good showing on this first official “meeting” for the Journey to the West reading group. Many thanks to everyone who participated! You comments, memes, art, and meta was all wonderful. To end the day, I will provide a quick chapter recap for anyone who may want or need it. I  hope you all find it useful. Here’s looking forward to next week’s session.
---
Chapter 1 covers a LOT, beginning with the primordial figure Pan Gu’s construction of the Universe, the creation of Heaven, Earth, and Man, before we then zoom into Flower-Fruit Mountain. The focus is here put on an immortal stone which, “nourished for a long period by the seed of Heaven and Earth and by the essences of the sun and the moon,” becomes “pregnant with a divine embryo” (i.e. a stone egg), which later on, being “exposed to the wind,” is “transformed into a stone monkey.” Thus is the hero of Xiyouji created!
We then follow the stone monkey as he lives a life of feasting on the fruits of the Earth that Flower-Fruit Mountain provides and becoming friends with everything from tigers to deer to gibbons. And then one fateful day, while playing with a group of monkeys, all these simians decide to follow a mountain stream to its source. Encountering a great waterfall, the monkeys declare that “‘If any of us had the ability to penetrate the curtain and find out where the water comes from without hurting himself, we would honor him as king.’” The stone monkey is the only one to take on the challenge, and, jumping through the waterfall, he discovers a sizeable cave all ready and furnished. The stone monkey, delighted with his discovery, soon convinces the rest of the simians to jump through the waterfall and join him in the cave so that they might “spare ourselves from being subject to the whims of heaven,” i.e. the weather. And so the stone monkey “ascended the throne of kingship” and “assumed the title, Handsome Monkey King.”
The Handsome Monkey King and his subjects, “a flock of gibbons and baboons,” enjoy “their independence in perfect happiness” for “three or four hundred years.” Yet one day during a feast, the king “suddenly grew sad,” soon after explaining to his alarmed subjects that his sorrow comes from fact that though “‘we are not subject to the laws of man today, nor need we be threatened by the rule of any bird or beast, old age and physical decay in the future” will bring an end to their happiness. The monkeys are left weeping, “each one troubled by his own impermanence.” Yet from “among the ranks a bareback monkey suddenly leaped forth” and informs the Monkey King that the Buddhas, the immortals, and the holy sages “can avoid the Wheel of Transmigration as well as the process of birth and destruction, and live as long as Heaven and Earth, the mountains and the streams.” The Monkey King immediately resolves to “find these three kinds of people” so that he can learn how to escape death and be young forever. The monkeys are delighted at this idea, and declare that they will “send the Great King off with a great banquet.”
After an entire day spent drinking and feasting, the Monkey King has his subjects make him a raft, and he sets off in search of the immortals. When he arrives on a distant shore, he soon afterward catches and strips a man of his clothes so that he can wear them himself, “aping the way humans wore them.” The Monkey King then made his way “though counties and prefectures, imitating human speech and human manners,” always “bent on finding the way of the Buddhas, immortals, and holy sages, on discovering the formula for eternal youth.” Yet his search seems fruitless, as “the people of the world were all seekers after profit and fame; there was not one who showed concern for his appointed end.”
The Monkey King is unsuccessful in finding the immortals on one continent, though he spent eight or nine years searching. So he builds himself another raft and drifts across another ocean to another continent. Here he comes across a magnificent mountain, and here encounters a woodcutter that he mistakes for an immortal. Yet this man is neighbors with an actual immortal, and is thus able to tell the Monkey King how he can find “‘the Cave of Slanting Moon and Three Stars. Inside the cave is an immortal by the name of the Patriarch Subodhi, who has already sent out innumerable disciples.”
Finding the cave exactly as the woodcutter told him he could, the Handsome Monkey King nevertheless doesn’t dare to knock. And, being a monkey, he instead “jumped onto the branch of a pine tree, picked a few pine seeds and ate them, and began to play.” Yet doing so works out in his favor; an immortal youth, coming out both because his shifu told him to and to see who was making a disturbance, soon afterwards brings the Monkey King inside to meet Patriarch Subodhi.
As soon as he sees Patriarch Subodhi, the Handsome Monkey King “prostrated himself and kowtowed times without number, saying ‘Master! Master! I, your pupil, pay you my sincere homage.’” And indeed, after being questioned on where he came from, how he got to the immortal’s cave, and even on how he looks and moves, the Patriarch gives the Monkey King the religious name “Sun Wukong,” or “monkey awakened to the void,” accepting the simian as his pupil.
And so we leave the stone monkey, the Handsome Monkey King, the newly named Sun Wukong, at the beginning of his Daoist cultivation. We’ll see how successful he is at it next week.

Happy Mother's Day! A Buddhist Mindfulness Perspective
I wish all Mother's a day filled with peace, love and kindness. Today is a day that we remember to show our respect, love and gratitude:
Once this day is over, Mother's Day, the holiday will come again next year. But whether our mothers are here or no longer with us, mindfulness practitioners are instructed each day of our lives to recollect on the kindness of our Mothers.
Therefore, I wanted to express my thanks and share thoughts about the importance of our parents, from a Buddhist perspective.
The following is a short excerpt from the "Sutra about the Deep Kindness of Parents and the Difficulty of Repaying it", in which the Buddha instructs the monks of the kindnesses of a mother.
The Sutra states:
"There are ten types of kindnesses bestowed by the mother on the child.
1. The kindness of providing protection and care while the child is in the womb.
2. The kindness of bearing suffering during birth.
3. The kindness of forgetting the pain once the child has been born.
4. The kindness of eating the least and worst for herself and saving the best for her child.
5. The kindness of moving the child to a safer and more comfortable place even at the cost of her own discomfort.
6. The kindness of feeding the child at her breast and nourishing and bringing up the child.
7. The kindness of washing away the unclean.
8. The kindness of always thinking of the child when it has travelled far.
9. The kindness of deep care and devotion.
10. The kindness of ultimate compassion and sympathy.'
The Sutra elaborates on these acts of kindness, and also how the heedlessness of children hurts their parents.
Ananda and the monks are deeply moved by what the Buddha tells them, and in considering the hardships faced by parents, are brought to weeping. They ask what they can possibly do to repay their parents for their kind deeds, and the Buddha tells them to recite the sutra, hold the precept of pure eating, cultivate gratitude, and purify and resolve any ethical or moral lapses.
So again, to all the beautiful Mother's out there - Have a very special and Happy Mother's Day- today and every day! We are grateful.

I jsut had an idea for Slow Boiled Stone Egg au.
Basically, in the base jttw canon story, both Buddha and Guanyin are supposed to be present DURING the fight with Macaque. So you can bet that after a battle like that, Guanyin is going to insist on Wukong getting a checkup, like... he's pregnant for crying out loud and just had to kill his mate. While she is doing that, Gold Star basically comes down to get statements and discovers A) Wukong is a Stone Monkey, B) he pregnant, and C) he very much wants to keep this a secret. Now, Gold Star always liked Wukong. It's why he tried also hard to defend him when the Jade Emperor was all for killing him for his insolence from the get-go. Learning his favorite troublemaker had been a member of his favorite species of extinct primate celestial this time is a big shock to him, and he did so after discovering he had to kill his own mate, who without the magic to keep up a glamour, is now very obviously seen as another Stone Monkey. He's gonna know what that means for Wukong, being ghe msot knowledgeable about Stone Monkeys and their mating habits, and he'll feel a lot of sympathy for him.
I imagine he'll have a talk with the Pilgrims, just letting that they should take it easy on Wukong for a bit after the death of his mate, and offhandedly mentioning the fact Stone Monkeys mate for life. And kindly ask that they follow Wukong's request to keep these facts hidden and secret, and to respect that Wukong is in grieving and likely will not ever truly be able to find romantic love again.
Oh gosh, and Guanyin and Gold Star were likely unaware that Macaque didn't know until the fight was over. Buddha probably did but he has a lot on his cosmic plate rn.
The PIlgrims, the Gods, and even Guanyin herself wanted to step in and stop the fight; but Wukong refused. He demanded that it stay between him and his mate, that he can find a way to calm him down enough to tell him.
In the Jttw Stone Egged au: Wukong is successful.
However, in the Slow Boiled au: he tragically isn't.
Wukong is sobbing, wailing, screaming over the deceased monkey before him. His Pilgrim brothers are so disturbed by what they just seen that they can't even speak. Guanyin is stoney, trying to hide her own tears of sympathy as she tries to approach the monkey to determine his and his unborn's condition. Wukong refuses to move from his spot drapped over his unmoving mate.
Meanwhile, Gold Star stands nearby. A look of dismay, confirmation, and horror upon his face.
I hc that Gold Star has some huge empathy, not only for demons, but for any form of life - as the planet Venus is now scienfically believed to have once had a basis of life similar to what later developed on Earth's pre-Cambrian. The primordial god of Venus had to watch all life on his planet die off, whether due to supernatural or cosmic changes. When he became the Jade Emperor's right-hand man, Gold Star advocates for all life, now matter what - including a little chaos monkey he suspected was a reminder of the far past.
When the Monkey King and the Six Eared Macaque fought and the Macaque died; Gold Star basically witnessed what very well could be the last member of an extinct species kill their mate in self-defence. And upon realising that both monkeys were an extinct species of celestial primate? You might as well have crushed a dodo egg right infront of him.
Stone Monkeys mate for life.
Sun Wukong is an *immortal* Stone Monkey. One that's carrying a Stone egg (!!).
And he has just killed his mate in self-defence.
Gold Star bluntly states the above bullet points to the Pilgrims when asked why he himself is tearing up. All four companions weep with sympathy as the knowledge sets in, Tripitaka in particular blaming himself for banishing Wukong just before the Macaque tried ambushing them. Had the monk maybe have been more trusting of his student then maybe both monkeys could be alive right now.
At some point during the grieving, a mass of chains rise up from the Underworld and pull the six-eared monkey down into the depths, ignoring how the Monkey King screams and digs through the dirt to follow his mate.
The stench of death magic hangs in the air.
Wukong stare blankly at the dirt. His moonlight has been taken into the Underworld. Somewhere he himself is unwelcome.
In the next few years he attempts to bursts through the gates to retrieve his mate, only to recieve word that the Liu'er Mihou is not listed among the dead throughout all the levels of Hell. Wukong cries once more, now bittersweet, that his mate has passed through the Bridge of Naihe into the next life.
Wukong spends the next thousand years waiting.
