The Hicksville Lighthouse Library, Hicksville by Dylan Horrocks:

Once a comics writer hits a certain point in their lives, they can go to the town of Hicksville, NZ. There are about three dozen inhabitants, all of whom are very knowledgeable about all types of comics. Old men bicker on the merits of Edward P. Jacobs vs Sergio Aragones, the municipal library has multiple mint condition copies of Action comics #1, the tea and the rarebit are especially good at the local café. It's easy to find accommodation and art supplies there.

Here, comics writers can write the comics they always wanted to. Unbound from commercial appeal, material difficulties, anything. Once in Hicksville, they can do it. Then it goes in the lighthouse library. You can read the comics of Picasso and Lorca, Harvey Kurtzman's History of war, Wally Wood's Map of magic, the finished Phoenix by Tezuka and so many more. All the great works that could've made the medium sing, from writers the world over, pure freedom in a million different formats. The only rule to observe is that the works here are Tapu, Taboo in the Maori sense (the caretaker of the place is Maori) as in, a community resource that must not be exploited.

The library is located partly underground, partly in the Hicks Point lighthouse in New Zealand.

Junior Woodchucks Guidebook, Guardians of the Lost Library by Don Rosa:

ethan, wally, and dawn are pretty good friends actually!! wally meets dawn (and lucas) sometime post dppt and they go on a small fun adventure together where they all get sent to the nightmare dimension by darkrai. ethan meets dawn while team dawn, barry, and cynthia were investigating sinjoh trying to find a way to get lucas home and gets roped up in the time travel adventure with them. then dawn introduced wally to ethan and they now have a super cool champions group chat that red is also technically part of but he never talk except for the occasional pikachu pic jumpscares after everyone forgets he's even in the groupchat

rosa and serena end up making a couple movies together post bw2 and xy! gloria is a big fan of their movies

lucas is kind of a cool mentor figure to the bw1 gang! including n even though they're like two years older than lucas HDHDHS.

Unit Teambuilding - Kukui

Honestly, I never expected to be writing this.  Kukui is...not a sync pair that does much.  And yet is constantly used.

General Overview Kukui is one of those units that will see a ton of play even at 1/5, because his value is his utility at base.  Leer is a fantastic trait to have, providing a massive increase to physical damage.  At 3/5, he gets Staggering 4 on Accelerock, giving a 50% flinch chance on a gauge-free move.  This is good because high chance and no gauge.  This is atrocious because he needs to cycle his trainer move to restore MP to keep that pressure up.  But for CS, it’s generally all upside.

The thing is, this has been Kukui’s sole niche for ages, entirely because his offense is downright bad.  Mid-300 attack with EX is low, and because he didn’t have EX, he wasn’t really sync nuking too hard.  Especially not with Cakewalk.  Yes, Kukui’s other attack is Rock Tomb, because all is dust.  So the man’s not just weak, he’s weak in a way where even if his offenses were higher he’d still be cursed.  Kukui’s damage, in both DPS and sync, is bad.  It’s depressing.  Rock-types just do not get to be very good.  So even with the EX, I don’t think anything has seriously changed for him.

Team 1: Kukui, SS Diantha/P!Serena/Gordie, Hop/Shauna/Sonia Kukui’s offensive role relies entirely on Diantha.  Without Diantha, this does not work so well, though I will bring up others.  SS Diantha is just the complete package.  Speed debuffs on entry, defense debuffs through buddy move, and the coveted Zone.  All that you need then is...complete offensive support.  Kukui cannot self-buff.  It’s a problem.

There are alternatives, however.  P!Serena, or technically Raihan if you go 4/5, can hit -2 speed AoE per action.  So they’re really effective Cakewalk supporters.  Gordie is a single-target option for Gauntlet.  In those scenarios, Sonia may be optimal, due to the potential defense debuffs that can further assist Kukui’s damage.

Team 2: Kukui, SC Hilda, Hilbert This is an old standby for me, and it’s a generalized indication of what works.  Leer debuffs all foes’ defense, and SC Hilda hits AoE with Diamond Storm.  Kukui can then focus on flinching center in CS, shutting down that final action and letting Hlida blast.  Kukui’s notably because the high speed helps with Hilda’s gauge needs pre-mega.

Team 3: Kukui, Rosa, Lodge May Again, somewhat example-based, but anti-Entei.  Kukui’s only significant utility is his flinch rate.  The goal is to emphasize someone who can deal good damage to it, and ideally an EX support for rapidly increasing damage.  The main things to keep in mind are taking down phase 1 quickly, to avoid Fire Spin killing the tank, and that you desperately need the flinch at the start of Bar 3.

Final Thoughts Kukui’s an odd unit, very much like Nanu.  He’s got fantastic utility that allows him to see pretty constant play, but very rarely for offensive reasons.  But now with EX, he can do offensive reasons, it’s just a massive challenge.  I’m still not convinced Kukui’s going to do all that much without an expansion.  Which...how did he not get one?  No really, how?  He got his EX, Fantina set that expectation, I didn’t think they’d skip him for Wally.  So weird...

My personal thoughts on actual game canon and main protag by game/region/generation.

Incredibly convoluted, just like the actual canon timeline appears to be.

First, objectively, at this point it has been established that there are multiple timelines, with the establishment of Rainbow Rocket. I've mentioned it before, but the original gameboy versions do not appear to be within the same continuity of time as the GBA/DS game. They do potentially seem possibly connected to the 3DS era games via direct trading through PokéBank, as well as adult Red showing up in the same game as young Wally. The Switch games are still up in the air as to how or even if they are connected directly.

I think the two official timelines seem to be

RGBY → GSC (BDSP?) → XY → ORAS → SM/USUM (→ SwSh → PLA somewhere in this coninuity → SV?)

and

FRLG ⇒ RSE → HGSS ⇒ DPPt → BW → B2W2 (→ SwSh → PLA somewhere in this continuity → SV?)

Not quite sure where the Let's Go games fit into the mix, but If the switch games have their own continuity, I might shove them in there...

While most people treat the remakes as the most definitive games of their region, I think that it would actually be the third version of each region (if there is one).

However, because there are two games per region each generation, some of which have vastly different outcomes for their opposing version, I feel like there is a another unofficial split that follows either the first named game or the second named game in the generation.

For example one timeline could be:

FR ⇒ R → HG ⇒ D→ B → B2 → X → (U)S → Sw → S

All of that being said, these are the games I take as canon and the protags of each:

Yellow: Red as protag (Blue/Leaf exists, but not within the game's events.)

Crystal: Kris as protag (Gold/HIbiki and Kotone don't exist, but if they did, they do not know Kris)

Emerald: Yuuki as protag

Platinum: Hikari as protag

Black + Black 2: Hilbert as protag followed by Rosa (Hilda and Nate hang out in the battle subway, and Hilda is Hilbert's twin sister).

Y: Serena as protag

Sun: Elio as protag (Selene probably doesn't exist, no gf Lillie :< )

Shield: Gloria as protag (Victor probably doesn't exist, no bf for Hop :< )

Scarlet: Florian as protag (Juliana exists and is a regular student)

As there are alternate timelines, starting with Unova, the protags swap as well as which game events are canon (e.g White + White 2 with Hilda and Nate, X with Calem, Moon with Selene, etc). Things get a bit more confusing in regions with remakes.

RGBY Red is still protag, but FRLG Blue/Leaf is, with their situations swapped.

GS has Gold/Hibiki as the protag with neither girl existing, but HGSS has Kotone as protag and Hibiki as her childhood friend.

Ruby and Omega Ruby has Yuuki still as protag, but Sapphire and Alpha Sapphire have Haruka.

Diamond and Brilliant Diamond have Kouki as protg, but Pearl and Shining Pearl have Hikari.

I do have a personal timeline wherein I imagine all three Johto progats co-existing, but that is honestly for another day.

Alina and friends 2 Chapter:Meeting with the characters.

The girls walked along the path, following Daisy, who was flying. Later, they begin to feel tired.

Sanya:Girls, let's rest and look for something to eat. Otherwise we'll be hunting someone.

Alina:Fine. (I saw a tree) Oh! We can take a break there.

Daisy:Come on.

Alina, Lula and Sanya crouched under a tree until Daisy saw something and flew up.

When the heroes heard this, they quickly ran to the people.

Umnikus:What happened?

Male security guard:Tomorrow the Honey Badger comes to us with an army and told us to give everything away. (Everyone was scared)

Chief:We have to fight him.

Umnikus:No, if we fight, Shararam will suffer destruction.

Alina, seeing this, wants to help and she came up with it.

Alina:Do you have a cave?

Umnikus:Well yeah.

Alina:Then I need paper and pencil. (The child gives her paper and a pencil, and she draws a drawing of an image of a cave and a round stone on it) We'll gather around the gold and put it in the cave. And when the Honey Badger with the army goes up there, we'll catch it and cover it. And then we'll wait for them to weaken.

Day 70 (continue drive home)

These are north east of Alamagordo and we had to have driven right by them both last year and this year. We both don't remember them to look like this. Is it because we're seeing them at a different time of day or from a different direction (this is becoming a theme!)

And here we thought it was a bummer to see same thing going home but.....

If it weren't for the Lake I could see myself living in the middle nowhere in this big open space where though the houses are so far apart you can only see them because the valley between all these mountain ranges is tens of miles wide.

We're fascinated by the small towns with a mile of abandoned commercial buildings. Even more fascinating is why are a few occupied and in good repair. This town is one of town after town like this along US54 but it at least has a story. It developed into a thriving town because it was at the intersection of 2 major railroads so and the beautiful depot is one of the old buildings in town that's been kept up. By the 1920s there were 900 residents. And even though the population now is 286 it still has its own school - a total of 60 students in all grades. Where do you get teachers for that? The houses we saw are pretty run down and in 2019 the students listed as doing well on state test was 35% (that's up from 2017 at 21%). So there isn't a large taxpayer base to pay for it. But as we were leaving town there was a brand new diner (the silver kind that's meant to look like the 1950s) and a new Travelodge. Why?

And then miles of beige again. Every so often in the middle of the beige is just the fireplace of a stone house. Or just a couple walls. When we see these likely houses from a long ago ranch we think of the family having dinner together, and sitting around the fireplace in the evening.

Thank you Santa Rosa library for your internet so I could run an executive group this afternoon. Our fabulous Starlink was set to start a new payment month last week the day we arrived at Jim & Wally's. And then Kim & Sheryl's and then drive straight home. The only thing that required more Internet than our phone could provide was this group facilitation - 2 hrs was not worth the cost of a whole month. So we reverted back to the last 2 years of driving to a library.

The Last Mountain

Bill said, "You better look now because that's the last mountain". After 2 1/2 months of mountains on all 4 sides this is the last. And it sure was a great one - rising out of the land like an ancient city.

We slept at the Liberal KS Walmart tonight. If Liberal KS sounds familiar to you it's because of your trip last year on the way home to Dorothy's House (see 2023 Day 69)

Jealous Much

I've been binge watching a lot of my favorite old shows from when I was growing up and I came across a scene from episode 19 of Victorious. The scene was when Andre, Cat, Beck, and Jade were at a new karaoke place when two girls started flirting with the boys and Jade got jealous and challenged them to a singing battle. I got inspired from that and wrote this based on it. I hope you enjoy reading it.

"Come on (Y/n), were going to be late." You heard Dick call from downstairs where he was waiting for you finish getting ready to meet up with Wally and Artemis. "Are you ever patient with anything you do with me Dick?" You asked him playfully while coming down the stairs ready to get going.

"Most likely not because of how much time you always take to get ready for small things." He said with a smug smirk appearing on his face. "Its not my fault that It is not easy for me to look good with as much little effort as you." Dick put a hand to his heart and pretended to act offended by your comment.

You rolled your eyes at him and made your way towards the front door with Dick following right behind you. He opened the door for you while grabbing the car keys from out of his leather jacket's pocket. "Guessing by the time we get to the place Wally has already eaten everything they have on the menu."

"Probably knowing him, he would have done it in the first 5 minutes of being there." He said before bending down to kiss you on the head softly. "Let's hope Artemis can stop him from eating that much then." You said getting in Dick's brand new car.

The both of you drove to the location for a much needed day off with Artemis and Wally from the hero work. You loved helping people but sometimes you need a break from everything that is going on in your life right now.

"How are things going at Wayne Enterprises?" You asked him out of curiosity from him know being the new CEO of the company. "Things are going very smoothly but I feel like I have big shoes to fill since Bruce retired so early."

You gave Dick a reassuring smile as he continued his drive to the the brand new restaurant all four of you have wanted to check out since seeing the opening a few weeks ago when catching up with one another. Lost in your thoughts you didn't realize that you phone had started to buzz in your right hand.

"Hey babe, you might want to check who is calling you at the moment." Dick said trying to regain your attention while still having his eyes straight on the road driving. You snapped out of your very thoughts and looked down to see Artemis's caller ID shine bright across your phone screen while still buzzing from you not answering the call.

You pressed the green answer button and brought your phone to your ear but flinched when you heard Artemis basically screaming at you through the speaker. "(Y/n) where are you and Dick we have been waiting for you guys to arrive here for the last 15 minutes straight!" Artemis sounded very annoyed with you and Dick just from her tone of voice when she was using to speak with you.

"We're stuck in traffic right now, but I promise we will get there in the next 10 minutes." You said with a promising tone in your voice. "You better be because i don't know how much longer I can hold Wally off from swallowing this whole place." Once she finished that sentence you could hear Wally say something about how rude Artemis was for saying that about him. The call ended after that  and you went to looking out of the window of the car.

"(Y/n) we're here now so lets get going before Artemis comes outside and beats our asses for being late." Dick said while trying to shake you to get out of your daydreaming and get out of the car. "Oh sorry, I didn't notice." You replied to him while quickly shutting the car door behind you.

When you were both at the front door Dick took the handle and opened it for you while saying "Here you are my precious lady." You started to giggle at his playfulness and decided to play along with his little game. "Why thank you my good sir" You said while pretending to courtesy to him for his actions. Both of you only got a few steps into the place before spotting Wally and Artemis already at the booth all of you reserved for the rest of day.

"There you guys are I thought you both would never arrive here by the the time (Y/n) said you would be here soon because she always lies about that." Wally said to you while never taking his eyes off his own menu looking at all of the food options. "And I see you still won't change Wally." You said while rolling your eyes at his terrible comment at you.

All of you took your seats and decide what you wanted to order for your meal. "i am gonna go get the drinks what do you all you want to drink?" Artemis asked everyone at the table. "I'll take a water" Dick said rather quickly knowing exactly what he wanted. "I will have one too" Wally pitched in on what he wanted to drink with his meal.

You were looking at the menu, but nothing you could see was what you wanted for a drink so you Artemis "Can I go with you to see if there are any drinks I would like?" Artemis said yes so the both of you went to the drink stand to see what the place had to offer for the moment of time.

"Dick can you explain now since the girls are gone now why you and (Y/n) can never make it to a place on time?" Wally asked while glancing at his phone from time to time. "You know how (Y/n) is when getting ready to go." Dick said with a look that says she is killing me with that habit of hers. "Yeah I know how she is but you love her no matter what happens." Wally said with a bright smile showing on his face.

"Yeah (Y/n) really is amazing and I love her but man she kills me sometimes, but I'm guessing you have your fair share of pet peeves when your dating Artemis yourself." Dick said giving him a very questioning look at his redhead best friend. "Don't you even get me started on her, she drives me crazy but that's what I love about her." The boys went on with their conversation while having no idea of being watched by some ladies across the room from them.

"Oh my god Amelia look over at those two guys at that table they look so hot!" Rosa gushed to her friend about how hot those guys were that she never even spoke to. "I know I see that Rosa but that guy with dark raven hair looks yummy to me." Amelia said before taking a sip of her coke from her glass. "I know but just look at that redhead he looks like he knows what to do when we are along together." Rosa added a playful wink to her comment as Amelia choked on her drink after hearing what her friend just said to her.

"Rosa control yourself we are in a public building with people around us at every corner you look at." Amelia scolded her friend on her inappropriate behavior when dining out to a place to eat. "Your no better Amelia with you saying about how yummy a guy is without even ever meeting him before" Rosa shot back at her friend's scolding.

The two friends constantly went back and forth for a few minutes before finally decided to talk to the the guys both of them were staring at from earlier. "What happens if they reject us Amelia in front of everyone here that's eating?" Rosa said while panicking about the worst results that could happen to the both of them.

"Nothing will wrong I promise just look at how hot we both are those guys won't be able to take their off us for the rest of the day." Amelia said trying to reassure her friend about talking to them. "I know but maybe we just don't go up to them after all." Rosa said while slopping down in her seat. "Come on when are we ever gonna see guys this hot ever again this is our chance we can't screw it up, Rosa." Amelia declared by dragging Rosa over to the two guys sitting at their table having a conversation.

Wally could see from the angle he was at while talking to Dick could see two girls looking the same age as them coming over to their booth. "Oh shit Dick I think some girls are coming over to us right now." Wally said in a very low whisper trying not to draw attention to himself. "Why does this always happen when will all go out in public and where are (Y/n) and Artemis right now?" Dick groaned out.

"Just go for it Rosa nothing will go wrong just come along." Amelia said when she finally finished Rosa over to the guy's table. Both of the girls saw the two guys stop their conversation together and went to look at the strangers right in front of their table. The two girls sat down next to both of them without even saying a word to them.

Artemis and you were walking back from the drink stand with all your guys drinks and saw two girls putting there hands all over Wally and Dick." I'm going to kill wally when I get over there." Artemis said with a glare on her face while still walking over to the table. The closer you got to the table you could see how uncomfortable Dick was in this moment. You have always know Dick to be a sweet caring person and not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings so you know how he was feeling.

"We're back with the drinks you two." You said calmly as you could after seeing what is going on right now with your boyfriend and a random girl. You and Artemis set the drinks on the table with the girls still touching Wally and Dick. "Excuse could you move so I can have my seat back?" You asked politely to the girl was glaring daggers at you from where you were standing up.

"No I'm sorry I started to get to know this handsome man over here" She purred out in a sultry tone trying to seduce Dick. You started to laugh at her actions because you know Dick would never leave you because he follows you like a lost puppy everywhere you go. Both of the girls gave you a weird looking but went back to trying to seduce the boys.

"You better get your hands off my boyfriend in the 5 minutes or you won't have hands anymore." Artemis said giving a very threatening look to the girl who was roaming her hands all over Wally and she didn't like it one bit.  "If I don't what are you gonna do about it blondie." Rosa almost shouted at Artemis.

You could tell that Artemis was furious at the comment she just heard about herself. It was one thing to touch her boyfriend but if you make a comment about her hair fists are about to be flying in this place. "No need to get angry right now lets just get our seats back and we can all just forget this ever happened" You said trying to calm down Artemis from how pissed off she was.

The Rosa girl that was sitting next to Wally went running from the table because of how afraid she was of Artemis. The way Dick pushed the girl out of the booth was the funniest  thing you saw since the last time Bruce tripped down the stairs of the bat cave.You could hear mutter under her breath about how much of a bitch you guys were.

The rest of the night was filled with laughter and catching up with one another. When you and Dick were heading out of the door you were pulled by the air and brought into a passionate kiss on his soft lips. "You should be jealous more it looks beautiful on you." Dick said smugly pulling you over to the car with a very red blush coating your cheeks.

The CW Rogues: My Biggest Gripe With the 2014 Flash Show

In many ways, the CW Flash show is what got me into comics. While I had watched (and loved) Justice League and Justice League Unlimited and read loads of DC guidebooks as a kid, it wasn’t until I saw a clip from the 2014 CW Flash show that I really got invested in the DC Universe. While I had already started watching B:TAS (and loving it), Batman wasn’t what got me into comics. No, that was the Flash...or rather, it was Captain Cold. While watching a clip from the Justice League episode Flash and Substance on YouTube, I saw a link to a clip from “Family of Rogues” (from Season 2 of CW’s Flash). Intrigued by the premise, I found the show on Netflix, watched the entire episode, and was hooked. Not only was the Flash just as nice as he had been on Justice League, but two of his Rogues were siblings, and they actually cared about one another. I wanted to know more, so I looked Captain Cold and the Golden Glider up. My research into Cold and Glider led me to the other Rogues, and soon I became a Flash fan. I watched the show, I re-watched “Flash and Substance”, I read articles about the characters from the comics...and eventually, I started reading the comics themselves. I loved the characters and the lore, and I enjoyed the generally lighthearted tone of the books even into the modern era. Unfortunately, as I learned more about the comics, I grew less and less interested in the 2014 TV show. It made too many alterations to character I liked in the comics...and eventually, I basically stopped watching the show out of frustration. Ironically enough, by getting me into comics, the show alienated me from itself....and a big reason for that was the way it handled the Rogues. Here’s a rundown of the CW Rogues, and why I was frustrated with most of them. 

1. Captain Cold. I actually enjoy Captain Cold on the CW show; he’s recognizable as Len Snart and his sarcasm game is on point. (It doesn’t hurt that Wentworth Miller is really attractive, either). His relationships with Lisa, Mick, and Barry are fantastic, and it’s a relief to have him be treated as a competent threat. That being said...he’s a bit too suave for Captain Cold, isn’t he? Silver Age Cold thought he was suave, but he wasn’t; and modern Captain Cold is middle-aged, grouchy, and very rough around the edges. His smooth, suave nature reminds me more of classic Sam (the original Mirror Master) than Captain Cold. 

2. Heat Wave. Dominic Purcell did a great job with the role he was given, and physically he’s an excellent match for Mick. That being said, CW Mick is very different from the Mick in the classic comics, who was a bit dim-witted and rather gentle and sweet for a supervillain. CW Mick, by contrast, is, as I think @gorogues put it, “Hothead McAngryman”, which wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t seem to have bled back into the comics themselves. Villains with fire powers being hotheads is a bit overdone, so I’m not thrilled to see comic Mick being put into that role. 

3. Golden Glider. Hands down, Lisa is my favorite of the CW Rogues. Despite the fact that her costume and power set are completely different than they were in the comics, they managed to get her personality down pretty well; making her just as dangerous and competent as the boys. Flirtatious, crafty, devious, and yet still at least somewhat sympathetic, the CW version of Lisa Snart takes home the gold for the best adaptation of a Rogue. If only they hadn’t completely forgotten that she existed. 

4. Pied Piper. Note that I have not seen his Season 6 appearance, so I’m just judging this based on his appearances in Seasons 1 and 2. Piper is disappointing; in his first appearance he wasn’t as fun as Silver/Bronze Age Piper or as sympathetic as modern Piper, and I’m not crazy about the idea of him being motivated primarily by revenge on Wells/Thawne, since that wasn’t his motivation in the comics at all. I also don’t remember him being able to puppet or hypnotize people with his music, which is too bad, since that’s his main schtick in the comics. What’s more, if you want to reform a character, don’t do it offscreen via reality warping and then forget about him for four seasons. It sounds like his Season 6 appearance was better, but I haven’t seen it so I can’t comment on it. Also, “the Pied Piper” is kind of a nonindicative name if he doesn’t play a pipe/flute. 

5. Trickster II (Axel Walker). Axel was actually decent in the CW show. I still like comic Axel better, but they got the gist of his character down and even made him a bit sympathetic. In fact, he’s probably in the top three best Rogue adaptations that the CW did. 

6. Trickster I (James Jesse). I love watching Mark Hamill play CW’s Trickster...but man, he is not playing Giovanni Giuseppi on the CW show. He’s playing the Joker with a different name. It’s especially weird since we know from JLU and that one short where Mark Hamill plays himself, the Joker, the Trickster, and Swamp Thing that Hamill can do a non-Joker Trickster and do it well, so my suspicion is that it was just because Trickster was also the Joker in the 1990s Flash show (where he was also played by Mark Hamill). Regardless, murdering random people and threatening to blow up small children during Christmas is not something the Trickster should be doing. 

Although this does prove Mark Hamill could do a live-action Joker. I’d pay money to see that. Mark Hamill is a great Joker. 

7. Weather Wizard. CW Weather Wizard isn’t egregiously bad. He’s not out-of-character like Trickster, and he’s not boring to watch, but at the same time it feels like there’s something missing. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t quote Twain. Maybe it’s because there’s not the sense that he was a loser before he got his powers. Maybe it’s because they changed his origin completely (and also made him older than Clyde for some reason). It could even be because he’s not wearing a green leotard with a huge collar, puffy sleeves, and ridiculous elf boots. Whatever it is, though, he’s just missing that spark that makes me like comic book Wizard so much. 

8. Mirror Master I (Sam Scudder). I don’t know how you make Sam Scudder more boring than New 52/Rebirth did, but somehow the CW version of the character pulled it off. Granted, Cold had already stolen some of Sam’s characterization, so that didn’t help, but they could’ve leaned into his skills as an inventor or his love of showmanship or something. Instead, we got a generic thug with what was basically Evan McCulloch’s power set. Boo! Boo I say! 

9. Top (Roscoe/Rosa Dillon). The Brave and the Bold Top is more interesting than the CW version, and he doesn’t even have spoken lines! That’s how boring this Top is. Also, the gender swap was pretty pointless. I wouldn’t have minded a female Top if she’d been intelligent and creepy and snobbish in the way that Roscoe is, but why even bother changing the gender if the character is going to have such a minor role? They also substantially depowered the CW Top, since Rosa can’t spin at super speed and isn’t telekinetic. A massive missed opportunity. 

10. Mirror Master II (Evan/Eva McCulloch). I can’t comment on how good of a character Eva is, since I haven’t watched any of the episodes with her in them, but I will say I am disappointed that the character does not seem to be Scottish, does not have Evan’s weird sense of humor, and lacks his tooth gap. 

11. Captain Boomerang (George “Digger” Harkness). Not only did he not actually appear on the Flash, but he was also boring and didn’t even seem to have an Australian accent. I was very disappointed with his role in the CW. 

And now for characters who aren’t Rogues: 

-CW Eobard is really good. I have no real complaints about him. 

-CW Grodd is also really good, though I do wish he was from Gorilla City as per the comics rather than a lab experiment. 

-CW Magenta got most of the important character beats down but felt a bit out of place with Barry as the Flash. 

-CW Shade was possibly even more boring than CW Sam, which is saying something. 

-CW Zoom didn’t really feel like Zoom at all. Not only was it weird to see him fighting Barry and not Wally, but he was just a generic serial killer and didn’t have Zolomon’s unique outlook on the world. The loss of his time manipulation powers was likewise disappointing.

-CW Jay is really good. I love him. 

-CW Jesse Quick has very little in common with her comic book counterpart; I like the comic version better but don’t actually mind the CW version all that much.

-CW Wally is decent enough, though I don’t see why they couldn’t have kept him as Iris’ nephew rather than making him her brother. Also, they didn’t use him nearly as much as they should have. 

-CW Barry I generally like a lot; Grant Gustin is a good fit for the character. That being said, I do wish they hadn’t given him the dead mom origin, which was a retcon I am not fond of. 

-CW Iris is quite good (in the first three seasons, at least); she’s intelligent, loyal to Barry, dedicated to her job, and quite independent. The fact that she and Barry were foster siblings in the CW universe is kind of weird, though, since it makes their romance kind of awkward. 

-Joe West is not Ira West (Iris’s father in the comics), but I actually don’t care. Joe West is made of awesome. (I like Ira too, but I like Joe enough that I don’t mind having him replace Ira.)

-The Fiddler on the CW had very little to do with the comic Fiddler. 

-I’ve never been particularly invested in the Thinker (comic or show), but I will say that the CW’s version of the character was very different from his comics counterpart. 

-CW Ragdoll was just as creepy and unsettling as comic book Ragdoll, though he had a very different backstory. 

-I never expected Baby Josh to make it into the CW, let alone as a gender-swapped teenager named Joss who wanted to kill Weather Wizard. It felt like they never knew where to go with her character, though, so it was a wasted opportunity. At least she didn’t die like poor Baby Josh, though. 

-Big Sir in the CW show is a MASSIVE improvement over the comic version. This is probably the only character I will say this about. Though I will say that I kind of wish he’d gotten his stupidly ugly comic book costume even though it would’ve made no sense. 

-Peek-a-Boo is a pretty solid adaptation of her comic book counterpart. 

-Rainbow Raider (Prism) is much better in the comics than on the CW show, where he only existed to be a boring plot device. 

-Linda Park dating Barry was weird, but they actually did a good job with her character before she vanished.

This is not intended as a criticism of anyone who likes the show or its characters; it’s just me musing about my personal problems with it.

I randomly decided to make pictures for my personal Pokemon LGBT headcanons, since I’ve got this massive, sprawling Pokemon Fanon Universe in my head and in it nearly every single character is LGBT in some way, so I figured why not and put these together. I used the sprites from Pokemon Masters as the artwork because they were among the few “official” pieces of Pokemon artwork that didn’t save as .webp files. There’s more, of course, but I figured what better place to start than the Protagonists? More specifically, MY protagonists, the ones I chose.

Some expansion of the headcanons:

- Red is asexual but biromantic. He falls in love with Misty, but so far nothing has happened between them yet.

- Ethan is bisexual, and I’ve been considering making him trans too, but I haven’t decided yet. I like to think Ethan had a crush on Silver for a while before learning how much of a dick he was and hooking up with Jasmine instead.

- Brendan is in a poly relationship with May and Wally, because I loved all combinations of those ships so I figured “Hey, why not put them all together?” If I had included their individual orientations, Brendan would be bi, Wally would be pan and May would be either bi/pan or straight.

- Dawn is a lesbian. She ends up falling for Cheryl. That’s all I can say about that, tbh.

- Anyone who’s read my Unova Chronicles fic knows that Touya’s bi. The details can be found in that fic.

- Rosa is straight, since her canon potential love interest is a guy and there’s no option for her to be with his female counterpart. I don’t think this is an issue, tbh--she’s a HUGE ally to her LGBT friends, especially her best friend and rival Hugh (who’s asexual for those wondering).

- Calem is gay and I pictured him having this whole arc where he loves making clothes but keeps that fact to himself because he’s scared of being seen as a stereotype. Eventually, his friends convince him to be more open about himself and to not be ashamed of his hobbies or his sexuality.

- Yuki (my name for the SuMo player character) is bisexual, but isn’t entirely aware of this yet.

- Nora (my name for the Scottish Pokemon Trainer SwSh player character) is aromantic and asexual. She has this philosophy of “Who needs romance when you can have POKEMON BATTLES!?” This also makes her and Calem the only ones I haven’t paired up with someone.

These are my headcanons for the Protagonists, so next I guess would be the Rivals, then maybe some of the Gym Leaders, Elite Four, Champions and others, not necessarily in that order.

he visits sinnoh post dppt but pre lucas getting eebied and he goes on a small silly side adventure with dawn and lucas where they get thrown in a nightmare dimension by darkrai. they're fine probably

wally got invited to the "super cool champion group chat™️" by dawn which include him, dawn, ethan (met dawn while dawn, barry, and cynthia investigate sinjoh looking for a way to bring back lucas from the past and then accidentally got involved with the time travel shenanigans), red (got invited by ethan but never talks and everyone keeps forgetting he's there), rosa (got invited after bw2 because rosa met dawn during the pwt), serena (got added by rosa post xy when they started making movies together), and elio (red added him)

also wally, dawn, ethan, and red (blue is in kalos at time so he's not there) participates in the pwt in bw2. wally uses any pronouns by the time bw2 happens. he has a special "champion outfit" wallace designed for him that has a cape that matches gallade. he shows up to help fight archie and maxie during the rainbow rocket takeover. yeah he shows up a couple times post rse lol

she's really bubbly and cheery and would totally get along with wally. she'd help wally ask for no pickles, she'd teach him how to play the piano she'd give him a hug like jotchua and friend image ect they'd be besties i can sense it

He’s a cool guy, what can I say?

And I wouldn’t worry too much. I’m sure DeNA has the ability to tell where gems are allocated, so if it’s not on the main two it shouldn’t be a problem. And really I think they’re looking to Raihan. Wally and Victor get minor improvements, but Raihan’s entire life changes with this expansion. He’s better in every way. So it feels like the old PokeFairs getting this upgrade are designed to draw revenue from older pairs again.

Also not to be a wet blanket but I don’t think refusing to buy gems this month will cause a reversal in this decision. 5/5 grids are here to stay, and at this point I think the most fun option is to pressure this kind of expansion for story units too. They’re more likely to hit 5/5 anyway, and some could really use it. Though god, it better come with extra copies of Rosa, Cheren, Acerola, and Calem. No excuse anymore.
