Along the way, two more certain people Janaya and Corral known from Echo Creek are mentioned in the story.
Warning: The present in the story is before summer break ever started, so it this one-shot is a prequel to the main storyline, The Neighbours. However, the epilogue contain major spoilers of after Volume 1 of Neighbours. Please be advised.

The Many Mystery Tours of Winnie the Pooh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What do a Disney animated movie about a stuffed bear and a Beatles album have in common?
In some articles I wrote back in my WordPress days concerning the Disney "Animated Classics Canon", I talked about how The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - released theatrically on March 11, 1977, was more of a clipshow than it was a fully-fledged Disney animated feature.
Now, the bonus features on various home media releases of this 1977 compilation film have often insisted the opposite. Disney seems to want your average consumer and us semi-historians to know that the story goes: Walt Disney was unsure about American audiences' familiarity with A. A. Milne's bedtime stories and the stuffed animal characters within. Instead of making a feature film as planned during the early 1960s, Walt planned to make three separate shorts to get audiences acquainted with those characters... and then string those three cartoon featurettes together into a 70-or-so-minute movie later down the line...
This seems to be a well-backed up history, too. After all, the autobiography of brothers Robert and Richard Sherman, known for their many contributions to the Disney songbook including the songs for these classic Winnie the Pooh adaptations, states pretty much the exact same thing. This strategy was not dissimilar to the studio's piecing-together of the Davy Crockett episodes of Disney's anthology series (then known as Disneyland, in promoting the upcoming theme park of the same name), which spawned the 1955 theatrical release Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier and its 1956 follow-up Davy Crockett and the River Pirates... But I feel this is untrue, and has been shown to be so...
Familiarity with British characters was never a problem for Walt and his crew before, or characters from European stories in general. Mary Poppins didn't need a couple of shorts, or some episodes of a TV show to familiarize audiences with the titular nanny beforehand. One Hundred and One Dalmatians was, from start to finish, a feature film project that never detoured into short films prior to release. Peter Pan? Same thing.
Now, the Sherman Brothers autobiography states that the poor reception of Alice in Wonderland - a similarly episodic feature based on beloved and relatively plot-free British books - was what drove Walt to make this bizarre decision with Winnie the Pooh. That seems to hold some weight.
If this all was indeed the case, how come the third short - 1974's Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too - took so long to come to fruition? The third short, and the subsequent final third of the film, is very much a post-Walt affair. More than anything, it was a training picture for many of Disney's then-new animators, including a returning Don Bluth. You can tell Bluth's animation from a mile away when Rabbit gets lost in the woods, for sure, as he can't keep his tongue in his mouth. The story appears to borrow from various Winnie the Pooh story LPs that Disneyland Records released throughout the end of the 1960s. (Blustery Day also first came out in record form in 1967, a year before the animated featurette's December 1968 theatrical debut with the flop live-action film The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit.) It is unknown what the final third of Walt's unmade Winnie the Pooh film would've been.
Lastly, it is not as if Winnie the Pooh *wasn't* known by Americans pre-1966... So that seems to render the "Walt was unsure if American audiences would see a feature about that character because he wasn't well-known by Americans" claim moot. I firmly think the real story is, "Walt Disney's Winnie the Pooh", was a lot like the original Leica reel for The Wind in the Willows that was put together in 1941. The Wind in the Willows, based on yet another British literary classic (Kenneth Grahame's story of the same name), could've been the next feature-length film after Bambi's release in 1942. Animator Frank Thomas, of course one of Walt Disney's "Nine Old Men", explained in an interview that the Leica reel ran roughly 48 minutes long and did contain story problems. That no doubt pushed it back, as did World War II's effects on the animation wing. Wind in the Willows eventually wound up as a roughly 35-minute segment of the 1949 package feature The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad.
Walt seemed to have found the Pooh stories to be too fluffy to sustain a roughly 70-minute movie, and figured releasing smaller films based on the stories was the better option. His Winnie the Pooh film was initially planned for a 1965 release, almost two years after The Sword in the Stone and two years before The Jungle Book eventually came out, which partially explains that four-year gap between those two pictures. Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree debuted in February 1966 ahead of The Ugly Dachshund, and was heavily marketed as a double bill, and to no one's surprise, the stuffed bear cartoon completely overshadowed the Dean Jones dog movie. I don't think a Pooh feature was in the cards after that, for the next film after The Jungle Book was The Aristocats, which Walt signed off on before his death in December 1966. Being short films, both Honey Tree and Blustery Day could be shown and shown again on television, which they were. They kept the character a household name, audiences didn't have to wait years for a re-issue like they had to do for longer Disney animated films.
For whatever reason the Walt Winnie the Pooh movie was cancelled, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is still a Frankenstein creation. The 1974 Tigger Too short is not from the Walt era and is its own entity. So in the Disney animated feature "canon", you have a film with 2/3s of it coming from an unmade Walt Disney feature released in two parts from 1966 to 1968, and another 1/3 of it from something conceived well after that. Then you have the "goodbye" ending, which reportedly was once meant for the Blustery Day short. John Walmsley, who voiced Christopher Robin in that portion, voices him here too, which seems to confirm that it was indeed meant for it. Plus, it reuses some animation from a scene in The Jungle Book, which - again - opened a little over a year before Blustery Day debuted. If Blustery Day had been the final cartoon with that ending, it would've been a fitting sendoff being Walt's final animated work that he was alive for most of.
Quite funny how this Winnie the Pooh film is a big honey clustercuss, with a strangely convoluted history... But it's always been thought that it all works together anyways, whether you know the history of the film or if you don't. Ex away the history and the Frankensteinian structure of it, it's a charming anthology of stories about these stuffed animals going on fun misadventures and a nice bittersweet ending to top it off. It works completely fine as a 74-minute animated feature film, and the stories' aimlessness make it work in its own fun way.
To make matters even weirder, in 1983, Walt Disney Productions let out another 25-minute Pooh featurette, Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore. You would think this one was meant to be a training vehicle for new animator hires, but weirdly enough, it was completely outsourced to a studio called Rick Reinert Productions. The new animators instead worked on the featurette Mickey's Christmas Carol, which debuted later that year.
It occurred to me that there's an album that I love whose assemblage is very, very similar to how the 1977 feature The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh came together...
The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour...
Magical Mystery Tour was a surrealist television film that was made in the wake of the death of The Beatles' manager Brian Epstein. Six songs were newly conceived for this 50-or-so-minute film, which would air on the BBC on Boxing Day 1967. (That's December 26th for any Americans reading who may not be familiar with such a holiday.) Coinciding with the release was a six-song double-EP set a few weeks prior. An EP - "extended play", typically, was the same size of a single: A 7-inch record. Singles had one song on one side, and one song on the other. A-side, B-side. An EP could contain up to four songs on the record, and The Beatles were no strangers to the EP format. EPs seemed to be a much more popular kind of record in the UK, too. The Beatles' American distributor, Capitol Records, felt a two-EP record set was not viable for the US market...
Capitol Records is best known by Beatles historians for their Frankenstein-like assembling of albums. A single album in the UK like Rubber Soul could have its tracks spread across, say, THREE albums in the US. All of this mangling would eventually stop by 1967, with the seminal LP (long-player) album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band being the first Beatles album to have the same tracklisting in both the UK and the US. (With only a minor little difference between the two.) In Beatles tradition, some songs were never meant to be anything but just singles. For example, in 1966, there was The Beatles album Revolver, and a single: 'Paperback Writer' b/w 'Rain'. Two songs meant specifically for that single 7-inch 45rpm record.
In 1967, The Beatles released three singles. The first of which was 'Strawberry Fields Forever' b/w 'Penny Lane', released in February 1967. Both songs had been conceived for Sgt. Pepper, but because of a relative lull in releasing anything (Revolver had come out in August 1966, and there was - unusually - no Christmas market single release that year), it was decided to have those two songs be a single instead of tracks on the upcoming album. Next was 'All You Need Is Love' b/w 'Baby You're a Rich Man', released in July 1967, nearly two months after Sgt. Pepper. Last came 'Hello, Goodbye', on the B-side they attached the Magical Mystery Tour song 'I Am the Walrus', which later appeared on the two-EP set.
In the US, Capitol Records had all six songs from the movie put on side one of their Magical Mystery Tour LP. Side two would be the five other songs that The Beatles released in 1967, in order: 'Hello, Goodbye', 'Strawberry Fields Forever', 'Penny Lane', 'Baby You're a Rich Man', and 'All You Need Is Love'. Altogether, this is a very strong 11-track sequence. No surprise, that album shot to #1 on the charts, and it even got imported to the UK in early 1968 and charted as high as #31 - despite the EP and the separate singles existing over there. It works so well as an album, and as an equally psychedelic sequel to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band... even if it was never conceived as such in the first place.
And the weirdest thing is, the Magical Mystery Tour MOVIE was never aired in America, even though the LP came with a picture story of the movie. The movie itself had gotten such bad critical and equally poor audience reception (I'd imagine a lot of the viewership was families tuning in on Boxing Day to watch something together, and they got a weird aimless psychedelic home movie that confused the hell out of them), that ABC opted out of broadcasting it in January 1968-ish. So, Americans wouldn't really get to see that film until midnight showings occurred in the mid-1970s, followed by belated TV airings...
Oh, and the Magical Mystery Tour movie, much like Many Adventures, is just a silly delightful parade of whimsical misadventures...

As our relationship came to resemble that of Siamese twins, John renamed us "Shennon and Lotton". This, I'm sure you'll agree, constituted a definite improvement over "Winnie and Snowball"; it also (though I was hardly equipped to know it at the time) pointed up a number of incipient traits in John's character. For one thing, he could never, even then, leave a word alone. His spoonerism of "Shotton" and "Lennon", moreover, foreshadowed his lifelong habit of linking his name with those of the people he felt closest to (witness his crediting all his own Beatles songs to "Lennon-McCartney", or his jettisoning, at long last, the detested "Winston" in favor of "John Ono Lennon"). Though I have yet to encounter a personality as strong and individualistic as John's, he always had to have a partner. He never could abide the thought of getting stuck out on a limb all by himself.

5, 6 and 16 for Barry, Iris and Cisco :)
Not sure whether you wanted one for each of them or if you wanted the same ones for all of them, so I just did every possible headcanon/character combination here.
5. Fear headcanon
Barry has a slight fear of cats. It's nothing serious, he's just very wary around them because he can never read them and he's never sure what they want. Joe's aunt had a cat who would roll over like it wanted a belly rub, but when Barry would try to give it one, it would take a swipe at him. He still hasn't figured out why cats do that yet. Whenever he pets a cat, he only touches it very lightly because he doesn't want to set it off. When Cisco finally gets the house cat he's always wanted, he insists that it's harmless and very sweet, but Barry still doesn't know what to do with it. It hops up in his lap while he's eating a snack on Cisco's couch, and he goes very still because he doesn't want to anger it by not sharing. Cisco tells him to just push him off, but no way he's making enemies with a thing with claws (he's kinda forgotten about the whole having super speed thing for a moment). Kamilla ends up coming to his rescue and holding the cat so he can eat in peace. It's still staring at him, though.
Iris is used to having to be the brave one. At sleepovers, if she and her friends heard a weird noise at night, she would volunteer to go check it out so none of the other girls would have to admit to being afraid. Part of the reason she nudged Barry toward Felicity and threw shade at Becky Cooper was because she didn't want him to let fear hold him back from telling either girl how he felt (or at least how she thought he felt), and she thought he could use the validation. She chose to be a journalist because someone needed to report the truth even when everyone else was afraid to. This tendency has carried over to several other aspects of her life as well, and she's gotten so used to being brave for everyone else that sometimes she forgets that it's okay to let people see that she's afraid. Without consciously realizing it, one of the ways she knows she's found a solid friendship is when someone can see through her brave front, and they let her address her fears while they act as the brave one for her for a change.
Cisco's fear of bees goes back farther than he can remember. He's not sure how or when it started, but he knows it was already in full swing the first time he watched Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, as a small child still navigating basic motor skills. He can vividly remember being scared out of his wits when that mean bee laughed his buzzy laugh at Pooh getting stuck in the tree, and it was not a good time for him. It took him a few years to be able to watch that scene without wanting to leave the room. It doesn't scare him anymore, but he still doesn't like that bee. But one movie he is never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER watching again is My Girl.
6. Musical headcanon
Barry is the basic bitch of the group. He is the most likely to listen to Taylor Swift and The Beatles and other mainstream stuff like that, but of course he's also a big fan of musicals. He totally made a few music videos as a teen that he choreographed himself, and roped Iris into being in/filming a couple of them. At some point in his later teen years, he deleted all the evidence, but there's probably a home-burned DVD or a flash drive lying around somewhere that has a few survivors on it, including the Soulja Boy dance, which they were both so proud to have pulled off at the time.
Iris's taste in music has less to do with genre and more to do with how much of a visceral effect it has on her. She's a big fan of heavy bass lines and snappy tempos, and she loves anything she can dance to, whether slow and romantic or upbeat and noisy. She went to an *NSYNC concert when she was 12, and No Strings Attached is still one of her favorite songs of all time. She is also a big fan of En Vogue. She usually listens to music around the house with headphones, because if Barry walks in while she's grooving, he will embarrass her with his dad moves. But when she's driving to work, she lets it blast.
Cisco has the most All Over The Place taste in music out of anyone on Team Flash, and also the biggest music library, and the most playlists. He has (at least) one playlist completely dedicated to film scores, and another for songs used in memes. He has more songs he likes than songs he dislikes, but when he finds a song he truly hates, it Needs To Die ("Tom's Diner is trash, and I don't care who knows it!"). He's also a big time shower singer, and if it annoys you, that's your problem.
16. Appearance headcanon
Barry loves his signature quiff, but he secretly wants to have side bangs because he thinks they're cool. He's heard enough people make fun of guys with bangs that he's too afraid to get them himself, but he did enjoy that brief period with them right after coming out of the Speed Force. The best part of being Savitar was not caring what people thought anymore and getting to style his hair however he wanted, but he would never admit to that. That secret died with Savitar, but deep down, Barry already knows.
Iris has always been pretty confident about her appearance, but one thing she was on the fence about for a while was bright colored lipstick. She was just never sure if she could pull it off, so she would play it safe with neutral tones, and more often than not, she would just wear lipgloss instead. But after the whole Savitar thing and spending months thinking she was gonna die soon, she decided life's too short to be anxious about little things like that, so she started wearing bright lipstick more often, and she decided that she really, really loves it.
Cisco had to wear glasses when he was a kid, and he hated them because it just provided the bullies with more ammunition (especially when combined with the headgear). But he's too freaked out by the idea of having to touch his eyeballs to wear contacts, so as soon as he got off his parents' insurance plan and started taking care of his own medical expenses, he got LASIK surgery. THAT freaked him out a whole lot, too, but at least he knew it was only a one time thing. Ironically, he thinks glasses are sexy on other people, just not on himself. But he eventually got over that insecurity, and he fully embraced the Vibe goggles once he got comfortable using his powers.

Actually wait, Warrior Cats AU lmao. Nothing serious, mostly as a joke between me and my friends since we kind of try to make anything we are invested into a Warrior Cats au. Also it is fun to draw people as kitties.
Unrelated to EEnE, but too silly to not mention: I used to make more in-depth crossovers as a kid. I vividly remember writing a MLP: FiM AU that featured Ringo Starr from The Beatles as a blank flank pony 😭. I also had this other incredibly in-depth storyline involving Winnie The Pooh characters going on a journey in a cave to defeat a specific kind of evil. And meeting all these different characters from different properties I enjoyed as a kid that would correlate with different Beatle songs. I was like four when I made this, lol.

Favorite Movie Ramble :Jungle Book
So I didnt plan on watching this one today but I ended up watching Disney's classic The Jungle Book
Tumblr media
In this 1967 film Mowgli (Bruce Reitherman)is a human boy or "mancub " found by Bagheera the Panther (Sebastian Cabot) and raised by wolves until news that the man hating tiger Shere Khan (George Sanders) is nearby ,so Bagheera must take Mowgli to the man village which Mowgli is against and along the way they meet colorful characters :The swinging Orangutan King Louie (Louis Prima ) ,the voracious python Kaa (Sterling Holloway ) and the chill bear Baloo (Phil Harris)
So these are based on the Mowgli Stories from The Jungle Book and Second Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling ,which I have read and I am a fan of.....I will not compare these to the Kipling stories simply because this is by design a loose adaptation ,Walt Disney wanted a more hearted tale ....And I think he and the team of artists and animators succeeded .This is a very fun movie
Now there is one flaw with the film:Mowgli is ....Meh.Reitherman does a good job but the writing is the problem. He is kind of just tossed around with very little agency and I feel like his motive is....Wrong . Like youd think his reason for not wanting to go to the Man Village would be he doesnt want to leave the only home he has ever known or his beloved wolf family ......Ceeeeeeeeeeeept the wolves are an after thought and his motive is more the jungle is more fun .He has more of a connection with Baloo who he meets briefly.I dunno in my mind it mightve been better to scrap the wolves and just have Bagheera and Baloo raise Mowgli .....Yes it would make it less like the book, where Mowglis mother ,father and brothers are a HUGE part of the story, but again this is already a very loose adaptation
That out of the way ,I love this film .There are a few reasons why but most of them have to do with how fun the characters are ,whether they be good or mor dubious.Ones I dont hear people talk about are the vultures ,who are slightly parodies of the Beatles/British pop groups in general ,but I like their personalities ,instead of being vi.llains they are bored but friendly guys who genuinely try to help Mowgli . We also have a herd of militant elephants led by Colonel Hathi played by Disney veteren J PAt O Malley, who is a tone of fun (Also shout out to Disney veteren Verna Felton, whose role as Hathis wife Winifred is her final role and to child actor turned character actor Clint Howard who plays Junior,Hathi and Winfreds son )
Our main supporting characters are Bagheera and Baloo .Bagheera is the uptight grumpy panther trying to keep Mowgli on track while Baloo is the easy going slacker bear who just loves life . I love the way they play off each other ,the more serious minded Bagheera and the carefree Baloo, and you believe both their love of Mowgli and their friendship by the end .Sebastian Cabot makes Bagheera not just a stick in the mud,you really get that he cares about Mowgli and Phil Harris makes Baloo instantly endearing, kind of like that cool uncle
Now Classic Disney is famous for its villains and this film has three . First villain we meet is the comically sinister Kaa,a ravenous python who seeks to make a meal of Mowgli .Kaa is very odd character, definately dangerous with his hypnotic powers and of course being a hungry predator who wants to gobble up our main character.....But he is also a bit goofy, often getting in his own way and incurring his fare amount of slapstick .I think one of the things that makes him stand out is his VOICE ,provided by Sterling Holloway, most known for being friendly characters like Winnie the Pooh ,but here gets to give a sinister performance but while still having a sense of humor. Also the animation on Kaa is amazing ,like he is designed to seem impossibly long leading to some amazing visual
Our second villain is King Louie ,who a lot of people forget is a bad guy simply cause he is such a joy to watch but he has more far reaching goals then the other two villains . Louie wants to be like man,and the way to be like man is to learn the secret of fire ,so he kidnaps Mowgli.Thats pretty sinister.....But he is entirely comedic, with a charismatic performance by Jazz singer Louis Prima .Prima by all accounts LOVED playing Louie ,putting alot of himself into the character and creating a fun charming kind of wild guy who isnt malicious but definately selfish .His scene is one of the most fun in the film, and I will go into why later
The third villain is our main bad guy and my absolute favorite character in the film:Shere Khan . Shere Khan is a vicious tiger who DESPISES humans .....And he is actually barely in the film ,but the movie builds hi8m up ,from the begining of the film we hear many of the characters discuss how dangerous this tiger is ,and when we meet him in the third act we believe it. What I love is he is very calm, intelligent almost gentlemenly.....But with this deadlyness underneath ,that he is a remorseless killer .And the movie makes it clear,it is not about predatory instincts unlike Kaa , this guy fears what Mowgli will become and wants to kill him, eating him comes second .He is played by veteren villain actor George Sanders in what I personally think is my favorite role of his ,his droll delivery makes his menace more casual ....Also while he is intimidating he is not out of tone with the film ,there is a sense of humor to him ,but it is more of dry wit
Another stand out of the film is the CHARACTER animation.Like not only are the voice actors on point the animators show why animation is the same as acting .Of course you have the more wild scenes like Kaas villain song or the battle with the monkies which is a very enjoyable action scene.....But my two favorite scenes are actually dialogue scenes ,where the subtleties of the characters movements are just extraordinary. I love the scene where Kaa has caught Mowgli, only to be confronted by Shere Khan : Kaa is clearly terrified of Shere Khan ,but is straight up lying to him,and Shere Khan knows he is lying but is enjoying intimidating and testing him , while still maintaining his gentlemanly demeaner .My favorite scene however is just Baloo and Bagheera nighttime-dawn conversation about what to do with Mowgli, with Bagheera trying to convince Baloo not to adopt Mowgli, its a scene I find very emotional .Oh I also think the film has one of my favorite endings to a Disney film
Lets end on the songs, cause I think has one of the best soundtracks of Classic Disney .Like Ichabod and Mr Toad lets rank em
6.Colonel Hathis March -Its a marching song ,fun but not as memorable
5.My Own Home:Nice simple song
4.Thats What Friends Are For -A song by the vultures in a barbershop style and I personally think its underrated
Going forward these top three shift from day to day ,so in my heart these are all three number one
3.Trust In Me:this is the villain song for Kaa ,and it's actuall one of the few pure villain songs in the Walt era ,and might be my favorite villain song from Walt era Disney(Though it might be tied with another song in this movie ) .It is both soothing and sinister .Also as I said the visuals during this scene are great
2.Bare Necessities : OK this is the one everyone knows and I think it is a perfect song to sum up Baloo and it is very fun
1.I Wann Be Like You :King Louie's song Louis Prima SELLS this song .It catchy ,its entertaing ,its high energy ,and I always have to sing along when I hear it .I have always loved this song and it is one of my favorite Disney tune
Rewatching this I was reminded why I love this movie and if you havent seen it or its been a while ,watch it

Taking @wild-west-wind up on the "whoever wants to do this" invite for "name my Top 4 movies from the year I was born", as I was curious to find out what movies actually WERE released in 1968 (I knew "2001" was, but otherwise movies from before I could remember watching them all sort of exist in a nebulous time period).
So, for movies I genuinely like from that year, and that were also fairly important movies, history-of-cinema-wise: the original "The Producers" (Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder), "2001: A Space Odyssey" (most people find it boring but I love it), "The Lion in Winter" (because c'mon), and "Bullitt" (it was a little hard to pick a 4th, but I've seen Bullitt, it's a classic, and its car chase through the streets of San Francisco is pretty famous, though for a thriller, it's a slow and thoughtful movie by later standards).
Honorable mentions from that year, that I either haven't seen (but know of), didn't love enough to make my top 4, or didn't like: Barbarella; Yellow Submarine; Romeo and Juliet (Zeffirelli's); Planet of the Apes; The Odd Couple; Rosemary's Baby; The Thomas Crown Affair; Funny Girl; Oliver!; Night of the Living Dead; Head (the Monkees doing their version of The Beatles Hard Day's Night); Once Upon a Time in the West; The Love Bug; and Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (which would have replaced Bullitt, except it's a short and not a full movie).
I will also open this up to whoever would like to do it! Please do tag me if you do.

a/n: i promise you the only reason i wrote this was because of the Beatles song (it's called Till There Was You (which you should definitely listen to bc yes)) and i wanted to incorporate it somewhere in the ff and i didn't know where else to, so sorry if the one-liner sucked
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Come outside” was the last text you received from Seungmin. You quickly gathered your bag with necessities and headed straight for the door, only to be greeted with such a familiar face as your boyfriend’s.
“You really need to stop leaving the spare key under the mat,” he said as he waved said key. "Hi to you too,” you responded as you slipped on your shoes. Seungmin smiled as he opened the front door for you. You both exited the house, locking the door behind you. you both made your way to Seungmin’s car that was parked right outside your house. “So, where are we heading?”
“That’s a secret,'' Seungmin teased. Just over an hour ago, Seungmin had called you, telling you to get ready because you’d be going on a date. He could be kidnapping you right now for all you knew, but you entered the passenger's seat of his car anyway.
You had no idea where you were going. You passed a few familiar streets, each time trying to make guesses at where you were going. each guess, Seungmin denied. “Just tell me!” you whined as you gave up. “We’re almost there. You’ll know when we’re there.” You had been in the car for just over twenty minutes. Where could Seungmin have been taking you?
Suddenly, Seungmin pulled into the parking lot of a small park. There were a few cars, but you couldn’t see anyone walking around. “The park?” you asked, puzzled on why Seungmin would bring you to a park.
“Yep,” Seungmin replied as he parked and exited the car. You exited and followed him into the park. It was covered in soft, lush grass with small bushes of flowers. “Y/n,” Seungmin called as he held out his hand. You were too busy staring at the scenery to realize he had been saying your name for a while now. You apologized and quickly took his hand as he gently led you through the park, and eventually into a meadow on a hill. It was full of sweet, fragrant flowers, enlightening your nose with beautiful aromas while you climbed the hill. Eventually, you saw a large tree at the very top of the hill. It looked like something straight out of a movie, like My Neighbor Totoro or Winnie the pooh.
The moment you reached the top of the hill, your jaw dropped. A blanket was laid upon the grass with a small picnic basket and a large bouquet of flowers laid upon it. something inside you sparked. “No way! Seungmin, this is so beautiful!” you squealed as you jumped up and gave him a tight, loving embrace. “I hoped you would like it,” he admitted, returning the embrace. “I love it, Minnie!” you called out as you ran to sit on the blanket. This felt like something out of your fantasies. Seungmin made his way to the blanket and sat down next to you, resting his back on the large tree.
He pulled the picnic basket towards him. the moment he opened the lid, you knew what was inside. The sweet aroma of cookies, cupcakes, muffins, and other pastries filled the air as Seungmin pulled each item out of the basket, followed by two cold mini cartons of milk. “I didn't know if you would be hungry so I brought sweets. If you want to wait to eat them or get a bite afterward, it’s fine with me.” You were too busy enjoying one of the cookies to pay close attention to what Seungmin had said.
He couldn’t help but let out a laugh at the faces you were making. It looked like the cookie was the first thing you had eaten in months. “These are really good,” you managed to let out. You were almost halfway done with the cookie. “My mom made them,” he said. “Tell her I love them. They taste amazing!” Seungmin let out a small chuckle. “I’ll let her know.” You looked around at the graceful field of flowers and earth surrounding you. It had been a while since you had been face-to-face with wildlife that was this beautiful. The grass was a bit overgrown and the flowers were in beautiful bloom. Bees and other insects were doing their business in the fields as well. “Hey look! It’s a butterfly,” you acknowledged, pointing to the insect. You and your boyfriend watched the butterfly in silence, as it slowly inched closer to you both. “If you were a butterfly, you would be that one,” he whispered into your ear sweetly, trying not to startle the butterfly. You smiled at him, then turned to look back at the butterfly. It had landed on your finger.
You let out a small gasp. The butterfly began crawling up your arm, meanwhile, you tried to stay completely still. Both you and Seungmin watched in silence as you watched it crawl its way up to your forearm. It was almost halfway up until it suddenly decided to fly away. Your lips curled into a slight frown. “Ahh, don’t be sad. That was an amazing experience,” Seungmin said, wrapping his arm around you, and pulling you closer to him. “It flew away from me,” you said. “Sometimes the best things in life are just out of reach,” he said. Your head rested on his chest. He leaned back onto the tree, letting you adjust yourself and get a bit more comfortable, which you did. Your eyes slowly closed, focusing on your boyfriend’s heartbeat and the sounds around you. The bees buzzing, the birds chirping, the sounds of his breathing. It was all so calming.
Suddenly, there was a flash of light on your closed eyelids and you could hear hushed bickering. You opened your eyes and looked around the area, only to look upwards and see Jisung and Hyunjin with their phones out, holding onto tree branches for dear life while they whisper-argued about how stupid the other was.
You tried to contain your laughter, but it was hilarious. Seungmin let out a sigh. The jig was up. He smiled at you while he gently caressed your arm. Now both of you were staring at them. You couldn’t help but giggle now.
Jisung and Hyunjin both stopped and looked downwards once they heard your laughter, only to be faced with your and Seungmin’s eyes staring right back at them. It was silent for a moment before Jisung yelled, “Crikey, I think we’ve wandered too far into the wrong habitat!” “Yeah, it’s changing you too. You’re becoming Australian,” Hyunjin replied as they both tried to climb down the tree.
They scurried back to their car while you and Seungmin laughed your butts off at that encounter. “I think we’ve discovered the new Aussie line,” you joked. “I think we have too,” Seungmin agreed as he pulled you closer to him, wrapping his arms tighter around your body.
“I love you, you know?” you whispered. “I do know. You know, I’ve never loved anyone,” Seungmin said. “Till there was you.”
