Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) Masterpost

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) is a Vocal synth (Vocaloid and SynthV) music project. It consists of songs themed around different figures throughout Chinese history. The project is a collaboration between different artists and creatives, with music and videos featuring prominent traditional Chinese elements. The project's title translates to "The Records of Magnificence of the Wangchuan" - In Chinese mythology, "Wangchuan" (or River of Forgetting) is a river in the Underworld that can rid one of their past life's memories, similar to the river Lethe.

A mobile game adaptation has also been developed by NetEast. Unfortunately, I haven't played it so I can't give much insight on it. However, I assume that its premise is similar to that of the idea behind the project as a whole: all these historical figures meeting each other in the Underworld after they died. Maybe.

This blog is where I will be posting everything I feel like I need to say about the songs in this project. A lot of it is lifted from my Twitter account but will be in much more detail. Note that I probably won't touch collab songs, or songs that don't focus solely on the project's own characters.

Warriors Orochi: The Recollective Redux Part 2.1: Shu Story A

In the initial conflict with Orochi, the Shu kingdom was defeated among others, with one of its officers, Zhao Yun, being held in Ueda Castle. This is the beginning of the story…

Chapter 1: Battle of Ueda Castle 上田城の戦い

Coalition Army and Zuo Ci Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Zhao Yun, Xingcai, Yoshihiro Shimazu Third-party characters: Zuo Ci, Zhang Bao, Ginchiyo Tachibana, Toyohisa Shimazu Enemy characters: Cao Ren, Diamondback, Deng Ai, Zhong Hui, Yue Jin, Diaochan, Zhang He

In a cell inside Ueda Castle, Zhao Yun is losing hope, when Zuo Ci arrived with Xingcai and Yoshihiro Shimazu, bringing news that Liu Bei is still alive. Zuo Ci helps Zhao Yun escape, then tells him to head towards the west towards the escape point.

As they pass the path leading to where Zhang Bao is being held prisoner, Xingcai will inform Zhao Yun about this. Rescuing him is optional; if you rescue him, he will join Zuo Ci in distracting the Orochi Army, but even if you don’t rescue him (or if he is defeated), he will still join you at the end of the battle, having managed to find the group.

Mamushi is moved next to Cottonhead outside the northwestern garrison and thus Ginchiyo won’t appear until you head there to trigger his line.

Zhong Hui is in the east of the battlefield. He and Deng Ai will have lines when Zuo Ci appears to engage Cao Ren.

Toyohisa Shimazu will appear to engage Yue Jin when you approach the southwestern garrison. Diaochan is the other officer that appears alongside Yue Jin, with Xing Daorong moved to the northeast of the battlefield.

The player can defeat Cao Ren or Zhang He to escape the battlefield.

Chapter 2: Battle of Hasedō 長谷堂の戦い

Coalition Army and Yueying Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Zhao Yun, Zhang Bao, Toyohisa Shimazu Third-party characters: Yueying, Magoichi Saika Enemy characters: Yoshitsugu Ōtani, Da Ji, Pang De, Zhuge Liang, Guan Suo, Kojūrō Katakura, Mitsunari Ishida

Unlocked characters: Yueying, Magoichi Saika

Spotting Yueying captured by the Orochi Army, Zhao Yun and others head to her assistance. On the way, they meet Magoichi Saika, who also intends on rescuing Yueying.

Due to Guan Suo being upgraded to be a playable character, he will have some lines with Zhao Yun when he approaches him in the forest, but he will not reveal who is commanding him.

Chapter 3: Battle of Chengdu 成都の戦い

Coalition Army and Wei Yan Army vs. Yuan Shao Army → Da Ji Army Allied characters: Zhao Yun, Magoichi Saika, Yueying Third-party characters: Wei Yan, Xu Shu, Guan Yinping, Bao Sanniang Enemy characters: Yuan Shao, Yukimura Sanada, Nobuyuki Sanada, Da Ji

When asked of Liu Bei’s whereabouts, Magoichi mentions a girl seeing him in Chengdu. Zhao Yun immediately heads there, but they find that Chengdu is being attacked by Yuan Shao and Yukimura Sanada, tricked into thinking that the soldiers there were the spirits of the dead revived by Orochi.

Xu Shu, Guan Yinping and Bao Sanniang replace generic officers Wu Lan, Lei Tong and Liao Hua in Chengdu Castle alongside Wei Yan.

After Yukimura and Nobuyuki are defeated, they will join the Coalition Army.

Chapter 4: Battle of Nanzhong 南中の戦い (uses DW5 Conquest of Nanzhong map)

Coalition Army and Meng Huo Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Zhao Yun, Magoichi Saika Third-party characters: Meng Huo, Zhurong Enemy characters: Sima Yi, Zhang Liao, Xu Huang, Chen Gong, Diamondback, Sima Shi, Sima Zhao, Zhang Chunhua, Wang Yuanji, Jia Chong

Unlocked characters: Meng Huo, Zhurong

Zhao Yun’s Coalition Army chases Da Ji south to the lands of Nanzhong, where Meng Huo and his army managed to maintain its independence from Orochi. However, Sima Yi was about to unleash a plan to wipe out the Nanman tribes.

In addition to Wei officers Zhang Liao and Xu Huang, Sima Yi’s family, Jia Chong and Chen Gong also appear in this battle.

In the aftermath, Meng Huo and the Nanman army join Zhao Yun’s coalition. Magoichi hears that “someone big” is being held in Wu.

Chapter 5: Battle of Wujun 呉郡の戦い

Coalition Army (and Yuan Shao Troop) vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Ship Captain, Zhao Yun, Yukimura Sanada Third-party characters: Yuan Shao Enemy characters: Dong Zhuo, Lu Lingqi, Zhuge Liang, Fa Zheng, Sun Quan, Zhou Tai, Lianshi

Unlocked characters: Yuan Shao

After gaining intelligence that Liu Bei was being held in Xindi Castle, Zhao Yun and his men head to the Wu territories to find him. The Wu Army is being led by Sun Quan, serving under Orochi.

Lu Lingqi appears alongside Dong Min in the southeastern garrison where you pass through to defeat Zhuge Liang, who also needs to be defeated alongside Sun Quan.

Lianshi will appear alongside Sun Quan and Zhou Tai.

In the aftermath, Yuan Shao decides to join Zhao Yun and his army. He also knows where Liu Bei is being held, but he forgets where it is.

Chapter 6: Battle of Hulao Gate 虎牢関の戦い

Coalition Army and Sun Ce Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Zhao Yun Third-party characters: Sun Ce, Zhou Yu, Naotora Ii, Han Dang Enemy characters: Sima Yi, Cao Ren, Diaochan, Sima Shi, Zhang Chunhua, Deng Ai, Zhong Hui, Kotarō Fūma

Struggling to understand Zhuge Liang’s actions, Zhao Yun arrives at Hulao Gate, where Sun Ce is being attacked by Sima Yi of the Orochi Army. Zhao Yun advances to save him.

In this battle, Zhang Chunhua replaces Guo Huai, Sima Shi replaces the generic Sima Zhao and two generic officers will replace Xiahou Ba in the centre. In the southwest just past where Diaochan is, Deng Ai, Zhong Hui and a generic officer will be stationed there. There was also a messenger at the enemy main camp who doesn’t seem to serve any purpose other than to give 600 EXP when defeated. He is removed in this version.

In Sun Ce’s forces, Naotora Ii appears in place of Liu Gui (Han) and Han Dang replaces Zhu Ran for the execution of the fire attack.

After the battle, Sun Ce thanks Zhao Yun for his help, but says that he has to rescue his father at Ōsaka Castle. This triggers Yuan Shao’s memory, who says that Liu Bei is being held in Edo Castle.

Chapter 7: Battle of Edo Castle 江戸城の戦い

Coalition Army and Sun Ce Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Zhao Yun, Bao Sanniang, Guan Yinping, Nobuyuki Sanada, Xu Shu Third-party characters: Sun Ce, Naomasa Ii Enemy characters: Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Diamondback, Fa Zheng, Guan Xing, Guan Suo, Liu Shan, Zhuge Liang, Da Ji

Unlocked characters: Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Liu Shan, Guan Xing, Guan Suo, Fa Zheng

Zhao Yun quickly arrives at Edo Castle to rescue Liu Bei, following Yuan Shao’s recollections. Zhao Yun, Bao Sanniang and Zhang Bao head for the castle keep while Nobuyuki Sanada and Xu Shu act as bait to the enemy from the southern gate to the eastern gate.

In the southwest, Bao Sanniang appears in place of Zhang Bao and Guan Yinping appears in place of Wang Ping. Zhang Bao will have encounter lines with Zhang Fei and Guan Xing when you play as him. In the south, Xu Shu appears in place of Matabei Gotō, with Matabei’s lines being said by Nobuyuki Sanada in this battle.

Fa Zheng and Ma Su swap places in this battle, with Fa Zheng being in the keep while Ma Su is inside the western gate of Edo Castle.

Upon reaching the top floor of the main keep, there is an event with Liu Shan, Guan Xing and Guan Suo, who replace Shigezane Date, Dōkyū Yamagami and Shigenaga Honjō as the ambush unit there.

After Da Ji and Zhuge Liang are defeated, Zhuge Liang initially helps her escape, but then he traps her. Zhuge Liang reveals that he was waiting for Da Ji to drop her guard since she knows where Liu Bei is being held.

Sun Ce and Zhao Yun farewell each other, deciding that they will defeat Orochi with their own comrades. All the Shu officers in the battle join Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang in defeating Orochi and rescuing Liu Bei.

Chapter 8: Battle of Koshi Castle 古志城の戦い

Coalition Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Liu Shan, Zhuge Liang, Zhao Yun, Zhang Bao Enemy characters: Orochi, Da Ji, Lu Bu, Keiji Maeda, Diamondback

Unlocked characters: Liu Bei

Some variations have been made to the Chapter 8 Koshi Castle battles. In each faction’s version, they will fight one of Orochi’s main generals with the exception of Da Ji and Lu Bu, who will appear in each version. In this version of the battle, that general will be Keiji Maeda.

Liu Shan is added to this battle and is also one of the defeat conditions alongside Zhuge Liang.

After Orochi’s defeat, Liu Bei is freed and everyone goes to greet him.

Clouds and Rain: a (snarky) Character Index

I lured @math-is-magic​ into trying to read Clouds and Rain despite no prior knowledge of the Three Kingdoms era generally and she professed being impressed at how, long long ago when I read Romance of the Three Kingdoms for the first time, I made my own character glossary to keep track of who is who.

CAVEAT LECTOR: Historically accurate only to the degree that it pleases my pedantry. Departs from Dynasty Warriors in some key areas. Limited to characters that have (so far) appeared in the story directly.

Wu aka Sun Wu - Jiangdong - The Southlands

Colour Scheme? Red Animal Motif? Tiger Part of China? Southeast third, from the Yangtze (more or less) down, west about halfway. Heat, rivers, pirates, rice, fish. Motivation? Bonds Hearts? ON FIRE Enemy Camps? ALSO ON FIRE

Sun Quan, ruler of Wu, style name Zhongmou: Wow, who died and left this loser to rule? Well, that’s the problem, everybody died and left this loser to rule. Ever so slightly neurotic. *coughs* Kind of my problematic fave. Thinks everybody in Shu is out to get him. (Everybody in Shu IS out to get him.) Lianshi: Technically she ought to be Lady Bu but since Dynasty Warriors didn’t bother neither did I. Former lady-in-waiting to Sun Quan’s sister, nicest woman you’ll ever meet, Sun Quan is her problematic fave. Big ol’ tiddies. Lu Xun, Wu chancellor, style name Boyan: OUR HERO. 92.3% perfect gentleman and Confucian af. Gan Ning, Wu officer: Adorable kitten thinks of nothing but murder all day. Former pirate, semi-reformed psychopath. WEARS BELLS, it’s his thing. Used to be in the employ of another army, during which time he kinda sorta killed the father of... Ling Tong, Wu officer: Rich kid who made good in his own right. Wanted to kill Gan Ning for a long time (in revenge for his father’s death) but has mostly gotten over it and now they are best frenemies. (Note to history buffs: just GET OUT of here with your FACTS.) Shield of laziness and apathy. “I don’t care,” says Ling Tong, caringly, as he cares deeply. Zhou Tai, Wu officer: Sun Quan’s personal bodyguard. Former pirate. Tall, dark, and... scarred. Well, two out of three isn’t bad. The strong silent type. Zhu Ran, Wu officer: Lu Xun used to be Wu’s pyromaniac character. Then they introduced Zhu Ran to be the pyromaniac and actually made Lu Xun well-rounded, and Zhu Ran is slightly bitter about it. Also a Rich Kid. (Is Wu’s army all rich kids and pirates???? MAYBE.) Ding Feng, Wu officer: One-note character who looks like Frankenstein’s monster and writes poetry. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  Han Dang, Wu officer: One-note character who doesn’t want to be forgotten. Forget about him. Sun Shangxiang: Sun Quan’s younger sister, famous/infamous for being wild about martial arts and just generally wild. Arranged married to... (hold this thought...)

Shu aka Shu Han

Colour scheme? Green Animal motif? Dragon Part of China? At this point, the west-southwest. Smallest/least prosperous. Motivation? BENEVOLENCE Really? YES OF COURSE, BENEVOLENCE AND ONLY BENEVOLENCE. Pay no attention to the man behind the crane fan. What’s benevolence? 仁 Ren. Confucius says... no, come back, this isn’t a joke! Confucius really does say! Confucius says: Now the man of perfect virtue, wishing to be established himself, seeks also to establish others; wishing to be enlarged himself, he seeks also to enlarge others. What’s that guy doing over there behind the crane fan? NOTHING!!

Liu Bei, ruler of Shu: He was arranged married to Sun Shangxiang! (I hope you didn’t hurt yourself holding that thought.) Tenuously related to the imperial family but grew up poor af. Charismatic as hell. Wants to tell you the Good News about Benevolence. Liu Shan, crown prince, aka A-Dou: Unspecified, serious intellectual disability. Bears zero resemblance to the Dynasty Warriors version. Affectionate, gentle young man. Gets along really well with Zhao Yun and Sun Shangxiang. Zhuge Liang, prime minister of Shu, chief strategist, style name Kongming, Taoist name Crouching Dragon: The smuggest of snakes. He has a crane fan and he isn’t afraid to use it. Likes: his wife, his lord, his plans, sex magic, being an asshole. "I meant to do that,” he whispers, calmly, while falling at terminal velocity into a pit of vipers. Yueying aka Lady Huang, inventor: Zhuge Liang’s wife. Unspecified not neurotypical. Likes: machines, her husband. Dislikes: people, distractions, social cues. Very little resemblance to Dynasty Warriors character. Zhang Fei, Shu officer: Liu Bei’s sworn brother dating back to when they all weren’t shit, along with the dead Guan Yu. Designated youngest brothers because in Chinese culture it is Absolutely Vital We Know Who Is Older. Big, burly, loveable drunk. (Again, do NOT confuse me with the facts.) Zhang Bao, Shu officer: Zhang Fei’s son. Young and unproven and determined.  Grew up with Guan Yu’s children as pseudo-cousins. Xingcai aka Lady Zhang, Shu officer: Zhang Fei’s younger child. Xingcai is not here to make friends or play games. Xingcai is here to win. Unfortunately for Xingcai, her society dictates that ladylike behaviour means making friends and playing (diplomatic) games, not winning (on the battlefield). Guan Xing, Shu officer: The oldest natural child of Guan Yu. Honour, righteousness, honour, honour, rules, benevolence, honour, rules, and honour. Guan Suo, Shu officer: Youngest son of Guan Yu. In the wake of his father’s death, passive and disheartened. Guan Yinping: Youngest child of Guan Yu. Our heroine! Strong, sweet, determined, and genuine. Zhao Yun, Shu officer: One of Liu Bei’s first and best recruits to his cause. Famous for having single-handedly rescued Liu Shan as a baby while they were fleeing Cao Cao, fighting with the infant on his back. Madam Zhao aka Yunlu aka Lulu: Zhao Yun’s much younger wife, the sister of another officer in Shu, for some mysterious reason her identity is a (badly kept) secret, WHO could she POSSIBLY be? (People who know the answer: shhhhh.) Ma Chao, “the Splendid”: A multi-ethnic officer of Shu who joined because of wanting revenge against Cao Cao for the massacre of his clan. Yes, Ma Chao is Shu’s Sasuke. Catchphrase: JUSTICE. Ma Dai, “the guy who hangs out with Ma Chao”: Ma Chao’s cousin, trails along after Ma Chao trying to keep him from getting himself justiced to death. Colour scheme? Blue Animal motif? Phoenix Part of China? The entire north, from the coast to the west, including the cities with the strongest claim to be imperial capital in that time. Motivation? Ambition and power Isn’t that slightly evil? I mean, not necessarily, but they’re the antagonists so in fact yes. So they don’t get the same revisionism deal as the other two kingdoms? Nope. Is that fair? Nope! Show me on the map where I store my fucks.

Cao Pi, ruler and self-proclaimed emperor: I genuinely have a grievance against the historical guy but he was no worse than most of the rest of the people here. But in this story, the fictional Cao Pi is a supreme douchebag. Zhenji, empress: Too good for Cao Pi and this world. Don’t mistake my meaning; also kind of a bitch. A perfect bitch whom I would die for. Sima Yi, Wei prime minister: Genius strategist. Did not even originally want to join the Ambition Kingdom, but has caught the spirit in a big way now. Zhang Chunhua: Sima Yi’s wife, pulls the strings, literally. Thinks all problems can be solved with enough murders. Don’t think I’m saying she’s a bitch and I don’t like her. She’s a bitch, and I like her so much. Zhang He, Wei officer: Could host Queer Eye for the Third Century Guy. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee. Came to Wei from the same place as Zhenji and they are besties. Li Dian, Wei officer: Has a gut sense about things which is always right, unfortunately doesn’t stop things from happening, poor babe. A nice guy. Yue Jin, Wei officer: Smol and insecure about it, despite the fact that he could fuck you up. He can fuck anyone up. He can fuck himself up. BFF with Li Dian. Also a nice guy. Wang Yi, Wei officer: Hey remember how Cao Cao killed Ma Chao’s entire clan? Well while Ma Chao was attempting to get his revenge against Cao Cao, he whoopsy-doodle massacred Wang Yi’s entire clan. Now Wang Yi dreams of dancing with Ma Chao’s severed head in the moonlight. Xu Shu, Wei officer: Sad man who got tricked into leaving Shu because he loves his mama. Tries his best and deserved none of this. Jia Xu, Wei strategist: Loyal only to himself and shrewd, was an enemy strategist who came very near to killing Cao Cao at one time, but accepted being hired by him when he was captured. Does believe in doing his best.

5 Dramas That Should Be On Your Plan To Watch List!

I like to keep my plan to watch list long because I wouldn’t know what to do if I didn’t have a show to watch DRAMAS ARE LIFE. I put together a little list of dramas I think should be on everyone plan to watch list. Now, this is just my opinion I would love to hear your comments or suggestions.

1. A Little Thing Called First Love 

The story is about an unattractive 14-year-old girl who's secretly in love with the most popular boy in high school, You Nian. She tries to do everything in hopes to get his attention. 

2. The World Owes Me A First Love

An office romance story COUNT ME IN! Xing Yun a sketch artist is recruited by Xia Ke to work at his gaming company. He is, of course, a wealthy son who refused to take over his family company, He’s determined to make it on his own. Is your heart pounding yet? This story follows Xing Yun as she transforms from a sketch artist to a game designer and Xia Ke who is working to make his own. Things don’t go smoothly at first but eventually, the girl who has never been in love before is falling for her boss. 

3. Smile Time

Have you seen “The Brightest Star In The Sky”? Did you love it? If so the next two recommendations are for you! Smile Time follows celebrity assistant Qian Niao who is assigned to five idol trainees preparing to debut. Each Trainee is different but the all share a common goal and passion for music and dance. 

4. Romance With A Star

A story between a celebrity and a neighborhood girl who becomes his manager. This story really reminds me of “ The Brightest Star In the Sky”. From the Synopsis provided by My Drama List. It looks like the celebrity will lose fame and the manager will build him back up. I’m very interested to see how this drama will go because the leads are older and this seems like a “young drama”. Ivy Chan the female lead is 36yo and Jerry Jia the male lead is 35yo. Depending on the storyline the leads may not fit the part, However, good chemistry can change alot. 

5. My Robot Boyfriend 

The first thing I thought of when I heard the title was CYBORG! The synopsis seems promising. Medical Student Lin Mo Bai ( Jiang Chao) gets into a car accident while on a medical trip and his father performs reconstructive surgery on him using artificial intelligence. Journalist Jiang Meng Yan ( Rachel Mao) meets Lin Mo Bai by accident and falls in love at first sight and let the love story begin.
