Fluent Freshman - Part 23
PREVIOUS
There were a few reasons that Andrew and Neil could not get past reception to go see FF or get updates on his current condition.
The first reason was that visiting hours were long over by the time they had arrived a little after midnight.
The second reason was that hospitals, in general, don’t just give out information on their patients to any random person that walks in and asks for an update on their condition. They are ESPECIALLY hesitant to give out updates on patients when the people who are asking can’t give you anything other than a first name, general description, and the reason that the patient is in the hospital.
Somehow “Completely average looking guy with the last name Smith who was stabbed in the stomach” is not enough for the receptionist to go off of.
“There are multiple people here that fit that description. I would need at least a first and last name before I could even begin to start seeing if you were someone who we even could give updates to. No, I will not continue to play your fun little game of guess the first name.” She says when Andrew opens his mouth to start listing off names alphabetically again.
So now Andrew and Neil found themselves under the watchful eye of a security guard as they sat in the back corner of the front reception area.
“I can’t believe we still don’t know what Smith’s first name is.” Neil says his face is buried in his hands as he and Andrew sit in the uncomfortable chairs trying to figure out where to go from here.
“I think she knows exactly who we want to see.” Andrew scowls towards the receptionist who, long used to the ire of the public, pays him no mind. Andrew just refused to believe that there were that many brown haired, brown eyed, average height and weight guys who had suffered a stab wound to the stomach that would have been admitted in the last two hours.
“I just hope they actually are looking after him and that no one went and forgot about him in an hallway somewhere.” Neil says hands sliding up into his hair to grip.
“That wouldn’t happen.” Andrew dismisses despite knowing that Wymack had ABSOLUTELY forgotten FF at a stadium once during the period where FF had been low presence to keep his family from bothering him.
The U-turn he had pulled had definitely been illegal when FF called and asked where the bus was when they had been on the road for five minutes. Wymack had felt terrible about it but FF had just seemed relieved that the bus had come back for him.
Wymack.
Andrew pulls out his phone and dials a familiar number. Wymack, reliable as always, picks up on the fourth ring with the sound of cursing as he got the phone up to his ear. “What.” He asks and Andrew can hear the sounds of driving and Kevin’s infamously train-like snoring in the background.
“What’s Smith first name. You know it.” Andrew demands.
“Classified.” Wymack clips back immediately.
“I need to know it so that we can get updates.” Andrew hisses.
“He isn’t interested in people knowing it and you wouldn’t be able to get updates anyways.” Wymack dismisses.
“We want to be able to head back to see him.” Neil tries.
“Visiting hours are long over Josten. You know that I’m not settling that bet that you little fuckers have floating around about this.” Wymack responds back.
Andrew grits his teeth and then forces himself to relax his jaw, “It’s not about the bet.” Andrew shuts his eyes in irritation.
That stupid bet.
The betting culture within the Palmetto State Foxes Exy team that Reynold’s had cultivated held strong even after her graduation with the remaining Foxes. The Bet had started when one of the other freshmen had mentioned that it was funny that FF went around like Cher or Madonna. The realization that none of them knew FF’s first name was one that had them placing bets on a multitude of things. Things like: “Do you wanna bet it’s a super normal boring name?”, “Do you wanna bet that it’s a weird foreign name?”, and “Is FF intentionally not giving it out to people or since he goes by his last name normally he has no idea that anything is amiss?” Had lower pools since you were betting on a spectrum. The bet with the highest pool is: “What is FF’s first name”.
Wymack had categorically refused to answer it and all other attempts to discover FF’s first name had been met with frustration. There was a solemn agreement that no one could just go and outright ask him since that would ruin all of the fun. Andrew had agreed to not ask when the team had collectively filled his freezer with ice cream cake and he was a man of his word.
The general belief (after the revelation of his major and the number of languages FF spoke) was that FF’s name was just not easy to pronounce for English speakers.
Andrew hadn’t participated but he know that the Foxes do have a running list of names they know it’s not. (Greg, Will, Smith (again), Matt, Kevin, Neil, Andrew, Aaron, Nathaniel, Jack, Beyonce (Sheena’s drunken guess), Nicholas, John, Fred, Garfield, Frank, Alfred, Augustus, Adam, etc. (Andrew had been trying to guess with the receptionist for a while))
“You’re coming here aren’t you? We can get updates when you get them.” Neil says.
“He’s in emergency surgery right now and will remain there for the next few hours most likely. There’s not going to be any updates hopefully.” Wymack says with a sigh loud enough that they can hear it over Kevin’s snoring.
“Surgery? He needs surgery?” Neil asks sounding surprised s if FF hadn’t been stabbed to the hilt into his stomach with one of Andrew’s knives. He’s about to give Neil some shit for the question before remembering that if there was any person who would think that a stab wound to the stomach wouldn’t necessitate surgery it would be Neil “I’m Fine” Josten.
“Yes Josten, he needs surgery. They have to stitch up his stomach and the surgeons are also going to be dealing with some of the ulcers that were ruptured by the knife.” Wymack explains likely coming to the same conclusion that Andrew had on Neil’s stupid question. “They were a bit worried about him bleeding out but he stabilized before the surgery.” Wymack sighs.
“I’m going the hospital since I’m Smith’s medical proxy. If anything goes wrong with the surgery I want to be there so I can make an informed decision on his care.” Wymack says and… Andrew figured there’d be surgery but to hear it and the possibility that something could go wrong, that the last thing FF had said to him had been something non-sensical about “Gracie Hart wouldn’t have gotten stabbed. I’m Cheryl at best.”as he’d started succumbing to all the blood loss. “If you could stick around long enough for me to drop Kevin off with you I would appreciate it.” Wymack says.
“What if he needs a blood transfusion?” Andrew says.
“Smith is AB-, it’s the second easiest blood type to transfuse into. Go home Andrew.” Wymack repeats.
Andrew works his jaw irritated that there didn’t seem to be a path to getting his way.
“We’ll stay here until you get here.” Andrew agrees, “But you’ll get an update before we leave.” He adds.
Wymack sighs, “Fair enough.” He says before hanging up.
It’s 45 minutes of waiting and tossing a few more name possibilities at the receptionist who seems more amused than anything at their continued attempts to guess their friend’s first name (Neil goes through the entire list of names that he’s gone by and none of them get the thumbs up).
Wymack comes through the doors with a half awake Kevin Day following his steps. “I have another favor to ask you.” Wymack says instead of any form of greeting.
“I’m not going to leave Kevin in the car overnight again. It was just that one time.” Andrew says with a roll of his eyes and honestly he’d been punished enough listening to Kevin bitch, moan, and sneeze for the following week while talking about all the supplements he was taking.
“Not that,” Wymack pauses, “I have two favors to ask you. First don’t do that. Second, would you be able to pick up Smith’s grandma from the airport tomorrow?” He asks.
Andrew blinks.
“She’s coming here?” He asks.
“I updated her on my way here. She booked a flight and will be arriving around noon tomorrow.” Wymack says and Andrew doesn’t know why he’s confused by this. FF’s grandma got him two still warm pies to cheer him up on Thanksgiving.
He’d stabbed that woman’s grandson.
“I’ll pick her up.” He agrees.

also reposting this kevjerejean drabble request from @deadliestpieceontheboard that's also from 3 years ago lmao even though my writing style is horrendous i'm just deleting my old ao3 and i want to keep my old aftg pieces somewhere
“-and then the Trojans will be there,” Kevin rambles on, giving Jean a rundown on all the other exy teams who were going to be at this year’s spring banquet. “Which means Jeremy Knox will be here and god Jean he is so attractive.” “I wouldn’t trust your opinion if I hadn’t seen his face before. Sadly I can agree with you and your horrible taste.”
“Okay but as a ‘no longer sure I’m as straight as I thought I was’ guy the fact that he could propose and I would say yes without a second thought means something right?” “He’s the captain of the Trojans and with your obsession with exy and their team god knows if you’d actually be marrying him for him and not exy.” Jean sighs, dragging a hand over his face. “I am not doing boy talk with you.” Jean starts off down the hall towards the girls dorms, presumably in search of Renee or maybe even Allison, and Kevin stops in his tracks. “We’ll continue this conversation on the bus!”
True to his word Kevin slides onto the seat in front of Jean near the back of the bus a few hours later. Jean refuses to acknowledge him, hoping to wait him out. When he sees Kevin open his stupid mouth, perhaps a little too focused on his lips, Jean debates grabbing his earbuds in a silent but clear demand to leave him alone. In the end his own curiosity wins out and he looks up at Kevin with a bored expression. It’s not like anything bad could come out of listening to Kevin talk about his crush on Jeremy Knox. It turns out something very very bad could come from listening to Kevin talk about his crush on Jeremy Knox. That stupid fluttery feeling in his chest when Jeremy Knox reached out to shake his hand was 100% Kevin Day’s fault. His only solace was that Kevin looked every bit the love-sick puppy that Jean felt.
Damn Kevin Day and his stupid smile and charming words and somehow infecting Jean with his own ridiculous feelings for Jeremy. And damn Jeremy Knox who seemed to be sunshine personified with his bright laughter and kind sentiments and Jean could understand now how it was so easy to catch feelings for the golden boy. And damn him for this stupid crush and ridiculous insta-love that seemed to be overtaking him.
“We’re excited to having you joining the trojans next semester, Jean,” Jeremy eagerly tells him. “Alvarez is already itching to talk tactics with you but I made the team promise not to come up and bombard you with exy talk tonight.”
The three have been walking laps around the room for the past half hour, talking about anything and everything. The constant movement helps Jean relax a little even though he was still all too aware of all the people crowded in the room. He supposes he can give a little credit to Kevin who’s letting him squeeze his hand so hard he’s probably cut off the circulation.
He’s almost certain Jeremy has noticed but is kind enough not to say anything. Even when he sends Jean a sympathetic look that Jean has to resist scowling at regardless of how much he appreciates it.
They end up trailing out of the room and into an empty hallway where Jean doesn’t even try to pretend he isn’t relieved as he sinks to the floor, knees curling to his chest. His hand still squeezes Kevin’s hanging in the air awkwardly for the brief he remains standing. Again Jeremy doesn’t ask but sits down and leans against the wall across from them.
“Crowds.” Jean says, responding to the question he knows Jeremy won’t ask. “I’m not a fan.”
“Understandable, Laila hates them too and always has to slip out for some fresh air. Count it as a win that you didn’t start throwing up in there. That happened to me once. Karina Tyler approached me at a winter banquet and I got so nervous that I just puked right there.” Jeremy laughs as if it’s a fond memory. “Such an embarrassing moment, I never thought I’d recover.” Jean’s lips quirk up and he can feel Kevin’s grin against his forehead. “I’ll keep in mind that vomiting at a banquet isn’t a good idea.”
Jeremy laughs again and Jean remembers reading a post from a fan once that they wanted to bottle the sound and as stupid as it seems Jean finds he can understand why. Again he blames Kevin fucking Day for infecting him with this silly little crush.
“I told you he was amazing.”
“Yes, yes and you were right. For the second time today I, unfortunately, find myself agreeing with you.”
Kevin looks all too pleased with himself at that confession. It becomes more and more ridiculous as Jean thinks about it, his boyfriend’s silly crush had also become his silly crush, and what the hell happens when they’re dating yet crushing on the same person? “We could always ask him out,” Kevin suggests and Jean has to pause, contemplating whether or not he had asked his question aloud. “Maybe I can come with you when you fly out to USC this summer, we can test the waters and see if he wants to go on a date.”
“Stop being the logical one,” Jean scoffs, flicking Kevin on the nose, “it’s not a good look for you.”

aaron minyard has a tiktok account that none of the foxes know about. it’s not a private account, but his name isn’t in the username so it should be undiscoverable. on said tiktok account, he posts thirst traps. yes. i’m talking red led lights, hand aggressively reaching out to grab the phone, head straining backwards, winking, everything you may or may not want to imagine.
neil finds it on his fyp (don’t ask) and is utterly shocked (not in a good way). matt is with him and sees how neil is looking at his phone, eyes wide and jaw completely dropped. matt quietly asks,“neil?” before neil slowly turns the phone around to show matt. matt lets out a gasp of horror. he grabs the phone from neils trembling hands and runs to show the rest of the foxes.
these are the comments aaron receives in the next 5 minutes:
nicky: “bro’s looking heavenly💀”
allison: “aw aaron i wasn’t aware of this special talent of yours! why didn’t you tell us sooner?!”
renee, replying to allison: i think it’s great that he is able to express himself in such a creative way! i support you, aaron :)
neil: to everyone fangirling over him, apparently he’s only 5’0 (but you didn’t hear this from me)
andrew: no.
dan: as team captain i simply cannot allow this.
matt: dan pick me up i’m scared
seth: *blocks*
kevin doesn’t comment. he can’t risk the foxes finding his account, too.
after reading these comments, there is a possibility that aaron called katelyn and sobbed in her arms for a good 2 hours.

Manifesting OFMD second season by writing down my ever growing wishlist of things I want to see in the future:
- LUCIUS IS ALIVE
- Stede Bonnet, berserker era.
- The Queen Anne’s Revenge, either being captured or coming back as the ship Ed left behind when he went to The Revenge.
- The Blockade of Charleston (and make really absurd).
- Anne Bonny and Mary Read (as middle aged women who kinda mirror Ed and Stede, but they did it right)
- Since he was already mentioned in s1, it would make sense introducing Hornigold, maybe as a new antagonist or something.
- A rip off of that wwdits episode with the Vampire Council, except this time is the Pirate Council and its members are pirates from other movies and shows*
- On that note, a really weird episode with every person who has played Blackbeard in recent years**
- More women and more asian characters. And more people speaking their mother tongues.
- Ed finding out about Stede’s death and believing it.
- Ed meeting Mary and getting along.
- Frenchie adopting a cat (and singing a song about it).
- More info about everyone’s pasts.
- I was going to name some people who should make a cameo but I'd never be able to stop.
- I would LOVE having Bartholomew Roberts in the show. He invented the pirate code, he's supposed to have been really into fine things and clothes and tea, didn’t drink alcohol, and he was Welsh (just the other day I saw someone’s post asking for more welsh accents in pirate movies/shows). He could be used for that sitcom trope where one of the otp starts dating someone new who is just like the other half of the otp and everyone notices it but them.
*Possible council members, most of them only possible in my wildest dreams:
- Geena Davis as Morgan from Cutthroat Island
- Someone from Black Sails
- Someone from PoTC (Keira Knightley or Geoffrey Rush would be awesome)
- Robert De Niro as Captain Shakespeare from Stardust
- Cary Elwes or Mandy Patinkin as the Dread Pirate Roberts (now that I think it... I’ll include this up in the previous list). If it was Mandy Patinkin it'd have the bonus point of seeing Jim with Iñigo Montoya <3
- I would literally die if Tim Curry showed up, but it’s highly unlikely due to his health issues. So maybe the puppet they made for him could show up?
- Was Kabir Bedi famous in the US? Because that would also be an awesome cameo (although he must be old as fuck at this point, and I’m aware no one remembers Sandokan these days)
- Eddie Lizzard as Long John Silver from this movie, but bringing in her genderfluid identity.
- JASON ISAACS AS HOOK? (the only reason I’ve watched that movie)
- It seems Rhys Ifans also played Hook. How many Hooks are they?
- There was also a Hook in OUAT, but I’m not a fan.
- I’ve just found out that Brian Blessed voiced the Pirate King here, and since every show or movie is improved by Brian Blessed presence, I’d say yes please.
- Kevin Kline was also a pirate king once.
**People who played Blackbeard (I just did some research for this, and there are way more than I’ve expected):
- Ray Stevenson <3
- Angus MacFadyen
- Mark Bonnar
- Ian McShane
- James Purefoy
- Hugh Jackman ????
- OMG JOHN MALKOVICH???
- The original maori Blackbeard
- This guy in this thing
- This other guy
- Apparently there was also a Blackbeard in OUAT
- I think it’s enough

¿What if Project Insight succeeded in Captain America the Winter Soldier?
To: Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, the Russo Bros., Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios                                                                                                                    Intro
¿What if events went differently in the MCU? ¿What if Project Insight succeeded in Captain America the Winter Soldier? In today’s fan fiction we’re going to be exploring what would have happened if Hydra’s long awaited project became a success killing Captain America, the Avengers and most of the heroes of the MCU respectively. ¿How can this affect Civil War going forward? This an original what if created by me following the mythology of Captain America and the Winter Soldier and the timeline of the MCU. Without wasting anymore time sit back and relax and enjoy this fan fiction.                                                        Prologue
Since the beginning of time, the age long argument has been whether man gets to control his future or not. The answer is yes and no. Man gets to control his future by the choices he makes. An individual alias a third party, can alter the future of another man by changing his choice slightly. Even if a choice is made a few minutes or seconds earlier this results in a whole new story for the individual and the people who his choice affects. Project Insight was originally supported by the World Security Council and the United States Department of Defense. It was a project designed to eliminate any potential threats to the citizens of Earth before they actually happened. It consisted of three heavily armed satellite-linked Helicarrier which would take out their targets before the targets would be aware of it. In your universe Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff managed to foil the plans of Hydra by changing the systems of the Helicarriers to fire at each other hence terminating Project Insight. In the Agents of Shield timeline Project Insight was successful by the thought by the thought of the Shield agents from the future timeline. In this fanfic timeline we will explore a new universe where Hydra’s long-awaited plan of Project Insight becomes a success. I am one of the Watchers and i am ur guide to these vast new realities. Follow me and pounder the question. What if...
                                                           Act 1
The events of the Winter Soldier were playing out the same as in your universe. With over 715,854 individuals targeted by Project Insight Hydra's main commanding office Alexander Pierce told Nick Fury that Project Insight would kill around 20 million people in total on Earth as the algorithm of Project Insight was already hacked with Arnim Zola’s algorithm but instead of targeting individuals that are in danger to the world individuals that were a threat to Hydra was targeted. In this universe the movie would mostly play out the same but these are the moments that change the timeline. The Winter Soldier managed to successfully kill Nick Fury in the interrogation scene. Hydra had discovered Natasha Romanoff disguised as a Hydra agent and shot her down dead. Maria Hill and Sam Wilson tried to fight off Hydra but they were killed and when Steve battled Bucky just at the moment that Steve was about to stop the Helicarrier machines from activating the targets Bucky shot him in the head killing him for good. The heroes have failed. Project Insight then became active and the Helicarriers aimed towards all of their targets. Alexander Pierce gave the command and the Helicarriers started killing all the individuals who were at threat to them. Tony Stark who was still recovering from the events of the Mandarin and Aldrich Killian at his home was shot and Stephen Strange who had yet to become the Sorcerer Supreme was also killed. Other victims include Hank Pym, Rhodey Rhodes, Pepper Potts, the Agents of Shield, General Ross, Jane Foster, Erik Selvig and Clint Barton who were all key members and allies of the Avengers that disintegrated from the attack. Although Bruce Banner was not in his Hulk form and got shot in the head because he wasn't aware that he was being targeted the gamma radiation in his system managed to save him unleashing the Hulk and becoming a fugitive from Project Insight but even the President of the United States was also killed. The news then reported a massive number of individuals who were killed on television but the Avengers were destroyed as there were no surviving members except for Thor and Hulk. A few hours later Hydra began a military lead by Brock Rumlow alias Crossbones while Bucky Barnes who was still brainwashed under Hydra was given the mantle of Captain America or better yet Captain Hydra wearing a green uniform with a shield and taking charge. Soon the whole of the US government crumpled as anyone who posed the threat soon came under Project Insight’s algorithm and were killed. Shield no longer existed and Hydra’s sleeper agents took control of Shield’s base. Thor was still in Asgard after the events of the Dark World and therefore he wasn’t aware of what was going on. Baron Strucker continued with the research of the Mind Stone on the Maximoff twins but Hydra was still in possession of the Mind Stone from Loki’s scepter so as a result Wanda and Pietro continued to be loyal members of Hydra along with Crossbones and Captain Hydra. Arnim Zola continued to supervise over Hydra and had a physical body just like the original comics. Hydra soon took over Stark Industries and began to deploy its scientists there. They started equipping their soldiers with Stark tech while Darren Cross alias Yellowjacket worked closely with Hydra to deploy Yellowjacket units to the US government but Darren managed to perfect the weaponized suits after Hydra handed him the paperwork of the Ant-Man project by Hank Pym after his death therefore Hydra continued to rule and terrorized the world with their one world government.
                                                                                              Act 2
2 years have passed since Hydra's invasion of the world and it’s now 2016. Ultron and Vision were never created as there was no Avengers and therefore the Ultron project never came to be. The events of Doctor Strange would then take place as Kaecilius attempted to steal the Time Stone from the Ancient One but with Project Insight activated Hydra reported that the Ancient One and Kaecilius were a threat too. The Helicarriers then shot both of them down killing them for good while Pierce dispatched Wanda and Pietro to get a hold of the Time Stone as another artifact to their collection in addition to the Mind Stone. As Wanda and Pietro arrived they saw the Ancient One and Kaecilius with his other minions already dead too. They were about to retrieve the Time Stone before they were being halted as a man came out of the shadows and said that the Time Stone needs to be in the custody of the Sorcerer Supreme. Someone who is known in the Mystic Arts introducing himself as Baron Mordo and that he would be willing to work with Hydra to eradicate the over-existing number of sorcerers on Earth but he cannot hand it over the Time Stone as if it falls into the wrong hands it could activate Dormammu who is a powerful being that would consume the whole of Earth. Pierce decided to allow Baron Mordo to wield the Time Stone in exchange for loyalty to Hydra to which he accepted.
                                                                                           Act 3
Meanwhile king T’Chaka remains the king of Wakanda as he was not assassinated in the bombing of Vienna due to the absence of the Civil War storyline but Okoye and Shuri told T’Chaka and T’Challa of the emergency of Hydra and its tyranny around the world. They said that they cannot reveal Wakanda to the world as they have been isolating themselves for over 2,000 years while Thor returned to Earth and he was shocked to see what had happened but he decided to keep a low profile as he didn't want to escalate the situation. Thor did some research and came across the Sanctum Sanctorum as he also wanted to know where his father Odin was. He decided to seek help from there as Baron Mordo introduced himself to Thor as the Sorcerer Supreme but Mordo also alerted Hydra that the God of Thunder has arrived on Earth saying that Odin is somewhere on Earth and he would only help him if Thor were to pledge his allegiance to Hydra. He said that Hydra are the new protectors of Earth as Thor remembered Steve Rogers telling him how Hydra was evil and how they were involved with the Tesseract. Thor then attacked Baron Mordo as he managed to trap him in the Mirror Dimension but after releasing him from the Mirror Dimension Wanda put hallucinations inside Thor’s mind and Hydra arrested Thor. They figured that since he is a god he would be better to have him on their side instead of killing him.
                                                                                           Act 4
Meanwhile, in Wakanda Killmonger has obtained the secret entrance to Wakanda from Klaw after killing him and Killmonger went to meet with king T’Chaka just like the original Black Panther film. He challenged for the right to the throne but the current leader of Wakanda was not T’Challa rather his father T’Chaka as before he challenged he told Wakanda to reveal themselves to the world because while Hydra is ruling the world Wakanda could rise and share their tech with Hydra. T’Chaka disagrees and said that Hydra would then betray Wakanda. Killmonger decided not to challenge for the throne yet but he left Wakanda and decided to inform Hydra about the country instead. At first Pierce was doubtful about Killmonger since he was just an assassin but then Killmonger told them about the vibranium technology which was originally used for Captain America’s shield saying that in exchange for the vibranium technology and control over Wakanda he wants to be the new ruler of the country. Pierce felt that it was a fair deal and told the Hydra army to focus on Wakanda. As Wakanda was out of scope then Project Insight were not able to enter Wakanda yet as they would have to manually wage a war against them first to gain viability of wakanda but Hydra eventually waged a war against Wakanda to obtain their vibranium resources led by Captain Hydra and Crossbones. Hydra’s soldiers who were already equipped with Yellowjacket suits along with Wanda, Pietro and Mordo were also deployed and the war was broadcasted live on tv.
                                                                                      Act 5
Meanwhile, Thor was still held captive and Odin was still on Earth. Odin warned Thor of Ragnarok in his dreams but Thor was still powerless to do anything while the Guardians of the Galaxy would still be formed unaffected by the events on Earth and Captain Marvel was still alive unaware of Project Insight but she will be an important asset to our story later on. Loki was still ruling over Asgard disguised as Odin but as Thor and Loki never met they weren’t aware of the impending doom of Ragnarok. Odin soon died and went to Valhalla. While Wakanda and Hydra were at war Hela was freed from her prison. She went to Asgard while being confronted by thousands of Asgardian soldiers and the Warriors 3. Hela knew that Odin was dead as she told the other Asgardians that Odin was already dead and that she was proof of Odin’s death. She then killed several Asgardian guards with ease who wanted to arrest her as she then threw her necroswords to Loki and removed his disguise. Everyone was shocked to see that it was Loki all this time as Hela then told the others that she wants to continue the conquest of the 9 realms and that they should begin with Midgard. She said that as Loki's elder sister she would not want to slaughter him unless he poses a threat to her as Loki, the Warriors 3 and the other Asgardians decided to submit to Hela. Loki said that his brother Thor was still imprisoned on Earth but Hela said that she would want to have a reunion with Thor as well so that  they can continue Odin's legacy and she told the Asgardians to prepare for their conquest reviving her undead army and her wolf Fenris.  As Asgard survived and there was no Ragnarok due to Hela being the ruler of Asgard Thanos was not able to hijack the Asgardian spaceship as in your universe. Nevertheless Thanos decimated Xandar and obtained the Power Stone. With an Infinity Stone at hand he decided to shift his targets to the Soul and Reality Stones first. Back on Earth Wakanda was already being bombarded continuously by the Hydra Helicarriers as they were on the brink of breaching the defenses when suddenly a portal opened in the sky but both Wakandans and Hydra were shocked to see what was going on. They heard a declaration from a woman who proclaimed herself as the new queen of Asgard and that she has come to rule Midgard. The conquest of the 9 realms have begun as Hela then brought 4th her troops from the Bifrost Bridge but Pierce instructed the Helicarriers to shoot at the Asgardians for now and the Asgardians were decimated at first from the high-powered cannons from the Helicarriers. As Hela and the rest were unable to pinpoint the exact location of the Helicarriers Loki said that their best bet would be to use the Tesseract to immediately teleport to Hydra's base. Hela agreed and while the Helicarriers were targeting the Asgardians Wakanda’s barrier was almost on the verge of destruction. Loki and the warriors 3 teleported themselves with the Space Stone to the Hydra base where the main command center of the Helicarriers were located. They killed the Hydra agents who were guarding it and also found Thor who was still brainwashed by Wanda’s hallucinations but Thor was still not in a good shape for combat. Now I could have Hela destroy Hydra but no because I wanna keep them around for the next significant event.
                                                                                            Final act
Meanwhile, the Mad Titan has collected the Reality and Soul Stones after decimating Knowhere and sacrificing Gamora. Thanos now had 4 stones in possession and knew that the last 3 stones were all on Earth. Ebony Maw told him how Hela and the Asgardians were at war with Wakanda and Hydra. Thanos saw all this and told his Black Order to prepare their armies as they would now head to Earth to retrieve the Space, Time and Mind Stones respectively. Back on Earth, Hela escaped the Helicarrier along with Thor, Loki and the Warriors 3 and started battling Wakanda and Hydra. Hulk then entered the battlefield using a massive clap to kill several Hydra agents. Just then the sky turned black as all 3 sides saw a massive ship entering the atmosphere. They could not believe it. Everyone on Earth was just witnessing the return of the Chituari. Thanos and his armies then came 4th and Pierce told them that they were trespassing on Earth telling them to go back to where they came from. Thanos ignored the speech and used the Power Stone to lift the Helicarriers before dropping them on top of all the Hydra agents thus destroying Hydra and Project Insight. Thanos then bombarded Wakanda with his own ship. Loki then interfered and tried to bargain with Thanos about giving him another chance to help him. Thanos said that Loki failed him in 2012 and knew that it was pointless as he was the God of Mischief and was unpredictable. Pierce then shot Thanos but it was pointless while Loki tried to stab him but failed. Thanos then grabbed both Loki and Pierce by the neck choking him to death in front of everyone live on tv obtaining the Mind Stone from Loki’s scepter. Thor was furious at Thanos for killing his brother and threw his hammer but Ebony Maw managed to deflect it. Thanos used his sword imbedded with the Power Stone to kill Crossbones and Quicksliver. Just then the Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel arrived on Earth seeing everything that had happened. Carol Danvers was horrified to see Earth and saw that Fury was killed by Hydra. Nevertheless, Hela and Thor went to Asgard to face Thanos as their power grows more stronger there while the Wakandans and Asgardians dealt with the armies. Captain Marvel eventually destroyed the Sanctuary II and Captain Hydra fought with Corvus Glaive, Hulk against Cull Obsidian, Mordo with Ebony Maw and Wanda with Proxima Midnight. Thanos used the Power Stone to decimate Asgard returning to Earth. Hela and Thor escaped on time seeing most of Thanos’s armies being decimated. The Black Order have been killed by Captain Hydra and the others before charging at Thanos overwhelming him. Thanos used the Power Stone to decimate most of the Wakandans and Asgardians. Thanos then got hold of the Tesseract destroying it unleashing the Space Stone. Mordo then realized that Thanos would eventually win meaning that the world would now be doomed.
                                                                                          Epilogue
Realizing that they would lose if Thanos got the Time Stone he decided to unleash the unexpected and contacted Dormammu who was not imprisoned due to Doctor Strange’s death 2 years prior. Dormammu then consumed the entire universe including Earth and Thanos. This universe was destined for failure. In the further end of the universe Silver Surfer informed his master that Thanos was defeated and Dormammu had begun consuming the universe into the Dark Dimension. He then told the Surfer that soon they will be the ones victorious and it would be the herald of Galactus himself that would come on top…
                                                                                      THE END!
And that is going to be ¿What if Project Insight had become a success in Captain America the Winter Soldier? And what if Hydra had won against Captain America and the Avengers. Like I said earlier this the first post of 2023 because the release of the 1st season has been delayed although it is complete but I’ll address the delay when I finally dropped the season so be on the lookout for that and more what ifs coming soon because this year will be really big and I’m coming in charging with many fan fictions and there is a standalone fan fiction that is going to be a fan fiction movie in the style of the 1st season and upcoming the 2nd season but it is not part of either season so this things are changing and im going to be changing my style a bit and finally be able to drop Star Wars fan fictions and more DC fan fictions especially after James Gunn’s announcement of the DCU. Anyways with that being said take care and have a fantastic day. Peace out!

Aaron Hotchner x Gender Neutral Reader a joyful future fic
a/n: thanks to @joanofarkansass for this little idea!! i was able to throw this together as kind of a surprise treat before i went to sleep tonight. i hope you all enjoy!
words: .9k warnings: none!
summary: “’welcome to the wonderful world of jealousy,’ he thought. ‘For the price of admission, you get a splitting headache, a nearly irresistible urge to commit murder, and an inferiority complex. yippee.’” ― j.r. ward, dark lover. au!november 2010
masterlist | a joyful future masterlist | ajf faq | requests closed!
“Sorry to call all of you in on such short notice.” JJ tosses a file to you as you walk in. “We’ve got a last-minute request from the brass and we’re expected in Vermont within the next two hours.”
You sit with a sigh and start flipping through as the rest of the team files in.
“You look nice,” Derek remarks. You almost have the good sense to feel offended by his surprise.
“I had a date.”
Penelope drops her file. “Kevin and I were supposed to have our Firefly marathon tonight, but I guess it’ll have to wait. I can’t believe another serial killer ruined our night off.”
Your mouth screws up, a little rueful, but before you can reply -
“A serial killer is about to ruin a lot more than our nights if we don’t get started.” Hotch steps in and sits beside you, looking up at the screen. He’s also out of his normal garb - wearing a polo shirt and jeans with a pair of sneakers.
It’s not like you haven’t seen him in stuff like this before, but it’s still a little silly to see him dressed so casually in the office.
After a moment of silence, he prompts, “JJ?”
“Yes, sir.”
JJ starts the briefing, but you’re having some trouble focusing. It’s clear Hotch’s mind is somewhere else and his fidgeting draws your attention more than once.
About halfway through, you catch Emily as she nudges Dave’s shoulder, pulling his attention to Aaron. They both squint in your general direction for a moment before little smirks appear on their faces.
With that in mind, you bump Hotch with your elbow. “You okay?”
“Fine.”
Doesn’t sound fine.
“You sure? Is Jack okay?”
He doesn’t look at you as he replies, still curt. “Yeah. He’s good. I’m fine. Just tired.”
Small alarm bells go off in your head. It seems Haley installed them upon her death. For now, though, you ignore them and let it go.
He’ll get over it, whatever it is.
+++
“I hope you have a change of clothes,” Hotch says, passing you on the jet.
You glance up at him, trying not to feel too put off by the rebuke in his tone. “Of course.”
He takes a seat on the far side of the plane - much farther away from you than normal. Emily, uncharacteristically, plops down beside you with a little snort.
“He’s about as subtle as a gun, don’t you think?”
Your brow pinches. “What?”
“Could he be more obvious?”
Taking a minute to look over at Hotch again, you turn back to Emily. “Apparently?”
“He’s jealous. I think he heard you had a date.”
Why would he be jealous?
The furrow between your brows only deepens. Jealous doesn’t seem to be in Hotch’s vocabulary - Aaron is, well, seemingly too much of a man for that. Jealousy seems childish, immature, even. Two things he decidedly isn’t.
You take the bait. “What do you mean?”
Emily snorts again. “You’re kidding, right? You look good -”
“Thanks.”
“Sure. You look good and it’s not for him and I think,” she sticks her tongue firmly in her cheek, “he’s a little huffy about it.”
You heave a sigh and stuck your nose in the case file. “Has anyone ever told you you’re absolutely ridiculous?”
“Pfft. Yeah. Rossi. All the time.”
+++
“Doin’ alright, Aaron?”
The man in question hardly looks up from his reading. “Hm?”
Dave settles in beside him and watches you chat with Emily, eye-rolls in no short supply. “Oh, I only ask because you seem a little tense.”
“Do I?”
Dave goes on to point out how nice you look this evening and, “It’s a shame we had to interrupt everyone’s evening - I’m sure the person on the other end of that date,” he gestures to you again, “is none too happy - but of course, that’s exactly what you want -”
“What?”
That caught Aaron’s attention.
Dave holds back a smirk. “You’re jealous, Aaron. Just admit it. This lack of self-awareness is unbecoming.”
Hotch only rolls his eyes and burrows back into his work, only a little frustrated Dave was able to get after him so easily. “I don’t know what you're talking about.”
“Alright,” Dave says, as if he doesn’t believe him at all (he doesn’t). “Up to you, but if I were you, I’d start getting a little more honest with yourself. Clearly, you don’t have forever.”
Aaron grits his teeth but doesn’t reply.
Why add fuel to the fire?
He’s right.
Shut up.
+++
You change into your work clothes about a half-hour before final descent - just a regular pair of rip-stop pants and a tee-shirt - and step out of the bathroom. If you chose to acknowledge the tension between you and Aaron, you’d admit your strut was a bit of a punishment.
That said, you’re not necessarily in the business of facing your feelings. Thus, your manner of walking is just a means to an end, as it usually is.
When you sit back down, you glance over and try not to feel too much joy at the slight pull of disappointment around Aaron’s lips at seeing your wardrobe change.
Maybe I did look good.
And maybe it was a gift JJ called you in, after all.
Not that you’d admit it, of course. The last thing you’d do is get dressed up for Aaron Hotchner, of all people.
Yeah, like that’ll happen.
Okay, even that is a little bit of a stretch for your self-denial. You shake it off, turning back to the police reports in your lap.
Definitely a stretch.

When jake takes mac to Grandpa Ray and Grandpa Kev's house it feels like they are babysitting jake instead of mac because even he is more mature than his father now 🤣
Tumblr media
He was just supposed to drop the kid off, hand over the overnight bag and the play bag (not like they don't have toys in the designated play corner already), but he keeps talking and walking around the place like he's never been there before and is that a high chair?! Captain?? Did you get a high chair for the one time a month Mac is over? (It's a loaner from a neighbour, but they were considering buying one if Amy and Jake would bring their grandchild over more - and the new one that's bound to arrive in a few months time. They might or might not have gotten a more comfortable changing mat for that one, too.)
There have been points where they considered actually calling Amy to come pick up her manchild (the real child is more than welcome to stay). There have even been days where Jake hung around playing with Mac for so long they had to invite him to dinner as well. The man has absolutely no time-management nor -awareness, it seems. One time Amy called them, asking if Jake had left yet, because she'd been waiting for 30 minutes and he wasn't answering his texts and she was wondering if she should send out a search warrant for him?!
And even at two years old, Mac is already done(tm) with his dad at some point. "Stop touching things!" He pushes against Jake's legs. "You break it!" "But I wanna see what toys the grampas got for you-" "NO! My toys! Daddy leave!" And yeah, the want-my-dad-clingy phase has definitely not yet started. "Wow, ouch." Jake grins at Kevin and Holt who both have to agree with the kid. "Guess that's my cue."
So of course Jake takes another 15 minutes to say his goodbyes, going off on random tangents and noticing weird stuff in their house and walking around like he owns the place and really, this man has fathered a child? If it wasn't for Santiago, the poor thing would be-
That's when Mac comes running round the corner to show grampa Holt something, trips, and full on smacks his head on the living room table. And how could they be so careless, they thought they'd baby&toddler-proofed the whole house, but they failed, surely Child Protective Services must be called in now, Peralta, can you ever forgive- Jake just picks up the crying Mac (he's not injured, it just hurts real bad), and tugs him against his chest, kissing the place on his temples where he hit himself and swaying back and forth with calming noises. Mac's crying wail turns into a low whine with hiccups as Jake's voice continues to be as calm and soft as they've never heard before. "It's okay, just a little ouch. You're okay, buddy. That's why we walk inside and don't run." Mac nods and sucks on his thumb. "You're gonna be fine with the g-pas if I go now?" Another nod as Jake hands him over to Holt, and yes, indeed, he might be more childish than his own child, and McClane is definitely a far better houseguest than he is, but they're definitely never questioning him being a parent again.

Ok my feelings about the episodes (8-7 and 8-8) in no particular order:
we’re boiling down the reason Holt and Kevin split to Holt being obsessive about work and being way too competitive. Okay, on the one hand I kind of get it because this is a sitcom and we don’t have time and need to be funny. On the other hand I’m like in the first episode Holt’s short monologue is “It’s been a tough year to be a black man and a police captain and a human. I’ve been pushed to the brink emotionally and physically. I went into survival mode, I neglected my personal life.” And, yeah, I am sad that we didn’t get to see THAT. Because that is so much more complicated than what we’ve seen of their conflict.
It was difficult for me to figure out why Holt was so stubborn in 8-7 beyond, you know, sitcom reasons. In episode one he flat out admits that he neglected Kevin. He knows what’s up. He’s petty, he’s competitive as fuck, but his ultimate goal is to get Kevin back, right? It’s also like if their relationship was Holt always wanting to win everything, how the hell did Kev stay with him for so long?
Todd? Not that hot. But also lol at Holt being his judgmental self. Holt weirdly always going for white guys (except for that one 8 year boyfriend he had at some point). I loved Todd talking about Queen’s gambit, the way he delivered that line was great.
But also poor Todd, the true victim of this episode (Pappy Boyle had it coming, drinking that rat milk all day for 93 years). This is a guy who just wanted to go on a date with a hot middle-aged cop. He did not sign up for this.
Man, that moment when Andre delivers that whole thing about real life versus movies and people don’t run to each other in the rain thing. I have rewatched this so many times. It’s so good. It’s just so good.
Kevin takes the leap again. I mean contrast this: Holt sends dick pic - Kevin runs through the rain to say I love you. Hard to tell which one of them is more romantic, right?
Holt is such an over-corrector. It’s like that time he went from saying “Does anyone else feel warm?” to throwing himself down the stairs. You get nothing! No, wait actually, I will compromise on everything and also decide to retire for you next episode!”
Kevin fretting about their vow renewal is adorable.
I’m gonna be honest, I love the porn joke.
To be honest, thought the BONE reference was a little much on the third BOOooOne. You can hate me now. “Cheddar’s not some street rat!” Though his tatse in vases is questionable.
We went from “Cheddar is a dog, he has no concept of happiness.” to he prefers the other vase, he thinks shrimp are bougie... but that just might be Kevin being all my fluffy boy is so special! I think in anyone else Holt wouldn’t tolerate this kind of anthromorphism, but with Kevin he’s like yes, our fluffy boy is so special :D
Andy Samberg when he tries to bring himself to say yes about the porn is hilarious, but why would they all hang out when Jake is watching porn? I still think Kevin should have questioned this more lol. Love his I wish I could say I was surprised though.
MEJ is so handsome in this ep. wtf.
love that the Charles - Peanutbutter grudge is alive and well.
Seductive Holt is so seductive. Andre is hotttt.
I love Amy and Terry’s outfits and their whole interaction this episode. Terry carrying her like furniture is gold.
You had it so easy growing up gay! Gold.
Jake talking about Amy, always a blessing.
wonder if Kevin flat out cancelled the renewal ceremony when he found out Holt was on a case and sent everyone home. Though he does say that family is still there at the end, but we don’t see them, so... The whole convo with Rosa and Charles where Kevin must have insisted to come on the rescue mission might be something I might want to throw into a fic... maybe
Kevin is Holt’s knight in shining armor, always. And I am here for it.
WTF is Kevin’s cop voice omg. You just know that the only acting he’s ever done was strutting around in a toga voice projecting like crazy in some Greek tragedy. Cop!Kevin is such chaotic energy
Hmmm, how much should I say about how I feel about the whole Kevin does not want Holt to retire thing? I mean it is a good thing that Kevin does not want Ray to give up this huge part of his life which he is passionate about. But also I’m not a hundred percent behind the way the show is handling the NYPD and police violence. I think personally I would have preferred Holt retiring from the NYPD and going into politics or activism or even becoming a PI like Rosa. I get that he pretty much dedicated his life to the NYPD, but I feel like the show is riding a little on the “a few bad apples” excuse.
I’m going to say that I would have preferred if they had gotten their planned ceremony in suits and with everything to that impromptu thing with Kevin in the cop uniform, though I’m aware of the significance of Holt insisting they do this before finishing the mission. Andre’s smile lights up the entire universe. He has the MOST beautiful smile.
Okay, I wonder if I’m coming off super negative. I’m not though. I really liked the episodes! I’m just very nitpicky (and thinking about stuff I want to work into fic). Aaaaalso, not ready for this show to be over! NBC has been slamming out these episodes like it’s a chore they just want to get through, which makes me sad. But I am still happy that we got all this.
THAT KISS IN THE RAIN IS EVERYTHING.

Hey, no need to respond to this, truly, but I just had to say something. Feel free to ignore and I won’t bother you about this again, but it makes me uncomfortable how you portray Riko as this traumatized kid who just needs love&attention in your writing when he is canonically an abuser. He nearly beat Jean to death and ordered other Ravens to rape him. He broke Kevin’s hand and tried to emotionally abuse him into returning to him. He helped Drake cross state borders while he was being investigated for child sexual assault and pointed him at Andrew. He paid Proust to assault Andrew. He tied Neil to a bed and tortured him. He killed Seth. Yes, his backstory is tragic but he is an abuser. And it’s uncomfortable reading about how his victims should feel sorry for him bc now they’re older and more mature and Riko “was a kid”. I recognize you have the right to write what you want, I just wanted to tell you how it reads. I’m not trying to be mean or harass you & I won’t send anything else other than this. And do not post this to the public if you don’t want to! Seriously, I’m not trying to be mean or hurt your feelings, you’re a great writer and I don’t believe you meant anything malicious or were trying to communicate what I took from how you wrote Riko, just that that’s how it comes off.
Hey, I am going to respond to this just because I want to be clear that I am writing Riko very very aware of the fact that he has done things in the books that make me really dislike / hate him as a person. Still, as a character there are things I want to explore with him y’know?
Especially from people who he really has no power over at this point. Especially from people who he did use to have power over at one point.
Some of this might be coming across a certain way just due to the fact that I had some ideas earlier on in the writing of these that I've discard. Such is the nature of a WIP. The other part is that a lot of the snippets are missing broader context. Such is the nature of a Snippet.
Either way you're fine to be uncomfortable with that and to not like how I'm writing it but I do just want to cover generally how I'm approaching Riko in the 2 AUs I'm really treating him differently than canon.
In the Math Nerd AU I want to explore a Neil who is a lot older and who still, honestly, hates Riko. He hates him and would love to watch him sink into the pits of hell once again.... but he's also a Neil who has grown a lot since he was 18-19 and dealing with Riko the first time around. He's a Neil who not only benefited from but now truly and absolutely believes in the power of giving someone a chance. Wymack has had that level of influence on his thinking.
He was a Captain and stayed close with the Foxes and Wymack over the years. He has seen all of the kids that Wymack gave 2nd chances to.
Some of them deserved that second chance and they utilize it.
Some of them deserved that second chance and failed to utilize it.
Some of them didn't deserve those second chances and did utilize it.
Some of them didn't deserve that second chance and proved that they didn't deserve it.
Wymack still offered it to all of them and he didn't always like those kids but Wymack still did his best to help them. Neil thinks Wymack died with his only regret being that he didn't have a chance to drink the pricey bourbon they'd gotten him and that he wouldn't get to call Kevin after his games.
Neil WANTS / NEEDS / CRAVES that peace of mind for reasons I'm not going to touch on here because it doesn't involve Riko.
I have decided on a few things that are different from the initial description, such is the nature of a WIP.
Its not quite clear in the snippets because hey they’re snippets and not the full story and honestly I’ve avoided doing these snippets from Neil’s POV. All Neil is doing right now? He’s offering Riko a chance and that's it.
What Riko does with that chance I haven’t touched on at all. Neil is offering a Riko an opportunity to stop before he sinks his own ship and Neil won't even toss a life preserver because watching him drown was immensely personally satisfying to Neil last time. What he wants is the certainty that there was no redeeming Riko, that there was no excuse, and that he's totally normal for thinking about how Riko looked the night he died with warmth. If Riko proves him wrong? If all Riko really did need was someone he had no power over to treat him like a person and not a commodity?
It'd be the ultimate proof that anyone can benefit from a second chance, that Wymack was always right to offer it. He'd be okay with that too.
I also want to explore what Neil can gain by delaying the satisfaction he got the first time around by outright telling Riko to just fuck off. How playing it a bit nicer / smarter with Riko means that the Foxes are safer and also gives him the opportunity to protect other people he has had a hand in saving. Andrew was the first person that Neil saved when he went back in time, but he wasn't the last. Neil also wasn't always successful in saving some people despite his foreknowledge.
Again, nature of the WIP and nature of the Snippet were not everything is here since I sure as hell am not writing this in order with the snippets but I am going to touch on it in a WIP Wednesday ask pretty soon, probably once I finish this beast / make myself dinner.
For New Kings it's a lot easier since mostly I'm treating Riko as a joke. Someone who wants to be a threat, who remembers being terrifying to these Foxes. Except now he...just kind of isn't. He has no power over any of them. Like Nicky said, he's seen home loans scarier than Riko is at this point.
It really is them just seeing someone they remember being so huge and threatening and scary and…..its just this sad sack 20 something playing at being God because he’s good at a sport. Honestly, in comparison to what some of them got up to later? He's not even that good.
They won’t take him seriously because why the fuck should they? That would just feed into his already insane ego. In my experience there’s nothing that upsets an abuser more than his once victims just won’t give him any power over them. (Again its the nature of the snippet in that its not the full picture and I haven’t even covered Riko’s reaction to the Fox’s dismissal of him as a threat in all its unhinged glory nor Renee's grand theft Moreau.)
STILL, if that isn’t something you want to read then please just add the tags #Math Nerd AU and #New Kings AU or ME (jtl-fics & justthislazy) to a block list. I'm religious about tagging so if you still want to read other stuff then just blacklisting those tags will keep you safe.
I can add Riko Moriyama as a tag on the parts that involve / mention him if you still want to read the snippets that don't include him.
I’m not out here to make someone uncomfortable but I do want to explore these things in my writing. It might change the further I go but it might not so please proceed at your comfort level.
Thank you for writing to me with your concern and I’m more than happy to accommodate with tags if you wanna message me.
Still, like you said, I'm going to write what I want.

Right but what if in married to the enemy non of them recognize Neil and just think of him as Andrews husband which leads to increasingly comedic Dramatic Irony(TM) scenes like Neil would be stopping by to drop something and some perp is like “hey isn’t that nath-“ *cue Andrew ‘accidentally’ shoving him* like idk I know you’re done with that fic but I just read it and I can’t stop thinking about how funny that would be
bruh
stop bringing things back from the dead yall
(FINALLY some WRITING and not just asks - im so sorry ive been starving you all)
*
“Andrew!” Detective Jeremy Knox bounced on the balls of his feet. “I’m so thrilled to have you here. Kevin Day has spoken...” his smile nearly slipped. “Highly! Of you.”
“Here’s the file,” Andrew grunted, dropping the thick yellow slip onto the detective’s desk. “You need to get rid of them before they settle in. Once they’ve grown roots you’ll never get rid of them till they decide to move again.”
“I know,” Jeremy said, voice slightly hushed. “We’ll bring justice to your Baltimore victims. This won’t be swept under the rug.”
Andrew just stared at the file. He’d worked on that ring for three years now, but they’d upped and vanished. When they’d reappeared in Captain Rhenmann’ s New York precinct, Kevin had booted him up there to get a resolution.
It also, coincidently, was the exact week Neil was due up in New York to finalise his ‘retirement’. Andrew may or may not have arranged for him to be in New York for Neil’s support whilst he finally wriggled out of the Moriyama’s grasp.
Finally, after a decade and a half together, Neil would be free. Baltimore would no longer require a Butcher to instil terror. Neil had worked hard to free their city from Ichirou Moriyama’s grasp, buying both himself and his jurisdiction out of internment.
And once Neil was free, they could finally bring down the Moriyamas. Together.
Andrew wasn’t in a rush. Slow and steady always won the race: he would bring down the criminal empire that had trapped his husband for so long and marred his skin and mind with memories of terror and injustice. And he would enjoy it.
“Would you like to have lunch with us?” Knox gestured to the two women, standing close enough to eavesdrop but pretending they weren’t. They were married, Andrew guessed. It was pretty obvious. “We were just about to head out. There’s a hidden bodega near the the station with pastrami that’s to die for.”
Andrew checked his phone. No messages from Neil, as of yet. He’d text when he was on his way back to the hotel, and there was no use in Andrew hanging around and anxious awaiting his arrival. He’d convince himself that the Moriyamas had finally put a bullet through Neil’s forehead and go rampaging.
“Fine,” he grunted, shoving the phone back into his pocket.
Detective Sunshine just beamed.
*
“Day mentioned you were married,” Alvarez said, swallowing a mouthful of sub. “Who’s the lucky guy?”
Andrew arched his eyebrow, unimpressed. She rolled her eyes.
“You’ve got him as your home screen. It’s not hard to guess. You out at your precinct?” Andrew nodded. “Yeah, so are we.”
“If we didn’t have Captain Rhenmann, I’m sure it’d be a lot more stressful.” Laila added, rubbing her wife’s shoulder. “He speaks very highly of your captain, you know. I think they worked together with the old NYPD commissioner. Kayleigh Day.”
Yes, Kevin’s mother. The one who was murdered twenty years ago. A riveting case. Still unsolved. Neil was pretty sure it was his father who’d been assigned to her removal. Not that Andrew would ever discuss this aloud.
“I heard she was one hell of a woman,” Knox added. “If her son’s anything to go off, I can see why.”
“Stop gushing about Kevin,” Alvarez chided.
“Don’t worry,” Andrew grunted. “Kevin’s undoubtedly worse.”
The three of them laughed. They ate in companionable silence, Knox and Alvarez occasionally jostling each other or gossiping about names Andrew didn’t know. It was nearing 2 o’clock in the afternoon when the detective’s phone buzzed: he leaned over, checked who it was from and immediately scrambled to pick it up.
Knox squinted at the message and shot the three of them an apologetic look. “My bad. I’ve gotta make a call. I’ll meet y’all back at the station?”
He left without an answer, phone raised to his ear.
“He’s a parole officer for a very specific case,” Alvarez explained. Laila was frowning. “A difficult one, at that.”
“Seems a little more involved than a parole officer usually is,” Andrew noted.
“Yes, well,” Laila huffed. “Jeremy likes to care.”
Andrew got a text of his own. Coming back now.
He bid the women goodbye with a salute and bought a sandwich for Neil: he was unlikely to have already fed himself, too stressed and paranoid to bother thinking about food. He always came back from New York weak and underfed.
When Andrew arrived back to their hotel room, Neil was lying on his back, staring at the ceiling. His shirt was untucked and tie loosened, but he hadn’t even bothered to take his shoes off or put away the briefcase of paperwork and knives.
Andrew put the food aside for later and sat by his husband, toeing off his shoes so he could cross his legs on the bed.
When Neil didn’t talk, he leaned over and turned on the television. A random afternoon sitcom filled the room with white noise, bringing Neil out of his glacial stare. Finally, his eyes flit over to Andrew, aware but still hollow.
Andrew reached out to undo Neil’s cuffs but waited for him to deposit his wrist in Andrew’s palm. He got to work, unbuttoning the sleeves, pulling off the tie and throwing the shoes over to the door. The dress shirt was wriggled off, leaving him in just a white undershirt, and draped across the chair to be steam-ironed in the morning. Neil wormed out of his slacks, too, letting Andrew fold them and put them away.
Andrew made him a cup of decaf instant coffee and brought out the sandwich. Neil looked at both of them balefully but sat up anyway, getting through the whole coffee and only half the sandwich.
Andrew waited, sitting behind him. When he was finished he laid back down, putting his head in Andrew’s lap.
“Thank you,” he mumbled.
Andrew just hummed, combing his fingers through Neil’s hair.
*
The end of the week came quickly. Andrew worked the case with Knox and eventually decided that the case would be in good hands. Every evening he’d come back to find Neil just as exhausted and spaced out and hold him together with soft hands and silent reassurance. Neil soldiered on.
Andrew didn’t know what he was negotiating, why it was taking so long or whether or not this would actually work. All he could hope for was that Neil would be a free man by the end of the week and that they could go home without worrying he’d be called back or killed.
Andrew got his answer on Friday evening. He bid the affectionately named ‘Dyke Detectives’ and their captain goodbye, knowing Knox had briefly left the building for an errand and assuming that they’d pass on his thanks.
He exited the front doors of the precinct and nearly stumbled into his husband, standing in jeans and a hoodie with a blinding grin. Andrew never forgot how gorgeous Neil was, but the ease of his posture and the genuine smile had something go soft inside his chest.
He ignored all the beat cops standing around the doors and pressed a kiss to Neil’s smile, which only had him smile more.
“It’s done,” Neil murmured, holding Andrew’s wrist. “I’m free. We’re free.’’
“Took you long enough.”
Neil shrugged. “Had to barter for Allison, too. I know Renee wants to make it official.”
“Only a decade later,” Andrew agreed. Of course Neil hadn’t been fighting tooth and nail for himself: he’d do anything for those he loved.
“Holy shit,” came an unfamiliar voice. They both turned around, spotting a willowing man standing next to Detective Knox. His pale complexion had turned translucent, all the blood draining out of his cheeks. Neil’s eyes flashed with recognition. “Nathaniel—?”
“It’s Neil,” Neil said, still smiling. “Hello, Jean. Good to see you were cleared. Did they find Riko’s actual killer?”
The man did not look any less uncomfortable. “They ruled it a suicide.”
“Ah, shame. Maybe some more evidence will come to light, later.” He offered his hand to Andrew. “Shall we?”
It would be a long drive to Baltimore but at the other end was home, two cats and freedom.
Andrew, older, wiser, calmer, happier, took Neil’s hand.
“We shall.”

South Park Main 5, Headcanons Masterpost  ~
Stan Marsh
Tumblr media
Looks:
hair is actually nice and somewhat floppy naturally, but because he wears a hat most of the time, it’s usually flat and a little greasy kshdhsd
hair is that blue-ish black color
eyes is piercing ice blue
skin is light, kind porcelain like, but he also tans really fast?
soft sweaters are the only thing he’ll wear from early autumn to late spring
in summer he’ll literally only wear band shirts and flannels lol
Personality and General Trivia:
totally cares more for animals than most people let’s be real
sometimes he struggles with seeing things from others point of view and ha can come across as a little self centered
he is aware of it tho and tries to be better at it
his instagram is filled with Sparky haha
let’s Sparky sleep in his bed every single night even tho Sharon tells him not to
likes reading and writing, has a tiny obsession with dark themes and Lovecraftian stuff
he and Kenny volunteers at the local pet shelter and homeless shelter together
the pet shelter was Stan’s idea, and the homeless shelter was Kenny’s
wants to be edgy but is really just very soft
“Kyle said...”
believes everything Kyle tells him lol
enjoys video games a lot, prefers single player, story based ones tho
also still enjoys boardgames a lot, and when the big group isn’t up for hit, he, Tweek, Jimmy, Butters and Cartman groups together to nerd it out
has clinical depression, but is managing it with help of a therapist, his mom and friends
sometimes things gets pretty dark, but he is getting better at reaching out and asking for help in those times
Friendships:
like I mentioned above, he struggles a bit with seeing things for other’s point of view
but he is aware of his flaws and is trying to be better
can get a little bit caught up in his own drama, but listens when his friends tells him he needs to get over himself
will always stand up for his friends, especially if they’re not there to do it themselves
when he starts getting closer with Butters in early high school he gets really upset when he realizes how much he gets shit-talked
enjoys spending time with his friends individually, probably the most of the group, and takes initiative to do so a lot
which is very important to Kenny, since he tends to feel a little overlooked sometimes, and it makes their friendship really strong
same with Butters, except Butters doesn’t usually doesn’t mind mainly being in a group, but the first few times and Stan hangs out alone it’s obvious he really appreciates it
Family:
daddy issues
sorry I don’t make the rules lol
has a decent relationship with Sharon tho
she’s a good mom
and he wants to be a good son
Shelly is still kinda angry and scary
she keeps the “only I can beat you up bro” attitude and there is secretly mutual respect there
but we don’t talk about that!!!
Ships and relationships:
okay so my main ships for him are stutters (Butters), stenny (Kenny) and Style (Kyle)
my fav is stutters tho
I usually head canon him as bi or pan, but as with everyone in SP, I’m open to different interpretations if different Au’s and stories!
I just really like the idea of them learning to balance facing their issues AND celebrate the good things in life together
I def think he can be a bit insecure in relationships, struggling with feeling like he’s not enough, and would need a partner that naturally will be affirming and positive
that’s not to say he’s super needy or clingy, he’s just a bit insecure
but I really think he would truly be a good partner
he’s caring, kind and very appreciative
which is again why I really like him with Butters offh
Kenny McCormick
Tumblr media
Looks:
sandy blonde hair that’s always messy and floppy/softly curled
teeth is kind of crooked due to lack of funds for braces
his front teeth are kinda big and has a significant gap
lots and lots of freckles man
all over his face, shoulders, back, hands and arms
tans fast
I actually really like him with brown eyes? like, soulful deep brown eyes
but also very, very clear blue ones, like almost unnatural (yes that’s a mysterious thing)
medium tall
wears his hoodies, usually with the hood up, no matter if it’s freezing or a heatwave
not conventionally attractive, but charming looking lol
likes to wear some eyeliner every now and then
and nail polish, but it’s like super clumsily put on and always chipped
Personality and General Trivia:
falls asleep in class a lot, but always seems to know the answer if the teacher asks him something
also has decent grades
I think he’s way smarter than he gives himself credit for, both socially and school wise
the therapist of the groups
actually, the therapist of the whole school
knows a lot of secrets due to this, but he always, ALWAYS keeps them
I see him as very friendly and approachable, but terribly hard to get close with
lots and lots of walls, man
very much an observer type?
quietly stays in the background if that’s an option
but if he is talked too, or feels like he has something to really contribute to in a conversation he’ll jump in and be comfortable talking and taking up space if he is with friends or people he knows
if not, he’ll just stay in the background with that.... look on his face that just makes you know he knows more than he says
works at Tweek’s parents coffee shop, is kinda close with Tweek because of this
zones out a lot
“…what?”
can fall asleep anywhere
Friendships:
is pretty close friends with Butters!
Butters used to have a little crush on him, but Kenny didn’t find out until years later lol
he also has a lot of patience with Cartman compared to the others
which is why Cartman actually cares when Kenny sets him in his place
likes learning new things, and does that with Kyle a lot!
both school and homework stuff, and things like cooking and other homey stuff, the two of them really bond with this
him and Stan volunteer together, and I already mentioned, and that time means a lot to Kenny
since he works with Tweek, the two of them are pretty close and good friends
is the one of the main boys who gets along the best with Craig and those guys
actually hangs out with them from time to time, so does Butters
it low-key drives the others crazy
Family:
I often like to think his parents would keep having these bursts where they try to get their shit together?
and it’s slow, and one step back and two backwards, but the fact that they’re trying at all means a lot to the kids after years of them... not
I can also see Kevin stepping up and taking more charge, Kevin get’s way too little love in this fandom!
Kenny usually never fights with his sibs
but when he does it’s with Karen, usually because he’s worried about her and it’s nor pretty
none of them can stay mad at each other for long tho
Kevin trying to be all “big brother” and kinda failing because he is chaotic, but he really wants to do right and Karen and Kenny knows that and appreciates it
Ships and relationships:
ohhh kay here we go, unpopular opinions ahead!
first, my main Kenny ships are Tokenny (Token x Kenny) and Stenny
rn Tokenny is my main, I love the potential dynamics, both with their personalties and backgrounds and families
I tend to head canon him as pan or bisexual, and demiromatic
I know the demiromantic part is... controversial, at best
but hear me out!
I see him being very comfortable with discussing sexual stuff, and being attracted to someone physically is never something he feels awkward or bad about
but when it comes to more emotional connections, he is way more awkward and fumbling
for those who doesn’t know, a demiromatic person (like myself! surprise!) won’t have crushes or romantic feelings for someone they don’t already have some form of emotional bond with! We can still feel sexual attraction tho, and some of us are comfortable with casual sexual encounters (like me!) and others are not, and both are very valid!
I usually have two ways of writing him
either him being comfortable having casual sexual interactions, but struggling with the romantic aspect and having to figure out how this works for him
OR
him having some trauma related to debating sexually very early, thinking he was all ready and it was just sex, but getting his emotions caught up in it and being very heartbroken and confused, and therefore having issues with being intimate with people for a while
I mix them up depending on the story, but the first one is usually my go-to!
Kyle Broflovski
Tumblr media
Looks:
he still covers his hair a lot, either with hats or hoods?
because I really see him being insecure about it
it’s a medium sort of red, and like, really curly and fluffy
not frizzy, big like... big
I usually give him green eyes, but I also could see him with a light brown or hazel!
some light freckles on his face that only really shows up if he’s spent time in the sun
pretty tall, kind of lanky
d i m p l e s
Personality and General Trivia:
big nerd energy
in every way, board games, video games, loves school, like genuinely, enjoys studying for tests, loves fantasy books, the longer and more complicated the better
co-captain of the debate team with Wendy
is good with arguments unless he gets too passionate on the subject, or if someone knows his weak points and uses them to tick him off
it’s usually Cartman
his mom wants him to go to an Ivy League but honestly he just wants to go to the same one in Denver as Stan, Butters and Cartman are planning on, and now that Kenny is also considering it he seriously think he’ll die if all his friends go to the same college without him
he struggles with FOMO, which is kind of an issue since he’s a busy guy, and some of his friends are not lol
if any one of these kids become a jock, it’s def Kyle with his basketball change my mind-
but not like, a letterman wearing fuckboy type of jock, but like, is obsessed with his sport and his team and works really hard to do well type of jock
Friendships:
very loyal
he and Stan walks Sparky together at least twice a week, just to be sure they’re always caught up with each other even when they’re busy with school, sports and dating
yeah they’re still super best friends
when they started high school he got closer to Wendy as she’s also on the debate team, in all of his AP classes and they share a lot of the same interests
they’re still good friends, but nothing more
the first time Cartman got really drunk was at a party freshman year, and at the time everyone was pretty fed up with him, and he ended up crying and Kyle found him, and Cartman thinks Kyle doesn’t remember, but he does
that was the first night Kyle really kinda understood why Cartman was the way he was, and even though he still thinks he’s a dick at times, he tries to remember everyone have a story, and to give people time
but he often gets too riled up to remember that lol
good pals with Jimmy, they share a lot of interests in fantasy stuff and have the same humor
he also start to go along well with Craig when they are around middle school age, but they’re both kinda too stubborn to admit they’re friends until a year later lol
Family:
even tho Sheila is pretty overbearing and can be too much, he is a mommy’s boy deep down
tense relationship with his dad
enjoys cooking, so that’s where he spends a lot of time with his mom!
tries his best to keep up with Ike and his life
sometimes he is a tad cringy when doing so, but Ike appreciates the gesture
Ike is pretty confident and strong in himself so he doesn’t care if Kyle is a bit awkward lol
the type of brothers who genuinely enjoys spending time together
Ships and relationships:
I like Style, Kyman, K2 and Kyvid!
I think he’d be a late bloomer when it comes to love and dating
struggles with opening up and letting himself feel these things
I often think of him as biromantic asexual, but I’m not always set on it!
he’d enjoy traditional dinner and a movie type of dates a lot, such a nerd
Eric Cartman
Tumblr media
Looks:
keeps his hair cut pretty short and styled
has heterochromia iridium (different colored eyes), one blue and one brown
also he has a real nice smile when it’s a genuine one
which is rare but like
it happens
is kinda insecure about his weight and tries to compensate with always having the newest stuff and pretending not to care
sometimes tries to diet in secret
he isn’t huge anymore, but is still sort of broad, and isn’t skinny, but like..
kinda bulky, if he wears the right type of clothes it’s hard to see if he’s chubby or buff
but he is def chubby
Personality and General Trivia:
spends way to much time on reddit arguing with randoms
angry gamer, will call you a slur on voice chat
after almost getting dropped by his friends in middle school he tries a little harder to be a more decent person
still an asshole at heart, but like, an asshole who sometimes cares about some people
always tells people that’s he’s seen that meme before, even when he hasn’t
nothing is ever his fault and the only ones who can get him to admit he’s wrong are Kenny and, very, very rarely, Kyle
he wears supreme hoodies for a full year of High School and stands in line all night for the new ones and never shuts up about how he is the first in South Park to have the new stuff
Kenny finds it hilarious to buy the fake supreme stickers and put then on his own worn out hoodies
Kyle makes it his main goal in life to put things (everything from used gym socks to old food he finds in his locker) in Cartmans hoods and see how long it takes for him to notice
can’t handle alcohol, is constantly being teased for it
sloppy drunk lol
one of the main reasons the other bothers with Cartman trough middle school, when he is at his worst, is because of his big basement, the old Coon Lair, who got a big renovation around 7th grade and is an awesome, private hangout spot with a big TV and wifi and gaming systems
Friendships:
constantly says he hates his friends but would die if everyone left him
is secretly terribly jealous of Kyle, both his closeness to Stan, his basketball skills, his grades and his family
but they had that thing in Freshman year when Kyle found him drunk, alone and sad, and Cartman himself barely remembers it, and doesn’t think Kyle does because he never mentioned it
but he does
so much tension there, but also co-dependency
sees Kenny and Butters as his best friends, and knows deep down neither of them feel that way about him and it secretly kills him
is in the same board game group with Stan
is low-key terrified of Tweek lol
Family:
big mommy issues
but also very protective of her
I really enjoy the AU/headcanon that Liane marries Clyde’s dad
it’s not like, the only version I like, but I put it in as many au’s and works of mine as I can
I def think both boys would be mortified right away
but Clyde comes around first, because he really wants a brother, even if that brother have to be Cartman
Cartman would never admit it, but after some time he really starts to see Clyde as a brother and genuinely cares for him
Ships and relationships:
I mainly see Cartman as gay
sometimes I start of AU’s and stories with him not being out to himself or anyone else tho, I think that whole journey for him will be very interesting and help him grow as a person
I def think he’d have a few girlfriends before he comes out tho?
he can be very charming when he wants too yanno
my only Cartman ship is kyman atm, but I’m def open to explore more of
Leopold Butters Stotch
Tumblr media
Looks:
I really really really like T A L L Butters???
like tall and gangly and adorable
I know it’s very popular to head canon that he bleaches his hair, but I like to think he has very light blond air naturally!
keeps it short on the sides and longer on top, with cute ass curls
soft sky blue eyes
also dyes his bangs light blue in high school!!
Pete the goth helps him because he is a pro of dying bangs
I like to think he’d be into pastel grunge, and keep his love for Hello Kitty and Sanrio etc, but still be a bit more... edgy?
Personality and General Trivia:
one of those people who’s friendly with almost everyone
but that doesn’t mean he’s friends with them, yanno?
gets drunk from one wine cooler
loves the theater and is in the drama club, but likes to be behind the stage, not on it
wants to be a director one day
watches Netflix on his phone every single time he has any time to spare, because he’s always binging a show
is usually pretty positive and kind, gives people the benefit of the doubt
but can be very stubborn, and if he has decided he dislikes or doesn’t trust someone, it’s almost impossible to change his mind
Friendships:
Butters put up with Cartman for so long because he genuinely thinks he can be fun when he’s not horrible, and he really tries his best to believe in people
he was also the first one to forgive him after the others cut him off
a very loyal and fun friend
takes a lot of initiative to do stuff, and loves hosting movie nights
thinks of these boys as his closest friends, but is also real close to Wendy, Bebe, Jimmy and Tweek
Family:
I just hate Stephen so much you guys
so tbh I usually like to just... have Linda leave him, or straight up kill him off oops
I know Linda is terrible too, I do, but I think she could possibly have a moment of realization if something happens like Butters potentially being taken away?
idk I’m not gonna go too deep into this, I know it’s such a heavy topic and I don’t wanna seem like I just ignore it, but I personally don’t usually include Stephen directly in my stories, and this is why, I hope y’all understand and respect that!
Ships and relationships:
my main Butters ship is Stutters (Stan x Butters)
I mentioned a lot why in Stan’s headcanons?
but idk, I just really think they’d balance each other well, and could have a very interesting and cute relationship!
I usually headcanons him as pan or gay, and genderqueer, but I’m open for other interpretations too!
he does date a little bit, but have never been in a real relationship and isn’t stressing about it!
he did have a pretty huge crush on (a very unaware) Kenny during middle school, but then they started hanging out a lot more and became really close and Butters didn’t really bring it much thought?
that’s until Cartman gets jealous and throws out a “what are you guys dating and fucking and being gay huh???” and Butters mind immediately goes to “omg ew no he’s like my brother!”
aaand that’s how Butters realized he was over his crush
they two of them stay close friends tho, Kenny makes Butters laugh and helps him be more sure of himself and Butters helps Kenny remember that they’re still just kids and should have fun and be good

"A younger Holt less familiar with Jake Peralta would reprimand him for being so easy to read – but it seems to be in his very nature to wear his heart on his sleeve, and the truth is, it suits him."
or, jake & holt talk about fatherhood. (post 7x10)
read on ao3 -
“…So that’s the lowdown on the Broughton case. Charles and I are gonna head out and arrest them as soon as the warrant comes through.” Jake finishes, bouncing slightly on his heels as he finishes the update. Raymond Holt leans back in his chair, content with their plan of action.
“Excellent work, detective.” Holt says – but then finds himself mildly concerned when he only receives a subdued nod in reply. While he may deem it an appropriate workplace response to a captain’s praise, it is far from the excessive energy and enthusiasm that Jake usually exudes.
Raymond recalls the previous night’s events – a biological sex reveal party that led to Jake’s father being taken to the ER – and wonders if that might be placating the detective’s usually golden Labrador-like temperament.
“I trust that your father is in good health?” He asks tentatively, gesturing for Jake to sit down- he pauses for a moment before doing so, leg jostling in a way that increases Holt’s concern by 17.5%.
“Yeah, he’ll be fine. Sorry our party was kind of a full-blown disaster. Guess I should have expected that with three generations of Peraltas in the room.” He makes the self-deprecating remark with the light-hearted bravado Holt has come to expect from the detective, though it’s notably flatter than usual.
What’s more, his smile is more of a grimace, and he can’t stop fidgeting with the badge around his neck – a classic Peralta tell. Something is clearly bothering him, likely related to his complex relationship with his father and his own fatherhood looming.
A younger Holt less familiar with Jake Peralta would reprimand him for being so easy to read – but it seems to be in his very nature to wear his heart on his sleeve, and the truth is, it suits him. It is an openness, a trust and a sincerity that Holt has earned over the years as Jake’s superior officer. Though he still finds himself exasperated by his stubbornness and fixation on action films, Holt sincerely values his respect and loyalty.
He frowns, trying to assess the best way to discreetly discern what could be causing the detective’s distress.
“I actually found the party to be rather enjoyable, save the alarming bloodshed. The carrots were rich in nutrition and I thought the cake’s green colour made a very interesting and progressive statement.”
Jake’s lips quirk up a little at that, and he sits straighter in the chair, so Holt must be doing something right.
“Thank you, Captain, but that actually wasn’t our intention. Just another screw-up.”
“I see.” He considers this new information briefly, before attempting to continue the non-case related chitter-chatter, something he usually avoids. “So, you are now aware of the biological sex of your child?”
“Oh, yeah! We’re having a boy.” Jake finally smiles genuinely, and Raymond can’t help but return it. He may not personally care much for small infants, but the thought of the bickering detectives he first met when he came to the Nine-Nine having a child together does inspire some fatherly pride over how far they’ve come.
“My congratulations to you both.” He nods again, but his gaze is still far away. Holt decides to subtly switch tactics.
“You know, whatever doubts may be plaguing you, I am certain you have absolutely nothing to be worried about. Your son is very lucky to have you both as parents.”
“What? I’m not, um, there’s absolutely zero doubts to be found here.” Jake’s eyebrows briefly shoot up to his hairline as he stammers some typically poorly concealed denial. Holt remains neutral, wishing he had done some research on the subject but doing his best to power through.
“It is perfectly natural to be anxious about such things.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the gentle encouragement is all that it takes for a veritable avalanche of emotions to trip over themselves as Jake speaks.
“I guess I just…I want to be the best dad I can be. I don’t want him to ever feel like…like he’s been abandoned or he’s alone. It’s crazy how much I already love this kid and I haven’t even met him yet, but I know I would do absolutely anything to keep him safe. And with my dad talking about this stupid Peralta father-son curse and my grandpa being a jerk and walking out of our lives all over again…I don’t know. I just know that I don’t want to let him – or Amy – down. Ever.”
Holt is admittedly, a little overwhelmed. He and Kevin have never seen the appeal of conforming to heteronormative ideals of family life, and yet he values his place as the head of the chosen family he’s found at the Nine-Nine. The mysteries of pregnancy and childcare are complete unknowns to him, yet he finds himself completely certain that Jake and Amy will be great parents to their future son.
So, Holt does what he has always found it easiest to do, and he tells Jake the truth.
“I am not sure of this family ‘curse’ you speak of, but as your commanding officer for the majority of the past seven years, I know your doubts are ill-founded. On the contrary, the dedication and loyalty you have shown me, and every member of this squad, only makes me surer you will be a great father.”
“Really?” Jake says, hopeful but apparently still unconvinced.
“This job is not an easy one. You and I know both know first-hand how our lives can be affected by circumstances we cannot control. But you would never willingly let your family down, and the fact that you are so committed to doing everything you can for them is a sure sign that you never will.” Holt pauses briefly to let his sincerity sink in.
“Your son is going to love you, Jake. He will grow to enjoy many Thomas Cruise films with you, and I’m sure he will come to share your passion for…the transforming robot sewer turtles?”
“Feel compelled to tell you those are two completely different franchises, but I really appreciate the attempt and I will be emailing Michael Bay’s team about a potential cross-over.”
“Well. Regardless of the specifics of these cartoon turtles, I am sure you have understood my point.”
“Yes. Thank you, sir. I- that means, uh, a lot.” His thanks is, as usual, completely earnest, and Holt finds himself glad to have helped in any small way. He cannot completely solve the detective’s issues with fatherhood, but he is happy to be one consistent and stable presence for Jake to rely on. Just as he knows he can rely on him.
“You are welcome. And you are free to discuss any other personal issues you may have with me, although I assume Santiago may be better suited to such conversations.”
“She’s been telling me pretty much the same thing.” Jake admits, shifting in his seat. Raymond briefly wonders about the intricacies of their home life, whether they will discuss this conversation over dinner or perhaps during the commercials of some form of media content.
“Well, I recommend you listen to her. She has proven herself to be extremely perceptive and is rarely ever wrong.”
“I know.” Jake grins, a very specific smile on his face that Holt recognises has long been reserved for talking about Amy, even before they began their courtship. “Sometimes I still can’t believe she married me.”
Holt thinks of years spent watching them endlessly bicker and argue and tease each other, thinks of the intimacy affection he sees most often when they are inebriated at Shaw’s bar. He thinks of how ragged and distraught they’ve been each time they’ve been forced apart and how relieved they were to be back together. He thinks of officiating their wedding and accidentally intruding on their honeymoon, and above all, he thinks about each moment of their shared happiness together he has been privileged enough to witness.
“I do not believe she was wrong about that either.”
It’s an expression of sentiment which breaches many of his strict rules of conduct and professionality in the workplace, and he’s partly reluctant to be debasing himself so willingly. But then Jake’s eyes are shining with gratitude and his usual enthusiastic bright demeanour has returned and Raymond can’t help but feel relieved.
“Oh my god, I always knew you were our secret number one fan. Charles is going to be crushed.”
“You are dismissed.”
“Noooo, but I really want to stay and talk about how invested you are in our relationship- “
“-Please leave my office.”
Holt maintains his usual stony-faced composure until Jake shuts the door – only then does he allow himself to relax in his seat a little, fondly thinking of Kevin, Cheddar and the family he has found in the Nine-Nine. He makes a note to discuss stuffed animal varieties with Kevin at a later date so that they may have something to present Jake and Amy’s son when he arrives.
And when he gets to meet the newest addition to the Santiago-Peralta family a few short months later, held oh-so-carefully and preciously in the arms of a man he has come to consider a son, it is a meeting that he treasures for the rest of his life.

For some reason I was inspired to write more of ‘The Real Thing’. No clue why....
I thought this was going to be really short, too. Ha.
We’re starting to move things along, time-wise and plot-wise. Seriously.
Last part can be found here.
*******
“So, uhm, how are things going there? I mean, outside of the games, you Ravens are on the usual winning streak and they’re already talking about you making Court with the way you’re shutting down the goal whenever you’re playing, but with classes and… uhm, well, with Nathaniel?”
If Nicky didn’t sound as if he expected Andrew to yell at him at any moment, Andrew would tell him to fuck off and hang up. However, Nicky insisted on sending him care packages (and sappy A/B/O books, which Nathaniel continued to ask him about and allowed Andrew to invent ridiculous answers in return) and checking up on him, so… so Andrew humored his cousin.
(Or something like that.)
“I should make the dean’s list this semester and Nate’s fine,” Andrew said as he fought the urge to tap his fingers against the top of his desk.
“Hmm, just fine? He’s your soulmate.”
Once again, Andrew wished that he could have slit Riko’s throat before the prick had announced to the world that Nathaniel was his soulmate, even as at the same time he felt a deeply buried hint of satisfaction over knowing that everyone referred to Nathaniel as ‘his’.
He needed a drink.
“He’s fine,” Andrew repeated. “Still breathing and has all of his limbs.” All of his very attractive, very flexible limbs.
“That’s not- oh fine.” Nicky was definitely sulking on the other end of the line. “You could be a bit more romantic about finding your other half, you know.”
“Why? He’s my other half.”
“Exactly.” Nicky’s tone softened as he spoke that word. It was quiet for a few seconds before he spoke again. “Uhm, you hear from Aaron lately?”
Andrew didn’t say anything as he thought about how his twin continued to avoid him.
“Ah, yeah, okay.” Now Nicky sounded sad. “He’ll… he’ll come around. It’s difficult, not knowing where one’s soulmate is when everyone else has found theirs,” he tried to explain. “He’s feeling a bit jealous right now.”
Why would Aaron feel jealous? Andrew had moved away from California and given up any chance of a family he might have with Cass because of his brother (even if it included Drake), had gotten rid of Tilda for Aaron (who really should pay attention when making bargains), had joined the Ravens… well, partially because of the scholarship extended to Aaron (and partially because of the north star mark on his left forearm).
“It’s time for practice,” Andrew lied, unwilling to talk anymore.
“Oh, okay. Tell Nathaniel I said ‘hi’! I can’t wait to meet him, maybe during the holiday-“
Andrew hung up on his insane cousin before Nicky could go any further with that ridiculous plan, then completed his English homework. Ben had gone off to one of the study rooms to talk to his family, and returned a few minutes before the afternoon practice started (for real) with a disgruntled expression on his face.
When Andrew arched an eyebrow over the way his roommate slammed his books onto his desk, Ben huffed and shook his head. “Riko’s being even more of his ‘I’m the captain, do what I say or else’ self.” When Andrew’s drug-induced smile flattened, Ben shook his head again, that time with more vigor. “Nate wasn’t involved! He went after Jordon because of his performance this morning, and then got even angrier when Kevin tried to step in.”
As long as Nathaniel was all right. “What else is new?” Riko had become a nagging little bitch (more of a nagging little bitch) as the season progressed, as he became obsessed with ensuring that the Ravens led not only their district but the entire Class I division in points, as he excelled in both the collegiate and professional leagues.
Which meant that he became a bitter little bitch whenever he felt that he wasn’t given his due as the best striker in all of Exy, whenever someone stole his thunder (especially if it was his own partner) or if he believed that his teammates were lacking. Which meant that the Ravens had to put up with the psychotic prick’s mercurial moods.
Had Andrew said moods? More like tantrums.
At least as long as Andrew continued to either shut down the goal entirely during his time on court (not always possible) or limit the other team to one or two points, then Riko left him (and Nathaniel) alone. Well, the prick wasn’t happy when he ‘politely’ (meaning didn’t shove a knife in their ribs) reminded people to keep their fucking hands off Nathaniel, but it was still possible to play a game with a concussion or broken fingers.
Ben managed a weak chuckle at Andrew’s statement, then they left for practice; Andrew didn’t see Nathaniel or Jean in the locker room, which meant that they were already out on court. That wasn’t too much of a surprise since as part of Riko’s ‘perfect court’, they were expected to put in extra effort (to live up to the ‘perfect’ part), but it also meant that a certain prick expected more of them.
Andrew didn’t exactly run out of the locker room, but he managed a fast-paced ‘saunter’ that got him to the court before the rest of the team. He was just in time to notice a very familiar flush to his soulmate’s cheeks and gleam in those startling blue eyes as Nathaniel watched on while Riko tore into Kevin about – well, Andrew didn’t really give a shit about what, just stopping Nathaniel from getting into trouble.
“Why don’t you-“
“There’s my sweetpea!” Andrew called out right before he used his racquet as an improvised hook to draw Nathaniel towards him; Jean jumped at the loud noise then scoffed at his actions. “Got a kiss for your honeybun?”
“I’ve got a knife for your belly,” Nathaniel gritted out, yet he allowed Andrew to ‘reel’ him in. “What did I say about calling me that?”
Andrew pretended to think about the demand for a moment. “Okay, snugglewoogums.”
Behind them, Jean tried to turn a chuckle into a cough while Riko finally stopped berating Kevin. Nathaniel gave Andrew an incredibly pained look before he shook his head in defeat. “Fine, stick with the first one,” he spat as he ducked his head.
Aware of Riko’s attention on them, Andrew allowed his grin and tone to take on a salacious edge. “I told you I always get my way.” He smacked his soulmate on the ass with the handle of his racquet, well aware that he’d get an earful (and more threats about being filleted) later on, while Riko grinned in approval.
“It seems we finally found someone to tame our wild #3,” Riko taunted; for a moment, Andrew worried that it would set off his soulmate, but Nathaniel glanced over at Kevin, who had hurried to get the rest of the team ready for practice (and away from Riko), and seemed to decide to let the snide comment slide since things had settled down.
It was the usual Ravens’ practice after that (of which Andrew was So. Damn. Bored); going over the Ravens’ drills (and being caned by Tetsuji for any mistakes), followed by learning a new play or two (and being caned for not paying attention) and then a few scrimmages (and more caning for mistakes). Riko was quick to pounce on any players he felt weren’t up to the team’s demanding standards, to the point that Andrew was certain that he wasn’t the only one looking forward to the next time the asshole left for a Wildcats’ game.
As expected, Nathaniel dragged Andrew off to a table in the far corner of the dining hall after practice; no one paid any attention to him eating with his soulmate and Jean anymore, while Ben was fine having his meals with Leif and Toby (who actually said more than two words at a time to him). Jean sat with his back to the other Ravens, which helped to block any curious gazes, while Nathaniel glared as he jabbed a chopstick at the grilled tofu lying on top of his bowl of seasoned rice. “Laying it on a bit thick earlier, weren’t you?” He pitched his voice low so it wouldn’t carry very far. “Honeybun?” There was enough malice in the ‘nickname’ to choke a horse (too bad it didn’t choke Andrew and give him an excuse to skip dinner).
Andrew grunted as he contemplated flinging his own piece of tofu as far across the dining hall as possible. “Oh, did you and Valjean want to be beaten for pissing off Riko today?” It was a bit of a low blow to drag Jean into things, but the best way to prove his point.
Nathaniel appeared guilty while Jean gave him a warning look for such dirty tactics, which Andrew ignored. “He’s being a real asshole to Kevin lately for no reason.”
Other than being a jealous, insecure prick, but what else was new? “Kevin’s a big boy, let him take care of himself.”
“Kevin can’t fend for himself once off an Exy court or outside a press conference,” Nathaniel muttered, which made Jean chuckle. “But whatever,” he said when Andrew narrowed his eyes. “You done with your homework for the day?”
“Yes, you?”
Nathaniel nodded. “You… uhm, coming back to the room with us?” He kept poking at the disgusting slab of tofu while a hint of blush spread across his sharp cheekbones.
Despite the fact that Andrew basically went to Nathaniel’s room every night after dinner (unless it was a game night), he nodded and forced his attention on his own dinner while Nathaniel murmured ‘good’ and Jean looked as if he was about to get up and leave the table in disgust.
The rest of the meal passed in silence.
Once they reached the relative peace and safety (relative) of Nathaniel’s room, he pulled out the German language books which Nicky had sent Andrew (oh how his cousin had been delighted to know that Nathaniel had wanted to improve upon his slight knowledge of the language) so they could work on it that night; they’d taken to alternating between German and French in the last few weeks. Between Andrew’s eidetic memory and Nathaniel’s almost uncanny ability to learn languages, they were progressing rapidly between the two.
(Andrew wanted to know what the hell his soulmate and Jean were saying all the time – and to be warned by Jean if necessary – and to talk to Nathaniel privately.)
Andrew sat on Nathaniel’s bed, all too aware of how close they were to each other, as they went through the lessons that Nathaniel had worked on earlier that day and his pronunciation (which was damn good). They were in the middle of a short dialogue (asking for directions) when Nathaniel’s phone pinged, which was a rare occasion; almost everyone he knew was in the Nest, and his father certainly didn’t bother to talk to him.
Nathaniel’s brows drew together in a puzzled expression as he looked at his phone; Andrew noticed how Jean paused in reading a book to give his partner a worried glance. “I won’t be able to watch the game on Friday,” Nathaniel announced after texting back a response. “Ichirou wants me in the East Tower to translate.”
Andrew felt a wave of… of something dark and possessive and primordial slam into him as a wide smile spread across his face. “Oh, how wonderful, fun Moriyama time. Will Nathan be there to play as well?” He could easily (oh so easily) remember the bruises which had littered lovely ‘Nat’s’ face after his last father’s visit.
Nathaniel twitched at the response, which earned a muttered curse from Jean. “I… no.” Nathaniel shook his head, which caused the workbook in his lap to slip onto the bed and his dark auburn curls to flash through the air. “He doesn’t… not when Ichirou… no.”
The incoherence was a sign of how upset he was, as was the way his hands twisted in the hem of the overlarge black sweatshirt he wore; aware of how he was the cause of such disturbance, Andrew found himself reaching to thread his fingers through those mussed curls without a thought, to leaning forward until he felt his soulmate’s breath warm against his face, until he could see the flecks of pale grey swirl in those icy blue eyes….
A manic part of him urged him on to kiss his soulmate, to feel something, to take whatever he could – for a moment he almost gave into it, too. Then he noticed the naked emotion on Nathaniel’s face, the odd mix of trust and confusion, and found himself leaning back even as his hand wrapped around his soulmate’s nape.
(NathanielwasapipedreamwasmaybetooperfectforhimbutifhetookhimnowlikeTHISthenhe’ddefinitelyneverknowifadreamcouldbecomereality)
“Be certain,” Andrew said, his voice thick for some reason. “Because I feel that I’m due an introduction with your father for some reason, an introduction where I have a very sharp or heavy object in my hand which I make very familiar with him many, many times.”
His soulmate gazed at him for several seconds as if trying to make sense of the words before he gave up and rested his forehead on Andrew’s shoulder. When Andrew glanced at Jean, the French bastard shook his head. “I’m putting my money on the Butcher, not a runt like you.”
“He’s an old man,” Andrew sneered.
“An old man who’s used to fighting off overreaching fools. Up your game, Minyard.”
Andrew gave him the bird while he combed the fingers of his other hand through Nathaniel’s hair; once he realized what he was doing, he forced his hands away from his soulmate. Nathaniel blinked at the loss of contact then slowly rose from the bed. “Aah, it’s late,” he said as he walked toward the bathroom.
Jean waited until the door closed behind him and there was the sound of water running to lean forward and gaze at Andrew. “He doesn’t say much about what happens up in the Tower, but I know that Ichirou doesn’t let Nathan touch him,” he told Andrew, his deep voice quiet in the small room. “Kengo doesn’t stop the bastard at all, but Ichirou does.”
Andrew thought about that as he gathered up the German language books then placed them on Nathaniel’s desk. “Why?” Why did Ichirou protect Nathaniel?
Jean shook his head. “I don’t know, and I don’t think Nat does, either.”
Yet another question to add to the growing pile of them, but at least Andrew knew that Nathaniel should be safe that Friday. Should. He’d have to wait for a better answer after their game with the University of Vermont’s Catamounts.
(When he was alone, with his soulmate, without any drugs in his system….).
Except things didn’t exactly go that way – Andrew should be used to life fucking up his plans by then. After all but shutting down the goal except for one point during his time out on court, he’d dealt with the usual post-game bullshit, showered, changed and was about to head to Nathaniel’s room (well aware of the clock ticking down on his drug-free moments) when Akagi insisted that he follow the assistant coach to Tetsuji’s office.
He was ready to ignore the man, except Aaron’s name was mentioned.
Well aware that he hadn’t seen his brother in class that morning, Andrew pushed aside the urge to tell the Moriyama lackey to ‘fuck off’ (along with the growing sense of nausea) and tagged along; the rare burst of true anger helped to push back the withdrawal that sunk vicious claws into his nerves until they sizzled with an aching itch that wasn’t quite pain.
Not yet, at least.
Andrew found his twin, bleary-eyed and reeking of alcohol, standing hunched over as to make himself appear even smaller in Tetsuji’s office with some middle-aged man who turned out to be the Dean of Science. He stood there and listened while Tetsuji basically talked the man out of evicting Aaron from Edgar Allan because of the stupid prank he and his ‘friends’ had done due earlier that evening to the stabilizing effect (what a fucking joke) he had on one of the Ravens’ most promising players, and that Tetsuji was certain that he could find something to keep Aaron busy so such an incident wasn’t repeated.
From the look Tetsuji gave Andrew, he knew that such a thing better not happen again, and that he’d be paying for the ‘Master’s’ intervention.
“How could you be so stupid,” he hissed in German while the two men hashed out the details of Aaron’s new ‘work study’ position.
Aaron wavered on his feet while he shook his head. “I didn’t- why the fuck do you care?” he whispered back.
Because the Moriyamas never did anything for free. Because the price better not involve Nathaniel. Because Andrew was always cleaning up for his twin. “You were supposed to stay out of trouble.” Andrew had done what he could to keep track of his brother while on campus, but that task had grown almost impossible between juggling classes, being a Raven, Nathaniel, and Aaron ignoring him the past few weeks. “Not break into-“
“You have everything,” Aaron turned to give him a look that was pure jealousy. “They’re already talking about you making Court, you found your soulmate, what else is there? I’ve got nothing.”
He certainly didn’t have any brains, Andrew thought with growing bitterness. He had a scholarship to pursue his dreams of being a doctor, he had the brother he’d begged for along with the second chance of a future. ‘Nothing’ indeed.
However, it seemed that Tetsuji and the other guy were finished, so away Aaron went, leaving Andrew to find out what he owed for his brother’s latest folly. “I suggest making him clean the bathrooms,” Andrew said as he struggled not to fidget from the growing drug withdrawals.
Tetsuji regarded him in that flat, ‘you are worthless to me’ manner which made him such a cheerful fellow for a few seconds before he leaned back in his big leather chair. “I know about the deal you made with my nephew, both about Nathaniel and being off your medication while on court.” His thick brows drew together very slightly, the only hint of disapproval on his usually mask-like face; if it were during a practice session, Andrew would expect the bastard’s cane to be brought down on him at any moment. “You shouldn’t need any incentive to do your best during a game, but one can be… irrational in regards to their soulmate.”
One could also be irrational as fuck in regards to their psychotic nephew, but Andrew (for once) kept his mouth shut, considering what had happened in the past few minutes, and considering the reference to Nathaniel.
(Oh, was it difficult, though.)
Tetsuji nodded once, as if pleased by his silence. “Your performance on court is exemplary and has helped the team to have one of their best seasons in years. Upon comparing it to how you play during scrimmages, I believe you were correct when you told Riko that you play best when off your medication. That’s why I’ve had Dr. Gale submit a recommendation that you’ve improved enough in the last few months and no longer need it.”
That… was not what Andrew had expected to hear. “He can do that?” He was supposed to have weekly sessions with the psychiatrist, per the whole court sentencing thing, but one of the very few good things about having signed with the Ravens was, due to the hectic practice schedule, after attending a couple of them, the weekly visits had just… stopped. Dr. Gale would swing by the court once a week to technically ‘see’ Andrew, but that was that, and nothing else was said about the matter.
“He already has; along with the recommendations from your professors and me, it’s expected to be approved.” Tetsuji gave him an intent look. “You’ll be checked in to a local rehabilitation center over the winter break and return in time for the spring semester to play unmedicated.”
On one hand, Andrew felt an odd fluttering in his chest at the thought of being off the damn medication early, in no longer having to take it (in being done with it earlier than expected after he’d found Nathaniel). On the other hand, he was being told to do something, and while he wasn’t the twin studying medicine, he could do a quick bit of math and realized that winter break didn’t give him a lot of time to come off an additive drug.
(But Aaron had done it, so why couldn’t he?)
His innate nature to do the opposite of what he’d been told struggled with the fact that this was what not only he owed to keep Aaron at Edgar Allan but was what he wanted as well; after several seconds, he gave the ‘Master’ a curt nod.
Tetsuji nodded once in return. “Prepare accordingly,” was all he said before he motioned for Andrew to leave.
Andrew didn’t waste any time doing just that.
Nathaniel appeared anxious when he reached his soulmate’s room but didn’t ask any questions. He took one look at Andrew and got out of the way as Andrew went straight to the bathroom so he could take the damn medication (only for a little longer) and get ready for bed. When Andrew came out several minutes later, it was to find that Nathaniel had switched out the sheets for him on Jean’s bed.
“Uhm, everything okay?” Nathaniel asked, his expression uncertain.
Andrew took a moment to check that his soulmate was unharmed (at least physically), that the only bruises on him were a couple fading ones from practice earlier in the week. “Long day.” He was too tired right then to talk about Aaron, Ichirou and winter break, too… it was too much. It would wait until morning.
Yet all Nathaniel did was give him a slight, earnest smile and went to fetch something from his desk. “Okay. Ah, here.” He handed over a small bundle wrapped in a black cloth napkin, a hint of pink on his cheeks. “There were snacks and since it was Ichirou… I was able to bring something back I thought you might like. Good night.” That done, he hurried over to his bed.
Andrew stared after him for moment before he unwrapped the napkin to reveal a large chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting drizzled with caramel, topped with a chocolate raven. Despite the slight upheaval to his stomach from before and the fact that he’d just brushed his teeth, Andrew felt his mouth begin to salivate and sat down on the bed so he could spread the napkin over his lap.
The cupcake was delicious, was the best thing he’d tasted in weeks, was a chocolate overload that made him want to groan in delight. Once he was done licking the last trace of buttercream from his fingers, he glanced over at his soulmate, who was pretending to be asleep. “Thanks, sweetpea. Next time, grab at least two.”
Nathaniel made an adorable growling sound before he spoke. “Sure, the more poison, the better,” he grumbled before he jerked the bedding higher up his narrow shoulders.
Andrew began to count the days left until winter break as he crawled beneath blankets.
*******
Excited for what happens in the next few parts. I always knew how this was going to end, but had a flash of actual dialogue the other night and... YES.

never seen you this happy, never seen you so peaceful
mac’s first birthday fic in honour of the birthday girl @fourdrinkamy 😘
She can’t believe she has a one year old, that it’s been a full 365 (and a half) days since she pushed Mac out surrounded by Scully’s fart candles and firefighters and Captain Holt dancing to Push It.
Obviously she is aware that a year has passed. She has finished a planner, started a new one, celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, watched her husband agonise over more and more grey hairs, completed maternity leave, returned to work, received a commendation for her work during the blackout and gradually fit back into her old clothes. Mac is no longer a not-so-tiny newborn and is instead a walking, talking, fully fledged member of their family. And yet it’s all happened so fast.
She’s spent two months of the last twelve planning this day; consulting Charles on food, Rosa on decorations (with a strict no balloon arch policy) and inviting every Santiago, Peralta and detective in the Ninety-Ninth Precinct to their apartment to celebrate Mac’s big day.
And he’s sleeping through it all.
She wouldn’t normally complain because she’s blessed to have a baby at all (there was a case involving a guy in the Colombian cartel and six stressful months where she didn’t think this was going to happen for them) and is especially blessed to have a baby that sleeps (her friends at Mommy & Me class are inconceivably jealous), but a first birthday is a big deal and she’d quite like him to be awake to enjoy it. Even if it’s only for 10 minutes just to get some pictures.
She thinks screw it and decides to wake him up. It’s a strategy that has worked out alright for her in the past, Mac’s very existence, and the wonderful life she is living now, owed to that fateful day where she showed up at Jake’s door with her screw light and breezy monologue.
She dodges Mason and Matthew running around like madmen, smiles politely at Holt and Kevin and rescues her Le Creuset pot from Hitchcock and Scully en route to the nursery. It’s a small room at the back of their apartment, formerly a guest room for whenever her parents came to stay, and if they have more kids in the future they’ll definitely have to move somewhere bigger, but for now it’s perfect. They went for a jungle theme with a mural (painted by Terry) on one wall, a giraffe twice the size of Mac and forest green cushions on her hand-me-down rocking chair from her parents. There’s a bookshelf overflowing with books, a couple of framed family pictures, including one from the hospital on the day he was born, and the simple Ikea crib that took them a full day to assemble.
She approaches said crib, Mac sleeping soundly inside it and leans down to stroke his father’s unruly curls. He shifts in his sleep, makes a noise of discontent and opens his big, beautiful eyes.
So much like Jake, she thinks for the millionth time.
“Hey, birthday boy,” she murmurs quietly. “Your whole family is here to see you, you know.”
He makes another discontented grumble as if to say “and you woke me up just to tell me that?”, closing his eyes again.
“Oh no, no, no.” She lifts him out his crib and bounces him in her arms. “Time to wake up, Mr Mac.”
She can hear the party in full swing in the other room, the muffled sound of Shake it Off coming through the speakers. It’s Jake and Mac’s favourite song and she genuinely has about 15 different videos of them dancing to it saved in her phone. She knows how excited Jake was to dance to it with him at the party and, as if on cue, he pops his head around the nursery door.
He immediately narrows his eyes suspiciously. “What are you doing?”
“Holding our son,” she responds, feigning innocence. “What are you doing?”
“Saw you on the baby monitor app, thought I’d come investigate.”
Investigate. Like she’s some criminal.
He has this theory. A completely baseless, more-insane-than-flat-earthers theory, that she likes to wake Mac up before he’s ready.
And OK, yes, maybe she has woken him up once or twice to go to the stationary store that had a sale on.
And, fine, sometimes after a long shift at work she gets a little impatient and prematurely wakes him up from his nap.
And she did just wake him up so he could come and enjoy his birthday party, but it’s a special circumstance and it’s not like she does it everyday.
(Except for weekdays which obviously don’t count because she likes to have him ready nice and early so she gets a bit of one-on-one time before she has to leave him with a ‘sitter all day).
(Weekends don’t count either because they’re her days off and she has a lot of baby snuggles to fit into a limited time).
“I’ll have you know that he was awake when I came in.” She sniffs defiantly.
“Of course he was,” he says, walking into the nursery with this smug look on his face that is simultaneously the most annoying and hottest thing she’s ever seen.
“You should let him sleep, Ames. There’s nothing wrong with him sleeping in. He’s just like his dad and I turned out alright, didn’t I?”
She glances at an unknown stain on his shirt.
“OK, maybe don’t answer that,” he adds in retrospect. “The point is that he’s a sleepy baby. The doctor said it’s totally normal and she could give us the numbers of a hundred other parents who would kill to have babies who sleep as much as Mac. We should consider ourselves lucky.”
“We are lucky,” she smiles softly at the little guy in her arms. “The luckiest. I just...”
“Miss him,” Jake answers for her, crouching next to the armchair and joining her in admiring their sleeping baby. “I get it, babe. We made an awesome kid. I miss him when he’s asleep too.”
She pouts. “I planned this amazing party for him and he’s slept through the whole thing.”
He opens his mouth to say something, then hesitates. She can practically see his brain whirring. It’s a familiar look, one he gets when he’s about to solve a case or say something super romantic. “This is happening,” he decides. And then he pokes one of their son’s adorable chubby cheeks.
Mac reluctantly opens one eye and upon seeing mom and dad, immediately opens the other. He grins at them and even after a year of cute moments just like it, it has still not got old.
“You just woke him up!” Amy gasps, offended. “How come you’re allowed to and I’m not?”
“Maybe I did it for you, Ames. You gave birth to him while managing a freaking citywide emergency, I’m pretty sure I can wake him up just this once to enjoy the birthday party you so brilliantly planned.”
“You’re the best,” she replies, kissing his cheek and hearing a click as Jake captures the moment.
“Birthday selfie!” He exclaims, grinning at her with the exact same smile as their son.
They rejoin the party and Amy holds him as everyone sings Happy Birthday and Jake helps him blow out his birthday candles (and later reveals that he wished for another Die Hard sequel and a brother or sister for Mac) and when Amy puts the finishing touches to His First Year scrapbook: Twelve Months, One Baby, she is certain that the last year has been the best one ever.
And they still have a lifetime more ahead of them.

Case #69696969
Rating: Teen Relationship: Kevin Cozner/Ray Holt
Case: 69696969
Date: 2/12/2019
Time: 10:23 AM
Evidence:
At precisely 9:02 AM, Prof. Kevin Cozner entered the bullpen. He was greeted by Captain Holt and the two entered Holt’s office.
Captain Holt closed the door and the blinds to his office when Kevin entered.
Immediately after closing the door to his office, Captain Holt turned on loud classical music.
Theories:
(1) Jake and Rosa’s
“Ob-viously they’re smushing,” he said with a mildly creepy grin. “C’mon. Blinds closed? Music on? Cap’n’s in there gettin’ soooome.”
“Agreed,” Rosa chimed in. “They’re definitely boning.”
(2) Amy’s
“Ew, guys! Don’t be ridiculous! Captain Holt is the strongest believer in professional workplace behavior I have ever met. Besides, they think a handshake is PDA! They’re probably just talking about something private like finances and they don’t want us listening in.”
(3) Charles’s
“Amy, Amy, Amy,” Charles smiled, “how naïve. Why would Kevin come in person to talk about something like finances when he could accomplish the same thing over the phone? Captain Holt may be professional, but he’s also a romantic. I bet he’s giving Kevin a secret gift for their anniversary.”
“Their anniversary isn’t until September, Charles,” Terry interjected, then clamped his mouth shut. He had been trying very hard not to get involved in this discussion. He sighed.
(4) Terry’s
“Look, Amy’s probably right; they’re probably just talking about boring stuff in there. But I bet the Captain might also take the opportunity to get a little kissin’ action going on,” he added with a smirk.
(5) Hitchcock’s
“You wanna know what I think?” Hitchcock butted in.
“No!” They all yelled.
(6) Scully’s
“I bet they’re talking about kissing,” said Scully.
“Why would they talk about it when they could just do it?” Jake asked.
“I don’t know,” Scully replied, popping a potato chip in his mouth. “I don’t know what gay guys talk about. It was my best guess.”
Results:
Holt’s office door opened and everyone’s eyes whipped around to watch as Kevin exited. His suit was just as clean and neat as it had been when he first came. Jake huffed in disappointment.
“Goodbye,” Holt said.
“Goodbye, dear,” Kevin replied, then walked onto the elevator and left.
“What are you all doing?” Holt asked. “Get back to work.”
“I told you, Jake,” Scully whispered as they made their way back to their desks. “Talking.”
“I said talking first!” Amy hissed. “You don’t get all the credit! It could just as easily have been my idea.”
Scully shrugged. “Don’t be a sore loser, Amy.”
She growled and stalked into the break room.
For once, Kevin had a day off.
A plumbing accident had caused the basement of Columbia University to become flooded. Initially, the university had simply issued a 2-hour delay, but when the repair company accidentally severed power to the rest of the building, the dean decided they might as well call it a day.
As it was still relatively early in the semester, he didn’t have much grading work to do and what little preparation was needed before his next class could be accomplished in little over an hour this evening. So, he decided it would be prudent to visit his husband for a little while at the precinct. He had some small matters to discuss with him and, besides, it was always pleasant to spend additional time with Raymond.
Raymond’s squad was friendly, yet not overly excited at his arrival. It had become an informally fortnightly occurrence for him to drop by on his husband, so they were, undoubtedly, used to his presence.
Raymond was expecting him, as he had called beforehand and detailed the accident.
“Good morning, Raymond,” Kevin greeted as he entered the Captain’s office. “I trust you are well?”
Raymond shut the door, closed the blinds, and turned on his CD of Nocturne n°13 de Frédéric Chopin . “I am as well as can ever be expected when Peralta and Boyle get over-excited about a case. What did you wish to speak with me about? Why this… secrecy?”
Kevin sat down in one of the chairs opposite Raymond’s desk. “You are aware, of course, that this Thursday is the fourteenth of February.”
“Yes.”
“Well, I wanted to know your opinion on some plans for the date.”
Ever since Kevin and Raymond had become serious about each other, Kevin’s mother had made it her own personal mission to try and convince Kevin to leave him. For some cruel and sardonic reason, she always chose Valentine’s Day to conduct her schemes. (She had told Kevin once that “gays aren’t allowed to celebrate it, since they aren’t really in love, you know.”) At first, this had meant she would show up uninvited and present Kevin with a million and one reasons why Raymond was bad, why all black people were bad, and even, once, why the police themselves were bad, which was especially shocking considering her conservative stance on law enforcement. Recently, however, she had taken to trying to trick or coerce Kevin into signing divorce papers that she would leave lying around or fold into intricate ‘Get Well’ cards for distant relatives. It was insulting, offensive, and taxing to be near her on those days. Thus, he and Raymond had taken to spending the entirety of Valentine’s Day in some new remote cabin out of cell service. It had become a romantic tradition of its own right, eventually, instead of simply a way to avoid his witch of a mother.
This year, they were headed to Oquaga Creek state park, which was happily out of cell and Internet service. Kevin had reserved them a cottage for the day.
“I thought we could begin with a stroll around the lake. I haven’t checked the weather, yet, though.”
Raymond nodded. “The weather should be clement, if brisk.”
“Hmm. We might want to stay inside the cottage, then.”
“At least until we are warmed,” Raymond agreed.
Kevin fixed his husband with a suggestive look. “That may take some time.”
“Not if we speed the process up.”
“Sounds pleasant. What were you suggesting?”
Raymond looked him up and down. “There are… a variety of methods one could employ.”
Kevin smiled. “Hm, you’re right. Perhaps trial and error? We have no guarantee of success with any one method.”
“Is that an invitation?”
“The cottage has already been purchased.”
“Does it come with insurance? It would be a shame were the heating system to fail catastrophically during our stay,” Raymond added lightly.
“Yes, such a shame. I believe it does have insurance covering small damages, but that would most likely not be covered.”
“Perhaps it would be better to simply not employ the system at all, to avoid accidentally damaging it.”
“These things are delicate,” Kevin agreed.
“Very delicate.”
“Indeed. Rather like that second edition copy of “The Bobbsey Twins” I have in my office. It requires very precise handling. Not everyone has the manual dexterity for such,” he paused, capturing his husband’s gaze, “delicate areas.”
“Oh, you rascal,” Raymond whispered.
“Is that an invitation?”
“The cottage is, as you have said, already purchased.”
Kevin rose. “Wonderful. I will leave you to your toil, then. I love you.”
“I love you, as well,”  Raymond replied, showing him to the door.
“Goodbye,” he said.
“Goodbye, dear,” Kevin smiled.
Jake, Rosa, Amy, Charles, and Terry all looked up from the security tape footage looking like they’d just been punched in the gut. Scully simply shrugged and smiled. “I told you guys. They were just talking about kissing.”
Hitchcock gave him a high-five.

You've mentioned that Justin seems to be pro Kevison, can you post all your examples?
Here’s some quotes from the actual captain of the Kevison ship (like, no joke he is actually so all in, it’s hilarious haha):
“But that is the love of his life so far.”
Him talking about Sophie after the A Hell of a Week: Part 2 episode. Take note of his “so far” comment as it obviously means he’ll have another love of his life and who else could it be...
“I guess it’s kind of a rebound...Then they have that immediate connection. I think it's just two people that were in need of something at that very moment. It was sort of like a perfect storm.”
Him talking about whether Madison was just a rebound. He always doesn’t confirm or deny anything about them two. The “I guess it’s kind of a rebound” is so telling. “Perfect storm” number 1.
“It surprised me, but I also think it's one of those things where [Kevin and Madison] both hit a rock bottom and they both hit a rock bottom today and she's saying these things about herself that are so sad. She can't find a guy to commit, you know? And he just spent the day with Sophie and it was almost like the perfect storm, right?”
“Perfect storm” numero dos.
I like the idea that they plant those seeds and then you wonder who it could be, but whoever it's going to be, it's going to be the right ending.
I mean, this is him already knowing who he ends up with at the end, so for him to call it “the right ending”? Okaayyyyy
It is so well put together. It is like a master class in how to tell a story. They've done an amazing job. It's really incredible.
When talking about the fiancée and how we’re going to find out about how they get together. And reading this after knowing that Madison’s pregnant with his kiddos and that in the soft flash-forward, his fiancée has morning sickness? Who else could it be but Mads!
They’re mutually annoyed with each other. She thinks he’s ridiculous. Hey, look: Things change. [Laughs]
The interviewer noted that Kevin has always been “kind of been annoyed by her” and that they’ve never sensed a “close bond between Madison and Kevin” and he goes to say “Things change”. LOL of course they do, when you have that heart-to-heart, boyooo
She’s not chopped liver...But at the same time, they’re both single. It was kind of the perfect storm: We’re both adults, we’re both single, whatever.
She’s not chopped liver! She’s significant, she’s important! Also, “perfect storm” number 3! How perfect really is this storm? Apparently, enough for him to say 3 times and counting!
“And is it safe to assume the woman he is married to is not the mother of his children?” I think it’s safe to have that question, but not to assume it.
This is Justin pretty much saying without saying that if we rule out Madison from being the wife at all, we will lose the game. Okay, Justin, promise we won’t.
“I think if you know Kevin and the way that his mind works and the way that he goes about his business and the way he attacks situations, when he commits to something, he’s all in,” Hartley said. “He didn’t have a romantic relationship with Madison because he never considered it, right? It was just not on his radar. But now, things have changed. She’s pregnant with what she says are his twins and with the information that he has, ‘OK, she’s carrying my two children,’ so now everything has changed. Everything looks different, right? What Kevin saw before was this flighty sort of annoying friend of Kate’s. And then it turned into this one moment that they had together where they were sort of sharing in their own misery, right? One was lonely and one was sad and depressed and it was a perfect storm and that’s kind of all it was.”
I have no other words. He’s pretty much said it all himself. Also, “perfect storm” number 4(!!!!)
“And then the unintended consequence of all that is she’s pregnant. So when she says things to him like, ‘This is kind of a miracle’ for me, I think everything changes. He sees her in a different light, obviously, and I think he will start to sort of have a relationship with her based on these new facts and the new information that he’s gotten. It’s not just, well she’s a person that Kate is friends with that is kind of annoying. I think he’s gonna really invest in the entire thing and try to get to know her. And, knowing Kevin, I think he’ll probably try to do everything he can to fall in love with her and have a family with her.”
Again, this is Justin saying without actually saying that they’ll fall in love and have a family together. He tries to hide it by saying Kevin will “try” but doesn’t that defeat the purpose of him saying that his kids will be the love of his life? Justin knows that Kevin saw something in Madison that made him go, HOLD UP, and now he’s going to figure out who this woman really is and then he’ll fall in love with her. Whew
‘I’m all in. This will be what I do. My child will be my great love story.’ I don’t know the answer to that, but it’s amazing thing to watch and see how those last few minutes set up the entire fifth season.”
As per above, Justin knows the answer to the whole “who’s his great romantic love story?” and he is so ready for it to unfold. Also, Dan has briefed him on all of season 5 and he thinks “it will be the show’s ‘best season so far’” and most of his storyline will be around Madison and the pregnancy. Game, set, match?
Although, like you said, morning sickness that late into pregnancy is uncommon. But it happens. He did look a little bit tired, like it's been a long, arduous pregnancy...a sickness that's not ending. I think it could go either way. You're on to something, maybe. Maybe, maybe not.
This is him on the defense about the interviewer’s theory of Madison not being the pregnant fiancée because it’s not common for women to have morning sickness in the third trimester.
I do. I do. I think sometimes the nontraditional and the unexpected relationships develop out of something that you in a million years would never guess that Person A would be with Person B. But, because of certain circumstances, they do. These two people find themselves together, and for whatever reason this person changed what they thought their life was going to be like and what they thought they wanted in their life. And the other person accepted a few things they thought they would never deal with. The next thing you know you have a kind of perfect relationship that is so strange when on paper. But it works in reality. So yeah, I think so. You also have a man who wants to have children, who was never taken seriously, who now has the means to support all of them. He's a year sober. He's found himself. He's comfortable in his own skin. He's older now. He knows what he wants. And you have this woman who never thought she would have kids and resigned herself to it. Then she ends up pregnant with twins. That is kind of a miracle. Miracles will make you rethink things, I think.
I mean, I actually have no words. He pretty much just wrote an entire essay paragraph as to why Kevin could have a great love story with Madison. Legit, the question was “Do you think Kevin could have a great love story with Madison?” and he goes on this tangent and more:
Love is a strange thing. If you let it happen, it could be wonderful. If you try to force it, then you're always going to be searching for something that maybe never was there in the first place. And not only that, but maybe you didn't even really want. You're shutting yourself out to things, because you had this idea about what your life was supposed to be. And there it was right in front of you.
AND THERE IT WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. Justin, my man, calm yourself. But also don’t. I love how onboard he is with kevison!
Then you have Madison...she is going to give him everything he wants. And also, she is not expecting anything from him. This could be the perfect love story for him.
Ah yes, the perfect love story for him.
Certain circumstances lend themselves to people changing their minds or sort of rethinking things that they thought. And also, I mean, gosh, he didn't see this happening, right? He doesn't even know her. So just to say that he couldn't fall in love with her, he doesn't even know her. So I think that's definitely a possibility, for sure.
Him answering whether Madison could fill the romantic hole in his life down the road. Note that he doesn’t, for once, deny that it can’t be a possibility. In fact, he says it’s “definitely a possibility” because he just knows and he is all for it.
I wonder if Kevin being all in with Madison is really that at all. I wonder if he's really all in with Madison. I wonder. I dunno.
When asked about dropping a clue about s5 that will make us wonder what he meant about “how many times Kevin’s going to be in the old makeup”. He’s pretty much telling us to be aware of what Kevin means by “all in” because in the s4 finale, it was meant for his kids and being there for the mother of his kids. But then he goes “if he’s really all in with Madison” so like, marriage and family, Justin? Pretty much!
Also, not going to forget this nugget from his Twitter page.
Anywho, there we have it! I know these are just from the recent interviews post-s4 finale and there’s tons more littered throughout s4 and even before that, but these are the most telling of him being so onboard with this ship and like Kevin, I am all in!
