i've never even seen the show First is from and yet i love your First x Chase Young ship so i have to ask. If anything did HAPPEN between the two of them what sort of emotions would they be dealing with afterwards?

Chase Young is a man who seemingly doesn't do softer emotions. Any possible feelings and reactions who could be attributed to him actually caring about First Ninja, are re-labeled in his head into him doing all of this because he is trying to manipulate First on his side (and he totally still is, but he also now wants to feed that man, talk with him during long evenings and perhaps take a nap with him, you know, disgusting cute domestic stuff amidst oh i dunno- taking over the world and being evil together. >;))

First Ninja on the other hand, is very much aware that for things to go this far means that he is absolutely having emotions about Chase. But he is also in denial, because how can he betray all of his moral standing and beliefs, if he starting to care about someone like Chase Young? So he shoves it so far deep, he is in denial about denial, and turns completely blind to anything even resembling them being something more than opponents who tentavely respect one another.

I wonder if with the whole chimney and the potential of being captain and the leadership skills thing, they are gonna touch on the fact that potentially part of chimney being so hesitant about it (and judging himself too harshly) is because the one time he got to be Captain and take on that much responsibility, Eddie’s wife died AND a firetruck exploded and almost killed his pseudo-little-brother Buck and not even offering himself up was enough to safe Buck, and I’m pretty sure he felt super helpless each time and we actually do know that he was really harsh on himself especially over Shannon’s death (and also from the time Maddie wanted to do the homebirth we know he has anxiety over being helpless/feeling like he wasn’t enough to help/safe someone)! so! I think the difference between the "I can fix him" trope and the "love helps people change" trope is that the former implies effort on the lover's part, and the latter on the person needing to change and grow.

Because a character realizing they're going to lose someone/have lost someone they care about because of their bullshit and actually fixing themselves because that person means the world to them? Beautiful. Poetic cinema. Zero effort on the other person's part. Character shows up on their lover's/family member's/best friend's doorstep like "you deserve better and so I'm going to do everything I can so that you are happy and have your back even if it means I don't get to be with you because I don't expect anything from you" and the other one looks at them and the concrete actions they took to do that and goes "Okay. Maybe you can stay."

Lo and Li and their (not) looking after Azula and Zuko in "The Beach"

I have talked a lot about Zuko and Azula lately because “The Beach” episode gives a lot of context for their relationship, but it would be a crime to omit the most funny detail (implication) coming from this episode: the presence of Lo and Li.

Those two older women were introduced into the series as Azula’s teachers (that definitely fueled her unhealthy sense of perfectionism) and some sort of advisors before the princess recruited Ty Lee and Mai on the hunt for Zuko, Iroh and later, the Avatar. The story alone gives little about Lo and Li, but considering their relationship and influences on the princess, we can assume they had, if not outright trust, then at least Ozai’s approval to keep an eye on his “precious”, prodigy daughter. As they were the only adults connected to Fire Lord and at whose house the Royal Siblings and their friends stayed in "The Beach" episode, I thought of them as not really nannies, but more like chaperones.

Zuko and Azula faced Avatar and survived, Mai and Ty Lee proved to be capable of beating down full grown men one on one (or more precisely, one vs many). So fine, ok, Ozai may trust his kids to be able to defend themselves - if the thought about their safety even occurred to him at all. But Zuko and Azula are, and I can’t stress it enough, teenagers sent on vacation and teenagers may do stupid stuff for fun just to taste the little freedom granted them. So it makes sense to me that Lo and Li should supervise the Royal Siblings, because vacation or not, they are still prince and princess, the precious heirs to the throne. And like, Zuko is with his girlfriend (official fiancee?) and you can never be sure what teenagers in love and with buzzing hormones will do, right? Same with Azula, who as we learn through the episode, will happily grab the occasion to flirt with a  handsome, popular boy and the innocent kiss turned out quickly into her passionate rant: “Together, you and I will be the strongest couple in the entire world! We will dominate the Earth!”. 

Azula’s mind really jumped from casual fun (no harm done if Ozai won’t learn about it) to the conclusion that boy she knew for what? a few hours at best will be her boyfriend and part of the future (military?) plans and understandable Chen freaked out and ran away. The taste of freedom affected even Azula, our so emotionally composed, clever girl, because again, a teenager, adolescent curiosity, lack of supervision and buzzing hormones are a dangerous mix. 

(I suspect Zuko getting Mai pregnant would be less scandalous than if Azula - the princess - ended with a bastard child at the age of 14/15. If Ozai would even allow the kid to be born.)

And what Lo and Li were doing the whole episode? Either giving some cryptic speech about how Ember Island is a magical place or encourage kids.

“Time to hit the beach!“ they said

while never bothering going with kids there

(or did Lo and Li have fun on their own ignoring the bunch of their temporary wards?).

And when Azula, Zuko and Ty Lee talked about Chen and why Azula didn’t betray their Royal Family status (and presumably of going to the night party)? Again, the two old women did nothing besides giving some more cryptic advice and saying “to the party!”.

Like, they were totally okay that Fire Royal Siblings (in range of age from 14 to 16) planned to stay at house of unknown boy(s) for the whole night. Again, Zuko is 16, at best almost 17, but Azula is 14 (at best 15) and I don’t think this is an appropriate age to let a girl - especially the princess you are responsible for - go to a party with presumably much older boys. 

(Unless this is why Azula demanded Zuko, her older brother, to be invited alongside her? Not like he checked out if she is alright before he was kicked out for the fight with Mai over some guy but I guess, with a sister like Azula it is easy to assume she doesn’t need babysitting, because Azula could and would kick Chen or anyone else’s ass if they pissed her off). 

My point is, Lo and Li could give the girls and Zuko some serious talk or at least ask to be careful or anything the supposed chaperons should say (or like,  outright demand from Zuko to keep an eye on his younger sister and the noble girls as the oldest and you know, the guy). Because Azula is first and foremost a princess, the same as Zuko is the prince and like, the Royal Family does not need any teenage drama and scandal (and from the previous episode we know Azula and Zuko are now the public figures at the capital).

I’m not sure if perceiving Lo and Li as some sort chaperons to the “banished for a weekend” Royal Siblings was author’s intention or not, but there is something incredible funny how those old women introduced as strict teachers criticizing Azula for not perfect hairstyle while she is working on her lighting technique - a skill absolutely amazing to have at the age of 14 - won’t even bother to keep an eye on the same girl and just let the whole bunch of emotionally stunted and traumatized teenagers freely roam on the “magical” beach and go to night party to total strangers. It is pretty hilarious if not a bit sad. Because wow, Ozai did not give much fuck about any of his kids one way or another. 

Aaand this is what I get when rewatching ATLA as an adult lol.

I know this is animations for kids/teenagers, but what if Chen didn’t freak out? Would Azula be curious enough to experience something more than just a kiss? And well, we assume Chen and Ruon-Jian are in age close to Zuko & Azula (as if they were adults they would be enrolled into army, I think?) But there is still a room for them being older than Zuko who himself is two years older than Azula. Also, them inviting Ty Lee & Mai specifically for how they look without bothering to ask for their name and the way a group of boys cornered Ty Lee to the point she needed to chi-blocking all of them kinda gives me the feeling the party was an occasion for them to pick up girl for night or something along the way. Dunno if I read the scene/intention right but it gives that vibe I guess…?

Gotta share a bit with you because it was the funnest thing.

Some of us arrived before the band, meaning when the bus came, we unintentionally trapped them in there.

Entertain the mental image of them staring thru the windows being like: Shite mate, we done fucked up. Bloody bastards are here already.

We were moved aside so the band could load in, during which you'd think the boys get in as well, so we don't see them.

NO! Bastards began walking in much later, being the most suspicious people ever.

Which would be fine, cuz no one ran to them, we were all calm and respectful and they had their faces covered.

AT FIRST! But Mr Token the Second and Third decided to stop giving fuck and kept walking around completely unmasked. (Sir, take everything out of the bus in one go!)

On accident I exchanged eye contact with II while shoving my face full of lunch, that fucker had the audacity to grin about my "deer in the headlights expression" XD

Each time they walked past we were like "Don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious" while covering our faces and looking away. Must have been quite the experience for the guys too XD

The concert was amazing, the crowd was lovely and so was the security. But dang was it the funniest mess.

What prompted IV to leave the venue and hour before the door opened, I have no idea. Man still did. SIR, wtf?!

Only Ves stayed hidden to us the whole time. Good for him, good for him.

Also the security guy during the day, being like "I don't know this band, but even I could tell when the performers walked in." and his "Are you here this early for photos and autographs?" to which we had to explain that "No, we actually don't wanna see the band. We are trying really hard not to see them! But someone is not at all trying to not be seen!"

Just finished my first playthrough of BG3. Romanced Lae'zel, but ending up turning into an Illithid because the idea of making Orpheus or Karlach do it didn't sit well with me (or my character).

Hi! ok so i was thinking about fanart and stuff and it made me think a bunch of thangs: Seeing as this is a game where gender, pronouns, and genitals are chosen separately i wondered on whether any of the ROs, excluding nonbinary options, were trans. I've seen other games make a characetr trans regardless of gender choice (in Moonless, Silas is either a trans man or a trans woman) or have the same sex characteristics regardless of gender (like maybe being cis as a woman but trans as a man). I was curious so i thought i'd ask! Maybe it doesn't really matter much seeing as they're demons and their bits might be just too weird to really mean anything and gender is more for aesthetics? Also, how explicit will the sex scenes be? I have no problem with smut but i guess that just because the story is about sex doesn't necessarily mean that it'll be super explicit. Will the scenes for the nonbinary ro's be written neutrally without mentioning sex characteristics or do they have a set bodytypes? Thank you for your attention!(also i am curious about your angel game idea, would you tell us more about that some time? :0)

the answer to this one is Yes And Also Sort Of Yes, albeit with some technicalities tacked on... to start with, Arianis falls into the category of having the same sex characteristics regardless of gender: f!Arianis is a trans woman, though m!Arianis is a cis man. some aspects of f!Arianis's transition have been magical in nature, while others have been more mundane, like taking hormones - this is to clarify that despite this being a setting with transformation magic, she didn't simply magically transform perfectly into her preferred body. some people might prefer that kind of transition, but it wasn't a priority in particular for f!Arianis.

next, you're right of course that though that when it comes to the demons that it does make the concept of cis/transness a bit weird to navigate, particularly for the older ones. Heluur and Twilit were both alive before physical forms were a thing at all, so it's kind of a metaphysical conundrum establishing what kind of agab that gives them lmfao. however, they did both personally have Some level of control over how their physical forms turned out once they were moving into physical space (and then later being forced to stay there), so if you want to consider their agab the ones that they took when they first settled on a physical form, then that's at least a place to start from.

but to be honest, i don't personally think that Twilit in particular would consider that to be their agab, since they still both had concepts of gender and identity back when they were noncorporeal. i guess it's up to you as a reader whether you agree or not and how you'd feel about it if it was your own situation, but i feel it's important to at least explain where each character sits on the spectrum of that decision haha

Heluur would consider himself cis despite the. wibbly-wobblyness of Choosing a physical form, but Twilit, in each of the selectable gender options, would be more inclined to choose trans. not just because as far as they're concerned their agab is "chaos" but also because they regularly change their physical form (including their sex) using magic and reinvent themself when they feel like it. however, i've never quite made a big announcement talking about this mostly because i'm aware that some trans people understandably feel uncomfortable with the casting of characters who are shapeshifters and etc. as good trans representation when it's essentially bypassing a lot of the struggles that real trans people face (though i'm also of course aware that there are other trans people who are fine with it and even like it a lot, as no marginalised group is some kind of monolith lmao).

basically i've been choosing to treat it as a fact about Twilit as a character, without necessarily assigning a label applicable to regular irl humans to them, since the regular irl humans to whom the label applies may have different and conflicting opinions about whether it also applies to Twilit. whether people consider them to be trans or not, the facts about their actions and thoughts aren't going to change. they would personally lean towards calling themself trans whatever gender is selected for them, but more because they absolutely wouldn't consider themself cis than because of personally believing that their experiences with sex and gender are congruent with those of trans humans.

hopefully that's a helpful answer lmfao... sorry it's a bit long but i do feel like it's a topic worth giving the respect of a thorough explanation. the other binary-gendered ROs all consider themselves cis.

the sex scenes will be explicit lmfao. i understand if some readers are uncomfortable with/don't want that, which is why i've always tried to put "put yourself first! don't play something you're uncomfortable with!!!" all over my posts and so on, but that is how it is. i have no problem with people choosing not to read - in fact i'd rather they do that than force themselves - so i do try to be as upfront as possible with this sort of information.

this may be somewhat contentious (as again, no marginalised groups are a monolith), but to me personally, as a nonbinary person, i often feel uncomfortable with explicit sex scenes that make a point to gloss over sex characteristics for nonbinary characters... it makes me feel. de-sexed, for lack of a better term. purposefully excluded to a certain extent. like, despite being nonbinary, i do Have genitalia, as do basically all other people, nonbinary or not. however, i do understand the reasons for people feeling the opposite, and i don't think they're invalid or that people Shouldn't feel that way.

again, i understand if people choose not to read the game based on how they feel about this decision, but due to my own personal perspective as a nonbinary person, i will be writing the nonbinary versions of Arianis, Malkorath and Twilit with set sex characteristics... n!Arianis has male sex characteristics (as you can probably guess from the earlier explanation regarding them), and n!Malkorath has female sex characteristics. in Twilit's case, it's going to be decided using a random selection variable lmfao.

i wouldn't ordinarily make such a blatant Announcement of these kinds of facts (in general i'd probably prefer to let it just come up in the game) but due to the nature of this game, it's going to come up sooner rather than later anyway lmao.

i've already talked A Lot in this post, but to give a brief kind of outline, it's a game that is very much about being an older sibling on a number of levels.

a god whose favourite child is humanity and who expects the elder sibling of angels to shoulder a bunch of the responsibility for caring for and protecting humanity essentially casts a bunch of angels out of heaven to come down to earth and kill an evil god who is trying to destroy all humans, and the group of angels that the mc is a part of has to deal with the trauma and travails of trying to get through the horrors of the war on top of dealing with how they're treated by their god. mc also has a younger sibling angel with them that they're trying to protect; i had the idea to use choices to subtly relate the way that the mc feels about humanity and the younger sibling to reflect each other lmao.

it's in a fantasy medieval-adjacent setting where the evil god has brought about eternal winter and roughly half of the ROs are humans that the angels end up having to work with (though the other half are from among the mc's angel comrades). it lives rent free in my head still i'm afraid XD i hope this is okay as a short brief on it!

Thinking about Mummies Alive again and that if the show was more true to ancient Egyptian mythology then Scarab would have run afoul pretty much the entire pantheon by killing Rapses.

Like...so many of the gods were devoted to protecting the Pharaoh, and cosmic balance was also a big thing in their cosmology. So I feel that Scarab’s whole “oh I’m going to murder the son of the man with the largest and most blatant amount of divine favor--who would have inherited that same favor--and use his soul to cheat death” scheme would have spat in the face of what the pantheon stood for.

Also, for a guy who’s utterly terrified of dying, I find it hilarious that he regularly allowed Ammut, the Devourer of Evil Souls, to just chill in his house on the regular. Honestly, any underworld deity would probably want a piece of Scarab, especially any that were particularly concerned with tombs and the desecration of the dead.

You know that Anubis once flayed Set and wore his skin as punishment for trying to desecrate Osiris’s body further, right? And Bes was a guardian of children? Scarab’s ass would have been grass.

I had them and Victor do what they could for the other plants (just a bit of watering and weeding of those plants that COULD be cleared) – Victor ended up finishing first, and I decided he could be the one to feed the chickens and clean the coop today. I know he’s usually the plant guy, but it does everyone good to switch things around sometimes! Alice, for her part, finished up her first batch of food and got sent to clean Moory’s shed and poor dirty Moory herself – though I had to stop her trying to eat Toothy the cowplant’s cake midway through. *sigh* One of these days I’m going to LET one of you get eaten, and then you’ll learn...

-->Anyway – she fed the cowplant, then went and cleaned Moory and refilled her feed with prairie grass hay to keep the cow happy. Along the way, she indicated she wanted to cook some waffles (a picture of the waffle iron appeared in her activity queue anyway), so I looked through the options and decided she should cook some pumpkin spice ones – something different, and it would use up the pumpkin in the fridge! While she finished in the shed, Victor finished cleaning the chicken coop and decided he wanted pineapple pizza for breakfast, which I allowed because it amused me. XD I then checked in on Smiler, broke them out of another perma-weeding loop, had them go around and get a few key crops (soybeans, black beans, plasma fruit, pineapples, poison fireleaves, noxious elderberries), then had them snag a bottle of fizzy plasma from the greenhouse fridge to drink while they worked on super-selling the rest of the produce. Though I did end up having them also snag some taro root and garlic first, because taro root is also good for making flour, and I didn’t think they’d ever actually HARVESTED any of the garlic they’d planted. Might as well, right? That’s what it’s there for! Happily, all this harvesting and super-selling actually maxed out their gardening skill, which is cool. :D Now the house has two super-gardeners to take care of all the plants!

-->With the garden all taken care of, Smiler got sent upstairs to go play a little Sim Scuffle (I think it’s everyone’s favorite game in this household), while Alice finished up her chores with Moory and went in to make her pumpkin spice waffles as Victor finished breakfast. Only for her to then immediately have to go OUT again because her werewolf temperaments made her feel like the walls were closing in on her. *sigh* I thought about having her indulge in some zoomies, but as the waffles were going to be done very soon, I figured it wasn’t worth it it (you never know how long zoomies are going to take, and the interaction can’t be canceled, sooo). Instead, I had her dig around in the yard for a bit (she snagged a sample of utranium for her efforts – pretty sure she already has that in her little collection, but always nice to get something while scavenging!), while Victor took advantage of the oven being free to bake some everything bagels (as I figured it would be nice to have something from him in the stand too). Once I was sure she was okay to come back in, I had her go back to the kitchen to collect her waffles and have some artful foccacia for breakfast (as Victor knee-walked to the bathroom, poor guy) –

Reason being, I learned from – okay, I actually don't recall now if it was an onlyabidoang video or a Petey Plays It video, but one of them did a video that showed how having one piece will give Sims an energized moodlet and actually REFILL THEIR ENERGY NEED AND KEEP IT FULL while the moodlet is active. (Have two in a 24-hour period, however, and you lose the benefit as your Sims become uncomfortable.) As Victor and Alice are always getting tired at odd times because of the weird hours they keep, this seemed like a great way to keep them happy and awake while they were out and about! :D Once they were officially Energized by ghost sugar, I had Alice head to the porch to grab the painting Felipe Sisson recently made on the easel out there (he visited during the party Smiler had a little while ago and painted something before he left – it was actually a really nice painting, I’ll have to give it back to him at some point) before sending her to the downstairs bathroom to use the toilet then lick herself clean. Victor, for his part, was kept busy by using the various pet poops he had in his inventory to fertilize a few plants close to evolution. XD Look, I had to get them out of the poor guy’s pockets! He came back as Alice somber-howled her way to lower Fury (didn’t want any inconvenient rampages while they were out and about) – and with everyone sorted, it was time to hit Hare Square in Windenburg with the Van Liddelton Snacks stand!
