Ethnic cleansing? Genocide? Apartheid?
Throwing around these buzzwords to describe the Israel-Hamas war because you’ve seen them on social media doesn’t make you right, and it doesn’t make you an activist.
It makes you ignorant, intellectually dishonest, and lazy for parroting biased talking points with no concept about what these terms actually mean.
What is apartheid?
Well, it was first used to describe the political system in South Africa and today’s Namibia whereby racism was institutionalised. This manner of governance meant that clear racial segregation would occur, in a manner that benefited the white race and would actively oppress those who had darker skin.
This meant that there were white-only spaces, white people would get prioritised when it came to education and jobs, and relationships/marriages between white peoples and coloured people were illegal.
Is Israel objectively an apartheid state? There are no laws that actively favour one group over the other. There is a sizeable population of Israeli Arabs that can thrive in the same way as the Israeli Jews can. There are laws against discrimination on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, and sexual orientation.
Palestinians from Gaza are allowed to work in Israel through a work permit system. There are about 150,000 Palestinians working in Israel, most of which live in Israel and some come from Gaza/the West Bank. They aren’t denied rights institutionally.
Is it harder to get a job or education in Israel if you’re a Palestinian from Gaza? Sure, because of different governments. It’s like how it’s a lot easier for you to find a job in your own country (in terms of paperwork and bureaucracy) than overseas. But you’re not denied the right to apply.
Of course, if you have a history of violence, a criminal record, or your family has ties to terrorists, then it’ll be a lot harder to get an approved work permit. But that’s not apartheid. That’s common sense, and a regulation practiced by all countries that minimally desire to protect their own population from danger.
Ethnic cleansing and genocide
These two concepts can go hand-in-hand. Ethnic cleansing refers to the mass expulsion or killing of a group of people based on their ethnicity. Similarly, genocide is the purposeful killing of a group of people solely with the intention of annihilating them.
Famous examples? The Holocaust, of course, where the Nazi regime believed in the superiority of the Aryan race and decided to declare genocide on the Jews, Romanis, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, people with “Asian features”, and many many other groups. Anyone who they didn’t think was “pure”.
Their aim was to ensure that the Aryan race propagated without having “impure” blood affecting the bloodlines. They even started a eugenics programme called Lebensborn to ensure that more pure Aryan babies were born.
More recent examples? The Rwandan genocide where the Hutus attempted to wipe out the Tutsis on the basis of ethnicity. They mandated that Tutsis mention their ethnicity on state-issued ID cards in order for the Hutus in power to be able to identify them and then kill them.
Or the Yazidi genocide which happened so recently, in which ISIL killed, raped, and sent thousands of Yazidis into conversion camps on the basis of their ethnicity. They also took Yazidi women as sex slaves and raped and tortured them.
Or the Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine State in Myanmar, and how there was a mass killing and expulsion of them from the country, forcing them to flee to Bangladesh to take refuge, crating the world’s largest refugee camp.
Or how ISIS killed thousands of people from Christian groups in Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and Libya because of their faith, leading the US, EU, and UK to label this as religious genocide and condemned their actions.
Has Israel been practicing ethnic cleansing and genocide on Palestinians all these years?
Well, the birth rate of the Palestinian population in Gaza, the West Bank, and in Israel has been steadily increasing all these years.
So, no. No ethnic cleansing, no genocide. They are free to have as many children as they desire.
The UN Genocide Convention
The United Nations has 5 actions that constitute genocide.
1. Killing members of a target group
Israel is targeting Hamas officials with the aim of wiping out the terrorist group and ensuring that such a deadly attack on Israeli soil doesn’t happen again. I suppose you could call it genocide against Hamas, but they’re killing Hamas because they’re terrorists, not because they’re Palestinian. Shouldn’t everyone believe in genocide against terrorists?
But look at Black Saturday. Look at Hamas’ rhetoric. They repeatedly call for the annihilation of Israel and genocide of Jews. When will the media start believing what they say, word for word, instead of trying to spin it into “hmm maybe they want to kill all the Jews because they’re freedom fighters!”
War has collateral damage. Of course the innocent civilians don’t deserve to suffer just because of the actions of their government, but there have been warnings given to the Palestinian civilians prior to Israel striking the areas. There are consequences of attacking a country first, and then having that country attack you back.
2. Causing people of the group serious bodily or mental harm
The UN refers to sexual violence as the prime example of non-fatal harm.
Sexual violence has occurred. Hamas have kidnapped and raped women and even paraded the bodies of half-naked women around. But I f Israel had done the same, it’ll be the first thing appearing on everyone’s BBC push notifications (without even being confirmed as true).
3. Imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group
Many people refer to the blockade that Israel imposed around the Gaza Strip as an example of this.
This blockade was imposed by both Israel and Egypt in 2005. Its aim was to prevent smuggling of weapons into Gaza, and isolate the reign of Hamas to the region. This was to ensure the safety of Israel and Egypt.
Did this blockade pose serious challenges to the Gazan civilians? Of course. But that’s a consequence of having a terrorist government. If you have a terrorist group running your country, don’t be surprised if neighbouring countries are extra careful about who or what they allow in or out of the borders.
Many authorities from other Arab nations have also expressed approval of Egypt’s border restrictions, and even encouraged Egypt to flood the terror tunnels that Hamas has dug under the city. As a side note, other Arab nations have not historically been very kind or welcoming to Palestinians. Syria has killed over 4000 Palestinians, and many Arab countries are now refusing any refuge for Palestinians. But no one cares about that because it doesn’t make Israel look bad. All they do now is use the images of dead Palestinians under the hands of Syria and reuse them to propagate fake news.
The blockade has been labelled as a human rights violation because of collective punishment. Many humanitarian organisations believe that the blockade has caused the Palestinian civilians disproportionate harm.
Contrary to popular belief, Israel isn’t disallowing humanitarian aid from coming through the borders. Fuel, food, hygiene products, clothes, and shoes have been coming through the borders regularly for years. The Gaza Strip also has electricity and internet access and water.
Do all these items reach the Palestinian civilians? Well, there has been evidence that Hamas has been intercepting a lot of the supplies sent by humanitarian groups. This is not surprising since the UNRWA tweeted that Hamas has stole fuel from hospitals in Gaza in order to launch more rockets at Israel (but quickly deleted it after realising that it goes against their agenda to paint Hamas in a bad light.) In addition, the returned hostages have mentioned that there are many aid supplies hidden in the terror tunnels by Hamas. Instead of giving them to the civilians, they are hoarding it for themselves.
There has also been video evidence that some people are reselling these aid items in stores at exorbitant prices in order to turn profits. This has been well-documented for the last 10 years.
Is blockading the region to mitigate terrorism a disproportionate response? Well, it’s like asking if heightened security and stricter border control at airports is a disproportionate response after 9/11. Is being cautious and worrying about the security of your country an irrational reaction to the constant threat of terrorism?
4. Preventing births
Gaza’s population growth rate per annum is about 1.99%, which is the 39th highest in the world! Their population is allowed to propagate freely.
Israel isn’t preventing births of Palestinian babies.
5. Forcibly transferring children out of the group
No, Israel hasn’t been taking Palestinian children and forcing them to convert/keeping young Palestinian girls as sex slaves. Like I said, if this was truly happening, all the news outlets would be so quick to publish the story before verifying it.
Can we trust the UN Genocide standards?
The UN is known for corruption and have been exploiting the Palestinian people by selling them the humanitarian supplies instead of distributing them for free, which they should because these supplies literally are donations.
The UN also has differing standards of what they would label as genocide. For example, they refuse to call what China is doing to the Uyghurs in Xinjiang as genocide, even though the situation does fit many of their own criteria.
Hence, to all of you out there overusing these terms without knowing what they mean, make up your own mind about things. No one can force you to believe anything and no one can force you to change your mind.
But at the very least, do your due diligence and educate yourself before spouting tired buzzwords. Repeating misinformation doesn’t help anyone and can be very harmful.

The Fire Warrior novelization is wild
For anyone who doesn’t know, Fire Warrior was a game from 2003 where you play as a Tau Fire Warrior trying to rescue a kidnapped ethereal before it’s revealed that the planetary governor that kidnapped the ethereal was secretly a chaos cultist and you have to deal with that too.
What’s more unusual though is that the game actually had a novel tie in and it’s wild. It’s not perfect obviously, there’s a lot of parts where it skips from the main character, Shas’la Kais, starting to do something to after it’s been done with maybe a fight scene with the boss. But to be fair it is a novelization of the game and constant variations “He then turned the hallway and shot some guys” would get old fast.
What’s even more wild is that the book treats everything you do in game as something Kais actually does. As a result Kais becomes this freakishly hyper competent killing machine fueled almost purely by daddy issues. Like he is a genuine blood drenched cryptid and there’s practically no characters that aren’t at least slightly terrified of him. And that is not an exaggeration.
Like from everyone else’s perspective Kais is just a fresh recruit on his first ever battlefield and out of nowhere he’s gunning down hundreds of guardsmen. He takes out a tank with a hijacked imperial turret, kills an attack helicopter single handedly, saves the ethereal completely by himself from a heavily fortified prison, two shots a space marine, fights off two attempted boardings of his ship (which includes killing four more space marines completely by himself), counterboards the Imperial ship where he kills even more space marines and even more hundreds of guardsmen crippled the ship with a bomb and nearly kills the entire command crew all by himself, fights off a demonic invasion in the ship while completely lost to his blood rage, cripples the imperial ship even more, killing who knows how many CSM and demons the entire time, solos a chaos dreadnought, goes back to the planet to kill even more chaos marines and demons, fights his way through a titan to blow it up, solos a warp spawn, and a demon prince, falls to Khorne for a bit and eventually even kills a greater demon.
Within the book the entire time he’s doing all this he never has a mech or supplies, he’s constantly forced to fight God with guns and ammo he’s scavenged from the countless corpses he’s left in his wake. He rocks up to the Tau ship in orbit before he sneaks into the prison literally drenched in human blood and there’s nothing they can do about it because he’s basically the single best person at killing in their entire army at this point
These are all the things he does in the book because he does them in the game and it’s a just amazing to see the rest of the world react to this video game character played straight. Usually in other game novelizations, the sheer number of enemies your guy kills is usually brought way down and is just chalked up to the enemy numbers being inflated in the game for the sake of gameplay. But Fire Warrior decided to say fuck that, our blorbo really is just this much of a hyper competent war criminal and you should fear for your IRL life.
And honestly?
I don’t think I could respect them more for that decision.

omg i like you work about vash & wolfwood getting jealous and upset.
anyway, can i request both of them conflict with the reader they word make her hurt/cry then the reader tries to run away from the gang (obviously that is useless) and how they try to fix it up?
thank you for reading this have a nice day! anyway I really like your work
of course!!
pairings; vash x (GN) reader , wolfwood x (GN) reader warnings; angst, swearing, a bullet wound that gets cleaned up in wolfwoods notes; how about some hurt with a little bit of comfort eh? hope this is okay! I did Vash's part with 98 Vash in mind but I left it kind of open !
Tumblr media
Vash
Your eyes are super focused on the blonde at the market as he leans down over a stall, eyeing all the goods they have in stock. On the other side, a girl giggles a bit and leans forward in her seat, pointing at a biscuit or something. You find yourself gearing up for war, your face fallen as you take a step forward. Something grabs the back of your shirt, and you turn around ready to take all your anger out on whoever is grabbing you.
Wolfwood lets out a low whistle when he sees your face, eyebrows arching. “Jeez what’s got you all twisted up.” He grumbles letting go of you so you can fully face him. “I was pretty sure you were about to just commit a murder on some random pastry girl over there- and now you’re lookin at me like you wanna tear off my head.”  He breathes out a bit of smoke. “Calm down. It’s not like Spikey is yours, eh?” He’s got a silly little grin on his stupid face, and you find yourself turning bright red.
He’s right.
Vash isn’t yours. At least, the two of you have never outright said that you were together. This idiot priest doesn’t know about the secret hand holding under the table though. Or, how you sit so close that your knees touch. He doesn’t know that sometimes at night Vash will slink over to you and lay down so his head rests on your chest. He doesn’t see how you run your hands through Vash’s hair as the wanted criminal falls asleep in your arms- the only place he feels safe enough to sleep.
Vash keeps all those moments secret. He pulls his hand away when others look, and leaves your bed before the sun can rise. He gives you the same amount of attention and love around everyone else, while whispering his devotion behind closed doors. It’s something you’ve never questioned, always assuming he was too shy to show your love off. Now though, watching as a girl bats her eyelashes at him while he leans closer…
You’re starting to doubt it all.
“It’s none of your business.” You growl at Wolfwood who just shrugs. “Just seems like you’re a little jealous s’all.” He points out patting your head. You shake his hand away and glare at him. “Maybe you should just talk to him.” he sighs, and you soften your look. It kind of feels like Wolfwood is trying to be…helpful? That’s weird for him. He’s right, again, though. You should just go talk to him.
So you do. You wander off in his direction, grab his arm, and pull him off into some secluded alleyway to talk. He lets out a  choked “huh?” put lets you pull him along. When the two of you stop, he smiles his signature smile at you and tilts his head. “What’s up?” He asks casually, reaching out to rest his hand on your waist. Of course he’s willing to touch you now that you’re hidden. You pull away, and his face falls when he realizes something is really wrong.
“We…” You start off and then shake your head. “Why aren’t we a couple?” you outright ask. His eyes widen and he looks at the floor. However, he stays quiet. “I mean- I just- We always hold hands in secret, and you always sleep with me in bed. We kiss sometimes, and you are always saying how much you care about me…why aren’t we together?” You continue on, frowning at his lack of response.
“Mayfly I…” He trails off. He doesn’t know what to say.
“I thought you actually cared about me.” It comes from your lips, raw with emotion. Why is he doing this to you? Is he just using you so he can get some comfort? Is that all you are to him? To you, he’s the moon and the stars. He’s your everything, Maybe that’s why you were willing to let him do this to you. You don’t know if you’re more angry or hurt. He looks so guilty, like he’s done something he regrets. You wonder if he regrets hurting you, or doing it at all.
“I do care about you.” he starts off. “But, being together officially is a bad idea. You could get hurt and I-” “I could get hurt walking outside right now! I could get hurt just being your friend, or being someone that you used to know. I could get hurt even if I had never met you. That’s no reason to lead me on.” You yell. “Face it Vash, you’re a goddamn coward” You whisper harshly. “If you can flirt with other people in public, but not me…then…” You trail off, tears in your eyes.  He rushes toward you but you shake your head and push him away. “You’re a coward.”
You walk away, and he doesn’t follow you.
You spend the rest of the day in some random bar in this random town, crying your eyes out. Wolfwood tries to talk to you, but you refuse to say anything about what happened. He ends up just buying you a drink and leaving you to yourself. The other two won’t even approach you, just staring at you from afar. Vash hasn’t been seen since.
That night you start shoving everything you can into a small black bag. You’ve had enough. He’s led you on long enough, and you need a break from Vash. You tried talking to him, and he gave you nothing but a flimsy excuse. He’s told you how much he needs you too many times to pull a stunt like that and you’re done.
Just as you open the door to leave, you slam the wooden thing against a person who lets out a groan. Your eyes widen and you step back as Vash appears, holding his now red forehead. “Vash?” You ask, reaching out to make sure he’s okay. You stop yourself, remembering you're mad at him. He probably deserved that a little bit. He looks up at you, eyes your back and jumps forward. “Hey- Don’t Leave- Please I need to talk to you.” He begs hurriedly. You back up and sigh. “I already tried talking to you and you gave me nothing Vash.” You grumble, trying to push past him. He stops you, placing a hand on your shoulder. “Please.” The look he gives you is so serious and pitiful. You can’t help but give in. “Fine.”
He sighs in relief and lets his hand drop. The two of you stand awkwardly for a second before you go. “Talk.” He lets out an awkward chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck shamefully. “Ah- Sorry I’m just- Okay.” He sighs and looks at you with a serious expression.
“I’m sorry.” He finally says out loud. “I messed up I- I shouldn’t have kept my feelings for you a secret. I really do love you. The truth is, sometimes I can hardly get through the day. There’s so much going on…and those little moments with you are the things that keep me going. I’m selfish.” He starts to tear up a bit, “I think you’d be safer away from me, but I need you. I need  your touch to get through the day. So I can’t just let you go.” He admits. “You are my everything, and I don’t want to lose you.”
“I’m a huge coward- or I was a huge coward. I don’t want to be anymore. I want to be with you even when people are looking. I want everyone to know I am yours….I promise.”
You’re tearing up by the end of his rant. You drop your bag to the floor and wrap your arms around him. He grunts from the force, and hugs you back. He rubs his hand along your back and shoves his face into your hair. “I’m sorry.” he whispers over and over again as you both hug each other and cry. After a while you pull away from him sniffling. “You promise?”
“I swear to you.” “I believe you.”
He smiles and pulls you in for another hug. “I love you.” And you love him too. You both move to the bed and fall asleep as you always do. The next morning, as the sun comes up, he’s still in bed with you. He holds your hand as you meet up with the others, and Wolfwood gives you a knowing smile.
Tumblr media
Wolfwood
It starts with a stupid kiss. He’s got his arm around you, sitting on top of the car as the two of you watch the sunset over the horizon. He pulls you close, and you tilt your head up to look at him instead, He looks down at you, and smiles. His hand draws circles in your arm, and he pulls you even closer. Then, his lips touch yours. Ever so softly, just a small graze, before he pulls away. At first you’re ecstatic. Your heart is beating in your chest, and you feel like you’re walking on air.
Then he whispers something under his breath so quietly you have to strain to hear it. He says “I’m sorry.” before getting up and walking away. You watch him leave, your heart breaking a bit. What did you do wrong? You didn’t kiss him, he kissed you! That’s not fair. You sit there for a bit, before getting up and joining everyone by the fire again. Wolfwood stays a few feet away from you, refusing to even look in your direction.
The next day you almost die.
A few bounty hunters find you, and start chasing after everyone. You jump in front of a few bullets that are headed for Wolfwood, and a bullet grazes your side- it could have so easily lodged itself in your abdomen if you had been only a couple of meters to the left. The pain is searing, but you fight through it to get away from the bounty hunters. Vash is safe, and everyone else is alive. That’s all that matters to you as you struggle to stay standing. You hold the wound, blood seeping from in between your fingers. Wolfwood is by your side within a second. The moment he sees the wound he’s shouting at you to lean on him, his arm flying around you.
He gets you into the car and keeps your focus on him as they rush to some random inn. It’s too risky to take you to a doctor in this city, but Vash can fix up wounds pretty well. The two men sit you down on the bed, They get some clean towels, some needle and thread, and alcohol. Wolfwood holds your hand as Vash applies the alcohol to the wound. You scream against the rag in your mouth, and Wolfwood squeezes your hand.
“It’s okay angel. Just take a few deep breaths- it will all be over soon.” The man whispers in your ear. He stays with you until the wound is all stitched up. He helps wrap a bandage around it, and eventually Vash leaves to give you two some space. After Vash is gone, Wolfwood sits across from you and sighs. “What were you thinking?” he asks, his voice wavy. “Oh? So it’s my fault some guys decided to shoot at us?” you yell back. “You took bullets meant for me! I saw you!” he shouts, his voice rasing. “So?”
“So? So? I can take bullets, angel! You can’t!”
“How many bullets does it take before you can’t get up anymore! Besides, it just grazed me!”
He growls and stands up shaking his head. “You think I’m stupid? If it hit just a little bit more to the left you’d be dead.” he points out, pointing at the wound. “Don’t EVER do that again or I will shoot you myself.” he snaps.
“You seem awfully worried for someone who ignored me all day.”
“Shut it.”
You open your mouth, then close it again. You want to ask about the night before, but is it the time? He’s finally talking to you again. It’s probably the only chance you'll have. Finally, the question comes out. “Why did you kiss me?” You ask, suddenly making his nervous pacing stop. He looks at you, and his face shows a number of emotions. Surprise, confusion, fear, then anger. “What?”
You sigh and repeat yourself. “You heard me. Why.Did.You.Kiss.Me?”
He clenches his fists and looks away. “Because you wanted me to.” He finally says. You stay quiet, and he keeps going. “Because you looked desperate.” He adds on, his voice a deep growl. Your eyes widen, and you feel your hearts shatter. He watches as your mood crumples before him, and you see the regret in his face immediately.
“I…”
But you don’t give him a chance. “Get out.” You snap. He looks at you, sad and unsure of what to actually do. “I said GET OUT!” you scream, and he leaves. He walks through the door, and as soon as you hear it click shut you start crying. Soft sobs that echo through the room and out the door where Wolfwood can hear.
As soon as it gets dark, and you’re sure everyone is gone, you begin shuffling around the room. You grab whatever you can and leave. You limp and stumble around, still pretty hurt, but you manage to make it away. With the little money you have, you buy a ticket to head out of the city. Two days later as you’re trying to buy a drink cursing at your now empty purse, a hand slaps some double dollars down and you curse.
He found you.
Wolfwood spins you around in front of the entire room and looks at you. “The hell is wrong with you?” he sneers. You look around at the prying eyes and nudge him away. “Why don’t we do this somewhere else.” you beg. He sighs and grabs your arm, carefully leading you away. Once you’re in a private area, he repeats himself again.
“What the hell is wrong with you? You run out in the middle of the night, hurt, and without a word? You know how worried everyone is?” He looks pissed. He doesn’t even have a cigarette in his mouth, which is usually how he deals with stress. “How did you even find me?” you ask, sighing softly.
“How did I find you? Did that bullet graze your brain too? Make you forget who exactly I am?” He lifts the punisher up a bit. “Of course I fucking found you.” he sighs and calms down a bit, anger disappearing. He looks you up and down, eyes landing on your side. “I’m fine. Now go away.” you mumble turning away.
“No.” “No?”
He shakes his head. “I did that once- I’m not doing it again.” He says simply. He sets the giant cross down, leans it against a wall, then faces you head on. “I need to tell ya something.” He says, guilt in his voice. You bite the inside of your cheek and nod. You want to hear what he has to say, even if you’re pissed at him.
“I’m sorry.” He admits. You look up at him surprised. “What I said to you that night…I shouldn’t have said it. The thing is I…” he trails off and sighs. “I’m bad at my feelings. I kissed you cause I wanted to. I just saw your face in the glow from the sunset and couldn’t help myself. I got scared though. Had this sinking feeling it would end in you getting killed- and then you tried to kill yourself for me and I got even more scared…and I just wanted to say something to get you to drop it...I think…” He reaches a hand out and cups your cheek. “I think I love you or something.” It comes out so softly that you almost don’t believe he said it. But he did. You fall into his arms, and he holds you close. He kisses the top of your head softly. “I love you too.” you mumble into his chest, and he squeezes you a bit tighter.
"Have you been cleaning your wound?" he asks pulling away. You nod, but he doesn't seem to believe you.
He pulls you along to meet up with everyone else, who are all happy to see you. After that he forces you to room with him and cleans your wound softly. It goes unsaid, but there's a relationship shift. When he kisses you again, he doesn't pull away.

Patrick Jane x reader - similar
Tumblr media
May I request a Patrick Jane x Holmes Reader (I just recently started watching The Mentalist and I'm obsessed) where the reader is Sherlock's sibling and just as observant as him, maybe the reader and Jane meet on a case or something? - @elemental-of-magic💜
You didn’t particularly like want to go to America, but you Mycroft needed to send someone over to help and out of you and Sherlock he decided you were the best fit.
So here you stood at the crime scene, arms crossed over your chest as you just looked around.
“Excuse me, are you supposed to be here?” A man asked.
You flicked your gaze to him, looking him up and down.
“I can ask you the same thing Patrick Jane, you’re not part of the CBI, you’re not a agent or a detective for that matter.”
He rose a brow at you.
“And you’re not part of the CBI either, but you are a detective.”
You smirked a little, reaching into your pocket, you pulled out a badge cover and tossed it over to him.
“Government agent.” You said.
“But going to be a senior agent aren’t you?”
He walked over and handed you the badge back.
“It’s not about age, it’s about efficiency.”
He nodded his head and looked at you.
“So, what’re you doing so far from home?”
“You’re criminal is actually my criminal, and I know exactly how to find him.”
“Then you better act fast because we’ve just found another body.”
You turned around to look at a woman and you were quickly introduced to them all.
It only took you a few hours to locate your criminal, and he was arrested, and you looked at your phone.
Mycroft: good job. Come home in a few days.
You didn’t bother to reply, you just set it back on the desk and you looked around in boredom.
You grew tired of just banging about the office, so you made you way to their kitchen to make some tea.
“I know you’re behind me.”
“How?”
“You’re not exactly quiet walking.”
“Observant.” Patrick said.
You turned around, setting your cup on the table you sat down and he sat opposite you.
“So, if you’re so observant tell me about me.”
You scanned him up and down, and you began to list everything about him, only leaving out the part about his reason for being with the CBI.
He nodded along.
“You left things out.” He said.
“I assume they would be rather sensitive topics for you.”
“Thank you.”
You gave a nod and sipped your tea.
“You know, revenge won’t do you any good, it won’t give you closure or heal the pain you feel.”
“How’d you know I just didn’t want him arrested.”
“After what he did you’d want more than him to be thrown in prison. But let me tell you, it isn’t worth it. Let him rot away for the rest of his life, sitting with the knowledge that when you find him and arrest him, he has to know he’ll never see the outside world again.”
Patrick nodded his head a little.
“Do you have to leave soon?”
“Not unless my brothers need me.”
“Perhaps you can help me track down Red John?”
You leant back in your chair.
“It is not my war to fight.”
“I understand, I just thought you could offer some insight is all.”
You looked at him.
“I will help you either way, but I will do nothing more than review any evidence you already have. This is not my fight Patrick Jane, it is yours and yours alone, but I will offer you support.”
“Can I ask why?”
You took a small breath.
“I understand the pain of loosing someone you love. I believed my brother was dead for two years, and nothing could heal that pain.”
“He’s not dead?”
“No the bastard faked his death with the help of our older brother. Currently I’m not on talking terms with either of them.”
“I understand why not.”
You looked away and turned back to him after a moment.
“I haven’t introduced myself yet.”
“(Y/N) Holmes, I put it together based on the initials on your badge.” He smiled

Summary: The reader talks about what they know how the team, and follows them to a bar.
Chapter four: The narcissist
I know I said I wasn’t going to leave anything at the crime scenes, but the FBI are letting me get away with what I am doing far too easily, and I can’t let an innocent person get put away for the crimes I have committed. Also, I’ve heard stories of SSA Aaron Hotchner and Dr Spencer Reid. They aren’t innocent men, are they? I heard what Mr Hotchner did to that man who killed his wife, and well Spencer, he’s spent time in prison, and he’s made friends with someone like me.

I knew it wouldn’t be too long till they were on my case, I mean some of my friends had been trying to kill someone on their team. Miss Garcia, the smart, computer nerd. She’s the one who solves the majority of the cases, but everyone else takes credit. I kind of feel bad for her, I mean she was once on the right side of justice, but then she joined the FBI. Miss Prentiss, she once worked with, well actually dated, someone who was once in the IRA, so she doesn’t have the best track record either really. Mrs Jareau, someone who was once a media liaison and then got taken away from the FBI to a war zone. Mr Rossi, the man with so many ex-wives and a racist past, who fought in a war and helped create the BAU, not much to be said about him. And finally, Mr Alvez. He’s my favourite, war veteran, with a love for his dogs. He seems like the nicest out of all of them, I wish he wasn’t in love with Garcia.

All of them think they are better than me, what because they work for the law. But how many people have they killed because they have been certain they have committed terrible crimes. They all have troubled pasts, and that’s what led them to join the BAU. But so did I, and so did basically everyone I knew, but none of them joined a government agency and none of us had ever killed someone who was innocent.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that they were all just hypocrites. They were supposed to be the ones upholding the law, but they were just as flawed and twisted as the criminals they were trying to take down.

Though I liked paying cat and mouse, I was going to take a break from killing for a while, just so they wouldn’t catch me before I wanted them too. I also wasn’t worried about them trying to connect me about my job, like they did with Cat Adams, because unlike her I thoroughly screen the people asking for my help.

For my time off, I went to Washington. I needed to keep a close eye on them, I mean I knew them, but they had no idea who I was. I saw they would visit this bar regularly; it was cute to watch them all sit around a table and drink, share jokes, and laughs like they weren’t all killers.

As I observed them, I noticed something interesting. Dr Reid was always the quiet one, the observer, the thinker. He would take in everything that was happening around him, like he was seeing through people's masks and into their true selves.

Then, I saw SSA Hotchner enter the bar, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on the table where his team sat. He walked over to them, his demeanour serious, and they all seemed to straighten up in their seats. It was like they knew he was the boss, the one who held all the power.

But as I watched them, I realized something else. They were a family, dysfunctional and flawed, but a family, nonetheless. They had each other's backs, no matter what. It was nice, sometimes I wished I had a team like that, but I knew I worked better on my own.

I continued to watch them, intrigued. They were all so different, yet they worked together seamlessly. They were all intelligent and skilled in their own ways, but Dr Reid stood out to me. There was something about him that drew me to him, something vulnerable, something broken. I wondered what it was that had led him down the path he had taken.

I knew his basic history, his troubled mother, his absent father, the bullying he had faced and how he had then lost his only other father figure, Jason Gideon. But I wanted to know about him.

I decided to approach Dr Reid. I knew he was smart, but I didn’t expect him to see through my disguise so quickly. He looked at me with his beautiful brown hazel eyes, I knew he was sizing me up.

“What can I do for you?” he asked, his voice calm and measured.

“Are you Dr Reid, I know this may seem creepy, but I saw you standing here I couldn’t believe it, so I’m just making sure it’s you.” I said with a soft smile.

“I am indeed. What’s your name?” He asked in a neutral tone.

I hesitated for a moment. I knew I had to be careful. “My name is Emily.”

“Well, Emily, what exactly can I do for you?” He asked with a smile, well more like a smirk.

“I wanted to talk to you about your work with the BAU. I’ve read some of your papers, and I think you are pretty amazing” I said, hoping to gain his trust.

Dr Reid raised an eyebrow in suspicion, but he didn't seem to be hostile towards me. "Thank you. But what do you want to know exactly?" he asked, his gaze never leaving mine.

"I'm just curious about the work you do, the cases you solve. I find it fascinating, and I thought it would be great to pick your brain a little," I said, trying to sound as friendly as possible.

Dr Reid gave me a small smile, and I could see the gears turning in his head. "I see. Well, I can't talk about ongoing cases, but I'm happy to chat about the work we do in general," he said, his tone polite.

I nodded eagerly, feeling a rush of excitement. Dr Reid was actually talking to me, and I could feel a strange connection forming between us. "That's great. So, what's the most challenging case you've worked on so far?"

Dr Reid's face grew serious as he thought back on his experiences. "There have been many challenging cases, but the ones that stick with me the most are the ones involving children. It's heart-breaking to see the amount of suffering they go through and the pain it causes their families," he said, his eyes filled with sadness.

I nodded, feeling a pang of sympathy for him. "That must be tough," I said, my voice soft.

He looked at me, his expression curious. "Why are you interested in this? Are you a student of some kind?"

I shook my head, trying to keep my composure. "No, I just find it fascinating. The human mind and what drives people to do the things they do," I said, hoping he wouldn't see through my lies.

Dr Reid continued to study me, his gaze piercing as he tried to determine my true intentions. I could feel my heart racing in my chest, wondering if he could sense my true nature.

Finally, he seemed to relax slightly, nodding in understanding. "I can certainly understand the fascination. It's a complex and often troubling field, but one that can also be incredibly rewarding," he said, his tone thoughtful.

I smiled, relieved that he didn't seem to suspect anything. "Exactly. I've always been drawn to the darker side of things, I suppose," I said, trying to sound casual.

Dr Reid's expression grew more serious, and he leaned in slightly. "Be careful with that kind of fascination. It's easy to get lost in the darkness, and it can be hard to find your way back," he said, his voice low.

I couldn't help but be intrigued by Dr Reid's warning. It was like he knew something about me that even I didn't know.

"I'll keep that in mind," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Dr Reid nodded and leaned back, seeming to relax once again. We continued to chat for a while, discussing various cases and theories about criminal behaviour. I found myself drawn to his intelligence and passion for his work. It was like he could see right through me, like he knew my every thought and desire.

As we talked, I couldn't help but feel a growing attraction towards him. There was something about his vulnerability and his intelligence that made me want to know him more intimately. I knew I should be careful, but the pull was too strong. I had to have him.

I could see the desire in his eyes as he spoke, the way he looked at me with a mix of curiosity and intensity. It was like he was trying to figure me out, to understand me on a deeper level.

I knew I had to make my move. "Hey, do you want to get out of here?" I asked, my voice low and seductive.

Dr Reid looked at me, his expression unreadable. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice cautious.

"I mean, do you want to come back to my hotel room with me?" I said, my hand reaching out to touch his arm.

Dr Reid pulled back slightly; his eyebrows furrowed in concern. "I'm not sure that's a good idea. I hardly know you," he said, his voice hesitant.

I leaned in closer, my lips almost touching his ear. "You know me enough. Trust me, it'll be worth it," I whispered, my hand sliding down his arm.

Dr Reid hesitated for a moment, his gaze flickering between my face and my hand on his arm. I could see the conflict in his eyes, the desire warring with caution.

Finally, he made his decision. "Alright," he said, his voice low.

I grinned triumphantly, leading him out of the bar and towards my hotel room. As we walked, I could feel his eyes on me, studying me intently. It was like he was trying to figure me out, to understand the darkness that lay within me.

"Reader is famous for faking all their orgasms and Poe takes it as a challenge. Later Poe is counting all Reader’s orgasms during sex." LDKFHGFKL
OMG THIS IS PERFECT sorry these prompts have taken me so long to get to
It’s not like you meant for everyone on base to find out. You just started by telling a group of your friends.
And it’s not like you do it on purpose. But when a guy you’re sleeping with says “yeah, I can tell you’re getting close. Come for me” and you’re actually nowhere near coming, it’s less embarrassing for everyone involved to just… fake it.
You’re not sure which one of your friends started spreading the fact that you’ve never had a real orgasm during sex, but a lot of people on base are very outraged by this revelation.
More than one past fling storms up to you, very publicly in the mess hall, and screams at you for faking it, for making a fool out of them.
It very quickly turns into a nightmare.
The girls all sympathize—most of them probably haven’t had a real orgasm during intercourse, either. But the men all treat you like some kind of war criminal; like it’s your fault they aren’t good in the sack.
Well, most of the men. All except one.
You’ve never slept with your commander but maker, have you wanted to. He’s everything you’ve ever wanted out of a man. Incredibly smart, handsome, charismatic, and so sweet. He makes friends with everyone he crosses paths with, never forgets a face or name. You’re not the only person on base who would give just about anything to have a shot at him.
Not to mention the fact that Poe Dameron is rumored to be incredible in bed. Which is honestly a surprising rumor to be so commonplace because you’ve talked to nearly every person on base and you’ve never met a person who actually has slept with him.
Odds are, he hooked up with one person and the details they gave their friends were so mind blowing that they spread around base faster than a wildfire.
But as fun-loving as he can be, his main focus has always been on the job. He’s one hundred percent invested in this war, in helping all the people that he can.
So it’s more than a little frustrating when he hears these rumors about you and suddenly you’re all he can think about.
It would be a lie if he said he’d never thought about asking you out before, but the need to fight this war was always greater than the need to set a foundation for after it.
It’s not so black and white anymore, though. Because he feels awful about the way your fellow resistance members are treating you, and awful for the way you’ve never slept with anyone worth your time.
He’s positive he’d be worth your time.
It takes him a while to figure out how to ask, and when he finally does? It doesn’t go according to plan, because of course it doesn’t.
He’s leaned so casually against your x-wing, smiling genuinely as he talks to you and he’s about to ask you out when BB-8 comes from out of nowhere and practically tramples you.
Moment ruined, and now he has to pick you up and apologize profusely for his rude droid (who’s definitely going to get a half-hearted scolding later).
You insist that you’re fine, that you don’t mind at all, that BB-8 probably had somewhere important to be, and Poe’s so overwhelmed by your kindness where most people would be outraged that he just kisses you. It’s completely involuntary but suddenly his lips are pressed to yours and you’re moaning into his mouth and tugging on his shirt to pull him closer and he’s not mad about his droid ruining his speech.
You start to tug him towards the ladder of your x-wing as the kiss deepens and grows desperate, and it takes every ounce of his willpower to tell you, “no, not here.”
Instead, he takes you back to his quarters, hand in hand and both practically jogging because of how eager you are.
He presses you up against the closed door once he gets you inside and murmurs “you won’t have to fake it with me,” against your neck, and no combination of words has ever made you shiver quite like this.
But even with all the rumors you’ve heard, part of you is scared you’ll have to fake it with him, too. That maybe you’re broken or there’s something wrong with you and you’ll never actually orgasm with another person.
He shuts that thought down faster than he dragged you to his quarters.
He barely has all your clothes off before he’s pushing you back on the edge of the mattress and dropping to his knees in front of you.
“I’m not in a rush,” he tells you as he brushes his lips against your inner thigh. “Take all the time you need, okay? Show me what you like.”
But you don’t have to say a damn word to him because he somehow knows exactly how to curl his fingers, exactly how to flick his tongue against your clit, and suddenly you’re having the most earth-shattering orgasm of your life.
You whine and push him away when you get too sensitive, and when you see the pure shit-eating grin on his face you can’t help laughing.
He grins along with you, placing gentle kisses up your body until he finally meets your lips. It’s all gentle passion, trying to convey deeper feelings through a simple kiss.
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispers, gently guiding your legs around his waist. “Thank you for letting me take care of you.”
You’re amazed that this wonderful, selfless man is thanking you when he just gave you your first non-self-inflicted orgasm.
“Thank you for taking care of me,” you whisper back, trying to convey your affection by scattering little butterfly kisses across his jaw.
“You don’t have to thank me.” His smile is genuine as he takes your chin gently between his thumb and forefinger. “This is entirely selfish on my part. I knew you’d be gorgeous when you came, and I really wanna see it again?”
Your eyes go as wide as dinner plates. “Again?”
He just chuckles at your incredulity. “You poor thing. You’re not gonna be able to walk tomorrow.”

OKAY MY TURN NOW: drop the headcanon deets. What's living rent-free in your head right this moment 👀
HOLY SHIT GOT SHOT BACK- LANDKSBDKAHDKAND
But alright!! There’s so many (Aside from Legends Reborn)
I mostly keep this shit in my head and I can make a huge list of it but dawg most of mine involves my silly interpretations- plus I seen people
It’s kinda a mess to think about but I’ll go to my personal favorites
X being chunky always gives me some feels for me, like he would fucking rock it. He’s actually more tanky then Zero while he’s sorta at times a glass canon (Mf Died like multiple times and X died Once). It derives from the idea of why he chose a thicker body, because the area of his stomach was pierced by Sigma like twice. So basically it gives him extra defense. Despite the it he’s just a Flexible as ever but a bit more slower.
Meaning that his “Stomach” area is incredibly sensitive and he will smack you on instinct if you touch it. He suffers phantom pains occasionally. It's a massive bitch but he got used to it.
(Aka I believe Burly/chunky X supremacy)
X has a soft spot for children okay, since he’s very approachable to children, he would even let them draw on his armor. Babies are a definite weakness of his their tiny hands will make him cry so hard
So it would make sense that he would be a parent but he would rather settle down to start a Family in peace times and after he himself healed and rested.
Zero is kinda a low key creature, in the sense that he actually has retractable claws and can run on fours but only for extremely rare occasions. That's because he’s not only the ultimate war but also the ultimate predator. Aka he’s fucking lion coded
One of the reasons why X and Zero are always different compared to other Androids and shit is because they were made from Alien tech/Energy stuff. You can’t fucking tell that Dr Light didn’t used the material that Duo left to include that while making X right? And Zero…We all know Wily was on some crack (I’m always a believer that He used evil energy to create Roboenza and what could eventually become the Maverick Virus). And no one knew about the whole fiasco with Duo aside from Megaman and the others. So it makes sense that Light and wily (Possible Cossack knew something about it) Used it for their final creations.
Marty (From the MMX manga that I’m absolutely so normal about) has so much knowledge of Marine life and the ocean, Rescue worker regulations and information is insane. How the flying shit did a marine rescue worker end up as an infamous Pirate Queen is a mystery to anyone.
She's also tall and muscular and is absolutely more “Beast-like” (Having scales, fangs and retractable webbed claws) to give off a more intimidating impression to keep folks away from her and her crew.
Speaking of her Crew they are all composed of other marine Rescue types, a couple Human Cyborgs (and a few non cyborgs) and a few Repliforce defectors. (A small fun fact in my silly XxMarty Valentine manatee oneshot, Marty brought up Gale Albatross who’s actually a former Repliforce soldier that defected as soon as they declared independence not wanting to be apart of it but is untrusting towards the hunters).
She may not look like but she genuinely cares for everyone in her crew and would do anything to protect them. She also courted her hair after her fight with Byte back at X3 manga. She has matured over the years but still holds her mischievous/prideful personality.
Contrary to what it's led to believe her crew aren’t like…bad or act like actual pirates. It’s more like they are more of an independent group. Since that they deal with poaching, taking out criminals out of sea, providing relief for coastal communities that were strongly affected by war, etc…They just Red Alert if they weren’t Bounty hunters.
Axl is absolutely a Streamer and a bit of a meme master. He’s a deadly actor and trickster so watch out he fucking glad that he’s a goober!!
Since I’m on a Legends kick
Legends is underrated as shit I mean the potential is great! It’s so fucking expansive Idk where to start-
WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH CARBONS??
LIKE NO ONE IS MAKING HEADCANONS OF THEM AND ITS A CRIME!
I’ll probably do some of mine at somepoint how they are Biomechanical creatures and how they diversified and evolved (The master basically granted them access to things that were lost that belonged to their Reploid ancestors.)
Or how the Ruins can be function as Mystery Dungeons and the different between an Official Digger and a independent Digger and so much wkrbekeheiba)
There’s are what I have but dawg so many in my little critter brain of mine

I agree team RWBY haven’t made remnant worse but I question what they’ve done to make it better? There is ruby’s message which does “unite” them in a vague sense. But as far as actual institutional change they haven’t done much, the white fang has ghira in charge again so they’re more or less the same as before sienna, stopping Adam was the right thing to do but it doesn’t make life better for the Faunus, it just stops it from getting worse.
The status quo hasn’t really been changed except as a result of Salem’s actions.
This isn’t to say team RWBY aren’t still hero’s and deserve praise for what they’ve accomplished tho. They’re doing their absolute best to keep the world from burning lol.
First of all, I should note that our heroes had barely been given their licenses during the Atlas arc. This grants them at least some measure of legit authority to actually do anything about the status quo from a grander perspective. They are not politicians, they are not leaders, they are barely children as far as the rest of the world is concerned. The idea that it's all on them is a little ridiculous to me.
Secondly, I'd say the "status quo" has been shifting constantly since the days of Oz and Salem. Humanity 1.0 had magic, a full moon, and gods to hear their prayers. The gods then killed humanity, left the moon shattered, and a bitter and broken Salem behind.
Humanity 2.0 had aura, dust, semblances, Grimm everywhere until Oz and Salem came along as the "New Gods" as it were. Unfortunately, their period didn't last thanks to Oz and Salem's...disputes on what they wanted to do with the world.
So, you have a long period where Oz is stuck for what to do until The Great War. Following that, the monarchies are abandoned and the council systems with the Huntsmen Academies are born...as well as the Faunus War and Faunus Rights Revolution and Vytal Festival. None of THAT had Salem's hand in it.
Spoilers obviously for RWBY, and Naruto, under the cut.
As for what our heroes have accomplished, well, let's really look:
Stopping a master criminal that ran circles around other criminal organizations, the police, AND Ozpin and huntsmen he sent after them for years. Which then STOPPED crime, according to Qrow.
Safeguarding Vale, or at least aiding in its defense. They stopped the hack, Torchwick died (there goes any and all of Adam's new toys too thanks to them stopping the Breach), the Wyvern was frozen, and Neo turned on Cinder. Plus, Vale itself still stands thanks to them and isn't covered in Grimm (Beacon itself is, but last we saw? The teachers and others of Beacon were working to drive them out and keep them out of Vale).
The Nucklevee was storming up and down Mistral's countryside for DECADES before Team RNJR finally killed it in V4 (it's the same massive Grimm that attacked Ren's village and attacked other places in the modern day too).
Raven Branwen appears to have had a change of heart, if the V9 epilogue animatic is anything to go by. That's a HUGE change from Bandit Leader, Darwinist, "Survival of the fittest" Raven from V4 and V5.
Haven and Mistral as a whole were saved thanks to our heroes and attitudes toward Faunus IN MISTRAL have BEGUN to shift thanks to saving the ENTIRE KINGDOM from Adam. Because you can BET he wasn't ever going to stop with just blowing up the school. It's similar to Naruto and Sasuke saving the entire world at the end of Naruto. Sasuke still served a year's worth of jailtime that should've been a life sentence but was pardoned thanks to Naruto and Kakashi swaying the various Kages, considering his actions helped SAVE THE ENTIRE WORLD and Naruto vouched for him. Change like that isn't going to happen overnight, but saving an entire kingdom from being either blown up or swallowed by literally negative emotion demons SHOULD count for something! If it doesn't, then what? Just leave them to die? Hardly a heroic thing or moral thing to do! Leverage it for change in the country, though, and then you've got something.
According to the novels, Vacuoans attitudes towards outsiders are shifting thanks to Team CVFY, SSSN, and others helping to get through to them and teaming up to save everyone from The Crown and the Grimm that followed. It's a SLOW process, but still.
When Qrow and Ozpin, the supposed leaders and most experienced people, gave up when things got tough? Team RWBY, with help from Maria, helped them back into fighting shape. It's here where Ruby herself takes command (thus breaking one BIG status quo element of Ozpin being the one in charge).
Caroline Cordovin being reminded that she serves the people was another, after a huge fight, otherwise the city of Argus would've been wiped out.
Getting very close to uniting Mantle and Atlas counts, because that broke the status quo of "Atlas above all else". Ironwood going full fascist doesn't negate that accomplishment or their efforts in pushing him mainly.
Investigating into and arresting Jacques. Pity they had no real time to celebrate it, but unseating the patriarch of the Schnee family and head of the SDC, getting him shoved in jail, and immediately thereafter trying to use their ships to evacuate people in Mantle? Those aren't nothing.
Trapping Watts and Tyrian. Those two seemed...untouchable until that point.
I'd say getting the message out there at all and shattering Salem's aura of secrecy is another good thing. If the massive crowd of ships and the memorial was anything to go by from V9's epilogue animatic, there are a lot of people that saw and followed Ruby's message to meet in Vacuo and unite to face their common threat. As I said earlier, it'll take a long time to truly address everything but getting people to see eye to eye AT ALL after DECADES of tension is sure to bear some fruit.
Upsetting the Red Prince and beating him? Helping Little become Somewhat and having them and Juniper as the Ever After's protectors? SAVING and helping Neo realize a few things that she needs to change about herself? Hell, even helping Jaune through his problems and the Paper Pleasers ascending into the Gems, the Cat being trounced, and helping people survive the ARMY of Neo Jaberwockers is a good thing.
Heck, if you'd like me to get a little into Salem's status quo's that they've broken? They blew her up, turned at least three people that she had in her clutches against her, destroyed one of the largest Grimm she had in her possession, and have generally been a thorn in her side since the beginning. Salem's faction is down from an entire network of spies, turncoats, and villains...to just. four. people thanks to our heroes.
Basically, what I'm saying is this: The changes to the Status Quo in RWBY's entire story doesn't hinge on just Salem's actions by proxy. Everyone has a hand in changing the way things are going.
To truly expect everything to be on our heroes' shoulders is...well, to quote Chloe Bourgeois from Miraculous Ladybug? Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous.
Will they have a more active role to play in coming events? Absolutely. But it's worth pointing out their actions have had effects. From something as small as helping Penny have friends and getting Weiss and Blake to get along, to starting the uniting of the entire world, I truly believe our heroes have had major impacts.
It just requires a larger perspective.

As the knower of all things Batman Comics - any chance you’d be willing to give a rough timeline of Jason coming back to Gotham and what he does? I know about all these events - the fight at Titan’s Tower, him confronting Batman with Joker, him shooting Dick, taking over Crime Alley - but I don’t know what order they happen I ?? Are there important things to his return timeline that aren’t in that list? I can’t figure out where to find the relevant comics (or even which comics are the relevant ones). :(
(Alright so I'm gonna base these on publication date and hope there wasn't too much time-wonkiness making it so that some events were before or after certain other events in spite of the dates and all that)
1. Jason returns to Gotham — It's unclear exactly when this happens, but I want to say it's roughly 4-4.5 years after his death.
2. Jason confronts Bruce and slices Tim's throat before "revealing" it was actually Clayface the entire time (no it wasn't) — Hush was published from Oct 2002 - Sept 2003, so the time between that and the 2004 Under the Hood storyline I assume to be anywhere from six months to a year. Comics are confusing.
Tumblr media
Batman #618
3. Stephanie Brown "dies" in War Games (Oct 2004 - Jan 2005).
Tumblr media
Batman #633
4. The Red Hood appears in Gotham — There is no official source for this, but we can assume that Jason has made at least a few appearances at Red Hood pre-Batman #635 while planning his takeover of the city and showdown with Batman.
* I should also mention that Dick is still recovering from a leg wound when the Under the Hood storyline begins, as well as recovering from the traumatic event of Tarantula killing Blockbuster, which is a big part of the reason why Dick is in Gotham at this time and around to help Bruce when the Red Hood surfaces. That, and the fact that War Games just took place and they lost Stephanie. Jason picked a really stressful time to start his Gotham takeover lmao.
5. Jason kicks Bruce out of his own company and takes control of all his toys lmao (Dec 29, 2004).
Tumblr media
Batman #635
6. Jason takes control of Gotham's gangs (Dec 29, 2004) — This is the first official appearance of the Red Hood that we see. This is the event that swiftly puts him in the spotlight as Gotham's newest and potentially most dangerous criminal. (This is also where all the "eight heads in a duffle bag" jokes come from.)
Tumblr media
Batman #635
7. Jason reveals that he is Red Hood (June 22, 2005) — Bruce finds out the Red Hood is Jason and is given the evidence to prove it. We can assume that the other Bats (Dick, Barbara, Tim, etc) are informed shortly after this encounter, if only for their own safety than Bruce's generous decision to keep them in the loop for once.
Tumblr media
Batman #641
8. Jason attacks Tim at Titans Tower (Nov 9, 2005) — Jason takes a brief break from fucking around in Gotham to go beat up his kid brother in ugly orange leggings. Then he returns to Gotham to mess with Bruce and Black Mask some more.
Tumblr media
Teen Titans (2003) #29
9. Bludhaven gets nuked (supposedly killing Dick at first, but we all know he's fine). — This particular comic showing the event was published on Jan 26, 2005, eight days after it was first shown in Infinite Crisis #4. This information doesn't really matter that much, but it makes me sound smart.
Tumblr media
Batman #649
10. The infamous Jason/Joker/Bruce showdown happens (Feb 22, 2006).
Tumblr media
Batman #650
11. Jason disappears, then resurfaces after a year or so to cosplay as his big brother (April 12, 2006) — Jason lies low for a long while after that final confrontation with Bruce until the One Year Later event has passed, skipping us forward a year in time. Dick returns to Bludhaven to find Jason having lost his marbles, acting as a murderous version of Nightwing and being a general nuisance to everyone <3
Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) #119

On the issue with James, I do think this is one area where the books aren’t ageless and have to be read in the context of an English school in the 70s written by an author in the 90s. Because by today’s standards, James is less of your garden variety ‘boys will be boys’ type bully and more of an actual sociopath well past the age of criminal responsibility who by 16 had committed one public sexual assault and was an accessory to attempted murder who backed out last second. But I don’t think that’s at all what Jo meant to convey.
Let me guess. Snape fan? :P
Look, my issue with this discourse has always been that only James seems to get so much flack for his most morally ambiguous actions. I mean, Hermione disfigured a girl her age with zits spelling "sneak" because she'd given the DA members out to Umbridge. Harry nearly gored Malfoy to death by using an unknown spell he knew was meant "for enemies". Yet, i've never seen anyone hating on James that would go as hard against these other characters.
On your first point: James wasn't an accessory to attempted murder who backed out last second. Sirius was the one who tricked Snape and nearly got him killed (which would have made Lupin an accessory to murder). James acted to stop it as soon as he realised what Sirius had done. His reasons for doing so remain obscure - Snape thinks he wanted to save his own skin because he would have been blamed alongside Sirius, but that's Snape's interpretation, not exactly the most unbiased source.
Next: i ressent people misusing the term "sexual assault" to describe what James does in Snape's worst memory (a take that, btw, i've only seen upheld as if it were common knowledge by Americans, or very "Americanised" fans). The definition of sexual assault is "unwanted sexual contact", and in the UK especially it pretty much means "rape without penetration". I do think Jo meant for it to be taken seriously (its parallel with the Muggles's treatment by Death Eaters in GoF is clear), only people didn't really at the time. Still. James humiliated Snape, i'd say what he did qualifies as sexual harrassment, and he's rightfully painted as the bad guy in that episode, but he didn't sexually assault Snape.
Also, because we only have that one scene to work with, everyone seems to forget the larger context, namely: Snape created that spell. Judging by the way Death Eaters were still using it 15+ years later, i imagine James wasn't the first nor the last in his generation to use it against another student. I always saw it as a bit analogous to those dangerous/humiliating games that suddenly become trendy with high schoolers until someone gets hurt enough for adults to intervene. I'm comforted in that interpretation by the fact that Snape implies James didn't even know HE was the one to invent the spell, suggesting it started as a thing Snape showed to other Slytherins to gain some social cred, which then spread to the whole school.
Anyways, if that makes James a sociopath, then Hogwarts must have been chock-full of them in the 70s, starting with Snape himself. Maybe the point isn't that Snape or James (or Sirius) are sociopaths, but that imminent war tends to turn people more prone to violence and less likely to abide by moral principles, or consider their designated enemies's humanity. I have no doubt that James morally justified himself and his actions by the fact that Snape belonged to the "bad crowd" of Voldemort's future recruits. Even though we readers know enough about Snape to be able to tell that he was never seriously convinced by Pure Blood superiority.

I think one of my pet peeves is when people trying to justify certain characters actions because “they were young!” “They didn’t know better!!” “They were in grief!” “They are misunderstood!” “They grow up in a harsh environment!”
While condemning Wei wuxian actions, like he wasn’t traumatized teenager and young adult himself when everything happened to him. When his first life was one tragedy after another; they try to condemn him because of things that aren’t supported by canon and in modern society standards; “he uses demonic cultivation!” “He a mass murder!” “He tortured Wen Chao harshly!” “He a war criminal!” “He didn’t know his place!” “He shouldn’t saved the wens!” “It his fault that LP fall!” “He the narrator of the story of course his POV is biased!”
And those are the takes I seen TODAY, and my lack of sleep isn’t helping me being less annoyed by them. Because those takes? Don’t make any sense if you look at the canon novel; especially the last one, every time I see the take that WWX is the narrator therefore he unreliable is making me want to scream.
WWX is the protagonist of the narrative but he isn’t the narrator, did we forget the existence of “omniscient 3rd person POV” or that we need everything to be narrated from the main character point of view?
I don’t get it, I really don’t get it.
I’ve said it once and twice and I’ll say it again: nobody’s life in that story is more valuable than Wei Wuxian’s, the Wen siblings, or any of the individual Wen remnants. Not a single person is more deserving of life over that group of people. Mianmian was a servant in a cultivation clan who had her life endangered while her peers save for three were too afraid to act, but she still stood up to the cultivation world in defense of Wei Wuxian. Wen Ning and Wen Qing were the children of Wen Ruohan’s favorite cousin, but both still committed treason against their could-not-be-more-evil-if-they-gave-him-a-villain-twirling-mustache uncle. Hell, I’m one of the people who believes that Jiang Yanli compromised her relationship with Wei Wuxian for the Jin, but she still spoke up for Wei Wuxian in multiple instances against people who looked down on them both. All of them did this because it was the right thing to do, just like Wei Wuxian protecting the Wen remnants was the right thing to do. And every person in this list did what they did under direct threat and lack of power compared to those who could easily retaliate.
So no, I do not actually give a fuck about people’s justifications for why their favs being genocidal assholes is acceptable and justifiable while ignoring the very real, overtly powerless characters who do so much more than any of the clan leaders or heirs (minus lwj) ever dared to do despite having been raised under and surviving the same circumstances. Plus, you’d think stans would actually want Wei Wuxian to be the narrator of the story, because he is so much nicer by miles about the fact that all of his peers and elders (outside of a number he can count on one hand without using all 5 fingers) gathered together to kill him. Stans should be damn grateful that wwx isn’t actually his rumored self.

I don’t know if you want to post this long explanation and train of thought, but thought it might be worth sending my thoughts.
I’m on gaylor twitter as much as I’m on Tumblr these days, and I watched the rise of the term LSK. Where it came from was after Taylor seemed to make it clear that Karlie betrayed her (post-folklore and through the release of ITTG and Closure, her explanation of MTR at long pond, and during the confirmation of Karlie’s first pregnancy,) kaylor as a fandom essentially died. 99% of people believed they broke up, and it was ugly. Kaylor was already on life support after the masters thing, but this period essentially killed it. Even those who were willing to consider they were still together stopped posting about it because there was no point and we got a lot of hate. It was seen as embarrassing to still believe they were together. Why would anyone want to participate in something that brings no joy? A few like you and 9wift stuck around, but I know that even you took a step back for a while.
But starting around early 2022, a few people started admitting out loud that there were a lot of clues that maybe they were together. Because the evidence for them having broken up was so strong, still very few people would entertain the idea that they never actually broke up. But it started to become clear enough that there was something going on. And eventually enough accounts on twitter who made good points (and do so in a funny, joyful way, unlike the toxicity of tumblr at the time) it became relatively popular, and more and more people became convinced. These people needed a term to separate themselves from “kaylors” who believed they never broke up, at the time were very small in numbers, and had a very bad reputation because of some personalities, particularly on tumblr. They chose Late Stage as their term. It probably was already a term used in other fandoms, but I’m not sure. In the past, we used to describe swiftgron in terms if versions (1.0, 2.0, etc) so I look at LSK as similar to this. They see LSK as a sort of kaylor 2.0. A post-breakup reconciliation.
As is the case with all other subgroups, there are various beliefs about how and when LSK happened, and some of them even go back and forth about maybe they never actually totally broke up. But even those still call themselves LSKs as a way to distinguish themselves as a new generation (who look at things differently.) One of the most obvious ways they look at things differently is they are less concerned with josh. They see him as Karlie’s gay bestie rather than calling him names and thinking he is the devil, both Karlie and Taylor hate him and he’s blackmailing them and he’s a war criminal. All that became canon on tumblr over the years (and also among the meaner parts of Gaylor twitter, much of which was born on tumblr and The Lchat and migrated to twitter.) Most LSKs don’t like josh as a person, but they don’t believe Karlie hates him. This allows them to approach kaylor with fun and joy rather than being miserable all the time like a lot of the old tumblr kaylors. I think a fair amount of this is that there is some separation at this stage from the trump presidency and some of the most controversial kushner stuff and they are young and often not Americans, so it is easier for them to not know or overlook this part of things. Also over time as joshlie continue to be married and have children and look happy together, it becomes harder to see disdain. Another part of this is that they don’t know the lore. There are some advantages to this. While they might not understand all the stuff we understand and sometimes they say incredibly dumb things, they also aren’t weighed down with the baggage that we have that is so hard to let go off. And they can look at things from different perspectives, which also can be hard for those of us who made decisions on how we feel about things years ago, and therefore developed biases that can cloud our thinking. Again, there are pros and cons and neither perspective is necessarily better. But I tend to lean toward a way for people to enjoy their experience in this fandom rather than giving in to misery and anger. I don’t understand why anyone would want to spend a lot of time on something that made them unhappy. I would simply find another hobby. So the fun of LSK on twitter is one of the reasons it gained traction and a lot of the obvious clues that have been thrown at us, especially over the last year, were caught and popularized. That’s not to say they don’t still get hate from gaylors (and swifties of course) who can’t see it, but there are enough LSKs now who support each other to cancel out some of that negativity.
Wow. Thank you for explaining it like that. This is mostly a very accurate account of things. I don’t think that term (lsk) is accurate for us in these parts but it’s interesting to hear how it came about. Personally, I think the twitter gaylors are cute, but theres a gap in beliefs in some cases for sure.
First, I think a lot of us here never felt from the songs that Karlie actually betrayed Taylor. That’s where a lot of the disconnect is. Songs deserve nuance and the situation is of course delicate. It’s obvious there have been some real hardships and tests and breaks as normal relationships have, but nothing absolutely permanent. Who knows the period of time when this all truly takes place. She may have put it out on folklore, but that doesn’t mean it was recent events. I think she dug deep/went back time for a lot of those songs. MTR for example screams Scott. I wont get into song analysis but if one wanted to apply it to Karlie sure, they could. I can see why others would come to the conclusion that they were done forever. But it’s never that simple. Maybe the point was to kill kaylor if you get what I’m trying to say.
The series of events that happened during this time were intense. There were splits in the fandom, weird, crazy and toxic rumors going around etc. To be honest, I’ve pushed a lot of this period of time back in my conscious because it was traumatic to say the least. The amount of hate and toxicity here completely changed the way I and others went about posting for sure. The threats, the hate, the gaslighting, the daily harassment… getting blamed for certain things I had nothing to do with. Yeah. I stepped back for a while and was terrified to say what I wanted. A few people caught on. Even saying this gives me anxiety. If it weren’t for few close mutuals it would have been much harder.
But still there was evidence even through quarantine that things were fact not over between them. And you’re right, it was not popular to say so at the time. It was kind of like walking around with a letter A or K on your chest… the Hester Prynne’s of the fandom if you will. So a lot of us took our thoughts underground, but were still around. There’s some delicate things I still rather not talk about, except for privately.
I think whatever people want to call themselves is fine… and that most of us have the same idea in mind as to how things may turn out. I get there’s varying opinions and thats fine too. There are bigger things to worry about as long as it’s respectful.
And tbh, my opinions on certain things have changed. Or at least how I’m willing to talk about it i.e. jk. I really don’t want to talk about him. Personally, ignoring him/making stupid silly comments about situations has done wonders for me. That does’t mean I like the dude. But to hold that much animosity continuously isn’t good for ones mental health. I don’t want to keep reliving one of the worst periods in history.
That said, we’ve all been through a lot. Like you mentioned, theres a lot of baggage. But for me, taking a different approach and making an effort to be both positive and realistic at the same time has really helped. It’s not being naive. It’s choosing what’s best for you. I don’t want to be that person spewing negativity all the time. I refuse to. I’m so thankful for the people here who choose to see the light through dark times. Sending an extra hug to everyone around 🤍

[TW: Mentions of murder, guilt, and psychological distress. Nothing ever goes into detail, but it is the main focus of discussion.]
I'm sick and tired of people in this fandom being like: "Aside from the comics, the Rise!turtles would willing commit murder and the other Turtle universes would be terrified!"
Like NO dude! ALL turtles in every tmnt ARE capable of murder! They all just have different reasonings and reactions to it.
(NOTE: This is NOT counting any Future AUs or headcannons that people have. Just pure observation from the shows and movies. All of it is just my personal opinion.)
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018)
Tumblr media
Their morality is a bit warped, and they are 100% capable of killing someone with little to no hesitation, BUT because of that, they haven't actually done it. In some ways, they're a bit scared of what they'll become afterward. They are one short push away from committing the deed, especially if it involves their family being in danger. If they did have to kill someone, they'd be the most affected by it psychologically.
Most likely: Donatello
Least likely: Raphael
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012)
Tumblr media
They've killed before, not because they wanted to but because they had to, to survive. They were brought into a war far too young and learned all the consequences that came with it. They always try to put it off as a last resort if they can, but the unfortunate part of it is that they've been pushed to that last resort far too many times to count. They probably feel the MOST guilty out of their deeds and it will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
Most likely: Raphael
Least likely: Michelangelo
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003)
Tumblr media
Just like their 2012 iterations, they've been exposed to death and violence FAR too young. But instead of growing guilt festering deep in their souls, they've just become completely numb to it. They know it's a necessity required to survive with the lives they live, know that its either yourself or the enemy. Hesitation leads to death, and guilt leads to madness, its not a healthy mindset, but it's kept them alive.
Most likely: Leonardo & Raphael
Least likely: Donatello
TMNT (2007) & TMNT Bayverse (2014-2016)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have killed before, and they will kill again. They feel absolutely NO guilt for it.
Most likely: Leonardo (2007) & Raphael (2014)
Least likely: Michelangelo (2007) & Donatello (2014)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) & Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2019)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There have been a few casualties in their line of work, but they aren’t to hung up about it. It's something they've accepted that was always bound to happen. The first time it happened was an accident, and it really did freak them out for a bit. The life of a ninja is dangerous and full of deadly enemies, accepting these inevitabilities helps protect the heart and mind from madness.
Most likely: Raphael (1990 & 2019)
Least likely: Michelangelo (1990) Donatello (2019)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987)
Tumblr media
They've killed people on accident, you know, as a silly goofy thing 🙃🫠🤪 (Don't look them in the eyes they can sense weakness)
Most likely: Donatello
Least likely: Leonardo
TMNT (Comics)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Have you honest-to-God seriously read these comics? These are not turtles, these are war criminals wanted throughout the Galaxy across time and space! If we were to put them in an arena to fight with their other iterations they would come out victorious. FULL STOP.
Most likely: Yes
Least likely: Just accept it and prey they aren’t feelings vengeful that day.

having cyno as your boyfriend is quite the bummer, having to always sleep alone while he scouts around the desert, searching for the latest wanted criminal, not to mention how hard it is to catch him in the morning as well! the only trace of his presence is the torn paper on the dining table
“Why did the sea sponge wake up early everyday?
To get the ‘moist’ out of everyday.
In case you didn’t understand— moist sounds like most. and sea sponges come from the ocean which makes it moist.
I’m quite sure I’ll be able to come back early for dinner, but if I don’t come, don’t wait up for me (that is if you aren’t gonna be busy practicing). I love you, dear
, Cyno”
it’s just surprising how cyno can come up with a new pun everyday. giggling at his note, you put it back on the table, before getting yourself ready and heading to the grand bazaar.
“mx. s/o, you’re here!” nilou spoke as she made her way towards you. “nilou! alright… are we going to continue our practice from where we stopped last night or from the start again?” you asked as you left your belongings with the prop masters. “oh! hmm.. let’s start from the top so that we don’t forget it” nilou concluded as she went into position.
the zubayr theater had been working on a performance honoring the late goddess of flowers, lesser lord kusanali’s dear friend from before the archon war. as the two main performers of the theater, the two of you were obviously the main choices to play them, nilou as lesser lord kusanali and you as the god(dess) of flowers.
practice had gone for hours into the night, both you and nilou dancing and acting with grace as co-performers, acting as other minor gods clapped and sang along to your dance of sabzeruz. even if it was acting, it hadn’t felt like it, the fun and cheer of your friends being as genuine as the beautiful purple hue of the padisarahs made by the crew.
from the floor, excited friends of the performers watched the practice; mr zubayr, inayah and her father, tighnari, and even cyno has snuck some time to get a sneak peak of your hard work!
it truly was wonderful. even though it was just a rehearsal, no costumes or backdrops, it already felt like he was back in time, thousands of years ago, spectating the birthday of buer; the way your legs spun you in circles, the way your hands flowed with the light spotlighting you, even the very way your hair cascaded and lightly followed your every spin and step took his breath away, as if the true god of flowers had resurrected and guided your body’s movements to create a breathtaking performance— actually not only him, the way your every move glided, kept the audience breathless, excited for the true performance tomorrow.
that is, until five men in akademiya uniform had found out about the performance. they stood beside the other people watching, almost all in their late twenties or early thirties, besides one being around the age of 46 or so. it seems they’re supporters of azar from during the experimentation “we’ve heard that your theater troupe is preparing a performance to honor lesser lord kusanali.” the ringleader said, his eyes glaring to meet every single person in the cast, his voice laced with mockery and judgement. “don’t you fools remember of how grand sage azar had banned performing arts? this is an illegal performance!” one of his goons yelled.
mr. zubayr has foreseen this and already stated his argument to the hecklers. “you idiot! do you seriously not remember the prohibition act?! it says— ‘all public performances in sumeru city are not allowed, guards are to immediately stop the performance and take them into custody.’” he recited word for word. he waited for mr. zubayr’s response before he had spotted cyno, pointing his finger at him “there! general mahamatra cyno knows every rule word for word! general, please shut this down right now.” the elder man kindly asked whilst smiling, thinking that he had won. “yes… you are right, although, i remember hearing from mr. sharif that intellectual performances were allowed, correct, sir?” he looked over to inayah’s father as he nodded in agreement.
“this performance is detailing the sabzeruz festival, the birthday of our archon— as well as the creation of the padisarah. history is intellectual in my opinion. in fact, isn’t the vahumana darshan dedicated to history and social sciences? which would mean that this performance could pass as intellectually-stimulating.” he sighed out.
“yes..! as the mahamatra said, the akademiya has its’ very own darshan for history, which is, in fact, what this play is about!” mr zubayr smugly agreed with cyno, he totally knew that, cyno just beat him to it y’know?
the scholars stood stunned, trying to find a new ground to argue with. “yes, well the act still stated that ALL public performances be banned. you can’t even say that it isn’t valid, because the acting grand sage hasn’t even thought to revoke that act!”
“that is true… why hasn’t alhaitham revoked that yet… anyways, none of the corps of thirty had actually seen it either since it was overridden by the information that the lesser lord had broken out of the sanctuary of surasthana, and it seems like they still don’t know even until the akasha had been turned off.” cyno replied, his patience running thin with how this know-it-all tried to debate with the general mahamatra, seriously… the five stood dumbfounded and embarrassed, the eldest’s face as red as fire. he whispered to the other four as they move back in the path to the akademiya, perhaps to find more rules to have the theater banned.
cyno pouted in annoyance as he walked towards the foot of the stage. “it’s already midnight, i think you all deserve a break, right? the zubayr theater works too hard…” he said as he shooed the members to grab and drink and go home. mr. zubayr tapped cyno by the shoulder. “mr. cyno, i’d like to thank you on behalf of the troupe… if it weren’t for your intervention, i fear those scholars would’ve stood corrected and try to close the theater like before…”
“sir, it wasn’t a problem, really…” his eyes downcast in thought. “the theater is a home to my friend and my partner, i’ve heard so many wonderful memories that happened here, it’d be a shame if all of that were to just go away.” he shrugged, cyno’s hands trying to grab you and bring you to the concrete “cyno, if i fall and get a head injury, i’m going to take away your casket of tombs” you jokingly threaten your boyfriend as he finally let go of your fingers, leaping down the stairs to meet him where he waited. mr. zubayr laughed at your childish threats with cyno. “even so, thank you, cyno for saving the theater” he nodded with gratefulness as he went to the stage to help contain the paper decorations in preparation for the performance tomorrow.
cyno intertwined his fingers with your’s before wrapping his arm around your waist to bring you closer as you started your walk home. “y’know, your dance was amazing awhile ago. i know you didn’t get to finish final rehearsal because of them… but it was still amazing, love. would you mind showing me the full dance it in all its’ glory later before we sleep?” he smirked as you laughed and shook your head no “my dear, i’m all danced out tonight, i can’t stand anymore!”
the oh-so scary general frowned in dismay “not even for me? after the note i wrote for you this morning too..?” he pouted satirically. “nope! if you wanna see it so bad, you have to buy a ticket~” you shrugged and grinned cheekily. cyno sighed sadily “shame… i would’ve danced with you tonight too.”

So I know everyone’s really excited for the return of Nagant, Gentle, & La Brave; especially for them acting as proof that villains can be redeemed and stuff.
But that parts never really been in question. We been knew. Since the first war at least, it’s been obvious the villains would get redeemed, and cops asking criminals for help in catching bigger criminals happens all the time. Heck, these guys are helping the same society they took umbrage with without that society having at all changed, they just think Deku’s real nice, so just being here honestly means little.
No the big thing in this chapter is Deku realizing, for the very first time, that Shigaraki was right about the state of things. ‘Cause as I said, Deku saving Tomura was never in question; what was in question was if he’d save the other Tenkos of the world? Or, in his aspirations of becoming the next All Might without thought to surpassing him, would he leave those Tenkos to fall through the cracks to become villains themselves until he met them in combat too? Maintaining the status quo that way is what his character archetype does half the time, and Deku’s been leaning worryingly far into that territory; but now he’s finally turning the other way, just a bit.
Tumblr media
We aren’t exactly out of the woods on this yet; it’s a far shot from “I’ve been ignoring what my opponents have been saying until now” to “My friends & I need to revamp the system to address the failings of the predecessors we’ve been glorifying on pedestals until now”. He, Shoto, & Uraraka, already known for above-average empathy, need to get a lot more empathetic still; and then either present a plan or start asking the people they’re fighting for help on that. (Do not ask Shoji for ideas.) So there’s work to be done still.
But this is the first actual step in the right direction it’s felt like we’ve had since “I want to save that crying child”.
