Title: Peace. (Ao3 link.) Fandom: Octopath Traveler 2. Pairing: Osvald/Partitio. Word Count: 658. Warnings: None.
Summary: Osvald ponders over something special.
There is a specific peace that comes after lovemaking that Osvald finds himself craving more than the act itself, at times — a peace he's begun to understand to be necessary for both of them as their journeys become more complicated. Partitio's little nickname of Wild Stallion is not simply hot air being blown around in the dust of his hometown; the man is a force to be reckoned with in a brawl just as much as he is between sheets — but something almost magical happens when the scholar helps him sort out all of that pent-up energy. Something, Osvald suspects, not a lot of people are even aware of as a possibility as far as Partitio Yellowil is concerned.
He settles down. Moreover, he actually falls silent.
Being very in-tune with his own body, Osvald inhales deep and exhales slowly as he focuses on leveling his heart rate back out — and if he stops and switches his attention he's able to feel where Partitio's is still hammering away where his chest is all but glued to the larger man's side. Still giddy and likely riding the high of endorphins, Partitio's scarred-up hand finds one of his so that he can more or less play with it as that peace overtakes them both like a spell that even the merchant is scared of disrupting. This ritual — this playing with his hands — is something that Partitio seems to delight in whenever he gets a chance … and over time, Osvald has found it endearing and even misses it when the merchant is out of reach.
Partitio's hands had done plenty of talking before this calm — but now they speak again in gentler motions. There is no shortage of love in the way that he presses his thumb to drag along Osvald's palm — savoring access to skin that is usually safely hidden away by gloves. Both of them wear them, and Osvald had been curious to find that Partitio's hide a number of scars — damage done from years with tools in his hands. On Frigit Isle there were days that Osvald's hands were so cold that he couldn't feel the pain of the work they did, but those hours exist now in sensitive spots that Partitio knows well and seeks often. Too many of their passionate exchanges begin with the merchant's lips on one of his scars — be it his hands or the few on his face from the muzzle he was trapped in for over five years — the tenderness causing such a swell of emotions in Osvald that the only proper way to communicate is through losing the lines where one begins and the other ends. Sometimes Osvald actually gets frustrated that it feels like his own means of expressing what Partitio means to him is not enough — but then … this happens where they lay together and find such peace that the merchant doesn't make a sound for long periods and that frustration flickers out. He understands, somehow, that Partitio adores these moments just like all the others. Maybe more. It's something he figures he might need to look into, more — something he needs to actively think about—
“ … where'd you run off to, partner?”
Partitio's voice breaks his thoughts. Somehow he does this — somehow, Partitio is able to tell when the motions of his own hand go from focused to idle, to an autopilot as his mind starts circling in on a problem. He can tell, without even seeing his face, that he's gotten deep in thought — and he knows when to drag him back.
“I'm here. I'm with you, still.”
Against his chest, Partitio smiles and continues to play with his hand — tentative for the most part until his fingers slow and eventually slip before falling still. Osvald stays present as his merchant nods off, enjoying the peace they share a little longer … knowing full well that the dawn will threaten it once again.

It's been a week since the release of the Octopath × Another Eden crossover! Here are my mini-reviews of their plots, which means spoilers for the crossover (none for the Octopath games as far as I could tell). I'll go in Octopath's (technically) chronological order so it'll be CotC, then OT, then OT 2.
I hope you enjoy!
tldr: It was nice :)
Future - Dressed in Fame (Tithi, Nicola + Suzette)
Can't believe they took two people from a fantasy renaissance era and made them a tiktok dancer and a video essayist youtuber.
Granted it was in a simulation to try and create an algorithm for harvesting fame but even after stopping that these two still wanted to actually become streamers/youtubers with their new friend.
A very fun story! Tithi and Nicola and Aldo being unfamiliar about about the modern times and video technology and things like that ends up with some silly moments where they just stop and ask "What does this even mean???".
Shout out to Nicola for being the "brains" of the group and also referencing her Thief job by stealthily stealing the cursed ring. Very cool.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Present - Some Small Power (Cyrus, Olberic, H'aanit + Shion)
My favorite! The final boss is also technically not the main villain himself but a poor animal he ends up controlling.
I really liked how this story incorporated Olberic and H'aanit. Olberic's stance on fighting to protect the peace and H'annit's on how nature must be respected but also cared for are well done and I liked it a lot! Cyrus is Cyrus, he's very silly and I love him. Shion didn't show up much but it was nice to see him when he did.
Also I like how it ties into the Octopath novel and minor lore a bit! It's just small bits like the year and Cyrus' dynamic with H'aanit as far as I could tell but it was lovely to see!
Also I really like this moment from the very beginning of this story:
Olberic: ...Did that person just appear out of thin air?
Cyrus: I'd say it was more like a distortion of some sort. That solves the mystery of how we came to be here, then.
H'aanit: It most certainly doth not!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Antiquity - The Sickness Wealth Brings (Partitio, Castti, Temenos + Shanie)
Partitio once again woke up and chose violence because of someone's abhorrent actions
And even after the boss battle, when the villain ends up with amnesia after loosing his cursed ring, Partitio goes "Great, you're back to normal! I'm still holding you accountable for all of this."
Nothing much to say here really. Solid story, solid characterization, Shanie and Castti's friendship was cute and I really liked Temenos here.
Tumblr media
Journey's End (Final Chapter)
They called a dungeon "Journey's End" and it has an abandoned train stop theme. Absolute peak.
Can't believe I encountered another character who played a false role for decades to hopefully save people from a tragic fate and couldn't reveal the truth. I'm bummed Odysso never got to see his sister again and that he passed away when his mission was complete, but at least he left his finished journal for his old friend and Aldo and was able to move on more-or-less peacefully. The toast Aldo and the friend made in Odysso's name also hurt my heart. Heartbreaking, bittersweet and a nice conclusion to the story.

air’s playing octopath traveler 2 and they’ve been telling me about a character who’s a prince that was betrayed by his brother and best friend and framed for the murder of his father and also there’s this blood curse. and a gal who’s an amnesiac who wakes up and figures out huh I might’ve been part of a wellness cult…? and I caught the tail end of the cowboy merchant who wants to end poverty by winning capitalism. and the one I just sat through just now. was a dancer who *~wants to be a star~* and had to save the town festival from a boar. I turned to air like “hey. what is octopath traveler.” and air was like “not this????”

Work today was also...a thing, so for now I'll destress by talking about my current interests to see if folks wanna talk about them! Gonna list them individually
Anime seasonals:
Vampire Dies in No Time: It's fun knowing the seiyuu for this. Some jokes are hit or miss (such is the fate of comedies), and I like when it touches on more heartfelt moments. Usually watch the newest episode during my lunch breaks on Mondays
Vinland Saga: God seeing Thorfinn's character development is fucking beautiful. Canute's slowly becoming one of my favorite characters.
Revenger: Originally got into this for Teppa (if you know, you know), and I like the seiyuu cast, but it's...boring, I think? Either that or I've watched too many anime to really get hyped for this kind of stuff. Not wacky or bloody enough to keep my interest, so it's just background noise for Thursday lunches
Urusei Yatsura: Same with Vampire. I would have this as my lunch break anime if HiDive had a pop out player/mini player/whatever it's called
Hero Academia: HOOOOOOOOO DARK ARC SO GOOOOOOOOOD.
Trigun Stampede: Love how expressive the 3D animation is, and some of the new elements surprised me. I still miss Millie, and wish we had more time to really explore character dynamics/world building
Nier Automata: "hm not sure how they'd cover all the endings-IS THAT REPLICANT"
To Your Eternity just ended its second season last week. I didn't cry like I did with the first season, but this arc had a nice conclusion. ...Rushed a bit with the "where are they now?" part, but eh
Then I'm currently going through Iruma during the lunch breaks where a seasonal anime doesn't air. Pretty charming so far. I tried getting back into watching '98 Trigun, but I lost my place and I don't feel like starting all the way from episode 1 again. If HiDive allowed it, I'd probably watch the rest of Big O or Moribito next. I thiiiink after Iruma I'll have to figure out what to watch next.
Games:
SO HELP ME I WILL GET THROUGH OCTOPATH 2-
Nah but for real, I always think I have enough time to play it on my Switch during my lunch break, but nope. Hour's too short I say. I just finished recruiting all 8 party members and I'm currently in the middle of Throne's chapter 2/intel digging. I like the spruced up mechanics like the day/night cycle, but god I wish we could change party members on the fly to make level grinding easier.
The game collecting spark rose again as I got reminded of the eShop closing on March 27th. I have a few titles I say I need for the sake of having them before it's too late, but eh, nothing so incredibly urgent that I gotta have it now (already got those games. Thanks 2020 Pikes for getting me into this hobby). I almost got 999 on DS, but I already have that on PS4 (I feel iffy getting the same game on different consoles unless it's like a remake for a game that's old) & I've already gotten some other games.
Paranormasight's really got me interested. I'm not really one for horror media, but I absolutely love the character designs
And then I've just been plushie collecting, too
so ye

Title: The Scholar and The Merchant Chapter 14: Chasing the Dawn
Fandom: Octopath Traveler 2
Pairing: Osvald/Partitio
Word count: 4831
Warnings: Post-Game spoilers
Fic Summary: “I forgot what love was a long time ago,” Osvald tells himself, and nothing would change that. That is, until a certain merchant dressed in yellow came into his life and slowly helped him to remember.
Chapter Summary: Partitio brings Osvald home to meet his Pops, and Osvald finally reunites with Elena. Neither quite knows how either of these events will play out, but what they do know is that no matter what happens, they will continue chasing the dawn together.
Partitio was all smiles when he and Osvald reached Oresrush, and he took in a deep breath of the warm, dry air. Being away for so long had made him miss the dusty streets and bustling markets of his hometown.
“Ah, home sweet home!” he said, tipping his hat as he gave Osvald’s hand a squeeze, “Bein’ back after my first trip ‘round the world really brings back memories.”
“I may not have grown up here,” Osvald said, a soft smile crossing his face as he nodded, “But I too have at least one fond memory of this place: This is where we first met.”
Partitio beamed as he leaned up to kiss Osvald’s cheek, coaxing a cute little chuckle from him. “Sure is! Who would’ve thought that we’d be comin’ back as lovers after all this time, eh?”
“Back then, it never would have crossed my mind…but against all odds, you managed to completely captivate me, heart and soul.” Partitio’s face flushed when Osvald lifted his hand to his face and placed a kiss onto the back of it.
“Darlin’...” Partitio smiled, reaching up to cup Osvald’s face. He studied his face for a moment, and he could really see how much Osvald had changed. His eyes were softer and brighter, not stuck anymore in a seemingly perpetual glare, fueled by his need for revenge. When he pressed their lips together, he felt Osvald smile as he kissed him, and Partitio counted himself lucky that he got to call this incredible man his.
When they parted, Partitio grabbed Osvald’s hand again and eagerly tugged him onwards, practically bouncing on his feet with giddy excitement. “C’mon, sweetheart! My pops lives just up this hill here. Oh, he’s just gonna love you!” Osvald laughed as he let Partitio lead him to the top, where a nice house stood overlooking the town.
Partitio shared a quick glance with Osvald, and he grinned as he flicked up the brim of his hat before pushing the door open and stepping inside.
“Pops! I’m home-Hoo boy! I see you two’ve made up already…”
Partitio sighed and shook his head, while Osvald’s eyes went wide as Papp and Roque parted from their rather…intimate embrace. Papp didn’t seem fazed by the interruption, and he let out a hearty laugh as he crossed the room, pulling Partitio into a bear hug. Meanwhile, a flustered, red-face Roque awkwardly cleared his throat, his eyes meeting Osvald’s briefly, before he busied himself with organizing some papers on the desk.
“It’s ‘bout time you came back home, Partitio!” Papa said, grinning ear-to-ear as he placed his hands on Partitio’s shoulders and gave him a once-over. “You haven’t changed one bit! Well…” Papp rubbed his chin with an eyebrow raised.
“You do look a bit more worldly…and is that a sparkle I see in your eyes?” Papp shot a knowing glance at Osvald, who adjusted his glasses, hoping to hide the dusting of pink that had appeared on his cheeks.
“Hehe, sure is, Pops! And here’s the reason for it!” Partitio beamed as he threw his arm around Osvald’s shoulders and tugged him to his side. “This is Osvald Vanstein, and he’s my sweetheart!” It was Papp’s eyes that sparkled this time, and Osvald held his hand out towards him.
“It’s good to meet you, sir-”
“Now, now, none of that ‘sir’ hogwash!” Papp laughed as he took Osvald’s hand and slapped his other hand onto Osvald’s shoulder. “Just call me Papp!”
“Um…” Osvald didn’t know how to respond to that, but he didn’t have the chance to, as Papp suddenly pulled him into a firm hug.
“Nice to meet you too, Osvald!” Papp pulled one hand away and placed it on Partitio’s shoulder, and he looked back and forth between the two. “To think that my little chickadee left the nest, and not only did he find a way to make all the people of Solestia happy, he found his own happiness too.”
Papp sniffed and rubbed his arm over his face. “Brings a tear to my eye, it does.” He pulled Partitio into another hug and cried, and Partitio pursed his lips as he tried to wiggle free. “My little chickadee’s all grown up!”
“Aw, c’mon Pops! You’re embarrassin’ me!” Osvald stifled a laugh at Partitio’s protests, and he turned when Roque huffed and crossed his arms over his chest.
“You’re being a bit dramatic, aren’t you, Papp?” he asked with an eyebrow raised, “Partitio’s been an adult for quite some time down.”
Papp pouted and shook his head. “C’mon Roque, this is my only son! And your stepson. You could show a bit more pride in ‘im.”
“There are ways to do so that don’t involve so much blubbering, dear.”
“Ouch, hun, that’s harsh…”
As Papp and Roque bantered back and forth, Osvald leaned over to whisper into Partitio’s ear:
“Roque is…your stepfather?”
“Haha, yep!” Partitio said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Osvald paled slightly and narrowed his eyes, his voice dropping to a whisper.
“Why didn’t you mention that before? I threatened him.”
Partitio shrugged and crossed his arms over his chest. “Well, at the time I didn’t know he and Pops were gonna get back together, so it didn’t seem like an important thing to share. Besides…” he said, a sly grin crossing his face, “Would knowing that really have stopped you?”
“...Hmp.” Osvald sighed, shaking his head as Partitio laughed, and he looked up when Roque cleared his throat.
“Ahem, anyway, since you are here, Partitio, would you care to look at some of these proposals with me?”
“Sure thing!” Partitio headed over to the table with Roque, and he cast a fond glance back at Osvald before the pair dove into a stack of papers.
“Osvald?” He turned towards Papp, who gestured towards the door with a jerk of his head. “Walk with me.”
Osvald nodded in response, and he followed Papp out the door and to the edge of the hill that overlooked the town. They stood in silence for a bit, and Osvald took the time to really take in the view from here. Partitio had really helped to build Oresrush from the ground up? He couldn’t help but feel immensely proud of him for that.
“So,” Papp said, finally breaking the silence, and Osvald turned to find him smiling at him, “I honestly didn’t expect my son to bring a man home with him, but I’d like to get to know ya a bit. What’d you do for a living?”
“I was…well, am, a scholar.” Osvald’s gaze fell to the ground, and he crossed his arms over his chest. “I was researching a particular type of magic five years ago, but that changed when…I was framed for the murder of my wife and daughter.” Osvald looked back at Papp, whose eyes were wide, but they softened and he took one of Osvald’s hands.
“I’m sorry to hear that, Osvald.” Osvald’s chest tightened at the kindness that he saw in Papp’s eyes; they were so similar to Partitio’s. Before he could stop himself, Osvald had started spilling his story to Papp, beginning with his horrible stint on Frigit Isle. He spoke for quite some time, and Papp silently listened to every single word. His chest tightened and a few tears fell down his face when he spoke of what had transpired in Montwise, but he had wiped them away by the time that he finished his tale.
“...And now I’m going back to reunite with my daughter, to see if her memories of me have returned.” Osvald worried his bottom lip between his teeth, and his eyes widened when he felt a hand drop onto his shoulder.
“Osvald…Hoo-boy, you sure have been through hell and back,” Papp said, a small smile crossing his face as he gave Osvald’s shoulder a squeeze, “I truly am sorry about your wife, but I’m mighty glad you were able to save your daughter.”
“...Me too.” Osvald took in a deep breath, letting it out slowly as he tugged at his beard. “It was difficult at times…but Partitio was a source of comfort for me, even before I knew that what I felt for him was love.”
Osvald smiled, a warmth blossoming in his chest as he thought of those moments when Partitio had picked him back up and kept him moving forward. “I truly think that I could not have achieved what I did without him by my side.”
Papp chuckled and shook his head. “That sounds like my boy. Always did have a habit of jumpin’ in to help those in need, no questions asked. Makes me proud to call him my son.”
“You did well raising him.”
“It was…hard, I’ll admit,” Papp said, the smile falling from his face, “We lost his mom to sickness when he was just a little chickadee. It was hard to keep myself going some days, even though I knew that I had to, for his sake.”
“And…I had someone by my side to help me through the hardest moments, too.” Papp smiled again as he glanced over his shoulder at the house. “Roque…really was, well, my rock. He kept me grounded, held me when I cried, and always reminded me that I wasn’t alone. Might be why it was so easy to fall in love with him.”
Papp sighed and shook his head. “I won’t lie; It broke my heart when Roque left me, and this town. And when I found out how he swindled us…well, I was angrier than a wet settin’ hen, let me tell ya.”
“When he came back, it caused a mighty conflict in my heart. I should hate him, after all he’s gone and done, but…I can’t. I still love him with all of my heart.” He turned to Osvald and smiled. “Love is a much more powerful force than hate, I reckon.”
Osvald smiled back, and he placed a hand over his heart as he nodded. “I agree. Revenge consumed me for so long, but it turns out that love was the answer that I was looking for all along.”
Papp laughed and slapped a hand to Osvald’s back. “I like you, Osvald. My son brought home a really upstanding man, and I couldn’t be happier for you both.”
“...Thank you, Papp. I don’t think I deserve someone as compassionate as Partitio, but I will love him regardless and strive to always make him happy.”
“Aw now, no need to sell yourself short like that!” Papp said, chuckling as he shook his head. “But I’ll hold you to that last part.” He wrapped his arms around Osvald and pulled him into a tight hug, and Osvald smiled as he reciprocated it. He could see where Partitio had gotten his kind and selfless personality from, and he was certainly looking forward to getting to know Papp more in the future.
“Shucks, lookit you two! Gettin’ along like two peas in a pod. Yer gonna bring a tear to my eye this time!” Osvald smiled when Partitio walked up to them, with Roque in tow, and Papp barked out a laugh.
“Of course we get along! You brought home a real winner, chickadee!” Papp slapped a friendly hand against Osvald’s back a few times, causing him to blush and clear his throat.
“Hehe, he really is a big ol’ sweetheart under all those big muscles!” Partitio beamed as he wrapped his arms around one of Osvald’s, and he laughed when Osvald’s face flushed an even deeper shade of red.
“Ah, before I forget…” Osvald quickly changed the subject and turned to Roque, adjusting his glasses. “Roque, I apologize for threatening you, back on Roque Island…and for, ahem, literally dragging you through the streets. That was…uncouth of me.”
“Oh, that, well…” Roque mumbled, tugging at his collar and averting his gaze, “It’s quite alright. It’s not like I didn’t deserve it, after all.”
“Hehe, you’re lucky I was there to reign him in, Roque,” Partitio said with a wink, “‘Cause he was ready to burn you to a crisp, I tell you what!” Roque’s face blanched, while Papp whistled and let out a nervous chuckle.
“Huh, never would’ve guessed that a scholarly type like you would have such a…violent streak,” he said, and Osvald snorted as he crossed his arms over his chest.
“...Five years in prison will do that to a man,” Osvald said in the most deadpan tone possible, and after a few moments of silence ticked by, all four men burst out laughing.
“Well, shoot, I reckon all that paperwork made me mighty thirsty,” Partitio said, grinning as he flicked up the brim of his hat with his finger, “Whaddya say we all hit the tavern? My treat!”
“Hoo-eey, I like the sound of that! Hun?” Papp smiled as he took Roque’s hand, and he returned Papp’s smile and nodded.
“That sounds like a fine idea to me.”
“Yeehaw! Let’s go!”
Osvald chuckled and made to follow Papp and Roque, but Partitio grabbed his hand to stop him, and Osvald blushed when he leaned up to place a kiss on his cheek.
“So, what’d you and my pops talk about, darlin’? You two seemed to be having a moment,” Partitio asked, and Osvald smiled as he gave his hand a squeeze.
“A lot of things, my dear. I can see where you got your kindness and positivity from.”
Partitio beamed at him and nodded. “Hehe, you ain’t wrong! Pops really taught me how precious life is, and I guess that’s why I’m so hellbent on making as many people happy as possible!”
“I see,” Osvald said, a fond look appearing in his eyes as he pressed his forehead against Partitio’s, “You’ve certainly made me incredibly happy, so I think that goal of yours is very attainable.”
“Aw, Osvald…” Partitio pressed his lips to Osvald’s and giggled between soft kisses. After all the hell that Osvald had been through in life, Partitio was so thankful that he had made such an impact on him, and he would always continue to strive to make Osvald the happiest man in the world.
“Hey, lovebirds! Get a move on, or we’ll drink the tavern dry before ya get there!”
Partitio laughed when he pulled away from a red-faced Osvald, and he waved a nonchalant hand at Papp, who was doubled over laughing, and even Roque was trying to hide his chuckling behind his fist.
“C’mon Pops! You and Roque can’t have all the fun, you know,” Partitio teased, and Papp playfully cuffed him upside the head when he and Osvald caught up. With that, the four men resumed their trek to the tavern, where they spent the afternoon enjoying each other’s company. Osvald was grateful for this day filled with happy reunions, positive first impressions, and genuine mirth, for it took his mind off of his next goal: reuniting with Elena.
---
“I can’t do this.”
“Sure you can!”
A pale-faced Osvald stood outside the door to Clarissa’s home, and he swallowed thickly as sweat began to bead at the back of his neck. He had managed to maintain his composure during their journey to Conning Creek, but now that he was here…Osvald had never been more nervous about anything in his life.
“What if…she rejects me?” Osvald’s voice dropped to a whisper, and he stared at the ground, tears pricking at the corners of his eyes. It had broken him, when Elena had run to Harvey instead of her back in Montwise, and if something like that happened again…
“Hey, Osvald.” He looked back up when Partitio’s took his hands in his, and the softness in his gaze gave Osvald pause. “I can’t tell ya what will happen when we go in there, but what I can tell you is this: You’re not alone. I’ll be right here by your side, whatever happens.”
“Partitio…” Osvald clenched his jaw and let himself be pulled into Partitio’s warm, comforting embrace. As Partitio gently rubbed his back, Osvald let out a long sigh, and he could practically feel the anxiety leaving his body. Yes, he had nothing to worry about, because with Partitio by his side, he felt like he could achieve everything he set his mind to.
When he pulled away, Osvald closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, letting it out slowly. “Thank you, Partitio. I’m…as ready as I’ll ever be.”
“That’s the spirit!” Partitio beamed and took his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. “It’ll be okay, Osvald. I’ll be right here the entire time.”
Osvald nodded and turned towards the door, lifting a slightly shaking hand and giving it a firm knock. After a few moments, Clarissa opened the door, and she offered a soft smile to the two men before her.
“Welcome home, Osvald…and Partitio.” She cast a knowing glance to their entwined hands, and Partitio let out a chuckle and rubbed at the back of his head, while Osvald cleared his throat and somehow managed to speak over the roaring of his heartbeat in his ears.
“Thank you, Clarissa. Is…Elena here?”
“Yes, she’s upstairs, studying her heart out.” Clarissa shook her head and sighed. “She really does take after you, a little too much, in my opinion. I have to constantly remind her to eat and sleep.”
“Hehe, like father, like daughter, eh Osvald?” Partitio said, rubbing at the back of Osvald’s hand when he saw the dark, uncertain look on his face. “It’ll be fine.”
“...Right.” Osvald bit his lip as he followed Clarissa inside, and Partitio stuck right to his side.
“Elena!” Clarissa called up the stairs, “There’s someone here to see you!” Time seemed to slow to a crawl for Osvald as his heart hammered hard in his chest, and he felt Partitio give his sweaty hand a comforting squeeze. His breath caught in his throat when he heard light footsteps coming down the stairs, and tears welled up in his eyes when Elena stopped at the bottom.
“Lady Clarissa? Who is it-” Elena started, but she froze when her eyes locked with Osvald’s. It was the longest ten seconds of his life, and the tears he tried to hole back fell down his face when Elena gasped and brought her hands to her face.
“Are you…my P-Papa?” The hopeful tone in her quiet voice caused Osvald to cry harder, and he barely noticed when Partitio plucked his foggy glasses from his face.
“Y-Yes, Elena, I am-”
“Papa!”
Osvald had barely gotten the words out before Elena yelled her response, and she sprinted across the room and threw herself into his arms. Osvald gathered her into a tight embrace as he sobbed, and his legs gave out under him and he fell to his knees.
“Oh, Elena, m-my dear…I’m s-so sorry for leaving you…”
“Papa, Papa…” Elena cried as she clung to Osvald’s shirt, and Osvald didn’t know what to do besides cry along with her.
Partitio rubbed his arm over his face, trying and failing to contain his own tears. He was so happy for Osvald, so much so that he thought that his heart was going to burst from his chest. Seeing the man that he loved finally hugging his daughter after all this time, it really was a beautiful sight to behold.
“Partitio, come.”
Partitio let out a startled yelp when he was suddenly tugged hard all the way out the door, and before he could voice his protests, he found himself wrapped up in a tight hug by Clarissa.
“Thank you, Partitio, thank you,” Clarissa said, smiling with tear-stained cheeks, “For keeping your promise. I can never repay you for that kindness.”
“Aw, shucks, you don’t need to repay me, Lady Clarissa.” Partitio grinned as he flicked up the brim of his hat. “I’d do it a thousand times over if I had to!”
Clarissa chuckled and raised an eyebrow. “Oh, I don’t doubt it. Although…don’t you think that falling in love with him took it a bit too far?”
“Hehe, well,” Partitio blushed as he rubbed at the back of his neck, “I really couldn’t help that part. Osvald…He really is the most incredible man that I’ve ever met.”
“I am very happy to hear you say that.” Clarissa pulled him into another hug. “I must also thank you, then, for loving him, and helping him to remember what love is.”
Partitio hugged her back, a bubbly warmth flooding his chest. He had been more than happy to help Osvald with that, to help him see that he was loved by so many people, and had so much love to give. All it took was pushing back against that raging wildfire of revenge, and Partitio had never had any doubts that Osvald would learn how to love again.
Partitio and Clarissa sat on the front steps for a while, with Partitio regaling her with stories of his adventures with Osvald and their six other companions, until the door suddenly opened behind them.
Partitio turned with a smile on his face to see Osvald standing in the doorway, with Elena next to him, her hand gripping his tightly.
“Ah, sorry that you had to leave your own home, Clarissa,” Osvald said, clearing his throat as a light blush covered his cheeks.
Clarissa stood up and shook her head. “It’s no trouble at all. I wanted to give you two some space, and Partitio’s sobbing was getting rather loud and distracting.” Osvald laughed along with her, and Partitio jaw dropped as he looked between them.
“Hey now! There ain’t nothin’ wrong with gettin’ emotional at a scene like that!”
“I’m just teasing you.”
Partitio couldn’t keep a straight face anymore and ended up laughing along with her. Osvald cleared his throat, and Partitio looked up to see Elena starting at him curiously.
“Elena, this is Partitio, the man that I was telling you about,” he said, and Elena nodded, a small smile crossing her face. She let go of Osvald and walked up to Partitio, whose eyes widened with shock when she hugged him.
“Papa said that you helped him save me. Thank you, Mr. Partitio.” Elena smiled up at him, and that was enough to make him start crying again.
“Aw shucks, you don’t need to thank me!” Partitio said as he knelt down so that he could hug her back, “I was happy to help you and your Papa, chickadee.”
“Chickadee?” Elena tilted her head curiously at him, and Partitio let out a chuckle and ruffled her hair.
“That’s what my pops called me when I was a youngin’. Well…he still calls me that.” Osvald chuckled and Partitio flicked up the brim of his hat. “But I’ll only call you that if you like it, Elena.”
“Um, I do like it,” Elena giggled, and Partitio beamed as he fished around in his vest pocket.
“Glad to hear it, chickadee! And I’ve got something for you,” Partitio said, pulling out a silver coin. Elena’s wide eyes were fixed upon the coin, and Partitio chuckled as he placed it in her hand.
“Here you go! That’s a genuine piece of silver, mined from my very own hometown!”
“Wow! It’s so shiny!” Elena examined the coin closely, her eyes sparkling with wonder. “Thanks!”
“Don’t mention it, chickadee.” Partitio stood up and shared a glance with Osvald, who was looking at him with eyes filled with absolute adoration, which made Partitio’s cheeks heat up.
“Why don’t we go inside and have dinner?” Clarissa chimed in, “It’s getting rather chilly out, and I have a nice, warm stew on the stove that should be done cooking by now.”
“A fine idea,” Osvald said, and Elena eagerly followed Clarissa inside. Partitio lingered in the doorway with Osvald, who pulled him into a tight hug.
“Thank you, Partitio,” Osvald said, and Partitio gently rubbed his back when he let out a shaky sigh, “That went…much better than I could have ever expected.”
“I’m so happy for you, darlin’.” Partitio placed a tender kiss on his lips before placing Osvald’s glasses back on his face. “Elena is lucky to have such an incredible papa in her life.”
“And I am lucky to have you in my life, my love.” Osvald’s voice dropped to a whisper, and Partitio’s heart swelled with happiness when Osvald’s forehead pressed against his and he cupped his cheeks. “When we first met, I recall that you said that Lady Luck had been shining down on you. However, I think she might have been shining down on both of us that day, even if I didn’t realize it then.”
“Osvald…” Partitio smiled as he gave him a quick peck on the lips, “There you go, bein’ all cheesy again.” He laughed when Osvald pouted and gave him a playful swat on the arm. “But, can’t say I don’t like it. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Honestly you two…Your dinner is getting cold while you’re busy canoodling out there!”
Partitio’s face burned with embarrassment as he looked over to see Clarissa leaning out of the kitchen window with an eyebrow raised and a cheeky smile on her face. Osvald cleared his throat, his face as red as Partitio’s felt, and they quickly made their way inside, hand-in-hand, and enjoyed a nice dinner as a family.
The next day, it was still dark when Partitio awoke, and he was surprised to find himself alone in the bed. He had a feeling that he knew where Osvald had wandered off to, so he quickly dressed and made his way to the beach.
Sure enough, Osvald was standing on the sand, looking out onto the slowly brightening horizon. Partitio was hit by a wave of nostalgia, and he smiled as he moved to stand next to Osvald.
“Mornin’, sweetheart.”
“Morning.”
Osvald turned to Partitio and took his hands in his. “Thank you again, Partitio. Elena…She doesn’t remember everything about me, but thanks to your support, I was able to take that very important first step to mending our relationship.”
“Aw shoot, I’d do it again in a heartbeat,” Partitio said, “Er, does she know about our relationship?”
Osvald chuckled and shook his head. “I did not officially tell her, but she is a sharp and intelligent girl. It would not surprise me if she figured it out on her own.”
“Ah, well, I wouldn’t be opposed to waiting to tell her about us.” Partitio worried his bottom lip between his teeth. “I don’t want her to think that I’m replacing her mom or anything…Especially since it hasn’t been all that long since we saved her from Harvey…”
“Hmm…” Osvald hummed as he tugged at his beard. “You make a fair point. I will make sure to discuss things with her at a gentle pace.”
Partitio nodded and shrugged. “I reckon you’ll have plenty of time to do so. I’ve gotta get back to Clockbank soon and see to the plans for the steam engine. I admit, just the thought of being apart makes my heart hurt.” Partitio pouted as he wrapped his arms around Osvald and rest his head against his chest.
Osvald chuckled as he pulled Partitio close and placed a kiss on his forehead. “Yes, it will be hard to be apart after being by your side for so long. However…” Partitio looked Osvald in the eye as he gently brushed a few loose strands of hair out of his face, “I know in my heart that you will always return to me, my love.”
“Hehe, you’re damn right about that!” Partitio beamed when Osvald burst out laughing, and Partitio tapped his chin thoughtfully. “Hmm, if you’re open to the idea of moving, maybe I’ll check out some vacant houses in Clockbank, for future reference?”
“You might be getting a bit ahead of yourself again, dearest.”
“Er, right, sorry…” Partitio let out a nervous chuckle and tipped his hat. Osvald chuckled and cupped his cheek, waiting to speak until Partitio’s eyes were locked with his:
“Whatever awaits us, know that I will always chase the dawn as long as you are with me, Partitio.”
Partitio smiled up at him, his arms snaking around Osvald’s neck, pulling him closer so that their foreheads touched. “And I’ll do the same, Osvald. We’ve got a hell of a journey ahead of us…The journey through life.”
“Well said.” Osvald nuzzled his nose against Partitio’s, and the love and affection that he saw in those bright blue eyes gave him pause. “I love you, Partitio.”
“I love you too, Osvald.”
As their lips met in a tender, passionate kiss, the sun rose over the horizon, bathing them in the brilliant light of the rising dawn. Osvald knew that they had a long road ahead of them, but as long as he had Partitio’s love to spur him forth, he would have no qualms with chasing the dawn again, and again, and again, until the end of his days.

When you get this, please respond with five things that make you happy. Then send to the last ten people in your notification anonymously. You never know who might benefit from spreading positivity!
A wholesome Anon! Thank you!
Art stores! Okay that may be a bit cliche for an artist but just going into any art store and walking through all the displays fills me with so much creative spark like "Ooh, I could use this or that to create something!" Of course that doesn't end well with my wallet hehe xD; I often joke that when stressed I need to go out and touch paper in the art stores lol Need instant pick me up? Just go to an art store! Curious what ideal date will be for me? Bring me to an art store. The answer is always - the art store.
Music, sketchbook, solitude Okay this feels like 3 things but it is the combination of them that does the magic! I need alone time to unwind and be with myself and my art - not online or available and if I don't get enough of that I get super cranky. Lately I just close every messenger possible, mute my phone, or right out turn the internet off, cause at this day and age it's nearly impossible to have a moment of peace regardless of what status you put.
The Sea! I'm fortunate to live by the sea and I love it so much. I love staring at it, I love swimming, I love water, I love sea shells, I love pirates, I love sea adventure stories - anything and all sea related sparks joy! Probably good place to mention that I get easily sea sick xD;; which absolutely does not spark joy!
Switch, soft blanket, warm coffee Okay again it's three things but it's the combination! Going out and being social is good and all but have you ever snuggled in a cozy couch wrapped yourself in the softest blanket, booted a favorite game and sipped the creamiest coffee? Pure bliss... You all are going to some gathering? Good for you. Now let me play Octopath 2 in peace lol
Walking home from work at dusk Okay this is also super specific xD; I love walking and I'm fortunate that my city is fairly green. I love zoning out during my walk to work and back. On mornings I get this refreshing movement, some good podcast but it's on my way back that does the magic to me. I love the air at dusk, everyone closing stores and heading home, the sun has bathed everything in golden hues, the farmers markets smell of any and all foods as everyone is preparing to close for the day - everyone is going home and I too am going home. Something about this time just fills me with wholesomeness.

gamer year in review ig
here are MY game awards..
best game i played: mother 3.. solid gameplay, amazing music and writing (THE best fan translation ive played), and even though i already knew the whole plot i cried like 3 times. one of my favourite games ever now, probably. go play it geez.
best game from this year: i only played maybe 3 new games and they were all good. so go play kirby forgotten land, live a live switch remake, and the new ratchet and clank. all were a big hoot.
games that are still dope even after 14 replays: sonic adventure, kirby's epic yarn and rtdl and 64, sonic mania, octopath
music: best ost from this year was kirby, but some great osts i heard for the first time this year include earthbound n mother 3, sonic cd jp, sonic 3 n knuckles, and i thought ff8's was pre good. thumbs up.
best songs: eyes on me ff8, northeast frost street kirby, the whole sonic cd jp ost, and the subgame medley from the kirby 30th festival but only the checkerboard chase part.that wassooo crazy
games that i thought were lame :( : embarrassing edgy fan translation of snes tales of phantasia (i mean i didn't like it that much anyway but wowww). also ff8 has problems. i think i like it more in hindsight cause there were a few scenes i really liked but the gameplay was a slog and i was annoyed a lot. :(
award for cutest little tiny little snes game: soul blazer, illusion of gaia, terranigma. how quaint :) had much fun.
award for best mod: sonic 3 air. best way to play sonic 3, so many options.... wowwww sonic 3 is great btw go play it
games i will play next year hopefully: more ff14, sonic frontiers, theatrhythm ff, octopath 2 (WOOO LET'S GOO GOTY 2023 octopath 2 sweeeeeep!!!i'm very excited if you havn't noticed), more snes/ps1 rpgs would be neat to i think.
conclusion: video games!!!!!!

My thoughts of Nintendo Direct March
Well, since Nintendo Direct was already shown, il give my quick thoughts of upcoming games. (even though i haven't doing my thoughts of ND... ^^;) 3DS WarioWare Gold: Its nice to bring it back. Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers: Um... Yeah, i think il skip it, cause im not a huge fan of it. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey: Not a huge fan of Mario RPG thing... ^^; Detective Pikachu + amiibo: Looks like promising Luigi's Mansion: I haven't play the Gamecube one, but maybe il give a shot on 3DS, and hope i don't screw up at Luigi... Switch Kirby Star Allies: Ohh... Lets hope @SenshinoSarah will buy this game. Okami HD: Though its not as popular when it was released, but maybe thye'll give a shot on Switch with HD Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido: Not really sure... Octopath Traveler: Not sure either... Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes: Woowee! Looks like Gabe or my friend Samuel could enjoy the third installment of "No More Heroes". Dark Souls Remastered + amiibo: Oh boy... That, will be a F***ing nightmare for it. Don't give me wrong, it is a great game, but not for the difficulty... ^^; Mario Tennis Aces: Not a huge fan of Mario Tennis, but lets hope it will be playable than the Wii U version. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker: Thats cool, but i think it sorta like Mario Odyssey to going in real world, but with Capt Toad. Undertale: Geeeet Switch oon!! (I always wanna do that. ;)) Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy: ...   I lost my words, Sony...  sony game on Nintendo?!?!        Well, you know what they say, if you can't beat Nintendo, join them. Little Nightmares: Complete Edition: Looks promising, but yet disturbing. South Park: The Fractured But Whole: Its an ok pick for Switch, but they should've bring "Stick of Truth", because it has a great reputation for gamers and fans of South Park, but the sequel is not as perfect than before. (Either that or the first one is too offensive for Switch... ^^;) Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition: Looks interesting, nothing much to say. ARMS Online Open/TestPunch: Thats sounds pretty good, but i haven't buy it for my curiosity. Splatoon 2 3.0 and Octo Expansion DLC: Yeah, it will be a ok suits, cool looking background for-- Huh, Rank X and Callie is here?! Holy crap! This is gonna be good, even though they should've put Callie there earlier when it was released last year-- Oh my lord...  That will be great!! We're finally able to play Octoling!   For the DLC... ^^; Finale: Ok, its gonna be like remastered for the first Splatoon for-- Hm? Dark, there's something---   Whaaaat???    Inklings for Smash Bros in 2018???   Oh... My...  F***ing... God...      I lost my words...     That, was a Greatest way to end like this!! :D  (Even though i was expecting to be 2019, because of the choice of characters and stage from the series of Nintendo and other companies of license) Overall: Well, it was good. It started average (With some good one that i like to see from the start) the middle parts are average that i may skip, but the last parts is amazing for our anticipation with Switch. Which some obvious fans will be like for Smash Bros; Fan: Well, this is gonna be like a remastered of the first Splatoon. *Upcoming Smash Bros* Fan: *throws money in the air* Take my money, cause you made the fans going crazy with anticipation. Like i said, it started average, but the last parts is a best one.

Gore’s Games of 2018
Tumblr media
I’m sure you all know the drill at this point. Everyone and their mother seems to post a list about all of their favorites from the year, so I’ll spare you the build up and just get into some of the games I enjoyed in 2018.
Tumblr media
Games Crossed Off the Backlog
This year I’m going to kick things off with some of the great games I finally got around to playing from my backlog. A good amount of these games are ones that I mentioned last year as ones I wasn’t able get to. All of these games were great and a couple would have easily made my Game of the Year list under normal circumstances.
Horizon Zero Dawn | Injustice 2 | Kirby: Planet Robobot | Slay the Spire | Super Mario Odyssey | Titanfall 2 | Uncharted: The Lost Legacy | Wolfenstein: The New Order
Tumblr media
2018 Games I Missed Out On
Next up, I’m going to highlight the games from 2018 that ended up on my backlog or that I still haven’t purchased yet. These are all games that I’d love to play at some point, and this is the reason why you won’t see them on my main list.
Below | Call of Cthulhu | Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker | Detective Pikachu | FAR: Lone Sails | Gris | Katamari Damacy Reroll | Mega Man 11 | Moonlighter Spider-Man |Spyro: Reignited Trilogy | Tetris Effect | We Happy Few
Tumblr media
Honorable Mentions
This final section (before I get to my actual picks) highlights some of the games I played and enjoyed but not enough to feel comfortable writing about them or including them on my GOTY list. I look forward to digging into all of these more in the coming months.
Celeste | Dead Cells | Into the Breach | Super Smash Bros. Ultimate | Yoku’s Island Express
Top 5 Games of 2018

NBA 2K Playgrounds 2
I’m going to kick this off with a game that I can’t imagine will be anywhere near most people’s game of the year lists. NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 continues to be a divisive game due to its microtransactions and player unlock system, but at its core, it really is a fun arcade-style basketball game.
The gameplay harkens back to the NBA JAM games and it’s over the top and kind of absurd at times. With every game played, you’ll be leveling up players and earning currency that will allow you to unlock new players. So while the game does offer microtransactions, they aren’t necessary if you’re okay with a bit of a grind. It’s not exactly ideal, but that kind of gameplay is right up my alley. I feel like I’m making progress each time I play and it ensures I will keep coming back for more. If you’re an NBA fan and know what you’re getting into, there is a lot of fun to be had here.
Tumblr media
Magic: The Gathering Arena
Arena was actually first available to play in 2017, but only entered into its open beta phase in 2018, so for that reason, it makes my list. Hell, when it officially releases it will probably make a future GOTY list again.
I was very skeptical about Arena because it looked like Wizards of the Coast was just trying to ripoff Hearthstone‘s aesthetic (and they kind of are), but this is actually a good game and once I played my first match I was hooked. It’s a great place for both newcomers and veterans of Magic to play. Arena is much more user-friendly and intuitive than Magic Online while also offering a far more authentic Magic experience than previous Duels games have.
The game is free-to-play, and I know that term gets a bad wrap nowadays, but Arena does it right. You can buy booster packs with real money or you can earn gold (and even single cards or packs on occasion) naturally through playing. I was able to build one of the most competitive decks in the format in a few weeks time and that was just by playing a few matches each day. Even in the early stages you’ll quickly earn a number of “starter decks” which will supply you with a decent selection of cards. So you’ll never be short on new things to try while you work towards building your card collection.
Arena is fantastic, and if you’ve ever even been curious about Magic: the Gathering, you should give it a shot.

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
Over that past few years I’ve played a lot of Pokémon. Between revisiting Blue, Silver, SoulSilver, Pearl, White, White 2, X, Y, Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby and playing through the new releases of Sun, Moon, and Ultra Moon, as well as shiny hunting in a few of those games, I’ve spent nearly 1,000 hours with the series in the last three years. Needless to say, I was starting to feel a bit of Pokémon fatigue (which is why I still haven’t played Ultra Sun). If that wasn’t enough, I was also never a big fan of Pokémon Go!. So when the Pokémon: Let’s Go! games were announced I had zero interest and pushed them completely off of my radar. Then the games finally released and my love for Pokémon got the best of me. I started reading reviews, watching videos, and talking to friends about them. Eventually I looked past my skepticism and decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did.
Pokémon Let’s Go! was a breath of fresh air for me. It was a laid back experience that I didn’t even know I needed. It’s far more streamlined than other games in the series as you can choose when to encounter wild Pokémon and you no longer need to battle in order to catch them (in most cases). This aspect was one of the biggest reasons I was skeptical of the game. While catching Pokémon is probably my favorite part, I do enjoy the battles as well. I was afraid I wouldn’t get the battle itch scratched, but that wasn’t the case at all. There are more than enough trainers to battle throughout, so it was almost the perfect blend of catching and battling for me.
I went with the Eevee version and oh boy, Eevee is a little badass. That little dude is completely overpowered in Let’s Go! and makes it a breeze if you choose to play that way. It’s definitely the easiest Pokémon game I’ve ever played, which is saying a lot because they’ve never been known for their difficulty, but that didn’t stop it from being the most enjoyable time I had playing a game in 2018.
Tumblr media
Octopath Traveler
Another game that surprised me in 2018 was Octopath Traveler. I’ve never been the biggest fan of JRPGs, but I was immediately drawn in by Octopath Traveler‘s charming art. When I finally got my Nintendo Switch last year it was the first game I really dug into. As it turns out, by the end of my 80 hours with it, the characters and combat system became something I loved even more than the art style that initially caught my attention.
Octopath Traveler‘s combat is turned-based and revolves around a “break” system. Each enemy has certain weaknesses to specific weapon types or elemental attacks. If you hit them with one of those attacks enough times their defenses will break and they will be stunned the following turn, allowing you to deal increased damage. There is also a boost system that allows you to hit with multiple attacks each turn. Without delving too deep into the mechanics, I’ll just say all of this offers a ton of strategic options and makes combat a joy.
If the title wasn’t telling enough, Octopath Traveler‘s story focuses on eight different characters. Each character has their own set of chapters you can complete, a variety of traits and combat options, and a unique personality and story to tell. You don’t have to finish every character’s storyline, but I exhausted all story options because I found myself wanting to know more about each one of them. I’d even go so far as to say that there hasn’t been a collective group of characters I liked this much since the original Mass Effect trilogy.
I feel like Octopath Traveler got overlooked by a lot of people, so if you’re a fan JRPGs or just looking for a quality experience you should seek this one out.
Tumblr media
God of War
Continuing with the trend of games that surprised me last year, next up is God of War. I’ve dabbled a bit in the God of War franchise, but the 2018 release was the first game in the series I’ve ever seen through to completion. It is nothing like its predecessors as it trades in the linear gameplay and shallow, over-the-top brutality for an engaging and robust world, as well as a far more rewarding combat system.
Perhaps the biggest accomplishment of God of War is that it made Kratos into a character with depth and one that I was able to invest in. It also introduced his son, Atreus, and their relationship was something I loved watching evolve over the course of the game. Kratos is still a no nonsense badass, but his humanity is allowed to shine through in his interactions with Atreus.
As I mentioned, the combat in God of War is so much more rewarding than it was in previous entries. While you might still be able to mindlessly hack-and-slash your way through on easier difficulties, if you truly want to master combat you’ll need to develop more in-depth strategies. Kratos wields the Leviathan axe this time around, which you can use for melee attacks or as a projectile. The most ingenious part is that you can recall the axe with the press of a button which not only adds to your strategic options, but also creates a very satisfying ebb and flow to combat. You’ll also have to incorporate blocking and parrying, as well as guiding Atreus to use his bow. Once I was able to start stringing together all of these moves and tactics, God of War‘s combat system quickly became one of my all-time favorites.
God of War also offers up tons of side content to keep you busy for hours. With the recent release of a New Game+ mode, I’m looking forward to running through it again. It was quite the experience and one I’m happy to call my favorite of 2018.

Most Anticipated Games
It’s always fun to look to the future, so I’m going to wrap things up with my most anticipated games. Some of these games have 2019 release dates and others I’m keeping my fingers crossed for.
Animal Crossing (Switch)| The Last of Us Part II | Mortal Kombat 11 | Pokémon (Switch) | Resident Evil 2 | Spelunky 2 | Super Meat Boy Forever
