Not every AU. At least not that I've thought out. I do believe that there'd be an Ish variant which exists for each of the more mainstream universes + my other AUs which have an Ish base (same characters. Most prominently indicated by the existence of Arial half the time) and perhaps variations of my friends' AUs.

The main ones that come to mind however...

I have two Swap variations of Ish. SwapIsh and IshSwap. There are differences, I swear. IshFell. OuterIsh. IshMob. HorrorIsh. ShiftIsh. DanceIsh. OverIsh. ReaperIsh. etc

There's a timeline of Ish where the continuation caused essentially it's own shift AU. BandiedIsh. (There's no solid name for that. You can check it out on the Timeline Doc. Timeline #427) Two of my other AUs have an Ish base (they include Arial plus maybe some other characters is pretty much the only similarity). Those AUs are UnderCult and Academia!Tale. I also had PrisonIsh. An Ish variation of @aquadine's PrisonTale.

The only Ish AUs I mildly have anything for, are the swaps but even they aren't that much. If anyone else wants to do anything with the Ish AUs, be my guest. I can give you what I have and then just go wild. Or even if you don't wanna adapt them. I can give you all I have on the swaps. Might help me develop them a bit.

It amazes me how little so many today really understand what love is. They equate love with infatuation. And nowhere has this taken hold more firmly than in the minds of our young people. I was reading some definitions of love that teenagers had given recently. One said, “Love is an inward inexpressibility of an outward all-overishness.” Another remarked, “Love is a feeling you feel when you feel you’re going to feel a feeling you never felt before.”

Now we may chuckle a little when we read those words, but we have to remember it’s not their fault they see love in such a shallow light. Our culture constantly feeds this misconception in our movies, music, and other media. These young people are simply regurgitating what they’ve been told!

But the truth is, love is not just a feeling… it’s a commitment. And while our world says, “I love you because of what you do for me,” real, biblical love says, “I love you because God first loved me.”

Real love loves after the infatuation is over. It loves when you’ve been staring at the same person over corn flakes for thirty years. So don’t let our culture tell you what love is. Love because of the love of Christ that’s in you!

Relationship status: happily single

Favourite colour: I usually default to black, but have recently gotten into warm yellow. IDEK anymore.

3 Favourite foods: Sushi, pizza, and the most push-overish mild Thai or Indian food you can imagine.

Song stuck in my head: Story time: So the movie The Entertainer is not a movie my dad loves, but he likes the music a lot. In Danish, the movie is called “Sidste stik” which is a pun that translates as “last winning hand/sting”. Sting also as in getting a vaccine shot. SO! When he had his last shot of the Covid vaccine - which coincided with his 75th birthday - he started playing the score from The Entertainer. Because “last sting”, haha? And he hasn’t stopped, and to this day, it echoes in my ears. I have come to believe it’s the ultimate dad thing and it will never go away. In some ways, I hope it doesn’t.

Anything I really want: For my brother, sister-in-law, and very young nephew to catch a break - they’ve all been sick with everything from post partum stuff to colds and nothing seems to give them a break right now. For my own cold to go away - coughing till you puke should be forbidden. For me to win enough money to help everyone. For time to be creative. And finally, for my bosses to realize that making me pick up the work of someone who quit on top of my own will not magically mean both work sets will be done on time anyway - I know I set the deadlines myself, but we were two persons then!

My parents are ripping out carpet in our Florida house. Dominic is trying to figure out which of the THREE insurance policies we’re legally required to have on that house will cover the flood damages. A kind neighbor came and cut the one tree that fell--a cedar tree--into chunks with his chainsaw and we’re giving the wood to our friend Gavin who is a general contractor based out of New Orleans and who has helped us with some house repairs this summer (before the hurricane). 

I’m waiting on the results of a Covid test I took Friday--very grumpily because I can’t have my kid’s tutor come over or have any (of the two in his “pod”) kids over to play with him before those results come back. This interrupts his schoolwork, which he was *just* getting used to doing. The way this pandemic messes with routines is the way it’s affected us most. I know there are so many worse things that can happen--and maybe will happen before the pandemic is overish--but messing with an autistic kid’s routines is pretty miserable for everyone.

It’s no fun to have a cough right now. No fun at all. 

I’m laying on my bed in a pile of cats, trying to finish my grading. Trying to be okay.

Oliver scoffed with his eyes scrunched up affectionately. The knocked away hand paused in mid-air before grabbing Mark by one of his lapels. “Come on, up you go,” Came the crackly, barely-human voice of his voice amplifier. The metal circlet was barely visible under his own undershirt, but a blue light flickered each time he spoke. He wondered, vaguely, how he got it. Right now wasn’t for those thoughts, though. It would sour the peace the pair so rarely got.

Oliver tugged gently on the tan lapel. It was enough to get the Head Engineer up to his feet, albeit he stumbled into the shorter captain from the sudden change in vantage point. Oliver huffed, surprised, but glanced up at Mark with a fond, toothy grin. He was really warm, even with the sliver of space still between them. Poor man was getting sick. “You’re all-overish, and I’m not just going to stand here and let my best engineer work himself to dust.”

Oliver pulled one of Mark’s arms over his shoulder and helped him dazedly walk to the Head Engineer’s quarters nearby. Their boots clanked against the hall’s metal floor, occasionally having the drag of a foot joining the soft noise. “I’ll take care of the checks for the Warp Core, Mark. Try not to worry about it while you sleep this off.” The Captain continued, letting Mark open the door before getting him laid down in his messy bed. Before Oliver left, though, he pulled off his left glove and pocketed it. Warmth coasted along Mark’s fever-damp forehead, with Oliver’s cool fingertips resting along the edge of his dark hair. It was nice in this quiet moment. Mark was breathing, shaky but strong, face red and burning, but he had a sweet, bleary look in his eyes. The Captain swallowed when they landed on his own. They were dark pools, full of so much love and trust that Oliver couldn’t help himself but be a little selfish. Fingers carefully trailed up into the ruffled raven locks, scratching the scalp minutely as they were tugged away. “I’ll make sure someone gets you medicine and something good to eat when I leave. I think we caught this early enough you’ll be back on deck in no time...” The Captain paused.

“...And I’ll be checking on you, personally. Those are my orders.”

Being 2 books ahead of my reading goal on Goodreads is something I don’t recall ever happening in my years of being on the platform.

Sometimes I even wish I did not have to work so I could spend the rest of my days lost inside a book. I often fantasize about creating a stream of income out of this relentless thirst for literature.

Even as I’m typing this blog post, I feel tempted to abandon this task so I can carry on reading The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green. I’m a little all-overish over having only less than 30 mins. left before I log into work.

What I find beautiful about reading is that it’s perceived differently by everyone. Even reading a piece of literature at different points in your life evokes varying thoughts and impressions. The closest term I can relate to this feeling is Sonder—the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.

There’s really no exact call-to-action or profound message behind this blog post. I just wanted to express how beautiful it is to be able to read.

We had the chance to ask the artist a few questions: keep reading to learn more:

I love how “Heart’s On Fire” seamlessly combines the energy of rock and the melodies of pop - what’s your secret to combining the two?

Tom: I’m not sure there’s a secret. I suppose I was always intrigued by the possibility of making rock melodic. It’s always been my sound and my thing. “Heart’s On Fire” and the next single “Doormat” are a bit more poppy than most tracks on the upcoming album but then again, singles usually are. I’m sure my infatuation with combining pop and rock comes from artists such as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. I love them, especially the first seven albums. I think they are outstanding. The songs are extremely engaging and yet The Heartbreakers are playing the heck out of them. Another group that I probably subconsciously emulate are The Smithereens. You see I never felt that rock needs to be simple but rather envisioned that it could be quite artsy. I do listen to AC/DC every once in a while and have all their albums. However, although I love their songs, theirs was never the road I was going to travel as a musician. This became very clear especially after discovering artists like David Bowie and albums like Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. One of my all-time favorite artists is a British band called Rialto. There’s another great example of artsy and cinematic rock.

The music video is really fun and it suits the vibe of the song - how did you come up with the concept?

Tom: The music video is my wife’s baby. She’s the one who scripted, filmed, directed and edited it, so I’ll hand the floor over to her for a bit.

Elina: What we originally wanted to do was to shoot the music video in a closed bar where old friends meet after all the other customers have already left the premises. Due to COVID, we had to heavily restrict the number of people on set, and that’s why the concept for the video changed slightly. However, I think this approach fits the story of the lyrics just as well. After all, the song is about friends who are, for one reason or another, somewhere else, busy living their lives. Also, I am convinced that Tom’s not the only one who has performed in an empty room to an imaginary audience. I’m sure that there is a big number of people who can relate to that. Having said that, it was most likely the first time Tom has ever done it, at least as an adult. It took him a while to get into the groove but it really worked well in the end, I think.

As a guitar geek, love that Rickenbacker! Did you also use it to record the track?

Tom: Yeah, I did. I don’t use it all that often anymore. I seem to prefer my Telecaster these days but I did use it for this particular song as it has a very distinct sound, which I needed especially for that Roger McGuinn/Indian raga influenced guitar solo. And obviously, it’s not just the question of sound. Rickenbackers have a very mandolin-like feel, the strings rest a bit higher on those guitars than on your usual electric guitar, which makes playing raga-like solos with them a bit harder. This results in phrasing like the one on “Heart’s On Fire”, which is angular and raw, as you have to press the strings pretty damn hard to get anything out of the guitar. This was exactly what I wanted the solo to sound like: a bit hang-overish, like the one McGuinn plays on “Eight Miles High”!

Do you have any favorite moment or part in the song?

Tom: I like it all, but my favorite part is the very end with those extra vocals and all the other little things in the mix. Another favorite part is the Celtic bagpipe riff. I doesn’t seem to get old for me. All in all, the track’s probably one of my better ones. It was a lot of fun to record and mix. My producer Janne Saksa worked closely with me on this one, so it’s not all me. He’s a very talented guy.

Personally, do you enjoy playing guitar or singing more?

I love both. I feel I’m first and foremost a singer but I truly love playing the guitar. However, truth be told, I probably enjoy playing the guitar more than singing, simply because singing or rather, getting a good clean vocal take is so damn hard. I always record about thirty lead vocal tracks and then start editing them a week after I’ve sung them. It’s just a lot of work and takes so very long that the whole process is a bit tedious. I don’t look forward to that at all. Now, if I had somebody doing the editing for me, then singing would be a whole lot of fun!

Any plans to play live soon?

I’m afraid not. Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps are a studio project. Since I play everything myself and don’t have a band, it’d be a bit difficult to play songs like “Heart’s On Fire” live. If my songs ever truly take off, then maybe I’ll put together a band but until that point, it’s much more convenient to play everything myself. I’m never saying never though. At one point in my life, I had decided that I didn’t want kids. Now, I have six boys and I love them with all my heart. Maybe it’s the same thing with The Missing Hubcaps...maybe they’ll also exist one day.

🔲 英語の「語源」とは？

英単語は「接頭語」「語根」「接尾語」の3つから構成されているます。

英単語の根幹の意味を成す「語根」は、もともとラテン語やギリシャ語などから派生してきました。

その「語根」の前後に、「接頭語」と「接尾語」と言われるパーツが付いて、さらに様々な単語に派生しています。

■現代英語の由来割合

ラテン語由来　４５％ ギリシャ語由来　１５％ アングロサクソン語由来　２０％ その他　２０％

Introduction = intro ＋duct ＋ ion

【接頭辞】intro- = inward（中に）

【語 根】 duct = lead （導く） 　由来：ラテン語の「ducere」

【接尾辞】 -tion（～こと）＊名詞化

　⇒　中に導くこと　➡　「紹介」

Inspection = in ＋spect ＋ ion

【接頭辞】in- （～の中に）

【語 根】 spect=spec,spic（見る） 　由来：ラテン語の「specere」

さらに語根、接頭辞、接尾辞を含む英単語を構成する「アルファベット２６文字」のそれぞれの意味を 理解することで、英単語の記憶の定着に役立ちます。

■　英単語学習の考え方

すべての英単語は、アルファベット２６文字の組合せです。

単に暗記するのではなく、、これ以上分解できないアルフェベットのレベルまで分解し、 英単語がもつマインド（心、意味、ニュアンス）を理解しようとする学習方法です。

知らない単語や忘れてしまった単語に出会ったとき、意味を推測します。 そのとき、肯定的な意味なのか否定的な意味なのか、どのような動きか 方向はどちらへ向かっているのかなど、この学習方法によって、 出来る限り的を外さないで意味を導きだすことができるようになります。

学習のイメージとしては下記の通りです。

但し、この学習方法は簡単なことではありません。

アルファベット２６文字（それぞれの各文字）は、 A＝〇〇〇　B＝△△△のように１つの限定した意味やはっきりした 意味をもっているのではなく、大きな広がりを持っています。

例えば、

１つのアルファベットの文字「B」は、「耐える」「はじく」の意味 を持ちます。

bearのように「B]は本来、「外からの圧力に耐える」という基本的な 意味をもちますが、耐えきれなくなって、その結果、bombのように 「内部から外へ勢いよく出る」、「はじく」という意味ももつよう になります。

「耐える」と「はじく」はまったく逆の力、方向の意味です。

これを【逆行性】といいます。

但し、アルフェベット２６文字すべてが【逆行性】の意味をもっているわけではありません。

アルファベット２６文字は、英単語の最小限の単位なので、１つの文字がもつ意味は広いです。

従って、イラストなどを使って自分が理解しやすいように、大きくイメージで捉えることがコツです。

■ どのような人が対象か

・ 英単語の意味をまる暗記するのではなく、「なぜ、その意味になるのか？」を深く理解したい方。

・ 接頭辞、接尾辞、語根をさらに細かく分解して理解したい方。

・ 知らない単語に出会ったとき、その意味をできる限り正しく推測できるようになりたい方

・ 現在覚えている英単語を効率的に増やしたい方。

・ 一度覚えた単語をいつまでも忘れないようにしたい方。

■どのようなメリットがあるか

・「なぜ」を理解するので、一度覚えた英単語は忘れ難くなります。

・既に知っている単語から、効率よく単語数を増やすことができます。

・知らない単語を推測するとき、出来る限り的を外さないようになります。

・受験生だけでなく社会人で英文を読む仕事に携わっている方にも英単語の意味を 効率よく理解できるようになります。

■ ご注意

・アルファベットAからZ それぞれの意味を、覚えようとするのではなく、 大きくイメージを大きく「捉える」よう心掛けてください。

・英単語は歴史上、様々な国の言葉からの由来が多く、上記で解説したアルファベットAからZのそれぞれの意味 がすべての英単語に当てはまるわけではありません。例外もあります。

「現在の英単語の由来は割合」は、下記の通りです。

①ラテン語から由来のもの：　４５％ ②ギリシャ語から由来のもの：１５％ ③アングロ・サクソン語由来のもの：２０％ ④その他：　２０％
