For those who don't remember, here's the lawsuit two years ago where Tumblr (or specifically Automattic) settled with the New York City Commission on Human Rights regarding Tumblr's terribly implemented porn ban targeting LGBTQ folk more than it should. Here's an excerpt detailing what the NYCCHR ordered Tumblr to do:

The settlement gives Tumblr 180 days to hire an expert on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) issues and provide related training to moderators. It must also hire someone with experience in this area as well as expertise in image classification, who will review Tumblr’s moderation algorithms to see if they’re more likely to flag LGBTQ content. As part of an overall review, Tumblr will reexamine 3,000 old cases where a user successfully appealed a takedown, looking for patterns that could indicate bias.

Some Undertale gamer headcanons:

Someone said that Toriel would be the world Tetris champion, and I'm not sure why, but I agree with that. And not just Tetris, but bubble-poppers, match 3, marble-shooters, all of those kinds of games. She's the new Candy Crush mascot.

I've also seen people say sans would be into rhythm games, and... no. Why would you think he would be into something that takes that much effort? Seriously, come on. What sans is into is farming sim games. He's written dozens of online strategy guides for Stardew Valley, all of them under different pseudonyms.

Papyrus is into online multiplayers. All of them, any genre- Fortnite, Apex Legends, Fall Guys, Elder Scrolls Online, Runescape, you name it. He sucks at all of them, but none of his online friends is willing to tell him how bad he is because he's so darned innocent and nice. Nobody really wants him on their team because he'll always make them fail the mission, but he's so upbeat and uplifting that no one has the heart to tell him they don't want him.

Undyne loves Souls-like and dungeon crawlers, but she struggles with anything that requires stealth, she just doesn't. do. stealth. She says it's stupid to have to sneak up on enemies, she should just be able to barge in with guns or swords or spears blazing in any and all circumstances. Don't ever even suggest Metal Gear to her. Or Breath of the Wild- she rage-quit after the Yiga Clan Hideout quest (although it did leave her with the impression that bananas give you strength in battle, so she now always keeps a bunch of bananas on hand).

Blooky plays solitaire and Mah Jongg, and even those stress them out.

Maddie plays casino and slots games. On an unrelated note, she's always broke.

Mettaton is the rhythm games master. You will not change my mind on this.

Alphys is HEAVY into JRPG's. The more anime it looks, the more she loves it.

Asgore has no idea what a video game is. Well, ok, he has some idea, his kids both played games, but he never could figure them out. He thinks Sonic and Crash are both Mario characters and that Link is a girl- you get the idea. But he did used to play card and board games with Toriel. Especially chess (she totally owned his ass in every match). Ever since Toriel left, he can't bring himself to play chess. He plays checkers a lot, tho. He usually loses (he plays against himself).

Asriel and Chara were into action/adventure games. Asriel's favorite characters were Yoshi and Link, while Chara's favorites were Samus and Shadow the Hedgehog. What? No, I'm not projecting my favorite games onto the Dreemurr kids. What are you talking about?

Frisk has only ever played the hit indie game Undertale. About 500 times. Always Pacifist, they've never even tried a Geno run. They've been thinking about playing that Deltarune game, too, but they kinda wanna wait until the whole thing is released.

Thank you everyone for your patience! You can find a playlist of the accepted submissions here. In total, there are 1080. (Some of them are missing from the playlist but I don't know. which ones 😭 If you can't find one of your submissions please let me know, & otherwise I'll try to catch the missing ones when I'm adding videos to polls.)

Couple notes:

The video linked by the submitter for the Prelude theme from Final Fantasy is from an orchestral performance, not the games, so I'm using a different video for it. I just went for the one from the Final Fantasy soundtrack, but if the submitter would prefer a different instance of the theme, please let me know!

Break: Primrose, the Dancer from Octopath Traveler is a piano arrangement that doesn't seem to appear in-game, so it wasn't accepted (but Primrose, the Dancer was also submitted and was accepted).

The rest of the submissions I didn't accept were all pre-existing tracks or covers/remixes of them: Termination Shock from Just Shapes & Beats, Isolated from Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Get It Together from Little Big Planet, Nuclear from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Focus from Super Hexagon, Sans Toi from Helix Waltz, Moon River (∞ Climax Mix) from Bayonetta 2, and Title3, Title1/Flip-Flap, & THUNDERDOME (Sector11) from Space Station 13.

There were a couple more that I wasn't going to accept, specifically video game tracks remixed in other games (as in, from unrelated series), but then I remembered Most of the submitted tracks from Super Smash Bros and kind of threw my hands up. So I'm bending my rules to allow those for consistency's sake. To be honest, if I ever do a season 2 of this, I'd probably just do away with the 'no pre-existing tracks' rule entirely but that would obviously be a while from now so. Focusing on getting through season 1 for now!

Not entirely Hypmic related, but I did get curious after thinking about it for the Buster Bros. I know that Japanese people tend to refer to each other on a last-name first basis if they're not particularly close, but when speaking to siblings, how would this work? Like "Yamada-kun" for example, could apply to all 3 brothers.

Yeah, you could call them all Yamada-san. I feel like it wouldn't be super confusing in practice because it's difficult to think of a situation where you'd be at "Yamada-san" level with all three of them.

See, name honorifics are one of a number of ways the speaker indicates what they feel about the listener--emotional closeness/distance, respect/admiration, paternalistic warmth--but everyone around the globe adjusts their speech to indicate this too. Japanese explicitly codifies it into language, but even if you speak nothing but English, you can find those same concepts in your ordinary life.

Let's pretend you're 17 and one of Jirou's classmates. How would you refer to Jirou? Well, how do you (or did you, if you--the person reading this--are no longer a teen) talk to your classmates compared to teenage strangers? You probably feel more comfortable with them, so your conversation takes on a more relaxed, casual tone than with a total stranger. Maybe you share inside jokes, use slang, use more contractions. In Japanese, you can do all of those things and also say "Jirou-kun" or "Yamada-kun" to show that emotional closeness. Ichirou, then, is your clasmmate's older brother. You probably don't know him very well. People, especially young people, tend to look up to or admire those who are older than them. If you've ever had a cool older friend, friend's older sibling, or friend of a sibling, maybe you wanted them to think you were cool too. You wouldn't use the same inside jokes as you would with a classmate, and you'd probably (at least subconsciously) be a bit more deferential. So, one of the ways you would express that in Japanese is through "Yamada-san" or "Ichirou-san." Saburou, on the other hand, is your classmate's little sibling. Kids and teens don't tend to respect little siblings or younger kids all that much. Not like there's anything wrong with them--they're just young! They lack the same experience you do. They say stupid things because they are yet to be 17 and, consequently, paragons of maturity and knowledge. Duh. Your language choice reflects these subconscious judgements. You might start speaking in a slightly higher pitch or be otherwise a little more patronizing (like, "Oh, you're on the chess club at school? And the science bowl? Wow, that's so cool! Good for you!" *exchanges a Knowing Look w/ Jirou over Saburou's head*). In Japanese, you might also say "Saburou-kun." Let's try another scenario. Let's say you're an unrelated adult facing all three of the Buster Bros. Maybe you're with the orphanage? Either way, you're an adult facing three kids you don't know very well. You can respect them as individuals, but you're still likely to treat them a little differently than you would treat adults. You might use simpler language, or you might be a little jokey or friendly to try to put them at ease. In Japanese, you could also express that like "Ichirou-kun," "Jirou-kun," and "Saburou-kun." (If this is present day Ichirou and you think of him as an adult, he'd probably be "Yamada-san.") Worst comes to worst and you truly are in a situation where all three take "Yamada-san," I feel like it'd be fine to use "oniisan" and "otouto-san" (big and little brother) to differentiate. Or simply use their full names. "Yamada Ichirou-san," "Yamada Jirou-san," etc. I could see that being appropriate for very formal contexts. Sorry for the wall of text, but I feel like there's an aura of mystique around Japanese, especially when it comes to respectful language and honorifics, and I consider it important to not feed into that or the idea that there's something unique or endemic about the mindsets of people who use Japanese. We're all just people! And while it's insulting to erase differences in cultures and personal circumstances, it's likewise dehumanizing to pretend that our communication methods lock us in or out of basic human feelings and experiences. Languages provide lenses to approach the world, and some languages cast a focus on or obscure different elements than others. Still, that doesn't change who we fundamentally are inside, and I consider it crucial to keep this in mind whenever translating or discussing language across spacial and cultural borders. That's why I like to break concepts down to the underlying ideas instead of locking them in one language or another. Hopefully this helps! :)

hey everyone. I’m coming to you live with an INVESTIGATIVE REPORT about the one and only sasaki shuumei. the question above pretty much summarizes what I'm trying to find out. so I’ll expand on this under the cut. apologies in advance for any typos

there’s a scene that’s always made me confused ever since I first read it (which wow. I’ve been reading this manga as it updates since partly through volume 3… crazy how far its come!) and that is this sequence of two pages in the extras of Vol 7 (39.5), below:

hirano’s like “well, it’s fine to talk about me to miyano as long as you didn’t say any weird stuff about me” and sasaki goes. Silent. Now I at the time assumed like. ah sasaki’s talking about the hirano and kagiura relationshipisms. or the whole uke thing. right?

…right?

see, the thing is: when sasaki visits campus in ch 46, he asks the basketball team about a kagi-kun, and then when miyano questions him about what he was doing, he’s like “oh I just remembered hirano’s old roommate was on the basketball team,” and then refuses to even tell miyano his name. so it’s like… did sasaki EVER talk about hirano’s roommate to Miyano? like of his own initiative? did he offer any information? so I decided that instead of just bringing that question up, I’d reread all of sasaki to miyano and get my answer.

disclaimer that this deals with exclusively the manga: I have this hidden fear that I’m going to post this and get a reply like “oh this is 50% of the entire novel content” but! the scene in question comes up in the manga! I think it ought to then refer to an event in the manga! but seriously if stuff like that does come up in the novel feel free to chime in. also bc I was rereading the whole manga I have Other Thoughts Too but. those can hopefully marinate their way into other posts.

ch 2:

miyano: But I saw you! I saw you laughing as you chatted with a first-year boy from class 1A in the basketball club with a lovely smile!

this does not count. miyano brings this up to hirano himself. in fact a lot of miyano putting hirano into bl contexts happens In Front Of Hirano’s Face. not really a conversation starter for sasaki. it does make ch 46 way more interesting bc it means like. sasaki has remembered that kagiura’s on the basketball team to the point that he wants to check in on him? whereas miyano like Knows this info yet never really pursues it. suppose it’d be awkward to just go up and try to find him without knowing his name, though.

ch 4:

sasaki says “but hirano can handle alcohol fine” which is perfectly on topic since they were just discussing how sasaki can’t handle it. it’s miyano that spins into bl fantasies afterwards. also hirano is right there in this situation. does not count.

ch 5:

sasaki: Hirano’s playing Oiwa-san for the haunted house. Want to see? He’s crossdressing and wearing a wig.

this does count. sasaki is bringing up hirano and telling miyano something that miyano would totally get excited about. it is, I would say, not brought up out of nowhere, since they discuss crossdressing right before. unrelated to this I would love to see the image of sasaki as hanako-san of the toilet.

ch 6:

sasaki asks about miyano’s love life and when miyano says that he’s not romantically interested in anyone around here, and sasaki asks “what about hirano?” miyano says he ships him with his roommate and the conversation ends there. I would say this also does not count—yeah, he’s perhaps bringing up hirano as a romantic prospect, but I think this is more sasaki like. being jealous more than it is using him as a reason to talk to miyano. he’s like. a pretty jealous guy.

ch 8:

sasaki tells miyano that his grades suck and hirano’s been tutoring him. this does not count.

ch 11:

sasaki says “don’t you prefer black-haired ukes?” and “ah, you mean like hirano?” when miyano says he prefers manly ukes. this does count. while it’s in the topic of conversation, there’s not a real reason he has to bring hirano up. plus, he even continues it with “hirano’s pretty tall. can he still not be a seme?” so it’s using hirano to keep a conversation going with miyano, but I will note it’s not what starts the conversation.

ch 13:

sasaki talks about hirano getting banned from doing the ball toss. this does not count.

ch 24.5:

“ooh, if it was hirano, it would be taiko” says sasaki when miyano brings up all the girl names that he and his classmates would have. this does not count. it’s a natural extension of the various female names they’ve been talking about, sasaki included, and hirano’s their mutual friend.

ch 33:

sasaki brings up hirano’s dedication to studying and how he says that getting accepted to university isn’t the finish line. says hirano’s pretty cool for that mindset. this does not count.

ch 41:

sasaki says "haha, yikes! hirano was a terrible influence!" when miyano tells him about kuresawa getting a piercing. this does not count. it’s also after graduation, where the scene happened.

ch 42.5:

sasaki is like wow I can't believe hirano's roommate does THAT in the mornings to miyano, regarding vol 2 of sasaki to miyano. however this kind of thing isn't quite canonical since they know there are books being published about them so. this does not count.

halloween 2018 extra:

miyano asks if sasaki's friends got their items confiscated, and sasaki replies by saying that hirano's in charge of confiscation for their class, so their class had the idea to overwhelm him. this does not count.

dvd extra 4:

sasaki tells miyano about how they ripped the wallpaper on accident, and once he said it kind of gave it a badboy feel, they started doing it on purpose. hirano participated in it too. this does not count.

I’ve probably missed some, but we can see that out of all of these situations, only TWO are actually what I’d qualify as “weird” by hirano’s metrics. unless sasaki talking about the wild stuff Hirano gets up to includes his ball toss strategy and him ripping up wallpaper. then it’s four. my point is that sasaki says it’s “a lot” when it’s not. so… why is that?

I’ve been mulling over a couple of ideas regarding this, but I kind of don’t want to offer up my own interpretations first? plus when I tried writing my answer I spun off into a really bad tangent, so… post ends here. hope we all learned something here!

Pokomatsu: Hesokuri Wars' "Replacement"

For those who don't know, when Heso announced its shutdown last year, a new app game called Pokomatsu (technically its full name is Osomatsu-san: Protagonist Contest Pokoball) was also announced, serving as a replacement for Heso. Despite this, gameplay-wise, it has nothing in common with Heso lol -- I think it can be best described as a pinball game in which you can collect cards like in Hachamecha Party (anyone else remember that one?) -- but I FINALLY downloaded and tried it today and it's actually reusing a lot of Heso assets?

For one, that little ghost that shows up when you kill an enemy looks mighty familiar, and so does that HP bar -- and oh wait, how strange! Why do I feel like I've seen that corner showing all my coins before?

(You get the idea. RIP to New Osomatsu, btw.)

But I think the most notable thing - and this is something I had been told before I downloaded the game -- is the fact that some of the cards you can collect are just... Heso units? The other types of cards you can collect are screenshots from the show and the movies (a given), but then you just have this other catalog of collectible Hesokuri Wars cards that remind you of happier times that you can fill, whether through rolling in the in-game gacha or beating levels. Like, Cthulhu Mythos Summer!Karamatsu was literally the first card I got when I started playing earlier:

And there's just a whole bunch of these that you can collect in this game if you were to play. There are only really a handful of sets that are available in Pokomatsu -- most aren't in here at all -- but idk. It's just something interesting I felt was worth mentioning, given that the staff seems like it wants to connect the two games to each other, even if they're otherwise totally unrelated and even if one of them has been shut down. Fuck, I miss Heso.

Oh, and the voice clips used in this game are the same voice clips as the ones from Heso. Obviously, I can't really show people this one unless I upload a video with audio or something buuuut I also don't feel like doing it atm so lol. Maybe later.

arcturus religious arc?? do say more

arcturus is funny because i haven't actually talked about them and the rest of the MCM cast on this blog very much (in fact i don't think i've even namedropped leus?) but they occupy so much of my brainspace. at least 1/339274th of my singular braincell. and lemme tell you that's more than any one OC frankly ever should

anyway! arcturus is religious. like. in the freak sort of way. in the they're Really Fucking Normal about this sort of way. they're so fucking normal right now. you can trust them. they swear. they are soooooooooooooo normal.

to elaborate further would be getting into MCM (and some hints of APF) lore as a whole, which i will do anyway, but under the cut because i like to pretend to respect my follower's dashboard scrolling time

so. the thing about APF and MCM is that they are two wildly different stories taking place at wildly different times in fantasy world history. but they are taking place in the exact same setting with the exact same shared fantasy world history.

this is the full mimue geographical world map, sans cities, primarily made for APF purposes but also featuring MCM's two (unnamed as of right now) focus continents off to the far left. MCM's story mostly spans the northern part of this duo. unlike what i affectionately refer to as "the APF plot triangle" (or eastern mimue, if you wanna get technical) country names are not synonymous with continent names and this is weirdly way more important to MCM lore than you might think.

this is an extremely rough mockup of a "mimue political map". green designating arboret, gold designating sanctus, blue designating requies... and brown designating medeis, with icy blue designating sulia. grey designates a cluster of various smaller border countries that definitely exist but i haven't worldbuilded them as of yet and don't really plan to go in-depth with them because they're mostly irrelevant to anything ever.

MCM focuses on medeis and sulia. and only these two. another crucial element of MCM is that everyone living there is completely disconnected from the other side of the world. the map makes them seem relatively close to arboret but in actuality it's way more like a mutual undiscovered new world situation. the folks in western mimue have absolutely no idea there's an APF plot happening in the first place, much less a cluster. similarly, everyone in APF is unaware of western mimue's existence and they all consider arboret to be the furthest edge of the known world (with just ocean laying beyond that). christopher columbus hasn't attacked mimue yet is what i'm saying.

however. they do share a world history, and setting, and magic system, and hey wasn't there a whole thing with eastern mimue and an angel blessing the world a thousand years ago that encompassed the entire planet in scope and you can go read about it on Ao3 if you feel like it right now?

y'know. that mildly significant part of mimue history that basically overturned the world forever and inspired a new religion in eastern mimue dedicated to following the angel like it's a god. that mildly important minor detail.

yeah, the MCM crew has no idea about any of that. but they were still affected by it. they just... interpreted it slightly differently.

magic in the world of mimue is an anomaly by mimian standards. something New and Weird and Unnatural. eastern mimue, with the context of the blessing angel as a bringer of peace and forgiveness and prosperity, treats it as something to be valued and admired.

western mimue does not do this. western mimue basically got blasted with magic with zero context of what was going on across the ocean, and everyone is CONFLICTED about it. some believe it's a favor from their gods, others believe it's a curse from those that scorn them, and still others shun anyone with "too much" magical ability in the first place.

by-the-by, completely totally definitely unrelated to that above statement, who are those western mimue gods?

well.

while those in eastern mimue have largely abandoned mimue's old ways and barely anyone has any real recollection of The Before Times, western mimue is desperately clinging to those exact same old beliefs. to its old gods, for lack of a better word.

no, seriously. who were these old gods?

dragons, of course. they're the primary subject of worship in western mimue- and a dying one, at that. in modern-day MCM (and by extension modern-day APF, though it takes place a long while before MCM) most of the median and sulian population haven't seen a real "godlike" dragon in centuries.

but they are still very much around. just. hanging out. being worshipped and served by mortals. fully sapient talking dragons held up as gods. are they actually? that's debatable, but also a debate topic that'll get you a lot of stink-eyes in sulia and some especially devout sectors of medeis.

speaking of.

arcturus! remember when this was an ask about them and not just a mimue theological history lesson? yeah i don't either. but lets discuss them anyway.

a lot of what y'all can know about arcturus (without spoiling MCM too much) can be found in their point-of-view story, wherein they admittedly don't spend a lot of time ruminating on their faith but do namedrop their draconic overlords at the very end all dramatic-like.

they briefly allude to their backstory though! that's something!

to keep an even longer rant about medeis political lore short, arcturus is in a position roughly equivalent to the president. their official in-universe title is Honored Exemplary, but in terms of real-world-analogy it's essentially just being president of the united states.

y'know. if the US was an expansionist empire with technology far surpassing anything else in the world and was also powered by a monster kept in the basement that has to be fed live sacrifices weekly or else the entire thing goes to hell. and also the president and the head of parliament had a weird toxic yuri situationship going on and it's probably inevitably going to end in either murder, a double suicide pact, or both.

so, just the US, really.

the funny thing about arcturus is that they aren't actually native to medeis. parallax is! they aren't. their original home was conquered early-on in their youth, and they've basically grown up surrounded entirely by median society and technology.

and they've adapted like a fish to water. they're like if the country mouse discovered cars exist and became an absolute sicko over it. meanwhile parallax is like if the city mouse just really yearned to be eaten alive by moss (neither of these fucks are normal or honestly entirely sane)

worship of the great big questionably-deity lizards was a BIG part of what little they can remember about their old life. and they're like. REALLY into it. they're the guy who insists you have to pray before every meal and spends an hour daily kneeling in front of their dedicated God Shrine asking for repentance. they latched onto dragonology like a dying man in the desert latches onto a water bottle. they're very very very big on punishing themself for the whole technically-being-a-serial-killer-by-feeding-the-basement-monster thing and they see religion as an outlet for exorcising their own sins. which is really normal behavior, im sure.

and also magic tends to be viewed in a really negative light by Hardcore Traditionalist People™ and they were raised in that environment and as a mutant with zero magical ability to speak of they were basically uplifted as a savior and a favorite of god from day one and they've got an absolutely horrible case of hyperempathy + religious savior complex because of it. so y'know. that's also a mildly important factor. just a tad bit.

TLDR;

arcturus does this. but like. for dragons.

Deco: Second trial songs are… intense. Um, for real, they’re … I choose this word deliberately, but they’re hell. Even in the first trial, there were some scary and thrilling songs, but looking back, they were merely self introductions. Just the surface of the character. We’ve only taken the tip of the iceberg to show the viewers. The second trial takes into account everyone’s votes and we’ve reflected the characters’ turmoils, so it’s hell. Really. So those of you who voted – I think we have a lot of viewers here who have voted – you need to fully prepare yourselves for the second trial, or else it will be very mentally taxing.

Amami: It does feel taxing

Deco: It’s taxing. Especially if it’s your bias

Lounsbery: But it’s a result of everyone’s decisions.

Yuuta: Though people would be mistaken if we switch places and introduce ourselves like that. Feels like this strategy has a fatal flaw, right?

Hinata: I was wondering about that too! I was worried if we were getting in the way of an important meeting.

Tori: Hmm~. Well, it’s not like it’s totally unrelated to you two, so it’s not like you’re in the way or anything. Right Anzu, Isara-senpai?

Mao: I was talking to Anzu since I thought you were handling that matter but you just flew over here…

But anyways, yeah, Tori’s right. We’re just talking about the Chocolat Festival.

Yuuta: Chocolat Fes? So you guys are talking about next year already, huh…

Mao: Yup. Don’t you remember just how hectic last year’s Chocolat Festival turned out to be?

Anzu summarized all of last year’s issues, so we hope we can have a smooth operation this time around.

Tori: 2wink will be participating in Chocolat Fes too, so lemme fill you in.

Actually, there seems to be a problem that’s hindering us from holding the event the way we did until now. So we called Anzu over to see how we the school should approach it.

Hinata: Whaa… You brought it up casually, but isn’t that pretty serious…!?

Mao: Hm~, well we might not be able to hold it “the way we did until now”, but we should be able to find a way to hold it nonetheless. Basically, what had happened was…

Yuuta: So due to a domestic conflict in one of the countries down south, cacao imports have declined… I can imagine how troublesome this has been for our dear manufacturer.

Hinata: But Tenshouin-senpai’s working on a solution, right? I feel like he could do somethin’ to fix this.

Tori: I think it’d be great if he could, too but… Even Eichi-sama has limits on what he can and can’t do.

Mao: Our manufacturer would also become indebted to us. Given it’s a problem that can’t be solved through power or capital, I doubt it’ll be solved any time soon.

It might not even be possible that it’ll be resolved by the time Chocolat Fes comes around.

So… we’ve been discussing it with Anzu. If we’re able to safely secure even some of the chocolate needed, we want to prioritize the rookie units.

Tori: Then, the kids of fledgling units who haven’t yet experienced Chocolat Fes can put their all into baking sweets! Well, hopefully.

Hinata: Then, that’d ensure at least some sweets, even if things aren’t as usual.

Yuuta: That’d prevent the newbie units from getting overwhelmed with an irregular situation of having nothing to work with. That part’s a good idea, but…

What about the other units, the ones who aren’t newbies?

Mao: …Of course you worry about that part, huh? Well, there’s a reason why Tori said that it’s not totally unrelated to you, so lemme tell you—

As the academy’s strongest unit, we were thinking of having you guys in charge of the sweet provisions and planning for Chocolat Fes.

Yuuta: The sweet provisions and planning…

Yuuta: …Wait, and the planning!?

Personality: Most people characterize him as flirtatious, aggressive, and harsh. When the chips are down, he doesn't back down. He is snarky and very strong. He doesn't like some people very much. Although he is incredibly gentle and caring toward his loved ones, if someone poses a threat to them, he will rip them apart. He never thinks twice about reaching out to assist. He goes for the throat and offers assistance where he can. To keep the people he loves safe, he will kill. He is more bite than bark. He doesn't hesitate to help. He is very fierce and protective.

Personality: He is quieter, more measured, and more severe than his sibling. He will murder to win a fight, and he never backs down. He consistently goes straight for the throat and never backs down. He keeps all possible threats out of his home. He is fiercely determined to defend his haven. Although he rarely loses his temper, he is incredibly passionate, and crossing that line can be dangerous. He won't lose anyone else; he will defend those he loves. He is a hard foe to beat and those who underestimate him die trying.

Personality: As they would say, fierce, cold, but flirty. He is incredibly intelligent, pays close attention to detail, and is perceptive of his opponents' emotions. When it comes to a full-on brawl, he doesn't back down and moves very quickly. He takes his responsibility to safeguard others very seriously. He never hesitates to act fearfully because he is a menace. He is fiercely protective and relentlessly pursues anyone he can. He will never lose anyone again since he loves them so much.

Personality: He is brusque, gruff, and unrelenting in his pursuit of the kill. He isn't scared to take action to keep his loved ones safe. He is a force of nature and doesn't hesitate; he is aware of this. He is devoted and watchful. He is fully prepared to fight to defend those he loves. He is not hesitating. His bite is harsher than his bite, but he is incredibly gentle to kids. He's never going to let anyone in again. He has a good temper.

hi, hello! 🥰 just ryan (h/h, 25+) again introducing you all to yet another muse of mine. i'm probably going to call all of them favs, and i apologize, but this muse... well, he's a lot. my favorite problem child... 😈 his name is robby han! he's the maknae, lead vocal, and lead dancer of newAve, and he's liable to get into a scandal at literally any minute, but he's still here... 🤣 read more below!

1.

robby was born in san diego, ca to a single mom. he has an older brother, too, named jamie. the three of them struggled to stay on their feet for a very long time. his mom was kicked out of the house when she became pregnant with her first-born, and her life hasn't been steady ever since, but she's always worked hard to support her kids. robby gets his work ethic from her. he remembers being mind-numbingly bored at every restaurant his mom worked at to keep their lights on, and he also remembers seeing other kids at his school have way more than he did at the time. from an early age, robby began to view life as unfair, and it manifested in a lot of anger.

he was a hellion. he fought with a lot of his peers, ended up in the principal's often very often, and eventually, got expelled from school. however, around the same time, his mother married a really nice guy—someone who genuinely came into their lives and totally changed it, all for the better. gael was the father figure he needed, and gael's family embraced robby with open arms, as well. what's more is that they were all patient enough to support robby in getting help for his anger issues.

later in life, despite presenting himself as your typical dirtbag alt boy on campus, he discovered a passion for dance. it was first mentioned to him by his therapist as a way to help calm him down; to get in touch with his body in ways that weren't violent. in his opinion, dancing is really what saved his life, and he knew that he needed to do it for as long as his body would allow him to.

with passion and grit, he auditioned for canvas labs and is now a member of their first boy group, newAve. he may be the youngest of the lot, but his personality's not for the faint of heart. overall, he's young and figure himself out; fucking up and learning from mistakes as days go by.

robby han is still a hellion. he's just gained better self-control, at least when it matters. for those who know about astrology, he's a scorpio stellium to the t. mars is also in house 1, making its effects even stronger upon him as an individual. he's combative, and aggressive, and cunning, and passionate, and obsessive, and strong, and sensitive, and everything that encompasses the scorpion, but with a touch of beauty, romance, and balance—a libra venus.

every time i write robby, he cracks me up. he has this way about him that's provocative, shockingly so even, but it's also so cheeky. there's a wink in his tone, a teasing one that lives to taunt and fluster. can he take things a little too far sometimes? yes, and he often does, but he's usually a good sport about people expressing their discomfort with his frequently pervy jokes. sure, he might roll his eyes at you and call you a prude, but he'll stop going there with you. he'll respect that, and he'll even respect you for standing up for yourself like that.

there's a dark side to him, though. he is vindictive, and quarrelsome, and competitive in a way that makes him ruthless when it comes to any competitor. he was likely highly volatile and focused as a trainee, but loosened up once he secured his spot in the group. he's not one who'll refrain from mind games as a self-defense mechanism. as a lover of control, he has no issue controlling other people.

if you're on his good side though, he is fiercely loyal and protective. he's a ride-or-die friend, one whose love is intense and fiery, and as mentioned, it's not for the faint of heart, but it's unrelenting and powerful regardless.

however, if anyone of his loved ones ever betray or burn him, he becomes an exceptionally toxic enemy. you've been warned.

the thing about robby is that he doesn't want a lot of idol friends. he'd much prefer creating a network of "normies" who he can be himself around. he's new to the city, but he does try and get out. i'm shocked he hasn't had a clubbing controversy yet, but to be fair, he's very good at keeping himself hidden. maybe your muse is one of these "normies." he'll appreciate whose "human" and who keeps it real.

robby loves debauchery. he's a bad influence himself, but also appreciates those who are bad influences on him, too. he'd love some partners-in-crime to be debaucherous with.

it's no secret that he's a bit of a "freak" if you know what i mean. he's likely had some recent flings, and some fwbs, etc. he's got needs and he's gonna take care of them. if your muse is his type, this is an option, too.

he'd love other americans/foreigners as friends, too. he has a hard time fully embracing his korean heritage because he didn't really grow up celebrating it. being that he was so close to his (step)dad's family, who are mexican-american, he connects more with them on a cultural level. having others around who speak english and/or spanish would make him feel much more at home.

being as intense as he is, he's likely made a lot of enemies, too, especially in the entertainment industry. that, or even at fan-meets. he's not one that delivers great fan-service. he's called a "savage maknae" by fans because he's cutting and often cold. maybe your muse and him got into some sorta fought. anything's possible.

I think Sans is aware of Flowey as an existence, but assumes they’re just another monster, as Sans has the ability to change the color of his text (Blue stop sign joke as an example) and when he mentions the talking flower, the text is golden, similar to Flowey, but a couple of dialogue boxes later, when he mentions the Echo Flower, the text is Blue, though it could also be because of the Player’s knowledge

I think Flowey is hides from him because of how much he fears him lol, but I'm sure Sans must have seen him once in this timeline, Flowey's all over the place.

Regarding the text, yellow text just means "something important" I'm quite certain. And the blue texts is about yknow, the blue attacks, the blue echo flower, I don't think they matter that much in this case.

Also on another unrelated note people think the red text is only when Chara is speaking but other characters use red text as well. And the line that quite literally says "it's me, Chara" is in white text.

Texans are cranking on the air conditioning this week amid an unusually early heat wave, setting new records for electricity demand in the state, which surpassed 75 gigawatts on Sunday and smashed the 2019 record. Texas grid operator ERCOT projects it could approach that peak again on Tuesday.

But unlike previous extreme weather events in Texas which led to deadly blackouts, the grid is holding up remarkably well this week. Several experts told CNN that it's owed in large part to strong performances from wind and solar, which generated 27 gigawatts of electricity during Sunday's peak demand -- close to 40% of the total needed.

"Texas is, by rhetoric, anti-renewables. But frankly, renewables are bailing us out," said Michael Webber, an energy expert and professor at the University of Texas at Austin. "They're rocking. That really spares us a lot of heartache and a lot of money."

Despite the Texas Republican rhetoric that wind and solar are unreliable, Texas has a massive and growing fleet of renewables. Zero-carbon electricity sources (wind, solar, and nuclear) powered about 38% of the state's power in 2021, rivaling natural gas at 42%.

This is a relatively recent phenomenon for the state.

"Wind and solar would not have been available in years in the past, so the growing capacity helps to alleviate reliance on natural gas and coal," said Jonathan DeVilbiss, operations research analyst at the US Energy Information Administration.

Not only have renewables helped keep the power on during a scorching and early heatwave, they have also helped keep costs low. Prices for natural gas and coal are high amid a worldwide energy crunch, but renewables -- powered by the wind and sun -- have no fuel cost.

"Because the price of wind and sunlight hasn't doubled in the past year like other resources, they are acting as a hedge against high fuel prices," said Joshua Rhodes, an energy researcher at UT Austin.

PEAK DEMAND DURING PEAK HEAT

Texas and other states have been sweltering in triple-digit temperatures and dangerous heat indices. Texas state climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon told CNN that San Antonio has been a particular hot spot; it recently hit 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit, setting a new pre-July record.

Texas is used to heat, but this year they're "getting August weather in May and June," Webber told CNN.

Experts said the Texas grid was built to withstand extreme heat moreso than the extreme cold brought by the deadly 2021 winter storm. But with the state now experiencing August-like temperatures in early June many questioned whether the Texas grid could withstand the longer, hotter summers fueled by climate change.

"As opposed to a winter storm, we were built for three months of 90-plus [degrees]," said Caitlin Smith, head of regulatory policy and communications at Texas-based battery storage company Jupiter Power. "Were we built for 4 months of 100-plus [degrees]? There's some uncertainty there."

If the early spikes in temperature persist this year, it could stress out the grid and power plants, Smith and Rhodes warned. As well as the grid is working right now, that could change if this summer continues to bring unrelenting heat.

"It's like the human body; heat stress is cumulative," Rhodes said. "The body has no time to recover. Power plants are like that as well, they need some time to recover."

Rhodes added that renewables have been a big help during this early surge by taking strain off the traditional thermal power plants that use coal and natural gas to keep the lights on.

Human-caused climate change is linked to rising global temperatures and extreme heat. And while it's too early to tell exactly how much climate change is to blame for the current heat wave, it's safe to assume it is a factor, said Andy Dessler who directs the Texas Center for Climate Studies at Texas A&M University.

"It's 100% certain that climate change is contributing to this," Dessler told CNN. "Everything's getting hotter. August is getting hotter; June is getting hotter. It is hot and this is the future."

OVERCROWDED TRANSMISSION LINES

Even though Texas is an oil and gas giant, renewables -- and particularly, wind -- have long been thriving there. Texas generates the most wind energy in the country: In 2020, it produced more wind electricity than Iowa, Kansas, and Oklahoma — the next three highest states — combined, according to the US Energy Information Administration.

Solar has been a smaller portion of the state's energy mix than wind, but it is growing as well. Solar generated about 4% of electricity in Texas last summer, and is expected to grow to 7.2% this summer, EIA projections show.

Building out more solar will be important to deal with heat waves in the depths of summer, when wind speeds tend to drop, experts told CNN. That's because if it's really hot out, there's a good chance the sun is beating down.

But Rhodes and Webber pointed to infrastructure issues limiting the potential of renewables; Texas needs more transmission lines to carry energy generated by renewables to customers. Rhodes pointed to ERCOT projects showing higher solar numbers than what was actually being used; a casualty of over-crowded power lines that can't let the power through to consumers.

"About half of the solar that could be produced is not being produced right now because there's no more room on the lines," Rhodes said. "The numbers for renewables would probably be higher if we had the transmission capacity to move them around."

Wind and solar have natural variability as well; solar can't generate energy during nighttime, and wind turbines don't turn when the wind isn't blowing. That is spurring a big focus on developing more massive batteries that can store and deploy renewable energy when the wind isn't blowing, and the sun isn't shining.

"It does keep growth of renewables strong; it allows you to firm up that renewable capacity," Smith said.

I feel like peace on us is sort of a houlihawk episode idk

Yeah it definitely is!! Hawkeye and Margaret are the central pair in that episode! "Sort of houlihawk" is the best way to describe it because as usual for them, the romantic angle is there but it's mostly about how much they care about each other and how close they are.

If the A plot is Hawkeye's dash to the peace talks, the B plot is Margaret's divorce, so we're starting off right away with the two of them being in focus (while Potter, BJ, and the others are solidly supporting cast in this story). The parallel is really emphasized when they both respond to their problems by going out to kick things around the compound. And the one thing that snaps Hawkeye out of his somewhat self-centered spiral (note that I'm not saying self-centered in a negative way but he is very understandably focused on his own problem) is seeing Margaret's heartbreak.

Margaret is also kind of what motivates him to go to the front. I say kind of because of course his motive is stopping the war. But the way the scene is shot, it's seeing Margaret so upset that makes Hawkeye say somebody has to do something and drive off. It's the last straw, basically. And of course Margaret's divorce isn't unrelated to the war; she says herself "look at the place I picked to have a marriage." Margaret and Donald's marriage was probably ill-advised from the start and it only happened because of the war, and the thing that finally ends it is Donald running back to San Francisco. I don't want to defend Donald, but MASH pretty consistently takes the position that any American soldier leaving Korea and going back to America is good, and it's hard to blame Donald for wanting to get away from the war. It's easier to blame him for leaving his wife there and for lying to her about what he was doing. In any case, Margaret and Donald here kind of stand in for all the lives, loves, marriages, families that have been ruined by the war, and that's one of the things that sends Hawkeye off to the peace talks.

Hawkeye and Margaret finding each other at the red party does feel like putting a button on that storyline and the way Hawkeye supports her in her divorce is very sweet and demonstrates their closeness. I don't want to lean too heavily on continuity because MASH isn't that kind of show, but it's hard not to think about Comrades in Arms and Hawkeye being one of the few people Margaret really opened up to about how bad her marriage was. Margaret telling him she was taking Donald back in In Love and War during another of their bonding moments and Margaret telling him she was forgiving Donald in Comrades in Arms provide context for Hawkeye being happy for her when she tells him she's finally had enough.

They're also just so intimate during that scene. It's a pretty popular trope in houlihawk fics for them to hook up after that party, and I totally get why. Personally I think they're both too exhausted for sex at that point and I'm partial to houlihawk cuddling and literal sleeping together after the red party, but I enjoy reading fics that explore the idea of a hookup there.

So yeah! It's a houlihawk episode through and through, in that signature houlihawk way where it's sort of romantic and very about them.
