Tonight on the stream (7pm Pacific!), we're gonna get as far as we can in The Amazon Trail, the follow-up to The Oregon Trail! It's a bonafide edutainment classic, but how well does it hold up 31 years later? How many birds can we see? Is the fishing minigame any good because this was three decades ahead of the curve? We'll find out!

Sunday, October 1, 2023 - National Homemade Cookies Day
My all-time favorite cookie recipe comes from the Northern Exposure Cookbook. It’s Ruth-Anne’s oatmeal cookies. I jotted down the ingredients onto a post-it note years ago from my grandma’s copy of the cookbook. I usually add chocolate chips (not part of the original recipe). Sometimes I mix in a bag of trail mix. Today’s cookies got most of a bag of banana split trail mix - chocolate covered peanuts, dried banana chips, roasted cashews, dried pineapple, and dried cherries.
Happy National Homemade Cookies Day!

Wait - boating down the Amazon? I remember that game! It was called The Amazon Trail. I only got to play it because we got it from a cereal box. The fishing mini game was weirdly enthralling for kid me.

Fishing minigame, my beloved.....So true it was enthralling and I loved the sound fx for it. I was so bad at it.
I should have known it was a cereal box CD ROM game, those were always awesome. Thank you for unlocking these memories with me. I do think the arctic one is lost to time because it was on the internet and so long ago for some probably obscure competition or something and I only have the illness thing from memory.
Anyways anyone play the Aladdin CD ROM game that came with Kraft dinner? Or Candy Land? Good times.

Cat Backpack
Tumblr media
I've been eyeing various types of cat backpacks for awhile. You know, the ones that as plastic view or has a dome that sticks out, where you can bring your cat on the go so they can observe the outside world with you! Well, my hubby finally ordered one off of amazon! This one has a huge plastic view and the best part, it comes with that cute, purple hexagon blanket on the bottom! Lots of huge breathing holes for air. The sides zip open if you want your cat's head to stick out (I did that and Cosmo was able to climb fully out).
We took Cosmo out on the trail to hike and he loved it! He came out two days in a row with us and hoping he would wanna come out more. He's been a little apprehensive the past few days when we took the backpack out but I think with kitties, they are always reminded when we put them in some form of bag it means going to the vet! I'm trying to change that mindset! This backpack does not look anything like the vet bag. We put treats inside the backpack and he climbed in ate it and came back out, haha! Either way, I think it's a good investment in a cat backpack to bring the kitties out. I also have a cat stroller which I've had for years (I'll do another post on that next) which is also a good alternative to the backpack.

Quick post on what's happening in Atlanta right now
So there's this beautiful trail in Atlanta called the South River Forest Trail. As we all know, Atlanta Georgia is renowned for their tree cover and historic forests.
The City of Atlanta and corporations like Delta, AT&T and Amazon are funding a massive police training center that will destroy the forest.
Dubbed ‘cop city’ by many protesters, this will cost about $90 million  to build. This will be used to further militarize Atlanta’s police leading to more incidents of police brutality in the city.
On January 18th indigenous activist Manuel “Tortuguita” Teran was shot and killed by the police for defending this historic forest from destruction. Their reason? “He did not comply” (Tort went by They/them/it but report said “he”). Many protests have been going on in Atlanta to defend this forest.
Since Tortuguita's death, the situation has quickly deteriorated
This forest is very dear to me but I am unable to physically protest at the moment, so I am handing this off to Tumblr to spread awareness. Rebloging this may help this tragedy become part of national news instead of just an Atlanta problem.
