mr d is very funny in the show However. his first conversation with percy also just highlights how they've messed with the smelly gabe storyline in a way that is making me very nervous.

when percy met him in the lighting thief he immediately identified him as drunk adult = dangerous. a guy who would be sitting at gabe's poker game, saying nothing as percy is belittled and gabe demands his money. whether or not mr d would actually do that is irrelevant. it shows how percy is affected by gabe, that he hates him to the point that he would try to join the army or be homeless in new york before living alone with him after he thought his mom was dead. book percy would have had the joke conversation about dionysus being his dad and felt insanely betrayed that the kind sailor from sally's stories that he dreamed about had turned out to be someone just like smelly gabe.

but instead, gabe is just some guy. like he sucks but not to an extent that would drive them to kill him by the end of the season, at least not from what we've seen so far. talking to dionysus percy is just angry and confused about what's going on and upset by the loss of his mom, dionysus does not concern him at all. he is not especially upset by the idea of mr d being his dad except for his having ignored him up to this point.

like, the show is being kind of weird imo in terms of how the characters are reacting to the things that happen to them and having them react differently than they do in the books. and also we aren't in percy's head now the way we were in the books, and he often had very different internal vs external reactions to things in the books and i'm sure this would have been among them. but "can you help me find my father?" "actually i think i can... son. go get me a bottle of wine" would NOT have flown in tlt

Also also, since I seem to be incapable of shutting up, and because I haven't actually seen anyone else saying it:

Crowely offering/tempting Aziraphale with the ox ribs...it's a direct parallel to Adam and the creation of Eve. Adam's ribs are used to create his counterpart/lover/partner, and Crowley is doing the same thing. Up until now, he's had his suspicions about Aziraphale not being like the other angels, but in the Job flashback, we really see him testing the waters.

'Will you just do as you're told and watch an innocent man lose everything?'

'Will you notice what I did to the goats?'

'Will you trust me not to hurt the children?'

And then finally with the ribs: 'Are you like me? Do you take pleasure from all the things that humans are capable of creating? Do you see their potential? Aren't we the same?'

And Aziraphale accepts.

Which of course eventually leads to him lying to the other angels and his own epiphany about not quite being like the rest of them.

Naturally, it's not an exact correlation. Aziraphale already had those inclinations, so Crowley isn't really 'creating' him as his counterpart, but he is creating the opportunity for understanding and a chance to see the ways they already resemble one another. He's creating the possibility of their eventual partnership (romantic and/or otherwise).

unfortunately I have opinions about the ascendant astarion ending and I have been holding back from saying it. but it's a problem that applies to the whole game and it's been annoying me

what's actually weird about the ascendant "romance" scene is that the writer considers it a tempting option for the player. They wrote it to be bad, but they also think it's a fun and sexy option. Same goes for the haarlep scene which they also wrote that way because they find it sexy. Except finding this sexually appealing entirely hinges on the idea that the player is a submissive. So RIP to a scene that the rest of us could have found sexy because the lead narrative designer was a submissive. lmao

In this game you can have a scene where you have to kneel for a male character. But you can never have a male character do the same for you. (Halsin doesn't count. It's a vanilla scene, he is not submissive there and we are not even asking/telling him to kneel down) You don't get such options, not even if you play a drow female! RIP the number one reason for playing drow female to be honest. lol You can kneel and fully submit to ascendant astarion or fully submit to mizora or fully submit to haarlep or submit to lae'zel or submit to minthara. you can get whipped by abdirak or you can tell him "touch me and lose a hand" he even responds positively to this remark and yet the possibility to flip the dynamic doesn't exist. There is never an option where a male character truly submits to the player. RIP to a scene that would have been the opposite of the traditional dynamic. the potential that existed but they never used the opportunity

By the way, how interesting that Lae'zel is dominant but she is a woman so ofc you get the option to tell her “no you will submit to me”. You never get such switch options with any of the male characters... Obviously it's not ascendant where they could have made that an option. My point is that it's NEVER an option among so many male characters.

It's a cool idea that the bad ending in a romance means "I saw this character as a sex object" except it falls apart when the scene is very sexually unappealing to anyone who is more dominant leaning. If I see a character as a sex object then I would place them in sexual situations which are appealing to me. so the message doesn't quite work. because there isn't anything that I can selfishly choose for myself just because I like it and I find it sexy.

#it's the old traditional setup where male characters are never submissive. either vanilla or they are dominant. and no other options exist. #I just find it a bit funny how they seem oblivious to the fact that these scenes being “sexy”and tempting entirely hinge on the possibility #that the player has the same tastes but a LOT of us don't. and then these scenes aren't even remotely sexy #don't get me wrong it's cool to have these scenes in the game but there could have been something different as well #rather than the same dynamic multiple times. and if you are super not into that then you only have the vanilla options #meanwhile the subs get multiple ''fun'' scenes. kai winn’s relationship to religion really is just so interesting to me in a way I come back to sometimes like. she’s the leader of a faith and her gods will not speak to her. they will speak to other people in front of her and they will make a human from a society that did not interfere with her planet’s suffering their emissary but they will not speak to her. and I’m sure she can do a lot to justify it in her mind because she would have to be able to in order to keep any faith, and she has to keep her faith because she says herself that’s all she had in the camps, but that’s still a terrible thing to experience. and I’m sure a lot of people would argue that it’s not real faith, it’s ambition, but I think it’s some of both, and most importantly I think on the most immediate levels she believes it’s faith.

and like I think she and a lot of other bajorans have a reason to have a really complicated relationship with the prophets because the more demonstrably real and powerful they are, the more they’re willing to interfere in things like the dominion war, the harder it would be for a lot of people to justify to themselves why the prophets didn’t do anything to stop the genocide of their chosen people. I think the pah wraiths plotline ultimately fell kind of flat when it kind of boiled down to “dukat’s weird cult” and it was also a victim of the season’s pacing issues, but it has some interesting implications regarding this divide in the bajoran people, particularly when their religious leader’s faith is being so seriously called into question.

The fact that Eli gets to be at Pride with Travis after the man cheated on him twice but Carina is nowhere to be found really bothers me. Maya and Carina have been the queer couple on this show since Season 3. Despite their ups and downs, they are the most stable couple the show has had in general since then. How do you not highlight them as the couple in the Pride episode? How do you keep them apart when there's event celebrating the legalization of gay marriage? It makes no sense.

I'm really hoping the reason Maya is the only one not in her Pride shirt yet is because she's running late due to spending the morning with her wife and son and we get a cute, long, scene of them just basking in the happiness of being a family together. It's the least they can do in an episode like this. I would have preferred they have a scene after the events at the Pride parade because whatever Maya is going to witness, she should be able to talk about with her wife, but we'll see what happens. It just continues to be incredibly frustrating how there's always an excuse when it comes to Maya and Carina. They can never just have the moment they deserve.

As soon as Dawn climbs over the edge, Atlas runs to her, and they crash into each other with a fierce hug.

Atlas: I thought I’d lost you. Dawn: I’m here, I’m okay.

When Phoenix makes it up a moment later, Atlas rushes over to give him a hug as well.

Atlas: Thank you. Phoenix finds himself unable to speak, managing only a choked sob.

They all come together, and for a moment just stare at each other like they’re not quite sure what to do next. Then, Dawn breaks the silence and startles them all by screaming:

Dawn: Holy shit!

With that, they all slowly devolve into fits of laughter.

Kiyoshi: Alright alright, is everyone good?

They respond with various forms of yeses and nods as they wipe their eyes and catch their breath.

Kiyoshi: Let’s get moving then. We still have a ways to go.

And so, they continue on, making their way to the summit through the deep snow.

Hours later, the sun begins to set. Even through all their layers, the cold seeps into their bones, their extremities already numb. All four of them are exhausted, muscles and lungs burning. They hike in silence, each one focusing only on putting one foot in front of the other.

Just as Phoenix is wondering whether he’s going to make it, he feels Dawn pull on this arm.

His breath catches for a second thinking something might be wrong, but when he looks up she’s smiling. Her smile is so big and bright that his heart skips a beat and he can’t help but stare in awe.

Dawn: Phoenix, look! We made it!

I liked that we only got to see Trent look at Colin this episode. Having him observe Colin and then deciding what to do feels like a very Trent thing to do. Yes, Colin kissing Michael where anyone could see is bad if he wants to keep it a secret. And that's a conversation that I'm not getting into now. BUT, what does Trent actually know about Colin in terms of being out or not. He knows that Colin isn't out to the public, obviously, because it would have made headlines. But he doesn't know if Colin is out to his teammates and leaders. We know he isn't but Trent doesn't. He saw Colin and Michael kiss and he heard what Colin said in the latest episode. Yes, Colin brought Michael to Sam's restaurant and introduced him as his pal, his wingman. Trent could have heard that, he was sitting close by, but did he? I mean every shot we got of him he was clearly deep into his own conversation with various people at his table. Would he have picked up what Colin said, and remembered it? I don't think so.

So he observes Colin, because now he knows something new but not enough. And I know that a lot of you feel like Trent should warn him, tell him that he saw them kissing. But honestly, Colin is an adult who knows that there are no out players. He knows that it would make headlines, he knows he's not out to the team, and he still chose to kiss his boyfriend in an alley. Sure he could have been drunk or just wanted to kiss his boyfriend, consequences be damned. But he still chose to do it. So Trent has two choices, act like Colin doesn't have a clue what it's like being gay, telling him he needs to be careful because people can see him if he's kissing his boyfriend in public (which would honestly be condescending) or he doesn't say anything, he waits and sees how Colin acts, to see if he should mention anything to him. Trent has clearly chosen the latter option for now and we'll see where this goes.

There's also the "is Trent gay or not" aspect, I say he is. And if we're going with that assumption we also have to think about, is Trent himself out? Or rather, is he out to people at work. Because coming out isn't a singular event, you'll always come out. Every time you meet someone who doesn't know who you are, you'll have to decide if you're going to come out to them or not. I'm leaning towards him, not being in the closet, but rather him keeping his private life to himself and being open with friends and family. He's not hiding it and he's not ashamed, he just doesn't tell anyone, because it's not relevant when he's at work. And I say that as someone who loves reading fanfics where he is an openly gay sports journalist.

Where am I going with this? I don't know, I never know what my point is. BUT, I do think that we'll see similar scenes of Trent just observing Colin until perhaps the Amsterdam episode. And that's where he tells Colin that he knows and/or that he's gay himself. And then we might see Colin confiding in him and Trent might help him with a statement for when he's ready to tell the world. Because I do believe that he will tell the public. I don't know if it will be because he's been outed or he's doing it of his own free will. I don't really mind, I think they'll give us something that will rip our hearts out either way. But I am a believer in "gay mentor" Trent Crimm, giving Colin someone "in the business" to confide in.
