aging yourself up or down in your dr (+ dating)

I actually refrained from talking on this topic on my tiktok since I knew I was going to get chased off the app and didn’t see a point in talking about it on tumblr since everybody here seems to be more open minded and mind their own business, until I saw multiple posts a few days ago here, where the op were shaming people for changing their age or changing the ages of people in their dr

those people definitely came from tiktok and I honestly hope this post reaches them as I didn’t want to directly interact with them

I think one of the posts was about how adults age ‘minors’ in their dr to date them is problematic, which made me laugh, because how is it problematic if they’re both the same age in their dr?

and the sad thing about that post is that the op said that they’re aware how shifting works and all that, but still finds it problematic and hopes people that do that never shift which is just… girly I hope YOU never shift because you don’t deserve it for shaming people trying to live their lives

I’m not going to go into details about the og posts, but they still have the outdated idea that if you shift for a character that is much younger than you here it’s ‘problematic’. once again: how is it problematic if you’re the same age in your dr?

and then they hit you with another outdated take ‘it’s problematic because you find them attractive here’ which is ridiculous because of so many reasons

1.many characters (especially anime characters) don’t act or look their age. if your perceived a character as an adult initially then found out they’re a minor, I simply don’t care. ages in fiction never matter, if your mind perceived x as a certain age then they’re that age idc; 99.99% people are attracted to a character for who they are, not their age

2.many people had crushes on characters when they were younger or the same age with that character and still like them. let’s boo them that their crush on the character didn’t die and their fav character didn’t age, acting like you’re not going to be in their place in a few years

3.people don’t always script that an underage person here will be their s/o, it just might happen. I’m actually going to use myself as an example for this: so here I’m an adult and I’m also aroace which I dislike because I always dreamed of a fantasy novel like romantic relationship, so I’m straight or bi in most of my drs so I can date. in my jujutsu kaisen dr, all the people in jujutsu tech are adults because I don’t like teens or kids and don’t wanna hangout with them. in my 30+ drs I only have 3 scripted s/os which are all adults here. I didn’t script an s/o for my jjk dr, because I want to focus more on friendships and training there (but secretly hoped choso would pick me, a girl can dream ok); a few weeks ago I channeled multiple people from my dr (yuuji, megumi, nobara, gojo, nanami and geto) and I received normal messages from all of them. I expected all of their answers, except yuuji’s answers which had romantic aspects to them. that made me realize that he might have a crush on me and maybe we’ll even date in my dr or something? who knows, I didn’t think too much about it so idk

so now if a character that’s underage here likes me in my dr, am I supposed to refuse them or shift out? lmao you’re delusional if you think I’m doing that

4.people that have never experienced adolescence love here. a lot of people dreamed of having that sweet experience of teenage romance that disney and an insane amount of shows and movies love to push, but instead their teen years were filled with abuse and hate. why shouldn’t they shift to experience what was taken from them here?

ALSO let’s switch this around: why is okay for minors to date adults in their dr, but not the other way around?

So everything that happened around Oliviers was a lot of PR panic.

This is going to be LONG:

DT with family went to Cali for three weeks. That’s where all the weird far away pap shots and hidden videos were taken by GT. And the miserable pic of DT on the boat at Disneyland. If this was meant to prove that they’re *happily married* then it went down like a lead balloon. DT has never been this done before.

MS with family were sent to Disneyland at the same time, just a different one, and AL started her sudden “we are HAPPY!!!!!” attack - the thing about AL is that she always busts herself before anyone even says anything, excuses stuff before anyone blinks - so we were ready for something to go down because there was a sudden push from PR to show both families separate and “happy” (fucking idiots sent both to Disneyland though lmao).

And then we found out why.

Assembly was released, where Michael looked like he wanted to die as he was pushed, for the first time, to talk about AL. Well. It didn’t go great. He focused on the age difference and basically made it sound like they fucked up and had to make it work. The word “happy” was pushed in his mouth so he said it. Which linked us to AL’s “happy!!!!” theme and made sense of why she pushed it - PR knew MS wasn’t convincing especially since… automatically Michael switched the conversation to David. Again. And again. And again. And brightened up like a sunshine the second he did.

After that, a blind was released, talking about how the women are trying to sell a perfect Disney image while the men look happier when together or talking about each other. Blinds usually end up with huge damage control so all the drama was making sense.

AL lost her mind, she was suddenly shoving the relationship into everyone’s faces, answering fans about old photos, fighting with those who didn’t agree, fighting with Swedish media(!). It was embarrassing. MS as you can guess wasn’t involved at all. She was basically screaming on socials how they’re totally happy - because she said so.

DT and family came back from Cali. GT lost her mind too, suddenly doubling on her nastiness towards DT, to the point of promoting articles that were calling his expressions deranged and continuously crapping on the good articles. It was like she was taking all her frustration out on him publicly.

Then Oliviers happened.

The men didn’t meet on the red carpet. David was suddenly highly photographed sharing a hug with another man, of course not MS, this one was kept far away from him. The hug was photographed from every side, with all agents around them, and promoted on social media as bromance within three seconds. Damn not even antis bought this bullshit. David wanted to turn and go back but he was stopped and ushered inside, and there is a photo of him and GT sitting inside when it’s practically empty… with the agent talking to them.

MS arrived with AL after, her in a wannabe bride dress, him looking ready to slap some bitch.

At the end of the night there is a selfie GT posted of her and DT, there is also one of him with a fan - he looks unwell on both.

The ladies made the whole thing about themselves. GT called DT a loser. The next day, women angrily posted a group pic because fans reminded them that they’re here for the men.

A blurry video was released. Four of them standing together, DT pointing at MS, GT slapping her hand at him making his head snap towards her. MS looked aggravated.

GT’s nastiness continued online.

DT disappeared right after Oliviers. On his birthday, she posted a cold story with an old pic, which she followed with wishing another actress a happy birthday and saying she’s the fav tv wife for him, which was… questionable because her role was a toxic social media obsessed wife and his character was miserable in that movie. And funnily he said he related to this role a lot. She also added to not tell MS.

Well, the response came quick. A pic popped up on AL’s instagram wishing David a happy birthday and calling him Michael’s husband. The picture included Michael standing between cardboard cut outs of David and GT. And AL was holding a sign saying “winner” (not a loser).

Michael was seen prancing back to NT after that. He added a romantic song “Alone Together” to his playlist that day.

He also started missing stage door.

GT hasn’t posted anything suggesting any Birthday celebrations.

David remained nowhere to be seen. Michael suddenly stopped doing Nye too. They both disappeared.

A week later they re appeared together. At National Theatre.

DT took a pic with MS poster. Called himself a fanboy. Used a very telling song. Posted on GT insta. AL (Michael) reposted it saying “the best group pic we’ve ever taken ❤️”. Quite a dig at the shitshow of Oliviers and ladies withholding that group pic as the men came back with a bang. To me, they rebelled and that’s why they both disappeared until they could come back together, triumphant. GT is allowed barely any content of DT since and everything seems very calculated. AL is acting very reserved too. The ladies are mostly ignoring each other now.

And ever since the NT come back, both men have been more open about each other than ever before. DT talking about MS being in his life now, wearing matching bracelets, wanting to do GO until he dies… MS excluded AL from his interviews and podcasts entirely and talks about DT like everyone knows they’re together already. DT walks around NT wanting to be spotted, keeps on taking pics with all the posters. They’ve never been this free.

In my opinion, when PR tried to shove them in a closet, they disappeared because they rebelled. And triumphant came back together after negotiations that it seems they have won. And things have been very different and better for the men ever since.

Now these are my opinions so of course please feel free to look at these events and make your own judgment.

I feel like a lot of people don’t realize how important it is for people to see ships like lumity and huntlow coming from a brand like disney that’s known for having ships that really is known to enforce a lot of beauty standards on to kids. 

lumity is definitely not “on brand” with disney but i feel like so much of the appeal in it comes from that fact. luz doesn’t fit disneys standards for an attractive girl at all. (she is very pretty tho don’t get me wrong) whereas amity is definitely seen by a lot of fans to be very attractive and i think that makes the ship even more powerful. luz doesn’t fall for amity first, amity falls for luz. 

i don’t think i can even explain how much this meant to me as a poc. like omg the hot gay witch that everyone thinks is super hot falls for the dorky brown girl??? that alone makes me love the ship 1000x more. its amazing that kids get to grow up with a ship like that that really flips tropes and cliches and is still so fun and cute to watch. it really teaches young bisexuals and pocs that; hey! you can totally find a super loving healthy relationship where the other person respects you :) ive mentioned in the past that i used to feel really self conscious of my lips but luz helped my overcome that. it’s a small but very important thing to me. i also used to always be worried about how partners would take me being bi, again luz was so helpful in overcoming that fear. 

huntlow is another ship that i feel is incredibly important for reasons similar to lumity. a lot of people are probably going to hate me for saying that lmao but idk i still think it’s very likely to become canon. again like lumity the character the fandom finds to be the most attractive falls first

some people say that willow fell first but I feel like given the fact that hunters been the only one who blushes a lot more people are gonna go “oh hunter likes willow” rather than “willow likes hunter” (i mean i think willow likes hunter but it’s not as obvious so im not gonna talk about that aspect of this ship and it’s not relevant to the point im trying to get across.) 

a lot of people have also said that huntlow parallels lumity in how lot in how their interactions are written and i really agree with that. hunter has from the minute his face was revealed always been seen as attractive by the fandom. i feel like people only really started saying the same about willow when hunter started showing signs of having a crush on her. 

willow like luz isn’t the conventionally attractive disney princess type. she’s larger, east asian, and more quiet. still through hunters perspective we’re able to see these aspects of her along with how she can still be confident and an incredibly powerful witch. 

just like with lumity the show allows people to stop and be like huh luz is actually really pretty and super cute or huh willow is actually really gorgeous and talented. we’re able to see these characters from the perspective of the people who are in love with them. 

at first amity and hunter both don’t really understand why willow and luz are the way they are. hunter and amity have been raised with the perspective of having to be better than everyone all the time so when they meet luz and willow - two very powerful witches - they dont understand why they’re approaching things with the perspective they have. but slowly they’re able to see a different side of them which in turn allows the viewer to also understand luz and willow more. 

we see hunter and amity have this moment of realization; huh it’s actually okay to let people see a more friendly side of myself that’s more open with people and that doesn’t take anything away from how powerful i have the capability of being. 

I think that just the fact alone that luz is able bring out the best side of amity and the fact that willow is able to bring out the best side of hunter is really cute and admirable. these two standoffish teens with self hatred issues are just are suddenly super soft around these two super sweet cute girls. idk i just really like these two ships.

Yuumori Characters as Disney Princesses (cus I’m bored :))

I’m gonna preface this by saying that some of these you’re just gonna have to trust me on cus I chose them just from pure vibes alone and went from there. I also haven’t re-read/watched Yuumori in a while nor have I watched any Disney movies as of late so again, just trust me bro lmao. I came up with most of these at 2am so sorry in advance.

Liam - Aurora/Sleeping Beauty

So this one is mostly just cus they both ended up sleeping for a long ass time lmao. Liam was in a coma after the fall for x months and Aurora was cursed to an eternal sleep unless her true love kissed her awake (we won’t talk about the horrors of the original fairytale, I’ve tried to blank that out of my memory tyvm). They’re also both blondes…uh huh. Aurora doesn’t have much personality that I can remember other than being an animal lover and a good singer so…that’s just all I have lmao. I also just think Liam would make a very cute Sleeping Beauty lmao.

Albert - Jasmine

I did consider giving Albert Rapunzel cus of the whole locked away in a tower thing, but outside of that and having shitty mothers (Mother Gothel wasn’t even Rapunzel’s real mother but still) there isn’t much similarity personality wise? Idk. I picked Jasmine just cus they both come from rich families yet have no patience for other rich people. Jasmine also disguised herself and went into the town/city to pretend she was a normal person and that feels kinda Albert-ish? They’re also both smart and sarcastic so Y’know.

Louis - Cinderella

This one feels kinda obvious lmao. Both were raised by awful rich people who treated them like a servant, both were orphans and both tended to the upkeep of their homes. I do think Louis has more of a backbone than Cinderella, especially towards the end of Part 1 of the manga. Also again: both are blondes lmao.

Moran - Merida

So…this one is mostly vibes but also not. I think Moran has a similar wild streak to Merida and accidentally turning a loved one into a bear because he didn’t watch his wording when asking a witch for a spell sounds like something Moran might do? Bear (hah) in mind I haven’t re-read Yuumori in a while so I may be wrong on that. Also I guess bows and arrows were the guns before guns were invented so…so there’s that lmao.

Bonde - Mulan

Feels like another obvious one? They both disguised their genders to achieve a goal (although I did interpret James to be a trans man whereas Mulan wasn’t rly? Cus she went back to presenting as female after the war so idk). They’re also both pretty outspoken and don’t care for the roles society has put them in as women and actively break that stigma (Mulan by going to war and James by often dressing as men even before he transitioned). Idk I just like this one lmao.

Fred - Snow White

Again, this is mostly vibes. I’m pretty sure Snow White is the youngest of the Disney Princesses at 14 (Don’t quote me on that cus I could be wrong), so I feel like that parallels Fred being the youngest of the Crime Gang. Snow White also has a connection to animals which can also connect to Fred’s love of cats and nature in general as he does most (all?) of the gardening. I think they’re both pretty quiet and shy and that’s all I really have lmao.

Mycroft - Megara

Okay, okay, relax, I know Megara isn’t an official Disney Princess (she SHOULD be, but whatever), but she’s the only one I could really see as being similar to Mycroft? Ya’ll are really just gonna have to trust me on this one lmao. I just think they’re both pretty independent and cynical and sarcastic and just…I really don’t know the vibes just fit, I can’t explain it.

Sherlock - Ariel

OKAY👏HEAR👏ME👏OUT. This is the only one I’m 100% confident on BSJDNKFS. They both have a niche obsession that they collect items from, Ariel with humans and Sherlock with Mysteries/Crime. They both make massive life changes for the man they love (a man which, by the way, they barely knew lmao), Ariel in becoming human and Sherlock by leaving his life, family & friends behind to live with Liam in New York. They also almost died to achieve this, Sherl from leaping off a goddamn bridge to save Liam and Ariel by her deal with Ursula. IT WORKS, I’M TELLING YOU.

not really unique but maybe some kind of actors/movie star au where max and charles are the two it boys of hollywood and therefore have always been pitted against each other as rivals. however, they’re casted together in a movie with an esteemed director that neither want to refuse. then they fall in love woopty doo !!

ok so to keep the past tension, for sure they were on like. a Disney channel show together growing up. pit against each other like Zendaya and Bella Thorne.

they were playing best friends and had amazing chemistry, but secretly couldn't stand each other. Max is definitely a repo baby, whereas Charles is so pretty he gets a lot of opportunities. they both resent each other because of it: Charles thinks Max gets everything because of his dad, whereas Max thinks Charles get everything because he's pretty.

eventually they have a big fight on set, and the show gets shut down because of it. maybe they get physical - maybe they just refuse to work with each other anymore

Max is the first one to rebuild his image - he works and works on as many movies as he can, trying to only be in Serious Dramas so people know he's a Real Actor

whereas Charles kind of disappears from acting for a while and instead turns to modelling

cut forward, they're both very successful in their fields. Max already has an Oscar, whereas Charles is getting brand deal after brand deal

and then, like, Scorsese or Greta Gerwig or somebody incredible goes to Charles and pitches a movie to him

some kind of really angsty, dramatic, gay love story set on the Italian coastline (heh heh, just because I think I'm funny, let's make the movie be based on Give Me That Fire lmao) (even though that was set in London) (lets make it GMTF but set in a restaurant on the Italian coastline lol)

anyway so Charles turns them down at first and says he doesn't act anymore, but Greta Gerwig is like, "No, I want you in this part, and you can have first pick of your co-star."

So Charles, "I want Max."

Max is tentative at first, doesn't want to work with Charles, but Gerwig says that Charles picked him and so Max ends up agreeing

it's super awkward between them at first, so they end up having to do some bonding exercises to try and ease the tension, and while they do it they apologise to each other for their behaviour as kids and congratulate each other on their successes

filming is much smoother from there, and Charles and Max end up admiring each other's skill

Charles appreciates how hard Max works, and how much more he achieved that his than his father, while Max is impressed with how good Charles still is even though he hasn't acted in years

they end up kind of being like ... "Hey, you're not too bad?" and spending a lot of time together outside of filming

maybe Charles spends a couple nights in Max's hotel room

they film that really intimate sex scene from GMTF and afterwards they're both so emotionally spent but also a little turned on from the tension and the kissing, even though its a Film Set and they're not actually that sexy to film

Max absolutely falls in love first - he realises what he's feeling for Charles, and pines hopelessly from a distance

meanwhile Charles is terrified of being Known and Knowing Somebody, and he can't let himself fall in love

but Max is so sweet and charming and the more time they spend together they more he realises just how wrong he's always been about Max

anyway, by the end of filming they're both hopelessly in love but neither have admitted it

they part ways, Charles going back to modelling, Max moving on to his next movie, and then they're reunited for the press tour

they end up confessing their feelings during the tour and having an intense affair, but at the end of it they decide to go their seperate ways because of how busy they both are ... though obviously neither of them actually want to seperate. they just think the other person does.

anyway the movie comes out and everybody loves it, they praise their acting and the range of emotions Charles showed and how well Max embodied this lonely chef and the chemistry the two of them had and how well it told the story of these people who had been in love and who's relationship had fallen apart, but then who had wanted to try again anyway despite it (yeah obvi it's a metaphor for Charles and Max's relationship in this universe too haha)

it ends up getting nominated for a bunch of Oscars, and Max gets nommed for best actor and Charles for best supporting actor

idk if Max wins but Charles definitely does

and at the after party they find each other and it's just inevitable, really, that they'd kiss again

anyway from there they'd basically just make it work, because they admit they're in love and want to give it a go, so they do

Max keeps acting, and Charles gets to choose between modelling and acting, whatever he wants. idk exactly how it would end aside from them being very happy!

50. Disney Princess Film AU from this prompt list

No one prompted me for this– BUT I’d been talking about this with @purplesallthewaydown and then it was there as a prompt. So El, clearly I need to unleash this into the world.

Enchanted AU lets go– please….suspend EVERY disbelief you have. This will not make sense lmao

Daniel is Giselle, he’s in Monaco from the fairy tail land of Perth. He got here because he was driving around in his truck, singing a happy song and following a horse that just wanted to run and they ended up at the airport. The birds told him that the planes make humans fly like them and he thought that was as good an idea as any.

So he’s in Monaco, he’d been walking around, bumping into things because he’s doing tourist thing where you look up instead of in front of you. He comes to the pier and he’s tired, the birds in Monaco aren’t as helpful as the birds back home and he wants to go home. He’s singing an almost sad song and bumps into Max who is doing his normal daily run. They fall to the ground, Max atop Daniel naturally.

They’re both stunned, surprised, speechless. Max scrambles up and helps Daniel to his feet.

“Are you ok? Did I hurt you?” Max is checking Daniel over, making sure his oversized sweatshirt maybe didn’t get ripped or his knees didn’t get skinned since he’s wearing tiny shorts. He clocks the bright tattoos on Daniel’s thigh, maybe they glow a little with Daniel’s inner Disney Princess happiness?

“I’m ok. I just don’t know where I am.” Daniel smiles sheepishly, embarrassed. He hadn’t been able to find many other wild animals and the birds really weren’t helpful here.

“Oh? Where are you from?” Max is now concerned, because who truly gets lost nowadays with technology where it was.

“I’m from Perth!” Daniel says proudly, a wide smile on his face. “The birds guided me.”

Did his tattoos glow a little brighter?

“That’s in Australia right?”

Daniel shrugs in a very uncaring way. What did he know about geography when he enjoyed his days basking in the sun by his family’s ranch or hiking in the mountains or by the beach swimming with the mermaids?

Max presses his tongue behind his teeth as he thinks of what to do. Daniel gets distracted by a butterfly and starts following behind it dreamily, maybe she will guide him back home. He almost bumps into another jogger when Max grabs his arm and pulls him back into his space. They both blush.

“I’m Max.”

“Daniel!”

Max takes Daniel home, because it's the only logical next step. He can maybe book him a flight back to Perth if Daniel has no family around. It's a lot in terms of being a good samaritan, but Max is loaded and single and lives alone in the city and a race car driver on time off.

So they're in Max’s flat and he pulls out a laptop to check flights maybe, and gets distracted by Daniel literally curled around Jimmy and Sassy. He was talking to them softly and they were purring up a storm. Max has never seen this happen in his life. Sassy hates people and Jimmy takes 5 business days to allow pets.

He’s floored, flabbergasted, flummoxed. Just who was this guy?

Daniel is supremely happy, Jimmy and Sassy are wonderful hosts. They’ve told him that the birds here are in fact unfriendly, and mean. They told him that Max is wonderful but he’s often not home so they sometimes get lonely, but they’re happy together. So he starts singing to them, a lovely little ditty about nutsacks and ball hair and they cuddle closer to him. His tattoos glow brighter and the ship sails move a little because that's what they do when Daniel is happy.

Max is just staring at this all happening on the floor by his patio doors– what the actual fuck is going on?

So since Daniel is distracted with the cats, Max googles about any magic in Australia. And apparently…there's a lot. It's a utopia for magical creatures and some humans that live there are gifted, it's usually a good way to tell if someone is a good person or not– how strong their aura and aptitude. Considering Daniel was glowing and talking to his fucking cats, Max thinks that an ok sign.

“Uhm, Daniel?”

“Yes Maxy?” Daniel sung back, looking up from the cats.

“How did you get here?”

“Oh! It was like the most amazing thing!” Daniel clambers up and breaks out into song about how he had been gossiping with the horses and alpacas and then they went for a ride and the birds told him about the ‘airport’ which was a very weird place with birds for people. And he got on a big bird plane and fell asleep and got snacks and slept some more.

And while this is happening, Max is sat in his couch wide eyed as this man dances around his apartment, singing. And birds started hovering on his patio, unable to do more because it's screened in. Daniel flutters to a stop on the couch beside him and hugs Max close because he’s so happy and Max has been so nice to him. And his mom said that sometimes people want to try to take advantage of him but Sassy and Jimmy promised that Max is good, and he believes them.

And Max is….poor thing. Max is completely out of his depth. He’s thunderstruck. But there's a part of his brain that wants to keep Daniel, and he doesn’t know what to do.

1. Logan/Quinn from Zoey 101. The OG teenbop enemies to lovers omg I stan. When they pronounced their love for each other at the season finale at the prom, screaming crying throwing up. The way they get together is so random lmao he calls her hot and they kiss then Michael rides by on a horse like what? But the pay off and ending was so *chefs kiss*

2. Courtney/Duncan from TDI. They were everything to me and Cartoon Network ruined it. First season the bantering, the flirting. When I tell you I was hooked. The scream I scrumpt when they finally kissed (also me didn’t she just throw up but whatever I guess) then she left and it was all downhill from there.

3. Rose/Jake from ADJL. The Romeo and Juliet of this paring needs to be studied. They were so down bad for each other. When Jake found out she was huntsgirl then when she found out. Their first kiss being right before she had to ‘kill’ him for sport in an arena. Her giving up her life to keep him and his family safe, him giving up her to keep her safe. 😭😭😭 they don’t make em like they used too

4. Draco/Harry from HP. The ship that started it all. Before this I’d never read a slash fic before is it even still called that. Anyways this right here is my longest going ship I’m still into only reason it’s not higher is that I love the other ones more. You get so many variations of this, from the super toxic fic, to the I’ve always secretly loved you, to the meet up after the war is over and so on and so forth. Ugh I love it. There’s like 50,000 fics of them on a03 and I know I’ve read like half at least 🤣

5. Zuko/Katara from Avatar. My second non canon ship on here. When I tell you I was obsessed with them. Sigh then I discovered other fandoms and by the time I came back to them I was just done. Which I think comes fromm just not being as much of a Zuko fan anymore. This ship was gold, tho, I mean come on I’ll save you from the pirates how can I not. The way he jumped in front of her (obviously he’d do the same for everyone but like listen it ate down bad) the whole crystal caverns episode was fuel to the fire, the writers/creators knew what they were doing

6. Jake/Miley from Hannah Montana. Another OG omg she hated him so much. The flirty the snark then they had to kiss and both of em were like oh hot damn. 8. Chad/Sonny from Sonny with a Chance: one thing about Disney they ate down when it comes to enemies to lovers, or annoyance to like, whatever you wanna call it. Chad Dylan Cooper and Sonny omg the drama was beautiful, they hated each other so much and when they started dating I bout passed out. Lol they were so hilarious together I miss it.

9. Raven/Beastboy from TT. This and next two aren’t super enemies to lovers, more live annoyances or belligerent sexual tension. But I really was obsessed with this, like I was the girl reading Terra bashing fics 😭😭 they were so cute, the Beast Within was ship gold, Nevermore, the fact that she holds onto to the penny he gives her when she ‘dies’ and oh he only turns into the Beast again to protect her from Slade and never again. Beautiful

10. Jimmy/Cindy from JN. They may have only been nine but sheesh the rivalry to lovers or in this case crushes was intense. Cindy was down bad since day one but she hid that shit so well. The Valentine’s Day episode still makes me giggle like a kid. And the last episode where they’re legit just straight up flirting with each other I can not. When she almost confesses when he’s the orange hulk. So cute.

ah man, think it's time to try to summarize everything and apologize LMAO;; ty for asking though, i should've made things less confusing! this will be a Pretty lengthy post for irl context/backstory and "actual au" info so be ready if you want to read everything!

(for starters, the title's just a pun on the philosophical phrase "ghost in the machine" interpreted Literally and taking inspiration from clay in ac revelations, since he Was a ghost in a machine and jokingly called "my guardian angel" by des, haha)

the short version: basically, "ghosts in the machine" is what i've called the au(?) where i just doodle silly "artist talking to her art muse(s)" stuff like these kinds of comics instead w me,, the ""art muse"" is whatever i'm hyperfixated on (currently desmond, the assassin brotherhood as a whole, and alex/prototype lmao):

the Full LONG version: when replaying prototype and ac awhile back, i also posted fanart on LOFTER (china’s local version of tumblr) and made a mainlander mutual/friend who drew fanart too, like her oc w the assassins in an animal shapeshifter 刺客信条乙女向 (assassin’s creed otome) au! as i’m vietnamese-american and she’s chinese, we use translators and send pictures/doodles to talk about the games and our days, and when i was replaying prototype, she started ac2 too and sent me this as commentary:

from there, whenever we’d text or send pics/art, it became a running joke of sorts to also include our ""game companions"" like that fanfiction thing of “author’s note where the author and fictional characters comment on the situation and/or talk to each other”, and my doodles also became us or our computers being accompanied by them LMAO;; that’s pretty much the origin and setting of the particular doodles; just the daily shenanigans and art struggles of an artist (me and her) talking to their art muses (characters from special interests) haunting them and their computers

as for the "supernatural" aspects, at some point desmond and alex got drawn an as angel and devil because i’ve had ridiculous “protected by a guardian angel” luck lately like surviving a car crash unharmed, they’re my favorites and associated with me, the motifs match the duo, etc, it's not really that deep and/or for a "Lore Reason";;

likewise, the brotherhood got drawn as ghosts to emphasize the “we/our computers are haunted by them” joke more, along with how my friend and i are both asian and used to like ghosts and ancestral worship casually being a part of our lives already LMAO (ig in the context of the au then, they’re basically desmond’s ancestral spirits disney-mulan-style that freeload off of his vietnamese protectee (me) for both spiritual veneration or "worship" like staying relevant in this modern age via fanart)

for example, i'm also considering drawing like altair, ezio, connor, and edward as the vietnamese four holy beasts just to play around, things like that! there's no special lore reason aside from just personal thoughts and "oh that'd be fun to draw", they just thematically fit well being four prominent “legends” and being desmond's ancestors, etc,, haha

at the end of the day, "ghosts in the machine" are just silly shenanigans of me drawing what's on my mind, from who/what i'm hyperfixated on (aka impromptu art muses for me), any thoughts/frustrations i have w daily life or drawing stuff,, and "hm this sounds cool, i could draw this design or Cool Thing" stuff. it's not really an au persay (plus i still really cringe and feel self-consciously wary about the embarrassing self-insert aspect of all this, help lmao), it’s just,, just silly personal scribblings that are kind of sharing an inside joke to everyone now, but i'm happy to know people still humor these silly drawings and are curious if there's more to it, thank you!

“baby, that’s your tenth sneeze in a row.” you mumbled with a pout, your eyes sad at the sight of your loving boyfriend curled up under the yellow fuzzy blanket on your living room couch. his eyes and nose red, hair a mess as the pile of tissues surrounding him grows bigger and bigger with each passing minute. “you should’ve never gone to that cat cafe, now look at you.”

he shakes his head in disagreement as he blows his nose into a soft tissue, placing it into the trash bin on the floor but missing it by a mere inch. “but they’re too cute, i couldn’t help it.” he reaches over to the coffee table with an old man grunt, snatching his phone and pulling up a video of the cat he took. “look! see!”

you walk behind the couch, leaning over the back of it to have a closer look at his screen as you watch him scratch the cat lovingly. suddenly you watch him stop scratching under the cat's chin, the creature then licking at jiung’s hand looking as comfortable as ever in his presence. the short video brought a smile to your face, making you wish you’d be able to own a pet cat without having to deal with the repercussions of an allergic boyfriend.

“what was the cat's name?” you questioned, looking down at him as he scrolls at the few pictures of the cat he has saved in his camera roll.

he looks up as if to recall, but shifts his body to face you and shrugs. “i forget, i’ll ask theo late-“ he stops mid-sentence to sneeze into his hoodie sleeve, making you take a step back to escape his germs.

“i’ll tell the guys you can't make practice tonight.” you say as you walk towards the kitchen to text them from your phone. jiung groans in the back, telling you he feels perfectly fine between tiny sneezes. “baby, you can’t leave the house like that! especially not in this cold weather.” you press the send button on your screen as you walk back over towards the door frame to lean against it.

when you finally look up from your screen, you see a defeated jiung making dramatic grabby hands in your direction. “can we at least cuddle and have soup?”

you laugh at how soft he’s being, liking this different side of jiung a little bit. sure, he shows his vulnerable side to you more often than most people since you’re his significant other but this is different. “yes, but no kisses. i don’t want to get sick.”

“i’m not sick it’s just allergies!”

“i don’t want your germs.”

“we’ve done much more than kiss and now when i’m sick all you think about is my germs?”

rolling your eyes as his laughter fills up the background, you shuffle back into the kitchen and make two bowls of chicken noodle soup with your matching tumblr cups full of ginger ale. you weren’t feeling sick per say, but you didn't want to eat something jiung wasn’t able to. on the food tray, you place two allergy pills and a water bottle before making your way over to the couch next to your boyfriend.

“here, eat up.” you say as he sits up fully, tiny sneezes following after one another.

for the remainder of the day, you both cuddled on the couch eating soup and watching disney films as his head lay in your lap. as night approached, you heard him falling in and out of a deep sleep. the heat in your cheek rises as you hear your name pass his lips in his sleep almost inaudibly, turning the corners of your lips into a small smile. as much as you hate seeing your boyfriend suffer from cute tiny kitten creatures, you love taking care of him when he’s feeling temporarily physically weak for the sole purpose of enjoying taking care of him the way he always tends to take care of you.

THE RANT

listen. i am an Alice in Wonderland person. that is my thing. i love everything from the novel. i love the merch. i was Alice at least four halloweens when I was little. picture the thing you love the most of all the things and multiply it by ten and that is how I feel about Alice in Wonderland.

SO YOU CAN IMAGINE THE GRAVITY WHEN I TELL YOU I HATE DISNEY ALICE IN WONDERLAND

let me tell you why.

starting off with the animated 1951 version, i personally don’t like that they focused so much on like. giving it a plot. like in the original nothing bad happens, she just is trying to get home and keeps getting stopped by these eccentric little people (she does get chased by the jabberwocky in Through the Looking Glass but that’s like the not even part of this movie so it doesn’t count.) like part of the whimsy of the original novel is that it’s just like her meeting all these silly little people on her way home and there’s a whole bunch in the 1951 that’s like put there specifically to move the plot along. which i get, for what they’re trying to do like i do understand it’s an animated movie for children but like. come on guys you defeated the whole purpose.

Now, as for the 2010 Tim Burton version, I love the aesthetic and the vibe, and even the story and I wholeheartedly believe that that version of Alice did more for feminism than all of the you-can-tell-i’m-a-strong-female-character-because-i-don’t-have-a-love-interest bullshit disney’s been doing the past five ish years combined. however, it’s like. not Alice in Wonderland. like it fits in the same category in my head as a really well done fanfiction because yes, its Alice in Wonderland characters but no it’s not Alice in Wonderland.

But of course, my biggest, nastiest critique of both versions is (*deep breath*) the goddamn Queen of Hearts.

If you know like anything about like Alice in Wonderland *lore* you know that the story is like… not an allegory per se but basically it’s supposed to exaggerate how children are sometimes treated by adults.

Like asking stupid questions (the caterpillar) or talking in circles about nonsensical things (the hatter) or giving conflicting or unhelpful directions (the cheshire cat) or telling dark/pointless stories (tweedledee abd tweedledum)

Which brings me to the Queen of Hearts.

Both Disney versions depict my beloved Queen as the main antagonist- the Bad Guy™️ if you will- but the problem is that in Lewis Carroll’s novel, she actually isn’t. The antagonist is the jabberwocky, which is a personification of Fear. The Queen of Hearts is just another crazy adult who says things that Alice doesn’t like. If we want to interpret the character into Alice’s real life, she might be a strict teacher who hands out punishments too generously (off with their heads!) or a governess who is set on dictating every single instant of her life. It’s an exaggeration! The Queen of Hearts is NOT the Bad Guy™️!!!!

ahem anyway that drives me actually bonkers if you can’t tell and i know it’s not that important but i wanted to say something anyway lmao so there you go

Ok bc it’s popping off on Twitter I’m gonna give my two cents on the galactic starcruiser thing bc I worked at disney when it was first starting out. Also a disclaimer I haven’t watched Jenny Nicholson’s video and I’m probably not going to. It’s just not my thing.

First and foremost I could have worked there. They opened up applications when I did the college program (about 25 slots if I’m not mistaken?) and were looking for folks to do housekeeping and other similar roles. I chose not to do that because it would have required you to extend your program and go through training again and I was unwilling to give up my position at Pirates and I also yknow, had to finish college.

This was the opening team for the hotel. They likely went to the college program for people because we were paid a few dollars less than part/full time people and were not provided benefits but that’s just my theory because we were already being used as scab labor across the parks. They also did not offer us the opportunity to be on opening team for anything else at the time, only starcruiser, even though other attractions were opening when I worked there (both Ratatouille and Guardians pulled full time people from pirates for their opening team).

I knew one person who worked there, and one person who was offered a position and turned it down. The person who worked there was my coworker’s roommate, who got a housekeeping role. He was already in housekeeping so like it was an easy transition. He said it was really cool, really immersive, but could not see how they could get people to spend that much money on it. The person who turned it down was not college program, he was a bartender. He’d been working in his current location for years and is a staple of it. I’m not gonna say where but it’s a real nice spot. Disney went to him and offered him a position bartending for starcruiser and he said no. He said that he wasn’t willing to give up what he had to work somewhere unproven, somewhere that might not last. And he was right.

I actually still have the emails from Disney about applying for starcruiser they’re all super vague and filled with trademarked scifi speak which I believe Nicholson talks about in her video as feeling super unnatural and forced. Because it is. So they’ve been doing that shit since the beginning lmao. If anyone would like to see the emails lmk I’ll show you.

I never got to actually see starcruiser, my knowledge of it only comes from the limited operational backend I saw in 2021, so I don’t know how much of it was relevant to the end. It was all just pretty weird and while the people who worked there were passionate, it was basically doomed to fail because let’s be real it’s a themed restaurant dressed up as a hotel.

Like, I can totally see Persephone in Hades’ body being all sweet and soft and shy (which is highly unusual to see from Hades unless he’s with Persephone lol) while Hades in Persephone’s body has a fast-talking, sleazy, and super casual personality and everyone’s shook because Persephone doesn’t act like that at all. Like, it’s so odd to others seeing them act like each other when they don’t know the context of their situation. Also their voices don’t change, so Hades sounding all sweet while Persephone sounds…like Hades lol is just so weird and off putting.

And then like, maybe they have to keep their body swap a secret so they aren’t causing a big commotion about it so until it gets fixed they have to pretend to be each other and it’s harder than they realize because (despite getting along so well as a couple and as friends) they’re total opposites in personality.

I also love the idea of them both just kinda admiring each other in general lmao, like Hades is just like…in love with himself because he looks like his wife now and then he just goes on to admire himself (or Persephone as himself since she’s now in his body) because the dude can honestly be so full of himself sometimes, so he thinks he’s gorgeous too lmaooo (it’s pretty much like that scene from Scooby Doo 2 lmao). Meanwhile, Persephone’s freaking out because she looks like her husband and (as much as she loves and admires him) she doesn’t want to be stuck as him for the rest of eternity. And Hades is just really cool about the whole thing and doesn’t even mind (however, he too doesn’t want to look like his wife for the rest of eternity, so he wants to get this whole thing fixed at some point because after all, he’s got an underworld to run).

I also like the idea of them struggling to use and control each other’s powers. Like, Persephone can’t stop accidentally setting stuff on fire and Hades either can’t stop growing stuff wherever he goes or he can’t grow anything but a tiny seedling/sapling lol

I had this stupid quote idea too lol:

Hades (as Persephone): *comes in with a bunch of shopping bags*

Persephone (as Hades): Where in the underworld have you been!? I’ve been looking all over for you!

Hades: I was busy!

Persephone: Doing what?!

Hades: Shopping!

Persephone: Hades!

Hades: C’mon, babe! You never let me spoil you, so I had to do it for you! Look, see I got ya some new chitons that fit you perfectly. I was thinkin’ maybe after everything is said and done you can personally show ‘em off to me. Huh? *winks*

Persephone: Hades…can you be serious for like, one second, please?

Anyways I kinda wanna write this as a fic, but like I said I dunno how I could logically explain it since their gods and I don’t think that kind of thing could happen to them/be a problem for them so yeah lmao, but I just thought I’d share the idea since I haven’t posted in a hot minute (I started a GREAT new job and I’ve been training, so I’ve been putting all my energy and time into learning how to do everything)
