First year Harry Potter: Mr. Sean, what is your favorite food?
Seventh year Sean, deadpan: Children.
Penny: Sean Ames, stop saying that to the first years!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bill: If anyone has any questions, ask me.
Barnaby: If a bear and a shark had a fight, who would win?
Bill: ... If anyone has any RELEVANT questions, ask me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bryn: [casually taking four stairs at a time]
Merula, falling behind: Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fu-

Ben: Come on, Tulip, please no, don’t… DON’T—
Tulip: *starts shuffling the cups*

R: we have your Brother.
Hecate: Which one?
R: What?
Hecate: Which brother?
R: Redheaded, won’t shut up...strange obsession with the effects of long term Transfiguration...
Hecate: Oh that's Sean! Yeah you don't have him, he has you.
Kit, cheerfully: Good luck!

Professor Dumbledore: I hope you three have a good explanation for this
Jae: We have four actually-
Fred and George: Pick your favorite!

Charlie: Remember! Curiosity killed the cat!
Tonks: Yes, but you forget that satisfaction brought it back. So yes, Fred and George, go find out if that thing can catch fire!
Charlie: You're a bad influence.
Tonks: And you don't know your sayings.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Angelica: Word of advice, new kid, watch out for Felix.
Kit: *nervous* Why? Is he... unfriendly or something?
Angelica: No - well, sort of, actually - but that's not what I mean. I mean actually watch out for him. He's constantly falling asleep on the floor
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ben: Hecate, I’m afraid.
Hecate: Just stay close to Ismelda
Ben: That's why I’m afraid.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Badeea: Wow, it's really quiet today.
Talbott: Agreed... It's quite nice actually.
Badeea:
Talbott:
Badeea: We should check on Tulip.
Talbott: Urgently.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bill: Seriously, Sean, how many people would you have killed if I’d asked you to?
Sean: That’s not important
Bill: I DISAGREE.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Penny: I think Victor is in trouble.
Chiara: Alright. Struggling to give a fuck, if I’m honest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tonks: Sorry Jae. I panicked.
Jae: So you pushed me out the window?!
Tonks: it seemed like the fastest way out!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sean onstage with the Weird Sisters: This next song goes out to the girl on the broom who keeps yelling. It’s called, ‘We Hate You Please Die.’”
Merula: Great! A song for me!

“Tangled up and tongue-tied...what have I become? Always got you on my mind -- you got me feeling dumb... And I’m tripping over my own feet, And I’m mad you got the best of me, Falling for you slowly...from a distance... I’m in love with someone who doesn’t know I exist -- I stare from afar -- in my hand, broken heart -- While I play pretend... I’m in love with someone who doesn’t know I exist, And it’s you -- yes, it’s true -- You don't even know it -- I can’t ever win...”
~“Invisible,” by Anna Clendening

“Thank you, Carewyn. You’re a credit to your house. …You know…I never really believed all those things people said, about your brother. He was a really good guy, from what I could see.”
“You knew Jacob?”
“Not very well…but he spoke very highly of you. I thought it was really sweet.”
~snippet of Carewyn’s Beginnings Act II, Part 2: The Black Quill in Gryffindor Tower

@ariparri’s meme charts post reminded me that I really haven’t done much content about Jacob and the girl who canonically crushed on him even in game, future Gryffindor Prefect Angelica Cole...so here we are! Angelica in her first year, sighing dreamily after the completely oblivious, way-more-focused-on-the-Cursed-Vaults sixth year Ravenclaw named Jacob Cromwell.
Although all three of the “Cursed Trio” -- Jacob Cromwell, Duncan Ashe, and Olivia Green -- ended up having their fair share of admirers, Jacob just as frequently intimidated his classmates as attracted them -- not because of his hot temper (which admittedly could get violent, if you threatened or hurt his loved ones), but because of his genius intellect and eccentric, hard-to-pin-down personality. For however passionate and brilliant Jacob is, he’s not a people person -- he lacks a lot of the insight toward human behavior that his boy best friend Duncan and younger sister Carewyn have, making it so Jacob can accidentally offend or upset people just by not properly reading their social cues. There have even been times where Jacob has completely missed someone’s sincerest attempt to flirt or ask him out altogether, leaving them feeling completely humiliated for their trouble. Combine this with Jacob’s frequent misbehavior and lack of interest in attending parties or in socializing at all aside from going out and doing off-the-wall things with his friends and the glaringly obvious sexual and romantic tension between Jacob and Duncan, and a lot of those people who did harbor any fond feelings for Jacob ultimately decided it was smarter to accept it was hopeless and try to get over him. It made it so many ultimately shifted their focus onto Jacob’s much more traditionally handsome, charming, and fashionable roommate, Gilderoy Lockhart. Hey, Lockhart might have been a complete tool and idiot compared to Jacob, but at least he wouldn’t make them feel quite so stupid for expressing their admiration for him.
One of those people who crushed hardest on Jacob, though -- as this picture demonstrates -- was Angelica.
Our future Gryffindor Prefect first collided with Jacob when she sat in at the Hogwarts Dueling Club’s first meeting that year, to watch her own older sister duel. Jacob wandered on in half-way through the meeting, only to thoroughly trounce everyone else there without breaking a sweat and then departing with an offhand “thanks!” for the fun he had.
Although the vast majority of the Dueling Club looked sour, Angelica was impressed, despite herself. Jacob hadn’t even used one traditional Dueling spell the entire time, instead using Switching Spells to quasi-“Apparate” around his opponents and melting the rubber in their shoes to stick them to the floor. It was then that her older sister told Angelica about Jacob and his pursuit of the Cursed Vaults with his friends, one of whom disappeared mysteriously the previous year. Intrigued, Angelica decided to tail Jacob and Duncan after spotting them sneaking around an abandoned hallway and ended up overhearing part of their conversation. Duncan’s voice had been very low, as if he’d been worried about being overheard, but Jacob at one point couldn’t stop his volume from rising out of pure emotion.
“They can’t get at me here, Ashe! Hogwarts is so well-protected, even old Moldyshorts hasn’t managed to get in yet. That’s the only reason they’re threatening Carewyn -- because she isn’t here, and because Mum can’t always be there...”
“Jacob -- ” Duncan started, but Jacob railroaded him.
"But I swear -- if they make one move toward my little sister, I won’t hesitate. I will kill every last ONE of those creeps before I let them touch Pip!”
Jacob stormed off down the hall, his fists clenched, and Duncan quickly pursued, still trying to talk him down. Angelica had had to hide behind a suit of armor in order to avoid them. Her racing heart was not just due to the rush of nearly being caught, though -- it was also a kind of girly admiration.
The “they” Jacob was talking about...could it be the Death Eaters? It had to be, right? The Death Eaters were the only people she knew of that could possibly be so dangerous, that they’d even possibly go after a child...and they were now threatening Jacob and his family? Was it because he’d been helping the teachers deal with the Cursed Vaults? Angelica had overheard Professor McGonagall wondering if the opening of the Cursed Vaults could be connected to You-Know-Who, somehow. And yet even with how terrifying the Death Eaters were, and how scared Jacob must’ve been for his sister’s safety...he spoke with such conviction, such fire. As if he would walk through the pits of Hell himself, just to keep his little sister from harm...
Angelica had never heard anyone speak so bravely about anything in her life.
From then on, Angelica found her heart skipping a beat every time she noticed Jacob in the halls. He’d frequently be with Duncan Ashe -- who definitely had spotted her eyeing his boy best friend a few times, to her utter chagrin -- but there were a few times Angelica caught sight of Jacob without Duncan in tow. Usually it was on his way to the Owlery -- Jacob both received and sent many letters, most of which seemed to be both from and to his mother. Angelica couldn’t help but swoon that bit more, seeing how warmly Jacob smiled while reading his mother’s letters. He clearly loved his mother very much too.
It was also clear how much Jacob loved his friends. Although Jacob had trouble discussing Olivia Green, the friend who’d mysteriously disappeared the previous year, with anybody, he was so open with his fondness of Duncan Ashe that it was hard to miss. Angelica tried to wean herself off of her crush by telling herself that Jacob probably had more romantic feelings for Duncan, however oblivious he clearly was both to it and to Duncan’s even more obvious affections for him. But the first year Gryffindor got the feeling that Jacob was so oblivious about how he felt about Duncan partially because of how deeply he loved everyone in his life. Jacob already seemed like the kind of person who threw his whole heart into everything he did -- would it really be that surprising if he likewise threw his whole heart into loving his friends and family? And that thought only made Angelica’s heart flutter more -- as well as prompted several fanciful daydreams about what it might be like, if he ever saw her that way. Then maybe he’d serenade her the way she’d once heard him sing for Duncan just before Christmas break that year, after gifting him a Muggle record by someone he called Barbra Streisand --
“Love...soft as an easy chair... Love...fresh as the morning air... One love that is shared by two  I have found with you...”
Jacob had only sung one of the songs from the record because Duncan wouldn’t be able to play it at Hogwarts -- but Duncan’s face seemed to relax noticeably, listening to his boy best friend sing. Angelica lamented afterward that Jacob wasn’t in the Frog Choir -- then maybe she’d have more chances to hear him sing like that again.
Much like many of the other people who nurtured crushes on Jacob, Angelica remained a silent observer, too apprehensive to approach. She did, though, finally muster up enough courage to at least send Jacob a Valentine that February. Unfortunately, that day Jacob had arrived at breakfast very late, making it so that the note ended up getting intercepted by Duncan instead, when the owl went searching for Jacob at the Ravenclaw table. Angelica felt like she wanted to melt away into the table when the sixth year Slytherin boy’s eyes swiveled over to her at the Gryffindor table nearby. They then hardened significantly with both reproach and something oddly territorial as he approached the much younger girl.
“Angelica, is it?” he said.
Angelica’s shoulders came up beside her head as she looked up at the older boy standing on the other side of the table. Duncan was taller than Jacob, and his gaze and posture were both rather intimidating. She opened her mouth, ready to stammer out a response, but Duncan cut her off.
“I’m sure you don’t mean any harm,” he said lowly, “but Jacob’s got a lot to deal with right now, and he really doesn’t have time to think about dating or romance...”
“I didn’t want that, I -- ” stammered Angelica desperately. Her voice then instantly seemed to trail off self-consciously. “I -- I just...wanted to let him know...how I feel...that’s all...”
Duncan gave her a bewildered look. “‘How you feel?’ What, that you love him or something?”
Angelica felt her cheeks burning as she looked down at her feet. Duncan brought a hand over his eyes and shook his head.
“Merlin’s pants...” he muttered to himself, before bending down over the table and speaking a bit more quietly. “Angelica -- if I may be frank -- Jacob doesn’t know who you are. You’re not in the same house -- you don’t share classes. You haven’t even spoken to him. How could anyone react to a confession based on that? Other than with discomfort? You don’t know him, aside from what you’ve seen as an observer. You don’t know his bad habits, his flaws, his pet peeves -- you’ve never once made him lose his temper, nor make him smile -- you’ve never known his protection, his loyalty, or his friendship. You’ve never dealt with him when he’s violent, nor supported him when he’s in trouble, nor comforted him when he’s cried. You don’t know his family or his past -- how could you, if he hasn’t told you about them himself? You don’t know his dreams -- his motivations -- his fears or his demons -- his greatest insecurities. His heroes, his idols -- the celebrities he’s fancied -- the people he hates more than anything. What he wants to do with his life, after graduation. You don’t know why he wears ripped jeans, or why he’s grown out his hair -- why he hasn’t joined the Frog Choir or the Slug Club or the Dueling Club, even after being invited multiple times. You don’t even know why he’s going after the Cursed Vaults at all! You don’t know his heart, nor his mind...let alone the soul that somehow surpasses them both.”
Despite both his harsh affect and his own pride, sincere pain and adoration for Jacob seemed to leak out from the corners of Duncan’s eyes and voice as he spoke. Angelica felt her heart crumple up like wet paper at the bottom of her chest, just listening to him.
“You don’t know him, Angelica. However strong your feelings might feel to you, they’re not even half so strong as they should be, to be called love. It’s hardly even ‘liking,’ considering you've only done it based on just what you can see from the outside. And sadly...for however brilliant his mind is and however unconditional his love for his family is...Jacob is not someone who would be able to articulate that to you.”
Duncan’s dark eyes became a little smaller upon Angelica’s face.
“Again...I’m sure you don’t mean any harm, and that you did this purely on some romantic whim. But please, for your sake and Jacob’s...just don’t.”
At that moment, Jacob finally stumbled into the Great Hall. His robes were even messier than usual and his face seemed very haggard and exhausted -- almost as if he hadn’t slept all night.
With a quick look toward the door, Duncan pocketed Angelica’s note in his robes and then immediately swept over to Jacob, bringing both of his hands onto his friend’s shoulders to help support him as Jacob forced on a smile and the two headed over to their table. Angelica herself watched the two boys leave, feeling rather nauseous with the effort of biting back her tears, before she grabbed her bag and ran out of the Great Hall altogether.
However mean Duncan had been, Angelica did come to see after a good cry that he was right. She’d never been brave enough to even approach Jacob, let alone talk to him, so of course she couldn’t really know him, aside from what he let people see. Of course Jacob wouldn’t know how to react to her blaring out a love confession seemingly out of nowhere -- Angelica hadn’t really stopped to think about that at the time, but as she got older, she would cringe, thinking about how such a socially inept, and yet still sincerely good-hearted person would react, to a love confession from a girl five years younger than him. Why, Angelica was closer in age to Jacob’s little sister than she was to him. And well, as much as Angelica hated thinking about it, she’d always known that her crush was doomed to be unrequited. She’d started fancying Jacob in the first place because of how courageous he’d sounded, talking about protecting his sister, Carewyn -- and yet the entire time she’d sighed after him, Angelica hadn’t ever felt enough courage to go up to Jacob and just say “hello.” And no lasting relationship could be built on that unstable of a foundation.
Following Duncan’s death and Jacob’s mysterious disappearance, most of Hogwarts found themselves thinking the worst of Jacob. It was kind of hard not to, considering just how many seemingly normal and innocent people around that time had been exposed as Voldemort supporters...and well, with Jacob’s suspicious appearances in Knockturn Alley and expulsion, it was widely theorized that he had to have been involved in something incredibly Dark. Many surmised Dumbledore wouldn’t have expelled such an academically brilliant student if he hadn’t.
As Angelica later told Carewyn, though, she had a lot of trouble agreeing with any of this. Even as she grew older and she took off the rose-colored glasses she wore while crushing on Jacob, Angelica still had the nagging feeling that Jacob was a sincerely good person, deep down. And a good person like that would never become a Dark wizard, Angelica thought to herself -- a belief that turned out to be well-founded, as it turned out, when Jacob miraculously reappeared two years after Angelica’s graduation, somehow looking just the same as when he’d disappeared. Even if Angelica knows she really didn’t know Jacob that well back then and her feelings for Jacob have since mellowed out to simple admiration rather than anything romantic, she definitely took some comfort, knowing that her old schoolgirl crush was truly as noble and brave of a person as she’d thought he was.

Juniper finds herself in a sticky situation with two of her friends. She thinks she has a perfect solution to appease them both while prioritising the search for Ben but what happens when her plans to stopped by factors beyond her control.
Warnings: none
September managed to turn to October before anyone had realised it. Orange Halloween decorations covered Hogwart's stone walls, as the regular desserts were pumpkin pies and juice. Juniper had slowly gotten used to having Quidditch on her schedule, classes, and practising her spells. Still, she wasn't used to Ben missing for over a month now.
Rowan had assured that -in theory at least- shrinking and enlarging herself should be safe enough, but when was anything in Hogwarts truly ever safe? It was all just madness, really.
"As a team, we need to establish balance before we begin practicing. To achieve this, we will be balancing on our brooms."
Juniper snapped her attention back to the Ravenclaw quidditch captain, Orion Amari. His balancing techniques were rather peculiar and continued to be so ever since Juniper had met him. Their training sessions typically started with broom balancing before they actually hit the actual practice.
"Thank goodness, it's over. That was longer than the last time." Skye looked relieved and ready to bolt out through the fields.
"Aye, no ma favourite part," Juniper remarked.
The girls only have spoken to each other during practice apart from a few words and their run-in outside the hospital wing.
"My thoughts exactly." Andre chimed in.
The new players had this zeal to prove their worth; it was proving themselves worthy of their position or demonstrating that they were just as talented as the regular players. Juniper played a more cautious game, hoping never to see the inside of the hospital wing again. Fifteen minutes into their practice, dots of green and silver entered the pitch.
"What's the Slytherin team doing here? Orion made sure to book the pitch for us." Juniper could hear the disgust from Skye.
They all flew down to see what the fuss was. The captain of the Slytherin team, Fallon Firethron, was arguing that they had scheduled this field the same day.
"I didn't know that the Slytherin team had reserved the field."
"Well we have it signed here by Professor Snape." The Slytherin captain waved the papers in front of Orion.
Orion didn't blink once. "I see; that is most unfortunate indeed but I already have Professor Flitwick's permission. I can suggest that you use the pitch after us."
The Slytherin captain scowled. Their fight went on, with him getting redder in the face.
"Blooming hell, do you think he'll burst at this rate," Andre commented.
"I don't care if he bursts or no. He's taking up too much of our precious time. We have a match against Hufflepuff in November to prepare for." Skye growled, her fist clenched so tightly around her Shooting Star that Juniper could hear the leather tighten from her gloves.
"Let's hope they leave soon," Juniper observed all the Slytherin players. One, in particular, was the tallest blonde girl. She caught the glare of her, which caused Juniper to quickly look away.
She noticed that Skye was glaring back.
"Do you know who she is?" Juniper whispered in Skye's ear.
"Aye, that's Erika Rath." Skye didn't bother lowering her voice. "Slytherin's beater. Be careful of her. She's taken out many quidditch players with a bludger."
Erika seems to have caught Skye's comment but refuses to react. Juniper struggled to get a read on Erika. She decided that Erika was the least of her worries instead of that pesky Slytherin Captain.
After the round of one-sided arguing finally settled, they continued with their practice, but the mood soured significantly. As Juniper undressed and packed up, she noticed Skye approaching her.
"I think the Slytherin team is up to something," Skye confessed. "Like they're sniffing us out."
"You think they're spying on us?" Juniper quickly caught on.
"Aye, and I think we should beat at their game."
"Okay, why me though?"
"You break the rules and don't care what others think. Besides, I figured you would get a kick out of it, curse-breaker," Skye shrugged nonchalantly. Juniper raised an eyebrow but didn't bother correcting her that she was on an important quest. But spying did sound intriguing. "Alright, what did you have in mind?"
"We'll attend their match this Saturday. We can observe their tactics during the game and see what we can learn." The girl explained.
Without thinking, Juniper agreed and furthermore added. "What about having a look through their changing rooms? In case they have anything to use that could sabotage the game."
"Even better!" Skye looked focused before she gave a big slap on the back. "Knew I could count on you."
Juniper blinked, realising what she had gotten herself into. Merlin, she realised that she and Rowan were going to sneak into the Gryffindor common room that day. Unless...Unless she could do both. Tackle the common room first, and as long as the Gryffindor-Slytherin match doesn't end quickly, she could join Skye, claiming she was late.
She still had to tackle the issue with the Gryffindor prefect. However, she might have an idea and the perfect person to distract Angelica Cole.
In the common room, she spotted the bright red hair; it had grown to her shoulder since her first year. Scribbling down something as her lips moved like she was talking to herself.
Tulip Karasu.
Juniper wasn't that close, but they had friendly enough conversations and traded chocolate frog cards with one another. She knew the girl got into frequent trouble and detention with her pranks. They were chaotic and unpredictable, which was perfect as a distraction.
"Hey Tulip," Juniper approached her with a big confident smile.
"I wasn't expecting to see you, Juniper Moss." Tulip looked up. Her toad, Dennis, sat on her shoulder. "What do you want?"
"How does causing some chaos sound?"
Juniper didn't miss that mischievous glint of the fellow Ravenclaw's eyes.
"And what will this cost me?"
"How does having all ma sweets for Halloween sound?" Juniper asked.
Tulip threw her head back in laughter. A few older Ravenclaws gave stern looks for disrupting their quiet study time.
"You need to learn how to haggle better, Juniper Moss."
"Oh..." Juniper laughed along, but it was clear she was dissatisfied. She silently prayed that her plan wasn't falling apart. Tulip seemed to sense her unease.
"Don't worry, I'll take your offer, but I also want to know why." She had a big smirk but felt uneasy in the pit of her stomach. Juniper brushed it quickly off, but something nagged her that Tulip couldn't be trusted.
Juniper explained that she wanted a distraction for Gryffindor for the upcoming quidditch match. Tulip pressed her on why she wanted that, but Juniper kept her lips sealed shut, only slipping out enough to half satisfy Tulip.
When Saturday dawned on Juniper, she knew she had to get this right. The match was set for eleven o'clock in the morning. She and Rowan had breakfast as usual, observing as either side of the Great Hall was busy with students encouraging and supporting their quidditch players. Deep in her observation, Skye unexpectedly sat opposite her.
"Look at them scheming up to no good." She chewed loudly with her mouth wide open with her toast. Her eyes pointed daggers at the Slytherin quidditch team.
"Morning to you too, Skye." Juniper sipped on her coffee. She hadn't forgotten that she had plans with Skye but hadn't accounted for the fact that Skye would meet her at breakfast.
"Oh...Hi there." Skye blinked at Rowan. Both girls stared at each for a second before looking at Juniper.
"Rowan, meet Skye Parkin from the Ravenclaw quidditch team. Skye, this is Rowan Khanna, my best friend." She pointed between the girls with her piece of toast. Technically, they all know each other from sharing a dorm room, but they never properly introduced themselves.
"It's nice to meet you, Skye." Rowan awkwardly grinned but fidgeted about with her sleeves. Juniper clearly could tell from the uncomfortable look on her face that she wasn't too happy with this situation.
"Yeah, eh, it's nice to meet you too." Skye rubbed the back of her head.
It became awkward for the trio, and Juniper had to do something to prevent this from worsening.
"Um, Rowan and I must do something, but I'll see you later." Juniper pulled Rowan, who seemed a little relieved.
Skye frowned but said nothing, but it was clear that she objected to the change in plans. Once out of sight of the Great Hall and using the many stairs, Rowan finally spoke up.
"You mind telling me what in Merlin's books was that?"
Juniper fidgeted with her fingers. She figured that this matter wouldn't be left alone.
"I might have accidently double booked myself."
"Juniper! You knew how important this was to finding Ben."
"I ken, I ken. I just wasn't thinking then, and before I realised the date and time, I just...I felt like I just couldn't cancel on her." Rowan physically cringed as Juniper cracked her knuckles.
"Oh sorry." She picked up on the discomfort. "I have a plan how to make this work, but Ben is my priority."
Rowan sighed, her face still tightened with worry.
"Okay," The frown lines faded. "You have a plan to deal with Angelica Cole?"
"I have some extra help if that's what you mean," Juniper smirked.
Rowan rolled her eyes. "This plan has gotten madder hasn't it?"
"You'll see."
Rowan and Juniper noticed the Gryffindor Prefect approaching them as they made their way towards the West Towers. Her red badge flashed before them. Juniper flagged her down before the opportunity slipped from her.
"Hey Angelica, can I talk to you for a second?"
"Okay, but make it quick." The older girl sounded impatient.
"I overheard that Slytherin will try to sabotage Gryffindor." Juniper lied.
"That's a serious accusation, Moss. Where did you hear this?" Her tone was pointed and sharp. Her brown eyes narrowed. Juniper tried not to show any fear.
"I think it was in potions," Juniper's eyes pleaded with Rowan's for support. The Ravenclaw girl quickly nodded. "Yeah, I heard it too. We share our lessons with the Slytherins."
Juniper felt Angelica analysing, observing for any deceit. In her mind, she was praying for this lie to work. Whatever Tulip had planned would be real, but it wasn't Slytherin who would be behind it.
"Okay, but this better be the truth, as I don't take lightly any threats made to anyone made in my house." The stern look was still frozen on Angelica's face. Naturally, she would take it seriously since Gryffindors and Slytherins have a tenuous history.
Juniper nervously nodded. "Aye, absolutely and good luck with the match."
The young Ravenclaw watched as the Prefect walked away. Angelica was most likely going to come back to them. In what manner, Juniper couldn't tell. Her body finally could relax a little for what felt like the most challenging part.
Rowan glanced around, ensuring they had some privacy before the last set of Gryffindor students left. They needed to shrink Juniper before the Gryffindor entrance opened quickly. The portrait of the fat lady was just at the end of the corridor. They couldn't risk her snitching either.
"Okay, quickly cast reducio now!"
Juniper took a deep breath. This better work because she didn't want to set foot ever again in the hospital wing.
"Reducio!"
Tumblr media
One second, the world was normal; the next, when Juniper opened her eyes, was Rowan's large shoes. Everything was comically larger; she looked up and saw Rowan, in slow motion, move down to pick her up.
"I can't believe it actually worked!" Excitedly, Rowan expressed before she composed herself. "I mean, of course, it worked. It was a well-formulated plan, and you're an amazing witch. Now get inside and find the black quill!"
Juniper imagined Rowan saying quickly in her usual excited manner, but to her, it sounded all so slow. She placed her near the door as a first-year Gryffindor stepped out.
"Let the lion ROAR! We're going to stomp those Slytherins."
Juniper used that opportunity to climb over the small ledge and into the common room. It was bright red but in an unusual comforting, homey way rather than flashy. There was a warm fire pit which the Ravenclaw common so sorely lacked. The absence of anyone made Juniper relax.
"Engorgio!"
Juniper had cast a spell on herself and was amused to see her wand grow with her. As she stretched back to her normal size, her body felt like jelly, causing her almost to lose her balance from the sudden dizziness, as if she had stood up too fast.
"Right then..." She muttered to herself. Juniper started her search with the comfortable couch, lined with thrown tartan blankets and dented cushions.
Her hands rummaged through the sofa cracks underneath the blankets and cushions. She lifted items and objects. She froze whenever she heard the slightest sound of students in their dorms nearby. Tracing her fingers under the desk as her eyes anxiously darted between the clock and the common room. After twenty or thirty minutes, she felt her fingers traced over something soft and feathery.
"Gotcha!"
Juniper pulled out the black quill, which was long and regal, wondering if Gedeon would immediately identify what bird it belonged to as she hid it underneath her jumper. She sprinted to the door, which swung open. She was greeted with a frightened look from Rowan and a stringent look from Professor McGonagall and Angelica.
"Sorry, Juniper..." Rowan rubbed her arm with her itchy cardigan before fixing her glasses.
"Professor McGonagall." Juniper attempted to conceal her surprise. "What brings you here?"
"Angelica returned to ensure Slytherins weren't tampering with the Gryffindor common room after that dung bomb attack on the changing rooms." Juniper tried not to show any relief that Tulip did her part. She was astounded that Tulip was brazen to target the Slytherin changing rooms. Though she felt more daggers shooting out of Professor McGonagall's eyes. "When she noticed Miss Khanna's suspicious behaviour, she did the right thing and found her head of house. Then we find you leaving our common room. A place you know you are forbidden to enter. Explain your behaviour, Miss Moss."
"I only did it because I was trying to find Ben." Juniper wasn't lying nor hiding this time. She genuinely wanted to find Ben.
"And why did you think sneaking into our common room would help find him?" Professor McGonagall questioned.
"It sounds stupid, but I hoped he was hiding inside. I was checking everywhere, and I'm just afraid he might be hurt..." The pain in her voice was genuine.
"I assume you didn't find him?"
"No."
The Professor sighed. "Very well. Be on your way."
Angelica looked appalled at the teacher's decision. "You aren't going to take House point from her?"
"Although, Miss Moss made an ill-asvised decision, she showed great courage, and did so in search of her Gryffindor friend. And I know she will never attempt to enter another house's common room ever again." Her stern stare didn't fade. Both Rowan and Juniper nodded with slight fear before they were dismissed.
They hurriedly walked back to the Ravenclaw Tower. They rushed up the many flights of stairs; at this point, any experienced Ravenclaw had built-up stamina from the daily workout alone. Rowan queried Juniper about the effects of the shrinking and enlarging charm. It was a much-needed distraction as Rowan asked meticulous questions. Luckily their dorm room was empty, so they could transfigure the quill privately.
"What do you think the secret instructions will say? I hope Ben wasn't forced to do something terrible..." They sat down on Rowan's bottom bunk with the black quill between them.
"Well we need to untransfigure the quill to find out." Juniper pulled out her wand and waved in a curve. "Reparifarge!"
The black quill shifted into a parchment. Identifiable letters were written on it, which was one positive.
"'Proceed to the farthest corridor at the East end of the fifth floor. Transfigure this scroll into a black quill, and return it to the Gryffindor common room. Failure to follow your instruction will result in severe punishment.'-R." Juniper read as a slight shiver travelled down her spine.
Rowan had a look of horror that Juniper had never seen before on her face. Not even being trapped in the ice room last year brought this much terror.
"Severe punishment?" The girl's typically dark brown skin grew to a pale grey. "Is that what happened to Ben?"
Juniper shared a terrified look.
"I hope no. He's going tae be alright." Her voice had an unmissable strain, but Juniper held onto that hope. It's been almost two months, but she was certain they would find him.
"What's in that corridor?"
"Nothing that I know or anything in Hogwarts, a History." Rowan paused, concentrating on her thoughts. "Why was he supposed to put the quill back where he found it?"
"Maybe he isn't the only one receiving these instructions." Juniper ominously said out loud.
"I have a bad feeling about this, Juniper? Dumbledore said if we found anything odd, we should tell a professor." Juniper immediately shook her in refute. No adults can get involved. Last year proved enough that she and her friends could find more clues faster. "Do you really think we should explore the corridor?"
"I don't want to go alone."
"Okay, I don't like it but I'll come."
"Alright, we'll form a plan."
Juniper updated her notebook, wondering if she should write to Gedeon about the quill. He could identify the feather and see if the type of bird narrows anything down; Latin origin, symbolism, a story associated, anything as a clue to help identify or lead to their mysterious R.
"There you are, Moss!"
Juniper nearly jumped out of her own skin. The door was slammed open as Skye Parkin stood there, bright red in the face. The realisation slapped hard.
"Oh..."
"Oh? That's all you've got to say when you had the balls to blow me off!" Skye stormed over with her first clenched.
"I'm so sorry, I completely forgot." She stepped back to maintain some space between them. "It's just been a busy day, Skye. You see I was trying to find my friend, Be-"
"Aye, like I care." Skye cut her off. "The match got cancelled because someone threw a dung bomb in the Gryffindor changing rooms."
"I did nae ken the match was cancelled," Juniper said, surprised. This was different from how it was meant to go.
"Of course, you didn't, 'cause you were nae there!" Skye said in an angry tone. Her eyebrows were so furrowed in.
"Again, I'm sorry, but I was trying to see if I could find ma missing friend, and this was ma only opportunity," Juniper argued back. Ben was more important than Quidditch.
Tumblr media
"Then you should nae have agreed to come with me," Skye counter-argued.
"I forgot I had other plans during the match but thought I could join later. So that I at least could watch some of the matches with you and see if Slytherin was going to sabotage." Juniper explained the situation as best she could. She couldn't precisely reveal that she was partially to blame for the surprise attack. Regret trickled up her mind. Maybe she shouldn't have let Tulip to her own devices.
"Well I'm sure they did!"
Juniper wanted the ground to swallow her whole and leave nothing behind. This attack had unintentionally made Slytherin look like the perpetrators alongside her and Rowan's fake accusation. The Professors will surely investigate the situation. This was made worse as Slytherins were genuinely innocent in this case.
"Well, you got your answer." Juniper snarkily replied. She could not afford for Skye to find out.
"I guess I did without you."
"Fine!"
"Fine!"

My favourite hobby is back!
Aka I decided to do more gender bendering bc why not
Tumblr media
Ok, Merula had been done in all the sauces but I want to say in my defence that the reference for this one was hilarious (like I literally thought that male Merula was indeed looking a bit like…Edward Cullen). For Penny I'M NOT RENOUNCING THE BRAIDS, NEVER IN THIS LIFE and for Ben a little 50's touch, kinda the same job done with Murphy.
Tumblr media
My fav is Tulip but I'm not writing stuff that u already now…Instead, I'll add that this is one of the works that I'm more proud of since Andre, Talbott, Barnaby & Liz weren't exactly easy.
So, for the next one….
Tumblr media
It's the magical world of the shipping with Diego begin for once my fav
Bonus!
Tumblr media
And I may be in love with Jane uff- also, Felix and Chester scream too much “besties” or girlfriends material ngl.
you can actually use my designs! Just tag me! Both of my projects are considerably made by an huge amount of work, which means that I could only be happy if someone uses them!

Promises
Ahaha, so... I'm doing this now.
Just a quick note, Jacob here is a year older than Angelica and the time period for my hphm au is around the 2020s, hence Headmistress and not Headmaster. Also the prefects were involved in the first Vault Huntings up until Duncan's death.
Characters: Angelica Cole, Jacob Xavier, Kristen Xavier (MC)
Ship: Jacob/Angelica
Summary: Angelica's mind drifts off to the last time she saw Jacob while helping Kristen with some homework.
No one was okay after Duncan Ashe's death. It was almost as if a suffocating feeling had entered Hogwarts ever since the incident, the students becoming a little restless as a result.
The 6 were given free time from their classes in order to grieve from the Headmistress and several professors have offered their classrooms if they ever wanted to talk. Most of them took them up on the offer, Jane most of all (at least, when she wasn't crying her eyes out in her room).
Except for…
"Jacob, what are you doing here so late?"
"Mm?" He lifted his head up from the stacks of books laid about on the common room table at the concerned face in front of him, "Angelica? Is that you?"
"Yes, it's me." Angelica sighed, taking the seat next to him,"You're doing it again."
"I am?" He sits up, only to pause, "Hm, guess I am."
"Jacob please, this is serious." She frowned, "You've been overworking yourself every night ever since… since…" the words catch on her throat.
Since Duncan died. Since Rakepick turned on us. Since everything began falling apart beneath our feet.
"..." he rubs his eyes, sighing,"I have to. You know that."
"No, I don't!" She hissed, "Ever since then, you've been ignoring all of us! You've been forgetting to sleep, to eat, all of this to search for the Cursed Vaults! Just-!" Her voice wavered and she felt tears in her eyes, "Just… Please just talk to us, Jacob. I'm begging you…"
Silence. Jacob stares at her before reaching out and cupping her cheek, leaning in slightly as his thumb gingerly wiping the tears away. There's a look in his eyes that made her heart race despite the circumstances.
Angelica takes a deep breath, holding his hands, "We're here for you. Always."
"I know, Angel." He whispered, the words heavy on both their hearts as he leaned in and the kiss he gave was filled with as much sorrow as love, "That's why I have to do this alone."
How could they have known this was the beginning of the end?
"Can you promise me something?" He pulled away after what felt like eternity, voice a little raw from the kiss, "My sister… Can you look out for her, please?"
All she could manage was a small nod before she pulled him by the shirt and the world melted away once again.
Jacob went missing too soon after, only with a letter addressed to all of them giving his apologies. Olivia disappeared a while after that, only to be found dead with her mouth stitched shut. A warning.
How were any of them okay? Angelica thought bitterly, Will it be one tragedy after another? First Duncan, then Jacob and now Olivia. Were they next on the chopping board? Who would die first? Who-
"You're doing it again." A voice gently shakes her out of her thoughts, "Angie, c'mon."
She blinked, slowly turning to see emerald greens staring back at her, "I… what?"
"You were spiraling again." Kristen Xavier clicks her tongue softly,"Should I get the others? They should be back by now."
Angelica shakes her head, "I'm fine." With a sigh, she looked up for a moment, watching the tree's leaves sway in the calm breeze, before sighing and looking back at the books on the grass, "Right, where were we again-?"
"It's not your fault." Kristen mutters softly, "Jacob disappearing, I mean."
"..." she's silent now, "I know." Her voice was suddenly raw.
"...he talked about you a lot." The younger girl remarked, "He really loved you."
Angelica felt her heart squeeze as memories of that night came to mind, "Oh?"
"Mhm." Kristen nods, absentmindedly picking at the grass, "I've never heard him talk about anyone like he talked about you."
Her breath caught in her throat. Jacob, mad, brilliant, perfect Jacob had talked about her like that? Gods above this is making her want to find him just so she could kick his ass and then kiss him silly till all that pain went away.
"We… we'll find him." She said instead, "I promise you."
Just like I promised him.

POTC: OST Musical fan concept synopsis (cruise line version)
TW: mention of self harm and pregnancy, discussion of abuse
The ladies enter the stage and begin to gossip. One lass said she had one rumor to share.
At King George II’s courtroom. King’s guards bring up Jack because he escapes and Gibbs got the Sao’s map. The reason why Jack was brought here to the king is that the king need him to search for the Fountain of Youth before the Spanish claimed it again. Although Jack has already searched before, except he never drank the water from the fountain. Barbossa appears with a peg leg and reunites with Jack and told him that he joins as a privateer and lost the pearl 3 years ago which made Jack pissed at him. Jack escapes again and led Barbossa to ask Gibbs for a map to join his conspiracy for his “plan”
Gossipers said that Barbossa got a peg leg and lost the pearl which pissed Jack off. One said that Jack is questioning his immortality because he never once drank from the fountain after he found it in St. Augustine. Also, Barbossa was angered at Jack for wronging him and Jack accuses him of bribery for his “plan”. One says that Jack’s father, Captain Edward Teague told his son about the two chalices where treasures are rare and kept in the cave that Ponce stored, and also Teague told his son about Captain Stephen Cole.
Gossipers described Cole as tall and majestic yet more terrifying than Blackbeard. And people treat him as their king.
Jack reunited with Angelica, his lover/fwb from 10 years ago. Angelica was upset with Jack because he promised to return to her home city, Havana when they start their relationship and decided to become a pirate to search for Jack for years and became a second mate to Stephan Cole. She told him about taking Cole to the Fountain of Youth and Jack agrees since the King orders him to go to the fountain. Also, she told him about the Carnival in Tortuga and Jack agrees.
Gossipers said that when they first met, Jack thought the convent was a brothel. Angelica was charmed by him. However, he sees Angelica as someone else during the few months of their relationship. And some say he uses her to cope for cannot handle the previous women he met in his life.
At the courtyard, Gibbs was confronted by Privateer Barbossa along with Royal Navy officers, Joseph and Daniel for recruiting him for his “plan” and the map that Gibbs. Gibbs agrees to join the conspiracy and burns the map. Barbossa was shocked and asks Gibbs why he burns the map because Gibbs memorized the map during his sailor years. Nevertheless, Barbossa happily welcomes Gibbs to his company.
Meanwhile, Angelica introduces Jack to Captain Stephen Cole, the most popular pirate of them all. And discusses the fountain and wanting to drink from the fountain to make him look young again. Jack says that the water from the fountain will solve his immortality issues and it will make him immortal. Cole mentions that he fought battles with ships and shrank them as his ship in the bottle collection, and it includes Jack’s beloved Black Pearl, and owned Queen Anne’s Revenge after Blackbeard’s death. Cole told Jack after they drank the water from the fountain, he’ll give him back his Black Pearl. Jack agrees.
Gossipers said that both Jack and Cole are insecure in their own ways and think the Fountain of Youth will solve them. Jack has high hopes that he’ll get his Pearl back from Cole.
They went to Tortuga where the Carnival celebration was held. As they went there, Cole was filled with pride when the crowd cheered for him, but the soothsayer come up with him and told him to better watch out on Friday the 13th of March. However, Cole didn’t care what the soothsayer predicted. Everyone celebrated until the storm came. Jack and Angelica went damped and they have to find the shelter until they found it.
Gossipers said they “do that thing” tonight. They say that Angelica wants more intimacy than affection. But she didn't want to admit her feelings for him.
The next day, at HMS Providence, Barbossa brought Gibbs to the ship. Gibbs claims there are three Spanish ships that sail towards them. Barbossa orders his men but the Spanish ships sailed away without igniting the cannons. However, Barbossa deduces that for the Spanish, the fountain is their prize and not sink, and knew Providence will fall behind to pursue the fountain. Barbossa orders his crew to begin sailing.
A few weeks later, back at Revenge, the crew sword fighting and cannons fired to get supplies from merchant ships. After they collect supplies, they cheered.  As they reach St. Augustine, Angelica and Jack spend time with each other. Jack told her about his love for the sea. And so Angelica, she want freedom. After they arrived, Angelica collects “mermaid tears” (sea glass) from the shore and put them in her little bagful, and said it was for Cole’s ritual. As the crew went to the ow, they compliment how beautiful the town is and the townspeople of Augustine praise Cole, too. Gibbs appears again, and Jack asks Gibbs why he was there. Gibbs said that He’ll spy on Cole. Meanwhile, Barbossa traded an emerald to venom from the venomous snake for his sword from the market. As they headed to the cave, Angelica told Cole that she had a dream that Cole died on Friday the 13th of March. As they arrived at the cave, Cole orders Jack to get two chalices and then left both Jack and Angelica at the hotel.
Gossipers said that Cole want Jack to get lost and die in the cave to find two chalices.
Before Jack enters the cave, Angelica told him that she heard that the cave is like a maze, she brought a ball of yarn and gives it to Jack so he could find the way out after he got two chalices and then he enters the cave with the string. Then Barbossa and his crew arrive and Barbossa’s only one enters the cave and follows the string where Jack walks. Then Angelica felt sick, and she quickly goes back to the town where the doctor’s office is located. While finally there, Angelica began catches feelings for Jack.
At the cave, Jack pulled the string of yarn as Angelica said while searching for the chalices. When he carefully goes through, he found the treasure that Ponce stored and finally saw the chalices. But he reunited Barbossa because he was ordered by the King to get the chalices for the fountain. Barbossa also explains about the Spanish stole the chalices from a long time ago. The two stole the chalices, left the cave, and went to the Spanish camp.
Meanwhile, Angelica left the doctor’s office, she said she was stated by the doctor that she was pregnant with Jack’s child, not being sick. She returns to the hotel
Gossipers said that she kept her pregnancy a secret from Cole due to her affair with Jack.
Back at the camp, Jack was told by Barbossa that his sword has snake venom. After they stole the other chalice, both got tied up around the palm trees. Barbossa said that his desire for revenge against Cole was because Cole made fun of him for being emotionally grieving over his late lover’s passing. He and Cole have a feud and got offended by Cole called him "snake". About his peg leg, he battleship with Cole and he cut off his leg in self-harm and grieving over Cole stealing the Pearl and his monkey, Jack. After this, Cole made a false rumors about Barbossa and everyone (except the Turners) turning against him. While on exile, he became a privateer. And he also didn’t like Cole’s popularity that he was jealous of. Jack agrees to help Barbossa to assassinate Cole. they escape the camp with chalices.
Gossipers said that when Angelica went back to the hotel, Jack went to the hotel, and he climbed to the balcony of her home. Then, both have a conversation.
Jack calls Angelica “bossy” and selfish when Cole was around. Angelica reveals that she was stuck on being “used” and “perfect”, and she never asks him to take Cole to the fountain, she is doing it for Cole.  This shocks Jack and he told his plan for Angelica until Cole enters the room and Jack escapes.
Gossipers said Cole finds out that Angelica having an affair with Jack and betrays him for helping Jack escape from the cave. Then, Cole cuts Angelica’s hair, dreadfully.
The next day, the crew went to the Fountain of Youth, Jack freed Gibbs and starts continuing going to the fountain. As they finally arrive, Cole blinded Jack with his mirror reflected by the sun. And then Barbossa and his crew arrived and they begin battle. The battle was interrupted by the Spanish and they claim the fountain was a hoax, they left after they demolished the fountain.  Before running out of time, Angelica collects water into chalices and puts mermaid tears in each chalice, and waits for the tears to dissolve. Cole drank it finally and he felt look young again. But then, Barbossa and his crew assassinate Cole with many gunshots and stab wounds. Barbossa finally stabs Cole and injected him with venom. While Cole was weak and has few minutes to live, he asks Angelica, “And you?”, Jack threw his pistol at Angelica and she shoots him dead, finally. Cole died on Friday the 13th of March. Angelica ask Jack if he would like to have a drink but Jack declines. Jack’s eyes became better after being blinded by the mirror light.
The crew returns to the town with Cole’s dead body. Cole’s Cabin Boy said that he died by ambition. He said that Angelica, Barbssa, and the rest are noble people. The Boy said Cole left all his fortune to all. And the mob turns angry and turns against Barbossa and his crew and Jack, Angelica, and their crew, too. Jack finally got his Pearl in the bottle back from late Cole and Barbossa taking over Revenge and Jack stole Dying Gull from the harbor and they flee to Tortuga from the angry mob.
At night, after they escape from the mob, Jack, Angelica, and the others briefly stay on the island. Angelica hinted to Jack that she had a child with him.
Meanwhile, Barbossa is now the new Revenge captain of the ship, reunited with his beloved monkey, Jack and he and his crew make their way to Tortuga so people view him as the new popular and powerful pirate than Cole. Barbossa became a master of his fate.
The next morning, Angelica woke up and finds out she was deserted alone and being left by Jack. She felt betrayed by him. Gossipers said that Angelica had an honest comment about Jack. Angelica called Jack a “reckless scoundrel” and also realized that she’s also used by him, upsetting.
One lady asks, did Angelica forgives Jack. Gossipers said yes. The gossipers paused until they realized they have a similar thing as Angelica and began blunting about it.

Would give so much for a PIDW / SVSSS concept tape... just like... the A is PIDW mix between grunge and ballads all about sorrow and hunger and revenge and then you flip to the B side and one of the singers has definitely been replaced but is doing their best to sing the same intro songs with some minor changes (phrases and exactly how it's sung of course)
(would be extremely funny to have sqq's replacement to stop mid [extremely dramatic lyrics about cycles of revenge] and be like "yikes" under his breath but Audible and other Funny gags like the intro of a song having to go over twice until sqq's replacement goes "oh!" and starts singing. Pre or post song chatter but it's sqq being like "haha you want me to sing what?") until eventually the track list changes too and it becomes a tragicomedy / love song album
Absolutely hilarious if it played out like the [gunshot: another instrument is silenced] meme but practically I think the last song sqq's singer is in should have his voice cut off mid-lyric in like a display of emotion except he does Not show up again until his replacement on the b-side. (Although with how many deaths are in pidw you could get away with a similar style since I'm assuming all the characters get leitmotifs or instrument associations! So when one of them dies that just does Not Show Up Again)
The A side you get to hear lbh's singer go from bright-voiced optimism to deep, seductive and filled with anger (he's out here chanting like slipknot "cut, cut, cut me up, fuck, fuck, fuck me up" and on the B-side he just starts singing about pining love and moonlight like, halfway through. He still has the vocal evolution but like in a different direction. It would be SO Funny.
(I don't think lqg would have vocals but whatever instrument he's associated with would play up with new sqq's vocals all the time on the B Side. Just like. Dueting. Insistently. Ahh it'd be hilarious if sqq's voice like gets a little drowned out so he just stops and lbh's voice (and leitmotif honestly) barges through the track and drowns out lqg's instrument before fading out with all instrumentals except for sqq's quiet little leitmotif before sqq makes a startled noise and starts singing again. You can hear this man thinking omg wtf yikes while he sings hahhhh)

[After barely avoiding expulsion the previous year, one would think that Carewyn Cromwell would’ve decided to keep her head down and focus on her studies. But it soon proved impossible.
It all started on the train back home for the summer holidays, when Rowan told Carewyn that she’d figured out what the runes on the wall of the Frozen Room had meant: “the Ice Knight stands guard past the Vanished Stairs.”
“It sounds just like the Knight you talked about seeing back in the Artifact Room!” Rowan had put together at once.
Carewyn agreed. Unfortunately all of that summer, neither she nor Rowan could find any information about Ice Knights associated with Hogwarts. Carewyn had even very tentatively asked her mother Lane if she knew about any knights associated with Hogwarts, and the only one she could name explicitly was Sir Cadogan, who resided in one of the castle portraits. And when Carewyn returned to school and met Sir Cadogan herself, she quickly put together that no, that knight most certainly was not the one associated with the Cursed Vaults.
‘Surely a knight like that would have to have a little bit more dignity,’ Carewyn couldn’t help but think.
Carewyn’s return to school, however, came with another problem. Ben Copper was missing, and none of the student body seemed to know where he was. Even the gossip queen Penny had only caught rumors, most of which were not encouraging.
“He was on the train this year, and his dormmate Jae Kim said something about seeing him studying Transfiguration in the Courtyard, the day after we came back,” said Penny. “But he didn’t return to the Gryffindor commonroom that night, and no one’s seen him in class either. He's even been missing Charms, and everyone knows that’s his favorite class...”
Carewyn and Rowan split up after Potions class that Tuesday, Rowan getting a head start on looking around the castle for clues while Carewyn checked in with Ben’s Head of House, Professor McGonagall. (If nothing else, McGonagall had quietly offered Carewyn some Transfiguration tutoring, so as to help her get the hang of Reparifarge, which she’d been having difficulty with.)
The two twelve-year-old Slytherins reconvened in the commonroom afterwards to compare notes.]
Tumblr media
Carewyn: “(gloomily) Nothing good. Professor McGonagall said the cursed ice did sometimes have ‘weird effects’ on students when it appeared last time, but...well, Ben wasn’t even near the cursed ice, right?”
Rowan: “Right! We were a lot closer to it than he ever was. And I don’t feel any different, do you?
Carewyn: “No. And Penny and Merula seem fine too -- or at least, as fine as Merula can be, I collided with her in the hall on the way back down here.”
[Carewyn’s eyes flashed resenfully.]
Carewyn: “She acted like she knew something, but it was all just a bunch of hot air. Said that sometimes people are just meant to go missing and not be found.”
Like Jacob.
[Rowan likewise wrinkled her nose in disgust.]
Rowan: “She really is the worst.”
[She brightened up a bit.]
Rowan: “Well, I found something promising! I went back to the Artifact Room to look for Ben -- I remember he liked to hide in there a lot last year, to avoid Merula -- and I found this one closet locked up for some reason. So I unlocked it with Alohomora and I found this.”
[She held out a note covered in runes -- very familiar-looking runes.
Carewyn’s eyes widened.]
Carewyn: “These look like the runes from the room with the cursed ice!”
Rowan: “(eagerly) Exactly!”
[Rowan extended a hand and Carewyn handed the note back to her as she continued,]
Rowan: “I knew it couldn’t just be a coincidence, so I brought it to the library so I could use that book I found last year to translate the message...”
Tumblr media
Rowan: “It says,”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Carewyn frowned deeply, her eyebrows knitting together over her eyes.]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Carewyn shook her head firmly.]
Carewyn: “Me either.”
Hagrid wouldn’t punish anybody like that...really, as gruff as Felix can be, I can’t see him threatening anybody like that either. Even Filch seems unlikely...why would he be using ancient runes to write secret notes?
[This whole thing seemed very shady, to Carewyn. Why would people be sending threatening coded messages to a Gryffindor student?
A troubling thought came to Carewyn’s mind.]
Carewyn: “...Rowan...do you think Ben could’ve found this?”
Rowan: “(blinks) Ben?”
Carewyn: “You said yourself that Ben likes to hide in the Artifact Room. And the note mentions hiding this strange quill in the Gryffindor Common Room -- why would someone do that, unless the person meant to find this was in Gryffindor?”
[Rowan’s eyes widened.]
Rowan: “Do you think the note was meant for Ben?”
How could it be? Ben’s scared of his own shadow -- how could he get roped into this kind of trouble? ...But...with how scared he is, if he was being targeted by someone, who knows how much danger he’d be in now...?
[Shoving away her misgivings, Carewyn put on a confident front.]
Tumblr media
Carewyn: “Penny said Ben was seen studying Transfiguration, right before he disappeared. Maybe the threat scared Ben enough that he went to find that Quill, just to keep whoever wrote that threat from hurting anybody. I mean, the note doesn’t tell us that much. Maybe Ben thought if he did what the note said and found the one that they transfigured into a Quill, he could figure out who 'R’ is and get the teachers’ help with them.”
[Rowan frowned, looking a little less certain.]
Rowan: “...Mm, maybe...”
[She considered the matter for a moment.]
Rowan: “...Well, you’re not getting into Gryffindor Tower with just a password. Hogwarts: A History says Gryffindors have a painting of a Fat Lady that guards their commonroom, so she’d be able to tell the teachers if she saw any non-Gryffindors go inside. And obviously you’d have to be careful not to get caught by any Gryffindors inside the actual common room, once you’re inside...”
[Carewyn nodded in agreement. Her eyes drifted away absently toward the fireplace in the corner as her thoughts whirled.]
Carewyn: “(murmurs) It’s too bad we haven’t studied Disillusionment Charms yet...then maybe I could just walk around unseen...”
Rowan: “(points out) That still wouldn’t open up the Portrait for you, though. I don’t reckon the Fat Lady would let in a disembodied voice.”
Carewyn: “(frowns) ...Mm, you’re right.”
Disillusionment Charms don’t even make you perfectly invisible either...someone could still probably see me if it was daylight out, at least a little.
Rowan: “(thoughtfully) Plus even if you could make yourself unseen, you could still knock into somebody, just trying to get in or out. There are a lot of big, brawny guys in Gryffindor -- especially on their Quidditch team...”
[She trailed off, her black eyes widening. Then her entire face lit up and she seemed to bounce on her heels.]
Rowan: “I’ve got it! We haven’t learned the Disillusionment Charm with Professor Flitwick yet...but we are studying the Shrinking and Engorgement Charms! And next week the Gryffindor Quidditch team is set to go up against Slytherin in their first house match!”
Carewyn: “(slowly) ...Yeah...but how does that help?”
Rowan: “(excitedly) It helps because everyone will be at that match! Everyone except us!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rowan: “What do you think?”
It sounds absolutely mad and dangerous and like a million things could go wrong...
[Rowan’s excitement, though, bled through to Carewyn enough that she just didn’t have the heart to say that. Her best friend’s enthusiasm just reminded her so much of Jacob...
And so she put on her bravest smile.]
Carewyn: “It’s brilliant, Rowan.”
[Rowan beamed, positively glowing in response to the support.]
Carewyn: “It does seem a bit dangerous, though. Are those sorts of Charms supposed to be used on people?”
Rowan: “(thoughtfully) Well, I know it can work on living creatures -- some people theorize that the first acromantula were bred by wizards who used Engorgement Charms on tarantulas...”
[Rowan trailed off seeing Carewyn’s concerned expression. With a bright smile, she brought a hand onto her much smaller best friend’s shoulder and gave it a squeeze.]
Rowan: “(confidently) Don’t worry, Carewyn -- I’ll do the research to make sure we do it safely. And I’ll be in the hall outside Gryffindor Tower the whole time, to make sure no one catches you.”
[Carewyn relaxed a bit despite herself and smiled.]
Carewyn: “(determined) Okay. I’ll do some extra practice of the Shrinking and Engorgement Charms too -- I’ll have to have it down perfectly, if this is going to work.”
Rowan: “(nods) Right! Everyone should be at the match, but I reckon we’d still get weird looks, if you regrew yourself too much...”
[A thought seemed to cross her mind, and her face grew a little more thoughtful again.]
Rowan: “...That’s something else, though. This plan will only work if everyone else is at the match and won’t be around to catch us. And well...”
Tumblr media
Carewyn: “The one in Felix’s year, you mean?”
Rowan: “(nods) I overheard Felix talking about some Slytherins tagging the Gryffindor Quidditch tent last year, after a Quidditch friendly. He wasn’t unhappy that they did it, but he was kind of mean about any Slytherins getting caught for something like that. Said Angelica Cole would be keeping an extra close eye on everyone in our house, just to make sure we don’t try anything this year.”
Carewyn: “So you think Angelica might stay behind to guard the Gryffindor commonroom, just to make sure Slytherin doesn’t pull anything.”
[She considered this. Carewyn didn’t know much about Angelica Cole -- she’d really never spoken to her, since she was so much older and belonged to a different house...
But...
A memory swirled in her mind -- Penny, talking to her in the hall outside Dumbledore’s office.
“...I overheard Angelica Cole telling Jane Court that she’d never heard of a Slytherin doing something that noble for a Gryffindor before...”
Carewyn’s eyes glinted with fresh resolve.]
Carewyn: “Don’t worry -- I think I can handle it.”
((OOC: Yaaaay, year 2 of Carewyn’s Beginnings starts at last! In this part of the series, we’ll both enter the Ice Vault and introduce the start of Carewyn’s close friendship with her surrogate Big Brother Best Friend Bill! Feel free to consult the rest of the “Carewyn’s Beginnings” tag for year 1, and I hope you’ll like/reblog/comment, as well as stay tuned for the next parts of the series!))
