“Today has been a day dropped out of June into April. The snow is all gone and the fawn meadows and golden hills just sing of spring. I know I heard Pan piping in the little green hollow in my maple bush and my Storm King was bannered with the airiest of purple hazes. We've had a great deal of rain lately and I've loved sitting in my tower in the still, wet hours of the spring twilights. But tonight is a gusty, hurrying night...even the clouds racing over the sky are in a hurry and the moonlight that gushes out between them is in a hurry to flood the world.
“Suppose, Gilbert, we were walking hand in hand down one of the long roads in Avonlea tonight!
“Gilbert, I'm afraid I'm scandalously in love with you. You don't think it's irreverent, do you? But then, you're not a minister.”

"...Someday when you leave me, I'll bet these memories follow you around..."
-Taylor Swift, Wildest Dreams
(individual pieces and artist thoughts under the cut, Image ID in alt texts)
I finally got the bookmark that i made a while ago digitalized, and the results are better than i could've imagined! Ah, the wonders of Ctrl+Z, amiright?
I also tested out some new brushes for inking and coloring and I've fallen in love with the one i used for inking, it's so much fun!!! And so textured!!! 10/10 I'll be using this forever now.
I didn't make any major changes to the designs, it's still the same scenes + quote combos as before, just now with way better shading/lighting effects. Bonfire scene my beloved,,,, reunion scene my beloved!!!!

Tagged by @scarvenartist to share my recent, current, and future reads. Thank you!
Recent: I just finished Ann of Sunflower Lane this morning, and I never thought I would ever want anyone to shut up about Anne of Green Gables, but that book took me there. The constant in-universe references and self-conscious quotations (there was. a. list. at. the. end. of where all the quotes came from. just so you didn't miss it.) didn't allow the story and characters to stand on their own merit, and the whole thing felt more like a pale imitation than a homage in a comparable vein with its own identity. A cute harmless story, but missing the point of what makes AoGG such a beloved classic.
(I'll review it in more depth at the end of the month, but this annoyance needed somewhere to go right now.)
Current: I'm researching for a future post by finishing up Robin 1993, which I've meant to do for a while, but it's so long. But also, apparently, so necessary. I am having a lot of emotions.
Future: I am about to start Illuminations and have a stack of other ILLs awaiting me, as well as the scary brick assigned by my friend, which I'm still not in the headspace to start. Also, I read a bit of Batgirl 2000 for a multiple crossover with Tim's series, and that made me want to get to know Cass better (and analyze her first-person narration), so her solo might be a future read.

“Oh, Diana, will you promise faithfully never to forget me, the friend of your youth, no matter what dearer friends may caress thee?”    “Indeed I will,” sobbed Diana, “and I’ll never have another bosom friend - I don’t want to have. I couldn’t love anybody as I love you.”

1980s hits!
Anne of Green Gables, The Princess Bride, Back to the Future, The Land Before Time, Oliver & Company & like. Half of Ghibli’s hits are from this era, do you have a fav?
Anne of Green Gables
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite| masterpiece
Assuming you're talking about the Kevin (?) Sullivan one, BELOVED. I have very fond memories of watching it at my grandparents' place... my grandfather loves AoGG (he was born in New Brunswick!). I used to be quite the Anne girlie lol, still have fond memories of it even though I only remember the first half of the movie 🥰
The Princess Bride
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
Top movies of all time. I am not necessarily an 80s 'everything was better then' (lmao not with reagan as president...) but movies in the 80s were insanely next level. The Princess Bride is one of my all time favourite movies! It's perfect for ANY mood, it's bisexual catnip, and it's infinitely quotable. Cary Elwes in this movie is STILL the ideal man.
Back to the Future
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
Quite possibly my literal favourite movie of all time. I can never get tired of it. Michael J Fox, short Canadian king. You built a time machine... out of a DeLorean?? (I own four, btw: two BTTF DeLorean Christmas ornaments, a hot wheels one, and a playmobil one). The first movie is perfect on its own, but the trilogy is also insanely good. If you haven't seen it, i think you perhaps haven't lived. Yes the actual time travel science is bullshit according to other time travel movies, but I don't CARE. also I literally wrote a whole BTTF AU. this is my movie.
The Land Before Time
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
We had this on VHS (dating myself here...) and I really enjoyed it! Justice for the 80s/90s animations that were not Disney... also they made leafs look fucking delicious.
Oliver & Company
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
Disney's flop era... I'm a Robin Hood girlie. Precursor to the weird 2000s era where they just told whatever stories they wanted. Oliver Twist but with animals in New York City is a fun concept. I haven't seen it though. Should I watch it?
Okay yeah, I looked up what Ghiblis were in the 80s and uh.
Castle in the Sky
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
All Ghiblis are a masterpiece, but even when you ignore all the fun pirate stuff in Castle in the Sky, it's surprisingly... haunting? We got a bunch of Ghibli movies on DVD one Christmas, and we watched Ponyo one night, and then followed it up with this one... it just feels so... melancholy. And yet full of whimsy (it's a warning about mistreating the earth and resources like so many of them are, goddamn it). Anyway, picturing the giant floating tree now... and feeling emotional.

Evolution of Anne & Gilbert’s relationship over the years (insp)
“Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one’s life with pomp and blare, like a gay knight riding down; perhaps it crept to one’s side like an old friend through quiet ways; perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose, until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed the rhythm and the music, perhaps . . . perhaps . . . love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship, as a golden-hearted rose slipping from its green sheath.” - L.M. Montgomery - Anne of Avonlea (1909)

It’s occurred to me that not everyone knows that Anne of Green Gables is an eight book series, so…
Anne of Green Gables is an eight book series starting from when Anne is a young girl and following her story through to her youngest daughter navigating adulthood during WWI. Please read if you enjoyed Anne of Green Gables, or Anne with an E, you won’t be sorry!!

She could not help thinking, too, that it would be very pleasant to have such a friend [...] to jest and chatter with and exchange ideas about books and studies and ambitions.
