Pegasus Returns?! Duel, Kaiba-Boy! Pt. 1
[Seto and Mokuba fly over the island Maximillion Pegasus calls home, Duelist Kingdom, in the Blue-Eyes Jet. Seto is piloting.
"I can't believe we're visiting Duelist Kingdom again," Seto mutters, with clear disdain.
"Yeah," Mokuba adds, "It's got nothing but bad memories..."
"I'll make this quick, so that we don't have to be here very long." Seto assures Mokuba. They land shortly thereafter.
The Kaibas are silent as they approach the darkened entrance hall. It's eerily empty.
"Do you think anyone even still works here...? I mean, Pegasus is supposed to be dead!" Mokuba remarks. "If it really is him, we'll put him in the ground for good this time!"
Seto nods, but doesn't verbally reply.
It's not long until they come to a large room, too high up to see its floor in the dim, with their walkway suddenly cut off with a drop into the pit. Seto has to grab Mokuba's arm to keep the younger boy from walking right off the edge, as he's preoccupied looking around the room; Mokuba's fear of that near-death experience has him clinging to Seto.
"PEGASUS! Enough fooling around; show yourself!"
On the other side of the room, across the gap, Maximillion Pegasus appears from the darkened hallway, laughing to himself. He's just as the boys remember him.
"Just as annoying as always," Seto mutters.
"Oh, Kaiba-boy, where's the love? We've been through so much together! Aren't you happy to see me, after so long~?"
Seto grimaces, mirroring Mokuba's expression beside him. The younger is the first to respond.
"Shut up, Pegasus! We're not here to catch up with a low-life like you!! My bro is here to duel you, so you leave us alone for good!"
"Ohhh~? And what have I done to earn so much ire from you, boys~?"
The Kaibas grit their teeth. Seto responds this time.
"It's a long list. But you know why we're here now: you've been buying up my company's shares like cheap candy." Seto points dramatically at Pegasus.
"Not to mention- you're the only other person who could possibly have scared the world with those monster holograms."
"Is that so~? You boys know that my little arenas aren't nearly as advanced as your Solid Vision... are you sure you aren't just blaming me to hide your own responsibility for it? Maybe you're just scared about those monsters being real, hmm~?" Pegasus chuckles to himself, raising his arms in a caricature of a shrug and shaking his head. It really pisses Seto off.
"AS IF! Everything has an explanation, and monsters being real is impossible!"
Mokuba, however, picks up on something else in Pegasus's response.
"What do you mean, our responsibility for all of this?? We already told everyone KC's instruments had nothing to do with it!"
Pegasus continues to chuckle, lowering his arms. As always, he's condescending to his opponents.
"I'll tell you if your big brother can beat me in a Duel, Mokuba-boy~. But don't forget what happened last time you dueled me... and how you lost your souls~!"
Seto growls, clenching his fist, then takes a breath to steady himself.
"I don't want to hear it- you're just reminding us of old humiliations to try and rile me up before the Duel, so that I'll make mistakes. It won't work."
"That's old news, Pegasus- like you should be!" Seto brandishes his Duel Disk, and it activates, pieces swiftly moving into its Duel-ready position.
Pegasus gives them a hearty laugh, then spreads his arms in front of him. "You're right- it's time for the rematch of the century!"]

Thunder rumbles overhead once more as both Yugi and his Other draw their opening hands.
The two stand on opposite sides of the circles carved into the canyon floor, a mirror of one another.
It should never have come to this.
Yugi goes first and sets a monster face down.
"Partner, I don't want to fight you," the Other protests, even as he summons forth Gazelle, King of Mythical Beasts. As much as it pains him to, he orders the monster to attack Yugi's set monster. On the field, his Gazelle digs its teeth and claws into another King of Mythical Beasts. "The same monster--?!" Other Yugi gasps. He looks down at the cards in his hand and wonders.
Yugi draws for his turn, and again ends with only a single monster set facedown on his field.
Other Yugi draws. His heart pounds in his chest. He activates Polymerization, fusing his Gazelle with Berformet in his hand to form Chimera, the Flying Mythical Beast. He then summons Alpha, the Magnet Warrior. Chimera attacks, sending Yugi's Sangan to the graveyard. Sure enough, that card is in his own hand, too. The Other Yugi hesitates, staring at his Partner's empty field as Yugi adds a monster to his hand for Sangan's effect. Then he takes a deep breath, before ordering the Magnet Warrior to attack directly.
This doesn't make sense.
If they have the same hand, then why didn't Yugi use Monster Reborn? He should have ended his last turn with his own Chimera on the field. That's not a mistake that his Partner would make.
Yugi draws for his turn. "this isn't going to work if we have the same hand," he sighs. He sets a card face down, then plays Card Destruction, demanding both players to discard their hand a draw anew. "there. different hands, different paths, different hearts."
"Partner, why are you acting like this?!" Other Yugi cries. "This isn't you!!"
"of course it is. i'm the reflection of your heart. if your heart is filled with darkness, then so am i."
"No..."
"this is your weakness, other me. you're arrogant. you care too much about your pride, you only want to do things your way. you don't want to face me, so you think i should quit to protect your feelings. you can't save anyone if you're a coward who's afraid to get hurt!"
The cards in the Other's hand shake.
"and you were a king that ruled over people?? what a joke."
"Stop it, Partner!!! I don't want to fight you!!!!"
Yugi looks down at his fresh hand. A sad smile comes to his face, his eyes softening. He takes one card, gazing at it between his fingers. "why is this card in my deck....?"
Other Yugi gasps.
No.
No no no no no.
It can't be.
"oh yeah. i'm a mirror that reflects your heart... your choices..." The field card slot on his DuelDisk slides open, and Yugi places the card inside.
"Don't--!!"
Bright, teal light engulfs him. The Seal of Orichalcos spreads out across the field, trapping both Duelists.
Yugi's eyes turn red as he narrows them at his opponent.
"let's finish this, nameless pharaoh."
Yugi activates his set card, Monster Reborn. Dark Magician girl, discarded by Card Destruction, appears on the field. Like Yugi's, her eyes glow red as she stares down the Other. Yugi summons Obnoxious Celtic Guardian beside her. With the Orichalcos boosting their attack, they're more than enough to destroy the Other's monsters, bringing his lifepoints down to 3100.
Berformet returns to the field from Chimera's effect, and the Other draws for his turn.
He wants to scream. But he summons Big Shield Gardna in defense mode instead.
Yugi summons Queen's knight, then plays Magic Formula to raise Dark Magician Girl's attack. The Other's defenses are useless again, easily destroyed for Celtic Guardian to attack directly.
Now, Other Yugi screams.
"what's wrong, other me?" the way the words drip off Yugi's tongue turn the Other's stomach.
"Partner, stop--"
"no way. i'm just getting started. you wouldn't stop now, would you?"
The Other grits his teeth. It's his turn again.
He doesn't want to do this.
He sets one card face down and summons Giant Soldier of Stone in defense, then plays Swords of Revealing Light. He can stop Yugi's attacks for three turns. He can buy himself time to find another way out of this Duel.
But Yugi chuckles, and the sound chills the Other to his core.
"that's really cute, but i think you know this next one."
Yugi sacrifices Celtic Guardian to summon Catapult Turtle, and the Other watches in horror. He knows this tactic. It's the exact same move that he used against Raphael. The move that he had pridefully destroyed himself with.
"Don't do this. You don't have to do this!! Dont throw you monsters away, Partner, you're better than this! You're better than me!!"
Yugi smirks. "so you admit it then? you admit that you're evil? that you threw away everything you said you loved?" He sacrifies Queen's Knight to Catapult Turtle's effect, launching her past the Swords and into the Other's lifepoints, bringing them down to only 200.
The Other Yugi trembles. Is this what he looked like when he fought Raphael? That wicked, cruel look on Yugi's face now? Is this how all of his enemies have felt, staring down their final moments in his attacks?
"Partner, please!! I can't lose this, or-- Or everyone! Everyone will lose! Doma will kill everyone!"
"oh, now you care about other people?"
Yugi orders Dark Magician girl into the Catapult for his final direct attack.
The Other's heart breaks.
He doesn't want to do this.
He doesn't want to win if it means killing his beloved Partner.
He doesn't have a choice, though.
With a scream of frustration, the Pharaoh flips over his set card: Divine Wind. At the very last second, Yugi's attack is reflected, sent back at him twice as strong.
Yugi's eyes widen. Then soften.
A smile finds its way across his lips as the attack hits, and his own lifepoints drop to 0.
"you won after all, other me," he says as he falls to his knees. "i'm glad...."
The Other Yugi races across the field to scoop the fallen Yugi in his arms. Tears stream freely from his eyes now as he holds his other half close against his chest. Wasn't he just a hollow ghost before? He holds him closer.
"I'm sorry," he sobs. "Partner, I'm sorry."
"why? you passed the test, other me," Yugi says weakly as the Seal fades from his forehead, and the one that surrounds them closes in. "you beat me, even though it hurt you. you put saving the world before your own feelings. you won."
"What now though, Partner? What am I supposed to do now?!"
"keep going." The Seal grows tighter. As the light leaves his violet eyes Yugi utters three last words. "i love you."
The Other chokes. "Yugi--" He hugs his lifeless Partner close as he cries. "Yugi--"
"Yugi--"
Wait.
That's not him calling his Partner's name--
------------
------------
"Yugi!! Yugi, wake up!!"
The Other Yugi groans. His eyes open slowly, only for him to wince against the blinding light above.
"Oh thank god, you're alive!!!" Téa cries.
He sits up to find her kneeling beside him. Surrounding them both are pieces of jagged and twisted metal, not far away lie the larger remnants of the mangled train where he'd dueled Weevil.
"Was that... A dream...?" he wonders aloud as he rubs his head. Every muscle in his body aches and screams. Then he gasps. "Téa! You're bleeding!"
"Huh?! Oh!" Téa looks down at herself, her torn shorts, and shakes her head. "It's just some scrapes and bruises, I'm fine! It could've been a lot worse...." She trails off as she looks toward the wreckage. "Are you okay though?!"
The Other Yugi draws his legs to sit cross-legged in the sand as he blinks a few times, takes stock of his situation, and remembers Yugi.
Was that really just a dream?
It felt so real.
He can still feel Yugi, limp in his arms, and his stomach twists.
Far above the chasm where the two recover, Raphael frowns. So, the Pharaoh did survive.
He'll have to change that.

[ BC Chat Room ]

[ The main screen of the stream shows an ominous ghostly green skull hovering above Sacramento City. A berth of destruction could be seen around the California Supreme Court, the only intact building in the area. The roars of monsters and cries of people echo through the thoroughly demolished city. A long wurm-like creature wrapped around the ruins of a skyscraper opens its maw towards the building. Light collects and coalesces into an orb within its mouth - its sweltering heat melts the concrete it's next to. It then swings its head back as if to fire - Only for a lance of neon green to nail the wurm's mouth shut, sending both it and the ruined skyscraper into the ground. The world shakes violently as the orb detonates within the creature's mouth - its light overwhelming the camera. Falling dirt rains from the sky with only a large broad crater to mark the creature's death. Hovering where the creature once stood was a man wearing a green hoodie with a skull similar to the one in the sky. His body glowed with an iridescent green. And in his hand was an ornate spear crackling with neon-colored lightning, the same spear that struck the wurm's mouth shut. With glowing eyes, he gives the remains a final look before zipping out of view in a surge of green. The camera moves to follow.
----
Boomer-oh (v): Okay. I can't watch anymore. Watching how many times I should've died might actually give me a heart attack before this whole thing is over. Thank you, mysterious green man / duel monster / whatever.
BanditKLives (v): God. You're in the Sacramento shelter too? Ugh. I know exactly how you feel.
KuriBoom (v): I'm telling you I saw the angel of Los Angeles in person. She has these like light wings and woooosh, smashing up all those dragons with her hammer like it's nothing.
LordofTheNight (v): Wait. You think that's impressive? We got a giant vampire defending the city in San Francisco. At least I'm pretty sure it's a vampire. Can't really tell because he moves so fast, but holy shit he's tall like small-building tall.
LordofTheNight (v): Anyway, fucking vampires fighting dragons. Still feels like I'm still dreaming.
[ A in-line video is posted in chat from LordofTheNight. A military installation with tanks could be seen in the background. An incredibly tall figure - almost a story tall - slams a tanbo underneath an even taller two-headed dinosaur's chin. The force of the blow lifts the creature up into the air. Despite the dinosaur's speedy snaps and slashes, the dinosaur fails to hit its elusive target every single time. And then a flurry of blows from the tanbo strikes the creature so quickly it seemed like they were all performed at the same time. A moment later, the creature collapses with broken body and shattered limbs. The moment it hits the ground, it shatters into shards of light. An enormous fireball strikes down where the humanoid figure just was immediately after, his figure still blurry from the speed which he moved. Briefly, the camera loses track of the speedy figure, only to hear the sound of another draconic roar. The roar is cut short with the sound of something cracking. And immediately in front of the camera, a long Eastern dragon falls onto the earth with a earth-rendering thud. It too shatters into light. On top of a broken skyscraper and under the backdrop of stormy skies, the tall gray vampire is seen in all of his glory, only to turn into a blur once more.
SunnyDay (v): You think that's crazy? I've got a literal skeleton army fighting dragons and lizards outside. And a freaky green-wearing necromancer controlling them all.
LordofTheNight (v): Don't necromancers wear black or something? Like they're all emo or shit?
SunnyDay (v): Well, clearly someone didn't get the memo. Besides I think if you own a skeleton army that can beat up a bunch of dragons, I think you can wear anything you fucking want.
[ An in-line video is posted by SunnyDay. It's clear that the video was taken from the BC Stream chat. A coastline and an air strip are seen. After a quick zoom-in, several skeletons wearing various sets of clothes are charging the dragons along the skyline. Colorful beams of light blast through the dragons attempting to make landfall, putting large holes into the creatures and shattering them into motes of light. The dragons retaliate similarly with fiery blazes and icy projectiles. Meanwhile, the apparent green-clad necromancer engages up close and dispatches several of the hostile monsters in a flurry of colorful red chef's knives. Another human-sized skeleton, tall and lanky and wearing an orange sweater, slams its foot straight into a scaly blue dragon diving face-first at it. The large dragon immediately contorts and flattens like a train slamming into an immovable wall with the sound of crunching bone accompanying it. The broken dragon begins to fall out of the sky before it shatters into motes of light. ]
ExodiaTheForgottenOne (v): Are we absolutely sure that it's not KaibaCorp's SolidVision gone haywire? Cause that whole shattering light thing is like SolidVision's thing.
BlueEyesBlondeDragon (v): For the last time, SolidVision is incapable of being physical like this. You should know better since you've been on the Sketchy stream for so long. And also if we're sharing end-of-the-world stories...
BlueEyesBlondeDragon (v): I was in an airplane that was headed back to Japan, but after all the monsters appeared, we tried to U-turn and fly back to California. Except we had a whole bunch of angry monsters after us. I'm pretty sure we got saved by the angel of Los Angeles.
BlueEyesBlondeDragon (v): One second.
[ An in-line video is posted in chat by BlueEyesBlondeDragon. The video is clearly taken from a phone camera. Quiet panicked murmurs and prayers could be heard. The camera is looking out the airplane window and at the plane's right wing. A large blue winged dragon, one that could be recognized as the Winged Dragon of Duel Monsters fame, is diving straight for the aircraft. Screaming could be heard within the airplane cabin as the plane attempts to futilely veer away from the quickly approaching monster. And then a yellow flash crashed straight into the creature, slamming it straight towards the sea. The figure hovers briefly with its bright wings of light, hammer in a two-handed grip. Surrounded by light and with stalwart frame, the redheaded angel of Los Angeles strikes a prominent figure against the stormy skies. Another approaching dragon dives for her but is suddenly struck down in a brilliant flash. Only when the thunder was heard did people realize that it was lightning that smote the dragon down. By the time the camera recovers from the glare, the angel of Los Angeles is gone. "We're saved!" "Praise the lord!" ]

so far how i feel about doma is that YGO R is the doma arc for the manga with a lot of shared concepts between the two, but so far i think i like how R handled them more because it is so much more grounded in comparison, which is quite a feat but if anything could make R look normal it's doma

☆ KNY DEMONS x fem! upper moon reader
n.o.t.e.s - the sword arc was so delicious to watch literally, I just wanted to write something tbh. 📢
w.a.r.n - some crack energy, fluff, doma being a menace to society,
w.c. - 753
Tumblr media
The strings of the biwa ranged throughout the infinite castle, summoning the upper moons to the castle.
From those few, you were already there due to Muzan's orders. You were trying to busy yourself playing with your h/c hair, waiting for the upper moons to span in.
It was pretty boring for you; you couldn't sit on the floor because of how uncomfortable it was because you managed to disobey his orders by helping some hashira. It was even a miracle that you didn't die because you managed to do it every time; some demons thought you were in a relationship with Muzan, so it wouldn't be surprising.
You were bored out of your mind, trying to converse with Nakime, "So Nakime wanna go out after this meeting" you chimed, clapping your hands together, looking at the biwa lady.
You lifted your head to see a upper moons before you, "That was quick," you murmured; you heard a familiar annoying voice saying your name.
"Y/N-chan," Doma's voice ranged out, his hand touching your shoulder; he irked everything in your body, "Did you miss me, y/n-chan" he gave you a toothy smile, and you looked at him with disgust.
"Don't be like that, Y/n-chan. Maybe we can go to my place and-' Soon, you found Doma's head on the castle's floor, thanks to Akaza.
His whole body was irked by Doma's presence, "Thank you, akaza" You gave him a smile that made Akaza blush, and his once-white face turned red.
You heard Doma's whines in the background calling your name
"It was no problem" he placed a hand behind his back, looking away from you.
You soon saw Daki and Gyutaro span in the castle, "Y/N!" Daki yelled at you before tackling you into a hug.
"Hey Daki" you smiled, patting her head.
"Y/N, I missed you," she sang out, burying herself into you, "Maybe if you're not busy, you we have a makeover," she exclaimed, "Sure," you smiled, "Daki, what about me" Doma whined.
"Go kill yourself, you perv," Daki yelled while protectively holding you, "Oh, hi Gyutaro" You smiled at him, and you waved at him supporting Daki's weight.
Gyutaro's cheeks turned light pink, and you giggled from the reaction.
Soon Daki got pulled away from you by her brother; the upper moon one caught your eye, and you walked up to him, "Hi, kokushibo" you exclaimed, he was mostly quiet, but you manage to get the word out of his mouth.
He looked at you briefly before muttering a 'hello' and walking away. You eventually saw Hantengu on the floor, cowardly to himself, and Gyokko talking to Doma with his regrown new head.
A swift wind made your h/c hair blow back as all the upper moons bowed to their demon lord, which appeared out of nowhere. You just stood there looking stupid, "Oh, Muzan finally you here; I was getting bored," you muttered still standing, crossing your arm, cocking your head at him.
The uppermoons were astonished at what you just said to Muzan, you're probably the only one that manage to get away with disrespecting Muzan without getting punished or even dying.
You saw Muzan's eyebrow switching at your comment; you smiled from the reaction.
He shot you a glare before your hand was force by what it felt like air to sit down but, which led to your face buried into the tatami floor.
It earned from sniggers from the upper moons before everyone was silenced by Muzan.
The meeting was quick and short by Muzan degrading all the upper moons except Kokushibo; your head was still stuck as you struggled.
You manage to get your head help by someone grabbing onto your waist and pulling you out of the floor. Whoever this hero was you were probably grateful, because Muzan manage to get your head really stuck to the floor.
But unfortunately for you, it was Doma, holding your waist. "Y/n-chan, we should do this more often" he exclaimed before you punched his head away from you.
Forcing his grip on your waist away before you whipped your head to the loud voice of Daki and Akaza charging to Doma's headless body.
"Get your hands off her, you pervert" Daki and Akaza yelled before jumping Doma.
There were crushing the stronger demon; you deadpanned at the sight. While the upper moons was busy, Gyutaro was laughing at seeing Doma being attacked by Akaza and his sister.
It was pure chaos.

I tried to re-interpret/recreate some scenes from Yugioh DM: fan art series
Tumblr media
#3. Episode 167 - When you need someone with power to listen to you
Amelda/Alister is one of the characters who have the best portrayal in the entire Yugioh franchise combined. I love how the Doma arc portrays the way he projects his despair, agony, and frustration towards Kaiba brothers.
Although Amelda longs for a revenge and the total destruction of the entire humanity, what he actually needs is anyone with power to listen to him. This ulterior motive begins to reveal itself when he gets Seto to go through a hallucinatory firsthand experience of many war orphans. At the end of the re-match with Kaiba, Amelda even gives Seto a "chance" to prove his ability to save Mokuba from certain death. He wouldn't even have bothered to do so if he only saught to avenge Kaiba brothers. Deep inside Amelda knows that it is pointless to avenge Seto who isn't responsible for the death of his family; and that Seto is courageous and determined enough to make any actual difference once Amelda's desperate outcry is heard.

Not a Rematch- a Duel for Revenge! Alister Revealed Pt. 2
[After Seto accused the person Dueling him of not being Pegasus- "Even [he] wouldn't be stupid enough to copy our first duel to the letter!"- the Musketeer of Doma, Alister, removed his disguise and began using his real deck. For his first draw, Alister sealed himself and Seto inside of the Seal of Orichalcos, a field spell that would take the "soul" of whoever lost. It terrified Mokuba, who was left outside of its radius of effect.
After demonstrating the effect of the Seal and his new monster, Alister launches into a long explanation of his story, why he's chosen to attack Seto and his company: when KaibaCorp was still controlled by Gouzaburo, their weapons of war destroyed Alister's home... and killed his little brother. Since that day, Alister has wanted nothing but revenge.
Mokuba countered that Seto took the company to redeem it, to help people, orphan children like them most of all! But Alister wouldn't hear it. Seto Kaiba, or whoever lead the Kaiba Corporation, had to die; it was the money of the company that fueled the war that killed his brother, and the Kaibas are its heirs.
And so the Duel continued.
Alister activated a trap that disabled all other Traps while it was on the field, crippling Seto's strategy, and forced Seto to end his turn with only Pitch-Dark Dragon in Defense Mode and a useless Crush Card Virus on his field.
Alister's turn. He drew, then attacked the Pitch-Dark Dragon with Gorlag, his ace monster, using its effect to resurrect the Dragon and bring it to his side of the field in his end phase; and, without any defenses, attacked Seto with his own resurrected Versago the Destroyer. Seto's LP fell to 400.
Seto was in a bad position. He needed just one card in his deck to eke out the win...
And he drew it. Seto smirked.
Seto plays Card of Demise in order to draw three cards (bringing his hand to five), and draws a combo that should work. Using White Dragon Ritual, Seto discards a Blue-Eyes in order to directly summon Paladin of White Dragon- then plays Monster Reborn to bring that Blue-Eyes back onto his field. A much better position.
Paladin of White Dragon attacks the stolen Pitch-Dark Dragon (now in Attack Mode due to Gorlag's effect), causing Gorlag to become weak enough to be destroyed with Blue-Eyes White Dragon. When the dust settles, Alister is left defenseless, now, with only 1200 LP.
But Seto isn't done! Paladin of White Dragon can be sacrificed in order to Special Summon a Blue-Eyes White Dragon from his hand or deck! Seto crosses his arms in front of his chest as he is flanked by his Blue-Eyes.
"You told me before that I couldn't win- how do those words taste, knowing the worst is yet to come?"
Alister's turn. He huffs at Seto, "You're so predictable," and uses Pot of Greed to draw two cards.
Then, Alister activates the spell card Aetonyx Flame, destroying all monsters that don't have the FIRE-Attribute: both Blue-Eyes White Dragons! And, it resurrects Gorlag in Attack Mode. But Alister has another trick: Fire Whip! Fire Whip returns all monsters destroyed this turn to Alister's side of the field, as FIRE-Attribute monsters (which buff Gorlag by 500ATK each). Seto now faces down his own Blue-Eyes, infused with dark power from the Seal, and a monster just as strong.
Seto is incredulous, panicking a little, and shouts in betrayal, "NO! Those Blue-Eyes are mine, how dare you use them against me?!" Memories of his fateful duel with Yugi, where the same thing happened, flash behind his eyes.
Alister is now the one in the smug posture, smirking. "It's the perfect revenge, isn't it? Soon, I'll use your own favorite monsters to take you down and feed your soul to our God."
Because Alister can't attack the turn he activated Aetonyx Flame. Seto still has a chance. Alister sets a card, and adds, "When you lose this, you'll suffer just like I did at the hands of your father. This will be your last draw!"]

"It's no use, you've already lost!" Weevil Underwood snickers as the Other Yugi draws for his turn. "This foolish king doesn't know when to give up!"
The Other Yugi shoots a glare in the insect Duelist's direction over the card he's just drawn. He summons Breaker, the Magical Warrior in attack mode. Though its attack points initially read 1600, they immediately raise to 1900.
Weevil grins. He activates a trap card, Infestation, that lowers the attack of every monster on both their fields by 100, and inflicts that loss as damage to the owner's lifepoints. Yugi's drop to 500, Weevil's to 3800.
"Oh that's right, I said I'd tell you how to save your partner after this duel, didn't I? But you're going to lose when you end your turn and Poison Butterfy saps your last 500 points!!! What a shame, the look on your face would've been priceless!"
Other Yugi doesn't flinch this time. This pest has been trying to burrow under his skin the entire Duel, he won't let him crawl inside now. He stares his enemy down with abhorrence in his eyes.
But Weevil doesn't stop talking.
"It's killing me not to say it!! Okay, you know what! This Duel is decided, and it's not like your butch little girlfriend over there can save him without you!!"
"Hey!! Come over here and say that to my face, you worm!" shouts Téa from her place on the next traincar down.
"Calm down already, I'm trying to be nice!" Weevil snaps. "Little Yugi's soul is sealed inside a card, and I know where to find it~"
"Why would I believe a lying pest like you anyway?" the Other Yugi hisses.
"Because~~~ My new employer trusted me to win so much--" as he speaks, Weevil reaches his free hand into the pocket of his shorts. After a few agonizing moments, he holds up a Duel Monsters card, reversed, showing Yugi only the back. "--he gave it to me!! Thought I might need a hostage to get your fighting spirit up again, oh Nameless Pharaoh ! Hyuk hyuk hyuk!"
Time seems to stop, even as the scenery rushes past the speeding train.
Other Yugi's eyes go wide.
His heart skips a beat.
Could it be...?
No.
It's more of Weevil's psychological warfare.
Just more taunting.
But could it be...?
Would Doma have really just handed him Yugi's soul?
That was ridiculous--
But it was always the Pharaoh they really wanted--
So could it be--
"You're about to join him anyway, but the least I can do is let you hold onto your precious little partner while I crush you. Come and get him~~" Weevil waves the card back and forth, tauntingly.
Absently, possessed by desperate desire to see his other half again, Other Yugi takes a step forward.
"Yugi, what are you doing?!" Téa gasps.
Weevil laughs. "Wow, it's that easy?! We're in the middle of a Duel! You can come get him but you're gonna forfeit if you do, you know~~!!!! Hyuk hyuk hyuk!!"
Other Yugi stops dead in his tracks, but his eyes stay wide. Téa's voice behind him feels far away. Everything feels far away
His eyes fix on that card.
His chest feels tight, and his pulse pounds in his ears.
It's just another trick, right?
Is it really Yugi...?
He steps back.
"That's what I thought. Well! Since you don't want it, let's get back to the game!" As he speaks, Weevil takes the card between both hands. "No more distractions~"
The cardstock tears easily, straight down the middle.
And Other Yugi's heart stops.
His stomach drops, the blood freezes in his veins.
An agonized scream tears from his throat. The cards in his hand bend as he clenches around them, bringing one fist to his head, the other to his chest.
Weevil just laughs as he lets the two halves go flying off in the rushing wind.
It takes him a few seconds to regain himself, to drops his hands and raise his head. But when he does, it isn't sorrow on Other Yugi's face anymore as he stares down his enemy.
His breaths come as ragged growls, his body shaking with rage. There's murder in his violet red eyes.
"Holy shit, you should see yourself right now. Seriously! You look like some kind of wild animal, hyuk hyuk hyuk!!! That's no face for a king! And over a useless Pillroach, too!"
"What?!" Other Yugi roars.
"Do you seriously think I'd just rip up a card like that? Yugi's soul??? That would be the most valuable card on Earth!!!!! You really are a stupid king, maybe that's why they really erased your name."
"You're the fucking worst!!!" Téa shouts.
"It was a joke! Not my fault you guys are so sensitive!"
But Other Yugi is still shaking with wild rage. "I'll kill you, you bug!" he snaps.
Weevil's laughter stops.
Yugi activates Breaker the Magical Warrior's effect, destroying the Insect Barrier that's been preventing him from attacking. That effect costs Breaker its attack upgrade, dropping it down to 1500. Then, he can attack again with the very Poison Butterfly that Weevil had given him, destroying the only monster protecting the Insect Duelist. Then he attacks again, sending Breaker directly at Weevil's lifepoints.
As the dust clears, Weevil smirks. "That's it? You don't have any monsters left to attack, and Poison Butterfly's effect will drain you out....!!!" He giggles gleefully. "So I still win!!"
"I didn't say 'turn end'," Other Yugi growls.
Weevil steps back. "Now you're bullshitting!!" he cries.
Other Yugi activities a spell called Berserker Soul. He has to discard his entire hand, but that's just fine.
This is the last turn, anyway.
Berserker Soul's effect lets him keep drawing and discarding from his deck, attacking with a monster on his field whose attack is 1500 or less every time, until he draws a non-monster card.
And Breaker's attack sits at 1500 now.
The Pharaoh draws, and Queen's Knight is promptly discarded. Breaker attacks, dropping Weevil's lifepoints from 2200 to a measly 700.
Yugi draws again.
Gazelle the Mythical Beast.
Weevil's lifepoints drop to 0.
But the Pharaoh isn't done. He draws again. Big Shield Gardna goes into the graveyard, Breaker attacks, and Weevil screams.
The Seal of Orichalcos makes every attack real, inflicting pain beyond any solid vision hologram.
But Other Yugi isn't done.
Alpha, the Magnet Warrior.
Weevil screams again.
Yugi draws again, Dark Magician Girl.
Weevil screams.
And Yugi draws again, another monster.
Another monster.
Another monster.
Another--
Finally, Téa's seen enough. This isn't the Yugi she knows. This isnt the Other Yugi she knows, either. She's seen his Shadow Games, she's seen him at his cruelist before. She was there, though blindfolded, when this same man set an escaped convict on fire to save her. She knows what he's capable of.
But this?
This gruesome overkill, this feedback loop of violence he's caught in now?
This isn't him.
"Yugi stop, you already won!!!!!!" she screams. Despite the wind of the speeding train, she jumps across to the car where Yugi and Weevil duel grabbing her friend's hand as the Seal of Orichalcos shrinks in on Weevil.
"Let me go!!" Other Yugi cries.
"You already won! His lifepoints are zero! It's over, please!!! You're spiraling!" Téa begs.
The look in the Pharaoh's eyes is wild as he tries to catch his breath. He's panting, shaking.
Across the field, Weevil is already on his knees, the Seal already faded.
As stillness falls, Other Yugi is able to pull away from his friend's grip. He charges across the traincar to shake a lifeless Weevil by his shoulders. "I won. You promised, so tell me! Where's my Partner!!" Tears stream down his face as Other Yugi begs. "Tell me where my Partner is!!! You promised!!!! Answer me!!!"
Téa's heart breaks. "He... He's gone.. You know that--"
The Pharaoh screams again, shaking Weevil's lifeless body harder. "Weevil!!!!!!" he cries. "Where is my Partner?!?!?! Where is he!!!!!!!"
"Yugi stop!!!!"
Finally, the Other Yugi lets go of his enemy. He falls back onto his own knees, staring helplessly at his own hands.
No.
These aren't his knees.
These aren't his hands.
Téa comes closer, putting a nervous hand on his trembling shoulder. But what can she say...?
As she searches for the words, the runaway train cuts her off with a sharp, loud whine as it rounds a bend. A sound like an explosion splits the air as the brakes give way.
It's all she can do to scream his name again as the traincar, with Yugi, Téa, and Weevil's lifeless body atop, go careening off a cliff.

Emergency Alert System :: FEMA Emergency Action Notification
[ This is an Emergency Action Notification. ]
[ We interrupt our program at the request of the White House. This is a national emergency. The President of the United States or his designated representative will appear shortly over the Emergency Broadcast System. ]
[ The president of the United States appears on screen. The usual White House office is not visible, and a more dimly lit area without windows is identified. ]
"This nation has come under attack by unknown creatures, mostly reptilian in apperance. They are incredibly hostile to all human beings and seek to kill whoever they attack. The creatures come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from the size of an average human to a small building. Some of them even have fantastical appearances such as dragons and dinosaurs. This may all seem unreal, but that is currently what is happening right now."
"The attacks are occurring worldwide. We do not know what the purpose is, only that the creatures are determined to eradicate humans. The military has been deployed to fight back against these creatures. However, their sudden attack and numbers make it difficult to mount an effective counterassault.
"Once again, these creatures are highly dangerous. It is advised that if you are already indoors to find the lowest level and stay there. Do not go near the windows. Do not appear visibly present from the outside. These creatures will attempt to break in if they notice you.
"If you are outside, it is advised to go indoors immediately. If you are travelling via public transportation or car, it is advised you stop and do your best to hide if no buildings are available."
"We will get through this. Our great nation will fight for its people. We will do our best to keep everyone safe. Thank you."
[ This concludes our Emergency Action Notification. The message will be repeated in the following languages... ]
----
Los Angeles City Hall - Revision: Town Hall Website
To those that still alive and can read this, the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Los Angeles is a safe haven from the monster attacks. We have an angel here from god here that is combatting the monsters with all her strength, delivering justice with her mighty hammer and smiting these devils.
Many are currently taking refuge at the aquarium. Before our angel appeared, we are not sure why it has been left undamaged. Maybe it is because this is a holy place that hides us from the monsters' senses.
I repeat, if you are in the surrounding areas looking for shelter, head to the Aquarium of the Pacific if you can safely do so. Otherwise, stay where you are.
----
Honolulu Capital City Hall Website
All fights to and from Hawaii are grounded until further notice.
There has been severe disruptions to public transit and internet architecture.
If you are reading this, a safe zone has been established at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. We are however currently in the middle of a conflict between the sea monsters in the area and an unknown number of skeletal creatures. It is unclear whether these skeleton creatures are hostile to humans, though their actions have benefits us by combatting the definitively hostile sea monsters.
We advise to avoid the sea and air routes in the area until further notice.
----
Alameda Naval Air Station - San Francisco, CA - Military Orders
Memo: Golden Gate Bridge has fallen. Make appropriate accomodations.
A safe zone has been established at the Transamerica Pyramid. We have teams Metalhead, Seabound, and Crisis manning the defensive line. Reinforcements have been delayed due to the collapse of Golden Gate Bridge.
Small caliber firearms are ineffective against most creatures. Artillery and explosion munitions are required against medium-to-large monsters. Close combat is not advised.
There is currently an unknown entity that does not match the description of the reptilian creatures we are fighting. Allegiance unknown, and those who play the game Duel Monsters here are unfamiliar with the humanoid entity. As of right now, the entity's actions are benefiting us as they seem capable to take down a number of creatures solo. Do not engage if seen in the area and only assist if the entity appears to be in dire straits. If this entity's actions become hostile, let Baseplate know immediately.
----
Sacramento City Hall Website
The primary emergency shelter, the California State Capital, has been destroyed in the fighting. The secondary emergency shelter, the California Supreme Court, is currently full and cannot accomodate more people.
If you are in the Sacramento area, please stay put inside the building you are in. On top of the fighting between the military and monsters, there is an unknown green-glowing Duel Monster that is combating the monsters. A floating green skull marks his location. Avoid the area if you are currently in a safe place.
----
Domino City Museum || Domino City Hall
If you are reading this, there are designated safe zones established in Domino City. If you are close to either area, please either head for the Domino City Museum or the Kame Game Shop. Preferably the Domino City Museum given the lack of space at the Kame Game Shop.
Praise be to the King of Games.

Explanation and reiteration, my dear Nashu! The other blue bird of despair site has been humbugging upon Dawntrail. Comparing it to Stormblood under, from what I gather to be, negative implications. Which lead me to hijack this whiplash response to the yet to be released new expansion. And see how everyone feels about each chunk of the story. Firstly, there was A Realm Reborn. Which...the general consensus is, its enjoyable and important its basically the foundation laid upon the ground to build Heavensward, Stormblood, and much more upon. Without it, we would be nothing but with it we are everything.
Then I asked about Heavensward which seems, overwhelming positive but not without a few addendums hither and tither.
But now, we reach Stormblood. An expansion that chose to split its focus between the freeing of both Ala Mhigo AND Doma from the Garlean Empire. Introducing the home lands of the Au Ra who had been around since Heavensward at that point in the form of the underwater city of Sui-no-Sato for the Raen and the Azim Steppe for the Xaela Tribes. As well as pulling the rug up from under us with the change of Yda suddenly to Lyse.
Stormblood! The expansion which spent its Post-MSQ bouncing between both and then seeking out brand new areas on each country. Some beneath the Ala Mhigan Castle in the form of Skalla. Others far, far, far out into the Burn west of Yanxia. Still further, we explored Ivalice, Dalmasca, and other provinces similarly seeking freedom from Garlean rule at the time. Both suddenly taking a sharp left with "The Call" as friends drop comatose before our eyes and we set the stage for Shadowbringers.
It introduced Zenos, under water diving, and a variety of elements and stylings to the MSQ. But what did you think of it? Either at the time before any aether current changes, QoL shifts, or the dungeons being able to be run with trusts or as it is today?

I have a prompt request! Can you do Inukag for “it was an accident” “it definitely wasn’t” ? Thank you!!
So I finally got around to this! I heard the call that fluff was needed and I aim to provide! Look what you did @brain-rot-hour...
Tumblr media
Some post-canon domestic angst (barely) to
fluffy mc fluff!
1020 words || Post-canon || Married InuKag
The door covering of the hut flapped behind her as she stomped into the doma, removing her shoes just before stepping up onto the raised floor. She was stripping out of her clothes as she went, her mood less than sunny. There were decidedly wet plops on the flooring as each piece hit the wood.
The hanyou that followed her had his ears laid flat to his head as he peeked around the reed mat after his very stormy wife. He knew better than to say anything yet, opting to slip in silently and wait. He too was soaking wet, but he could wait it out.
Inuyasha held his tongue until she was in dry clothes, a towel in hand to dry her hair. She made no overtures to give him a towel and that was probably fair. He slowly peeled out of his suikan, hanging it up on the hook by the door. The spot he was supposed to hang it, but usually forgot. He made a point to wipe his feet before stepping any further in.
“It was an accident,” he murmured finally, ears still flat to his head as he stood and watched her dry her hair while pointedly not looking at him. He could see the increase of tension in her shoulders and neck as she heard his words.
“It definitely wasn’t,” she replied in a hushed growl. He opened his mouth to respond, then thought better of it. He peeled off his hakama instead, hanging those by the suikan so they would drip dry for now. In nothing but his kosode and fundoshi, he felt pretty vulnerable as he knelt down across from her. But he noticed that his change in attire and position had definitely lessened her intensity. “You know better than to swing Tetsusaiga around like that. We’re not fifteen anymore.” He bit his lip. She was right, of course. But she wasn’t taking everything into account.
“That beetle was huge, Kagome, it could have stepped on you. It’s different when regular animals get infested with a youkai. They get real big, but not much smarter.”
She pounded her fist with the towel down against the floor in a show of frustration. “You act like I don’t know that! Like I haven’t been doing this with you for more than five years now! I’m not a naive little teenager anymore, Inuyasha.”
“I know that,” he whispered. “I just… You could have been hurt. The pup could have been hurt.”
Inuyasha felt the nausea that had gripped him when the beetle the size of a house came out of the woods upon them, behind Kagome’s back and much more silently than its size would imply. He’d just reacted. Tetsusaiga was in hand, transformed, and swinging in a wide arc before he even had time to think about it. The rush of viscera had been wholly unpleasant and the only thing that had kept him from passing out from the noxious smell was knowing he needed to get Kagome clear and cleaned off.
She had been too stunned from what had happened to protest the dunk in the lake, squealing at the cold once it registered. Inuyasha tried to help her get clean, but she was too upset. So he let her do it herself, got himself clean, and then carried her home in this angry state. He wanted to bluster and yell back at her, but he was too worried about what it might do to her and their pup. Kaede and Sango had been very clear with him that he was not to upset her, especially in the later stages, as she could go into labor before it was time. So he had been holding his tongue a lot lately.
“I am pregnant, not an idiot. If you had moved us out of the way like you usually do and given me time to react, I could have gotten out of the way. As it is, you swinging that giant sword around could have been more dangerous than the beetle!”
He flinched when she did, her hand going to her belly.
A kick.
She wasn’t so far along that they needed to worry, but that didn’t mean he didn’t anyway. Inuyasha growled, standing. “I was protecting you. That’s what I do!”
“We protect each other, Inuyasha. I’m not a damsel in distress!”
“No, but you are my Mate and you are the mother of my unborn pup! I’m not going to apologize for protecting you both!”
It was Kagome’s turn to bite her tongue. Clenching her jaw, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath through her nose. “I am not upset at you for protecting me, Inuyasha. Or the baby. Of course I want us to be safe. I just need you to think first.”
Despite his irritation, he could see her point now. And he had been feeling guilty all along for accidentally covering her in bug guts…
“I will do my best to think first, then react.”
“Thank you. That’s all I ask.”
“That’s all?” he asked a little teasingly.
“And to help me get these tabi off. I can’t reach and they’re soaked and I hate them.”
He chuckled a little. “Give em here, princess.”
“Excuse you,” she protested.
“You’re lucky it’s me down here. There’s squishy bits between the toes.”
“Inuyasha! Gross!” she cried, lightly kicking at him. He laughed, tossing the tabi aside and catching her feet. He grabbed her towel and rubbed her feet dry. Then he held them in his lap and warmed them, lightly rubbing along the arches like he knew she needed. “Hm… Better.”
“The best, and you know it.”
“You’re lucky I can’t reach you from here right now.” He pressed his thumb a little more firmly into that spot he knew always hurt until he stretched it out. “Oh… Alright, fine. You’re forgiven,” she groaned, falling onto her elbows and letting her head fall back.
“Damn right.” She gave him a look. “Damn right, you’re beautiful?”
“Uh huh. Love you too, Dog Boy.”
Inuyasha’s face split into a grin. “Keh.”

Priority | Mitsuri Kanroji x Reader x Obanai Iguro
Tumblr media
Word Count | 4.0k
Warnings | Mentions of blood ig. No spoilers. Mentions of Doma (ew.) ANGST i didn’t mean for it to be, but it is what it is. Tears. Drama.
Summary |  After a mission goes wrong, you’re left to battle with something far worse than a demon: your emotions. Or in which Mitsuri and Obanai are kinda in love with you but you’re kinda broken.
part one | part two
∘₊✧───────────────────────────────────────✧₊∘
Your ribs trembled as you struggled to stay upright, each inhale more painful than the last. The wracking pain in your lungs gave way to the harrowing coughs leaving your lips as you wobbled precariously on your feet. The coppery tang of blood invaded your nose, ears ringing.
In front of you, the demon pranced about with his golden fans.
A particularly harsh cough burst forth from your throat, your hand gripping the nichirin sword in your grasp tighter as you propelled your feet forwards. Gotta keep moving. Can’t stop moving. The dewy grass beneath you turned to dust as you narrowly avoided another one of the demon’s attacks. You took a wide berth around the demon's form, trying to allow time for you to control your breathing. It became glaringly clear that this was no inconvenience for the monster.
“Now, now. Why put up such a fight?” The white-haired beast crooned, his eyes tracking your every move as you came to a stop, legs no longer able to fully support you. “If it’s any consolation, you’re not the first hashira I’ve killed. Oh no, far from the first. You know, you’re very pretty. It would be an honour to carry you with me for eternity…”
A crazed look crept onto the demon's face as you ground your teeth together, shaking your head to clear away the dark vignette bordering your vision. You ignored the throbbing pain in your ankle, forcing yourself not to stop. Every inch of you screamed for reprieve - begged for mercy. But you could not give in.
You had long since discarded your blood soaked haori, your sword was one strong blow from breaking and your vision was swimming with big black, ink-like blots.
You knew that one wrong move would spell the end.
Under the moon's guidance, you sought far into your soul, searching for a way to get out of this alive. Anything. From the deep nothingness of your mind popped a face, much like your own.
“My darling baby. Don’t stop. Never stop.” You blinked blearily at the person in front of you. Were you hallucinating? Is this what death felt like? Two warm hands cupped your cheeks, and suddenly you felt four years old again. “You need to snap out of it. You’re not going to die - not my girl. Not today.”
Your mothers voice was ringing in your ears. But as you went to grab for her, she vanished, leaving only the forest and carnage behind. A sob bubbled out of your mouth, wet tears dripping down your cheeks and mixing with your blood like some twisted painting. It had been too long since you had seen your family. Since they had…you vanquished the thought. You must have looked like a wreck as your gaze pinned onto the demon. His eyes widened in a childlike wonderment, his lips curling into a soft frown.
“Tears? Human emotion -”
You didn’t let him finish his monologue. Mustering all the strength left in your body, you darted forward, hair whipping everywhere as you recited the forms that you had said a thousand times before. A slicing pain came from your abdomen but you paid it no mind, just like the rest of the cuts and bruises now littering your body. You got closer and closer, each breath hurting like a jagged knife to the heart. But you didn’t stop, couldn’t stop. The final words of your twelfth form ripped from your lips and you barely registered as you swung your sword in an arc above your head. You were so close. The demon's neck was so close. From here, it would be like cutting cheese. It should’ve been like cutting cheese.
Solid force bashed against your sword, a loud metal THWANG echoing through the silent woods. Blood rained over you like a shower, hands shaking as you severed through the demon’s neck. The momentum drove you forward, and you were left stumbling onto your knees, head smashing against a rocky outcrop. Screaming was impossible, your throat felt so raw and stripped of skin that even muttering became impossible. Your body was on fire, burning you apart from your toes to your scalp. You couldn’t keep up your constant breathing anymore, lungs constricting rapidly inside your shuddering form. Something sharp poked inside of you. Maybe a broken rib or two or six. You could feel that your ankles were both broken, and your arms were like cooked ramen, floppy and useless.
The stars in the sky dimmed, or maybe that was just your vision slowly fading. Whatever it was, you welcomed the darkness. With the upper moon dead, you could resign yourself to death peacefully, knowing that you’d contributed to the efforts to defeat Muzan Kibitsuji. Or that’s what you thought.
“Oh my, you sure are stubborn.” Said a voice, breaking through the hazy cloud that had settled over your mind. “You nearly got me, you know? Pity that your sword couldn’t keep it up any longer.”
Terror hugged you like a ghost. He wasn’t dead. You hadn’t killed him. That sound…it had been your sword breaking. It didn’t make sense. You had felt the blood spraying your skin, had felt the sword cutting through his flesh. How…?
“Don’t be afraid, little one. You will live on through me. Or well, in me.” The demon was giggling to himself, his pants brushing against your corp uniform as you lay broken on the ground. You had lost. This was the end. All your efforts had been null. You should’ve known that you would never truly make it as a demon slayer. The only reason you had made it this far was luck. If the universe hadn’t been playing its stupid tricks, then you would have been massacred like the rest of your family.
Yeah, so much for being a Hashira.
Laying on the cold grass, you questioned how you had ever been strong enough to qualify as a pillar. To be considered ‘the best of the best’. What a load of crap.
You couldn’t feel your legs, or your arms. Something heavy was pressing against your back and suddenly your body was forced to its feet. The arms looped under yours were the only thing keeping you standing. As much as you wanted to fight, you physically couldn’t. Hours had already passed since the upper moon first arrived. What you first thought was a simple mission had escalated far more than you could ever imagine. It was only you and him; everyone else was dead or well on their way. Your heart cried for the junior members of the corps. They hadn’t stood a chance.
Dark. Everything was so dark. Sharp tingles of pain were creeping up your neck, your body felt like it was being moulded into something else.
Dark. The dark was here.
You couldn’t die like this.
Dark.
Tears were streaming down your face. Were they? Maybe you were just imagining it.
Cold.
You needed to fight. You needed to fight. You needed to fight.
Tired.
The most you could do was pry a single eye open.
Through your squinting vision, you saw the large white moon, so far away up in the sky. The trees whistled with the wind, swaying gently in your peripheral. The demon was elsewhere. Behind you? Was that what the pain radiating from your back was? Maybe. Maybe not. You didn’t know. Everything was numb. A voice whispered into the shell of your ear.
“I can hear your heart slowing down…you sure don’t wanna die, huh?”
You stared forwards, towards the trees. Was there someone there? What was that sound?
A warm hand clasped yours. You couldn’t see her, but you knew your mum had come back. And she was tugging, tugging. Tugging you away somewhere. You let your eye fall shut again, just wanting this to be over. Your mum was taking you home, everything would be okay.
No. Something muttered deep in the black depths of your mind. Look.
“I just want this to stop,” you tried to say back, but your vocal strings were fried, your life was slowly slipping from your grasp.
The voice came again, this time with a fiery barrage of anger.
Look.
So you did.
Your gaze narrow and shaky, you watched as a roaring snake blocked out the moon. And there was pink, pink everywhere. The pressure on your back suddenly disappeared and your body was left to tumble to the ground. This time, nothing could stop your descent into darkness.
“Mmh,” a groan rumbled in your chest. The ground was rapidly moving beneath you, your arms deadweight on your chest. You were floating - no, someone was carrying you. You tried to move your body, but the flaring pain immediately stopped you.
“We’re nearly there,” a quiet voice mumbled somewhere above you. If you weren’t in so much pain, you would have flinched at the sudden noise. Where were you? What was happening?
Peeking your eyes open, you managed to make out the mismatched coloured eyes of the man carrying you. Something silky slid along your neck.
You tried to say his name but failed, eyes blinking once, twice and then falling shut again as the darkness returned.
The next time you woke up, it was to a dimly lit room. A plush pillow was situated under your head and a soft blanket was draped loosely over your lower half. Your whole body ached like a buttcheek on a stick, that was for sure. When you tried to move your legs, nothing happened. Your eyes grew wide, but you winced, your skin feeling tender around your left eye. Huffing a breath, you wiggled your way so that you could sit upright, staring in horror at your legs. Were you…?
“Don't get ahead of yourself. Your legs are in casts for now, they’re just broken.”
Head whipping to the side, you saw Shinobu situated off to the side of your bed. You gaped like a fish, eyes darting between her and your unresponsive legs. A small smile covered her lips.
When you tried to speak, your mouth was too dry. You only managed to cough.
The Insect Hashira got the hint, picking up a glass of water from the bedside table. You took it graciously in trembling hands, gulping down the liquid like a dry sponge. It became clear that you were about to choke, and Shinobu did nothing as you did just that, water sputtering from your lips as you hacked up your lungs. When your coughing fit finally ended, you handed the glass back, slumping unceremoniously back onto the pillows. The room stayed silent for a moment, your heavy breathing occupying the space. You were in the Butterfly mansion, that much was clear. However, you didn't know how. The last thing you remember, you were on the cusp of death and hallucinating some wacky-ass snake covered in love hearts.
“How…” you rasped, making eye contact with Shinobu. “How’d I get here? Am I dead?”
Shinobu stifled a giggle into her haori, magenta hair flying around as she shook her head no. She smiled at you, getting up from her seated position.
“Well, Obanai and Mitsuri brought you back here. Poor girl was crying too much to explain what happened and you know how that damn Snake Hashira is.”
You narrowed your eyes, trying hard to remember the past events. As you did, Shinobu made her way to the door. You raised a brow in question, but she only smiled again and slipped out of the room, silence following in her wake. You groaned. So much for asking questions.
For the next couple of minutes, you dwelled on your thoughts, eyes slowly drooping shut. Just when you thought you would fall back asleep, the door to the room burst open. Loud yelling instantly invaded your ears.
“Yahhh! You’re awake, oh, you’re awake! Do you know how scared I was? Oh! You were bleeding everywhere and you wouldn’t respond when we were saying your name! I thought you were dead. I thought you…” You could only blink in shock at the love hashira. Her yelling quickly quieted down to sobs as she ran over to wrap her arms around your neck. Gargantuan tears rolled off her face and onto your prone form. “Never do that again, okay! When Obanai and I found you, we thought we were too late. Nyahh, why would you fight an upper moon demon alone you dummy!” The crying girl reached a new crescendo as she started yelling again, her voice causing a new throbbing to start up in the back of your head.
“Okay, ‘Suri. I’m alright,” you whispered, hoping to soothe her screaming. Two big green eyes stared at you for a moment, a steady stream of tears still rolling from them. She went to open her mouth again but you sighed, reaching a hand to stroke her bubblegum hair back from her face. A red tint now accompanied the wet stains on her cheeks. She bit her lip hard, eyes darting all over your face before she wailed one last time and slumped over you like a cat.
Internally, you cried at the pressure that she put on your ribs, but covered it with a small smile on your face.
“Oi, you’re hurting her.”
Mitsuri leaped off of you in an instant, hands covering her mouth. With her no longer obscuring your view of the room, you could see Obanai stood motionless in the doorway. He quietly entered, closing the door behind him. His dull eyes roved your form for a second, before settling on your face.
“How do you feel?”
You bit your lip to stop from saying how you really felt. That was, complete and utter shit. Instead, you managed a small grin, watching as he came to sit on the edge of the bed. Mitsuri followed, climbing up onto the sheets and snuggling up close.
“Fine. How long have I been out?”
Mitsuri hung onto your arm for dear life, and you watched as her bottom lip wobbled.
“Two weeks now. I didn’t know if you were ever gonna wake up.” She said sadly, burrowing her head into the nook of your neck. From the side of your eye, you watched as Obanai rolled his eyes at the girl's words. With your free hand, you patted the love hashira on the back, hoping it gave her some sense of comfort. Craning your neck to the side, you averted your stare back to the Serpent Hashira, knowing he’d at least answer some of your questions without bursting into tears.
“What happened back there? I mean, I thought I was dead for sure.” You ended your words with a small laugh, but he didn’t seem to find them very funny.
“When Kanroji and I arrived, that demon was absorbing you from behind.” That explained the numbness in your back. “You looked as good as dead, hell you were dead. But somehow we managed to ward him off long enough to grab you and get you back here.”
He stopped talking, gaze assessing the look on your face. At your prolonged silence, Mitsuri popped her head up to look at your expression. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“You didn’t kill it?” you asked slowly. Next to you, Mitsuri gulped. Obanai just looked at you. “You let it get away?” You insisted, neck cracking as you raised up onto your weak forearms. Mitsuri uttered words of warning but you ignored them, brows pulled tightly together. Your eyes flew between your fellow hashira, lips opening and closing in disbelief.
“That wasn’t the priority.” Obanai said simply. Your eyes focused on him. Besides you, Mitsuri hummed her agreement.
“Why?” you growled. “How was that not the priority? I fought that damn demon for hours. Okay? Hours. The two of you together could have beat him no problem, upper moon or not. And what, you just let it get away? This is our job! This is what we do! If we don’t kill these demons when we get the chance, how the hell are we supposed to ever stop Muzan, huh? Ubayashiki won’t be happy to hear this. I’m not happy to hear this!”
Mitsuri ducked her head, but Obanai’s gaze didn’t waver.
“Ubayashiki knows.”
You grit your teeth. “‘He knows’, that’s all you're gonna say? Why not explain your actions then! Explain why you let an upper moon get away when you were in the prime position to kill it!”
The raven haired man stayed silent this time, eyes finally falling to his lap.
But you weren’t done with this, no way. A heavy pressure bared down on your chest, stopping you from getting full lungfuls of air. All the pain did was remind you of what happened. Remind you that you nearly died. And for what? What did you almost die for, if the demon got away in the end? You said exactly this, watching as the two avoided meeting your eye.
“I swear to god,” you seethed. “You better tell me that you know where that demon went, or so help me…”
The silence gave you your answer.
Mitsuri sat up fully, eyes brimming with fresh tears. She took hold of your hand, bringing it close to her chest.
“We did it for you,” she babbled, tugging on the sleeve of your hospital jacket. “Please don’t be angry.”
You wrenched your hand away.
“Well I am! I am angry! How can you say -”
“Stop it,” Obanai suddenly snapped. Both Mitsuri and you shot your eyes to where he was now standing up. His gaze had hardened, fists clenched by his side. “Don’t get mad at her. She did nothing wrong. We had two options: kill the demon or save your life. Now, I don’t know if you have some suicidal tendencies or something but we made our decision and we chose you. It’s up to you if you can accept that or not, but there’s no going back, so just stop.”
“Obanai…” Mitsuri whispered but he kept his steely glare directed at you.
“That’s the problem,” you hissed, recovering from your initial shock. Out of all the hashira, Iguro was one of the quietest - rarely did he raise his voice or get angry like this. Nevermind that though, the beating in your head and the irritation you felt urged you on. “You made a dumb choice. That demon is gonna go and he’s gonna kill hundreds of more people. Why? Because you had a severe lapse in judgement? Is that why, Obanai?”
Obanai met your words head on, his eyes narrowing.
“Maybe it was a dumb decision,” he growled. “But it was our decision. Mitsuri and I. We chose you. You were more important in that moment. What about that can’t you understand?”
“Oh, I understand perfectly fine! I understand that there are two incompetent hashira among us that don’t understand where their priorities should lay. How's that for understanding?”
Mitsuri gasped quietly next to you but you didn’t dare tear your gaze away from the serpent hashira. If you could have seen his mouth, you swore he’d have been sneering at you in this moment. You watched as he took a few deep breaths, eyes shutting in what looked like exasperation.
“You.” He declared lowly. “You are our priority. And I am not going to apologise for saving you. Nor is Mitsuri. So, get. over. it.” The last words sounded like they were spoken through gritted teeth. Your nostrils flared.
“I am not your priority.” You argued, eyes blazing.
“That is not up to you to decide.”
“No? Well I just did! If you think… “ you started, voice beginning to rise. “If you think that my life is more important than taking down Muzan, then you're delusional. You’re crazy!”
“Do not put words in my mouth!” Obanai hissed back, Kaburamaru copying this sentiment.
Your eyes shot open as you laughed mockingly. “I’m not putting anything but the truth in your mouth!”
“Stop it!” Mitsuri cried, now standing as well. “Stop it, the both of you!”
Both your heads whipped towards the pink haired girl, who now had her hands clasped together as if she were about to get on her knees and beg.
“Mitsuri,” Obanai said softly, his tone doing a complete 180. “It’s her, not me.”
It’s a miracle your neck didn’t break at the speed in which you turned to glower at him. Your throat, still not completely healed, scratched with every word.
“Me? Are you kidding? It’s ME?” You were hysterical at this point.
Obanai didn’t concede.
“I don’t understand what your problem is. Really. This is pointless. What you’re saying is pointless!”
You were going to murder this man. You were going to have to commit seppuku for the war crimes that you were about to commit against him.
“Why!” You finally exploded. “I just want to know why you think saving me was your priority! Especially, when we both know that the right thing to do would’ve been to ditch me and kill that son-of-a bitch!”
This time, Obanai didn’t respond. You were panting, glare prominent on your face. Your ribs were hurting and all the shouting hadn’t helped the headache you were sporting. Off to the side, Mitsuri whimpered.
“Tell her, Obanai,” she murmured. He glared at her, then at you.
“No.” He said.
“Tell her,” she urged again.
You could quickly feel the rage swelling in your belly.
“Tell me what?” you croaked, voice ran raw. You wanted to shout and scream and demand answers, but you were so tired.
Obanai stayed quiet. Your eyes darted to Mitsuri now, who squeaked at whatever she saw in your gaze. Her hands fumbled nervously with the front of her uniform, teeth gnawing on her bottom lip. She shot a look at Obanai.
“We, um…” she started. On your other side, Obanai said something quietly. You didn’t hear, but Mitsuri clearly did as she grew a determined look on her face.
“‘Suri…”  You warned.
No one spoke for a moment, before…
“We love you!” Mitsuri wailed, volume going unchecked as her face turned as red as hot coal.
You blinked, suddenly stumped for words. “Huh, you mean…Huh?”
Mitsuri started to cry again for whatever reason. You could only stare dumbly.
“I love you,” Mitsuri babbled between sobs. “He loves you too but he won’t say it!” She continued to cry.
When you looked back at Obanai, he refused to meet your eye.
A sudden knock on the door shocked you out of your stupor. Shinobu peeked her head inside, but immediately stopped as she took in all of your faces. Without a word, she quickly retreated, door slamming shut.
The room went dead silent, aside from Mitsuri’s quiet sniffles as she tried to gain control over her emotions.
Slowly, you started to speak, directing your words at Obanai as you did.
“Tell me that’s not true. It’s just Mitsuri being Mitsuri, right? Right.” He still didn’t look at you, silently shaking his head. You felt your chin wobble. “Don’t say that,” you protested. “Don’t say that!” You grew angry again, poking a finger into the snake pillar's chest. Your body turned to Mitsuri. “‘Suri you don’t mean that. Don’t say that, please. Please.”
She only smiled sadly. One of her hands reached out as if to comfort you, but you backed away into the pillow behind you. Your eyes widened in horror.
“Get out,” you crowed. “Get out, now!”
“What?” Mitsuri whispered.
“Get out of my room.” You stated, curling in on yourself. Mitsuri stepped forward, looking as though she didn’t know what to do with herself. Her eyes stared into yours, but it was like she wasn’t actually seeing you.
“You don’t mean that. You’re just tired, you need time to recover. You don’t… After everything, you can’t possibly mean to say…”
You choked on a sob, pulling the blankets higher over you. Bound by the cast, you did what you could to turn away from the both of them. Mitsuri said your name one last time but you covered your ears, tears finally springing into your eyes.
“Get out…” you murmured, too tired to do anything. Too tired to beg or yell or cry.
You heard as Obanai moved, saying something quietly to Mitsuri. Footsteps, then the door to your room closed and you were left all alone again.
Alone.
Maybe that’s all you’d ever be.
