Still debating it but these may be my favorite arcs of each series (Can't decide if I like Water 7/Enies Lobby more then wano or marineford 😅) . The android saga introduced teen Gohan and trunks. Not to mention some of my favorite fights. Fake Karakura Town arc is slept on as well as hueco Mundo Arc. Folks only bring up Vasto lorde Ichigo and that's it😭. The arc and build ups were 🔥🔥🔥

but white just fought back cause he’s badass like that

if it was canon (happening post fullbring ) that could’ve been something cool to go along with ichigo remembering white saying “I AM ZANGETSU”

it could’ve been something cool to hint at “the blade is me” and old man zangetsu not being ichigos true zanpakuto

also when zangetsu uses bankai for him to change form and transform into the soul world tensa zangetsu we see at the end of the arrancar saga

Since it's probably coming up in this cour?? Or maybe in the next, but I will always be salty with how dirty Kubo did Ukitake throughout the whole manga - but especially in tybw. Not really utilizing him the way you utilized Shunsui was one thing, but not even giving him a fight before you take him out was dirty 😭

And don't even get me started on how his death was - from what I remember - ultimately pointless, he was giving up his life for the soul king only for Ywach to absorb him anyways. Maybe that did sorta help, idk my memory of it is kinda foggy, but it forreal felt like a "oh damn this guys still a thing gotta give him this random thing to do and then kill him off".

I appreciate that because he's gone, there was a vacancy in the 13 division but Kubo could've given ukitake a battle in tybw and maybe have him either die from said battle or survive it & choose to retire afterwards due to the injuries he sustained from it (like his body was already frail, so maybe he pushed himself too far after using his bankai WHICH WE NEVER SAW). Which then leads to canon with rukia being captain.

There's sooooooo many sternritter's that are introduced and instead of giving some of them to other characters - or have them group together if you don't want too many individual fights - we instead get the same characters have multiple fights with diff opponents or have some of the sternritter's off screened.

For example, we get characters like Kenpachi or Hitsugaya who are given multiple fights in this arc (not necessarily complaining I do like them), while Rukia, who is the second most important character in this show gets one actual good fight where we finally see her bankai. And is then not really utilized after that. That's wild imagine if Sasuke, who is also a deuteragonist, was only given one fight in the 4th war and then fades into the background while naruto/others go fight madara. Side tangent, but I'm just pointing out how weirdly characters were used from the main cast to side characters.

And it's not like it's just Ukitake, kubo also seemed to not like the visored (vizard?) either. Goddamn were they heavily underutilized, got introduced in the story as being one of the major new factions + given a backstory that gave them a connection to both the seireitei & aizen but were ultimatley cast aside for no reason.

Even their inclusion in tybw was pathetic, had them taken out anytime they tried to do something like what was the point Kubo what do you have against these characters?? At least chose to either have them fade into the background after only serving their purpose during the arrancar saga or have some die a meaningful death. (Not that killing characters off when they "serve" no more purpose = good writing. It just would've been something to actually chew on than what we actually got)

Idk something other than that half assed shit, as someone who likes the visored it was painful to watch. There's so many frustrating things about Bleach when I think about it, you have all these cool characters/designs who have interesting personalities, purpose, backstory and then they never get to do anything other than serve as "characters who get offed or beaten up to make the ones who save them look good", which sucks.

Hopefully, in the second cour, or third, some of these things change? I don't expect Kubo to care about ukitake or the visored now but maybe some other side characters like hisagi or yumichika who can finally complete his character arc of never using his shikai in front of others, he was about to use it but got taken out by a zombie. Oh, and also! Ikakku, similarly to yumichika, he also didn't get to have his character arc come full circle. We never got to see him use his bankai again, it seemed he was about to but got taken out by the same zombie - so maybe next cour...? Fingers crossed 🤞 that at some point both him & yumichika can show their concealed powers without fear of one not being accepted and the other not being allowed in the squad anymore. Especially when we know that at the end of the manga, ikkaku replaces yachiru as lieutenant

One of the reasons why defeating Aizen at the end of the Arrancar Saga seems like a more fitting ending than defeating Yhwach at the end of the Thousand Year Blood War is that there is no cost for victories.

To defeat Aizen, Ichigo became an ordinary human being. No more ghosts, shinigami and other otherworldly nonsense, ONLY ordinary life after saving the world. He said goodbye to Rukia - the one who completely changed his life and his understanding of the world. Broke the most important connection in life after the death of his mother. It was a SACRIFICE.

To defeat Yhwach, Ichigo needed the help of Aizen lol and his old huge piece of iron, which he calls a sword. And... well, you know, he remained a substitute shinigami. Yes, Yhwach took his Quincy powers, but up until the arc there weren't really any hints or significant details about them that couldn't be explained by the Hollow's power.

Thinking about what the ideal ending could have been - well, Ichigo would probably have to sacrifice himself to defeat Yhwach. Of course, he would become a permanent shinigami of the Gotei 13 (and Rukia's lieutenant?), but would be forced to sever his connection with the World of the Living, although thanks to Kyoraku tickets, his friends and sisters would be able to visit him.

Yes, that makes sense in my head.

p.s. Oh yes, this would be another detail in the inversion of the story of Isshin and Masaki.

Waaay back at the beginning of the Arrancar Saga I criticized Kubo for killing off a bunch of people in a way that failed to convey the horror and tragedy of it all...good to see he’s taken lessons since that time. These dude may be dead men walking, but they’re dead men walking with names and the barest hint of individual personality. That goes a long way!

Thot: The saga of Yhwach's concubine!Darling wouldn't end with his death. But what would happen would depend heavily on their species.

If they were an arrancar they'd probably end up geting home with Nel and Grimjaw. Hollows dont sexually reproduce so it's not like they're carrying a godling in the oven. Though since Hollows and Quincys are diametrically opposite Arrancar!Daring is unlikely.

Human!Darling would be in more difficulty. Even if they were a spirit-medium, they would be completely over matched. On the plus side it's highly likely that the Karakura gang, especially Orihimi, would stand up for them. They'd eventually be returned home to the living world. Still they'd be being observed for a goodly while. For the devlopement of (new) powers, signs of pregnancy etc. Once the battle was over they'd be viewed with a mix of pity and contempt once word got out Darling was human and not quincy. The hostility and contempt would be there though and Darling would have shinigami keeping close tabs on her even in the living world. If she hailed from Karakura town it would be Urahara keeping tabs instead.

Quincy!Darling would most likely be a POW. I haven't read the light novels so I don't know what happened to the surviving quincy. I imagine it would be made certian they weren't pregnant.

Yeah, given what Mayuri does I can see Quincy!Darling being made into a petri dish unfortunately.

But uuuu I love when a villain's Darling is taken by the heroes and is treated with suspicion despite not doing anything wrong. Like Yhwach works with this but my main Bleach baddie to thirst over will always be Aizen. Poor Darling's been manipulated 24/7 only to be treated badly just because of the man who developed an interest in them. Tho with Aizen's Darling, they're more likely to sympathize with them. Even Yhwach's Darling would get sympathy from a few people, provided they weren't a Quincy I think. Even then, the kinder characters might feel a bit bad for them.

But Aizen's Darling knows that he's still there, and knowing him he's really just choosing to be imprisoned. They never know when he's going to get out, and I imagine he'd find a way to visit them even if it's just in their mind.

OHH or Muramasa's Darling! She'd get the most sympathy imo, since Muramasa really was the most sympathetic villain. Like the Sereitei would step in and stop him and take Darling away (in my AU where he's totally alive because fuck it he deserved better) unt he's not a threat, but even they might view him with pity. He's just very lonely and desperate, but that still doesn't give him the right to kidnap someone yk?

Tsukishima and/or Gojo's Darling wouldn't be treated with much suspicion either, esp since Tsukishima's powers are to manipulate someone's mind. They get to do their own thing in the Sereitei in the light novels iirc, so the Shinigami wouldn't really get involved if they had a kidnapped Darling unless they made it a worldwide threat OR they're a Shinigami 🤷‍♀️ The system is just like that
