Rhidyl/Meldri'lind, God of Tenacity🌠
Ending spoilers and more context/lore crafting below the cut!
I was trying to make an AU for every Gale ending and I finally figured out how to make the god couple ending work so I had to make a new look for him 😌
Even though he rejects it in all of his normal mortal timelines, I might have him go by his birth name (Meldri'lind meaning "beloved snake" in drow) again as a god because a.) it sounds more godly than Rhidyl and you know he's all about appearances lol and b.) So that his family may know his name and see that he has escaped their lies and proven than he is more than the tool they they reduced him to.
They told him since birth than he was destined for greatness but all of their promises were empty. He found his own way.
As the God of Tenacity (what I've decided on), overcoming and finding a way to carry on and succeed against all odds is very important to him so it fits his image well.
The virtue he embodies might make him a good failsafe for Gale's ambition as well, since Rhidyl's innate stubbornness and will to press on would have would have swelled to a defining trait in goodhood. They did not ascend out of pure selfishness or a thirst for power and he absolutely would never budge on that or allow Gale to cross that line, even as Gale inevitably strove for more.
Likewise, I think Gale's ambition could keep them on the path of growth, innovation, and positive change for their followers and their system of magic, as alone Rhidyl would have remained static and content in their current state.

Since I can't access BG3's epilogue, because I don't have any saves from prior to fighting the Absolute, I'm just gonna be over here writing and hoping Larian comes out with a hot fix soon. 🥹
I'll get to the epilogue one day! Time to get through the Githyanki Creche again!

How do you trigger the new epilogue in BG3?
I feel so stupid. How is it possible that I'm not getting it? Patch 5 installed, I see the new game modes etc. etc. UGH. Where is it?

Astarion final endgame conversation: "you're precious to me, I don't want to lose you"
"I hope we can find a place for love in our new whatever this is"
"You mean too much to me to just walk away"
Astarion, six months later APPARENTLY: yeah I still think of you sometimes too, it's too bad things didn't work out for us but oh well what can you do. So how've you been these past six months! Let me tell you all about my standard friendship ending, since we haven't seen each other since, uh... that conversation where we agreed to try and work things out and I said I wouldn't walk away from you.
Cheers, Larian.

the way that one line from the new epilogue in an astarion romance is going to HAUNT me
just. what a profoundly intense thing to confess to someone.
like, just these six months of newfound happiness with you exerts a force on his heart equal and in direct opposition to two centuries of endless torment, the gnawing hunger and exploitation. this flashbulb-bright fraction of his long life holds the same gravity to him as years upon years of darkness and suffering.
in all likelihood, he hasn’t even known his lover for as long as his worst memory lasted, that year sealed away to go mad from starvation and sensory deprivation, yet he still tells them this brief time has been so fundamentally and powerfully important that the weight of even that unimaginable hell is vanishingly small compared to this present he has now and the future ahead of them both.
how am i supposed to act normal about this.
