how do you think ballet will change in the next 50 years? for example the style or the new ballets created..

While I think classical ballet will still be flourishing, I think there are going to be more modern and contemporary ballets as well.  From what I’ve seen and heard, at least from people around where I live, contemporary has gained a lot of popularity recently.  It also seems reach a broader audience, because even people who aren’t as interested into dance and ballet, still seem to be drawn to contemporary ballets.  

Another thing that I recently found out about, that I thought interesting and could see them growing in the future, was faith-based ballet companies.  As a Christian, I find that an interesting concept, because let’s face it, not all ballets are exactly as wholesome and modest as The Nutcracker (*cough cough*Petit Mort (;). 

While the Christian companies I’ve heard of so far are no ABT, I think it’s cool that they combine their passion for dance with their passion for the Lord, and I think they will inspire others to do the same. :)

tell me you favourite ballet. why this one? why do you have a special connection to it?

Well I don’t really have a favorite ballet because the only one I’ve seen is The Nutcracker back in like, 6th grade lol that’s sad. So ummmm yeah it’s kinda hard to have a favorite ballet. But the number one ballet on my list of ballets I have to see before I die is La Bayadere (which is actually gonna be at the Joffrey in the fall so I’m hoping to go see it with some people from the team). I probably could watch some full length ones online but I’m too lazy and don’t have the patience to-I can barely watch an episode of Supernatural without pausing it like 2456893 times just to check tumblr and facebook.

I was criticized for promoting “copy-cats” among photographers today… i wish everything was that easy)) In December 2012 @nymag published few images that became the most famous photographs about the ballet’s studios. Those were selected from “Ballet” - a book issued that year at the time of the eponymous exhibit that was a result of almost a decade of photographic documentation the New York Ballet’s repertory and back stage life by Henry Leutwyler @henryleutwyler. I share here only images that resemble my morning post - the series of ballerina’s feet. “If I had to title the picture, I would call it Reality and Dreams,” said the author at the time. “The foot en pointe is what every little girl dreams of. The other is the hard, hard work, and the reality.” That was not just a personal success of the photographer but also an amazing moment in the history of ballet photography. For the first time routine behind beautiful, graceful art of performance was exposed as a struggle and fight for the excellence. Isn’t it a striking contrast to the ephemeral fairy like creatures captured during their dance or posing for the promotion? In 2014 the same visual idea was adapted by Tyler Shields (check my morning post). It wasn’t the only concept he adapted. And he wasn’t the only commercial and fashion photographer that used that “learning by copying” approach from artist’s schools in their professional and pretty well paid and promoted works. Idea of “postmodernism” as an excuse not to struggle inventing own ideas, techniques, shapes, concepts is still very popular. How many times had we applauded copy-pasters after fashion shows, jewelry presentations, art exhibitions? It’s literally everywhere… But in commercial and editorial photography the brief presented as inspiration board looks like row of products at the supermarket’s shelves - just choose and use. And it’s better to be precise executing it. If for the artists the position about authenticity is clear, what is about the people? Do they need to be educated to tell the difference?
