just imagine, end of season 5, its the end of episode 8 and the party have defeated vecna, byler confessed, theyre happy.

we see the party heading off to college, new beginnings and all that. mikes helping will pack up his stuff into a pickup truck, he says something like "well, looks like we're all done, everything's strapped up!", will walks over to him from where he was saying his goodbyes to joyce, jonathan, hopper and el (shes going to a local college with max in this idk) and just with every bit of softness in the world says "thanks for helping me pack, mike, are you sure you don't mind bringing all this to chicago for me?" and mike's eyebrows just shoot up because he literally went to hell for this man, and in the most sassy tone you can imagine "uh, yeah, we're gonna need some type of furniture for our new place and the government hush fund didn't stretch that far" will lets out a little chuckle, "damn, its the least they could do after the last 7 years" "i know right", mike squawked out, "anyways we better start heading if we want to make it there before dinner, see you soon mrs. byers!" muffled tears of happiness can be heard from her, and her voice wobbles slightly when she shouts back "call me when you get there and send pictures of the apartment! i love you boys", even a sniffle can be heard from hopper when he shouts out some reminders for driving the long distance. as the boys get into the truck, will shouts "we'll be back for thanksgiving, you'll hardly know we're gone" and as mike pulls away from the newly renovated byers-hopper house, there's this perfect shot of a normal loving family wishing their son(s) off to college and in this moment everything is forgotten, no more upside down or vecna or demodogs, no more possessions or otherworldly connections, just two boys holding hands over the console of the car as they set off to a new city, knowing that no matter what happens they'll always have eachother.

mike and will knew eachother mike spent his summer growing up on his nana’s farm so the two of them had met at a young age on the swings near the community center

the two boys just lost connection cause mike stopped visiting his nana’s farm after middle school so he stoped seeing will and then his nana died so mike moved from the big city do to in the letter his nana sent him before she passed telling him if he ever got bored of the city that the farm would now be under mikes name

mike moves from the big city to stardew valley and he meets some new town people and reconnects with old one. an old friend of mikes is working at one of the shops in the town and it's will and there’s like an instant attraction between the two of them bringing up some old feelings from the two of them featuring bar tender will (who hates alcohol bc of his dad but needs the money) and mike the new farmer (scrawny white boy who can barley lift the tools)

featuring wills sister who likes eating rocks(el) the guy who's a reddit mod and plays dnd in his basement (dustin) the sculptor who lives in a shack in the woods (max) the jock who always finds a way to be in the woods near the sculptors house (lucas)

so that’s like the background now time for the head cannons tee hee

* mike hundred percent tries to visit the bar every day just in hopes of seeing will working

* mike works his ass off to try to fix the community center cause that’s where he first met will

*will uses the bar as a place to display his art and mike hundred % tries to buy all of it

*the them meeting and becoming friends is exactly the same as regular strangers things because i firmly believe that that’s how they meet in every universe

*once the community center is fully complete mike also goes and repairs the swing set next to it and finds will there one day

*Mike asks will out on the same place they first met

*mike and will often see each other in the mines cause will is there getting gems for el and mike is there cause he’s a simp

I felt my jaw drop, barely able to process what I was hearing. The words that left Will’s lips ricocheted around my brain, and I might have forgotten how to breathe for a minute. I needed Will to pinch me, so I could wake up from this… if it wasn’t real, it would be a nightmare. Instead of asking Will to do it for me, I pinched myself, and felt butterflies erupt in my stomach when I didn’t snap my eyes open to the sight of my bedroom back in Indianapolis. I was still here, in Will’s room, and Will was holding me rather sensually, and I felt so fucking alive.

like dont get me wrong i enjoy a 'jonathan is gonna kill mike' joke as much as the next guy, but consider an opposing point. jonathan being the first person byler come out to, and just after, jonathan asks to pull a clearly very anxious mike aside for a second. mike thinks he's about to either a) get the shovel talk or b) skip the shovel talk, get murdered immediately, but instead. jonathan just tells him, gentle, that he's proud of him for coming out, and he's so happy that Will isn't alone in this, and that he can see how much Mike loves Will, and how happy that makes his little brother, and he is so grateful that Will has him. because mike, jonathan promises, is a good kid.

and mike -- who is so nervous about coming out, so scared of losing his parents over it and splintering his family in turn -- gets such a solid reminder that he does have a family, and does have people that want to see him happy for who he is, and he will always have somewhere to go. jonathan offering that to him.
