The last thing Carlos wanted today was to get involved in someone else’s relationship troubles. But when that person is his teammate, and when that teammate is blasting Justin Bieber’s That Should Be Me loud enough for Carlos to hear it through the wall, he really doesn’t have a choice. He pulls out his phone with a sigh and makes a call.

Pierre furrows his brow when he sees that Carlos Sainz is calling him.

“Hello?” he answers, trying not to sound too perplexed.

“He must have seen pictures from the cooking video,” Carlos says.

“Who — oh,” Pierre responds, knowing the answer before he can even finish the question. He has to bite back a laugh. Charles has a tendency to get a bit jealous when he sees Pierre interacting with other men, and Pierre would be lying if he said that he wasn’t being a little flirty with Jack today.

“How bad is it?” he asks Carlos.

“Well, so far he has played That Should Be Me and You Belong With Me, and now it’s…” Carlos pauses a moment before adding, “Olivia Rodrigo?”

Pierre winces. He probably needs to do some damage control.

Because the thing is, Pierre has been waiting for Charles to admit that he’s jealous. Pierre has been waiting for Charles to admit that he feels something for Pierre, something more than the friendship they’ve shared for 20 years.

Charles tries to shake himself out of the funk he has been in all morning. He knows he has no right to feel jealous, not when he can’t even bring himself to tell Pierre how he really feels. But every time he sees Pierre laughing with another man, every time he sees another man look at Pierre the way he knows he looks at Pierre, he feels something deep in his chest that he can’t let go.

He walks out of the Ferrari garage with his head down, not bothering to talk to any of the team on his way out. He just wants some space to clear his head.

But he promptly runs directly into someone the moment he crosses the threshold. He stumbles backwards and looks up, only to lock eyes with the one person he didn’t want to see.

“Calamar, please wait,” Pierre starts, and Charles takes another step back, backing himself right back into the garage. He can’t have this conversation right now.

“Non, Pierre, I have a meeting to go to,” Charles says, still backpedaling until he bumps into someone else.

He stumbles and turns around, coming face to face with Carlos.

“I called him. You two need to sort this out, because I am tired of hearing your sad songs every time there is a photo of Pierre with another man,” Carlos says firmly.

Charles glares at his teammate, and then looks back to Pierre who is biting back a grin.

“You are a traitor, Carlos,” Charles says through gritted teeth.

“Okay Olivia Rodrigo, let’s go have a chat,” Pierre chuckles, and Charles wants to wipe that fox-like smile right off his face.

But mostly, he wants to kiss it off. Especially when Pierre slips an arm around Charles’ waist and starts leading him away from the garage.

Charles sighs and allows himself to be led away, trying to push down the jealousy he feels when he thinks about Pierre’s arms around another man’s waist.

“Charlo, I — ”

Charles cuts him off. “I do not like seeing pictures of you with other men, Pierre. I know that I should not feel so jealous, and that you are allowed to have other friends, but every time I see a photo of you…flirting with anyone else, I wish that it were me. And I maybe should have said something when I started feeling this way but I do not know what this means and I — ” he pauses, takes a breath.

“I think I have feelings for you, Pierre,” he says quietly.

“I know, calamar. Would you like to go on a date when we get back to Monaco?” Pierre asks with a smile.

“Max, for the hundredth time I swear to God we are in a school book.” Charles walks into the library as Max rolls his eyes, trying to understand why is that so important.

“And that’s relevant because…” He was just trying to buy some groceries and bumped into Charles, who was very excited and dragged him out of there even before he could pay for his food. And he can’t say no to Charlie, so.

“That makes us literally legends,” He says, peering into every bookshelf for the correct one. “kids are learning about racing and us. At school.”

“Yea’ that’s actually pretty cool.”

“Oh.” Charles suddenly stops walking, making Max stop in his tracks, bumping into him.

When Max looks up, he’s met with the prettiest girl he’s laid eyes upon. She has a few books in her arms, and is trying to grab one that is on the top shelf.

“Do you need any help?” Charles takes a step closer and then, she’s facing them. She’s silent for a couple of seconds, looking between the two of them.

Next thing they know, she’s smiling brightly at them. “Yes, please. I just need that one.” She points to a black and red one.

Charles tries to grab the book but it’s a little out of his reach. Max tries to hide a smile behind his hands, and doesn’t say anything when the boy turns around, silently asking him for help.

“That’s actually the book we were looking for.”

“You can have it.” The girl pushes the book against Charles’ chest, but he just gives it back.

“You probably need it for school or something.” Max says, giving her his best smile. “We were just trying to see ourselves in that book.”

She raises her eyebrows, immediately opening the book and looking for the picture. “Oh, that’s why you looked so familiar!” She exclaims, turning the book around to show them the page.

And Charles was right, there is a picture of both of them alongside Checo on the podium in Las Vegas last year. There’s a paragraph talking about what is Formula One and who are they.

Yeah, it’s pretty cool.

“So,” Charles says, cheeks burning red. “Do you need it for school? Are you like in senior year or something like that?” Max laughs because he can’t help it. He has never seen him flirting before.

“No, my nephew needs it. I’m just helping.” She then proceeds to introduce herself, saying her name and waving. Max and Charles find it so cute, they seem to have fallen for her charm. And they just met her.

“It’s your nephew a Formula One fan?”

“Actually,” The beautiful girl pulls her phone out of her bag, showing them her lockscreen. She’s there next to a boy in a kart. “He’s into karting and is gonna be so jealous when I tell him I met you two.”

“Well,” Max tries to sound nonchalant but he’s so nervous. He just hopes she doesn’t notice, or Charles because he’s gonna make fun of him for the rest of their lives. “We would be very happy to meet him.”

“Oh my God, seriously? He’ll be so happy if you come to one of his races. He will lose his mind.”

“I was actually talking about Facetime.” Max hates himself when he sees her face falls, but forgets about it the second she’s blushing.

“Just ignore him. Max is nervous because you’re so pretty and he doesn’t know how to talk with pretty girls.” Max wants to punch him in the face. “And you’re like very pretty.”

“You get nervous around pretty girls too, Charles?”

The pretty girl giggles, and they turn to look at her so fast their necks start to hurt. “Why don’t you come to the race this weekend and you can see if I get nervous around pretty boys too?”

Y/n thought it was such a serious question for an eight year old to ask, but she answered the question anyway.

“Well the first time—”

“You can be in love more than once?”

Y/n chuckled and nodded. “Yes, Ruby, you can. Some people fall in love once, and other don’t.”

“Why?” The girl asked.

“It’s just how life is.”

That stuck with Ruby for a while. Her mother explained the concept of love to her. For being an eight year old, Ruby understood it quite well until she asked if being in love automatically means that you had to marry that person.

“Um . . Not necessarily. Not everyone that’s in love married each other.” Y/n explained.

“Why? They love each other. You and papa love each other and you’re married.” She stated.

“Well not everyone wants to get married. And it doesn’t really work like that. For example, I love you and Mathéo—”

“Don’t forget about Floppy.” Ruby interrupted.

“And Floppy, yes,” Y/n chuckled as the mentioned of the stuffed bunny. “I love my friends and family too. Do you get it?”

Ruby slowly nodded. “I think so. But maman, can I tell you something?”

“Of course, what is it?”

Y/n kept Ruby’s secret until Charles made it back to Monaco for the Grand Prix. Ruby had told her mother about her crush on a classmate from her piano class. Y/n thought it was adorable that her daughter had a crush unlike Charles who thought it was the end of the world.

“She’s too young! She’s my baby!” Charles spoke with Y/n as he got ready for the day. The Monaco Grand Prix was in a few days and he was already stressing about the race, now he had more to stress about.

“She’s eight, Charles. It’s just a little crush. You never had crushes as a kid?” Y/n asked, as she started to make the bed.

“I didn’t care about girls back then, I was too focused on racing.” He admitted. Y/n the stopped what she was doing and stared at him until he said the truth. “Okay, I had one crush, but she didn’t like me back! She liked some boy who stole my favorite pen from school.”

“Poor you.” Y/n chuckled then walked to the bathroom to start doing her hair, Charles walked in with her.

“But now I have the best wife who gave me the best children ever and hopefully she’ll give me more . .” Charles kissed his wife’s cheek repeatedly.

“Keep dreaming, Perceval. Maybe in the future. If we have more, imagine how you’re going to be when they start dating.”

“Oh god.”

After getting ready, the couple and the kids made it to the paddock. Usually, Ruby was energetic and loud, but her behavior that day changed. She was quiet and stayed with her mother holding her hand. When they walked into the Ferrari garage, Carlos was shocked to see a calm Ruby.

“Is she sick?” Carlos asked the parents.

“No, she’s fine she’s just nervous.” Y/n replied.

“Nervous for Charles or Ferrari?”

Charles rolled his eyes. “Actually, she’s nervous for herself. The boy she has a crush on is coming to watch the race, which I’m not happy about so can we please talk about something else?”

“She has a crush? No, she’s too young!” Carlos whisper yelled.

“That’s what I said! Thank you!” Charles brought his teammate in for a hug.

“Unbelievable, come on kids. Let’s go find Aunt Kika.”

By the time it was time to do interviews, the whole grid seemed to know about Ruby’s crush and each of them reacted similar to Charles and Carlos. Since Ruby’s first paddock appearance, the grid loved her. She had them wrapped around her finger and they didn’t mind one bit.

“What’s his name? How old is he? Do I know his parents? Where does he live?”

“Calm down, Pierre, they’re eight.”

“I need to know who my niece likes! What if he’s not good enough for her? Ruby deserves the world.” Pierre told Y/n as the family and a couple of drivers sat in the Ferrari hospitality.

“They’re eight. Why are all of you on Charles’ side? They’re kids, they’re not going to get married tomorrow.” Kika added.

“I’m not on papa’s side. I’m here for ice cream!” Mathéo said as he continued eating the frozen treat.

“Thank you, Théo. Keep eating, baby.” Y/n kissed her son’s cheek.

“There’s a percentage of people that end up marrying the person they met in their childhood. Ruby could fall into that category.” Charles stated.

“You sound ridiculous right now. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It’s cute, my childhood crush moved away to Canada or something.” Y/n said casually.

“Is it Lance?” Lando questioned.

“Mate, she said he moved to Canada, I’m pretty sure Lance was born there.” Carlos told Lando.

“Anyways . . . I suggest we keep Ruby in the Ferrari garage at all times then when the race finishes, we take her straight home and we all live happily ever after.” Charles proposed.

“Yeah, that seems dumb. But good luck finding her, she’s been with the boy from her piano class this whole time we’ve been talking. I think Fred is giving them a tour of the garage last I heard.”

It felt like a movie when you saw charles punch that guy out of nowhere. Everything just happened so fast. “What the fuck man?!” that guy shouted as everyone looked at our way, gasping. “Charles! Stop please!” You screamed at him as you tried to pull his away from that guy whose nose was bleeding right now. “Apologize to her, right fucking now! If i see you near her again I’ll fucking kill you. I fucking swear you’re gonna be fucking dead.” Charles said as he grabbed his collar. That guy then got up and immediately apologized to you and left murmuring some “total asshole” or something.

You let out a long sigh as your grip around him tightened. “Its okay y/n, im here now. You’re always safe with me, i promise” he said as he looked down at you smiling softly as you smiled back at him.

After reaching home, your home, you laid on your back in your bed as you groaned because you were tired as charles took his shoes off. You turned your head to look at him. “Shouldn’t you be with your i dont know 8th girlfriend of this month right now? Why are you here?” You asked. His face was really pissed for some reason, and you didn’t know why. He came closer to you so he was standing right in front of you as you looked up at him. God, you always loved him so much. in honor of my birthday, here’s one more baby leclerc fic <3

Ruby woke up ten minutes earlier than she should’ve. It was a new school day and she was more excited than ever. While her mom slept peacefully, Ruby was in her bathroom trying to untangle her hair, but each time she would end up with a knot in it. She gave up and ran to her mom and dad’s room with a brush stuck in her hair.

“Mama, I need help. Mama, wake up.” Ruby poked Y/n’s cheek repeatedly until her eyes fluttered open.

“Baby, what? What’s wrong?” Y/n rubbed her tired eyes. She then saw the mess on Ruby’s head. “Oh, baby girl.”

Y/n was alone with the kids since Charles was coming back from Italy for his home race. Mathéo slept in his nursery. Y/n got out of bed and took Ruby to her bathroom to fix the tangled hair.

“Why did you do this, Ruby?” The mother asked.

“Because I want to look pretty for my boyfriend!”

Y/n choked on her own saliva when she heard Ruby mention the word ‘boyfriend’. “When did this happen, Rubes? Does papa know?”

Of course Charles didn’t know. If he did, he would immediately change Ruby to a different school. Even if it was a pretend boyfriend, Ruby was still too young to be thinking about boys in his eyes. Thank god Charles wasn’t home.

“Yesterday he told me he loves me. Papa doesn’t know . . Yet! Can I tell him?” Ruby jumped up and down, eager to tell her papa about her love life.

“Not right now, baby. He’s working. But you can tell me all about him. What’s his name?” Y/n asked as she continued to brush through Ruby’s hair.

“His name is Ben and we’re getting married! Can you be my flower girl, mama? And uncle arthur can give us a ring.” Ruby said. “I want uncle pierre and kika to be at my wedding. I love Kika.”

Y/n chuckled. Ruby reminded Y/n of a younger version of herself, planning out her dream wedding, not having a single stressful moment. Y/n wished her Ruby would stay little forever.

“Okay, all done. Go get dressed, I have to get your brother ready.” Y/n pressed a kiss to the top of Ruby’s head and watched as the little girl ran off to her room. Before Y/n walked to Mathéo’s nursery, she grabbed her phone and texted Charles.

She left her phone on her nightstand and walked to Mathéo’s room where he was not laying awake staring at the ceiling. “Good morning my little boy. Let’s get you ready for the day.”

After both kids were dressed, the Leclerc family was on their way to school. Ruby kept telling her mother about Ben and how good he was at drawing, counting from 1 to 100 and apparently he knew about f1 because of his dad. The school wasn’t that far away from their home so they walked.

“When is papa coming home?” Ruby asked.

“He should be here tomorrow or maybe even today.” Replied Y/n. Mathéo squealed from his spot in his stroller. “You’re exiting to see papa, Théo? He misses you too.”

“I can tell him about Ben! Can Ben come to the race with us? Please mama!” Ruby stopped walking to face her mother.

“I don’t know, Ruby. We have to talk to his parents first.”

When Ruby got to school, she refused to set foot into the classroom until Ben arrived. Five minutes later, a little boy with a Ferrari cap on ran towards Ruby and hugged her.

“Ben! Don’t run! You’ve tripped enough already!” A woman about Y/n’s age scolded the boy.

“Mama! He’s Ben, my boyfriend!” Ruby yelled as Ben put his arm around her shoulder.

“Nice to meet you Ben. I’m Ruby’s mom.” Y/n said to the little boy.

“So I guess we’re in laws?” Ben’s mom laughed. “I’m Clara, Ben’s mom. I’ve heard so many things about your little girl. Were you invited to their ‘wedding’?” Clara asked.

Y/n nodded. “You’re looking at the flower girl.” She joked.

“I’m jealous, Ben told me I have to pay for the whole thing!”

After school, Pascale, Lorenzo and Arthur would always arrive at Y/n and Charles’ house just to spend time together. Ruby absolutely loved it. This time, Charles joined since he had taken an early flight from Italy so when he got home, he found Ruby and Arthur doing some crafts on the kitchen table while Pascale, Y/n and Lorenzo were with Baby Mathéo in the living room.

“Papa!” Ruby threw her crayon on the table and ran to Charles.

Charles let his suitcase fall to the ground. He wrapped his arms around Ruby and picked her up, spinning her a couple time as she laughed. “You didn’t cause any trouble, did you?” He kissed her cheek.

“No! I’m a very good girl. Ask mama and Théo!” Ruby giggled.

“Okay, I’ll ask them right now.” Charles set her down and turned his attention to the rest of his family. “How was my boy while I was gone? Was Ruby good?” He sat next to Y/n on the sofa.

“He didn’t cry at night often, but he did miss his papa a lot.” Y/n passed the baby to Charles. “And yes, she was an angel.”

“Just him and Ruby missed me?” Charles teased.

“I missed you!” Arthur spoke from the kitchen table.

“Anyone else missed me? Anybody?” Charles looked around, ignoring Arthur. “I’m kidding, I missed all of you.”

“Oh! The news! Ruby, want to tell papa now?” Y/n prepared herself for Charles’ reaction. Everyone did.

“What news, Ruby?”

“I have a boyfriend!”

“Mon amour, grab Théo please.”

Y/n took the baby from Charles’ arms and watched his confused face.

“Baby, you can’t have a boyfriend.” Charles said to Ruby. “You’re too young and he is too.”

“But I already made him a card! Uncle Arthur is helping me!” Ruby pointed at Arthur, who immediately dropped the marker from his hands and froze.

“Arthur! Why are you helping my daughter make a card for a boy?!”

“She didn’t tell me it was for her boyfriend.” Arthur defended himself.

“Yes I did. I said ‘uncle arthur can you help me make a card for my boyfriend?’ and you said yes.” Ruby innocently said.

“I thought she was joking.”

Charles shook his head. He knew it wasn’t a real relationship but he still didn’t like the idea of his little girl already thinking about boys and relationships.

“And you haven’t even heard the best part yet. They’re getting married.” Lorenzo added followed by a loud laugh.

“No one is getting married!” Charles announced.

“So you and mama aren’t getting married?” Ruby asked.

“We are married, baby.” Y/n said confused.

“But Ben’s parents got married two times. He told me.”

“So his name is Ben. Where does he live?” Charles asked and before Ruby could answer, Pascale hit his arm. “Maman! This Ben can’t date my daughter!”

“They’re kids, Charles.” Pascale said, bringing in her granddaughter for a hug.

“Y/N did you hear Danny might be coming back” Max said. “Good for him I guess” I said reading over some paper work. “I know you care about him” Max said. “No not like that anymore” I said. “He’s your best friend though” Max said.

“Was Max” I said. “Well when you aren’t grumpy he’s downstairs” Max said walking away. I then followed Max downstairs. To my surprise Daniel was talking to my father about something.

“Ah there she is” Dad said. “What’s up” I said. “Ricciardo is back he’s gonna be our third driver” Dad said. “That’s awesome” I said. “I thought you’d be happier than that” Max said. “Yeah just tired you know” I said. “It’s good to see you it’s been too long” Daniel said hugging me.

“Yeah it has” I said. There it was those feelings again. The butterflies as soon as he hugged me. “I missed you” he whispered in my ear. I stepped out of the hug. “So is he staying permanently” I said. “Yeah I think so at least” Daniel said smiling.

There’s that beautiful smile. God I love that smile.

“He is” Dad said. “Well that’s good news” I said. “Yeah it is” Max said. After catching up I went outside and sat at one of the tables and typed up some reports for Red Bull. Daniel then walked out and sat across from me.

“How long do you plan on being weird around me” Daniel said. “I’m not the one who ended things” I said. “You know why I did” Daniel said. “I don’t wanna hear the silly excuses of an age gap” I said. “It’s not just that.. you know your father” Daniel said.

“Whatever I don’t care do you need something” I said. “I just wanted to talk to you” Daniel said. “I don’t want to talk to you” I said. “I’m sorry I ended things” Daniel said. “I’m only 25 Daniel it’s not that big of a difference” I said.

“But it was to me and how people would’ve looked at it” he said. “You think I give a shit about what people think” I said. “You may not but I do” Daniel said. “Whatever Daniel” I said. Someone then came up behind me and kissed my cheek.

“Hi chéri what are you working on” Charles said. “Boring reports hi” I said kissing him. “You should come hang out with me” Charles said. “How was the meeting” I said he sat beside me. “I think it went well” he said putting a hand on my leg.

“Good” I said. “Hey Daniel heard your back at Red Bull” Charles said. “Yeah I am” Daniel said. “He’s gonna be the reserve driver” I said. “That’s nice welcome back” Charles said smiling. “So how longs this been going on” Daniel said.

“What” I said. “Oh me and Y/N” Charles said. “Yeah so how long have you two been sleeping together” Daniel said. “That’s not right” I said. “Daniel what’s the problem I know you two had a past but” Charles said. “What I do doesn’t concern you” I said.

“So Christian approves of Charles huh” Daniel said. “Daniel things change” I said. “He said before he didn’t want you dating on the grid” Daniel said. “He changed his mind after Charles” I said. “I asked him permission to ask her out” Charles said.

“… of course” Daniel said. “You broke up with me so” I said. “Because I you know what you two enjoy each other” Daniel said leaving. “Well that was lovely” Charles said.

“That’s how he is” I said. “His loss” Charles said kissing my forehead. “Yeah” I said. “What’s wrong” Charles said. “I don’t know.. I just feel awful” I said. “Because he’s upset he broke up with you” Charles said. “Yeah” I said.

“Why don’t you come see me for a bit” Charles said shutting my computer. “Char baby I have work to do” I said. “It’s quiet in my drivers room” he said taking my laptop. “That’s not funny” I said. “Well then if you want your computer come with me” Charles said I followed him.

It was time for the race and I sat by the computers. Daniel was near the wall. But he then came over to sit beside me.

“Nice” he said. “What’s the problem now” I whispered. “You run back over here after hooking up with Charles” Daniel said. “What I do with my boyfriend isn’t your concern” I said. “It is when you run back over here with messy hair.. and marks on your lower neck” Daniel said.

“You aren’t my boyfriend anymore” I said. “Still.. at least I was more sneaky about that” Daniel said. “Please.. don’t start that jealousy shit” I said. “Me jealous I’m not” he said. “Sure you know what I’m just gonna go” I said getting up.

“Where are you going” Dad asked. “Ummm Charles wanted me to watch his race so I’m gonna do that” I said. “Alright.. have fun” Dad said. I started walking over to the Ferrari paddock.

But Daniel followed me.

“This is stalking you know” I said. “So you’re just gonna run away from me huh” Daniel said. I stopped in my tracks. “Me.. run away don’t give me that lecture you ran away” I said. “Because… I got to close” Daniel said.

“Too close” I asked. “Yes… I wasn’t supposed to do that” Daniel said. “But you did you acted like you loved me then threw me away” I said. “And now you can’t stand that I’m in love with Charles can you” I said. He looked at me.

“You’re right I can’t” Daniel said. “I moved on and you are still stuck in the past” I said. “The past that was two years ago” Daniel said. “And you messed it all up by letting me go did you ever even love me” I said. “How can you ask me that” Daniel said.

“Answer the question Daniel” I said. “Yes I loved you god I still love you” Daniel said. “If you loved me then you wouldn’t have hurt me” I said. “And what Charles is gonna give you everything you want” Daniel said.

“Yeah… he is because unlike you he put me before his career” I said. Daniel didn’t look at me. “You can’t say that I did that” he said. “You did.. Daniel .. put everything over me” I said. “I did love you” he said trying to grab my hand.

I didn’t let him.

“Now you know how I feel to be in love with someone who acted like you didn’t exist” I said. “I never meant to hurt you that much” he said. “But you did.. just let me go Daniel” I said. “But I can’t do that” Daniel said.

“Then I’ll make the decision for you” I said walking away. “Y/N please” Daniel said. “Daniel I’m getting married.. let this go” I said. “Married … what do you mean” Daniel said.

“Did you bother to look at my finger or even my instagram oh wait you blocked me remember” I said. “Your… marrying him… you were supposed to” Daniel began to say. “Supposed to what marry you.. guess you can’t have everything you want” I said walking into the Ferrari paddock.

I walked into the garage and Charles ran over and hugged me.

“My girl.. I’m so happy you’re here” Charles said. “Gotta support my favorite driver” I said. “And fiancé” Charles said I smiled. “Of course” I said. “God I can’t wait to marry you” Charles said.

I went back to Red Bull and sat down by Max. Sure marrying Charles??? Out of all people

“What’s going on with you mate” Max said. “Y/N is engaged to Charles” I said. It still sounded so weird. “Oh … ha yeah they got engaged a couple months ago” Max said.

“I had no idea” I said. “I mean.. it makes since you know for well” Max said. “For what” I said. “There kid… don’t you know that” Checo said. “You’re telling me they have a child” Daniel said. “Yeah.. Jules you haven’t met him” Max said.

“How old is Jules” I asked. “Like two and a half years old” Checo said. “Yeah look here’s a picture of him with P they are best friends” Max said showing me a picture. “When did this happen” I said. “Two years ago they started dating after.. she broke up with her ex boyfriend then yk Jules came along” Max said.

“He’s Charles son” I asked. “Yeah.. why.. do you ask” Max said.

JEALOUSY

Charles had never experienced jealousy. When you were Charles Leclerc, there were very few things you had a reason to be jealous of. Don’t get me wrong, he had his fair share of tragedies. But when it came to petty jealousy, he was kind of immune.

He had the prettiest girls, the best clothes, the best cars, the best team.

He had the prettiest girls, the best clothes, the best cars, the best team.

So it takes him a moment to realize what that burning feeling in his chest stands for.

It happens, for example, when Carlos is holding Lando's hand AND looking at him for what feels like an eternity in the hallway before the sprint. And this strange feeling makes him uncomfortable and angry, so he tries to intervene. And he does it in the stupidest way possible.

He puts his hand on their handshake. Because he's getting angrier by the second.

He just wants them to stop touching.

Of course, there are cameras capturing his stupid move.

He doesn't really know why he did it.

 He's known for a very long time that Carlos and Lando are really good friends, it never bothered him more than that. But lately they seemed to have some kind of renewed spark, giggling and hugging on the podium.

Even though Carlos said they're his two favorite teammates.

It still bothers him.

 Yeah, right. It's the fourth year, Carlos, and we've been laughing every damn day, why can't you say I'm your favorite teammate?

Maybe something changed last week in Monaco. In fact, if Charles is honest with himself, he knows exactly what ignited a little fireball in his belly. It was right after the Monte Carlo Masters final. He was talking to George and Carmen in the VIP hospitality area. George was a good friend of Lando's. Of course, because Lando was so charming. Lando sitting with a pretty blonde across the court. And George, always the first with gossip, smiled and raised his eyebrows.

"So, he’s back to girls...," Carmen laughs as if she perfectly understands what it means. And Charles frowns.

"What do you mean?"

"You know," answers George, moving his face in a suggestive way.

"Mmh, ah yeah," answers Charles, who really DOESN’T know but can’t really imagine anything besides one thing. Is Lando bi ?

He can’t keep this idea out of his head. So one night in Shanghai, while he and Carlos are sat on boxes outside the Ferrari garage, softly chit-chatting and the dusk is wrapping them in blue and purple and the frogs are starting to wake up, he tries to bring up the subject as casually as he can.

He first pushes the direction of the conversation towards the tournament.

"Weren’t you a bit disappointed? I think the semi-finals were more interesting matches."

Carlos answers and says it’s okay, but what he’d really like to do is go to Roland Garros. Watch Nadal's final game. Shit. Charles prompts again, redirecting.

"Were you with Lando?"

"No, he was with a girl." Jackpooot. He switches with what he hopes is the most casual tone he could adopt.

"Oh yeah, it’s true... by the way, ahah, George told me he was surprised because… well, he said Lando used to… date boys."

"Ah, George, such a nosy bitch," Carlos says, looking at his phone without bothering to respond any further.

Charles bites his lip. He wants his answer. He NEEDS his answer to ease the ball of fire he feels growing in his chest. Charles doesn’t know how to be subtle.

"So, Lando is bi?" he blushes because really, it’s nowhere near subtle.

"Why do you care?" asks Carlos, suddenly looking at him intensely.

Charles falters, luckily, the night is fully set upon them because his face might be close to crimson, and he blurts out the first excuse he can think of.

"A gay friend of mine has a crush on him."

He never panicked so hard, it’s weird, he’s usually a chill dude. But his heart is at the edge of his lips. A wave of heat floods him, and his breath shortens.

"Who?" Carlos asks, frowning. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.

"You don’t know him. From Monaco." He clings to this thread. Fortunately, his overheated mind found this excuse because Charles has no friends who know Lando and that Carlos doesn’t know, and if Carlos had realized that, it would have made the rest of the conversation very uncomfortable.

Luckily, after what feels like suffocating seconds, Carlos lets it go with a grunt and shakes his shoulders.

He feels that sting, that crazy sting clouding his mind, making him act like a foolish fool and he watches himself open his mouth again to utter, "Oh...I didn’t know, if you knew."

"Ha…," scoffs Carlos, shaking his head, letting his eyes gaze into the faraway... "oh believe me, I know."

Charles knows he should shut the fuck up. But he can't because this sentence alone and the tone with which Carlos said it, stir up a thousand more questions. He should leave before it's too late. He’s already asked too much.

He isn’t close enough with Lando to keep pushing, for his curiosity to make sense.

But nonetheless he asks.

"How did you find out?"

"Mmh… " Carlos looks at him a bit surprised by his questions. Usually Charles isn't the kind to ask personal questions. "I’m not really comfortable sharing his personal stuff, Charles."

The "Charles" should be his cue to fucking stop pushing. Because Carlos said it in a way that doesn’t offer contradiction.

But he is stupid. He is the most stupid man to ever exist. So he fakes a laugh.

"Come on, Cahrlos, tell me, I’m your favorite teammate " He tries to be playful, but he so desperately needs to know that it must be really obvious in his tone. He feels cringe and shameful and immature and he wants to burry himself into the ground.

But he also wants the answer.

"Why," laughs Carlos, "your friend wants to know?"

And Charles backs down. He isn't brave enough.

"You’re right, I shouldn’t gossip like that, damn George really rubs off on me."

They keep chatting about tennis. He tries to focus on Carlos deep voice to avoid getting lost on thoughts about Lando.

But that night, as he lies in bed, the overthinking starts.

He keeps replaying the conversation, trying to extract from it every bit of info he can.

"Oh yes, believe me I know" - why this tone, why this almost tragic tone, melancholic.

Ideas start to swirl.

Did Carlos stumble upon Lando being with a boy? Did Lando make a move on Carlos? Did Carlos make a move on him? Could Carlos have done something with… no, no, no, Charles, come back to your senses.

He lies awake.

The little ball of fire starts swelling in his chest at the thought of Lando being near Carlos.

But that’s stupid.

Because Carlos is straight.

And Carlos is only friend with Lando.

He is.

Is he?

Isn’t it weird though how close and touchy they are?

Well, Carlos is a touchy guy.

But especially with Lando.

And him.

Anyway, he can’t because 90% of his brain is focused on the race and the ten other % are literally occupied by… okay, he wanted to call that rage ? But it’s that burning itch making him want to punch every man too close to Carlos. Making him want to act like an imbecile just so Carlos would look at him.

It takes up too much space in his mind to let anything else in. He scooches alongside the Spaniard anytime he can. He develops weird strategies to be sure he’s next to him during the parade.

He keeps an eye on Lando at all times. He scrolls down Teto’s Instagram and re-watches the Don’t Blink on YouTube. Clenching his teeth at the winter one. Carlos lifting him like that, like a feather.

Teto acting exactly like a wag, getting along with Sainz Sr, sitting near Carlos in restaurants,

Teto, who is actually very pretty. Shiny golden hair. Big eyes.

When Charles sees him leaning against a railing above one of the numerous ponds of the Shanghai paddock, he has the urge to throw him overboard.

Maybe a crocodile could eat him. Are there crocodiles in Shanghai ?

That way, he would never again hold Carlos’s shoulder while laughing.

Then the weekend is over.

He looks through the window of the plane. Today he flies back to Monaco. He has been a nightmare to deal with, yelling at everybody. He feels restless and irritated.

Yet the weekend has been good. Everything ran smoothly. Carlos had even congratulated him for the third place, gave him a hug. But after, at the corner of his eyes, he had seen him hugging Lando, holding him by the neck. Diving into one of their secret conversations.

And just a few hours later. He had heard they were flying back together on the same plane.

TOWARDS MONACO.

He goes to Monaco too!!! He is Monegasque! Why can’t Carlos ask him to fly with HIM? Why Lando? Always Lando! Insufferable, childish, giggly, never-won-a-race Lando!

he hates feeling the way he does right now. he sees all the drivers heads turn when you walked into the gala, it was his own fault for not protesting the short dress you’re wearing, so now he has to deal with his own consequences.

he doesn’t let you out of his sight— let alone grip. he’s afraid if any of the guys see you alone, they’ll make a move. he watches you laugh at something Charles was saying, he’s across the room with yuki but his eyes don’t leave you. he watches the way your hand rests above your cleavage while you laugh, it’s like you’re practically asking for him to stare there.

Pierre huffs out an annoyed sigh that you could practically hear from across the room, but you’re too wrapped into the conversation with Charles to care. your boyfriend could spend some time sulking in the corner, you didn’t need him attached at your hip. you knew the dress you had picked out would wow him, but you didn’t expect it to mean he would get jealous when others noticed how well dressed you were.

“I swear it was funny you just had to have been there— right Carlos?” Charles catches the Spaniard before he makes his way to lando, he nods along while Charles retells the story, he laughs at each line and adds his own two cents. the duo was always hilarious to be around.

Pierre’s eyes narrow in on Carlos, he watches the Spaniards eyes slip away from your face and to your chest, he nearly rises out of his seat to go over there, but he hears yuki scoff from beside him, “so protective learn to let her be.”

“next time you’ll have to include me in pranking pierre, I need to get back at him.” you say, head turning slightly in his direction catching his blue eyes glued to you. his fingers tips tapping the arms of the chair he’s sitting in, you notice something’s up with him.

“I better go attend to him before he blows up.” you bid your goodbye to the Ferrari drivers before waltzing your way over to your boyfriend who’s sitting up in his chair, legs spread he pats his thigh for you to take a seat on.

“why so sulky?” you collapse against his body feeling his hand rest against your ass as you press a kiss to his cheek, you hear yuki fake gag from beside him, getting up to leave you two alone.

“nothing, amour. you enjoy talking to Charles?” his hand squeezes your ass hearing a small gasp escape your lips at his gesture. considering the elegance of the event, you wouldn’t have expected him to be so touchy.

“Oui toujours.” you brush your lips against his cheek before getting up from his lap and adjust the dress further down your thighs in front of him. you know he’s watching you can practically feel the smirk against his lips, “not so jealous are you now huh?” you turn around, pressing your hands against each arm of the chair hovering over him.

“just got the best show of my life, how could I be?” his eyes flicker down to your chest, he can see the depth of your cleavage and just how close your breasts are against each other, “don’t bend like that in front of anybody else but me.” his eyes move upwards connecting with yours, a little smile spreading across your face, but his is far more serious.

“I think I’m going to go show lando a little something, I heard he’s single—“

“you kill me.” he groans watching you slip out of his sight. he decides to get up from the chair and refresh his drink, he’s going to need it with the way you’re acting.

“you act like anybody in this room is going to take her home.” Charles chuckles into his drink watching his friend glare at lando from across the bar awaiting his drink.

“the way she’s dressed people might forget.” he hisses at his friend taking the drink from the bartender and nearly downs all the contents in the glass, but Charles is there to stop him.

Charles snorts patting Pierre on the back, “can’t believe I’m saying this then go show her who she goes home to.” he didn’t need much convincing after that, he just marches around the bar until he gets to you. his hand slips around your waist and you don’t need to look to know who it is.

the whiff of his cologne is intoxicating, you knew it could only have been his. he sits in the bar chair, knee pressed against your ass while his hand that’s against your waist starts playing with the zipper of your dress. you’re trying your best to listen to lando, but the childish man beside you is making it damn near impossible.

“I’m sure Oscar will be a great mate to have with you this year. I’m always rooting for mclaren.” you feel the heat spread across your face feeling his hand slip from your back.

lando laughs pointing to Pierre’s shocked expression, you just turn to him with a sheepish smile, “what? I look good in orange.” you shrug turning to lando, he nods in agreement with you.

“you should be rooting for alpine, amour.” he hisses in your ear, but it’s loud enough for lando to hear as well. the Brit laughs making up an excuse to leave you two alone now.

“so jealous aren’t you?” you turn to face him, arms crossed over your chest pushing your breast closer together he can’t stand the sight of it.

Charles knows that he has nothing to worry about. You’ve professed your love to each other on numerous occasions. He knows that you love him with your whole heart. But it doesn’t stop the sinking feeling in his stomach when he sees you hanging around Carlos.

He also knows that Carlos would never betray him. He would never try to steal you away from him. They were teammates for god sake, they were close friends, practically brothers. He trusted Carlos, and he trusted you.

He’s not blind though. He knows that Carlos is affectionately referred to as the Smooth Operator. He’s seen the thirst traps that the Ferrari social media team has posted of him. He can see why so many women find him attractive, so why wouldn’t you?

But Charles swallows his discomfort down and makes his way over to you. He wraps an arm around your waist pulling you to him, and kisses you.

He kisses you like his life depends on it, like you’re his oxygen supply. You gasp into the kiss, giving Charles the perfect opportunity to slide his tongue into your mouth. He feels your hands press against his chest on his fireproofs. You pull away to take a much needed breath and let your eyes take him in.

He’s just as breathless as you, but a smirk rests on his face. His hair is mussed up, like he’s run his hands through it too many times. His fireproofs cling to him, showing off the muscles in his arms and defining the outline of his abs. His race suit hangs low on his hips, just covering the waistband of his fireproofs. He looks beautiful.

He smirks because he can tell he’s managed to, for lack of a better term, take your breath away. Your lips are slightly swollen, and move as if you want to say something but can’t find the right words. He can practically see stars in your eyes as they shine looking up at him.

Carlos scoffs but can’t help from smiling. He had never expected Charles to be so possessive of you, but he knows Charles is going to do whatever he must to protect those he loves. He gives Charles a pat on the back as he walks away.

“I’ll give you two some space to continue with your rendezvous. But before you pull off each other’s clothes, remember we are in a public place and there are cameras everywhere.” He winks as he walks away, leaving you to flush in Charles’ embrace.

Charles chuckled as he ruffled up your hair and yelled through the blaring music, “Thank you, petit chou. Have you seen your favorite person?”

“Blech, don’t remind me about him,” You groaned as you pretended to throw up, “All your other friends are nice! But him? Mon dieu, il est une menace!” My god, he’s a menace.

“You know, you did spill coffee all over him for like…three times,” Charles laughed as he guided you to a table with his friends inside the bar, “I can’t blame Carlos.”

Frowning, you punched his shoulder playfully as you sat down and smoothened your skirt, “Just because it’s your birthday doesn’t mean you’re exempted from my punches.”

“Peu importe ce que tu dis,” He grinned as he patted your head, “I’ll head over to Charlotte, just ring me up, okay? The bar’s just everyone I know so don’t worry.” Whatever you say.

“Go on, birthday boy,” You laughed as you tried to push him away, “I’ll see you later.”

Charles smiled at you as he headed off to the other side of the party, leaving you with the other drivers on the grid. Carlos was at the far end of the table, exchanging glances every now and then, but you never bothered to strike up a conversation and opted one with the blonde haired German driver instead.

“Just look at her,” Mick smiled as he showed you pictures of his dog, Angie, on his phone, “A tennis ball seriously can’t last for long with her!”

“Oh my god, my dog too!” You laughed as you took a sip of your drink, “I had to hoard on the tennis balls instead of running out to get one everyday.”

“You know what? We should definitely let them play together sometime,” He offered as he set his phone down, “I feel like Angie needs to have more pup friends.”

“That’d be great!” You eagerly nodded as you grabbed your phone and opened your contacts list before handing it to Mick, “Just put yourself in my contacts. I hope Stella and Angie would get along well.”

Mick smiled as he handed you back your phone, “You know what people say, dogs can reflect their owners and you’re nice.”

“Aw, thank you, Mick. I could say the same to you,” You smiled as you patted his shoulder before standing up, “I’ll catch you later?”

As Mick nodded in response, you smiled as you headed out to the back door of the bar to catch some fresh air on the balcony. But, what you didn’t know was that a certain someone followed you out.

“Guess you’ve got a thing for Mick now, huh?”

Frowning from knowing that voice, you turned around to see Carlos leaning against the wall, “What about it?”

“Nothing, nothing,” He chuckled as he shrugged, “Anyone knows what he was trying to do.”

“Oh please, Sainz,” You rolled your eyes as you crossed your arms, “All we talked about was our dogs!”

“Sure, princesa,” He smirked as he mirrored your stance and expression, “It’s obvious he was into you.”

“Are you being fucking serious right now?” You looked at him with annoyance written all over your face, “Why do you care anyways?”

“I don’t,” He grumbled as he kicked at the ground before walking to stand beside you, “I’m just saying. I don’t think he’s good enough for you.”

“And why is that?” You faced him as you poked at his chest and glaring, “Mick has been nicer to me in a span of an hour, compared to how you’ve been an asshole to me for nearly half a year!”

“Excuse me?”

“Yeah, that’s right,” You scoffed as you confidently looked up at him, “Asshole.”

“You’re seriously trying to pick a fight with me?”

“And what if I am?” You gritted through your teeth, “I’m so fucking tired of your immaturity when I’ve tried to be nice to you! If I didn’t have any respect for Charles, I would’ve never bothered to try and make amends with you!”

Carlos raised his eyebrow as he looked down at you, “Are you finished?”

“No, I’m just getting started!” You throw your hands up as you paced around the balcony, “I hate the way you treat me, how you fucking stare at me. I hate your dumb smile when you’re with other people except me. I hate your stupid laugh, especially when Charles tells you some pointless joke.”

Before Carlos could open his mouth, you raised your finger up at him as you continued, “Every single time a fucking guy tries to talk to me, you always make some stupid comment and it drives them away!”

Carlos took a deep breath and walked over to you, putting his hands on your shoulders, “Now are you finished?”

You sighed as you rubbed a hand down your face, “I’m just so done, Carlos.”

“Princesa…” He trailed off as he whispered, “I just- kiss me.”

“What did you just say?”

“Kiss me,” Carlos looked down at you, gently tucking your hair behind your ear.

Wrapping your arms around his neck, you took a deep breath and leaned in to kiss who you had thought to be your enemy.

Carlos smiled throughout the kiss, dropping his hands to your waist to hold you closer. This can’t be happening, he thought as he felt like this was just a dream.

You pulled away as it started to sink in. You kissed the guy you were supposed to hate.

“Fuck fuck fuck,” You exclaimed as you ran a hand through your hair, “What just happened?”

“We kissed,” Carlos shrugged as he had a small smile on his face, “It was pretty nice.”

- wasn’t super affectionate towards her until he was napping like an old man in his recliner and she curled up on his lap

- he woke up and acted annoyed, looked around to see if you were there then looked back at her and couldn’t stop himself from smiling as he pet her.

- life changed

- this dog is precious to him

- only the best brands of food, most reputable groomers, always has her favorite treats stocked up, wouldn’t trust anyone to watch her.

- you thought you loved this dog? john loves her 10 times more.

- christmas cards with your dog

a blue staffordshire bull terrier

- wanted to get you a guard dog, you insisted on adopting from a shelter

- almost left empty handed but a little staffy caught your eye.

- stole your heart immediately the little guy was wagging his tail and sitting patiently at the kennel door. when the shelter staff explained he was a rescue from dog fights and had some temperament issues so he wasn’t easily adoptable he stole ghost’s heart.

- saw himself in the dog

- needless to say you took home that little staffy

- surprisingly patient with the pup and his behavioral issues

- he nipped at ghost once out of nerves and you prepared for the worst but ghost backed off to give him space instead

- invests in a lot of training for him, will switch trainers if he finds their methods are too hard on your pup

- i think the dog would bring you two closer and let him open up more, especially as the training goes on and there’s noticeable progress

- brings out a different side of ghost tbh, much more vulnerable and happy. not a care in the world when he’s with that dog

- remembers the adoption date and literally takes the dog for a day out, a (pup friendly) meal, a run around the park, a new toy, and finally a fancy ass treat when you’re all back home together

2 scottish terriers

- would not choose to own a dog per say, he basically is one doesn’t need another

- you already had dogs when you started dating and he would never ask you to get rid of them, they were your babies and you made that clear when you blabbered about them non stop your first date

- never saw himself settling down so seriously so he didn’t think much of it

- now he lives with two dogs, scottish terriers funny enough

- acts like he doesn’t like them

- calls them tweedledee and tweedledum

- definitely frantically researches if the dogs can have a bite of his dinner and gives them some if they can. not because the food is bad but because its so good he wants them to experience it too

- new dog toys keep appearing that you didn’t buy but soap insists it wasn’t him

- gets jealous when they’re on your lap getting all your attention

- you have to pet him too

- you went on a trip once and he stayed with the dogs, when you came back they were all sleeping in your bed

- no rhyme or reason for this one he just gives me a dalmatian vibe

- would probably have a male dog named pongo like from 101 dalmatians

- loves playing fetch with him
