At this point I'm like 99% sure that the twist Sam struggled with is just the Harlequin thing. Like it sure it goes deeper and it will have its consequences to the story since it doesn't happen like that in the books but it's just so funny that Sam took it so seriously. He's truly a blessing for the book readers side of the fandom🥲

After seeing this video here I tend to agree ;)

And yes - we are very, very lucky!

I do think that we don’t have to worry for seeing “Lelio“ in s3 though… I have a feeling Sam and Rolin already had that discussion 😅

Also - the Lelio-plot might be too important for this season‘s quick flashbacks, since that’s part of Magnus‘… selection.

1. Are you named after anyone? Yes, after a Spanish saint from the 800s who was decapitated for apostasy. My mother is catholic so...

2. When was the last time you cried? Yesterday. I was watching the new season of Black Mirror.

3. Do you have kids?

Thank fuck no!

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Yep, it's my love language.

5. What sports do you play/have played?

Not much of a sport girly but I used to be part of an amateur running club and then grad school and covid happened and I haven't really picked it up again.

6. What's the first thing you notice about people?

Probably their scent. I'm obsessed with fragrances and I love people who smell nice.

7. What's your eye color?

Very dark brown. 👀

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings. I know they are unrealistic but I will still eat that shit up. I go to my media for escapism, not realism thank you very much.

9. Any special talents?

Not really. I'm very fickle in my interests so I rarely stick with anything long enough to get really good at it. But I can do many things decently well.

10. Where were you born?

East Africa.

11. What are your hobbies?

Reading, writing, music, movies—especially period dramas, hiking and biking when the weather's nice, which is like 3 months out of the year.

12. Do you have pets?

Nope, but I used to have a cat when I was younger, and she was adorable. (RIP Johnny)

13. How tall are you?

Quite short, 1m60. Not sure what that is in feet for the metrically challenged.

French Literature.

Can I say how much I LOVE the way Daciana is written into the story. Like eventhough she is a OC it felt the most anne ricean thing that've seen so far. I think it has to do with the compassion with which she wrote monsters, specially vampires. It felt more like a tribute to her writing than just a remarkable and beautiful plot device. The way she foreshadows Madeline, Magnus, Nicolas, somehow even Gabrielle🖤

She just fit. So, so well. Old, disillusioned, broken.

And yes, the way she foreshadows so much?

And god the choice to make that revenant not only a simple mindless vampire but her beloved child. Someone she cherished, despite and maybe because of everything.

Not just a thing. Not just an abomination. Not just a… mistake.

Carmen (chicalepidoptera) is contributing page art to Freedom in the Dark!  

Carmen, Spanish illustrator. Back in 2017, Black Sails turned around everything she thought she knew about love, pirates and storytelling. Her current interests are The Old Guard, Måneskin and making fanarts about them. She also writes fanfiction sometimes. She draws her inspiration from Medieval and Renaissance Art, classic literature and mythology.

At first I was outraged by the Marius change. I was so disappointed. My first thought was oh great they've changed a vital point in his relationship with Armand just to make him even worse to the viewers somehow. But after watching it for a second time I realized...it is actually the other way around!

First of all the change is not even that much of a change since in the books Marius actually takes Armand to those brothels. So no reason to fear in relation to the accuracy with the source. They really know what they're doing.

What I had never expected is that, by adapting Marius and Armand relationship to the show's circumstances, they will actually go down the route of stablishing parallels between Marius AND Louis??! It's not just the pimp thing. It is also the commentary about Louis wanting to be both a dealer and an artist and then Marius being presented as a donor and a painter. Like, they're not painting Marius in a better light whatsoever (pun intended). On the contrary, this is a direct confrontation with the "fuck Marius" section of the fandom that refuses to see him as nothing but the only true monster while they make Louis the only true victim. And it is BRILLIANT the way it challenges the fandom's own conception of evil in the story that it's precisely about that

Yeah, there are a LOT of layers to that part we got. (I wouldn't call it "other way around"^^, but of course these writers would make more of it, than "just worse" :))

The "donor" part also struck me. And, given how the relationship Armand and Marius had also parallels part of what he will have / has had with Daniel? They are setting up powerful narrative structures there.

But yeah, Marius did take and send Armand to brothels to... "learn". Said it yesterday, but it opens up the "cuck chair" rather uncomfortably, too.

In the parallel you described the art of Louis is also something of which little survives, just as with Marius' paintings.

I'm not sure this is a direct confrontation with the fandom... I don't think the show or its writers care much about that.:) I do agree however that this show won't go the easy route with the characters, there is no "evil", no "good". No morally pure.

There's just people in impossible circumstances, changed into monsters, in a way. And given time to fully expand on their own toxic traits. (And I cannot believe how lucky we are that they are indeed going full mess.)

I think these writers will be able to paint Marius in all colors, when he's finally there. And he will be there, so we might want to brace ourselves :)))

The comment "Unworthy in San Francisco. Unworthy in Dubai. Disregard" from Armand to Daniel...who is really Armand referring to? Daniel or...himself? Cause there's so much bitterness in it right after Daniel has diminished Louis' love for Armand compared to Lestat. Iirc Assad (or Sam) has already spoken about Armand's jealousy for Lestat and his (Armand's) desperation for love. There is also this moment at the end of the episode when Armand tries to speak and Daniel cuts him off. He's obviously not pleased but is it just him being pissed off or is there something else? The way Louis kind of reassures him after that...

I'm just having THE emotional breakdown thinking about Armand and his feelings of rejection and loneliness first Marius then Lestat then 70 years with the man that won't stop hallucinating the other one that rejected him...and that's probably what happened with Daniel too then? Like seriously poor Armand I think he's already suffered more than Jesus

Yes, there is that aspect to it, of course.

But especially wrt Daniel... I think there is a part of Armand which enjoys the bitching, and massively so. Oh, it's tinged with anger, and bitterness, and yes, maybe a bit jealousy.

But given how the Devil's Minion arc plays out in the books?

I think that look here:

That's grim satisfaction almost. Dark enjoyment. I mean there have to be a myriad of feelings at play there.

And it all calls back to the dynamic they had (in the book) and will likely have in the show, too, namely that Daniel challenges Armand, constantly. He doesn't just take anything.

And Armand enjoys that - immensely.
