Since we were on sharing theories, I was about to tell mine but as I was typing it, I started arguing with myself and finding counter-arguments and now this theory seems totally unlikely. Hope everyone is doing good! Let's look forward the 200th chapter! Hope it brings good news!
(my theory was that the kids in the orphanage would be used for more than just blood collecting; UT said the BDs needs "episodes" to keep going, so they would raise the kids to be as close "mentally" to those who would "inherit" those episodes, except that's an awful lot of kids just to make fake memories of the future for those 4 stars people)
Collecting episodes?
I got an ask similar to that about a month ago, or maybe it was just brought up during a discussion. Either way, I argued that episodes are about personal goals in life, and even if these kids have the same blood types and are being "shaped" to have similar souls, their personal aspirations are going to be wholly different from the lords they are paired with.
Besides, as I also mentioned before, Undertaker says that real Ciel was "chock full" of episodes of his own. And don't forget that Undertaker sets these episodes on a loop. That's why the bd's on the ship just had their minds filled with Undertaker cosplaying Charlie Chaplin. And why someone like Arden (and his friends) who didn't seem to have much in the way of life goals, just repeats stuff about tea (or cricket, etc.). Those simple thoughts weren't strong enough to keep them in line, so to speak.
Like real Ciel, the other lords of the stars seem to have a fair amount of episodes. Polaris wants to serve his master, Layla/Al seems to focus on hedonism (to an extent, anyway) and living in the moment... though she/they might have some private goals we don't know about, and Doll wants revenge against our earl and Sebastian for her own death and the destruction of her friends. Why would they need more "episodes"?
I do agree, however, that Undertaker is interested in harvesting more than just blood. Most of them are being used just for their blood, yes. But the top students are probably being primed for using not just their blood but also their souls. It's back to the whole "soul shape" thing that Jane mentioned in Yorkshire, at Heathfield's manor.
Undertaker previously told our earl and Sebastian that bd's cannot use the souls of the people they attack, and he says he cannot make a soul... but he never says he can't manipulate souls that already exist. The bd's can't... but he probably can.
But I hope all the rest of the students can make it out alive....

These observations are somewhat premature since the translation has yet to be released, but I’m currently going insane over this panel from the raws:
The orphans’ outfits bear a striking resemblance to a certain undead Phantomhive heir’s attire, don’t they?
And, of course, the Fenian Cycle held great personal significance for both of the twins during their formative years:
As my good fren and mutual @bapydemonprincess noted here last month, the orphanage’s layout as displayed thus far is eerily similar to the Phantomhive family manor…and now we have a gaggle of boys potentially being trained up as new Ciel copycats? The game is afoot!
I wonder if Undertaker is using this establishment as a means of molding the children’s spirits in R!Ciel’s image, thus developing a replacement soul for the little bizarre doll. (Perhaps a similar principal guided Baron Chris Heathfield’s trysts with his maids to assess the shape of their souls…was he looking for a suitable psyche to reanimate his deceased wife?)
It’s also quite apt that the Fenian Cycle receives a cameo during this Finnian-centric arc, considering that O!Ciel named the gardener after one of the heroes found within its pages.
Not sure if this callback will have additional plot relevance down the line, but it’s an interesting detail! Our sweet Finny will probably need to be stronger than a whole herd of deer if he hopes to survive this mission unscathed. 😭

There is probably more than one Shinigami deserter behind the Blue sect and revenge arcs
Old theory is old [x][x], but I wanted to explain it more thoroughly considering the few recent discoveries.
At this point, I think everyone can imagine that, considering the scale of the operation thus far (with several blood collection sites, a high tech lab, etc), UT needs sponsors and specific backup in order to make it all work, especially considering he seems to mostly hang around real!Ciel.
This is backed up even more by similar previous examples in the story, such as:
the circus arc, in which that mad doctor was sponsored by Baron Kelvin for their twisted experiments
the Green witch arc, with the whole deception around Sieglinde in Germany sponsored by the state
Sieglinde’s new lab in England is now sponsored by Queen Victoria
In other words, without money there is no medical or scientific wonder. And UT probably doesn’t have enough money in his wallet, considering...
...he didn’t get paid much when he was working as a mortician (this isn’t a joke, he despises the Queen a lot).
Therefore it’s likely that the sponsors were there since the start of the BD experiment, as it was already hinted during the Campania arc.
Several Japanese fans (and I think some fans here as well) previously mentioned it’s possible the Undertaker managed to realize this first experiment because the Campania belonged to the Blue Star Line company, who may have been involved in the Aurora society because they wanted to resurrect their heir (Patrick Phelps who died in Ciel’s manor, one arc prior).
When it comes to the Weston arc, the previous Prefect Four called on the Aurora Society to resurrect the students and teacher that they had killed, which is how UT ended up supervising Derrick Arden’s return as well as Ciel’s investigation.
Until then, UT explained each step of the BD project, from the editing of the cinematic records to the supplementary episodes (”yearning for the future”) that are grafted (and he sacrificed many BDs, except real!Ciel). This means it’s possible that UT, as a skilled Shinigami before deserting, would have been able to edit the records by himself.
However, the scale changed once more with the Blue Sect arc, adding actual medicine to the resurrection process and that’s precisely when Othello hinted...
...that UT alone wouldn’t have been able to make it work, because he lacks the scientific knowledge.
This is further confirmed in ch149 when Othello recalls that no one actually expected UT to turn into a mad scientist able to do this...
Besides, as UT himself explained in ch141, it’s because he was trying to bring the twin back in the first place that he ended up working on the BD project, which led to the 3 arcs we know.
In other words, it’s because UT researched a way to bring the twin back that it led to him meeting with these “eccentric fellows”. And now, the growing number of bizarre dolls are simply the results of people paying
to get some people resurrected as a BD (that couple in the Campania arc, the Prefect Four, Phelps’ family? Chris Heathfield ?)
or to get BDs as weapons (Queen Victoria? maybe Germany and France which would explain why UT went there briefly during Summer?)
In the Blue sect arc, we even saw a new form of “sponsors”: people paying to get better health and a slightly prolonged life...
...until they became a blood collection source and died.
Aside from UT lacking enough medical knowledge, another reason I think there is another deserting Shinigami involved is because the consequences of the BD experiments are a real liability for the Shinigamis’ higher-ups:
And while we don’t know why UT or any other Shinigami deserted, it’s been hinted before that they could have discovered something incredibly shady behind the Shinigami Organization. [x][x][x]
So, while UT seems mostly motivated by a personal goal (not losing more Phantomhives), it’s possible that another deserting Shinigami would have a completely different motive, one that might include shattering the balance of the world.
In any case, the fact that ch191 showed Layla/Al (Lord Vega, a status she probably has because someone in her family paid a lot of money to have her resurrected and on blood transfusions, maybe she’s Chris Heathfield’s daughter?) wielding a possible death scythe is just yet another hint of more Shinigami deserter(s) being involved in this project.
After all, UT mentioned that it was quite hard to leave the Organization with his scythe, so for now I don’t think he managed to smuggle out several scythes (nor to create one from scratch), meaning that:
these scissors/daggers belong to another Shinigami who deserted and who lent them to Layla
or that UT took them from another Shinigami whom, in that case, he most likely killed (post desertion)
As to who this deserter could be, well, a Japanese fan whose thoughts I love reading, because they always make a lot of sense, theorized before that this Shinigami deserter might be...
...the doctor who recruited Ada (can’t be Stoker btw, he had no glasses).
Of course, their identity is only speculation at this point, but I find this would make more sense than UT single-handedly managing this big-ass operation when he only claims that he started to get involved in the BD project because “he didn’t want to lose more Phantomhives”. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I hope this made sense! Please let me know if I have forgotten a hint!

I finally got around to reading Kuroshitsuji chapter 155. Before I try to catch up on everyone's thoughts and theories about what is happening, I want to give my quick take on the situation and this chapter...
My current theory is that Jane is telling the truth, the Baron loved his wife (perhaps child too) so much that he couldn't accept her death. He became one of the wealthy donors supporting the Aurora Society and eventually a supporter of UT and rCiel. I don't think the Baron and Jane's mission is just gathering blood for UT and rCiel. I think he is helping UT in his final step to perfecting the bizarre dolls, that would be replacing their souls. That is why he doesn't care what the maid look like as much as her compatibility and the "shape of her soul." I'm also guessing they haven't perfected the process yet either, which is why so many maids are disappearing.
As for Jane, I don't think she is any sort of supernatural being, as some have proposed. It could be possible Jane was once one of the nurses helping Rian at the hospital and that is how they met. But there is something about that that seems off to me. Then this panel has given me an idea for a new possibility for how Jane fits in to all of this...
I think it is very likely that Jane is a bizarre doll version of the Baron's wife. There is something about the sweep of the hair, the shape of the face, and the carriage of her body that seems similar to the faceless Baroness. It would explain why she does not act like a servant and her protectiveness to the Baron's secrets. It would also explain her obvious familiarity and affection for the Baron. And it would be the reason why she is still around after being the Baron's favorite when it seems that most disappear. Plus by being disguised as a maid means she can get more information about possible subjects. Not to mention that the tragic story of a widower baron looking for a new baroness amongst his maids is better honey trap than your average lecherous nobleman.
Edited to add: I've felt for a while that Undertaker final goal is to save OCiel's soul by merging it with rCiel body. Bring the twins together forever.
Thoughts?
