Quiet Time 4/23

What am I feeling today?

Honestly, I feel guilty for not posting my quiet times lately. I’ve been learning some incredible things and it’s selfish to keep it to myself and also not useful to me if I don’t have it written down anywhere because then I forget! Also, I’m feeling overwhelmed, it’s my last week of the semester and I’m worried about school, the fashion show, and women’s day at my church because they’re all happening within this next week and it’s just a lot on my plate because I want to be able to achieve it all to the best of my ability.

The Prideful Soul’s Guide to Humility

Reality Will Not Change

Man will never succeed in his effort to pull himself up to the level of God, and he certainly will never be in a position where he will be able to look down on God. Cocky, arrogant man may make disparaging comments about God. He may ridicule God. He may prance and strut around as though he is more clever than God. He may boast that he does not need God. He may live as though he is "the master of his fate and the captain of his soul." But one day he will stand in the presence of the righteous and holy God, and he will tremble as he realizes that he was never greater than God. It was all an absurd, fool-hearted and deadly game of pretending. Isaiah describes such a man

Isaiah 14:12-17 NIV

“How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit. This ruler that Isaiah is describing once exercised authority over many. So expansive was his power that he fantasized that he could make himself like the Most High. But his glory was short-lived, and he ended up just like the other men in the shame of the grave.

So it will be with every pride. ful soul that does not bow in humility before the God who made him. Nothing man can do will change reality. He is not God. He will never be God. As long as he ignores that truth, his life will be headed for a disastrous conclusion. For God opposes the proud.

James 4:6 NIV

“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.””

1 Peter 5:5 NIV

“In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.””

The Truth Sets You Free

Jesus taught, "You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free." Even those who do not acknowledge Jesus as the Christ agree that this is the highest kind of wisdom. Universities place this saying over their doors. Scientists are fiercely committed to finding the truth. Whenever you ask for guidance or counsel, you want to get it from someone who is fully in touch with the truth.

When you make decisions on the most important issues in your life, you need to be in touch with the most central truths of life. The most important truth any of us can ever know is that there is a God, but we are not him. Any confusion about either one of those things gets us into big trouble. There is a great and powerful God who wants a relationship with us and who will use his amazing power to bless our lives, but we are the creatures and he is the Creator. Everything we have, we have from his hand. Have you done some great things? Have you received some recognition for accomplishments? If so, you did those things with the mind and strength God gave you. Without him you would be nothing.

As Paul said to the proud Athenians: “He himself gives all men life and breath and everything else” (Acts 17:25)

The basis for humility, then, is quite simple. Humility is the only thing that makes sense because of how eternal and unchanging and powerful God is and how fading and precarious and dependent we are. Nothing you do in your life will ever change that. People are sometimes humble until they enjoy some great success. What fools we can be! A little success, achieved by the grace of God, does not change the nature of reality. It does not change who you are and who God is.

To live in accordance with the truth, we all need to practice the presence of God. We need to live all the time just as if we were standing in the presence of someone very important because we are. Think of some recent prideful thing you did. Would you have done that if you had been aware that you were standing in the very presence of the holy, righteous and almighty God? Would you have treated your friend the way you did? Would you have treated your spouse the way you did? Would you have taken the credit that you took? Would you have been defensive when corrected?

This is such a good reminder for me because sometimes I don’t think about the fact that everything I do is in the presence of God. I can go about my day ignoring Him sometimes or thinking He’s not around to see certain things but that so blind and ignorant! He’s literally watching me right now and every moment of my life! I need to go about the days of my life acknowledging Him because He’s everywhere!

What do you think about the religious theories regarding Deltarune? The theories that Deltarune's plot is influenced by or is a deconstruction of the Book of Revelations, that Noelle is a Christ-like figure, that Gaster is connected to 666/Devil. And also, the one where Ralsei is thought to be a funny deconstruction of the devil. Since the prince of darkness(devil) is portrayed as a socially awkward and nerdish teenager.

Overall I wouldn't be surprised if a number of religious themes show up in Deltarune, if Toby's upbringing is any indication. His talking about doodling game ideas on the back of church bulletins is pretty much exactly the sort of thing I did as a kid, too.

For specifics, though, I think that depends. For one thing, I definitely think that Gaster is being set up as a devil figure, or at least filling the role of the devil, to the point where I think he's separate from the scientist Gaster we have hints of in Undertale. The use of sixes with him comes up waaaay too often for that to not be saying something. Haven't really heard any of that for Noelle being a Christ figure, I think the suggestion is more pointing towards her being connected to the Angel. The monster's religion seems to have a lot of aesthetic overlap with Christianity, but isn't actually Christianity (especially with them not believing in the concept of sin.)

And I haven't seen anything about it being a deconstruction of Revelations; I think I would need to actually see what that says first. That one makes me wary because ho boy, Revelations gets misinterpreted and misunderstood really badly by a lot of Christians and society as a whole. So uhh, kinda depends on how that one is handled. But at least from the two chapters we have now, no, I haven't really been drawing any parallels to that book and Deltarune's plot.

Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter

Let's talk about a very silly movie starring Kung Fu Jesus Christ trying to stop a group of vampires from committing hate-crimes. That's right baby, it's Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter!

Things are grim in Ottowa, Canada. A string of vampiric murders have targeted the local lesbian population and severely impacted church memberships to boot. The church decides to pull out their secret weapon...

This alone should be enough to sell you on the movie, but let me just throw in that besides vampires and Jesus it also contains (bad) kung fu and musical elements.

I should however also do my usual content warning for the movie: While it doesn't contain any major sexual assault, homophobic or racist scenes, it does still come from the tradition of Troma pictures, so there is a recurring gag with a female character getting groped, a villainous character french-kissing a corpse, some general distasteful bits and just... So much blasphemy (obviously).

But back to the story:

Jesus gets several make-overs throughout the story, first of which includes a haircut, a couple of earrings and a song-and dance routine in which he proves his might by healing the sick in front of a public crowd.

There's sadly not a lot of diagetic singing and dancing, but the soundtrack does slap, and the movie more than makes up for it with memorable scenes, such as when Jesus has just been out shopping for wood for stakes, but gets accosted by a new enemy:

After which we are treated to a scene of some 30+ atheist combatants leaving a single (clown?) car, followed by a very dumb fight scene.

Jesus finds out that the reason that vampires can travel freely in the sunlight is that a mad scientist has been grafting the skin of the dead lesbians they've been kidnapping unto them, thereby protecting them from the deadly rays of the sun. For any vampires reading this, there's a thought, eh? Although maybe steer clear of the hate crimes.

However, Jesus on his own is no match for the entire vampire population and he gets completely trounced, at which point the movie treats us to a wonderful little take on the parable of the good Samaritan:

That's right, first a bishop walks past Jesus without helping him, then a cop (ACAB) and finally he gets help from a transvestite (according to the credits), who nurses him back to health. Support your trans communities as they would support you. <3

And that is generally the message of the movie. I don't want to spoil anything else. The movie is very worth watching, it's genuinely funny while also being very supportive of queer people. It's currently less than €3 on German Amazon, so go grab yourself a copy and experience this wonderful low-budget masterpiece for yourself.

"Stop thinking so loud."

Lilith's voice, echoing only in her mind in the predawn hours, makes Camila reach over and slap the other woman ineffectually. "Stop listening to my thoughts, weirdo."

The faintest ghost of a smile as Lilith catches Camila's hand, presses a kiss into the soft part of her wrist. "I'm not listening, it's just that you get buzzy when you're nervous."

"Nervous? I'm not nervous!" Camila says, ignoring anxiety that's been building in her gut all morning.

A scoff, a soft bite to the inside of her wrist. "Of course, and I'm Joan of Arc. I can't hear your thoughts but you sound like a beehive."

Camila rolls over, looking at Lilith for the first time in the pre dawn light. Lilith lays back relaxed, one hand propping herself up, the other lazily manipulating Camila's hand into position to receive a series of soft kisses. "I feel like you're being too calm about this."

Lilith stalls, mouth hovering over an old scar, one Camila gave herself when she was learning to shoot a crossbow. "Why should I not be calm?" A glint of mischief alights in her eyes. "You pretty much fucked all other emotions out of me."

Camila takes her hand out of Lilith's grip to slap at her chest again. Lilith lets her chew on her thoughts a while longer. Camila's eyes skate around the room, her cell, technically.

She'd thought the term was funny, at first, because Cat's Cradle was the first time she ever felt truly free.

But.

In light of what she and Lilith have done, it sort of feels like the walls are closing in on her. She's been disowned by everyone she's ever loved, she doesn't know if she could take it if Mother Superion—

A sharp bite to her wrist brings her back to the bed, where she lays half on top of another woman, fully naked, after having some truly mind blowing sex. In a church. Where she is a nun.

It doesn't help the anxiety, actually.

She gets why Lilith called her a beehive.

A hand comes up, taps on The Cross and brings her fully back to the present.

"Breathe with me." Lilith's voice comes not through her ears, but through that buried connection between them. Her hand falls to Lilith's sternum, which rises and falls with even breaths.

"Lily I—"

"Don't worry about it right now," Lilith purrs, "just let me take care of you."

Lilith's hands skate their way carefully down Camila's body and Camila reacts by burying her head into Lilith's neck. In a way it's only fair, if Lilith plays her like a fiddle using her neck then she can definitely do it in return.

She melts like this, lured back down to something resembling calm by the other woman.

Lilith's long fingers splay out over her stomach. "Don't toy with me Lilith."

"I would never." Lilith's almost affronted voice rumbles at the back of her neck. "I would never toy with you."

Those damned long fingers stay stationary as Lilith continues. "I was simply going to say that you look gorgeous like this, hovering over me."

Camila rolls her eyes. "Charmer." She responds out loud, too keyed up to properly think about how the fuck Lilith is doing this right now.

Lilith's eyes gleam. "I want to test something."

"oh you're a scientist now?"

A truly spectacular roll of her eyes. "I want you to sit on my face while I sweet talk you," she gestures vaguely between their heads, "through the bond or whatever we're calling it."

Camila arches an eyebrow. "And you want to see what you can do when your mouth is... otherwise occupied?"

A full blown grin now. "I want to see how hard I can make you come by talking to you like you want me too."

"Jesus Christ"

"I thought you didn't want to bring up that guy right now."

A fond eye roll. "Don't you have better things to be doing with your mouth right now?"

Onyeka family update #1

Hey guys, before we go on to gen 2 here’s a third person update on the Onyeka kids. We probably won’t be seeing much of these folks for a while because I want to focus on Isioma’s story for a bit.

Chukwuma and Breyonnah Onyeka are 57 and 54 respectively and have been married for 29 years. Out of their 10 children, 5 still live at home. Those 5 children are Lotanna (14), Ifeanyi (16), Jachike (19), Onyinye (16), and Sochima (13). Jachike has recently joined the military and is awaiting his post. The other 4 children are still being homeschooled by Bre.

Nnadi and Miguel Ventura are both 26, have been married for 8 years, and have 5 children: Gideon (7), Ephraim (5), Shoshanna (3), Bartholomew (2), and Abigail (6 months). They are very committed to the fundamentalist lifestyle and are raising their brood to do the same. They live in Oasis Springs, where Miguel works as a business manager.

Kelechi and Sandrine Onyeka are 24 and 27 years old. They have been married for 5 years and live in Brindleton Bay, where Kelechi pastors Calvary Baptist Church, and Sandrine is a preschool teacher. Despite a rocky start to their arranged marriage, they now have a good partnership. Sandrine still isn’t quite sure that she loves Kelechi but she’s getting there, they’re happy for now. They have 1 daughter, Faith, who is 4 years old. They’re now trying for baby #2.

Chidi is 23 years old and just moved to San Myshuno. He just landed a job as an junior attorney at a private law firm. Chidi’s ready to live his best life free of his parents. He’s also taking the time to figure out his sexuality and his beliefs. It’s not that he doesn’t believe in God, but he’s willing to learn of a God that’s actually loving, because that wasn’t the one he was raised with.

Adaeze is Chidi’s twin sister. Like Chidi, she’s a recent college grad and exploring the world. Unlike Chidi, she’s estranged from a good bit of her family, because it’s really shameful for women to have their own lives or something like that. She lives Britechester with her boyfriend Raj Sanyal (25), her cousin Diana, and Diana’s fiancé Alberto. Adaeze just began working as a scientist, while Raj works at a museum. They are looking for their own place, and don’t tell Adaeze, but Raj might pop the question soon…

Isioma and Anwar Kamal are 21 and 23 years old and live in Del Sol Valley. They currently are on their honeymoon in Mt. Komorebi. They are excited to start a family. Anwar is glad Isioma is leading him back to Christ and Isioma is glad she married someone who can help her have fun and see the good in the world.

Jesus is alive

"He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee" Luke 24:6

On Resurrection Sunday, we will reflect on this verse. This statement uttered to those visiting Jesus' tomb, where they encountered unexpected revelation of his resurrection.

Many of us are still searching for Jesus in the wrong places, and in a wrong way, and even some of Believers dont know how to testify of his Resurrection and the fact that our Savior is alive.

When Jesus was physically here on earth and he was present and walking among them but still the Jews were searching for him elsewhere. The Bible says in the book of John 5:39-40 NIV, "You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life." Though the Scriptures pointed out Jesus was Christ, they refused to believe him and are still waiting for him until today.

Now days one of the things that amazes me, and I can say is ridiculous, is that there are some scientists who have teamed up with geologists to search for evidence to prove if Jesus was a real person. They go around digging and excavating rocks to find evidence of Jesus. And some Christians think this is okay, but it is totally wrong. There is nothing Christian or spiritual about their research.

Let me tell you why: the evidence of Jesus' life and his presence is His church. We are the evidence that Jesus is real. You and I.

The bible has already spoken of him in a clear way, and its evidence is sufficient. But still, people think is not enough. There is another living evidence of Jesus. This evidence is his Church, me and you are the evidence that Jesus is real and he is Alive.

The evidence of Jesus is not some ancient remainings buried beneath a rock in Israel. Our king is alive; he is living in us. We should not look for His evidence but his presence because he is alive. He is in heaven, seated at the right hand of his father. And he is living in us.

Faith is what leads us to Christ. Some think if you study theology, then you will know Christ. You may end up knowing about Christ but not knowing him personally. To know Christ, you need faith, not reasoning. Many Bible scholars end up like Pharisees - they failed to believe because they were reasoning everything Christ told them; they wanted everything Jesus said to be logical.

On this Resurrection Sunday, I am encouraging you to believe in Christ wholeheartedly. Don't reason everything he's telling you. Just believe him. Remember what he is doing in your life is the evidence of his resurrection; your transformed life, the healing you got is the evidence Jesus is alive.

Prayer: Lord, you have said, "I am the Light of the world." You have sent me on this world to show them your light, and the world to know you are alive and you still save people. Help me to be a reflection of the resurrected Christ to the world.

She decided to travel from the Vatican to the US for the express purpose of collecting Jesus’ corpse all to repent for letting a bear maul her brother. Also she’s cool as fuck.

Dana Scully Propaganda

in a world of monsters and paranormal activity and alien conspiracies her faith is still important to her and I love her for it (well. that and many other reasons)

She’s a doctor but quit to become an FBI agent so she ends up just doing autopsies on people who died to ghosts or aliens. She is usually super factual and a huge skeptic, but she has repeated crises of faith and has to go to church to chill out. She feels guilty about everything constantly. Her family members remind her to be more catholic and then they end up dying and then she feels even worse. She gets abducted by aliens.

Most of her character arc revolves around struggling to square her faith with a) being a heavily skeptical scientist b) aliens being real (something she resisted very strongly on the grounds that she’s a skeptical scientist) c) being abducted and getting pregnant and nearly dying as a result of said aliens being real. Struggles with this so much that she’s in the confession booth like :grimace: especially because her investigative partner Mulder is a) an atheist b) believes in aliens just as strongly as she believes in Jesus

Refuses to believe in aliens because there’s absolutely no proof for it but then spends a whole ass episode trying to convince Fox “Aliens abducted my sister” Mulder that angels are real and can cause miracles. The sheer quantity of scientific qualifications she has only to turn around and say she wholeheartedly thinks biblical angels are 100% legit

Born in Ripley, Derbyshire, on September 26, 1887, Sir Barnes Neville Wallis CBE FRS RDI FRAeS, was an English scientist, engineer and inventor; best known perhaps, for inventing the ’Bouncing Bomb’ used by the Royal Air Force in ’Operation Chastise’ (the so-called ‘Dambusters Raid’; an attack by the British Royal Air Force on the dams of the Ruhr Valley during World War II).

An alumnus of Christ’s Hospital School, Wallis began experimenting with skipping marbles over water tanks in his garden as early as 1942; an idea suggesting the possibility of a bomb that could avoid torpedo nets by skipping over the surface of the water, then sink directly next to a battleship or dam wall.

A crucial innovation to the Bouncing Bomb was the addition of backspin (causing the bomb to trail behind the dropping aircraft; thereby decreasing the chance of the aircraft being damaged by the force of the explosion, increasing the range of the bomb, and also preventing it from moving away from the target wall as it sank).

Strictly, it’s said bouncing bombs ricochet, rather than bounce; the earliest known description of this effect and its potential in wartime being that written by Englishman, William Bourne, a Master Gunner in the reign of Elizabeth I.

Barnes Wallis passed in Leatherhead, Surrey, on October 30, 1979. He rests at St Lawrence’s Church, Effingham.

Lupin the Third Part 2: Halloween Special Thoughts

I don't know what's more insane:

A.) The fact that this episode starts with the discovery of an apparent incorruptible ancient saint clutching a statue of Our Lady, with the scientists excited for the "theological import" of said discovery

B.) She turns out to be a vampire

C.) She then claims to be the long-lost twin sister of Jesus Christ, abandoned by St. Joseph for being born with fangs and raised by bats and a she-wolf

D.) Despite the obvious blasphemy the episode kind of ends up feeling pro-Christian because they can't say the name of the Lord, lightning smites all the vampires and then Lupin returns the statue to a Catholic Church now hedging his bets that Jesus is real

E.) This wasn't the most controversial episode of this show to dub for an English language audience

F.) Fujiko dresses as an Elvis impersonator and Goemon has to cut her out of the suit AND THEY NEVER EXPLAIN WHY

I find others trying to convince you of their faith being superior & correct the most difficult people to not fucking clobber. What fucks me is when it isn't out of malice.

Some jerkoff yelling bible quotes outside my favorite coffee shop on my lunch to shame non Christians deserves his shit to get pushed in. But the different Christian girls I was friends with in school as a kid telling me they don't want me to go to hell for being Jewish were trying to be kind out of their love for me. The white Buddhist writing about how the best method to love & be intimate with others is through Buddhist practices is trying to help people with their relationships. My fucking coworker who lives & dies by his faith in astrology & horoscopes telling me I need to be more responsible & be more mindful of my interactions with loved ones is trying to be helpful.

I do not fucking understand how few people have manners when it comes to faith & respecting the faith of others'. Shits so fucking annoying.

The problem is that Evangelicalist or Charismatic Christians have a victim complex and have always been obsessed with the idea of playing the oppressed. Far from what is true, these individuals find themselves in the middle of a whirlpool and attempts to swim against the stream of water, it's ineffective, but they still push forward with the hopes of getting their message through. Fundemantalists Christians don't find themselves on the losing end, because they believe that the rejection of God is a testament to the numerous vices and sins that exist in the American society, which will culminate in the return of Christ. Heck, even Schafley, a highly notorious conservative woman, considered the ERA a blasphemous proposition and a sign that the day of reckoning was near.

The angry, arrogant and conceited pre-millenialist Christian you know who loves to picket at pride and etc, attempts to embrace a traditional idea of masculinity, regarding themselves as the soldiers of God, who seek to purify America. The idea of a Jesus who embraces everyone; a Jesus who is known for his compassion; a man who commands one to turn the other cheek, is nothing but a wimp to them, and thus try to paint him as this unforgivable warrior God, who is the embodiment of masculinity. John Wayne pushed forward this notion of masculine patriotism among White Evangelists to affirm that this country breeds and fosters warriors who stand against the ungodly Communists, Muslims, Feminists, Gays and Trans people.

The likes of Mark Driscoll, who is known for his aggressive preaching, embodied this idea of masculinity and machoism and tried to propogate it around Evangelical circles, much to his success and eventual downfall. Evangelicalists sought to revitalize the church and return it to its former spirit by embracing a more nationalist and masculine attitude. Boys were often fostered to play with toy guns, G.I Joe action figures, while girls often played with baby dolls, preparing them to become the good american housewife, which played a significant role in fostering them into their respective gender roles. Dobson, known as the founder of Focus on the family, which rose to prominence in the 80, would go as far as to encourage corporal punishment for children to make sure they grow in to their respective gender roles, although unorthodox, unethical and frequently criticized by psychologists, psychatrists and social scientists. Heck, boys were even encouraged to adopt vulgar language, while women were discouraged from it to avoid rebellious undertones. Gender roles were important, the idea of a man being a breadwinner and the wife being a homemaker was natural and an important essence to the American lifestyle. This concept of complementarianism was unique to White evangelicalists, but would eventually be embraced by White Catholics in juxtaposition to the egalitarian attitude held by other congregations. The rise of modern civil right's movements was seen as a plague, Evangelicalists postulated that God had already given each sex their respective roles in the house and to act upon their God-given role is to contribute to the social upbringing of a pure and chaste society. For people to act contrary was seen as an affront to God.

To summarize, the reason you see this form of aggression and tough American attitude is because Evangelicalist Christians are encouraged to behave this way. To counter the rise of leftists ideas, the fundamentalist Christians always sought to counter them by revitalizing the good ol-fashion masculinity as was seen in the past, the meek and compassionate depiction of Christ was not needed as they embraced a more patriotic Jesus who was pro-gun and supported free market capitalism. Christians pre-millenialist believe that they are oppressed and have always concerned themselves with the eschatological suppositions of a war between the ungodly and godly. They assert themselves as God's warriors, fighting against vice, heresy and false religions in this falsely established holy land.

julia (traitor, war criminal, on nickname basis with t*rrorists): daddy issues so severe i can't even joke about it ; her swagless social anxiety and mental illnesses have beguiled the hoes ; a backstory so unspeakably horrific that idiots think calling her out for her adult crimes is victim blaming her child self

ard*n (apocalyptic event, fridger of women, anti-christ): didn't even want to be the villain ; is nice in flashbacks before he got fucked over by the heavens so clearly he's still a nice guy ; has an accent ; conventionally attractive white man pass

homare (career criminal, terminally horny, no boundaries): fridged older sister ; he's funny so clearly he can't be all bad ; helps the hero after having committed unspeakable acts so clearly he's a nice man ; is attracted to our conventionally hot lead so he's an uguu hot boi now

danae (funder of evil, works with villains for own aims): daddy issues ; poor little rich girl backstory ; fc is a popular actress so clearly hot = morally correct ; she does a lot of good in-universe to which somehow makes her a good person rather than arbitrary ; she's working with villains to stop her asshole dad which is somehow girl power rather than making her villain adjacent
