DIY Paper Flower Bouquet
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Project by Jordan Ferney:
Today I’m so excited to share a special DIY I designed for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. If you’ve ever visited a child in the hospital, you know that bringing in gifts or decorations can be tricky. Many hospitals have restrictions on what is allowed  into the pediatric floor  – no plants, no flowers, no latex, no food or candy, no stuffed animals, no used toys. So, this DIY is a great solution! It’s perfectly safe and will brighten up a hospitalized child’s room. It breaks my heart that this year one million children will spend Christmas in the hospital. So I love that CMN Hospitals is encouraging everyone to donate $5 in honor of these kids. To give, just click here and follow the steps. All donations to CMN Hospitals stay local and each hospital can choose to spend the funds however they need them most. CMN Hospitals raise funds for 170 children’s hospitals in North America. Together, they provide $3.4 billion in charitable care every year.
Materials:
Crepe Paper
Floral Wire
Floral Tape
Scissors
Ribbon
For Flowers with Round Stamen: Step 1: Cut out 2 small pieces of crepe paper and a long piece of floral wire. Step 2: Crumble one of the crepe paper pieces into a ball. Fold the other piece of crepe paper over the ball and squeeze around the bottom of the ball. Secure by wrapping one end of the floral wire around the base.
For Flowers with a Fringe Stamen: Step 1: Cut out varying colors and sizes of fringe and a long piece of floral wire. Step 2: Fold the fringe on top of itself to create the base of the flower and secure by wrapping one end of the floral wire around the base.
Step 3: Cut petals and fringe out of crepe paper. Begin placing the petals or fringe around the ball base of the flower and continue wrapping with floral wire to secure into place. Finish when you are are satisfied with the look of the petals and/or fringe. If you want, you can also cut out crepe paper leaves and attach them when your flower is finished. Step 4: To create a stem, cut out another long piece of floral wire and wrap the middle around the base of the flower. Step 5: Wrap the base of the flower with floral tape so that no wires poke out.
Once you have about 15 flowers, arrange them into a bouquet (alternating colors and sizes) and then secure into place by wrapping floral tape around the wires. At this point, you can attach crepe paper leaves with floral wire around the bottom of the arrangement to fill it out. Bend the wires to the size you want, then wrap with ribbon (so nothing pokes out.) We added multiple layers of ribbon so that the base was thicker.

idk about you, but i've been dying laughing at the extra life stream this year.
as disappointing as RT has been, I still think Extra Life is one of the good things they've done and this year, they are raising money for the Los Angeles Children's Hospital. They're spreading the donations out to all the hospitals in the CMN network, where you can specifically donate to the local hospital of your choice.

what major does harmony study in college? did she have idea of what she was as a career path? would she choose something different if given the chance?
In her main verse, Harmony studies nursing. In the US, it would be a Bachelor in nursing (BSN) degree or a registered nurse to BSN degree program. She would do equivalent programs in verses where she is outside the United States.
After that, Harmony would continue to study to be a certified nurse midwife or CNM, which is about a master degree level in nursing. This would allow Harmony to oversee patients throughout their lives, no just for prenatal, births, and postnatal care. She would be able to oversee low-risk births for people who want to do it at home or in an environment with little medical intervention but can deliver high-risk births under the supervision of an obstetrician. It also gives her right to prescribe birth control for patients who request it, and help with menopause care and aging.
Harmony chose to be a CMN or nurse-midwife because birth was a normal thing for her. In the Black Hawk Reservation, it was a rural community far from the cities. After the Indian Health Service (IHS) clinic closed down, the closest hospital for the people was over an hour away. It is difficult to go there during the long winters when the harsh blizzards occur in Montana. Harmony was born at home since her mother was low-risk for complications. When Harmony was a child, she helped her mother and other female relatives when a birth happened in her family. It started as helping deliver water and herbs for adults to heat and deliver to the room where the birth is taking place. As she got older, Harmony would be more involved in helping with the process. This is because births are not only a medical condition but a ceremony. It is welcoming a new life into the world which needs careful preparation.
After the birth, the baby and their mother would go into the car with relatives to drive to the city for medical checkups. If things go wrong, her family has plans to take action to be sure everyone safely get medical attention.
Harmony wants to learn the skills of being a nurse midwife so she can help people have the best prenatal care and safe birth in respect to their culture and the resources available to them. Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege. It should be patient-centered and prioritize the safety and well-being of patients.
She also wants to introduce other forms of medicine like for the mind, heart, and spirit. She and her people respect modern medicine like many Indigenous people do. It's just they want traditional knowledge and ceremony to work with medicine.
Harmony is a healer at heart and wants to help people heal. But there are other choices that she may consider, and there are AUs with these other career choices.
In other verses, Harmony may be a primary care nurse or physician's assistant. Both positions are always needed. I also have verses with Harmony as a police officer. Though, Harmony may have interest in being a park ranger since she has a love for nature and wants to help protect it.

For years I’ve volunteered throughout my community by performing at convalescent homes, within food drives, my schools first ever Black Student Union, as a youth volunteer junior coach, toy giveaways, and hands on within my community before even knowing about the Miss America organization … all for the love of service. Turns out the Miss America organization is looking to provide young women LIKE ME and YOU with the means to better the world with scholarships and the platform to do so… [I was awarded with $3,600 + in scholarships with such title to help me pay for school and $250+ for winning Tony Moises top interview, The Style Award, and CMN Children Miracles Network Dream Maker Award for raising over $600 for the children’s miracle network hospital]
Although, this is my first time EVER competing within such an amazing organization… I’m eager to represent us all on stage as Miss Sacramento County and with God’s grace possibly your MISS CALIFORNIA! I took the train everyday throughout the competition with no experience in the “pageant” world but the means to change my community and speak my truth.
NOW, it’s time for action!! I will move forward representing our state capitol as Miss Sacramento County and everyone of you that has impacted my life. MISS CALIFORNIA HERE WE COME!

It's been a heck of a last part of the year... This December I released my debut studio album to the world, left my job to pursue my dream for awhile, and so far am experiencing a lot more success than i thought i would.... Then got a rough diagnosis after years of suffering for Christmas. I was told by a specialist that basically, I need a hysterectomy. Thankfully it is not cancer. It is basically that my "lady organs" ate themselves (the details are very unpleasant and are VERY painful so I won't go into detail)🙃🙃🙃 and they are also starting to interfere with how the rest of me is functioning. Along with knowing for sure I also have endo... its been a lot to handle. I now don't know what to do either because I'm supposed to have surgery and they wanna attempt to save what's left. But I was basically told I will never be a mother even if they did. It is hard news to hear (even tho i havent really desired to be one just yet). I thought maybe someday if somehow things got better and my bf and I were in a better place and changed our mind about not wanting kids, but now i have been told that there is no possible way. Now I know my answer and a solution to finally end my pain. The thing is, it is gonna take a long time because now the hospital that accepted my insurance is shutting down and I may have nowhere else to go that will cover me. It the meantime, every month, I suffer horrendously (sometimes to the point of hospitalization) and it has slowly been becoming so awful that I cannot even function as a normal person. But I know that I just need to give it a second and then see what other steps I can take to figure this whole mess out. The surgery may put me out for awhile, but I'm hoping it is the thing that finally ends my suffering permanently. (Continued in comments) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmns-m6OJKR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
