Whumpee awakens curled in the backseat in someone's arms.
They look down, their entire torso is drenched with blood.
They start to panic, but someone holds them tightly. "Shhh, shh sh, it's okay, go back to sleep. Close your eyes." Someone grabs a blanket and covers their chest with it.
"You're going to be fine, I got you. Go back to sleep... Please."
A hand brushes over their face and closes their eyes. Whumpee finds themselves doing what the voice tells them to.
Leader leaned his hands on the table, squinting at the map sprawled across it and blinked a few times as it blurred in and out of focus.
"Leader? You were saying..?" Teammate Two prompted.
"Right," he started again, ignoring how the room span as he lifted his hands from the table. "So if we plant charges on...on the..." his voice trailed off, his thoughts slipping through his mind like sand. He dug his nails into his palms, willing himself to concentrate.
"You alright, boss?" Teammate One asked, their brow creased as they stepped closer.
"Fine," he dismissed as the team exchanged confused and concerned glances.
Just wanting to get through the briefing, Leader took a slow, deliberate breath before continuing. "If we plant charges on the w...west generator, that should... should buy us- enough t-time to... to..." Leader stumbled through his words, his sluggish mind unable to navigate the fragmented thoughts as another wave of nausea rolled over him.
He vaguely registered a muffled shout from Medic.
"'m fine," he slurred, reaching out for something to stabilize himself as his body swayed dangerously. He hadn't even realized he was falling until his head slammed against the floor.
From a person who passes out almost daily from dehydration and POTS
Fainting can be dramatic (eyes rolling back, falling to the floor, etc), but it can also be subtle sometimes. Even standing up, your whumpee could just sway in place a bit, eyes going unfocused and dilated. Maybe those around them grow concerned as they realize whumpee is unresponsive, before moving to touch them, shake their shoulder, and watching with horror as whumpee tips over and slumps to the floor.
When your whumpee is coming to, there’s often a few seconds where they are aware of and can understand everything around them, but are unable to move or talk. Just laying there, maybe mumbling something quietly or waving a hand at most, body still coming back online.
Whumpee catching themself passing out, deliberately breathing slow and deep in an attempt to not faint, even as they slowly feel their thoughts leaving them. The darkness fuzzing in on the corners of their vision and masking their surroundings, and the last, frustrated thought of “well, shit” as they sink to the ground, breathing exercises having failed them.
Alternatively, there can also be a few seconds after (before??) coming to when your whumpee isn’t cognizant of what is happening, but it appears like they are. They may sit up, even respond to a basic question, and then blink awake, completely disoriented at already being upright and moving.
Everyone around them freaking out, disorienting whumpee even further as they wake up to the concerned voices and roaming hands and prodding and questions. Whumpee attempting to brush everyone off, appease everyone, to just get away as they maybe stagger to their feet or curl into a ball.
Thinking about whump in partner dances... imagine Whumpee and Caretaker like to dance together as a way to blow off steam or feel closer or maybe they're practicing for some performance and one day Whumpee shows up kinda sick or dehydrated and after they perform a difficult move Caretaker notices something's off and asks them what's wrong and they admit they feel faint and just as Caretaker is asking what's wrong Whumpee slips unconscious in Caretaker's arms
The rest of the team stopped and turned around to see Whumpee at the back, leaning on a tree for support. Crimson blood leaked between their fingers pressed to their stomach.
Whumpee looked up, laughing shakily. "Uh... guys? I think I'm a little iron deficient over here..."
And then they collapsed, falling to the ground in a heap of limbs.
Cw: major character death, gore mentions, knife and gun mentions, near death experience, fear, implications of future torture
Whumpee looked upon the carnage that was once their home with a pain in their heart that would go on to live there forever. Whumper ruined everything that they loved. They looked upon the decimated bodies of their Caretakers and adopted adult Whumpee siblings as Whumper nonchalantly cleaned the blood off of their custom knives with an impatience.
“Hurry up, Whumpee, I’m a busy person and I have places to be. Pack your things and get in the car.”
Tearfully, Whumpee packed some clothes, toiletries, and their beloved teddy into the old duffel that was tossed at them in the aftermath of what Whumpee considered to be their own personal apocalypse.
This was it. They would never see any of these people again. How could this have happened? Whumpee wondered as they tried to avoid the eye contact of the dead in the living room. The irony was lost on Whumpee but not Whumper as they smirked at their handiwork.
“Really, Whumpee, this could have all been avoided if you didn’t try to leave me. I told you what would happen, didn’t I? Get in the car now, I have friends waiting at home for us.” Whumper finished with their sinister intentions practically dripping from each word.
Wordlessly, Whumpee walked to the car with the duffel of their shattered safety. They tried to make a break for it but Whumper saw the look in Whumpee’s eyes and clapped their broad hand around the opposite shoulder of their treasure to ensure it’s security. They leaned down and whispered harshly “I wouldn’t if I were you. You’ve already got a hefty punishment waiting, and we wouldn’t want to tempt fate… would we?”
Whumpee met the eyes of their captor. Their dark eyes peered back into their tearful ones as they processed what would soon occur. They nodded slowly. Whumper smiled. It sent chills down Whumpee’s spine.
“Now.” Whumper took their hand off of Whumpee’s shoulder. “Get in the car, my dearest. Put your bag in the back.”
Whumpee started towards the back of the car to where Whumper held the door open for their bag when they swung it, clocking Whumper in the temple. Catching Whumper by complete surprise, they went down with a thud. What Whumper didn’t know was that while they were too busy cleaning their fancy knives, Whumpee packed some favorite books to keep themself busy, if Whumper didn’t destroy those in front of Whumpee as well.
Whumpee tore away from the front yard and glancing back, they saw one last look of their haven along with Whumper, slumped in the driveway starting to pull themselves up.
They looked back in front of themselves only to run face first into a tree. Of course. Dazed, they dragged themselves up and staggered into the woods. There was a road up ahead, if they could find it. Panting, they ducked behind another tree when they heard a roar of anger from their tormentor not too far away. They reached up to feel for the knot that was no doubt forming by this point and felt the warmth of blood. Great.
It was still midday so Whumpee had plenty of daylight left, but what if they didn’t find the road by night? They would be left to their own devices unless they could find their way back to the house in the dark and concussed. Their panting stopped when they heard a snap next to them. They turned slowly to see those dark eyes once more.
“Hello, dearest.” One of the knives plunged into Whumpee’s stomach. Whumpee slid down the tree onto the soft leaves that they thought would serve as their final resting place. Whumpee heard what sounded like a gunshot as their eyes slid shut. They felt numb as Neighbor pawed at them.
“Whumpee? Whumpee? Buddy, can you hear me? Oh my gods.”
Sometime later:
Warmth. Softness. Bright lights. Ugh. Someone turn those lights off.
Voices starting off as incoherent muffled became clear.
“Whumpee? Are you awake, Bud? NURSE!”
After much poking and prodding and discomfort and then more pain meds, Whumpee laid in the dimmed room with Neighbor sitting close by.
After some time of quiet, Neighbor cleared their throat uncomfortably. “So uh. You don’t have anywhere to go now. I know this. I wanted to um. Offer my house as a fellow safe place for you. I would understand if the proximity is too much to handle but I figure, hey. I can always move. Right? W-would that be ok-?”
Whumpee reached over and patted New Caretaker’s hand with considerable respect and consolation in their eyes as this was a big move for someone whom they always knew as a loner. “Kind, but alone.” Original Caretaker said of them.
Interrupting Whumpee’s thoughts, New Caretaker cleared their throat and rummaged through their dirty backpack. “I uh. Brought you something. I probably shouldn’t have taken this but the stupid coppers missed this when they took everything else.”
They pulled Whumpee’s most beloved teddy out. Whumpee’s eyes lit up for the first time in days. They looked quizzically at New Caretaker.
“Your bag broke open somehow. Not sure what you did but you sure uh. Did it. Get some rest kiddo. You’ve earned it.”
Whumpee closed their eyes. This was the start of a new beginning. Holding their teddy close to their aching heart, they drifted off.
small appreciation post for collapsing while still conscious
ok as much as i love a good faint im also a huge sucker for when a character collapses but is still conscious, maybe just dizzy or weak
stumbling or tripping on something and falling to their knees, too weak to stand up again
weak from fever or low blood sugar and failing to get out of a chair, lying on their back or side while the dizziness subsides (i actually had a fic planned for this at one point)
slumping into a chair because they cant stand anymore
reaching out to a table or wall for support and sliding to the floor (!!!)
sitting on the floor already but they slump to the side out of exhaustion
that thing where they throw their arm across their eyes out of exhaustion or dizziness (honestly one of my favorites)
there are probably a lot more im missing rn so feel free to add on!!
Every time whumpee woke up, they were somewhere else.
Usually with a new whumper, who would torture them right back unconscious. Then they would wake up somewhere new, with someone new; who had a new tormenting strategy.
One day they awoke in a bed. The first thing they heard was music and rain tacking on the window.
-The... window?
They hadn't seen a window since they had been taken. They opened their eyes to flowers lining a table at their feet. Someone was asleep at their bedside with their face buried in whumpees side.
It was caretaker, deep in slumber while still managing a quite good grip on whumpees hand.
I had a very specific whump idea in my head and I was wondering if you ever saw it. Character A is carrying an unconscious Character B and is about to put them down. Character A (or others on hand) cradles Character B's head as they're lowered so it doesn't hit the surface they're being laid on too hard.
Oh my god nonny that trope is SO GOOD!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH!! It should be used more often!! It's so soft and caring and I die every single time. I definitely have some examples of it.
My immediate thought is this scene in Merlin 2x06 after Arthur takes the potion to slow his heartbeat and breathing so it seems like he's dead. Like, I read this description you wrote and my brain conjured this moment.
Other good moments:
Hawaii Five-0 10x22 Steve cradling Danny's head as he lowers him into his lap.
Graceland 3x08 The whole team has a hand on Mike but Paige puts her hands behind his head as they lower him into the ice bath and i love it.
The A-Team 5x14 Frankie and Murdock protecting his head as they carefully lower Face down to the ground after being shot.
Stargate SG-1 4x18
The Greatest Showman when PT lowers an unconscious Phillip to the ground after rescuing him from the fire and WD cradles his head
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Avengers Endgame Nebula cradling the back of Tony's head as she lays him on the chair
One Piece Live Action 1x06
Supernatural 14x14 When Sam rolls Dean over he cradles the back of his head.
Give me Caretaker bridal carrying a weak Whumpee who is desperately trying to stay conscious…Whumpees arms are around Caretakers neck and their head is bobbing up and down against Caretakers chest.
And then suddenly, all at once, Caretaker notices Whumpee somehow feels heavier. Caretaker looks down at Whumpee just as Whumpee’s arms fall limp and their head flops backwards. And Caretaker has to drop to the ground both out of shock and panic as well as to check that their precious cargo is still breathing and to recollect Whumpees deadweight limbs to their chest before they stand back up
Love when whumpee turns up completely out of the blue. Nobody knew they had been taken/attacked/in an accident/etc., as far as they knew whumpee was fine.
Whumpee just walks into an otherwise perfectly normal situation with the living shit beat out of them, swaying dangerously, eyes unfocused.
Everyone present is shocked. Someone jumps up to catch whumpee before they fall, helping them into a chair or easing them to the ground.
“Oh my god, Whumpee, what happened?!” | “Who did this to you?” | “How did you even get here?” | “Shit, you’re hurt.” | “Here, sit down before you fall down.”
