hi my name is august and for the past week or so i have become so consumed by thoughts of avatar the last airbender that it is actually ruining my life and relationships.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah so unfortunately i can only be completely insane about this so i have to stop before it consumes me or at least manage the fixation i have for this early 20s zutara au
+ mai bc its really a shame that they didn't resolve her story outside of her relationship to zuko. so i think she starts fight club. which gradually turns into a gladiatorial ring
Tumblr media Tumblr media
edit: im typing up everything that i wrote in the drawing bc it just occured to me that not only is my handwriting a mess, but it's also cursive
Image 1
katara: How do you live in this hot ass country.
zuko: What about that literal glacier you live on, hm? Do you see me complaining?
Image 2
Zuko: my plan right now is to soft launch democracy for the Fire Nation. like, i don't think we can do that now because we're so weak, but 10-20 years down the line?
Image 3
Zuko: Honestly, my plan right now is to rule for a couple generations and fix everything that my father and my grandfather did , and then establish a democracy.
Katara: why not a democracy now?
Zuko: because the people of the Fire Nation don't know the truth about their own history. they've been fed propaganda for a hundred years. they need to be able to make informed decisions before i can do that.
Katara: and after that?
Zuko: after that im fucking off to the earth kingdom to take over my uncle's tea house and you will literally never hear from me again
Image 4
from left to right "katara" "need to redo the face" "this is chief katara to me. this is her at around 19/20 to me" "Anime katara. this anime shit is easy" "fire nation katara. putting her at about 14 y/o" "this is a screencap redraw"
Image 5
me: hello greenpeace
katara: after my mother died i had a lot of unchecked rage for the world, so my dad signed me up for tai chi classes to, like, calm me down but i ended up still angry but also really good at tai chi
katara: i feel like im doing well all things considered
me: katara is so special to me. she is a fully realized creation to me. so casual. so passionate about the world. one thing about her is that she is an activist. she has a strong sense of justice. fuck. the train jumped lol
image 6
mai: zuko, im starting a gladitorial ring and i don't know the legality of it so if you could just change the laws as i go that'd be great
zuko: yeah sure that sounds great
zuko, but smaller: wait what.
image 7
mai: REF, ARE YOU BLIND?! WHAT KIND OF CALL IS THAT!
background guy: woah holy shit
captioned: "Mai starts a gladiatorial fight club

[image ID: two images of Razor from the game Genshin Impact.
the first image is a screencap of Razor's in-game model from the back. he's wearing a dull grey/brown leather coat with a bunch of red/brown leather belts hanging down the length of it. his hood is up, but his long, messy grey hair is streaming out from a slit in the back of the hood. this hair is split down the middle, streaming to either side of his spine to show the Electro Vision centered on the lower back of the coat. the sleeves of the coat are torn off, showing his bare pale arms, and orange leather gloves. he's wearing poofy green pants, and black/grey leather boots.
the second image is a cartoony drawing of Razor from the back, standing more hunched and looking slightly over his shoulder. his hair has been cut short and no longer sticks out from the back of the hood. the extraneous leather belts have been removed from the coat, with more visible, geometric patterning in its place. a rope hangs across the lower back of the coat, below the Vision. a few small, dead animals (a rabbit, a couple ferrets) hang from this rope, with text reading, "small game gives the vague impression of a wolf tail". Razor's boots have been removed, leaving bare feet and lower legs messily wrapped in white wrappings, and covered in dirt. nearby text reads, " you cannot convince me they wrestled this boy into boots".
end ID]
back again with another redraw instead of a screencap edit! though I did honestly attempt the edit before I gave up (Razor's hair covers up too much, it woulda been annoying to redraw it all..)
also, it's just the back view b/c I don't have much problem with the front of his design. and since Razor is one of my faves and mains, I'm intimately familiar with the back of his design, considering how often I have to stare at it..
more design notes under the cut~
more than anything else, I just hate Razor's hair. usually I'm all for male characters with long hair, but Hoyo just fucked up Razor's so bad. which is insane cus' a wolf tail shape feels so obvious, for a kid literally raised by wolves. I would've even forgiven the stupid hood slit for that-- sure, Hoyo could've just put the hood down for Razor's hair, but I like the hood up, so whatever. but Hoyo just had to split the hair in half, ruining the potential tail shape. and it's clear that they split the hair so that the Vision on the coat is visible, but the obvious solution there should be to just... put the Vision somewhere fucking else. like, the Vision could have been literally anywhere else, good god
either way, I just decided to cut off the hair, cus' I had a better idea for a "faux tail" anyways. I know dead animals are prolly too morbid for Genshin designs, but it definitely fits my feral vision of Razor <3
finally, evidence that I did genuinely attempt the model edit, before I decided, "oh, fuck this"
Tumblr media
[image ID: the same back-view screencap of Razor's in-game model from earlier, but centered on his torso region. much of his grey hair has been manually blocked out using the purple background color. the parts of his back/arms that the hair covered have been roughly drawn back in as a messy sketch. end ID]

Okay, I saw your screencap redraw, and as someone else who's *obsessed* with Carmen's parents, I had to take you up on that offer. So, consider this ask license to infodump your thoughts on them! :)
AGH ok so-
Carmen's parents have a LOT of potential narrative-wise, and I really hope one day we'll see more of them in canon. (Maybe comics like the showrunner talked about before?)
Like how in the world did they meet??? Cause idk i feel like Carlotta disappeared way too easily to have just been a civilian. I think she was a thief too, not VILE, she only steals when she needs to, for one reason or another.
this is getting long oops- under the cut!
I think they happened to be going after the same thing, at the same time, and hoo boy do they not get along lol. Turns out Carlotta (telling Dexter her name is Vera Cruz. He does not believe her) had agreed to steal the whatever-it-is in exchange for an under-the-radar trip somewhere else.
They make a deal: Dexter gets her there, and he gets to keep the prize. Yay, roadtrip!
Cue rivals-to-friends-to-lovers speedrun lmao
Some time passes after that (during which they continue to see each other) and many months later they discover oops they made a Carmen
Dexter begins making his much longer trips away from VILE (wanting to support his partner with their unborn kid as much as he can) and starts the process of leaving. When Carmen is born, his trips away get longer and VILE finally catches wind of what's happening, and you know the rest.
AHH ok headcanons about each:
Dexter
definitely shares a lot of personality traits with Carmen. Even just from what we saw during Shadowsan's flashback, they are so so similar :( The two combined chaos energies probably would've driven Carlotta up a wall lmao
woulda been a fantastic girl dad. this man would have sat thru tea parties and played barbies with little Carmen and LOVED IT
dad jokes. that is all.
probably also a very high energy/troublemaking kid, like Carmen
Seriously I picture him and Carmen being super close if he'd survived.
idk i think it'd be funny that this master thief that is 1/5th of the leadership of a massive and ancient crime organization is an absolute dorky dad lmao
bi
was gonna ask Carlotta to marry him after he escaped. but. well.. yk.
Was gonna pick Shadowsan to take his place on the faculty anyway
knows guitar, and probably would've taught carmen how to as well.
is it a universal dad thing to enjoy Jimmy Buffet music or is that just my dad??? Idk either way he vibes. Carlotta has a video of him softly strumming a guitar with baby Carmen in his lap and singing "Little Miss Magic" to her ;-;
also enjoys AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Guns n Roses, all that kinda stuff. Probably projecting my own dad a bit but oh well
As much as he'd hate he couldn't be there for Carmen when she was growing up, I think he'd be glad she at least had Shadowsan looking out for her :)
He would be so proud of everything Carmen has done and accomplished ;-;
Carlotta
its probably been said before, but Carlotta definitely started up the orphanage in Buenos Aires hoping Carmen would end up in it at some point.
Carmen inherited thief skills from both parents idc. Carlotta definitely gave Dexter a run for his money lol
looks a lot like carmen, but with green eyes instead of gray, and more brown hair than Carmen's red/auburn.
also the parent carmen got her freckles from (BC Carmen had em when she was little, and she spent a lot of time out in the sun!! I will die on the Carmen having faint freckles hill dangit!)
also bi. idk these two give bi4bi vibes.
more likely to get into a fistfight out of the two of them ("Carlotta, no!" "Carlotta YES" *cut to Dexter desperately trying to hold her back* "CARLOTTA PLEASE WE'RE TRYING NOT TO GET CAUGHT")
Upon reuniting with and getting to know Carmen, she's very much reminded of Dexter. She'd be all too happy to tell her stories of Dexter.
definitely also has a bit of a mischief streak too.
absolutely did NOT put up with Dexter's nonsense at first lol
was initially terrified of what Dexter would think when she told him they were gonna be parents, but was quickly reassured when the next time Dexter came back from VILE he had armloads of baby stuff from around the world.
Probably has a big extended family but after Dexter's death and Carmen disappears, she gets distant with them. After reuniting with Carmen though, accidentally runs into a family member with her and they're like "wait is that her?? She's alive??" and just like that Carmen has managed to acquire ANOTHER family lol.
Absolutely thrilled to learn Carmen wasn't alone all those years and immediately just adopts Zack, Ivy, and Player lol
Probably a little hesitant about Shadowsan at first, given that he was supposed to assassinate Dexter and did actually take her daughter to VILE, but eventually they're chill and he tells her stories of Black Sheep's antics. Meanwhile Carmen is in the background begging him not to lol.
I think once she got over her distrust of Shadowsan and got to know him, and sees how close he and Carmen are, she'd be glad that he was there for Carmen when Dexter couldn't be.
ARGHSH I have plans for them in many AUs lol. I'll get around to actually enacting em someday XD

dangranonpa sucks anyway. i'm happy we as a society are moving past the need for it /lh
i mean idv's definitely got its own issues too but TBH i feel like my mental health has been doing a lot better since i started distancing myself from danganronpa. ive never talked abt it but the era of art i made like that one mondo anime screencap redraw, was probably when my art popularity peaked for dr, but was probably the worst i've done in terms of mentally in my entire life lol. on top of me being super into it for 2+ years i was going to move onto something else eventually considering the characters i like...barely get anything in terms of content compared to characters like nagito or hajime lol
at least with idv theres things to look forward to and skins to grind for (bc fuck giving this gacha game money) and i actually have fun w the gameplay when my ping isnt 200 👍

Feeling very nostalgic lately and to practice drawing with ink I thought I’d do my teen self proud by drawing my favourite character at the time: APH England/Britain, aka Arthur Kirkland!
(Drawn from this screencap which I love!)
Tumblr media
It’s very humbling to me to know that I’d be SHOOK in AWE and DISBELIEF if I saw this back in the day! (still love his punk outfit though!) :’D
Like my art and hard work? Please consider reblogging so that other people can enjoy it too! <3

@yamisnuffles did some screencap redraws a long time ago, and I was powerless to do anything except write this fusion.  Life had, unfortunately, gotten in the way for quite a while.  But now I’m back to it!  And the first order of business was extensive edits and tense changes to the original chapters!  The first one is up today, the second will be up on Thursday, and chapter 3 will be up next Thursday! <3
This is Raiders of the Lost Ark - but with Aziraphale and Crowley.  What happens when an angel and a demon try to thwart the Nazis and occult-obsessed archaeologist Rene Belloq by beating them to the Ark of the Covenant?  This, apparently xD
Shout outs to @narumikaiko for amazing beta work and @luritto for being my constant cheerleader in this <3 Also to everyone in all of the GPH discords I love you all so much <3

Oxford University; 1936.
The clutter around Aziraphale’s office is second only to the clutter in his bookshop.  Despite this, everything has its proper place.  After almost six millennia, the angel has truly nailed down the concept of “organized chaos”.
He still isn’t sure why he decided to take up a position as a History Professor at Oxford.  It has proven to be more of a bother than anything else at this point.
Heaven certainly hadn’t charged him with it; they rarely charge him with anything these days.  The world had become quite volatile in this century and souls were streaming in one way or another without any of his help.
Truth be told, he’d been quite bored.  Old bookshops and dead authors were the only company for a lonely angel.
He’d considered it a stroke of luck when one of his regular customers was appointed vice-chancellor and offered him a job; he hadn’t really had a reason to refuse.
Aziraphale finds passing knowledge on to the next generation rewarding.  His knowledge of antiquities and religious artifacts in particular is extremely appreciated at the school and among his academic peers.
Even so, any time Sir George Hill comes creeping around to his office, he begins to suspect it’s all a very bad joke.  The infamous Director and Principal Librarian of the British Museum has never once visited his office with good news.
“Dr. Fell, surely you know how valuable your work has been to the Museum,” the director says while idly shuffling through the papers and tomes that litter Aziraphale’s desk, “You’ve been completely indispensable to us these past years.”
“Yes, I’m sure,” Aziraphale huffs as he follows behind the man and puts papers back in their proper (if disorganized) place, “And I’m also sure I want nothing to do with whatever it is you want for the museum this time. Those artifacts belong to the cultures that created them!  I’ll stake my entire reputation on that.”
“And yet they’re all cultures of the Empire,” Hill says with a laugh, picking up an ancient-looking scroll and turning it over in his hands.  “It’s not theft if it’s just relocation.”
Hill grins at him in that particularly slimy way of his.  It makes Aziraphale sick to his stomach, these outdated Victorian modes of thinking.  Everything belongs to the person with the most money and the most guns.  Some things are too much, even for heavenly intervention.
After the last instance in Peru (which culminated in being chased by a boulder, nearly crushed by a stone door, and nearly being skewered with arrows) he’d decided he was finished helping the museum in their fools’ errands.
“Or call it borrowing, if it makes you feel better,” Hill adds, sensing Aziraphale’s disdain. “Besides, it’s not me who wants your help this time.”
“Oh, it had better not be that blowhard Carter, I’ve had enough of him to last a lifetime.” Aziraphale says as he practically rips the scroll from Hill’s hands, “And please do stop touching everything, I have it all in perfect order!”
Hill shrugs, “It’s SIS, Dr. Fell.  I’m afraid you can’t wiggle your way out of this one, old boy.”
“SIS?  British military intelligence?” Aziraphale scoffs, “You must be joking, what on earth do they need with a history professor?”
“They didn’t tell me, only wanted me to put them in touch with you, hence my presence in your office now.” Hill looks around with mild revulsion at the chaos of Aziraphale’s office, “Tell me, does old Lindsay really have no issues with the mess here?”
“The Vice-Chancellor allows me whatever I need to get my job done,” Aziraphale says proudly. “As to the state of my office, I’ll have you know it’s perfectly organized in a way I see fit.”
“Yes, quite obviously,” Hill says, surveying the room with a judgemental gaze.
“Well if it’s British Intelligence I doubt they’ll let me be,” the angel sighs, resigning himself to his fate, “When am I to meet them?”
“They made us a lunch appointment for tomorrow afternoon, I understand it’s at the Ritz of all places.” He turns to leave before adding, “One o’clock- don’t be late, Dr. Fell!”
Aziraphale steadies  himself against the desk as the door closes.
The Ritz.  How pretentious could they be?

Military Men -- A Rewatch of JG Ep 1
Originally for this Joker Game rewatch, I was going to just redraw scenes I liked because I thought I didn’t have anything to add meta-wise or analytical-wise. But as I was reading JGfiles’ rewatch (which is super interesting! Do read it if you have the chance), I remembered the one thing that always stood out to me -- and it’s not necessarily confined to this episode -- is the dynamic between Sakuma and Odagiri. I don’t think it’s quite strong enough to call “parallelism,” but I think there’s something intriguing about having Sakuma, a soldier overseeing the spies, within the same space as Odagiri, a former soldier turned spy.
A bit of a disclaimer here but I’m not too well versed in regards to the historical context of the setting which may lead to shortcomings in my analysis. Anyways, without further ado, here I go! (•̀ᴗ•́)و
Right from the beginning, we know that Sakuma isn’t like the spies at all. Unlike them, he’s a trained soldier -- taught to follow Imperial ideologies with unwavering belief. As portrayed through his dynamic with Miyoshi, his beliefs clash with the spies’ and lead to the predicament Sakuma finds himself in later in the episode. One would think that these men have no common ground with Sakuma, that there’s no understanding between him and them. But as learned from the character biographies, Odagiri was once part of the military. Already, this sets Odagiri apart from the other spies and draws a similarity to Sakuma.
If the spies are considered anomalies of society, Odagiri can be considered an anomaly of an anomaly. While he’s an independent thinker honed by his spy training, he isn’t quite inhuman as the other spies are (as shown in episode 12). I’m probably treading on headcanon territory here, but I think that he’s a bit more sympathetic to Sakuma due to this.
Let’s start with the first (and only) scene Sakuma and Odagiri interact, which is the Joker Game -- or the poker game as Sakuma is initially led to believe.
I love imagining everyone in D-Agency and Sakuma as one big happy family as much as everyone else does, but I’m sure the reality is that they toyed with Sakuma to amuse themselves (perhaps saying that they bullied him is a better way to phrase it) and the Joker Game was one way they did it. Even Odagiri is in on it, though I think he may feel a bit bad about it.
Because, after all, it’s Odagiri who tells Sakuma that his loss wasn’t due to the way he played, but the way he and the others worked against him.
I believe it was never the spies’ intention to let Sakuma know about the Joker Game. Maybe they wanted him to figure it out himself, maybe they just wanted to be dicks towards him, maybe some kind of mix of the two. Regardless of the reasoning, I think Odagiri telling Sakuma about the Joker Game was something he did out of his own volition and was never part of the plan. Sakuma was about to leave and it felt like a last minute choice to tell him. And maybe it’s just the way the shot is angled combined with Odagiri’s typically stoic expression, but he almost (just almost) looks concerned.
Tumblr media
And to me, it seemed that the other spies were... annoyed about having to explain things to Sakuma and don’t even take him that seriously, treating him like he’s some sort of dense child.
Tumblr media
(miyoshi’s face screams “oh my god this dumbass” while hatano is judging sakuma lololol)
Tumblr media
(kaminaga and amari: lmao ok bye)
So back to the point: what did Odagiri have to gain from telling Sakuma about the Joker Game besides advancing the plot? Nothing really. Had he not done that, the status quo would’ve remained and Sakuma would’ve gone back to bed in ignorance. But perhaps he wanted an easier conscience and maybe in a roundabout way, he wanted Sakuma to learn a lesson he needed.
As an aside, something I find interesting is that when Yuuki is talking about how the spies will live in solitude doing their jobs, we’re given shots of all the spies. Odagiri is the only one by himself, which I suppose can symbolize him not being like the others. Not only that, but the way that he’s seated is different.
Tumblr media
Odagiri is facing towards the spies, away from Yuuki as Sakuma was just a few moments ago from this particular shot. In fact, in this shot, he’s the only one facing completely towards the audience (Amari is kinda too but like he can still easily look at Yuuki and Sakuma) and I wish I had some deep analysis to give you guys about this, but all I can come up with is “yeah, he’s different” haha yeah orz. Or maybe none of these don’t mean anything at all lol they were just something that caught my attention.
Anyhow, from thereon, Odagiri’s interactions with Sakuma are more indirect, if not nonexistent (which is a shame, but I digress).
The next time Sakuma and Odagiri are together is during the search of John Gordon’s house. While there’s no interaction between them, we see that Odagiri is standing directly behind Sakuma. It might not mean much overall, but this just really strikes me. They could’ve chosen literally anyone else to be behind Sakuma and they went with Odagiri. I’m not quite sure how to put my thoughts about this except that I think it’s rather poetic how the former soldier is standing behind the military man (literally and possibly figuratively).
Tumblr media
(Presenting my super crappy editing skills haha anyways)
The next interaction isn’t much of an interaction, but more of how Odagiri reacts to Sakuma as opposed to the other spies. As Sakuma faces the prospect of actually committing harakiri, we get a very quick pan of all the spies sans Miyoshi. The fact that this shot happens so quickly gives us the impression that every single one of the spies is smirking at Sakuma, mocking him and his beliefs that lead him up to this point, which is probably how Sakuma himself feels no doubt.
However, if one looks closer, Odagiri has a different reaction than the others.
Tumblr media
It’s rather difficult to see this on tumblr so here’s a link to the bigger picture. Since we’re focusing on Odagiri, I’ll just share the closeup on him.

I won’t say that he definitely isn’t smirking because I think it can be argued that he is in his own way given his stoic nature. But the point is that the other spies have a pronounced smirk, whereas Odagiri’s lips are closer to a flat line like he’s not as amused at this spectacle as the others are. Even Fukumoto, who is also portrayed as serious, has a more noticeable smirk than Odagiri.
Just to further illustrate my point because the more I look at this screencap the more I feel like I’m deluding myself into seeing a smirk, I placed a straight line across each of the spies’ mouths from corner to corner. Odagiri’s lips resemble -- if not perfectly fit -- the line while the other spies have a noticeable curve.

Here’s a link to the bigger picture and here’s a closeup of Odagiri:

this is probably the most extra thing i’ve ever done i apologize
Perhaps this doesn’t mean much as well, but I think it’s Odagiri’s sympathy towards Sakuma showing up once more. Due to the circumstances of the situation, he can’t do anything to stop Sakuma without raising suspicions (not only from Gordon, but his fellow spies as well). All that he can do now is watch as Sakuma tries to find a way out of this situation or die trying. Unlike the others, he doesn’t seem too interested in seeing the latter play out.
And that... is about it -- for both episodes 1 and 2. I don’t think we ever see Odagiri and Sakuma interact ever again after this (which is unfortunate, but alas).
Admittedly, this is a one-sided dynamic given the little interaction that they have and when they do it's Odagiri towards Sakuma and never vice versa. It's probably due to story reasons as there wouldn't be much conflict if the focus was on Odagiri and Sakuma as opposed to Miyoshi and Sakuma and that's fair. As much as I wish Sakuma and Odagiri’s dynamic was explored more, I appreciate subtle relationships like this and know they have their place within the story and for what it is, I think it plays its role well.
To conclude, I guess I’ll just throw my bits of headcanon. I can see Odagiri keeping his distance from Sakuma as a way to distance himself from his past (which we'll see doesn't work out for him in episode 12) but he allows himself moments of sympathy to support Sakuma in a way. He understands where Sakuma is coming from, so he’s easier on him than the others are. Of course, maybe things really Aren’t That Deep and I care too much about fictional characters, but ah well hehe
(Also if anyone is interested, I wrote a fic some time ago exploring some of the events of episodes 1 and 2 through Odagiri’s perspective, focusing on his thoughts on Sakuma (basically this analysis in fic form haha). You can find it here! ehehe shameless advertising)
Thank you guys for taking the time to read all this!! And thank you JGfiles for giving me the opportunity to put all of my thoughts about this into one coherent post hehe╰(*´︶`*)╯
