Last summer I crossed Wyoming, looking for something I thought would be a change of life that turned out to be fraught. Changing perceptions creatively, I found this land between home and destination inspiring new ideas, a new series and further adventures to come.
I went to a local bookstore today, and they had a bin of movie stills. I wasn't expecting to find anything I wanted, so I was shocked to find some Loose Cannons photos. I got all the ones they had (the only ones in the whole bin even remotely related to Dan). And then, at the very back, I saw John and knew I had to get that one, too.
Ron Bancroft comes out as a transgender man at nineteen. His parents reject him. His girlfriend rejects him. Feeling trapped and miserable, Ron decides to leave Harvard and travel west to work on a Wyoming ranch to prove to his parents, his ex, and himself that he can live unequivocally as a man. As he embarks on this journey of independence, Ron must deal with the constant fear and anxiety of being discovered as a trans man as he enters a world more dangerous than he ever imagined.
Mod opinion: I hadn't known of this book before and I probably won't read this, but I do love the cover.
After the first time I walked across the United States, I really wanted to do it again—but stuff kept getting in the way. I'm happy to say that in April, I'm finally headed out to attempt another trail from Mexico to Canada...I'm sure there won't be any obstacles at all.
(As is my custom, I didn't entirely finish this. Please ignore the sloppy background; I don't have a computer with Harmony on it anymore and I won't til I'm back from my adventure.)
