Here's the first super dramatic photo from our dark and rainy Hyper Light Drifter shoot! Check out that snazzy light painting. Aside from typical colour editing, no additional effects were edited in to create this photo. It's just long exposure. No real updates today. Mostly it was just plastidipping everything and waiting for that to dry. So I figured I would update with a tutorial instead! This is for large, round lights without having the weight of resin. I do aplogize for the block of text. It seems like Instagram hates paragraphs Materials: Half of an acrylic fillable christmas ornament, a circle of eva foam (or something similar) that fits just inside the rim of the ornament, froated glass spray paint, box cutter, tea light in the color of your choice, glue (not pictured). Step one: spray your ornament half with the spray paint. Make it as even as you possibly can, but get a good couple of layers. You don't want to be able to see through, just allow the light to be diffused. Step two: Cut the center of your foam just large enough that your tea light fits snuggly. Step three: once in place, add some hot glue (or glue of choice) to ensure the tea light is secure. Step four: once your ornament amd glue are dry, carefully place your eva foam backing into the ornament, so that the back of the foam lines with the rim. Add glue to secure it in place. Tada! So I’ve been pretty quietly been working on this project with my two good friends @willy_ckh and Henry. This is a sword design from @warcraft back from the WotLK Naxxaramus raid called “Life and Death”. For one of recent engineering courses in undergrad, Henry and I were tasked on performing finite element analysis (FEA) on a project of our choosing. FEA is typically used for boring but useful stuff like “will this bridge fall” before you spend the $$$ in time and resources, lol. Since 3D printing is a big thing in the cosplay world and it feels really bad when you build something cool only for it to break shortly after, I thought this was a creative way to use FEA and kill two birds with one stone. We built the said model based on in-game references, and tested (1) how sturdy said model was using popular 3D printing materials, namely ABS, PET, and PLA, and (2) which would be the best material to 3D print with for robustness. It turned out PET>>PLA>>ABS. We were going to 3D print with PET, but I goofed up and learned PETG is the common 3D printing plastic filament and PETG is significantly worse than PET as in terms of material properties and slightly below PLA as a sturdy material. So we opted for PLA instead. Swiping right you can see half the sword so far printed in black PLA. The last video is the LED strip we’ll be using to illuminate the fins and belly of the sword :) All the model was made by Henry, and 3D parts are printed by @willy_ckh . In addition to Yuno, I wore Krolia for the second time last weekend for Saturday of Kumo. We tried to document the lighting in the costume! It’s kind of difficult to capture, but all the pink parts of the armor are actually lit by EL Panel, five panels in total. Was nice to wear Krolia again, the costume held up through a second wear even though it was made in a rush. However If I cosplay her again I will need to make some repairs. 📸 @robintakespix
